Little things relating to the doodles of ur interested teehee‼️

- Darry (and Dally) are the only people who can hold Two’s perching weight, so Darry very commonly has a bird just, there.

- Dally still snaps and loses it. Johnny ‘dies’ (heart stopped, declared clinically dead— gets resuscitated though) and Dally bolted the second after he ‘died’. Dude gets shot by the cops, the gang gets him to the hospital and he lives thank god. Two stress plucks tho lmao.

- The socs who jumped two wear his stolen feathers out loud n proud. Just to mock him, pretty much. He is NOT happy and neither are the other harpies!

(Speaking of which, the Shepard gang is a bunch of harpies too, a lot of vultures compared to the Mathews being a crow)

- Two-Bit n Dally were childhood friends, he’s the one who found Two after he got jumped. Dally’s so pissed ab what happened with Pony n Johnny that he wants some sick gratitude by seeing exactly where Bob took his last breath, so that’s where he finds him. I AM SO BRAINROTTED ON THIS AU DUDE. It's so over, I can't come back from this. We got so much talked about for it and it's only existed for like 2 days, it's so good. We made an ao3 collection for the AU as well that you can find here! Timewing has already posted a little drabble to it, so have fun >:)

how do you guys think pony and soda felt when paul suddenly stopped talking to darry after their parents died? like did they immediately hate him? did they ask darry? did darry snap at them if they asked about paul?

and for paul do you think he still thinks of darry? and does he secretly stop some socs going after pony or soda pre the book events?

sorry, thinking about darry and the dog motif again.

i LOVE walton ford’s ‘gleipnir’ (pictured on the left), and by extension his ‘tyr’ (pictured on the right.) i’m also just obsessed with black dog mythology in general, but i’m especially taken with fenrir.

anyways, some iterations of the story go that the gods knew fenrir would grow to swallow the sun, so, in an attempt to stop valhalla from happening, they’d hoped to domesticate fenrir and recruit him to their cause. tyr, who’d been saddled with this task, quickly realized that there was no denying the prophecy, but a bond had been built between the two, so, when it came time, he helped bind fenrir. fenrir, thinking it was a game, broke free of the first couple bindings. but sensing there was something different about gleipnir, he forced tyr to put his hand in his mouth as an act of good faith.

moral of the story: sometimes you put your hand in the dog’s mouth knowing you’re going to get bit.

this is something paul knows.

he’s grown up alongside darrel. he’s well acquainted with those moments of stillness, and those bursts of kinetic energy from their time playing football together.

(paul was darry’s best receiver and all that.)

but that’s why i find their dynamic so interesting.

when they meet again at the rumble, paul puts his hand in darry’s mouth. he knows he’s going to get bit.

he wards this thing over darry’s head, this idea that he’d almost gotten out, that he’d almost been one of them.

and that taunting is the same thing that scares two-bit and ponyboy.

‘darrel almost went soc on us.’

this thing that’s chained and bound darry is his social class.

there’d been a day, many days prior to the day paul’s fist had finally connected to the side of darry’s face, in which paul’s pledge of good faith had been that he’d get him out.

and some part of both of them had known, even then—even when the pledge had been made hopeful and in good faith, because they’d been friends back then—that no amount of madras shirts or hair grease (or lack thereof) would be able to erase the harsh reality of their birthrights.

also, sometimes, the dog bites itself.
