Without Reservations (The A-Team) is just Shootout (Starsky and Hutch) in different clothes.
It just so happens I am personally victimised by both seeing as my FAVOURITE in each show is the one bleeding out on the floor of an Italian restaurant.

THE GERALD W. LYNCH THEATER AT JOHN JAY COLLEGE
Einstein dreamed of a unified theory of nature’s laws. String theory has long promised to deliver it: a mathematically elegant description that some have called a “theory of everything.” Join one of the most influential groups of theorists ever assembled on a single stage to evaluate the current state of this most ambitious of theories.
The Big Ideas Series is supported in part by the John Templeton Foundation.

Excerpt from this story from Audubon:
The night of June 10 was warm, but not too much so. After days of rain, Concord, Massachusetts, wrung itself dry. The moon edged toward fullness. Rarely in need of an excuse to wander, Henry David Thoreau took it anyway. He followed Concord’s train tracks out of town and into a moonlit meadow. There, he encountered an iconic bird of the United States: the Eastern Whip-poor-will.
With their cryptic plumage and nocturnal habits, Eastern Whip-poor-wills are rarely seen, but the male’s loud, rhythmic songis hard to miss. Thoreau heard them that evening—five or six at once. A few nights later, when the moon was full, he encountered a dozen or more. “Perhaps this is the Whip-poor-will’s Moon,” he wrote in his journal in 1851.
Into the early 20th century, whip-poor-wills were sheer magic to those who inhabited their breeding range and awaited the species’ return each April and May. An important seasonal sign, the first whip-poor-will’s call signaled an end to frosts and marked the moment to plant sensitive crops, like corns and beans. Farmers let cattle out to pasture. Children knew they could play outside barefoot.
Quirkier and more personal rituals developed around their appearance. One could make a wish on his song, roll on the ground three times for a year without backpain, or shake a pocket full of coins for a year of financial success. Some people believed the repetitions of his name, which he can sing for many hours, predicted how many years they would live or, if they were unmarried, how many until they’d wed. In an article that circulated widely in 1941 and 1942, the United Press reported that an Alabama man—known to friends and family as “Uncle Rip”—waited to have one of his two annual haircuts until whip-poor-wills returned.
The whip-poor-wills’ tune was also part of the nation’s emotional landscape. To 19th century poets, whip-poor-wills might sound mournful, plaintive, and grieving. To John James Audubon, the “cheering voice” of the whip-poor-will was his “only companion” on nights alone in the woods. Others heard the sound of loneliness. When Hank Williams wanted to convey that emotion, he sang of a whip-poor-will who “sounds too blue to fly” in his often-covered 1949 classic, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.”
Yet in the decades since Williams belted those classic opening lines, much has changed for the whip-poor-will—and for our own relationship with the species.
While many kinds of birds are experiencing population declines, whip-poor-wills are especially vulnerable to habitat loss, pesticide use, loss of prey, car strikes, and predation. Ornithologists estimate that the Eastern Whip-poor-will population decreased by nearly 70 percent between 1970 and 2014. But their decline may have begun sooner. After World War II, agricultural and suburban development swallowed great swaths of woodlands. As early as the 1950s, writers like Knoxville News-Sentinel’s Lucy Templeton, whose “A Country Calendar” often included reports and lore about whip-poor-wills, worried over their disappearance from local landscapes.
We’ve changed, too. Many people moved away from the rural towns where they grew up amid birdsong. In the suburbs that replaced bird habitats, we homogenized landscapes with decorative plants unwelcoming to whip-poor-wills. If whip-poor-wills seemed to abandon our world, we also abandoned theirs.
To describe the human consequences of species decline, the lepidopterist Robert Michael Pyle coined the term “extinction of experience,” an ecological insight gained through his own moments of loss.

100 Great Albums from 2024.
OK…
I listened to a lot of music this year, and I am not going to prattle on about it all this time because there's too much. These are the albums that came out this year that I really liked. They aren't in a specific order, but they are in a general order (closer to the top just means I listened to it more often, or responded enthusiastically/felt really strongly about it). I have been doing a lot of radio this year, and so I've listened to so much music. It's not trying to be a definitive top 100 list, I am sure I missed some gems, but these are things I personally liked. Then there are some special mentions at the end that include some reissues that include some reworked/additional material, and some compilations/live albums as well. Genres are all over the place, from heavy to light to weird to weirder. Check things out and enjoy the adventure.

DND Recap: Bread Heist
aka the Pets session where we play as our pets + Sue!
Cast includes: Rose: DM Templeton the Copperhopper: Me Zip Zap Zop the Figment of Buzzing: Me Long Boi the Emberheart Dragon: Me Paul the Pink Bison: Me (moo) Rick, Alfie II, Bob II: Brick Frost the Pseudo Dragon: Ender Beelzebub the Copy Cat: Rascal Radiance, Knight of the Broken Flame: Cream Clementine is not taking part in the session for my own sanity.
The party leaves the Nap Sack to head back to Rosepeak to finish their quest. Sue is left in charge.
Beezlebub ditches Sue. Sue is follows, and loses him and comes across Radiance. Lanwel’s pet. She offers him to come with.
Paul sticks his head out of a door and “MOOOOO-” and Sue gets jumpscared. Almost everyone is in the kitchen
The Jungle Chompers are fighting over a bone which goes flying away as they're wrestling. Long Boi stole the bone and put it on top of the fridge. The bone vanishes and iventually Frost uninvisibles herself.
Radiance uses a grappling hook to try to restrain one of the raptors. Succeeds with rollies. Radiance is riding Ricky.
Suddenly a door materializes.
Templeton slowly makes his way into the kitchen “WHAT FAH MAE- I senes so magic-” (5 foot walking speed) The door opens. We are told to roll a wisdom save. Everyone fails except for my pets and Sue. Templeton can't smell. Everyone smells the most delicious freshly baked bread.
Radiance goes “HYAH!” and takes off on Ricky.
It looks like Russia. But it’s different but it isn’t rebuilt. This is how it used to look. Before Betty White attacked
Sue does not notice this. Templeton recognized this. He is a very old construct. Sha'Carri is the one who got him up and running.
Templeton: *sad* It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this... Sue: How long? Templeton: About 24 years...
She calls them all back. “I need you all to stick by me. "
We are told to roll perception. The door is gone and there is a note: All you have to do is steal some bread.
Templeton: What's a bread? Frost: Is this bread? *holds up rock* Random kid: Are you a stranger? Sue: Oh hey kid.
"I’ve never seen anyone like you around here. Never mind gotta go!” And the kid books it. Frost is in pursuit. Predator instincts kick in.
We’ve traveled back in time to pre the Betty White attack in Russia.
Paul allows Sue to mount him and he’s got 35 miles per hour Zippy has hopped onto Templeton and uses electricity to make Templeton have a 30 foot movement speed.
The child is cornered. Paul drifts into the alley, bowling the guards over.
The child says his name is David.
“Why did you runs from the guards.’ “I stole a bunch of bread” *pours out 50 loaves of bread.* Sue eats a bit of bread. It is the best bread shes ever eaten. In her life. It’s like those kings hawaiian rolls with the crunch of sourdough. (that sounds so good) “Now you can see why I was trying to steal it.”
Sue: *returning some of the bread to the bakery* Paul: *steals an apple cobbler* Baker: *looking a templeton* I’m pretty sure I saw you blown up on the side of the road- WHAT IS YOUR BISON DOING- Paul: *nat 20 on deception with a face covered in apple cobbler* MOO? Baker: oh sorry- Paul: *moos in the indignity* *basically everyone is stealing bread*
And we’re off to steal from the royal bakery Paul stays outside as the getaway vehicle. *click click* moo
Bob’s pets are with Sue and David going through the sewer.
The rest are sneaking through the front door.
Sue has Templeton on her back to get him up the ladder.
And we see a big hallway.
Meanwhile with the others
The jungle chompers have to roll a wisdom save. 9. They all smell the same thing. They smell a much younger Truk. In his infancy.
Ricky looks at Alfie and Bob and goes “GO GO GO-”
Radiance rolls strength. The chompers roll strength. 3. -2. Radiance wins. Radiance uses the grappling hook to basically turn them into a pod racer.
Cassiandris is on a date with one of the royal bakers
Back to the others. Long Boi is using firebolt to evaporate any water so Templeton doesn’t rust. Long Boi sneezes to cast firebolt Long Boi is very tsundere.
The door to the bread is locked. It shouldn’t be locked. It has a small writing on it “Alfonse Redfeather” Alfie made this door. Zippy uses a shock of electricity to disrupt the magic. “THAT BIRD NEVER LET ME IN HERE!” “How do you know Alfie!” "No reason..." *sus check* “FINE. I work here in the castle. I work here to keep the place clean. My name’s thomas. How are you going to deal with the silent alarm?” “THE WHAT-” "The bird installed a magical alarm so people couldn't steal."
Alfie has no problem with people needing food. He was very poor growing up and understands living in poverty. His issue is people not asking for help and he thinks that the stigma against the poor an homeless is stupid. If you ask he let you have some bread.
Thomas lifts a panel and we land in the fighting colosseum And we don’t sense any humanoids around.
Meanwhile with candle and reptiles.
Radiance gets a 11 on strength and the chompers get a -2
Radiance does not let go. The 2 jungle chompers snape the rope and run to Truk’s childhood room. Ricky follows close behind. They smell Truk coming from a crib.
No wonder Truk was drawn to the jungle chompers. He remembers them from before.
Back to the colosseum. Surrounded by rats Beelzebub shape shifts into a rat
Rat: Can we eat them? Are they tasty? Beelzebub: No they aren’t Rat: I don’t care. I just need meat. YOUR MEAT. Beelzebub: I’m one of you guys *17 on deception*
Rat: Welcome to the family
*rolls a vibe check* “The vibes are off. They’re just a little weird.”
The rats pile into a big pile. Into a mega rat and push a panel. There is a spiral staircase leading up.
“Careful though. There’s no railing”
And they ascend.
The Junglechompers are protecting baby Truk. And Truk’s mom, Samantha, has come to check on baby Truk and sees all these tiny dinosaurs in her son’s bed. And she freezes. They’re all cuddled up to Truk. Frost sees that person and stares and telepathically says “Hi” and slowly approaches.
Ricky: Oh. So you’re his mother! Samantha: Oh you talk-
Baby truk is in a Goblin Shark onesie. Samantha unsheathes the rapier.
Samantha rushes over to try to grab Truk Radiance tries to grab the raptors. Ricky jumps out of the crib. Samantha has baby Truk in one arm.
Frost: Who you- Samantha: I am his mother. Who are you? Frost: Friend. Samantha’s passive insight is 30.
Radiance points at the clock and does a ticking forward motion. “Follow me. We’re going to take you to someone.”
Bragar and Zara see Sue. Bragar pulls out his warhammer. Bragar: Who are you! Sue: I’m a servant! Bragar: Bullshit.
Bragar stops in his track> Sue: I’m from the future- Bragar: I mean you talked about it.
Zara: I mean it’s possible. But not many can do it.
Meanwhile at the castle entrance: Alfie: *building new gates* hang on *sniffs air* I smell more time travel Bullshit. What happened in the future now? Back in Zara’s quarters: Sue: *anxiety spitballing* Zara: She’s telling the truth. *spots Templeton* HOW ARE YOU BACK TO NORMAL- I SAW YOU EXPLODED- Templeton: time travel bullshit.
Zara pulls out a Nokia trying to call the doctor from Doctor who. I roll a d12 David Tennanant’s Doctor shows up
9: Time travel is my favorite! Zara: Shut up. Paul: *pokes his head out of the Tardis* Moo
Paul was the doctor’s companion before being Miss Houdini’s friend
Zara: So how did you get in the castle. Sue: there was this boy. Zara: About this big and annoying? Sue: Yes. Zara: That was Thozall. He’s a dick.
Thomas is Thozall. Everyone freezes.
Then the tardis doors slam shut. Time stops. And there’s a woman. She apologizes for everything. The doctor has his sonic screwdriver shoved in Templeton’s mouth
The doctor gives Templeton some upgrade. He has a 30 foot movement speed and taste buds. He can eat food now!
Radiance: You guys are so fucked up.
We helped Thozall break into his own home. The fall of Russia is a fixed point in time but our pets had a hand in it.
The party has just returned from Rosepeak. End of session.

The Titans of Stock Market Trading: Who They Are and Why They Matter
The legends of stock trading are as diverse as the markets themselves. They come from different backgrounds, with distinct strategies and philosophies. The common thread among them, however, is their ability to navigate the often turbulent stock market. Here are 15 of the most successful traders in history:
Warren Buffett
Jesse Livermore
George Soros
Paul Tudor Jones
Peter Lynch
Ray Dalio
Benjamin Graham
John Templeton
Carl Icahn
Michael Steinhardt
Jim Simons
Richard Dennis
David Tepper
Edward Thorp
Mark Minervini
These individuals made an impact not only through their trades but also through their contributions to the study of market behavior, risk management, and investing strategies. Some used technical analysis, while others relied on fundamental analysis or psychological insights. Their lessons can help shape your approach to investing today.
Warren Buffett: The Oracle of Omaha and His Value Investing Strategy
Warren Buffett, often regarded as the most successful investor of all time, has accumulated a fortune by adhering to the principles of value investing. His philosophy focuses on purchasing undervalued companies with solid fundamentals and holding them for the long term.
Buffett’s Approach:
Intrinsic Value: Buffett seeks companies that are trading below their intrinsic value, meaning they are underpriced relative to their future earnings potential.
Economic Moats: He invests in businesses that have a competitive advantage, such as strong brands or cost efficiencies.
Long-Term Focus: Unlike many traders, Buffett believes in holding stocks for decades, letting the compounding effect of returns work for him.
In India, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, often dubbed the "Warren Buffett of India," has followed a similar approach. One of his most successful trades was the investment in Titan when the stock was trading at just Rs 15, a fraction of its current value.
Jesse Livermore: Lessons from the World’s Most Famous Speculator
Tumblr media
Jesse Livermore, often called the "Boy Plunger," is a legend in the world of speculation. Known for his ability to predict stock market crashes, Livermore’s strategies centered around market psychology and trend following. He was one of the earliest traders to use technical analysis to understand market trends.
Livermore’s Approach:
Trend Following: Livermore focused on identifying and riding the trends in the market, often getting out before a trend reversed.
Psychological Insights: Livermore understood the importance of emotion in trading. He believed that the key to success was controlling fear and greed.
In India, Radhakishan Damani, known for his investments in DMart, mirrors Livermore’s trend-following approach, waiting for the right time to enter and exit trades.
George Soros: Breaking the Bank of England
Tumblr media
George Soros is best known for his $1 billion profit when he famously "broke the Bank of England" during the 1992 Black Wednesday event. Soros is a macro trader who makes large, speculative bets on global economic trends.
Soros’s Approach:
Global Macro Strategy: Soros analyzes global events and trends to determine which currencies or assets will rise or fall in value.
Reflexivity Theory: Soros developed the idea that markets do not always move based on rational expectations but are often driven by people's perceptions and beliefs.
Soros’s influence can also be seen in Indian markets, especially during periods of currency fluctuations. For instance, when the Indian Rupee depreciated significantly against the Dollar, some traders used a similar macro approach to make profits.
Paul Tudor Jones: The Master of Risk Management
Tumblr media
Paul Tudor Jones is known for his ability to predict market crashes and for his precise risk management techniques. His prediction of the 1987 stock market crash earned him legendary status.
Jones’s Approach:
Risk Management: Jones always focuses on protecting capital and uses strict stop-loss orders to minimize risk.
Contrarian Views: He often takes positions opposite to the consensus view, betting against the crowd when he sees an opportunity.
Jones’s risk management strategies have been a model for traders across the world, including in India, where stocks like Reliance Industries have seen significant volatility. Using risk management tools like stop-losses can help traders mitigate losses during unpredictable market movements.
Peter Lynch: Making Investing Simple for Everyone
Peter Lynch, the former manager of the Fidelity Magellan Fund, is celebrated for his approach of investing in companies that he understood and believed in. His mantra was to “invest in what you know.”
Lynch’s Approach:
Growth at a Reasonable Price (GARP): Lynch’s strategy combined aspects of growth and value investing.
Research and Simplicity: Lynch believed in conducting thorough research but also emphasized simplicity in understanding a business before investing in it.
In the Indian stock market, investors like Ashish Dhawan have adopted Lynch’s approach by focusing on sectors they understand, such as technology, retail, and healthcare.
Ray Dalio: Principles of a Hedge Fund Visionary
Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, is known for his principles-driven approach to investing. He focuses on economic cycles and uses data-driven methods to predict market trends.
Dalio’s Approach:
Principles: Dalio developed a set of principles that he uses for making decisions, both in life and investing.
Diversification: His famous All Weather Portfolio spreads risk across different asset classes to mitigate losses in any given market environment.
Dalio’s principles resonate with Indian investors as well, especially during times of market turmoil. Tools like strike.money help traders use data-driven approaches to minimize risks and maximize returns, a concept Dalio is known for.
Benjamin Graham: The Father of Value Investing
Benjamin Graham, the father of value investing, is a major influence on investors like Warren Buffett. He focused on buying stocks that were undervalued, offering a margin of safety in case the investment didn’t work out.
Graham’s Approach:
Value Investing: Graham’s core philosophy was that investors should buy stocks for less than their intrinsic value.
Margin of Safety: He believed that a safety margin between the purchase price and the intrinsic value would help protect against significant losses.
Graham’s philosophy has also influenced Indian investors, particularly those who focus on stocks with a strong balance sheet and low price-to-earnings ratios. Investors such as Dolly Khanna have followed this strategy to identify undervalued stocks in the Indian market.
John Templeton: The Original Global Investor
John Templeton was a pioneer in global investing, recognizing the opportunities outside the United States early on. He made millions by focusing on international markets and buying stocks when others were overly pessimistic.
Templeton’s Approach:
Contrarian Investing: Templeton famously said, “The time of maximum pessimism is the best time to buy.”
Global Diversification: He invested in markets around the world, often targeting emerging markets.
Tumblr media
In India, Templeton’s approach has inspired investors to look beyond domestic stocks and invest in global funds, especially during periods of local market volatility. Investors can now leverage international markets using platforms like strike.money to diversify their portfolios.
