Tuesday Tribute #6  Dawes / All Your Favorite Bands

"All Your Favorite Bands" is not my favorite Dawes song by far, but it feels appropriate this week. For five days I've been in continental Europe visiting a friend I've known since high school who now attends university in Strasbourg. "Favorite Bands" reflects on the often isolating lifestyle of touring musicians -- having "friends around the country" often means being separated by hundreds or thousands of miles. In some ways, high school and college graduation can have the same effect: close friends suddenly become difficult to keep up with. However, "Favorite Bands" is also a toast to those friendships that withstand; those which can remain unchanged by the passage of time or by thousands of miles apart. So to all my friends in Louisville: may all your favorite bands stay together.

it is healthy and important to remember that this shit happens all the time,

avalanches, 

volcano eruptions, 

gangs of clowns prowling the streets.

disaster and chaos is woven into our daily routine.

not to say your pain is not unique, but the situation isnt.

which means your heartbreak isnt.

your anger.

your loneliness.

their stupidity. 

its all being felt, 

somewhere.

the miraculous thing about loneliness is you are never alone in feeling it,

tonight someone else will make a creepy voodoo doll of their ex and turn its abdomin into a pin cushion,

just like you.

tonight someone will listen to the entirety of the band Dawes' discography, 

on repeat, full blast, skipping over the cute romantic songs 

and that one that you know is suppose to be sad but it feels a little too happy,

just like you.

today's dilemna may be the same as tomorrow's.

it may leave after tonight and never return

or it may linger and haunt for months, years, lifetimes.

the good news is, people are very into ghosts right now.

and eventually you may find someone who thinks your ghost is cute

or at least acceptable.

and you'll be okay, 

in your haunted house of weird memories

listening to the same four albums for eternity.

mandymooremm: These last few weeks have been an unfathomable blur of all of the emotions. I’ve never held such immense gratitude coupled with unspeakable grief at the same time. In the midst of so much darkness and uncertainty, seeing @ dawestheband open THE GRAMMYS and get to share their heart, spirit, musicality and DEEP love for this city of ours with the world at large, it just makes me want to burst. No one is more deserving of this moment than Griff and Taylor. And they met the moment—I say that as a fan, not just a wife. Sharing tonight with my gorgeous sister in law, @ quintessentiallykit (who had a baby a week ago- seriously who can get it together and show up looking this stunning after all they’ve been through) was also intensely special. Also @ sherylcrow @ bradpaisley @ st_vincent @ johnlegend @ blackfootwhitefoot—-What a night!! Thanks for a forever memory, @ recordingacademy!! I love you and am your biggest fan @ taylordawesgoldsmith. We 🩷 LA!!
