A pocket of hollows and caverns kept Tej busy most of a day. Tej avoided wandering too deep or for too long. However, each one only spiked the curiosity to explore the next. As he explored, time slipped away. The sun began to sink towards the sea. One more, he thought.

He snapped on a flashlight. Inside, the next cave led him down a short tunnel tall enough to walk upright through, before it hit a center. At which point, several spokes of corridors broke off. A light bounced around down one of them. "Who's there?" he called out.

A recognizable face appeared in the spotlight of his torch. The light tipped to the ground between them and out of her eyes. "I see we had the same idea. Sun's going down out there, though." Did she even realize? How long and how far had she gone in the cave?

Before all that, Tej wanted to know something else. "Hey. What happened to the girl you risked your life to rescue? Back on the ship."

Going from hatred to tolerance was such an odd feeling, especially when it came to Darcy — but the way her feelings had changed over the course of mere days was something she'd be analyzing for weeks to come. Even now, as they sit together in his drawing room, she finds herself content in his company.

What a peculiar statement. Perhaps he feels emboldened by what they'd gone through together in the past, a particular proposal coming into to mind as Elizabeth carefully decides what to say in response. Perhaps she wouldn't be so careful were she not in his rather impressive estate. “ You say that as though you're not so very agreeable, sir. ” She gives him a smirk, hands clasped in her lap. “ Perhaps you just haven't met the right person. ” Elizabeth adds, and she feels an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach. Surely, that person is not her — right? “ You don't strike me as the type of person who gives up so easily, Mister Darcy, even in something so silly as love. ”

But no, you had to have the full Christmas shopping experience," Wanda teased, though her lips quirked into a small smile. “So, what’s the plan here? location :  edge of the faerie realm / the barrier to new york .

LACK OF SLEEP ,  paranoia ,  and annoyance do not a great combination make .  the flimsy barrier between the fae realm and the city is  ...  not worrying her per se ,  but darcy has gone to examine the wards more than once .  it’s almost become a ritual in the last few weeks ;  and while she’s at it ,  she’s started to venture to the other side a few times as well .  they’re short trips ,  usually under glamour ,  but since she’s been fine so far and hasn’t noticed anything  off ,  she’s reasonably sure no one knows she’s there .  ( no matter how much her dreams tell her otherwise . )  it makes her more confident in her presence in the mundane realm ,  and she intends to expand her research there ,  as much as she can .  or rather ,  if she  could ,  because apparently the columbia’s library is  invitation only .  ugh .  the librarian’s words ring in her ears :  “ ma’am ,  we can sign you in no problem with a valid  id — ”  and she huffs ,  getting riled up all over again ,  but suppresses further exclamations to go through her contacts instead .  leo would ask what’s wrong with her id ,  and she can’t really tell him  why  she refuses to go on record anywhere ,  can she now ?  ( she probably should .  fuck . )  astra wouldn’t ask ,  but she’d know  something ,  in her infinite wisdom ,  and she’d  worry ,  and that’s almost worse . darcy could call in a favor with julie ,  probably ,  but  —  hmm .  the next name on the list makes her reconsider .  kaelie  did  say she could call if she ever needed help of the  ‘ dealing with douches ’  variety ,  and ,  well .  in darcy’s opinion ,  gatekeeping , snooping academics certainly qualified .  so ,   after just a moment’s hesitation ,  she taps kaelie’s name on her phone .  when the call is picked up ,  the witch opens simply with :  “ hey ,  out of curiosity ,  what’s you stance on breaking and entering ? ”

There was something so natural and fun about making up stories about her life to strangers. Who did it hurt for her to play around with a fantasy life she created in the blink of an eye? It kept peoples attention at least, got them asking questions, and it meant she got to have moments like this where she could say anything she wanted without suspicion following.

"We were throwing a party. just me and my girlfriends on one of my families yachts. I do remember going to lay down and rest for a bit... hm, yeah that's about it." She tried to look as though she was thinking trying hard to remember more but couldn't, followed by a wide eyed look as though a horrifying realization dawned on her "Oh no... my friends must be so worried! Probably thinking I drunkenly fell overboard of something."

Of course, there wasn't really anyone back home to miss her. Maybe her parents but anyone else might just assume she was ghosting. But really what did she care what employers and horny strangers on the internet thought of her sudden radio silence?

What she did care about was the story Darcy weaved about what they were doing here. Making this sound like some sci-fi adventure. She wasn't sure if she immediately believed this claim of belief, but if she played along she might get to know more. "Really? So we all agreed to some kind of experiment and got swept away to this random island? I guess...yeah I can get behind that. Having our memory wiped of any agreements, and powers too?! What kind of powers? What are these tests? How do you know all this? Are you in charge? I won't tell anyone if you are."

If Darcy didn't know any better, she would have assumed this woman has already spent at least some time here, on this beach, and not literally just arrived. Was it possible that she misunderstood something? But no, the way she was talking about waking up here, it must have happened just recently, in the last hour or so. Maybe two.

(Has anyone has ever seen any of the new people actually arrive? It was something Darcy would have to look into, ask around. It couldn't have been just the people appearing out of thin air, but however it all happened, the fact that nobody saw any new person being placed by other people was curious.)

"So you were on a ship - do you remember what you were doing last? Or did you just fall asleep and then woke up here?" There were plenty of different last memories (blood, hospital, her eyes, but no, Darcy was not thinking about any of that), and yet Crystal was the chillest person, whatever she remembered from her last moments, Darcy loved it.

She looked around, almost expecting somebody to jump out and take over the conversation, but nobody actually was there, and after a moment's hesitation Darcy stepped closer to the woman and sat down into the shallow water, letting the waves lap at her side. "Okay, if you really want to know, I think we all signed up for this. I think-- no, actually, I know we all agreed to do this, we just don't remember cause it's part of the experiment. We gotta learn to adapt, learn how to use special powers we get - which is also a thing here, believe it or not, you'll find out eventually what yours is, too -, and we gotta pass through some tests. I am certain of it."

Though Chance has done ample pondering of his own. These secrets seem to have everyone riled up. Some people irritated by the things they'd received and read... So surely some people were harbouring a few cold sweats about their own deepest and darkest being revealed.

Chance had more than a few proverbial (and possibly literal) skeletons in his closet, so what might have been revealed about him was really anyones guess. But he's not sweating the trivial stuff right now. Nope - he's far more interested and invested in everyone elses reactions to them. It's a good distraction. It's a good way to get the people here to turn on each other. To sow seeds of dissent in the ranks...

The case of the Blue- and Gold- sequin party people (Heartstopper S1E3)

When I first watched S1E3 ('Kiss'), I thought it was cute that there was a seemingly same-sex couple holding hands and wearing blue and yellow sequined bomber jackets (or teal and gold, more technically) in front of Charlie when he's queuing to go into Harry's party.

Later I noticed 'Blue' and 'Gold' - as I'll refer to them for the purposes of this post - popping up throughout the party and wondered if there was a pattern. Upon further examination, there certainly seems to be..

Here's a list of where we see them, every time (that I noticed) that one or both of them are visible, with timestamps and screenshots.

[5:14-5:30] As mentioned, we first see Gold and Blue holding hands whilst queuing in front of Charlie outside of Harry's party venue.

[6:20-6:21] Blue is then briefly seen dancing while Charlie makes his way across the dance floor looking for Nick.

[6:34-6:38] When Charlie and Nick meet in the middle of the dance floor ("I've been looking for you!"), Gold and Blue slip directly into frame behind them: Gold behind Charlie, Blue behind Nick. (Side note: All 4 are also lined up in front of the spotlight the way that Tara and Darcy are later when they kiss, and there are many precious rainbow lens flares going on between them)

[8:39-11:36, non-inclusive] Blue is intermittently visible sitting on the left throughout Nick's conversation with Tara and then his clash with Harry.

[11:38-11:40] When Nick walks away to find Charlie after calling Harry out on saying something homophobic, Gold is seen seated next to Blue in the wider/zoomed out shot of Harry and the lads.

[14:38-14:39] When making his way across the dance floor looking for Charlie, Nick walks right past Blue.

[14:40] A moment later, from a glimpse of Gold's sleeve on the right, we can tell Nick has walked between Blue and Gold.

[14:46-14:47] And then we get a clearer close-up shot of Blue and Gold dancing together while Nick makes his way past them and farther into the room. Except for parts of Darcy and Tara's dancing/kissing, this is the only shot during this sequence (of Nick looking for Charlie on the dance floor) that picks out people in the crowd and/or is from Nick's POV.

[15:46-15:51] Blue and Gold are dancing behind Darcy and Tara right before their kiss.

[15:54-16:12 (+ 16:27-16:36)] And then especially Blue is visible most of the time Darcy and Tara are kissing.

[16:13-16:15] Gold and Blue are also there in the first view of Nick after he sees Darcy and Tara kiss, with Blue much more visible.

[16:47-16:50] Gold is briefly visible when Nick finally spots Charlie sitting on a(nother) couch.

[17:59-18:02] Nick and Charlie then go past Gold and Blue (who is now visible too) on their way to "somewhere quieter again".

Bonus: As perhaps a callback to the above, in S2E8 ('Perfect'), two of James's friends are wearing sequin gold and dark blue dresses, respectively, at the year 11 prom and dancing next to each other.

I hope you enjoyed this thorough dive into Blue and Gold's presence at Harry's party. I'm sure that there's potential for more nuanced interpretations, but on the relatively straightforward level, I appreciated what seemed to be a (surely) purposeful use of Blue and Gold during these scenes to show support for Nick and Charlie, indicate that their self-growth is progressing and provide reassurance that their romantic interest/relationship will prevail

Seeing the pit in person, having the hard confirmation that what she saw was real and it wasn't a made up illusion or something her brain made up while she was unconscious. This was real, someone was dead in that pit and if it hadn't been Tim and the rest who chose to make their way into the wilderness to investigate, Selin knew that any one of them could have been the one down there.

She was grateful that they were getting out, that Darcy wasn't pushing to have a better look at the scene and wasn't forcing Selin to face it either. Now wasn't the time. Beema was the priority right now, but also Selin's sanity and composure were also on the brink. Maybe getting to the beach where the coverage of the trees wasn't so ominous and suffocating would bring her some relief before getting more hands on deck to find Beema, hopefully safely.

But as the two of them started to find their way back out to the beach, there was the sound of a twig snapping somewhere behind them. In the tense atmosphere, it made Selin jump. Just because it wasn't the whirring buzzing of the hornets, there was still a chance of the sound being some other huge creature that could hurt them, she saw that tiger/dog beast one of the hornets fought and killed. Luckily, when she turned to the source of the noise, it was in fact just a little critter, some sort of squirrel and chipmunk hybrid jumping and scurrying along, making Selin let out a sigh of relief.

"Ok, there's no need to worry, it was nothing." she started saying to Darcy. Only when she turned back to face the other woman, she was nowhere to be found. "Uh…Darcy?" she called out, raising her voice a little, but not too much to draw too much attention. Did she keep walking off without her? Surely she would have heard moving. Surely Darcy wouldn't have just walked off without a word.

But Selin was all alone now and that was the opposite of what she wanted to be. Bouncing on her feet in a panic, she called out Darcy's name a couple more times before giving up. Wherever Darcy was, she was gone, hopefully out on the beach but Selin didn't have the willpower at that moment to go deeper into the wilderness. So instead she made a break for it, running towards the beach to get more help for Beema and now Darcy too.

Tim was down there. That was what Selin saw and they found the place where it all happened. Darcy wondered if they could possibly find the place where the vision she saw took place and then quickly pushed the thought aside. She did not want to go out looking for dead bodies.

"Yeah, that... that feels like a great idea," she agreed quietly, her eyes never leaving the place where the ground dropped. They knew what was down there, they really should not look. But part of her wondered-- could Beema be down there? Could she have come to the same fate as Tim? Could they be walking away from the person they've been looking for?

But if Beema was here, they would have most likely heard. There was no way Beema would be just sitting down, silent, not making a peep, hoping somebody finds her. She would be asking for help, calling out, if not constant, once she heard somebody being near, she absolutely would have. So there was just no way Beema could be down there.

"Yeah, let's see if we can find some pathway or something leading away from this. Not sure if Beema was here or not too, but if she was, it could be a way to finding her," Darcy suggested, looking around - but even as she started looking for it, she gently stepped between Selin and the pit so the woman wouldn't feel the need to keep looking at it and moving away from the place too.

So the plan would be to get out, keep looking for Beema. See how much ground they could cover. They found where Tim was, so they couldn't be that off track, right? The plans changed pretty quickly, though.

Darcy wasn't really sure where the noise came from - probably some smaller animal in the underbrush, stepping onto a twig, nothing more - but when a snapping noise near them came, it surprised her so hard, she could feel the darkness somewhere scream for her to get away, to follow it and get out and even though she didn't intend to leave Selin behind, her power reacted and followed that call, stepping in between one shadow of the trees they were under, to the shadows of another part of the forest.

A moment's pause as she looked around, letting the reality of what happened sink in and then, "Fuck."
