I'm kinda confused about the AU part of this prompt. I thought ghost speak is canon? Otherwise this gadget or the Fenton Phones wouldn't exist in the show.

And then there is the episode "Pirate Radio" with the music and the subliminal message that only affected the adults(and Jazz).

Way to Learn

Clockwork kept an ear out as Daniel’s core hummed, chittered, and purred, the tone rising and falling.  When appropriate, he answered it with his own hums and even a few chirps.

After all, to learn a language you needed someone to speak it to you, to speak it with you.  There were certain shortcuts possible with the languages generally known as ‘Ghost Speak’ when compared to living languages, but conversational partners were still a necessity.  

As was, in the case of Daniel and other young ghosts, a period of child-like babble.  Encouraging it helped them learn faster.

However, Daniel didn’t understand Ghost Speak very well, so Clockwork said his next words in English.  

“Daniel.”

“Yeah?” said Daniel, looking up from his math homework.  “What is it?”

“We have an errand to run,” said Clockwork.  

Daniel’s eyebrows flew up.  “You can leave?  I mean, um.  Sorry.  That was rude.”

“I understand your surprise, but rest assured that the Observants do not control me that much.”

“What kind of errand is it?” asked Daniel, putting aside his book and hurrying to Clockwork’s side.  “Bills?  Groceries?  Mail?”

“Closer to groceries than bills,” said Clockwork, “and closer still to mail.  I have some things I need to pick up in person, and the journey might give you some additional insight into ghost culture.”

“Okay,” said Daniel, as they flew out.  “That sounds cool. What kind of insights?”

“You’ll see.”

As they flew, Daniel took it upon himself to ask questions about everything that passed by.  Some of those questions, Clockwork knew, were legitimate curiosity.  Others were thinly veiled attempts to get Clockwork to give away something about what was happening in the future, however near it may be.  

However, long before Daniel could wear through Clockwork’s patience - a quality strengthened over many interactions with the Observants - their destination came into sight.  A small island, covered in mist.

“There we are,” said Clockwork.  “Now, you should be aware of two things about this island.”

“Yes?” asked Daniel, eagerly.  

“One is that time runs differently there.  One week within is one hour without, so we may spend more time there than you usually would.”

“Cool,” said Daniel, “is that why you’re coming here?”

“It is one of the reasons.  The other thing you should know is that human languages are not spoken there.”

Daniel, who had been learning about how the Ghost Zone worked, frowned.  “Are not, as in no one speaks them, or as in no one can speak them, even if they learned.”

“The latter,” said Clockwork.

“Oh,” said Daniel, looking at the island with much less enthusiasm.  “Okay.”

“Ghost languages aren’t too terribly difficult.  I’m sure you’ll be able to talk to everyone there before we leave.”

“Sure as in you looked, or just sure?”

“I’m sure,” Clockwork said, without further elaboration.  “Immersion is the best way to learn a language.”

“Do you even have an errand here?” asked Danny.  “Or is this your way of making me learn ghost languages?”

Clockwork smiled.

Day 23 (+5+29): Rogue Gallery (+Bonus)

I couldn't decide on who to focus for this DannyMay prompt, so I did a bunch of the Rogues!

(And that's the reason for the delay in posting this prompt... (^～^ ;)ゞ)

Since this is part of the Ghost Animal Noodles AU (which @tourettesdog's Little Baby Man is to blame), I'm going to post both the art and the respective animal I took inspiration from (under the cut because it's a loooong post):

Skulker the Felis nigripes! The fierciest kitten, they apparently have the 60% success rate everytime they hunt!

DAY 29: Ghost Speech AU Kitty as a Wirehaired Hungarian Vizla and Johnny (and Shadow) as Cheetahs! Since every Rogue is cat (or cat-adjacent) themed, I thought that it would have been hilarious if someone called "Kitty" was a canine. (≧∇≦) (The other two's need for speed prevailing over anything else is obvious.) Of course they cannot abstain from quarreling, so Ghost Speech for everyone!

Princess Dorathea as a Norwegian Forest Cat and Desiree as an Egyptian Mau! The latter has been chosen because of Desiree's canon origins, while Dora's cat breed is said to have been used on Viking ships as mousers, so I thought it was the closest thing to dragon-lore... HttyD (≧∇≦) I wanted to give them something nice, so I let them chill with a cup of tea.

Ember as a Lynx lynx and Technus as a Catopuma badia! Here we have the not-canonical sight of a singer and her boyfriend's boyfriend bonding over an electrical guitar project!

DAY 5: 10 min VS 1 hour Nocturn as a Nue (a Japanese Yōkai, part Tiger, Monkey, Tanuki and Snake) and Undergrowth as a Gryphon! I tried to stuff as many other prompts as I could in the Rogue Gallery Day, so here I attempted this challenge. On the left, the 10 minutes drawing with more Undergrowth than Nocturn because when I noticed that the time was almost up I rushed and did a base sketch of the latter. On the right, the 1 hour drawing where I focused on Nocturn because I had in mind what I wanted them to look like so there was no time left for the other Ancient... (^～^ ;)ゞ

The Box Ghost, Luch Box and Luch Lady as Spotted Hyenas (Crocuta crocuta)! The hyenas are wonderful animals and Feliformes, so technically still cat-adjacent! Plus they have a matrialcal gerarchy that I feel fitting in BG and LL dynamic, so I loved doing this!

Youngblood as a Pallas Cat (Otocolobus manul) and Sidney Poindexter as a Sphynx Cat! Pallas Cats are so cute but also look like gremlins, so they fit very well with a ghost kid (who's in his Tarzan Phase). As for the Sphynxes, I love those beasts, but they have that kind of "loser nerd" vibes that is so Sidney that I couldn't pass the chance! ꒰(@｀꒳´)꒱

Prince Aragon as a Norwegian Forest Cat (like his sister), Walker as a Binturong/Bearcat (Arctictis binturong) and Penelope Spectra as a Fossa (Cryptoprocta ferox)! Both the last two are cat-adjacent, plus fossa look as creepy as Spectra, so they fit very well. As for the pose, since he has lost the Dragon Amulet, Aragon is kind of a twink, so just a paw to stop him would suffice, but Spectra is a slippery eel, so Walker had to bind her with his tail as well, just to be sure... (≧∇≦) (My lovely assistant @teacupsandstarlight posed irl for the captives' pose, so please thank her! (⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠³⁠˘⁠)⁠~❤)

i have finished my job crunch, and while i'll be waiting on interviews to get scheduled etc, i'll actually have a pretty good amount of free time!! which, fingers crossed, will mean LOTS of time for writing, heehee ✨ so, that said, here are the things i'm working on in rough chronological order:

JSABtober day 29 🔻 Perfect Nothing: The Experiment

In Paradise, the topic of hybrid shapes or "bicolors" is a big taboo, but a group of scientists wanted to know more about how this phenomenon happened, how opposite elements like purity and corruption could coexist in the same body, and how it could be formed.

They experimented with corruption in pure shapes, trying to create a hybrid shape artificially. Unfortunately they weren't able to replicate the state of a hybrid shape, which drove Dr Basil to spend days and nights investigating and calculating, obsessed with finding out how to do it. When he finally got the formula, he was alone... he was too impatient, so he experimented on himself.

Unfortunately for him his formula failed, creating a new type of corruption that ate away at both purity AND corruption itself, destroying his body from the inside out. Dark pink spikes grew from his body, his blood turned black and poured from his several holes... a horrifying sight and experience.

Sadly he was alive for a long time before this new corruption finally ended his life, suffering for hours on end. The next day, his team found him dead and the whole investigation was stopped until further notice.

Ngl what this song speaks to me is plain "suffering", not a character itself xD That's why Basil isn't too detailed. I enjoyed making up that lore tho 😼

Danny was eating lunch alone when Wes frantically ran up to him. This was a common occurrence. “I finally figured it out,” said Wes. This, too, was a common occurrence.

“Figured what out?” Asked Danny before taking a bite of his apple. “That you aren’t going to prove my identity?” Wes rolled his eyes. “After months of study, I have finally worked out how to speak some of ghost language,” said Wes. Danny nearly choked on his apple and stifled a laugh.

“You learned ghost language from watching my fights?” Danny asked in disbelief. “Yes, I did, and I can prove it,” said Wes, crossing his arms. “Boo ah oh hoo, abo.”

“I am Wes Weston beware.” Repeated Danny. “You didn’t learn that from the Box Ghost did you?” Wes blushed. “Well, I… maybe,” he mumbled.

Danny couldn’t deny that what he had picked up on was impressive. “Here, I’ll teach you.” Danny picked up a pen and pencil. He spent the rest of lunch teaching Wes how to actually introduce himself in the language of the dead. Danny continued teaching him after that too. Pretty soon Wes was properly fluent.
