my talents are wasted on being a student I should be doing video essays
#I have so many thoughts. all the time. and scholarship won't take me seriously#I need to write an essay about mascot horror and particularly the resurgence post-fnaf about poppy playtime and amanda the adventurer#and how it's connected to a cultural consciousness of consumption and childhood nostalgia exploitation#and is a masterful subgenre of horror that is key to understanding the millenial and gen z experience#but no. I would be flogged if I did that#i also have many many video essays I want to do just on the terror#on the subgenre of horror comedy and the interplay between the two genres separately#(and how especially edgar allan poe is foundational to all of these because literally he was coming up with all this shit before anybody#else and it continues to amaze me how much the man's work is in conversation with the darkness of the american experiment that continues to#haunt the stories that we produce to this day) AND I AM!!!!!! SO MAD!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANNA DO THAT. LET ME DO THAT. AND PAY ME FOR IT#if I get good equipment as a graduation present it is all over for u hoes

Silk & Dagger: A Sensible Drow RPG
(thumbnail art by @chaospyromancy)
Drow: Intensely matriarchal, tunnel-dwelling, scantily-clad warriors obsessed with an evil spider goddess. Why would anyone with access to magic and resources live in tunnels and fight half-naked? Enter: Silk & Dagger: A Sensible Drow RPG.
These dark elves have a long and sordid history, but now they live in a network of tightly constraining social rules, entangling them like a useless servant in the webs of a domesticated spider. Every Drow is the matriarch of a household of servants, and together (and apart), they must navigate the edicts of the Spider Goddess and keep up the Reputation that keeps them safe against other Drow.
Asymmetric Gameplay
Silk & Dagger: A Sensible Drow RPG features two distinct player-character classes, and two distinct game master roles.
Players either take the role of a brutal mistress whom everything she says goes, whether she understands what she’s talking about or not, and whose position of dominance is maintained by the respect of her peers, respect that hinges on how brutal and controlling she is to her subordinates; or an array of pathetic servants who are helpless without their mistress’s “leadership,” (and maybe even be more so with it).
In addition to the standard game master role, the one who sets up the scenario and runs the NPCs, there is a secondary game master role, that of the Spider Goddess, representing the social scrutiny weighing down on every caste of this strict, ruthless society. Silk & Dagger encourages rotation of players in and out of these roles, rewarding them with points that can be spent to give their own PCs an edge next time they play a PC.
Satire and Deconstruction
Silk & Dagger: A Sensible Drow RPG takes many of the established trappings of “dark elves” and asks “what kind of society and environment would actually produce individuals like this?” This question is the springboard off which the satire launches, and lands uncomfortably close to home.
Comedy
Taking inspiration from games like Paranoia, Silk & Dagger: A Sensible Drow RPG presents a situation where survival often hinges on working together, but social pressures, class divides, and constant scrutiny encourage player-characters to do anything but, resulting in a sitcom-esque comedy-of-errors in a grimdark, lightless world.

Part three of what I’m calling Fake a Foe rn idk
“Robin, Report”
Robin did not want to report. This was mortifying. He and his team got away by the skin of their teeth and it felt like Batman knew that.
“…Our mission did not go as planned. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a communication breakdown.” Robin mumbled at his shoes before looking up to see if he B bought it.
Bruce squinted at the attempt to leave out information.
Who was he kidding? He probably already knew.
“We got our butts kicked and then we were saved by a batch of cookies.” Wally blurted as he tested evening out his weight on both feet.
“Wally!” Artemis was the one to protest this time.
Star piped up “It is the truth. Our butts were indeed defeated.”
“Super boy got knocked out! I’ve never seen that happen before!” Wally said after hissing at the pain of his still very much sprained ankle.
Kon got defensive. “Oh yeah? And whose fault was that? He said he was an ice mage, couldn’t find your ice resistant arrows?”
“Oh now everything’s my fault! I had him down the longest! You just made him mad with your little baby punch!”
Kaldur attempted to reign everyone in.
“We should not be fighting, we are a team. I also bear some responsibility, had I not provided him with ice perhaps we would have won.”
“Everybody stop!”
This was already embarrassing enough without the team squabbling in front of Batman.
“If anything it was my fault. This was a reconnaissance mission and I went in blind on my own without telling any of you. I was captured and unable to leave or notify you. I’m sure it left each of you on edge and off your game. I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
Everyone but Batman regarded Robin with visible surprise.
“Hit the showers and head home.”
Apparently Batman was satisfied with that display.
Great!
Maybe Dick will be able to avoid one of his famous bat-lectures.
“Robin.”
He cringed.
“We’ll talk later.”
Maybe not.
One more thing of pressing importance needed to be said though.
“Oh, and Batman?”
An eyebrow raise was his response.
“He had some kryptonite! It seemed pretty weak though. At that dose super boy should have still been unconscious. I got a sample and I’m gonna test it at the cave. I just wanted to let you know.”
Robin stood there as he rambled, forcing false confidence onto his face and stance.
“Good job procuring a sample. It’s important that we figure out what it is as soon as possible.”
Robin headed to the bat cave trying not to look too happy over the bit of praise.
A beat of silence hung in the air before the sound of echoing laughter.
“Oh you should have seen the look on poor Robbie’s face as I threw his teammate a second time! Comedy gold! Mind if I send the CCTV footage to my friends? They’d love this!” Danny turned visible and floated down to the other hero.
Bruce only stared.
Danny returned the favor for a moment before reaching into his torso and producing a cookie jar.
“Want one? It’s chocolate chip!”
More staring.
“Why do you have kryptonite?”
“Okay, suit yourself.” He grabbed a cookie and returned the jar. “It wasn’t kryptonite. Or at least not real kryptonite.”
Batman looked quizzically at him.
Danny took a a bow. “My own proprietary blend! Sinfully synthetic and perfectly potent enough to send supers to sleepy time junction!”
Batman kept staring.
Oh. Oh.
“Look man, I can send you the formula if you need. I promise I’m not gonna pull a switcheroo on you. You already vetted me with Wonder Woman’s lasso.” Danny said as he leaned on the console the hero was working at.
A little too much silence hung over the two as Batman pulled up the footage.
He watched as Batman reviewed the moment Wally tripped over Kon.
Maybe he went too far.
No. Wait. Was that half a smirk on the dark knight’s face?
“Did you have to throw him twice?” The slightest tinge of amusement bled through Batman’s tone.
Danny beamed, so he didn’t mess up after all! “Oh absolutely!”
The Bat’s expression was schooled, his tone was even once more.
“Let me know if Robin has cracked the formula.”
Looks like Danny was also a chemistry tutor now.
Oh well, better than being bored.

Supe Preference: Asking You Out
Requested: hi, idk if you write for the supes, but I will try request anyway :D how would the supes ( the boys series) ask a gn reader out? Ty - anon
A/N: I hope this is okay my love! I tried to stay true to character as much as possible, so I'm not sure how romantic some of them are. I tried writing for new Supes too, at least new for me, so apologies if it's not totally in character! Feedback is always appreciated! 💜💜💜
Homelander doesn't exactly ask you out. Rather, on live TV during an interview or event, he grabs your hand and proclaims that you're in love, that you're a couple. Whether or not you're into him, it still comes as a shock. Afterwards he'll ask you on a date where the public and paparazzi can see and take pictures. It's not as intimate as you'd like, but the date goes well. He takes you to an expensive restaurant where you've gotten rid of your suit for something classy and elegant, but he sticks with his regular attire. It's definitely not how you were expecting to be asked out or how you thought your relationship would progress. Ashley thinks it's great! You are both insanely powerful and, for selfish reasons, she wants Homelander off her back. She appreciates that you'll take some of the attention off her.
The Deep probably makes more than a few inappropriate, crude, raunchy jokes about and around you before he properly introduces himself. It's almost compulsive the way his jokes come out. He just can't help himself. He later apologizes and asks to start fresh. Would you want to go out on a date with him? When you say yes, he instantly tells you about all his ideas. You could go to the aquarium or to dinner or to the amusement park or coffee or whatever you want to do. You stick to coffee. It's pretty cute how excited he is. He wasn't expecting you to say yes, so he really didn't have it planned all the way through. He was expecting, like everyone else in his life, for you to call him stupid and move on without answering.
A-Train and you have been dating forever, but you haven't been out on a date in ages. He's still shy trying to ask you out even now. Of course you say yes, excited you'll get some time alone. You might have to reschedule once or twice because Homelander is on the rampage, but when you do get together, he takes you rollerskating. Despite how fast he is in sneakers, he's awful on wheels. He holds your hand the entire time and definitely drags you down when he falls. He stays pretty casual in his clothes and tries to keep his hood up, but it just falls down. You guys find a roller-rink in the middle of nowhere, so you're pretty safe in being discovered. You make fun of his clumsiness and check him for bruises when he falls, especially hard. He makes the same joke over and over: that he "fell" for you. You think he's an idiot, but this is by far one of your most favorite dates.
Queen Maeve asks you out over text. When you say yes, she shows up in her civilian clothes. She makes sure she isn't followed and that Homelander is distracted the entire day. She takes you to the movies. It's dark and secluded, but she knows you love movie theater popcorn specifically with all the butter and the blue raspberry slushies, and you picked the only movie not funded by or produced by Vought. It's a really terrible comedy, but you two can laugh at it anyway. Maeve even holds your hand during the movie which makes her heart beat out of her chest. Afterwards she makes you stay after to kiss you and tell you she had a really great time. It's the first time in forever where she's felt like a real person whose allowed to do real person things. She wants to get your read on it, but you're both excited for a second date.
Firecracker would ask you on a date to some fast food restaurant where you can get the best greasy food and the thickest milkshakes. She'll definitely be sported because she doesn't go incognito and ends up spending a few minutes at least taking pictures and videos for everyone who wants one. She apologizes for them, but secretly, she loves it. You don't mind. You knew what you were getting into when you said yes to the date. She tells you about her life growing up and her past with Starlight. You tell her about your own life and how you came to New York to follow your dreams. She tells you about joining The Seven and what she really thinks of Vought. It isn't the most magical date, but you're glad you said yes. It made you feel like a teenager again, getting food with your old crush, trying to play it cool when you're actually freaking out.
Soldier Boy doesn't really ask you out on a date. You two *get busy* in bed and afterwards he asks if you'd want to go to a bar. You say yes and find yourself at a local hole in the wall, a place that definitely doesn't see new faces. Most of the patrons are as old as Ben would be if he'd aged. He looks so familiar to them, but they can't figure out where he's from. An old friend? An old co-worker? Regardless, they don't pay attention to the two of you. You and Ben start trying to out drink one another and though his tolerance is astronomically higher than yours, you keep up enough to impress him. You two probably go back to bed and keep drinking, sharing stories about your lives between sweaty sheets and shared sips of whatever booze he has lying around. It's not too official, but you both kind of think of it as a date.
Bonus! Annie asks you to go bowling with her. Like in the show, she plays it off like she's not very good until you point it out to her. That's when she starts kicking your ass. She's really embarrassed and worried that you'll think she's showing off or just trying to make you feel bad, but you love it. You love her strength. You love her showing off and almost breaking the pins with the ball. You get really awful bowling alley food and beers, and it's a really fun night despite all the drama that comes with being Starlight. It's the first time in a long time she's felt normal and safe and excited to be here, excited to be herself. You're not shy about asking for a second date, though you know you're risking a lot by wanting to be with her. She makes that known before anything else.

How to achieve work life balance? Jensen is fortune that he really loves what he does, so it doesn’t feel like work. It‘s an artistic expression. He gets a lot of joy out of it. Only downside is not being in 2 places at once. Fam gives him so much joy 2. You always need more time, so make sure 2 be present (x)
Best gift? Jensen loves the photo albums he‘s gotten that collect his cons or jobs through the years. Lots of talented people in fandom. Takes him down memory lane in a beautiful way. (x)
Exec producing, one positive, one negative experience? Jensen: positive is the collaboration early on, the mission before the script, collaborating with other artists & creative minds. Downside: dealing with the studio & network, who also have opinions. (x) The most frustrated & the most vocal Jensen got during The Winchesters was them not signing Drake, but stringing him along forever & making him do chemistry reads for Mary without him having the role secured yet. (x)
The dumbest way Jensen has ever gotten injured (reprise from 14)? Hopped onto a wet, curved planter in the dark while waiting for a cab because he didn’t realize it was curved. Has a chin scar from that. cab driver didn’t take him bc of the blood, had to call an ambulance (x)

(lizzie2110)
Panel 2
Jensen explains that sometimes the stars of shows burn bright but flame out quickly, but there’s the journeymen who work continuously. They‘re the backbone of the industry. There should be a special oscar ceremony just for them. He likes to consider himself one, Rob is one (x)
Question about ad libbing. It was encouraged on Countdown and Jensen really got to play. The rest of the cast was ready. A big reward for him is when the crew laughs at one of his lines. (x)
He also got freedom on Tracker. Justin Hartley is one of the funniest people he knows. Elwood said „what I wrote is just a suggestion, go play“. Justin has to play straight on it, but understands Comedy so well. (x)
There‘s also a lot of things that Soldier Boy has said that weren’t scripted. He can’t tell us what because that would tell us too much about him. (x)
The different ways to explain masturbation in Gen V was suppose to be one line… it ended up a split of Jensen and Kripke as they tried to outdo each other (x)
It takes Jensen and 2 costume people to put on the Soldier Boy suit. He can’t sit down in it because of the breast plate. He‘s wearing compression pants and a compression shirt underneath it. (x)
Jensen didn’t have a lot of dialogue last week, Kripke was mostly there for other people and cameos. On Gen V he and Kripke workshopped together and the crew couldn’t decide so they kept three takes in cut together. (x)
Was Jensen a teacher‘s pet or a troublemaker? He asks what grade. 1st to 4th he talked too much & was rambunctious. When he got older & in high school he was the teacher‘s pet, "just because I worked the system" (x)

(KeepFrmDrowning)

It's Black History Month
(Over here in the US of A) So here are some podcasts to check out.
Absolutely no Adventures - a fantasy (un)adventure story that follows Sig, the owner of Signature Eats bakery, as he aggressively avoids becoming embroiled in any daring quests or chosen one shenanigans even though the universe really seems to want him to do just that. This is a story about cutting Joseph Campbells Hero’s Journey off at the knees to chill with friends and staying far, far away from the slightest whiff of adventure. And also baking. This is also a story about baking.
Afflicted - Lovecraft Country meets True Blood in this new series from award-winning producers Tonia Ransom and Jen Zink. In season one, a small East Texas town suffers supernatural disasters caused by a demonic book bound in human flesh…and only hoodoo can save the town from its affliction.
Apollyon - In the early 22nd century, the Apollyon virus wiped out 75% of the world’s population, and now most of the world is governed by the International Conglomerate of Research Scientists. Dr. Theo Ramsey is an ICRS research scientist who may have just discovered an effective vaccine for Apollyon, but the stakes to get the vaccine to the public are higher than she ever imagined.
Between Heartbeats - Tan immersive Urban Fantasy about the hurt, the powerful, and their growth within a broken world. We follow Sundiata, a guilt-ridden time manipulator with a knack for unemployment, and Nadia, a moralistic telepath determined not to lose control, as they balance frayed mental health against an unsympathetic police state. But when a malevolent presence rears is head, their neuroses become the least of their problems. Can our heroes make the most of their abilities before the option is taken from them?
Fan Wars: The Empire Claps Back - Two passionate Star Wars fans on opposite sides of the Last Jedi debate argue via Skype after their favorite forum closes down. If you love Star Wars (or call yourself a proud member of any fandom), you’ll love this romantic comedy told via

Lady Lucy - Lady Lucy is an audio drama inspired by Shakespeare's "Dark Lady" Sonnets, 127-154. another wave of swap doodles from another late night drawing sesh!
talking abt my new thoughts for the au also under the cut :))))))
so i've been thinking on the big catastrophic event. and i've landed on this:
i think the big catastrophic event is caused by the hat. the hat is never scooped up and adopted by wander during the big dispute the previous "owners" had, so it instead lands in the hands of jeff. jeff in the au is already a pretty normal, chill dude, with a band and a life. he's been friends with wander for a while, but during a lull where they don't see each other for a while, he gets ahold of the hat, and the possibilities overcome him. he Didn't Know how Good it feels to be Bad. and he's making up for lost time by tricking out his little ship with guns and thrusters and all sorts of evil stuff.
wander is taken into custody by sylvia, who is working for some organization like the men in black. she interrogates him, and realizes he doesn't know the first thing about what jeff has been up to in his absence, though she has pictures of them hanging out from years back.
they'd search for jeff, who announces himself as major threat when they finally catch up with him, and would attempt to produce some kind of enormous doomsday weapon from the hat. this would be like the last nail in the coffin for the hat, which was already within an inch of blowing up anyway, and it would explode and flatten the entire solar system and surrounding area, taking major threat with it.
sylvia and wander take shelter in a cave right before the blast hits, and when they come out, it's devastation all around. wander's been wrung out, now. his oldest friend is gone, and he feels to some degree responsible for the whole mess, even when sylvia assures him he isn't. they take a trip around and realize just how much damage the hat's explosion had done, and how far it stretches, and that's when wander starts to spiral. surely there's something he could've done to prevent it, and how dare he continue on when who knows how many wonderful people have just been vaporized in the midst of their "battle"(basically just yelling at major threat from a distance Not to Do It).
they come to rest on a planet that still has some firewood left, and sylvia goes off to gather it while wander takes shelter in another cave. A very damp cave, a dark cave, one that seems almost entirely untouched by time. and in the cave, there's one glowing orange mushroom.
anyway, that's about how long sylvia and wander know each other before the cult's inception. i think they only get to have a couple moments where they're just buds on a mission, and then it's all downhill. sylvia readily quits the men in black at some point between meeting wander and meeting major threat, but she retains the skills that made her such a good fit for it. and now, she doesn't have to wear those awful shoes that she hates.
honestly it's taken me so long to come up with something for it because, like i've said before, the wander over yonders are just kind of. backstory-less, largely. we get just enough backstory to want to know more, like with major threat and wander One Thousand Years Ago Exactly and sylvia's past as a bounty hunter, but. like. not much more than that.
and a lot of that has to do with the programming slot this show was given and how little time it actually spent on the air, like a lot of things, but also, y'know. tone. the show is aaaaaalmost a pure comedy, which i love it for, and the bits of tragedy and lore are almost always undercut with n jokes per minute. which!! again!!11! i like! i think it's fun and i like to be happy and have fun. and it also makes those moments of Ohhhh Ouchie my Feelings hit that much harder to have them entirely surrounded by peace love and funny joke.
so anyway. i kinda fear this backstory is just a little too #serious and makes too little #sense to me, but it's the closest i've come to something that makes sense for how wander turned out in the au. Shrugs. We shall see.
and all of this is from a little blurb i wrote for fun so like Please Dont Think This Is The Final Decision please. ill probably change All of this in some way or another bc i fear this gives sylvia very little time to be happy and i want her. to be happy. at some point. i need her to be happy more.
#myart#rambling#swap au#swap wander#sister sylvia#mr meteor#sir peepers#swap dominator#swap jeff#me when i cant think of something to do with my story : what if it were animorphs or men in black#im a simple guy i like my aliens goofy and also just a little too hashtag serious

Kathryn hahn x female reader
The "Hot Ones" set was bustling with quiet excitement, a controlled chaos typical of pre-show preparation. Camera crew checked equipment, producers murmured among themselves, and a makeup artist made last-minute adjustments on Kathryn Hahn. Y/N sat across from her, observing the scene with a familiar calm. They had just finished working on a movie together, and now here they were, about to test their spice tolerance while answering questions that would dig deep into their lives and careers.
“Ready for this?” Kathryn asked, her wide grin flashing toward Y/N as she adjusted the lapel of her shirt.
Y/N smirked. “Born ready.” At 23, Y/N had already made a name for herself in horror, playing twisted killers that haunted the nightmares of many, but her recent turn as Knightmare in the Marvel universe was opening new doors. Her character, the daughter of the Seven Deadly Sins, was dark, complex, and thrilling to portray—just the kind of role Y/N loved.
Kathryn, on the other hand, was an actress with a range as wide as her laugh. The two had worked together on a thriller, a gritty, emotionally charged film, and the chemistry between them on screen had been palpable. Off-screen, that chemistry had turned into a solid friendship. And now, under the glow of studio lights, about to dive into an increasingly spicy array of wings, that camaraderie was about to be tested.
The host, Sean Evans, strolled in with his signature warm smile, taking a seat across from the two actresses. “You ready for this?” he asked, echoing Kathryn’s earlier question.
Kathryn gave a mock-terrified look, glancing at Y/N. “I thought I was until I remembered how much Y/N enjoys hot sauce.”
Y/N chuckled, her deep voice soft but edged with amusement. “I have a pretty high spice tolerance, so you’re in trouble, Hahn.”
Sean laughed. “We’ll see about that. Kathryn, Y/N, welcome to Hot Ones—the show with hot questions and even hotter wings. Let’s get started.”
The first wing was harmless, a simple kick of flavor without too much heat. They both handled it with ease, bantering back and forth about their experiences filming the movie. Sean jumped in with his first question for Y/N.
“Y/N, you’ve been known to dominate in the horror genre, playing some truly terrifying killers. What’s it like to play someone so evil, especially being so young?”
Y/N wiped her fingers with a napkin, thinking about her answer. “You know, it’s funny because I don’t think of them as evil when I’m playing them. I try to understand what makes them tick, why they do what they do. It’s more about understanding the character’s pain or trauma that leads them to those dark places. I’ve always been fascinated by the psychology of horror.” She glanced at Kathryn, who nodded in agreement. “And honestly, it’s pretty fun to play the bad guy. You get to let out all that chaos you’d never allow in real life.”
Sean nodded, intrigued. “And how does that translate into playing Knightmare in Marvel? She’s still dark, but she’s got that anti-hero edge.”
“Oh, definitely,” Y/N replied, leaning back in her chair. “Knightmare is all about redemption, but she’s also struggling with her nature. She’s the daughter of the Seven Deadly Sins, so she’s constantly fighting against her darker impulses. There’s something relatable about that—fighting your inner demons, you know?”
Kathryn cut in, laughing. “It’s wild because Y/N, in real life, is the least threatening person ever. You wouldn’t guess she plays these intense, terrifying characters by the way she’s so laid-back.”
Y/N gave her a playful nudge. “What can I say? I’m full of surprises.”
They moved on to the next wing, which had a noticeable increase in heat. Kathryn started to feel the burn, her eyes widening slightly, while Y/N stayed cool, eating the wing like it was nothing.
“Okay, Kathryn, this one’s for you,” Sean said, holding back a laugh at her reaction to the spice. “You’ve had such a versatile career, from comedy to drama, and now this thriller with Y/N. What’s it been like switching between genres?”
Kathryn blew out a breath, fanning her face. “Whew, that’s hot. Uh, yeah, it’s been a wild ride. I love that I get to explore so many different kinds of roles. Comedy will always be my first love, but I also love getting into the grittier stuff, like our movie. There’s something so cathartic about diving into those deeper emotions.”
She turned to Y/N, her eyes bright. “Working with Y/N was a dream. She’s got this quiet intensity on set, and it just pulls you in. You can’t help but feed off of it.”
Y/N chuckled, shaking her head. “You make me sound like some brooding method actor.”
Kathryn raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you?”
Y/N grinned. “Maybe a little.”
The third wing brought the heat up a notch, and while Kathryn squirmed in her seat, Y/N remained as calm as ever. The difference between their reactions was obvious, and it made the dynamic all the more entertaining for Sean and the audience.
“You’re not even breaking a sweat, Y/N,” Sean said, half amazed. “What’s your secret?”
Y/N shrugged casually. “I just like spicy food. Grew up eating it. Plus, after playing a serial killer in all these horror movies, I guess my pain threshold’s pretty high.”
Kathryn laughed through the heat building in her mouth. “You say that so casually, like, ‘Oh, just another day at the office, murdering people and eating fire.’”
Y/N gave her a sly smile. “Pretty much.”
The fourth wing hit hard, a noticeable jump in spice, and Kathryn visibly winced, reaching for her water. Y/N, however, still appeared unfazed, though she did take a sip of her water just to stay hydrated.
“You’ve worked on some pretty intense scenes together in your latest movie,” Sean said, wiping his own brow. “Was there a moment during filming where the tension on set was almost too real?”
Kathryn let out a deep breath, eyes still wide from the spice. “Oh, man, there was this one scene where Y/N’s character is supposed to be chasing mine down this dark alley. It was late at night, cold, and Y/N is just in full killer mode. She’s got this look in her eyes, and even though I know it’s all acting, for a split second, I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to die.’”
Y/N laughed softly. “I do remember that. You gave me this look after we cut, like, ‘Please don’t ever look at me like that again.’”
Kathryn nodded emphatically. “Exactly! You scared the hell out of me, but it made the scene so much better. That’s what I love about working with you. You’re so committed, and you push everyone around you to be better.”
Y/N glanced down, almost shy for a moment, her masculine energy softening under Kathryn’s praise. “I just want to make sure we all bring our best, you know?”
They reached the fifth wing, and by now, Kathryn was struggling. Her face was flushed, and she took frequent sips of milk between bites, while Y/N continued to soldier on, a subtle sheen of sweat on her brow the only sign that the heat was affecting her at all.
Sean jumped in with another question, this time focusing on their personal dynamics. “You two clearly have great chemistry, both on screen and off. Was there a moment when you realized you clicked as friends?”
Kathryn looked at Y/N, a smile curving her lips despite the heat. “I think it was during one of our rehearsal breaks. We were both exhausted, and Y/N just pulls out this deck of cards and starts doing magic tricks. I lost it. I didn’t expect that from her at all.”
Y/N chuckled. “Yeah, I was just trying to lighten the mood. Rehearsals can get intense, and I figured a little distraction wouldn’t hurt.”
Sean raised an eyebrow. “Magic tricks? Really?”
Y/N nodded. “It’s just a hobby, something I picked up when I was younger. Helps with the hand-eye coordination too, which is useful when you’re playing someone who’s good with knives.”
Kathryn shook her head, laughing. “See what I mean? Full of surprises.”
The sixth wing, known as "Da Bomb," was infamous for its brutal heat. Kathryn braced herself, biting into it hesitantly, and immediately regretted it. Her face contorted in agony as she reached for her milk, gasping slightly.
“Oh my God,” she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. “This is insane.”
Y/N took a bite, her expression neutral for a moment before she nodded slowly. “Okay, yeah, this one’s got some kick.”
Sean, looking slightly devilish, leaned in. “Y/N, you’ve got a high spice tolerance, but even you seem to be feeling this one. Has anything ever rattled you on set the way this wing is?”
Y/N considered the question, her voice steady despite the heat. “Honestly, the only time I get rattled is when the stakes are high for the scene, like an emotional climax. I can handle gore and action all day, but the scenes where you have to really tap into something vulnerable—that’s the
stuff that gets me.”
Kathryn, tears in her eyes from the heat, managed to nod. “Yeah, those are the hardest. You get so wrapped up in it, it’s like you’re baring a part of yourself.”
Y/N reached over, patting Kathryn on the shoulder. “You’re doing great, Hahn. Almost there.”
They finally reached the last wing, the infamous "Last Dab." Kathryn looked at it with dread, while Y/N calmly added an extra dab of sauce to hers, a cocky smile playing on her lips.
“You’re insane,” Kathryn muttered, though her voice held admiration.
Y/N winked. “Gotta go out with a bang, right?”
They both took their bites, and Kathryn immediately regretted it, her face turning red as she reached for more water and milk, anything to dull the fire. Y/N winced slightly, but powered through, still in control.
Sean laughed, amazed. “Y/N, you’ve officially survived the hot seat! Kathryn, you too—barely.”
Kathryn, still recovering, gave a shaky thumbs-up. “I don’t know how I’m still alive, but I made it!”
As the interview wrapped, Y/N leaned back in her chair, her calm demeanor intact, while Kathryn fanned herself, still feeling the burn. Despite the spice, the bond between them was undeniable, strengthened by their shared experience on set and in life. And as they exited the stage, laughing and teasing each other, it was clear that their friendship—like their careers—was built to last.

Writing Notes: Dark Humor
Dark Comedy - (or black comedy) a genre of film, television, and literature that brings satire and dark humor to subjects that are depressing, frightening, unpleasant, or taboo.
The best dark comedies simultaneously entertain and expose corners of the human condition that make the audience uncomfortable.
Films in this subgenre of comedy create catharsis by heightening the absurdity and irony of painful subjects, imbuing them
Tips for Writing a Dark Comedy
If you’re writing a dark comedy script, there are several screenwriting tips that will help you transform your dark sense of humor into a great dark comedy.
Start from the truth. A great dark comedy approaches its subject matter with truthfulness, and the best comedy offers absurdity based in reality. No matter how uncomfortable your subject, emotional honesty is necessary if you want the story to resonate.
Build three-dimensional characters. Many writers populate comedic films with two-dimensional characters who exhibit funny quirks but rarely experience growth or change. That works for farces and slapstick, but given how bleak dark comedies can be, it helps to have three-dimensional characters who tackle serious subjects in human ways. Of course, you can still write these characters into situations rife with black humor.
Push boundaries. Even if you're committed to grounding your story in truth, you can still push boundaries into the plausibly ridiculous. Sinister subjects and gallows humor make for a memorable genre film, and you can write dark comedy within the realms of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror and still maintain a sense of authenticity.
Know your ending. Even the funniest comedy writers need space to brainstorm comedies with serious topics and dark subjects. Even as you explore plot twists, make sure you always know where the story is going. If you stack a dozen dark humor jokes on top of each other, you might write yourself into a corner with no satisfying way to reach a conclusion. So make sure you have a plan. Indulge in funny ideas as they come to you, but leave yourself a way to bring all the funny threads to an organic resolution.
Examples of Classic Dark Comedy
Hollywood has produced a wealth of dark comedies, the highlights of which include:
Dr. Strangelove (1964): This dark satire from director Stanley Kubrick skewers the arms race at the heart of the Cold War. Though the subject matter (impending nuclear annihilation) couldn’t be more serious, the tone of the film is characterized by slapstick and silliness.
Fargo (1996): Perhaps the most celebrated of Joel and Ethan Coen’s many films, Fargo is a sometimes hilarious, sometimes very dark tale of a kidnapping gone wrong. The Coen brothers handle unsettling subject matter in this film with a level of understatement that, at times, is jarringly funny.
Pulp Fiction (1994): Like the best dark comedy movies, this genre-bending Quentin Tarantino film deals with touchy subjects like drug use and violence yet maintains an upbeat energy that keeps it from ever getting too bleak.
M*A*S*H (1970): Robert Altman’s comedy later inspired a TV sitcom. Set in a military barracks during the Korean War, the film debuted in 1970 at the height of the Vietnam War and touched on the absurdity of war in a time when Americans were actively being conscripted into military service.
Harold and Maude (1971): On the one hand, director Hal Ashby’s Harold and Maude is an unlikely and odd tale of an intergenerational romance. On the other hand, it's a stark meditation on death. As a dark comedy, it succeeds in both its aims.

A Minecraft Movie (movie)
The most shocking moment of this movie was during the opening credits, when it was revealed that Jason Momoa produced the film. It makes sense, then, why he gets top billing, even though Jack Black is the obvious lead actor of the film both in terms of narrative importance and screen time. The idea that this film of all films could be an actor's self-produced star project is baffling beyond belief, a suggestion that few people in Hollywood have even the faintest clue what they're doing. This film was in production hell for 12 years, bouncing between directors and actors and never going anywhere until Momoa was attached. Why? Guys, it's Minecraft. This movie was always guaranteed to gross close to, if not more than, 1 billion dollars, no matter who was on it, no matter how good it was, no matter what it looked like. The film on display is proof of that. So what was the holdup? Why was this not fast-tracked from the getgo? Why did it take a frankly random B-list actor to actually get this out the door?
Hollywood has always had a sneering relationship with video games, and to this day we still haven't gotten an actually good video game movie. It's bizarre that the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film, adapting one of the most popular and recognizable characters in the entire world, is not even evocative of its source material on a basic tonal or narrative level. It's bizarre that in the early to mid 00s there were about 12 video game movies made and they were all shitty horror movies adapting games of middling to severe obscurity. (Why is there an Alone in the Dark movie, and not a Halo movie?) 2002's Resident Evil even made money -- quite a lot of money -- and yet it still took two more decades for Hollywood to really understand the bankability of this medium and its properties. It wasn't really until Sonic the Hedgehog was an accidental mega-hit that it happened, and it's phenomenal to see how that trilogy evolves, its first film being a generic "Me and My Alien" Hollywood stock plot with Sonic half-heartedly draped on top of it (look at the original Sonic design for that film!) and only after becoming a proven success daring to earnestly engage with the source material narratively.
This can all partly be blamed on Nintendo, which after that aforementioned 1993 Mario debacle became traditionally Nintendo regarding this newfangled "movie" thing. Nintendo as a company only ever seems to make money on accident, and is sometimes allergic to the process; Detective Pikachu, their first tentative stab back into the medium, does perhaps everything in its power to turn the most money-generating franchise in the world into a flop. Why did they specifically adapt Detective Pikachu, a bizarre spinoff game nobody played? It's like if the Illumination Mario movie was based primarily on Mario Teaches Typing.
Well, I say that, but in many ways this movie (Minecraft, the movie I'm ostensibly reviewing) is like Minecraft Teaches Typing. The film is at turns nauseatingly conventional and bafflingly bizarre, emphasized by its two primary film influences being Lord of the Rings and Napoleon Dynamite. There is a strong 80s nostalgia bent to the film, despite Minecraft not being from the 80s and its target demo being younger than 9/11. Jason Momoa, actor-producer, seems to also not care at all about Minecraft, and just wants to do a story where he plays Billy Mitchell; he and Jack Black are also having an absurd amount of fun doing this, without much caring if anyone watching is having fun too, in a way that is strongly reminiscent of a fodder comedy offering like Year One or Your Highness. At least Jack Black says Chicken Jockey and turns into Herobrine for 1 second, so somebody somewhere had a finger on the pulse of The Kids. It's a testament to how little effort you actually have to do for these films, which only makes it more confusing why it took this long for anyone to do it.
After Sonic, Mario, FNAF, and now this, I imagine the floodgates are open. The MCU is out, video game movies are in; and with 40 years of cinema ignoring the medium, there's a lot of gold to mine before interest craps out.
