Dead Boy Detectives Yuletide 2024
Let's celebrate the Winter Holidays in the Dead Boy Detectives fandom!
Prompt list.
For this event, we have 5 prompts that can be developed in as many weeks, running from 2nd December to 5th January, though whichever medium you can think of (art, fics, poetry, cosplay, photography, etc...)
Post it on social media on the same week or afterwards, whether on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and/or AO3 (more rules and guidelines coming soon) with the hashtag #dbdayuletide2024 and mentioning the account @dbdayuletide.
The prompts:
Putting up the Decorations (Dec. 2-8)
Playing in the Snow (Dec. 9-15)
Under the Mistletoe (Dec. 16 -22)
Exchanging Presents (Dec. 23 - 29)
Coziness around the Fireplace (Dec. 30 - Jan. 5)
Wish list (Gift Exchange).
We'd like to set up a gift exchange where people could fill in a wishlist that can be picked up by creators.
Simply download the template, fill it with your requests and wait to see if someone gifts it to you!
As a creator, you can pick up as many requests you want to fulfill.
(The Gift Exchange is in collaboration with DBDA Ghostmas)

❄️ DBDA Fandom Gift Exchange! ❄️
Publish your wishlist with the tag #dbdaWishlist2024!
Anyone can use my Wishlist template or the wishlist template by @dbdayuletide to fill in a list of requests to repost on their account. Creators can then pick up the requests that they like to fulfill and gift them to the original poster. A few examples of wishlists will be posted alongside the template, but let your imagination roam free!
Note: The gift exchange will be open, public, and unmoderated.
Open: anyone can join at any moment with a list of requests and anyone can fulfill as many as they like. That means that some requests may receive more than one entry, while others none.
Public: Everything will go through social media, so both the wisher and the creator will be visible to everyone!
Unmoderated: As mods we cannot guarantee that every request will be matched, but we hope that this event will run smoothly and that everyone will have fun!
This event was coordinated between @dbdayuletide and @dbdaghostmas. We can't wait to see all the wonderful, festive works you all create this holiday season! 👻🎁

I've been VERY involved in a new fanfic but I can't talk much about it because it's for a holiday gift exchange! suffice to say it's a dbda casefic.
It was supposed to be a little emotionally focused piece like my leverage holiday exchange fics last year (a 1500 word main and 600 word side gift) but with this fic it feels like I picked up a piece of colored glass from the beach and went "oh cool I can make something out of this" only to look up from my work weeks later and go "...oh shit I'm building a cathedral."
I'm already over 6k and haven't gotten to the scene that has the original spark of glass in it!
At least I have a month in which to write the rest.
Still hoping to finish well before that and get back to other projects, i've got more pre-canon stuff planned and a couple of AUs still lurking in my brain!

Dead Boy Detectives Gift Exchange FAQ
Q: Who are you?
A: I'm @overlord-of-chaos, or elusive_ellipsis over on AO3, but you can call me Entity. This is a sideblog I set up for the gift exchange but I am equally DBDA-obsessed over on my main so feel free to go give me a follow there too!
Q: What is a gift exchange?
A: Basically, people put in requests and offers for different works (can be in any format eg. gifsets, artwork but it's assumed for this exchange that unless otherwise specified you're looking for fanfic) and get paired up. The offerer will produce the work requested by the requester and then it'll be added to the collection so everyone can see it.
Q: When will this gift exchange run?
A: Signups will open on 31st October, close on 14th November, then people will have until roughly February to produce their works.
Q: Who can see my requests/offers?
A: Me and any moderators on the collection. They also will be shared with the person you are paired with once you are paired. In the case that your request/offer doesn't have a match, it may be revealed publicly or to requesters/offerers who are unpaired for the sake of finding someone to match you to.
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: Because I love Dead Boy Detectives and I want to do something for the fandom! We have so many incredible creators and I hope this provides them with an opportunity to have some fun, I cannot wait to see what y'all create! (I will also be participating.) Also because @the-ipre suggested one and I was inspired.
Q: Why is it called a secret pumpkin on AO3?
A: Because it's like a secret santa, but it's not Christmas, it's Halloween? I am accepting better ideas should you wish to suggest them but for now I have made this choice and I must live with it.
Q: My question isn't answered here.
A: My ask box is open! Feel free to ask me whatever, I'm sure there's something I haven't thought of.

And that's a wrap for signups! Expect to start hearing about your matchups in the next few days, I'll keep you updated on how that's progressing and announce when all pairings are complete.
(If you missed signups, there is a slim but not nonexistent chance that we might need to reopen so that we can get good matches for folks, so keep an eye out.)

This is going to be something of a long post, as I have a lot of announcements to make, so please bear with me.
Firstly, pairing is mostly complete, and you should be receiving emails letting you know what you'll be making soon. It's been a delight to see all of your wonderful ideas. However, I have tragically misunderstood how the AO3 pairing system works (it matches participants with participants and not individual offers with requests) and so have had to pair everyone the old-fashioned way, since I told everyone requests and offers would be matched one-to-one and I wanted to keep that. (I am surrounded by so many flashcards. Next time, I will remember this day.) This means that while you're all being emailed your assignments, you won't be able to view them on AO3 itself. You can still gift works and add them to the collection, though.
Secondly, you were all amazingly generous, and we actually got more offers than requests! There are 2 fic offers and 1 fanvid that are currently unpaired. If you are already signed up to the gift exchange and wish to make an additional request for one of these (provided you're not already at the maximum of 3), send me a DM or email [email protected]. These will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Thirdly, we have one unpaired request for a fanvid. If you are interested in making one for the exchange, even if you are not currently signed up, please DM me to let me know. You will also be able to make a fanfic request to go with your offer if you wish.
(Please check back on the original post to see if these offers/requests are still available, I'll be updating as they're claimed.)
Fourthly, if you aren't signed up and you want to be: watch this space! Current participants have until 1st December to turn down their matches if they're not for them. If anyone does, I will open up those unpaired offers and requests to anyone who wishes to take them, including anyone who missed signups.
As ever, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I wrote a lot of emails for this, so there's every chance I made a few mistakes. If you think your request info might be missing something or it doesn't make sense or there's some other issue, you're probably right, so please reply to the email to let me know. But otherwise, happy creating!

Signups will be closing tomorrow! It's been wonderful to see so many people interested so far, so this is your reminder that if you want to be involved but haven't yet signed up, now's the time!
You can sign up on AO3 here and you can find our FAQ here.
Once signups close, request-offer matching will begin, and you'll all find out what works you're making in the next week or so.
Note: the collection on AO3 lists a specific closing time, but signups will still be open until I manually close them. I'll announce when I do so, but before then you're free to sign up even if it looks like it's past the deadline.

Hi! @deadtwinksdetectiveagency here :-) I'm excited for this! Thank you for organizing it! For requests, I'm open to either a pre-canon or post-canon piece along similar lines; would I make separate requests for the two? Thanks!
Hiya, lovely to have you here!
The answer is, it depends on whether you want one work or two. If you want one and just don't mind which time period, you can state that in your description and whoever you're paired with can decide which era to go for. If you want two, you can definitely do that and you would make two separate requests, one for pre-canon and one for post.
Basically, requests are paired with offers 1:1, so there won't be any of either unpaired at the end. It's not a matter of choosing between your requests but rather making sure they all get fulfilled, if that makes sense.
Thank you for the ask!

Hi
I tried to sign up but it won’t let me because the tags for “Fic,” “GIF-set,” etc weren’t recognised. So it keeps saying i have to fill them in but won’t recognise when I do it. (In fairness, I am bad with technology so I might just be doing it wrong). Could. You clarify please?
So, this is entirely my bad, sorry about that. I've changed the tagging system slightly - use the tags "Art" for artworks or "Gifset" (no hyphen), and they should work. For Other, you can just specify this in the description, or not specify at all if you're looking for fic. Don't worry about it too much, if it's still not working you can just state in your description and I will sort out format pairings manually after signups close.
Thanks for telling me about this, I tested the system a little before going live but there was always going to be something I'd missed 😅 Let me know if you have any other issues!

Rules - Weekly Prompts
There are 5 specific prompts for as many weeks, running from December 2nd to January 5th.
1. Everyone can join! Your work can be in any medium: art, fics, headcanons (yes, even a tweet counts), poetry, cosplay, etc... Whatever you can think of!
2. You don’t have to do all weeks. It’s for fun, so do what you’re able to or what inspires you the most.
3. Post it the same week or afterwards. Take the time you need without stress. Just don’t skip forward!
4. You can combine it with other events. You can use these prompts in combinations with the gift exchange or with other events such as DBDA Ghostmas. Mix and match as you wish!
Where to post
1. Twitter Tag the account @DBDAYuletide with the hashtag #dbdayuletide2024. You can add another hashtag used for the series, but no more than 2 per tweet as it could be seen as spam. Write the prompt of the week in the description.
2. Tumblr Tag the account @DBDAYuletide with the hashtag #dbdayuletide2024 and any other # used for the series. Write the prompt of the week in the description.
2. Instagram Tag the account @DBDAYuletide with the hashtag #dbdayuletide2024 and any other # used for the series. Write the prompt of the week in the description.
3. AO3 Publish your work inside the collection DBDAChristmasEvents with the tag #dbdayuletide2024 and the prompt of the week. A tutorial on how to publish inside a collection is coming soon.
