I don't know if this was always mentioned, but I personally headcannon Daroach, being the charming gentleman thief he is, likes to playfully flirt with Susie from time to time. Either to steal something from her, or just to mess with her.

Gentleman thief vs Business woman just seems like a fun dynamic to play with!

Yes, I think they have a potentially wonderful dynamic and ought to interact WAY more than they do! Red and Pink. Grey and White. Rich business woman and literal RAT MAN. (Both "ice" themed too.)

...Not to mention that before she was a CEO, Susie fashioned herself as a "corporate spy" working against her father! Spy vs Thief, anyone? She may know some tricks of her own from that particular skillset! And boy, wouldn't THAT be a fun conversation to listen in on!

(And yet you can see how they would have completely different outtakes on life, too! Business and order versus the free life of a phantom thief! A woman who is always looking centuries forward technology-wise vs a rat man who acts and dresses like he's from an 18th century crime novel, including fantasy steampunk tech.)

Now, I'm one of the odd ones who sees *most* of the cast as adults, including those that others don't (it's a personal attachment / investment + wanting to see more spectrum-coded adults in fiction thing) but I can appreciate the fun of having the ones who feel the most "inarguably adult" have a little playful "strictly business" flirting!

Also bit of Metaroach Headcanons as well because I love this ship

Meta Knight and Daroach 100% have a secret relationship going on. Mainly because a Upper class citizen dating a Lower class citizen would probably be seen as a huge scandal, so they keep their relationship hush hush.

If Daroach in this universe were to be possessed by Dark Nebula, I could 100% see it as a sort of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde type situation where one moment would be himself, and the next a absolute maniac causing nothing but chaos and destruction though will have no memory the next morning. And the more he turns the worst it would get.

Is an absolute hot mess when it comes to taking pain medicine to help deal with any injuries he would get when pulling off heists, and when under the influence of medicine becomes incredibly flirty and will flirt with Meta Knight who would just be trying to take care this dumbass rat who thought it was a good idea to jump out of a closed window to avoid getting caught by the police.

Definitely gets stressed out during his cafe shifts, mainly because of Dedede who definitely is picky about how his food is prepared, and after his shifts pets the Squeakers like kitties to calm down.

Absolutely has a passion for playing the piano, and has written a few songs, most about Meta Knight.

If he were to have a favorite customer, it would hands down be Kirby due to they're large appetite.

I would imagine that the reason why Daroach dislikes the Upper class is because he used to work for one, however was mistreated, treated like trash and was underpaid. So as a middle finger decided to devote his life into robbing from the Upper class and giving the hard working the money they deserve... Well not all Upper class he would steal from.

hi i know it's been awhile since any ask game, but can you tell me about what you think of mk?

003 Meta Knight

It has been forever! And since I gave all the other mains the classic ask game treatment, it's only fair we go back to formula for that most meta of knights: Meta Knight!

How I Feel About This Character:

Meta Knight was my first Kirby love. I was completely blown away by the concept of an opponent who would challenge you to A DUEL! I mean, we were supposed to chose the copy abilities, but he's like "...We fight with swords here." That was amazing!

...And I thought the whole masked swordsman thing was incredibly cool and the fact that he looked just aww'dorable underneath was icing on the cake. (And he gets embarrassed when it breaks! Eeeeee!)

Meta Knight is probably the #1 gap moe character in Kirby. (Oh gosh, I really hope everyone knows what "gap moe" means by now. Because it's really hard to explain otherwise.) Anyway, cool knight on the outside, secret puffball on the inside.

Any/All the People I Ship Romantically With This Character:

I ship MetaDede, but mostly casually and with...conditions. (Oh no, am I moving into hot takes already?!?)

Basically.... :clears throat: I don't go in for "fluffy, tender dads" MetaDede. Or just fluffy MetaDede in general. (Or fluffy Meta...) I don't think of the two of them as sharing secret kisses, brushing a bit of food off the other's cheek, or whispering sweet things to each other in bed. No shade on people who DO ship them like that! ...But I am much more comfortable with them as "two people who grew close in the midst of battle/conflict." I expect, for me, neither of them are that upfront about their feelings, and neither really actually ENJOY embarrassing the other with traditionally sweet affections.

I think their romance is built on respect for each other's positions and the duties they each have to uphold. A very business-like relationship. To the point that no one looking in from outside would even know they were in a relationship. And maybe THEY wouldn't see it as such either. But there's something undeniable about them that casually draws them to each other. And they must know it too.

(I'm trying to remember if in FL it was stated anywhere that Meta Knight made it as far as White Horns before turning back? The chance that he ran into brainwashed Dedede and was torn between his sense of duty - "If he's endangering the others, shouldn't -I- stop him?" versus this feeling in his gut that he just CAN'T be the one to end Dedede, even if it was for the good of Waddle Dee town and all the survivors from Dream Land. So he returns to guard them. He would rather fight a losing battle of attrition against greater numbers until his last breath than put Dedede to the sword. Even if that would solve things quicker. Even if he knows this isn't what Dedede would want. Instead, Meta quietly prays for Kirby to arrive and find the courage he doesn't have. </fanfic>)

Of course, that doesn't mean they won't poke at each other's weak spots. But I'd say that's probably the closest they come to flirting. Dedede eggs Meta Knight to one of their picnics KNOWING the knight has a sweet tooth. And Meta Knight will occasionally check in to see if Dedede is REALLY doing the work his title expects of him.

Also, they play chess. A lot. That is THEIR THING.

Anyway, they're good stuff. I do feel like I struggle to find MetaDede content that plays to my particular version of the pairing though? Then again, I guess my version probably doesn't look like MetaDede on the outside. On the OTHER HAND, Kirby Fighters 2 exists and that's basically a love letter to my kind of MetaDede so I can't complain.

I also ship MetaRoach (at least in the Dreamy Gear-verse.) But I don't have much more to say about that other than the fact that it is A THING.

My Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship For This Character:

Hrm.... Probably Meta Knight and Dark Meta Knight? Try as I might, I don't think I really ship romantically them (...yet?) but I LOVE the parallels. I enjoy the weird Pugsly and Wednesday Addams thing they may have going on. (At least, from DMK's perspective.) I enjoy them comparing notes with each other. Talking to each other. DUELING each other in that kind of super intense "are they training or are they trying to kill each other?!" way that no one else would put up with/understand/stand for, but the two of them understand that they BOTH need this - to dance a while on the edge of life and death in the heat of battle - in their heart of hearts?

But also, the Meta-Knights. They're so loyal! "Meta Knight's Revenge" is such a good (mini) game and what I like the most is how they're all talking amongst each other. Okay, Meta Knight isn't talking THAT much but he's there and it just kind of works. Plus, they do things like fix (or replace) the Halberd for him between games.

What a wholesome group of space mercenaries!

My Unpopular Opinion About This Character:

I kind of covered this in the shipping section, but while I adore Meta Knight for his gap moe (looks tough and unapproachable/has his soft and clumsy sides) I don't care that much for a Meta who is NOTHING but a complete wobbly mess of sugar on the inside. To me, he has to have some actual serious edge to him or it just doesn't work.

I don't know how I feel about bringing these terms up here, but just as a shortcut, I'll say I find an "uke" Meta Knight to be a bit of a waste.

And if he's always the caring mentor, always the reliable friend, always the team dad, then he loses something...to me.

(He challenges Kirby to a sword fight almost every time they meet!!)

I don't know if this one is unpopular or not, and I understand the "we changed it because 3D" reasoning, but I'm still upset Meta Knight no longer has white/silver eyes. Booooooo! Silver eyes were better!

...Also, for as horrible as Mecha Knight is, conceptually, I love it! Ahhh, I love it so much and I'm glad we have it! If I wasn't burdened with a huge pile of ideas I want to draw for my other bias/comfort characters, I would be drawing Mecha Knight. Oops.

I don't know about unpopular for this one either, but I really dig Transmaskmetaknight’s "trans-mas(c)k" Meta Knight headcanon. I see starfolk/astrals/voidborn as having no gender by birth (fitting with the JP side's "gender: unspecified" trait of both Kirby and Meta Knight) but my own Meta Knight is, for his species, a trans-man and uses male pronouns. And I do see the mask as playing into his gender presentation and identity.

...This section is getting worrisomely long, haha! Okay, last one. His JP voice in the anime is gorgeous and beautiful and when he laughs, it does things to my heart, but I really enjoy his bad Antonio Banderas impression in the dub too!! I mean, I'd enjoy it more if you could hear more acting through the accent. (I can't believe it's Eric Stuart playing him!) He seems so underplayed, and TOO soft-spoken, which is a shame. Keep the accent but also ham it up a little!

One Thing I Wish Would Happen / Had Happened With This Character in Canon:

...We're NEVER going to get a Meta Knight backstory. 

It's never going to happen. Anything resembling a Meta Knight official backstory would break the whole dang Kirby universe open, for one thing. Because then we'd know if he and Kirby are the same species. We'd know how long he's been around. We'd know stuff about how their species works. What his goal is. What the end game for Kirby as a series is!

He's almost as much of a lynchpin to the Kirby series as Kirby themselves!

...But we will NEVER find out anything about him. I almost guarantee it. Even if there was a Kirby JRPG, we wouldn't learn about Meta Knight. If there was a new Kirby anime, we wouldn’t learn anything about him. (Or it would be immediately classified as “not truly canon.”) Even if there was a "final" Kirby game, we still won't learn about Meta Knight. I'm almost positive Meta Knight and what he is will be a secret the developers take to their graves.

Oh yes! Here’s nother thing that would have been cool!

I guess the "Meta" in Meta Knight's name likely stood for "Metamorphosis" or something similar, and that originally he was going to have multiple forms he went through?? Like, in the form we know him as know he was "Meta Knight" because he was a swordsman, but there might have been a "Meta Wizard", a "Meta Thief", a "Meta Robot!" (...I'm just making these up, btw) And I think it's a bit of a shame that plan fell through. Meta has no copy abilities of his own, which gives him character, but a Meta Knight who shifted from game to game would have been very cool too.

On that note, I'm extremely fond of the headcanon that starfolk/astrals/voidborn have that trait of Daemons in His Dark Materials where their form/abilities are fluid until a certain point where they get locked into a form and for Meta Knight, that was the sword copy ability. Going with this, I enjoy the idea that, on the one hand, he's kinda okay with this and keeps encouraging Kirby to also go with the sword (and obviously, Galacta and Morpho are at least somewhat sword-affiliated themselves. Though I guess you could reason Galacta Knight out to be a Spear Copy Ability user...) But on the other hand, I wonder if this Meta Knight wouldn’t occasionally mourn the flexibility of their youth....?

It must suck to have the power to be whatever you want at any given time and then one day lose it forever...

Favorite Friendship For This Character:

...Oh gosh. I can't really pick one? Obviously, I enjoy his interactions with Kirby. Especially in things like the novel where he tries hard to act like a supportive mentor figure but then goes overboard and either becomes too overprotective or falls flat on his face in an adorably clumsy manner?

But one thing I wanted to say regarding friendships is that (oh boy, another unpopular opinion?) I'm a little tired of seeing "Meta Knight would NEVER forgive Magolor/still sees Magolor as sus!" 

To me, it rings of "the noble character who is a bastion of justice casting righteous judgement upon the character with dark grey morals who did a bad thing." And while I don't disagree with that interpretation of Magolor and his morals, I definitely don't agree with the idea of Meta Knight being some kind of Lawful Good paladin type who is fit to judge others for their crimes.

HE TRIED TO TAKE OVER POPSTAR! Not only that, he's a certified Battle Maniac. A Blood Knight, if you will. He loves to fight. He loves to fight so much he will fight you any number of times in FL’s arena. Oh yeah, he's there to protect the Waddle Dees. Yep. Totally ONLY there to protect the Waddle Dees. 

Also, Meta Knight is a huge nerd and while he might be a little miffed at Magolor's betrayal, like all the cast have a right to, his curiosity is probably going to get the better of him and he's going to end up approaching Magolor a number of times like "....Psst. Are you REALLY from Halcandra? Because...I have questions."

...And then Magolor makes him (literally) pay for the answers.

Anyway, I certainly don't mind them having a slightly thorny relationship, but I just can't get behind "Meta Knight distrusts Magolor and would fight him in RL to keep him away from the others because Meta is a good guy and Mags is bad" because it feels...well, almost hypocritical of him to do so? (If you’re writing a hypocritical Meta Knight, that’s one thing...)

Personally, I also just think their relationship is a lot more fun if Magolor continues to find ways to win back his trust only to turn around and swindle him again because Meta Knight has a surprisingly gullible side too!

FREE SPACE/Recs:

...You'd think there'd be some amazing fanmade video out there with a heavy focus on Meta Knight, but I couldn't find one. So, free talk it is!

-Meta Knight's love of sweets is the best. And the fact that he always tries to hide it, running off to various dark corners with an illicit treat is just perfect.

-Meta Knight's in-canon popularity is also amusing. That he has people falling over themselves to get his attention in Dreamy Gear. (At least, as I remember it.)

-I can't stop listening to Meta Knight's retro power ballad vocal track from the Memorial Album since I first learned about it. (I knew about the Apple Juice song thanks to the animation, but I hadn't heard "Take Off!" until recently and now I'm hooked.)

-The stuff with Galaxia is so interesting! As a non-anime watcher, I always just assumed that, as graphics got better, they decided to redesign Meta's sword to be more stylish. I didn't realize it had a whole background story in the anime! And then...it just subtly gets imported into the game-verse and decides to stay there?! Anyway, it's a great sword. The fact that we saw him keep his original NES sword as a spare is neat too. So, maybe we'll learn something about game Galaxia in the future after all? (...Even if Meta stays a secret?)

-Vaguely related to FL, I joked in my Star Dream essay that Meta Knight ruins all my headcanons about Clockwork Stars being NO GOOD Monkey’s Paw devices because HE makes a wish to fight Galacta Knight and is fine. (And then is also fine when dealing with Star Dream?) But then, I later discovered that connection between Elfilis and the Novae and it hit me - Meta was the only one who was able to shake off (rather, fight off) Forgo's phantasmal dreamscape powers. So of course he would be immune to any physical/mental corruption that comes with wishing on a Clockwork Star!!

It may even be a species trait? We never saw what would have happened to Kirby if they hadn't been interrupted in Milky Way Wishes, but I get the feeling that, with what we know of Meta Knight, Kirby would have come out fine.

Okay. I think that's it? I don't normally get -embarrassed- at the end of a HC/ask post, but I um, hope this didn't have too many hot takes in it or make anyone feel bad? I know I was a little harsher than I like to be in regards to my takes on Meta's character versus what I see in the fandom, but I still strongly believe Kirby is a series for everyone and for everyone to have fun WITH, so I hope no one feels left out by anything I wrote!
