ENTRY 316
I recently got back in touch with my former art teacher. It's been years. I met her in elementary school, and I'm 41 years old now.
I was so thankful for the chance to tell her what a positive impact she made on my life. A lot of people already tend to ask, "Elementary? Not high school or college?" Yes, elementary school because it was one of the only times a teacher actually liked me. As a kiddo with undiagnosed ADHD, I annoyed the hell outta my teachers. I never meant to, I wasn't bad, I just had some symptoms that weren't being treated.
This art class was different though. She instilled the love of art in me. She took time with me, showed me things two or three times if she had to. She didn't seem bothered by me at all. She even smiled at me! And she made us dried fruit right there in the classroom all the time. I still think of her when I pick up a bag of dried mangoes.
She shared stories in class about not only art history, but of being Native American and having a brother that's a Vietnam War veteran. Her class was about ART and LIFE, I'll never forget it. It was a completely different world in her classroom, an escape I desperately needed.
Sometimes she read stories to us in class if they were creative enough, and especially if they could accompany an art assignment in some way. One story stuck with me through the years, to the point where I don't even remember the rest of that day, only the story she read to us. It was one of the first things I asked about when I made contact.
It's a story about seeing the beauty within, within nature and the soul. I loved it because a powerful being and his sister saw the beauty in someone despite her appearance. This touched my heart when I was little because I wanted friends but wasn't liked. I wanted to share things with others, spend time, never really happened though. I was bullied at school and then I went home to an abusive environment. I had no one.
The girl in the story though, she got a happy ending and I loved this story so much, I was excited to ask about it in middle-age. I included a screenshot of the convo to show how I acted like a two year old. lol
I just wanted this book in my library and more than ever, I wanted to tell Miss Curtis how much she meant to me and what positive impact she made on my life. Both wishes were granted. I have the book and told her how amazing she is. Her kindness and creativity was everything. I'm glad I got to tell her that. More thoughts later.

Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas (2014)
In today's review, I find new meanings to traditional holiday celebrations, inside a car with a T.V. star. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2014 faith-based comedy documentary lecture film, Saving Christmas #KirkCameron #DarrenDoane
The holiday season can be a wondrous time, even if you celebrate religiously or not. The commercial impact can somewhat be seen as a dampener for those who seek out the more wholesome, and spiritual aspects of the season. In 2014, former sitcom star, Kirk Cameron, teamed up with Darren Doane in a car, on a mission to Saving Christmas. T.V. Star, Kirk Cameron, leads the charge in this film! It…

L'Opossum, Richmond, 4/7/23
entrance – 626 China St, Richmond, VA 23220 L’Opossum offers a quirky take on traditional French cuisine in a very eclectic interior, masterminded by Chef/Owner David Shannon. Opening in 2015 it immediately won the Elby (Richmond-region award) Dining award for Best New Restaurant and in 2017 won the Chef of the Year and Restaurant of the Year. You can see why it also has claimed fame as the…

Hello OperaFanToMet
Do you have any photos of David Shannon as the phantom.
But not the Catherine Ashmore ones?
Just of him in costume?
Many thanks
I don't know when I became OperaFanToMet (my nick means "The Phantom of the Opera" in Norwegian), but I'll take it...
There aren't a whole lot of non-stage photos of David Shannon as the Phantom. He was beautifully photographed by Catherine Ashmore, but he played the role for one short year and not a lot of backstage photos surfaced. Partly because it was in the infant years of social media, partly because they were still a bit reluctant to share backstage stuff in 2009.
So what I have is him and Gina Beck goofing around:
Post-performance photo with Gina Beck and Simon Bailey:
Curtain call with Rachel Barrell:
And him documenting the use of contact lense:
That's about it.

Even as a kid I knew there was something just wrong about A Bad Case of Stripes
It gave me a weird feeling as a kid too, and I think it's a combination of the illustration style and the subject matter.
David Shannon has such a particular, oil painting esque style. Most of his illustrations are very cartoony, like his iconic No David books:
Like look at that! The features and proportions are exaggerated! Full of bright colors! Reminiscent of something a kid might draw.
But then there's A Bad Case of Stripes. In this book Shannon seems to lean much more into the realm of surrealism, and the result is...
...uncanny. I mean look at those faces!!! Nothing like the caricature bulbous head of little David. These guys look like they crawled out of a Renaissance painting! Look at the shading!!! It looks like you could reach out and touch those little fuzzy blue pompoms! Which brings me to my next point...
A Bad Case of Stripes is just... kid-friendly body horror. There's no gore in it, but what this girl goes through is something straight out of a fever induced nightmare.
Just like those creepy realistic renders of what Patrick Star or Homer Simpson would look like in real life (remember those?) It's the realism, the 3d look, the impeccable shading that makes Stripes so damn creepy. In a more cartoonish style, Stripes probably would've been a wacky little kids book. But because of how realistic the illustrations are...
...We wound up with the suppressed birthplace of body horror phobias for generations to come.
#dont get me wrong tho i love this book. i love how creepy it is in retrospect#its a nightmare (affectionate)#i think its a deep (sometimes repressed) memory for a lot of people and thats why i thought it'd make the perfect pfp for this blog#lesbianatroi#omg i just realized the pun in your username. thats hilarious i love that. thank you for the ask lesbianatroi XD#ask#nostalgia#david Shannon#body horror#slight body horror#surreal#unreality#a bad case of stripes#y2k nostalgia#repressed memories#unlocked memories#2000s kids#gen z nostalgia

Cheesy Christian Movies Month 4 - Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
Cheesy Christian Movies Month 4 – Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas
Merry Christmas everyone. Hope your weather is better than mine. Ah, Kirk Cameron. To say the least, he’s an interesting guy. He’s a well-known Evangelical Christian celebrity, who is part of The Way of the Master ministry, along with co-founding The Firefly Foundation with his wife, Chelsea Noble. His sister, Candace Cameron Bure, is also known in the entertainment industry. All three of them…
