One of the most stunning places in Ireland are the "Dark Hedges". This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland. The iconic beech trees have been used as a filming location in HBO's epic series Game of Thrones, representing the Kingsroad.

Here's my take on this famous view of the dark hedges in Northern Ireland. The traditional (and arguably best) composition at the site includes much more of the lower foreground, so that you have the road as a leading line through the centre of the image. I personally decided to cut almost all the road to focus on the trees. For me it captures a more fairytale feel, like a scene from Tolkien's Lothlorien.
