Help!
Imagine Lucy in 1967. Obviously a 1977 Datsun doesn’t exist yet. What does Lucy drive instead?
A- 1959 Datsun Sports 1000 roadster (the earlier model of Lucy’s ‘77 Datsun) (both pictures are of the same model)
B- 1950 VW Beetle
C- 1957 Toyota Toyopet
D-1951 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe
E- 1950s Nash Rambler
I can’t decide if having an older, more beat up and unsafer car is more important, or having an import, or a style.

What a difference 54 years makes juxtaposition of Nissan Sunny 1000 DX, 1966 and Nissan Versa, 2020. The B10 series was sold internationally as the first generation Datsun 1000, Nissan’s sub-compact saloon that was to evolve through multiple (the exact number depends on which market) generations into the Versa for the US market in 2006. The third generation Versa has been revealed at the Rock the Ocean's Tortuga Music Festival

#sunny1000dx #datsun #nissan https://www.instagram.com/p/CkztzzwhOcu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Car eras for people who don’t know anything about cars
Nowadays, most cars look the same. Albeit more electronics choking out the mechanicals, making them harder to work on, a small facelift, but most of the lines stay the same because of “aerodynamics”. These are car eras for dummies, I will go a little in depth on the 90′s, 80′s, 70′s, and even the 60′s.
(these have my opinions in them)
The 90′s
Toyota Corolla
Nissan Sentra
These particular examples are from the 90s. The similarities are there, as this was around the time electronics started to dominate the car scene. A/C came stock, radios, even electric seatbelts, which went out of style quickly. If we were to compare with their 80′s counterparts, they were more boxy, and sharp. 90′s was the era of “bubble” cars. But, the looks didn’t really matter, because most people bought their cars from the companies that they had luck with before. For an example, My step-dad has owned 4 Nissan Sentras throughout the years. One from 1988, 1989, 1992, and 1993. I happened to get the one from 92, and I can see why he bought so many. Not here to talk about my love for old Sentras. Anyway.
The 80′s
Nissan Sentra (1984)
Toyota Corolla (1984)
No, I didn’t post the same car twice. This was originally going to be about car conforming over the years, and I feel now is a good time to address it. As I said in the last paragraph, people didn’t care much about looks but more so about loyalty to a specific company. Kinda like how you would buy an Android phone because it didn’t blow up on you, and you’re not willing to buy an Apple because you don’t know if it’ll blow up because you’ve never had one before. Company loyalty. Anyways, the 80′s was a time for rad music, and rad cars. Boxy cars with sharp angles, and... optional door panels. That’s right, door panels and A/C were optional. Everything was optional, really. Which made them really. Really. Cheap. Also you could tune the hell out of 80′s cars. So the next time you see grandma’s Volvo at the dragstrip, you know it’s taking people to Gapplebee’s.
(also as an example for how optional was optional, A/C, Door panels, radios, even seatbelts, were optional. Because safety is overrated.)
The 70′s
Oldsmobile 442
Ford Torino
Ah, the 70′s. Woodstock, Vinyl, long hair, and most importantly, badass cars. No government interference, no seatbelts, no A/C, maybe even a small AM radio. That didn’t matter, because it was all about power. Street racing, bald tires and loud sirens. I must admit, this is, in my (not so humble) opinion, the best era of cars. What’s better than 300 screaming bald eagles under the hood? 500! 1000! the possibilities were endless, because racing and music were all people really cared about. They even had badass names, like the Plymouth Roadrunner, Dodge Challenger and Charger, Mercury Cougar, Ford Torino and Mustang, Chevy Stingray Corvette, Oldsmobile 442 and Cutlass (from the four barrel carburetor, 4-speed manual transmission, and dual exhaust), AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird---and I’m going off the rails. I won’t forget the foreign cars, like Datsun’s Fairlady Z, which was just gaining traction in America. Datsun later became Nissan. I also recommend looking up 70′s concept cars, you know they were doing some...you know what. Cocaine. Now that I think about it, concept cars look pretty sucky now...Coincidence? Ahem.
The 60′s
Ford Galaxie
Chevy Impala
Here we see car conforming again. Now that I think about it more, it’s mostly trends. The different ways people interpret the future throughout the years, reflect on the vehicles as well. Just look at the UFO sightings throughout the years and you will see what I mean. The 60′s happened to be the year of huge tailfins, and huge cars. Almost long enough to be limos. I can almost feel the sunshine coming off the Impala, which yanks me back to having a picnic in a cheesy checkered dress pouring lemonade for my kids with ideal childhoods with daddy at work owning a supply company and being very wealthy to own a long boat of a car, with no power steering. (No power steering led to the huge steering wheels, because leverage.) Maybe after the picnic you would put on a bathing suit and go play in the ocean, while you sat with your neighbors gossiping. The fact that just looking at a car from the 60′s gives me vivid details like that is concerning. There are also notable muscle cars from this era, like the Dodge Charger, Chevy Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Pontiac GTO. I won’t go off on a rant about muscle cars this time. You are safe, for now.
Still here? Good! Thanks for reading.
I might do another installation on my opinions and knowledge on cars. Maybe even on specific cars, or even car parts, like the optional Shaker Hood for the Dodge Challenger.
#rants#cars#90s#90s cars#80s#80s cars#70s#70s cars#i totally didnt go off on a wild tangent about the 60s what
