I received an advanced reader copy of Pretty Little Wife from HarperCollins Publishers via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane is a story about deceit and righting wrongs. Lila Ridgefield’s husband, Aaron, a beloved high school teacher is missing. Lila knows where she left the body, but it’s no longer there. As the police investigate, they’ll have a hard time finding people that don’t love Aaron and an even harder time finding people that like Lila. As the secrets in Lila’s marriage are exposed, she will have to stay one step ahead of the investigation until Aaron is found. This was an excellent cat and mouse story filled with intrigue and characters with their own agendas. Pretty Little Wife is available today, December 29, 2020. I'm sure like most of you, I can name a few favorite authors. It's so hard to choose just one! One of my all time faves is Jay Kristoff, but his name ALWAYS gets dropped, so today I want to focus more on some lesser known/new(to me) authors that have become some of my faves.

Darby Kane dropped her debut title in December of last year and quickly became an auto buy author for me! Just the way she writes and twists plots was so fantastic. Kane has a new book coming out this coming December called The Replacement Wife that I just can't wait to get my hands on! 👀 @williammorrowbooks I wouldn't object to getting my hands on it early 🙈

Another (new to me) author I have come to love is Rachel Hawkins. Her book The Wife Upstairs was so good! Again, like Kane I love the writing and twisty tale. I've been super lucky to get an egalley of Hawkins next book from @netgalley and @stmartinspress called Reckless Girls which comes out in January of next year.

The Replacement Wife is the 2nd novel from Darby Kane. "Elisa Wright thinks her brother-in-law, Josh, is a killer. His first wife died from an "accident" and now his fiance, Abby, is missing. He's moved on too quickly in Elisa's mind and no one seems to care about her friend, Abby. Her concerns are ignored by her own husband. Elisa becomes friends with Josh's new girlfriend and starts to wonder if a horrible incident is pushing her over the edge. The race is on to discover the truth before any other women die." The tension starts early in this book and never lets up. Kane keeps revelaing things about Josh and makes you question Elisa'a sanity and paranoia. You will probably guess some part of what's going on but until the reveal you won't be sure. The dynamics between the brothers were interesting. Harris is a big enabler and Josh takes advantage. You will not like Josh at all - you will probably yell at him a lot. The ending was unexpected. I like when an author chooses not to tie everything up in a nice neat bow. Add this to your list of 2022 thrillers. Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane was a November 2020 pick from @bookofthemonth “Lila gets a call that her husband, Aaron, is missing. She thinks that’s odd, since she was the last one to see his body...” Lila finds out Aaron has been bad and decides to do something about it. But she doesn’t really know the extent of how bad he’s been. Or who he’s working with. Kane keeps the tension up and the reader guessing here. You can guess who took the body but it’s just a guess. The reveal is not a big surprise but more of a “Oh - that’s who it was 🤔” Kane makes you sympathize with a woman who killed her husband while she was having an affair. And Aaron is the despicable character everyone will hate. This book has the format of back and forth between the present and the back story. Kane does a nice job keeping the reader hooked. A couple of comments on the audiobook. I usually speed them up to 1.25. Not to rush through it but I can read faster than I can listen 🤷🏼‍♂️ But this is one where anything faster than normal speed was mush. I listened to this doozy of a Thriller this week, and it had SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS! PRETTY LITTLE WIFE held so many surprises and kept me guessing until the end. I loved every moment of this fast paced read and will be picking up whatever the author has coming for readers next! The narrator did a fantastic job with Lila’s character capturing her indifference perfectly!
