Here's my take on this famous view of the dark hedges in Northern Ireland. The traditional (and arguably best) composition at the site includes much more of the lower foreground, so that you have the road as a leading line through the centre of the image. I personally decided to cut almost all the road to focus on the trees. For me it captures a more fairytale feel, like a scene from Tolkien's Lothlorien. What do you think? #wyldfyngs #darkhedges #thedarkhedges #gameofthrones #agameoftones #tolkienfan #ireland #irish #loveireland #discoverireland #northernisland #landscape_lover #folkgreen #folkscenery #fairytalephotography #yourshotphotographer #natgeoyourshot #lonelyplanet #travelpics #nomadict #awesomedreamplaces #theweekoninstagram #woodland #2020nd #beyondthelands #depthsofearth #lightroomedit #earthofficial #OutdoorTones #theweekoninstagram (at Dark Hedges Antrim) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEPPCvFgdr-/?igshid=89skj9j4pp7c

•••🌟second end post of the whole blog - can't believe it's been so long since I last talked about them... this is part 1 of the pre-atom age [that's to say, before xtc's multipairing world won my writing life] icons me and dear @heartbeatkittie used on Tumblr - as you see they bear the old logo. here's a very young phil judd taken from one of his earliest enz photos, when the band was still called split /ends/. this non-studio picture sent back to the awakening times of 1973, when the band was coming to life and about to pop on the musical scene [almost contemporarily to the young lads of xtc, who were rockin' round under the name of helium kidz]. looks very natural, touched by the sunlight and is harmonised by the roundness of his shirt collar. behind phil, the angry skies of whitianga show the glorious beauty of this as one of the northwards landmarks of new zealand's northern island. the sand of its shores is very dark, so dark when I placed the b/w it looked already gun-grey. in placing phil on the towering blue cumulus clouds, I took care in making his presence in the pic look very collage-like, that's why his hair are roughly cut. I then added the brush swirl to recall of maori moko. to match the collage/zine aesthetic i picked courier font and scribbled down the title of a later tim-penned 8os song melancholically (whata wordsmith) rests among my favourites. written around 1978, performed in the luton sessions [bringing an equally intense feeling], this song evokes the tribal, primal feeling of native life in new zealand's wilderness. it was the song that made me start the fic I will tell you about on part two, but in this occasion, it came as a natural choice - it felt like tim shouting in the wind to a far, distant phil, 'you remember when we were me and you, free, doing everything together? I can, can you as well?' 🌟••• #splitenz #newzealand #whitianga #shores #darksand #stormy #clouds #northwards #northernisland #awakening #music #70smusic #philjudd #bside #rememberwhen #collage #maori #moko #icon #fanzine #courier #font #lettering #bluehues #blue #timfinn #song #tumblr #calling

Number 4. Similar to 5, this shot of Dunluce Castle put together years of failure trying to get this type of shot. Again I used a B+W filter to get a purple hue to this 30sec long exposure. I love the composition of this one, it’s in the ratio of thirds which is probably why it’s pleasing to my eye. #mybest #top100 #dunlucecastle #dunlucecastlenorthernireland #northernisland (at Dunluce Castle)

"Road to Lothlorien 2"... So most of you voted that you thought the compositon of my last dark hedges post would be better if it included the road through the trees. Here is my shot including the road, what do you think? Do you prefer it? I stuck with the same name for the photo as the place reminds me so much of Tolkien's Lothlorien. #wyldfyngs #darkhedges #thedarkhedges #gameofthrones #agameoftones #tolkienfan #ireland #irish #loveireland #discoverireland #northernisland #landscape_lover #folkgreen #folkscenery #fairytalephotography #yourshotphotographer #natgeoyourshot #lonelyplanet #travelpics #nomadict #awesomedreamplaces #theweekoninstagram #woodland #2020nd #beyondthelands #depthsofearth #lightroomedit #earthofficial #OutdoorTones #theweekoninstagram (at Northern Ireland Dark Hedges) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEZePjcgWUR/?igshid=krbncvh1ovhl

Still in Coromandel🙊 Peter offered us to take the kayaks out to the beach on Saturday and therefore Alex and I are still here☺️ Today we hitchhiked to the supermarket in Whitianga which is a 30minute drive. Imagine to drive half an hour to the supermarket cause there is nothing else around😳 Afterwards we spent the whole afternoon at Hahei Beach, climed up a rock to swing on a rope. #backpacker #backpack #travel #world #nature #scenic #worldtrip #trip #travelling #nz #girl #girls #photo #pod #newzealand #northernisland #coromandel #beach #water #sun #ocean #sea #swing

How the Scottish fucked it for everyone
I keep seeing high ranking members of the Scottish National Party, SNP for short, making the argument about having a second independence referendum. They had one before and voted to stay and that should have been the end of it. The problem is they snuck a sneaky clause into the terms of their referendum whereby they could call another vote should the status quo of the UK change.
Change it did.
The UK as a whole voted to leave the EU but Scotland predominantly voted to stay. This means, that in accordance with that stupid little clause, they can potentially call another referendum. The idea of them leaving the UK to join Europe is an enticing one for those who wish to stay behind. HOWEVER, and it’s a fucking big however… For a country to join the EU ALL of the member states have to agree before they can join. This means that Scotland will need the approval of 28 countries.
Scotland might not like the way things are going but they need to get on board and quickly. Things aren’t going to work out quite the way she’d hoped because of some bad news. Spain have already told her that they will veto her acceptance into the EU. I imagine there are a number of countries just like Spain who haven’t made their opinions public.
Nicola Sturgeon believes that Scotland has the resources to break away from the rest of the UK. They have oil and export a lot of alcohol but what else? There are a number of articles that point out Scotland would have been better off over the years, contributing more money per person in tax compared to other UK countries, and that Westminster has been sucking away money for decades which could have been better spent on their own country. They make claims that leaving would boost exports. The USA is a large buyer of these exports but if they are to join the EU they would have less opportunities to do so. The EU wants to keep money within the EU, not let any slip out. We also kicked up a fuss about keeping the pound. The Bank of England had already pointed out that it didn’t like the idea of Scotland using the same currency as us should it break away so most likely they’d be forced to use the Euro. Scotland pay a lot of money to Westminster because they simply owe the money. Scotland might think they can survive on their own but the honest truth is, they can’t. Not straight away anyway. Many of their businesses are too embedding the rest of the UK and though they may be a country primed for development it’s a scary idea for investors to jump on board of a country breaking off of another country, breaking off of the EU. It’s economic madness! They have an aging population and many of the services that would cost English patients and arm and a leg, Scotland get for free. They get free tuition, as well. This is all because England subsidise a lot of services Scotland take for granted. If we were to suddenly take those services away from them, saving us money in the process, it would cripple their country. Another problem that Scotland face, should they actually join the EU is the growing issue of moving away from fossil fuels. Several countries have set out to eliminate fossil fuels completely, it won’t happen overnight but it doesn’t necessarily have to. The price of oil depends on its abundance and demand. The more Scotland drill, and they will have to to match demand, the more likely they are to limit their supply. Remember kids, oil doesn’t grow on trees. It ‘grows’ in the ground over an incredibly long time, longer than the world as we know it has been a thing. If all of the countries decide to move away from fossil fuels then there will be no need to drill it, killing off that income source for the entire country.
The problem with fossil fuels runs far deeper than simply screwing up the planet. There is a real threat of utter collapse in huge parts of the world. If countries moved to clean energy sources like solar, wind or geothermal the planet would be a lot greener, yes. Then what happens to the countries that rely on fossil fuels? Countries such as those in the middle east? The middle east is in a perilous situation at the moment because they refuse to integrate into the modern world and export oil is one of their few means of making money. If you take that away the countries will fall even more into ruin. No one is going to want to negotiate with a country if all it has to offer is sand and perpetual war.
We’re allies with Saudi Arabia because they give us cheap oil in exchange for looking the other way while they breach every human rights law under the sun. If they have no oil to barter with, then the monarchy collapses. To be honest, they might not be a bad thing. We should welcome a more progressive middle eastern presence.
Scotland is modern enough to increase production in other areas than oil. This is what will save them. Relying on oil in a world moving away from fossil fuels is ridiculous. If Scotland move to renewable energy then there isn’t much point in them exporting it. Almost any country on earth can harness some form of renewable energy and it’s mind boggling why they haven’t already. The problem is, we all know why we haven’t. No one will say anything because it seems like a taboo subject. The people in control of these oil companies are basically holding governments, corporations and people hostage. No one will put the money needed into converting to clean energy because there is no benefit in doing so at the moment. And when someone comes along and does spend an extraordinarily large amount of money they are so bogged down in patents they can’t do anything. These patents are all owned by the energy companies anyway. 50 years down the line and we’ll be laughing but now it’s cheaper to keep buying oil.
You could argue that Scotland have a huge potential for wave energy but there is a problem. If they were to have a power cable running from the top of Scotland to the bottom of England you’d lose so much of the energy along the way that it wouldn’t be a viable export option. Of course, no one in their right mind would construct a power grid quite like that but the problem persists on a smaller scale as well. With current technology there will always be loss of energy simply because the efficiency. That being said, Scotland only has to power Scotland for it to be a success. In the end, it is up to Scotland whether they want to become independent of the UK but it would be a bad idea. The independence campaign argues that many business are interested in setting up branches all over Scotland but I wonder how many of those are English funded ventures and not homegrown scottish businesses.
They owe us a lot of money and should they choose to leave, we’ll want that money back. The SNP have said that they wouldn’t need to pay the money but if they stick to fingers up to us, why would the EU let someone in if they might do the same to them?
The United Kingdom is leaving the EU. WE are leaving. Scotland have to choose whether to join us on the warpath or get out of the way. When outside countries think of the UK they think of London. They don’t think of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland and while it may be unpleasant for them they have to accept that. Even other parts of England suffer sometimes before of this but at the end of the day, we all prosper because we’re part of one big not-so-happy family.
