What's on your tbr for this month or the rest of the year?
This book is a Contemporary Fantasy retelling of Sleeping Beauty. And it's fun as hell!
I had so much fun with this one. A sick, dying girl gets pulled into another dimension where she teams up with none other than Sleeping Beauty to rewrite their stories.
Full of badass characters (lgbtq included) proving you don't need a prince to have a happily ever after, and sometimes a "curse" is a blessing in disguise.
I truly enjoyed every moment of this one.

Also, there is a badass pre-order Pin available, but you've got to be quick, it ends in just 3 days! (Next slide for a sneak peak)

Who's your favorite fairytale character and why? Or just let me know what you're currently reading.
Thank you so much to @torteen for sending me a finished copy if this book! Not only is the cover stunning, but the story as well.
Sorry I haven't been around as much lately. It's been a crazy past week for me! I had some family stuff going on and was working a ton, so I wasn't able to be on as much as I would have liked. But I'm back at it and here with another... #biblioautopsy
🖋 𝙲𝚘𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚛 𝚁𝚎𝚙𝚘𝚛𝚝 - Let me tell you, it is one hell for a ride!
The characters are so dynamic and I really like the in depth look at each of the MC's stories. Its like 3 mains story lines that all merge into one. I loved following each character and getting bits of each story as we figured out what really happened with each of them.
Cee was such a great character to follow and it was interesting to watch the struggles with her mental health and her religion. With past traumas and the crazy relationship she had with her priest, it's no wonder she was second guessing her own thoughts and decisions.
The priests story was so crazy! I don't want to give too much away on his part, but the depth to which he would manipulate people was intense. As the story progresses, you really get to see his inner demons.
As for the main Detective and where a lot of this whole thing started, wow... I didn't see that coming, but it made so much sense to the story.
The Mad Girl is one of those books that has so much in depth detail but it adds to the story and doesn't overtake it. The way Colvin weaves his webs, telling such complex stories while keeping you wanting more is quite a gift.
𝙳𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑 𝙲𝚎𝚛𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚎 - 🔪🔪🔪🔪
This photo is a little different from my normal, but I felt that all the background stories and details with the one main focus of the Cee (the cover) really is a statement to the writing of this book.
The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward is one of those books I just can't get out of my head. And yes, I know I've already posted about it. (you can find my review in a post below)
It's just one of those books that while confusing at times is just setting itself up to blow your fucking mind. It is absolutely twisted, but in the best ways possible. If you don't believe me, go ask some of the other people I've seen posting about it...

I don't know about you, but I love a twisty mystery...
I know there has been a lot of back and forth about this book, it seems either you love it or hate it. I really loved it. I listened to this one on audio (I know, shocker).
Besides the unrealistic narrative that these girls wouldn't have been caught more quickly, I fully enjoyed this wild ride. Emily and Kristen had some major twisted sister, ride or die shit going on. There were so many twists and turns and you never knew what actually happened or who was telling the truth.
I loved the background history and the sneaking around. I enjoyed the parts the side characters played as well, they added a lot to the mystery and really contributed to the menacing feeling that haunted this story.
Say what you will about this one, but this shit was crazy good.

🖋 𝙲𝚘𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚛'𝚜 𝚁𝚎𝚙𝚘𝚛𝚝 - This is a very hard book to review. The story line is great. But, the majority of the book is sloooow. Thankfully the end portion of the book makes up for how slow it is.
I was able to listen to this on audio and I'm so thankful for that. I honestly may have DNF'd it otherwise. The audio added a lot to the feel of the story and I really enjoyed the narrator's southern accent.
Through the majority of the book you only gets small parts of the Gothic Horror and Mystery of the story. A lot of it is talking cars (which I like, but didn't feel added as much to the storyline) and trying to get their hands on lost research.
One thing I did love, other than the Mystery and Gothic Horror aspects was how much Queer rep there is. There were so many aspects and people in different stages of their sexuality. I thought this was wonderfully represented and it felt so natural and believable. Probably one of the best portrayals of discovering ones sexuality that I've read in a while.
I also really enjoyed the feel of the story. I got a lot of Ronan Lynch (Raven Boys) vibes from Andrew and the group. Also a little Adam Parish in the supernatural aspect. I really enjoyed that feeling as The Raven Boys is one of my favorites. So thank you Mandelo for giving me that feeling.
All in all, I would reccomend this one, just go in knowing it's a super slow burn, but the rep and finish line is worth it.
Starting with Grave Mercy, the His Fair Assassins Trilogy follows three women, Ismae, Sybella and Annith, "The Handmidens of Mortain". This series is absolutely AMAZING and doesn't get as much love and attention as it deserves!
I was fortunate enough to meet @rllafevers and haver her sign and personalize my copies a few years back at an event held at @mystgalaxybooks These books hold such a special place in my heart.

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I'd go to see all the Ancient Civilizations, I can't choose just one.
The time is upon us again! I like to get these up ahead if time so you all can plan ahead. October's theme is "serial killers" in case you couldn't tell. 😱 I didn't want to do a typical Halloween theme, but still wanted to do something super dark and creepy... so here we are. 😬
As always, you can decide how each prompt is interpreted. It doesn't have to be serial killer related whatsoever! I'm just one of those weird people who is interested in true crime and the psychology behind why people do such strange and fucked up things.
I hope you all will join in, but I take no offense if this October theme is a bit much for some and apologize if I've made anyone feel uncomfortable. That is definitely not the intent at all. 🖤
Well, first off, I was not a huge fan of the writing style. It was overly complex in some parts, making it hard to read and get the point across due to disjointed sentences/paragraphs. I get that the author was trying to get a certain point or emotion across during these times, slipping in lots of details that would have been non existent othersie, but it was a bit much at the start of the book. It does get a little better on this front later in the story. Still descriptive, but it flowed more smoothly.
I really enjoyed all the Japanese details and different folklore creatures. That was probably my favorite part. It was fun watching them come to life and was not overly coplicated. I do however wish the story revolved more around the folklore and less around the characters, which brings me to my next point.
I thought the story as a whole was neat, but somewhere along the way I felt it got lost in the actions of the characters. The author pretty much narrates what is about to happen just before it happens, which takes the fun and shock factor out of what is about to happen. Whereas this is a short story to begin with, that part really took away from the whole mood that was set.
Also, the ending comes so abruptly. It's like the story starts out with all of this potential and introducing us to the folklore of this specific place and then ends so suddenly with a simple character driven ending. I guess I would have liked to see a little more of the folklore translated into these parts and less of the full on character narration during one of the most crucial parts of the story. It was just a bit of a letdown. I mean, the parts that were good, were good, then it just kind of trails off suddenly...

I know that most of you are just as excited as I am that the US FINALLY gets to release Empire of the Vampire! I've seen so many post lately (not surprising) of all the gorgeous UK and Aussie Editions. Its finally our turn!!!
I won't be getting my physical copies for a little bit since they are SE's that came in book boxes and aren't shipped yet, so I opted for a Kindle edition and the Audiobook to satisfy my thirst for this book until I can actually get my hands on this chonker.
In different news, @blueforestblackmoon is having a Rep Search! 🤗 They are the creators of this Vampyre candle (which smells amazing btw, it sniffs of Crimson Berries, Bloodlust and Damson Plum). Sara and Danny are the absolute best, so if you are a candle junkie like I am and want to be part of something spectacular, definitely go check them out and apply.

I will FOREVER be in love with The Lost Boys! It's such a classic with amazing characters and I can never get enough of it!
This story is essentially told in three different perspectives (which I enjoyed). You get the view of what's going on around the campus and behind the scenes from three of the psychopaths in this program. We also have two main story lines, one being that of Chloe and her need for revenge on Will and the other is who is killing the students.
As far is the Chloe and Will story, I wish there had been a little more to it. At times it felt like there wasn't enough to this specific story to be touted as a major part. Yes, that's essentially what gets Chloe to join this program, along with the free tuition from being a psyohopath, but there wasn't enough going on between why she was there and the final act. It felt a bit rushed and I wanted a bit more from it. That being said, that's my only qualm with the book.
The story of what's going on on campus is the real story, and it was so good! These are the parts that made me not want to put this book down. There was so much going on in the present and so much mystery to the back-story and so many twists and miss directions along the way that for the most part, I didn't know who was behind it all. As you get closer to the final quarter of the book, things start to piece together and you kind of get the feeling of who the killer is, but it was still a hell of a ride to get there.
I loved all the detail the author put into this story, all the workings in the characters minds and little idiosyncrasies that each one had that made them all the more mysterious and real feeling. Each character was so interesting and how they interacted with each other was fun.
There were so many real world happenings in this book, from BLM to not feeling safe to walk at night for fear of being attacked or raped, the fact that people with mental health issues are seen as scary, less than human or as monsters just because they think or act differnetly. How a label in any from from "phychopath" to "slut" can hurt someone. After all aren't we all human inside? This book not only makes you think and feel about the story at hand, but also all the underlying details that are so effortlessly placed amidst it.
First off, HUGE thank you to @tornightfire for allowing me to enjoy this story before it comes out on Sept 21st.
I'm so glad that Slewfoof was my introduction to this wonderful author. This book was pure magic and nostalgia for me. It brought me back to my reading roots of witchy tales, which gave me my love of reading to begin with. It also gave me that wondrous feeling of watching a movie inside my head and I could picture all the story and characters so vividly. I imagined the forest folk the way Henson portrayed the goblins in Labrynth. I was so imersed in this tale and I know this is one I will be revisiting time and again.
Brom has such an amazing talent of bringing the reader right into the world that he has so lovingly created. I could picture the town, the people and the way of life that was led back in that time. I could feel Abitha's anguish and need to prove herself and not have to live a life of servitude to her terrible brother-in-law. To be free of the rules and live a life that was meaningful for herslef. As the great Pierce Brown would say "I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war", the same was true for Abitha. No matter what, she would never live in peace during a time when women were of little worth without a man.
This story flashes from Abitha's story to the story of Slewfoot and the forest folk, which eventually meet up and intertwine. This is where I get the Labrynth vibes lol. When it flashes to the forest folk I picture the parts in the movie where the goblins are scurrying around, "did she say it" hahaha. I loved these parts as this is where the magic comes into play and where we, the reader, and Slewfoot himself start to find out who he is and why he has been brought to this time and place.
I loved the interactions and understanding that Abitha and Slewfoot had for each other, even if the townspeople and forest folk were both set against such things. Slewfoot was such an interesting character and I really enjoyed watching how Brom made the "devil" story his own.
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤/5 One of my top reads of the year so far! I'm beyond excited to check out Brom's other works.
The Lost Girl - A Fear Street Novel by R. L. Stine
꧁ Review ꧂
Talk about "holy sh*t"… This book had some pretty gnarly scenes in it. It was awesome!
This very well might be one of my new favorites from R. L. Stine. I had the pleasure of listening to this baby on audiobook (thanks to @macmillan.audio and @netgalley) and man was it good. The storyline was great, the characters were on point and it sure hit with the creepy horror that I was craving. I'm not even a little shocked that I enjoyed this so much.
The story follows two time lines, one where a young girl witnesses her fathers horrific murder and then runs for her life never to be seen again… Then we jump to 70 years later when a girl appears in the neighborhood and Michael can't seem to stay away from her even though there are lots of weird things about her and the things she does. Of course the time lines meet up at some point and we get to understand the full spectrum of the book. Stine always knows how to pull a good story together.
If you're a big fan of Stine's or just getting in to horror, I highly reccomend this one. The nostalgia alone for me, being back on Fear Street has been great, but honestly, they really are just great books for beginner horror fans and young adults.
Bravo Stine, forever a fan!

If you got pulled through time, would you want to go back in time or forward?
This book was kind of like reading a Fear Street novel mixed with The Diviners by Libba Bray, and I loved it.
Taking place in the small town of Snakebite, life is not easy for Logan or her two fathers, who grew up there. Many years prior Logan's fathers left Snakebit abruptly for unknown reasons, but when they return kids start going missing. The town, who were not fond of the couple years ago, are convinced they are the reason for these missing kids. But Logan and her new "friend" Ashley (whose boyfriend went missing) want the truth.
Things are much more complicated, sad and darker than anyone ever knew. I loved the way things come together and the backstory. It was fun finding out bits and pieces from other people in the town who knew Logan's fathers a long time ago, each had insight and new information that was actually useful.
I really enjoyed the characters in this story, everyone was well fleshed out, believable and interesting. Logan was by far my favorite. I really felt for her and enjoyed watching here grow and come into her own throughout the story. Also her fathers had a really good backstory that added so much depth to the happenings in the book.
There were lots of learning experiences and real world prejudices which really brought you into the story. I think the author did a great job keeping you in that world while also adding the darker more paranormal elements. Things fit together well and didn't feel like they didn't belong together or feel too farfetched. Definitely an author the keep your eye on.
The Audiobook was also great. The narration was spot on for what this story needed and dragged you right into the action.
Thank you to @macmillan.audio and @Netgalley for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review
