The Teen Titans began as a group of teenage sidekicks to the world-famous adult Super Heroes of the Justice League. Although they shared many adventures together, as they grew older, they drifted apart. But.... When the empath Raven needed a team of heroes to fight her father, the inter-dimensional demon Trigon, she recruited several original members of the Titans, who were now older teenagers, as well as some new ones, forming the New Teen Titans (read their adventures here). Raven’s lineup of Titans ended up being the most popular incarnation of the team. But who are these Titans? Here's a breakdown of the members, as they originally appeared, who will feature in the live-action Titans. Of course, just because a character's story played out one way in the comic books doesn't mean it will or won't go the same way for them on screen. The only way to know is to check out Titans when it debuts right here on DC Universe on October 12th!

Robin / Nightwing (Dick Grayson)

Richard "Dick" Grayson grew up in Haly's Circus, as the youngest member of the acrobatic family the Flying Graysons. When his parents were murdered by mob boss Tony Zucco, young Dick was taken in by billionaire Bruce Wayne, as his ward, who recognized in Dick a kindred spirit. Wayne let Dick in on his secret identity as the Batman, and trained him to become his partner Robin, the Boy Wonder.

While still Batman's partner, Robin teamed up with other teen heroes in the first version of the Teen Titans. As the members grew older, they drifted apart. But when Robin was 18, the mysterious empath Raven recruited him to join a new version of the Titans. In this reformed team, Dick truly came into his own as a leader, and finally decided to move on as Batman's partner. He took on the identity of Nightwing, allowing another young hero to replace him as Robin. Today, as Nightwing, Dick Grayson is one of the DC Universe's most respected and trusted heroes.

Starfire (Koriand'r, a.k.a. Kory Anders)

Princess Koriand'r of the planet Tamaran was born as the second daughter of King Myand'r and Queen Luand’r. Her older sister Komand'r was born without the Tamaranean ability to fly; and, because of this "handicap," Koriand'r was next in line to take the throne, creating a bitter rivalry between the two siblings. When the Citadel Empire threatened war with Tamaran, the King was given a choice -- give up his favorite daughter to become a slave, and his planet would be spared a war. He chose to give up his child to save his world.

Growing up as a slave, Koriand'r was experimented on by alien scientists called the Psions, and was given the power to create deadly starbolts. Using this power, she escaped captivity and fled to Earth, where she joined the Teen Titans as Starfire. Wide-eyed and curious, she proved herself a valuable member, though her teammates often had to curb her instinct to use lethal force. "Kory," as she was known to her friends, soon entered into an on-again/off-again relationship with Robin.

Beast Boy (Garfield "Gar" Logan)

Garfield Logan's parents were research scientists. When they found themselves stationed in an African country, Gar contracted a rare and lethal disease. His parents created a cure by making a serum derived from a rare green monkey. Although Gar was cured, the side effects were extraordinary -- his skin and hair turned green, and he had the power to change into any animal in existence. When his parents died, Gar was taken in by the team of outcast Super Heroes known as the Doom Patrol, where he took on the name Beast Boy.

When the Doom Patrol were tragically killed in action, Gar was left orphaned for a second time. He was adopted by the billionaire Steve Dayton, who was very reclusive, leaving Gar feeling like he had no family. When Raven formed the New Teen Titans, she asked Beast Boy to join, which he did under the name Changeling. It was with the Titans that Gar found the family he'd always longed for. Despite all his tragedies, or maybe because of them, Beast Boy was always jovial and waiting to crack a joke, which made him the Titan's resident comic relief.

Raven (Rachel Roth)

Raven's mother Arella was a lost soul, who found herself seduced into a demonic cult. There, she was offered up as the bride of the demon Trigon, and bore his child, a daughter named Raven. Half demon, Raven inherited her father's dark powers. Arella was eventually taken to live in another dimension with the pacifists of Azarath, where Raven was raised to hone her mystical powers for good, including the ability to separate her soul self from her body. She was taught to suppress her emotions, lest her demon half exert itself.

Eventually, Trigon would attempt to conquer Earth. Raven then recruited several young heroes as a new version of the Teen Titans, hoping they would help defeat her father. Raven was eventually corrupted several times by her demonic blood, but she died, freeing her soul self from her body and her father's corruption. Her soul then inhabited a new, younger body. Taking the name Rachel Roth, Raven continuously struggled with unleashing her own dark powers.

Hawk and Dove

Brothers Hank and Don Hall were polar opposites. Hank was aggressive and reactionary, whereas Don was sensitive and thoughtful. One day, a pair of mysterious voices made themselves known to the two boys -- one belonged to the ancient Lord of Chaos T'Charr, and the other the Lord of Order Tarataya. They each granted the brothers enhanced strength, speed and agility, but also enhanced their innate personality traits. Hank became the warlike Hawk, and Don the peaceful Dove, and the siblings became crime fighters.

After several adventures with the Teen Titans, Dove was killed in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Without the calming presence of his brother, Hawk became even more violent and aggressive. As it turned out, when Don died, his powers transferred to college student Dawn Granger, who became the new Dove. She found Hawk and became his second partner, restoring the balance of order and chaos.

Where are yall getting your comics from? My aunt is the one who got me the comics (cause apparently they're the work of the devil) but i cant exactly keep mooching off her lol

PSA for ppl in general bc ur situation sounds different anon BUT: If/when you can spare the cash, absolutely try to buy locally! I’m lucky bc I live btwn two pretty big cities and there’s actually more than a few small comics & games stores where I live that I like to support and order trades through! Support local comic shops!

Barring that, if you have a library card, try giving them a call and see if they have some trades! Usually public libraries will either have some more popular stories or can borrow ones from other libraries in neighboring towns/cities! If reading digitally is more your thing, many libraries are partnered with Hoopla/OverDrive/Libby! Support your libraries and they’ll support you!!! :D

Currently, I’ve been using the DCUniverse app for 90% of my comics reading. (Altho it’s going to be switching from a multimedia app to a comics only app in the coming months?) the stipulation is ofc, the subscription that you have to pay for access to the service, but given how many comics I’ve been able to read and shows and movies I’ve been able to watch, it’s been Well Worth It in my book. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, though, I know that. Which brings us to~

When all else fails, there ARE websites that provide comics for free. The caveat ofc is that you’ll need a good adblocker/beware of pop-ups, and that if you want to ensure an on-going run’s continuation, then you’ll want to eventually buy the issues/trades as they come out to show DC that it has financial backing.

The one I use personally (usually that other 10% of the time when I want to read a brand new issue of something) is readcomiconline, altho there are others!

Let’s Talk #DCUniverse: Postmortem

Let’s start off 2021 by talking about a soon-to-be defunct streaming service that never even made it out of the United States.

For my thoughts on the death of DC Universe, feel free to keep reading.

DC Universe, for those unaware, is/was a streaming service centering around the titular comic book label and its superheroes. Unlike other streaming services, not only could you stream a mixture of original shows, classic animated and live action series, and films, but also read a wide range of comic books.

The service was not outright terrible. It brought back Young Justice from cancellation, produced a surprisingly good Harley Quinn animated series, and debuted the HD remasters of classic shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Shazam!

It also allowed subscribers the ability to read comics on a TV.

From the start, DC Universe was doomed to fail. It limited itself to only comics released a year prior. It also never had all of the shows and films due to agreements with other streaming services making them mostly unavailable.

The streaming service never even left the United States. The few exclusives it had, such as the aforementioned Harley Quinn, Swamp Thing, and Titans, were available internationally on either Netflix or cable.

Quibi, by comparison, at least made it to a few countries before shutting down.

It also never managed to justify paying either $8 a month or $75 a year for a subscription. For almost the same amount, you could subscribe to either Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+ and get far more content.

It just raises the question: Why subscribe for one brand’s content when you can instead subscribe to another service featuring five different brands?

The writing was on the wall with the launch of HBO Max as well as their “exclusives” airing elsewhere. Stargirl aired The CW and subsequently renewed for a second season that will air only on said network.

Some may point out that DC Universe is technically not dying. On January 21st, the service will rebrand itself as DC Universe Infinite and exclusively focus on comics. All of its remaining shows and films will move over to HBO Max.

Sadly, the ability to read comics on a TV will be removed due to the subsequent removal of the TV apps. On the bright side, it will finally be available internationally... starting this Summer.

The rebranding essentially confirms the original version was a failure. While not on the same level as Quibi’s demise, it was just a terrible idea to have a streaming service with a limited amount of content. Some might bring up former sister streamer Crunchyroll as an example, but that at least features not only a wide range of anime and manga but also live action series.

In a time where companies are acquiring everything they can to make their streaming services as popular as possible, DC Universe felt more like an add-on than a proper streaming service.

DC Universe Infinite launches January 21st.

Sorry for this little rant, but why the hell would dcuniverse completely be removed? I wish someone competent would handle DC. I'm a tired DC fan. I'ts just comic, movie, tv show cancellations all the time. They can't even keep their DCEU cast. It's frustrating. I have no dcuniverse access basically I'm forced to pirate their shows because they can't even release it outside the US. I sure hope Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing gets picked up I'll take the cw at this point!

apologies for the late response! just got home im very tired so this is the only ask that ill publish about this whole thing. i compiled a few things. these are official statements from the community manager and mods on dcuniverse. they posted a couple of times that the app will be okay moving forward (god i hope). they deleted a lot of threads because the message board was a mess after the swamp thing cancellation so i didnt catch everything. but here’s what was left of it. they also confirmed that the harley quinn and stargirl shows will be completed and released. this is their statement at the moment. this is a long post (i’ll add more tomorrow) putting the rest under a read more:
