I swear I am happy

For the childhood I was given

I’m actually pleasantly surprised with the happiness I have created for myself

To be fair, I wasn’t even sure such happiness and contentness existed

But sometimes

In the middle of the day or late at night

I think about that little girl who lived in shades of black and gray

And I wish she would’ve known where she was headed

That could’ve made the wait easier
