Daphne is, by far, the most athletic of them. She grew up with a lot of money to try a lot of different things. Taekwando, rock climbing, distance swimming, horse back riding, ect. Girl has abs of steel.

Shaggy could run for days. And he's fast enough to keep pace with someone on a bike for awhile, especially if the Adrenalin is pumping.

Shaggy doesn't have much sense of smell and no sense of taste. That explains the bologna peanut butter sandwiches.

Shaggy knows the laws. Wherever they're going he brushes up on the local legislature. He knows where they can go and where they need to go sneakily because trespassing. He knows what constitutes as slander. He knows the Good Samaritan law and the county's tolerance for vigilantism.

Freddy's strong from working with heavy tools but doesn't really have defined muscles.

Freddy has little scars on his hands from working with heavy machinery and little intricate projects that might kind of explode a little sometimes. Hey, making traps that can hold ancient forces of evil but not kill a real person in case they're in disguise is a lot harder than it seems!

Velma cares nothing for the laws of men. No fire wall, no barbed wire fence, no police tape is going to stop her insatiable curiosity.

Velma once toppled a corrupt politician with nothing but her smart phone and the free wifi at her local library. She was eleven.

Velma's not color blind like Freddy, she just has bad taste.

Velma fully believes in both Bigfoot and Aliens and she will prove the existence of both before she dies or so help her she'll come back as a ghost and posses somebody-

How I’d write the Scooby Doo characters.

Fred Jones. He’s captain of the Coolsville High School wrestling team. The only one with a valid drivers license. His biggest goals in life is to marry Daphne Blake and make friends with a real life cryptid. His father is the mayor and his mother is a on the board of directors at the hospital. He has a sister called Flora who just started walking. He STILL has a rivalry going with Red Herring. Only this time it’s because Red is a Bigfoot denialist. Dean Winchester would look at Fred’s relationship with the mystery machine and go “a little bit too much don’t you think?” Fred doesn’t care though. Nothings too good for his baby.

Daphne Blake. She used to be captain of the cheerleading team. But then came the Elbow And Teeth Incident. So now she’s on the jujitsu team. Her family owns the town. It used to be called Blakesville. But in the sixties their third biggest export was weed, they became popular with the hippies, so they renamed the town to capitalise on it and the rest is history. She loves fashion but thinks people like Lady Gaga try too hard. She can drive an ATV. But anything larger than that and she panics. Flim Flam is her adoptive little brother.

Shaggy Rogers. He’s captain of the Coolsville High School track and field team. His mother owns a chain of restaurants and his father runs an animal charity. He was the owner of the mystery machine. But he gave it to Fred for his 16 birthday. He believes in ghosts and monsters and the like. He just wishes that they’d leave everyone alone. His family own the weed that cause the rename of the town. He has absolutely NO idea that half the girls at school have a thing for him. He only has eyes for Velma. His younger sister Maggie is the only member of her elementary schools young entrepreneurs club.

Velma Dinkley. She is OBSESSED with Shaggy. To the point that she tries to threaten every other girl who likes him that isn’t Daphne and she doesn’t even know that Shaggy likes her back. She’s had the same pageboy hair cut since she was four years old. She’s liked how it frames her face. Her mother owns a robotics company and her father is a rocket scientist. She very much wants to try her experiment fuel on the mystery machine. Fred said she can when she hits six feet in height. She’s 4”10. She’s the only one without any brothers or sisters. Which is something she likes to lord over the others.

Scooby Doo. Been with Shaggy since he was a puppy. His mother didn’t survive the birth. There’s no magical reason why he can talk. He just can. Although Velma does, however, have a theory that The Muppets was somehow involved.

Scrappy. Still Scooby’s nephew. On his sister Ruby’s side. Still overzealous. But he actually knows when to cut his losses and run like hell when needed.

Sally McKnight and the Hex Girls. Are in high school with the rest of them. Not famous yet. They are VERY popular among the student body despite the fact that Sally’s dad is the principal. Luckily though. Principal McKnight is very easy going.

Flim Flam. Real name Floyd Blake. He was adopted when he was a baby. He is legally Scrappy’s owner. But they’re more like best friends. Desperately wants to join the team when he’s older. But he’s ten. So for now he’s just their man in the chair.

Vincent Van Ghoul. Yes that is his real name. He’s Daphne’s godfather, Sally’s maternal uncle and the team’s occult literature supplier. The way he figures it. If four teenagers and their talking dog want to hunt monsters. They need a professional on hand to keep them alive. And Vincent Van Ghoul IS that professional.

Scooby Dum. More naive than outright stupid. Still Scooby’s cousin. But Scrappy calls him uncle anyway. Currently Vincent’s houseguest. And quite the talented chef. If you don’t mind lashings of barbecue. Thankfully. Vincent doesn’t.

from the moment she was born, daphne jean wallis has been a force to be reckoned with

as the youngest of a brood of children, she always felt like she had to do everything possible to be seen and heard

to put it lightly she was the runt of the litter, adapting to her surroundings by standing on anything that looked sturdy enough to support her, just so she could see what everyone else was doing

unfortunately her siblings did their best to ignore her most of the time, not wanting to stop long enough to listen about her newest rant or rave

she was always the closest with lucky, but it was because he had the most chill attitude and didn’t seem to find her presence to be a bother

in other words, he was the only person who didn’t treat daphne like an entire nuisance

daphne’s special interest was rather odd for someone of her age: conspiracy theories

she earned her love of them from her grandmother, too much time spent at her house watching x-files and discussing what went on behind the scenes in terms of the government

she was five years old when she started spouting off about things like aliens and bigfoot, and as she got older it only got worse

because of this, most people her age avoided her at all costs, usually only hanging around long enough for a gentle greeting before she was by herself again

this didn’t stop daphne from trying to make friends though, and by the time she got to high school she was able to change that

daphne was able to find a friend group that was just as weird and adventurous as she was, and for once in her life she felt like she belonged

within this friend group is where she met the boy she fell in love with; their romance happened naturally, and within months they were seemingly attached at the hip

together the group started an online blog to document their suspicions about the government and its inner workings

it wasn’t meant to spread too far, only shared with trusted individuals in fear that the wrong person would get their hands on it

but daphne had always had trouble laying low, and after getting too friendly with someone, word of the blog got out, and suddenly it grew popular

the friend group had just graduated high school, and instead of going to college, they all chose to make the blog their full time jobs

everything was going smoothly for a long time; they were all living together happily, and daphne’s boyfriend could also be heard talking about popping the question sooner rather than later

unfortunately, he didn’t come home one night, and the later it got, the more she worried

not heeding the warnings of her friends, daphne set out to find her boyfriend by herself

she had no clue what she was going to find when she went out, passing by alleyways and familiar spots that had only ever brought her comfort

but upon finding several police cars with their lights flashing, daphne knew instantly that something was wrong

her boyfriend was lying dead on the ground surrounded by police officers and detectives, and all they could tell her was that it was foul play and that someone had killed him

that was a decade ago, but to this day daphne is still riddled with grief

she made it her life’s mission to find out who murdered the love of her life, and she has plenty of suspicions and paper trails to follow, though proving it has been difficult

daphne still has her friends behind her to show their support, and they all still run that online blog, but they keep it more discreet and hidden

her full time day job is at a journalist, but the veil of night often finds her wandering the streets looking for more answers

Fred "Freddie" Jones

Fred is autistic. Think about it, he's a bit socially off, super interested in mystery solving and pretty good at identifying the patterns the monster of the week works in enough to make traps that fairly frequently catch them, even factoring in Scooby and Shaggy's shenanigans.

I'm actually torn on identifying him as a himbo. He has the characteristics ofc, fairly strong, very kind, and not the brightest lamp in the gang. But something does feel off about the label

Gonna talk about race because of the non-existent Hot Bullshit Output show. Fundamentally, little is lost by changing his race. Being white isn't integral to his character and honestly I feel like Fred, while not the boring one, could benefit from the added layers of characterization that could be inferred from being a person of color. But I honestly view him as just some guy enough that he could be virtually anything. When I redesign him I think my best bet for the way I see him would be mixed race, and ambiguous not for tokenism but because he was adopted and it's another layer of not fitting in in his original family life/home life, hence him traveling around in a van. Sure he could pass and mask and get along well enough but he's much more comfortable in his own skin

Fred also is the type of person who Ghost Hunting shows are the bane of his existence because it's all fake! It's always fake! And then when it's real they have no proof because film is expensive and Modern Day Scooby Doo is not a thing, you cannot tell me anyone in the gang is allowed to own a smartphone. They don't know what an ipad is. The van has a cassette player shut up--

He and Velma have gotten into great debates about these easily disproved phenomena too. Bigfoot? Loch Nessie? Jersey Devil? All frauds according to Fred. He's not having it for a second. Velma hates this about him.

Only Fred line I like from Mystery Inc. is "It's just Fred. Or Freddie if we're dating!" All the gang calls him Freddie except Scooby. Do with that what you will.

Anyway! My favorite interpretation of Fred is Movie based, I like the quadrilogy that starts at Zombie Island and ends at Cyber Chase, largely because of nostalgia and equally as largely because he's such! A good friend and supportive partner to Daphne in those? I just think Fred is at his best when he's supportive and working well with everyone instead of seeming self centered, vain, or bossy. Close second is Pirates Ahoy. I know I said I view him as adopted and a bit distant from his parents but I feel like they are the kind to try their best and what says "trying their best" more than surprising Fred with a mystery cruise on his birthday? Active effort regarding his interests but slightly missing the mark because the gang ran circles around everyone and it not only spoiled the trip for everyone else but I don't think they even broke a sweat that whole two days.

Overall I just believe that Fred should be chill and appreciative/supportive of his friends, and that he's less the straight man and more "I'm very used to pretending to be normal and most people don't realize it's an act"

I have a new wip I'm fiddling with if anyone wants to take a peek

Eight years ago, a strange anomaly occurred. At first it seemed like a random, harmless, but confusing event, but then strange sightings started to occur, starting near where the anomaly occurred and spreading from there. Many people think monsters and demons crossed over into our world and are a threat to humanity. Others believe these are nothing more than hoaxes and hysteria, but the truth? These monsters are a lot like humans, most are good and relatively harmless unless provoked, but some are bad and dangerous and far more capable of causing harm than a typical human.

Only a few humans know the truth about what the anomaly brought over, but not the why. Some have chosen to hunt down these perceived dangers, while others risk their lives to help them. One family, the Rogers, have dedicated themselves to helping hide a family of hellhounds, a dog looking species with the capability of understanding and mimicking human speech and the ability to travel through and become shadows.

Understanding the threat to their safety from both humans and monsters alike, the hellhound family chooses to pretend to be normal dogs, only being their true selves with the Rogers. This can be isolating at times, but in this isolation, a friendship forms. Socially awkward Norville, who goes by the nickname Shaggy, becomes close friends with a hellpup named Scooby Doo. The two are inseparable to the point that the family even got Scooby registered as a service dog so that he could attend school with Shaggy.

Among Shaggy’s schoolmates include three characters who all have taken a particular interest in the anomaly.

Velma Dinkly is a woman of science and reason. The concept of monsters invading our world through a magic portal is absurd. While she does not yet know the supposed true reason behind the anomaly, she is determined to prove it had a sound logical explanation and that all these “sightings” are hoaxes, fear mongering, and good old fashion tourist bait.

Daphne Blake has always been interested in the supernatural. Maybe monsters aren’t real, but what if they were? What would that mean for the world? With a curious mind that can’t let a good mystery go, Daphne decides she needs to dig deeper into this new urban fantasy to see how much is fact and how much is fiction.

Fred Jones believes monsters are real. He isn’t a crazy conspiracist, he doesn’t believe ever blurry picture of bigfoot or the mothman is real, but something happened that day of the anomaly and the world changed forever. Fred grew up sketching out trap ideas in his notebook about different ways to capture different monsters so he can see them up close and have proof these monsters really exist.

After graduation, Daphne and Fred come up with the plan to travel around to different monster spottings and do some detective work. They invite Velma and Shaggy to join, knowing they also share an interest in monsters. Velma agrees right away, excited to proved these sightings are fabricated, but Shaggy declines at first. He knows from the Doo family how dangerous some of these monsters can be. But, later that day at dinner, his parents remind him many monsters aren’t dangerous and in fact could be in danger and if some humans are going to be poking their nose into this stuff, someone might get hurt, human or monster. The next day, Shaggy meets up with the  group and tells them he changed his mind.

A lot is riding on the success of this investigation for Daphne. Being the youngest child with five very successful sisters, Daphne’s parents want her to do something more fitting of her status, something high paying and flashy, not bumming it in an old van, looking for clues for a mystery not many care about. But Daphne is determined to prove that she isn’t throwing her life away.

since everyone’s sharing their ideas for the Scooby gang here’s mine

Daphne: She 100% believes in the supernatural and is also a pastel goth. Loves occult movies and science fiction books, her favorite was Frankenstein.

Velma: She WANTS to believe in the supernatural but is also skeptic by nature. Grew up on Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes books.

Shaggy: He’s super into cryptids and monsters in theory but obviously seeing one in real life would freak him out. Huge fan of cheesy horror/slasher movies. Avidly believes in Bigfoot.

Fred: Grew up on ghost hunting shows and wants to emulate his heroes. He’s gained so much knowledge on ghost hunting equipment and traps but doesn’t have a lot of common sense.

Scooby: A very good boy. Also he can actually see ghosts like a lot of people suspect dogs can.

💖 - favorite relationship outside of the Gang?

So when I first read this question I interpreted it as "favorite relationship between a member of the Gang and a non member", but looking at it again I think it's actually supposed to be "favorite relationship between two non-Gang members", so that's what I'll answer. (In case you all were curious though, the relationships I was originally going to talk about were Daphne + Alex Super ["Mamba Wamba and the Voodoo Hoodoo"], Velma + Debbie ["The Weird Winds of Winona"], Shaggy + Tinker [Laff-a-Lympics], and Scrappy with the Gang more generally.)

I'm a big fan of Scrappy with Yabba Doo (and Deputy Dusty) from the Yabba Doo shorts. It's a similar dynamic to the one he has with Scooby and Shaggy, with Scrappy admiring his uncle and the human character trying to keep him out of trouble, but it gets switched up by having Yabba also being a very brave, go-getter sort of character. I thought it was a neat dynamic for Scrappy to bounce off of, someone who is just as direct + impulsive as him but still has life experience that can be used to nurture and guide him. It allows for Scrappy to have a different adult influence and environment in his life while still having the jokes that come with a comedic character trying to control him/deal with the consequences of his actions.

It's my personal preference that if Scrappy doesn't end up staying with Scooby and Shaggy, that he gets to be with Yabba and Dusty and grow up to be a cowboy. It fits his personality well and Yabba and Dusty clearly liked having him around too (even if Dusty got exasperated sometimes).

👗- favorite outfit(s) worn by the Gang?

For this question I'm limiting myself to just on outfits I have screenshots for on this blog, since if I considered everything the characters have ever worn we'd be here all day.

For Fred, I'm going to go with a comic outfit instead of a show one, the swimsuit he wore in the comic "Mystery in Malibu". (Technically I didn't screenshot this particular outfit but I've posted panels from this comic so I'll count it.) I just think it's interesting that they chose to give him swim briefs instead of swim trunks.

For Velma, I'm going with the pajamas she wore in "The Ghost of Bigfoot". I think the detail of her wearing something in her hair - I think they're hair rollers specifically - was a neat choice for the creators to make. The little hint of pink is nice, too, switching up her colors slightly.

Staying with "The Ghost of Bigfoot", I've mentioned a couple times before that I'm a big fan of Daphne's pajamas in this episode too. I just think the nightgown is super cute. I like the frills at the top and I think using the light pink was a good color choice; it brings emphasis to a color that's part of her outfit but isn't her main one, and I think a softer color like that works well with this style of nightgown. (I personally refer to as a "baby doll" nightgown, idk what the offical name is). The matching slippers were a good choice too, very in-character.

I also have a couple honorable mentions for Daphne outfits, as she is a fashionable gal. First is the winter outfit she wore in "The Ghost of Bigfoot" (I've heard some people don't like it but personally I appreciate her cute hat and dedication to matching clothes) and the second is her swimwear from the aforementioned "Mystery in Malibu" comic, since it's that light pink color I think looks good on her and also she wears a nifty jacket with it.

For Shaggy and Scooby, I'm fond of their knight + squire outfit from the Laff-a-Lympics episode "Egypt and Sherwood Forest". I like the detail of Shaggy's shirt sticking out of his armor, both because it's part of his whole "loose clothes" look and because it kinda makes it look like he's wearing a skirt. Scooby's squire outfit is just cute to me, with the frilly collar and the way his ears stick out of his hat. (There was also a joke someone posted on one of my screenshots that the "S" on their outfits looked like it was there for their initials, which just makes me like them more.)

An honorable mention outfit for Shaggy is the winter outfit he wears during the dog sled race in "Canada and Warsaw, Poland”. I like how they switch up his colors a bit by going with red + yellow, and how he got the full winter getup with a fun hat and cozy boots and stuff.
