Ricardo Paulo Chibanga (November 8, 1942 - April 16, 2019) is recognized as the world’s first documented African bullfighter. He was born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique where his father operated a pastry shop to support his family of seven children. At nine years old, he became enthralled with the sport of bullfighting and would visit the bullring near his home. He started disseminating bullfighting posters and advertisements to African tourists at the train station to lure them to the fights.

He was invited to Lisbon, Portugal for a bullfighting festival. He witnessed Manuel dos Santos and Diamantino Viseu perform bullfights on the same day. He stayed in Portugal. The renowned bull breeder, Joao de Silva, hired him to work as a vaquero. He learned how to observe and understand the behavior of bulls which would help him as a matador.

He began his bullfighting career when Manuel dos Santos introduced him to Armando Soarez, another bullfighter, who added him to his entourage. He and the other performers assisted Soarez in wounding the bull, while Soarez, the lead performer, executed the animal. He performed in more than 70 bullfights.

On August 15, 1971, he made his debut as a matador in Seville, Spain at the Maestranza bullring. He became the 17th Portuguese bullfighter and the first of African descent to perform professionally in the sport. He became recognized for dancing in his colorful costume to confuse the bull and leap forward to plant the banderillas into the bull’s shoulder blades.

He achieved international acclaim. He toured bullfighting arenas around the world including Spain, Southern France, Mexico, Venezuela, the US, Canada, Indonesia, and several countries in Africa. He entered the business side of the bullfighting industry where he owned and managed a portable bullfighting ring in Golegã, Portugal. In 2001, prominent Portuguese bullfighters dedicated a bronze bust of Chibanga to the city of Golegã in his memory. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

This is a German fan picture from last week on Monday 19th June at Düsseldorf Airport, which is 3.9 miles (ca. 6 km) away from Ratingen. SH was in Germany 🇩🇪 at the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold in Ratingen, and everything suggested Sam was on his way back home to Glasgow to prepare his Martini announcement on 20th June. (SH was seen with Georgia at the event and some eyes reflected the prospect of more than a reunion- a common stereotype of people loitering his lifestyle, wasting time)

But the First thing first: there is beating some "Hard" difficulty. And after that, you can change your opinion.

It’s a lot of daring to say Georgia is/was Sam’s date. Dating? SH has no intention of going out to explore a relationship and explore it in public as a couple. Maybe he’s flirting and acting without momentary serious intentions. Or It’s he hooked up with an old friend in Germany for a simple reconnection or weekend casual sex. For him, nothing is a committed relationship. Whether it's a friend-with-benefits situation, an encounter that went right, or one-night stands, here we can’t to ensure both wake up happy the next morning.

She probably invited him so that good company surrounded her and extended him possession of a pass accredited card. Georgia was training in Germany since the first week of June for the Tour Gold when SH was in New York. He only travelled back to Belgium on Sunday the 11th for his filming job. If something relevant happened in this “friendship”, why not travel first to Germany and after flying to Brussels? Georgia Ellenwood knows in Germany the Stadtwerke Mehrkampf-Meeting, represented her country Canada 🇨🇦 at the World Athletics Challenge - Combined Events Meeting also in Ratingen in 2021 before her surgery.

GE in February 2022, during a qualifying, meet for the world championships, ruptured her Achilles tendon. If you have a ruptured Achilles tendon, the healing process can take anywhere between 6-8 weeks, but if you wish to return to athletic activity may be able to do so within 4 to 12 months. Achilles tendon ruptures (ATR) are detrimental to sports performance.

Achilles tendon ruptures can be devastating injuries for athletes who require a long recovery, and may not allow them to achieve the degree of athletic prowess. She seems to continue with a certain discomfort that forced her to withdraw from the event in Germany 🇩🇪 DNF next to her name abbreviation for did not finish.

GE posted pictures from Innsbruck, Austria 🇦🇹 maybe before her trip to compete in Ratingen, Germany or after the event. She posted from home lately. It could be difficult for SH to spend a few days with her in Austria before competition, and then they go to Germany together for her championship, when Sam has been shooting on the Belgian North Sea coast and after filming, started the Outlander promo in New York, and on Sunday 11th June back to Brussels to reshoot.

Note aside, The train from Düsseldorf 🇩🇪 to Innsbruck 🇦🇹 takes 8 hours on average to travel 446 miles (ca. 718 km) If he went to Innsbruck during the event weekend, he spent 16 hours seated on the train (round trip) back to Germany, to fly to the UK on Monday 19th waiting for his delayed flight‍ at the airport 🤦‍♂️

SH is not a shy cookie beneath his “butter-wouldn’t-melt grin” that he always shares with his fanatics in each selfie 🤳

Sorry! Love is not only blind. It's also deaf, dumb and pretty stupid too! 🙈🙉🙊 In such a case, I doubt Sam has done it.

Wynton Kelly (short bio)

Wynton Charles Kelly (December 2, 1931 – April 12, 1971) was an American jazz pianist and composer. He is known for his lively, blues-based playing and as one of the finest accompanists in jazz. He began playing professionally at the age of 12 and was pianist on a No. 1 R&B hit at the age of 16. His recording debut as a leader occurred three years later, around the time he started to become better known as an accompanist to singer Dinah Washington, and as a member of trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie's band. This progress was interrupted by two years in the United States Army, after which Kelly worked again with Washington and Gillespie, and played with other leaders. Over the next few years, these included instrumentalists Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Wes Montgomery, and Sonny Rollins, and vocalists Betty Carter, Billie Holiday, and Abbey Lincoln. Kelly attracted the most attention as part of Miles Davis' band from 1959, including an appearance on the trumpeter's Kind of Blue, often mentioned as the best-selling jazz album ever. After leaving Davis in 1963, Kelly played with his own trio, which recorded for several labels and toured the United States and internationally. His career did not develop much further, and he had difficulty finding enough work late in his career. Dunno what she'd go into either...maybe culinary? Mischa would either take a gap year or just not go to college cause he prefers his rap career. Either way, he'd get a full-time job (probably has one already considering shitty parents don't care about him). He'd also get an apartment the moment he's legally and financially able to (unfortunately doesn't have enough money to get out of Uranium, yet). The rest of the choir would help him settle in. If he did go to college, he'd probably major in music. Penny might go into Forensics/Criminology, Psychology, or Zoology. She might try to go for all three at once. Ricky would go into creative writing but I have a feeling he'd major and/or minor in something else. I don't know what, tho. Noel would want to study abroad in France. Would he be able to? Not very likely. Maybe the choir would pitch in to help, that'd be nice. He'd major in French literature and culture, maybe minor in theater.

Ricky is THE transgender-) he uses any pronouns tho, Ocean is AroAce or Lesbian {either way, she is not attracted to men}, Constance loves baking for the choir and she makes sure to take into account any and all dietary restrictions, Ocean is a vegan, Mischa is unphased by horror movies but if he's watching one with someone else and they seem terrified he'll talk throughout the movie to make them less terrified and if they're enthusiastic he'll talk through some of it to point out details he notices, Mischa is like the older brother the choir never knew they needed, Ocean would probably add more (or has more) religions onto her list of religions (also for some reason, Ocean with a hijab is appealing to me), Ricky likes putting buttons on their uniform and customizing almost everything they own (such as technology, disability aids, sketchbooks, etc.) with cool stickers, Penny and Ricky (and maybe even Ezra) like to talk about Fnaf theories, Ricky has the choir beta read her writing {Penny, Mischa, and Constance tend to be the ones to do it}, when Noel finally feels comfortable to be Lola Lola for Halloween, Mischa and Ricky support him through dressing in drag with him, Mischa offers up stick and poke tattoos and Penny and Noel are the only two who take him up on it (Noel gets a bleeding, broken heart struck with an arrow on his shoulder, Penny gets a snake eating it's own tail on the back of her wrist, and Mischa gets a mixture of the two by the inside of his elbow), they're all autistic, and I think I should stop there cause oh man I didn't realize how many I had (i should make a doc or something with all of my headcanons-)

Day One in Poitiers, Aerospace Summer Program

My name's Aryanna, and I'm an aerospace engineer going to four different cities in France this summer! I'll start in Poitiers, where the focus will be on radiative heat transfer and thermal control of satellites. After 8 days, I'll head to Paris to study launchers, from propulsion to mission and architecture to flight control. I went to Paris last year for a 6 week engineering abroad program and absolutely loved the city, so I'm delighted to be going back. I’ll spend 11 days in Paris before going to Salon-de-Provence to look at space communications for 5 days. If I remember orientation correctly, this will actually involve work on a military base, which will certainly be interesting. The program will end in Toulouse, where I'll learn about industry and project management. Because I am lucky enough to go to the University of Michigan, I'll be able to spend 4 extra days beyond the regular program end date in Toulouse, where I'll be able to celebrate Bastille Day! (The closest equivalent American holiday is the Fourth of July). Plus, throughout the entire program, I'll be taking a French course as well. I'm a little nervous about actually talking to native French speakers, but I think I’ll be okay. I'll have to get working on my Duolingo or something.

Last year I had some...difficulties on the flight home from Paris. The second leg of my flight got canceled and rescheduled for a day later and to have ANOTHER layover, and stuff got delayed and delayed and delayed. I ended up stuck in Canada for 2 days, slept on a bench in the airport for one night and in a hotel with some nice strangers I met on my second attempt to fly home the other night before riding a 14 hour train to Michigan with them. Slightly dangerous? Yes, but it worked out! No, I did not receive anything from the airport/airline except for a $500 voucher for an airline I NEVER intend to use again (Air Canada. A Canadian Uber driver told me it's the worst airline in Canada, so never use it). Now I am a firm believer in direct flights when possible. I flew from DTW to CDG (an airport in Paris), then took a train from CDG to Poitiers. Including the wait for the plane or train, it was around 16 hours of travel, but well worth it. Plus, one program member was on the same flight as me, and four were on the same train, so it was fun to start meeting people on the way.

I didn’t have much time to explore Poitiers today after my train got in, but I did get lunch, take a short nap, struggle getting an eSIM, and get dinner with the entire program. There are 19 of us from around the world; some are from Australia, some from the UK, and some from the US. It has been interesting talking and seeing what things are different about each place (for example, the students from Australia said they often celebrate Christmas on the beach. It makes sense since it happens during their summer, but it’s still weird to think about). The city right outside the hotel doesn’t look like much, but a brief hike up a hill and it feels like you’re somewhere else entirely! Poitiers isn’t that big, but the buildings are very pretty and very old. We’re going on a tour of the city tomorrow, so I’ll have more to say about it in the next update.

Everything on this side of the building is painted on. It's the only one I've seen like it, but I really like the art scene in Poitiers so far. There has been a lot of Mario-themed graffiti around too.

I have my first day of class tomorrow, but it's pretty brief. It'll be about three hours of French, then the city tour after lunch. I'm excited to get the program started!

The Ledge #571: New Releases

The first Friday of June means we have nothing but new releases on The Ledge, and it's quite the lineup tonight. There are artists from all over the world, ranging from just a mile or so from my home (Thought Patrol) to Germany (Hamburg Ramones, Berlin Blackouts), with additional stops in Italy, Norway, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries). There's the return of a ton of veteran artists, including Rancid, Graham Parker, The Aquadolls, and Joan Jett. 

Most importantly, at least for me, is the brand new project by Tommy Stinson. Over the last few years he's been touring with his pal Chip Roberts under the Cowboys in the Campfire moniker, and today sees the release of their debut album, Wronger. While a bit quieter than we're used to from the former Replacements bass player, it's still quite a record from the hardest working member of the legendary band. 

Of course, we begin with the latest in the "52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks" series, and this time it is nt a new release. This version is from the French band Nouvelle Vague, an act that was created to remake classic punk and new wave songs in bossa nova versions. Yes, it's a little bit of a departure from the normal covers of the song you've heard over the last five months, but it is definitely worthy of includsion.

Jonas brothers tour 2023: Tour Dates & Locations

The Jonas Brothers are going on tour. Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas announced a 35-date North American tour on Tuesday (May 2) to support not only their upcoming album, The Album, but also four of their previous LPs released over their nearly 20-year career. Five Albums. One Night. is billed as the pop rock trio's most ambitious release to date. The Tour begins in August with two shows at New York City's Yankee Stadium. The band will then spend about two months touring the United States, including stops at Chicago's Wrigley Field, Arlington's Globe Life Field, and Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium, among others, as well as one show in Canada at Toronto's Rogers Centre. The Verified Fan presale, which begins next Tuesday (May 9), is the best opportunity for fans to secure in-demand tickets. Registration for the pre-sale is now open until Saturday (May 6), and those chosen will receive a special Verified Fan access code prior to the sale. The tour announcement comes just ten days before The Album, the Jonas Brothers' first album since 2019's Happiness Begins, is set to be released on May 12. The Tour has been in the works for Kevin, Joe, and Nick since February, when they performed a five-night run of intimate Broadway shows in New York. They played a different album each night, starting with their self-titled debut in 2007 and ending with the live debut of The Album.
