OUAT hot(? Perhaps lukewarm) take: Dark Swan arc would be vastly improved by two (2) things.

1. Scaly Emma. Emma should be scaly and reptilian in the Enchanted Forest and they cover it with a glamour in Camelot. Same for Hook when that happens. This show CANNOT be too good to cover their leads in weird glitter and contact lenses; if Robert Carlyle can do it, so can they. Gimme gimme gimmegimmegimme

2. In Storybrooke, Emma should look and act The. Same. Only wardrobe change is she keeps the elaborate braided updo, maybe dresses a little more like Regina (power suits, stuff that's a little more fitted and elegant than her usual), but NOT BY MUCH. She should be smiling, chatting, acting like this is all very normal and fine, it's fine, I'm just the same guys, see? See?? I'm fine :) She is FORCEFUL in her insistence that everything is Totally Normal and this is all Fine. Hanging onto the belief that she can keep all her old connections by her fingernails. The leather jacket is ON, the beanies are ON, she is smiling so hard her face looks like it aches. The best Dark Swan scene was when she wore the cutesy pink dress and pony tail during her date with Hook; it should be exactly like that the whole time. Performative normalcy.

And then she very casually does super Dark One things, all while looking exactly like Emma should look. THAT'S how you do Dark Swan. She is CONVINCED that every action she takes is good and necessary and, you know what, if everyone else just UNDERSTOOD what she was trying to do, if they could just grasp the situation like she does, then they would go along with everything. She's right! She's right. She knows she's right. She acts with the same force of will and conviction that she had before, only all channeled towards Dark One plans.

Secret 3rd thing: instead of whatever weird little outfit he puffed into when he realized he was Dark One 2: Electric Boogaloo, Hook should poof into his Camelot coat. That thing was sick.

I might be a bit tipsy rn, but you cannot tell me that Killian Jones was not cursed twice in s5. Man got it rough. In a sense, he was cursed to become a Dark One, tied with a person he hated for centuries, plummeted back into the darkness he had grown out of. Then, he was cursed to forget he was the Dark One, forced against his will to remain a lovesick puppy of a boyfriend. Had his freedom sucked out of him for eternity in so many ways... I'd be feral for the darkness too if I were him. He slayed for 2 episodes and we deserved him reveling in more justice of spite.
