Holmes and Watson not only mention their shared love of tobacco in this scene but also that they indulge in alcoholic beverages in any quantity. They confess they both were dead drunk when Holmes shoot his name in the wall. Nothing human is alien to them.

This is the last episode of the unfortunately only six-part series and was first broadcast on 17.03.1968.

So... Holmes shot his own name on the wall of 221b as a promise to Watson: if I accomplish this, you can share a shag with me --- forever.

Let's remind everyone entering Baker Street forever that it's Sherlock Holmes AND John Watson --- forever. Also, let's remind Watson of it by sharing an ounce of shag in a shared chair, both smoking a very phallic pipe.

There's homoerotic subtext and "desperately unspoken", and then there's Shallow!Holmes (TV series from 1967). Sexual puns? So 2010s.
