I'm Not In Love With Her! I Don't Even Care That I Haven't Seen Her In Approximately 96 Hours!
Tumblr media
Steve knows that Danny’s in love with you. He knows that because this is the fifteenth time Danny has checked his phone in approximately three minutes and it’s starting to drive him a little crazy.
“It’s ok to admit you care about her.” He says quietly as he focuses on the road ahead. “That you may even be a little in love with her.”
“I'm not in love with her.” Danny tells him, his thumb searching through the last text exchange. “I don't even care that I haven't seen her in approximately 96 hours.”
“Danny that’s four days.” Steve says before tilting his head towards his friend. “Are you telling me you haven’t heard from your girlfriend in four days? Did you do something?”
“She’s not my girlfriend and why have you always gotta assume I did something?” Danny snaps at him as he tucks his phone into his trouser pocket. “We had a good time, I kissed her goodbye at the door…”
“And?” Steve prompts.
“And nothing.” Danny informs him. “Not a word since.”
“OK, let’s swing by there, just check in make sure everything’s ok.” Steve says, flicking on the turn signal. “Would that make you feel better? Because it would make me feel better and I don’t even know Jana, in fact I’m a little offended that you haven’t introduced the two of us considering you’re in love with her.”
“Will you just shut up and get us there?” Danny snaps and it’s that tone, that urgency that makes Steve put his foot down flat on the pedal.
“You have that bad feeling don’t you?” Steve says as the engine roars to life.
“Yea.” Danny says quietly as he looks out the window. “I do.”

Past Fights and Bloodlines
Tumblr media
Pairing: Danny Williams x McGarrett!reader, Steve McGarrett x McGarrett!reader (Cousins)
Characters: McGarrett!reader (Cousin), Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua
Warnings: Fluff, hehe I love this so much, Danny and reader met once years ago, I am hinting at the one wresting movie Scott Caan did in the early 2000′s, why was this so much fun to write?, this is purely Hawaii Five-0 crack, Steve acting more like an older brother than he does a cousin, reader wants Danny for herself and Steve can’t stop you, ignore Chin’s one semi cringey comment (no regrets)
Word Count: 1,382
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There's a fight in town," Steve brings up out of nowhere as you mess with the items on his desk.
"And?"
He watches you, wondering why you’re not as enthused as him. "And? I'm asking if my favorite cousin wants to go."
You glance up at him with furrowed brows. "Steve, I'm you're only cousin."
He rolls his eyes. "So, you wanna go or not?"
"I never said no. Let's go." You push yourself out of your chair.
"It's not for another three hours."
You spin around to stare at him, holding the back of the chair. "Yeah, I know. You're treating me to dinner before we go."
"Oh, am I?"
"You dragged me here for a case, the least you can do is take me to dinner."
"I like her," Danny smiles, standing in the doorway of Steve's office.
"Shut up, Danno."
You take a step away from the chair and smile at your cousin's partner. "Thank you, Daniel."
"Danny," he corrects you.
"Daniel sounds better, I'll use Danny for when you're in trouble. Don't cross me."
He nods and looks away from you. "Don't cross you, got it."
"Now if you'll excuse us. Steven and I are going to dinner and then go to the fight."
"Ooh, where you guys going?"
"Don't know," you shrug. "You wanna come. He's paying."
Steve stands up, trying to chime in. "He doesn't-"
"I'd love to. Thank you for inviting me."
"We have much to talk about."
"Yes, yes we do." He holds his arm out, gesturing for you to go out first.
"Thank you."
"Of course, I'm not an animal."
"No, you are not. You're more polite than some people."
Danny smirks as you two walk by Chin and Kono.
Steve exits his office and mutters to himself. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"
"Not at all, boss," Kono pats his shoulder.
"It's going to be an entertaining night for you," Chin adds.
"I don't like you two right now."
"That's okay. We still love you, big Kuhuna."
Steve shakes his head and jogs out of the room, needing to catch up to you two before more bonding happens.
-
"I'll be back, do either of you want a beer or something?" You ask.
Steve nods, giving you, his order.
"No thank you. I'd like to be able to get through story time without any issues."
You nod. "I'll be back."
It takes you a few minutes before you make it to the seats. "Oh sorry. Excuse me. Coming through." You managed to get on the opposite side from where the others were and sigh, walking back towards them.
"Sorry, excuse me." You start walking down the aisle. "Excuse me."
You're three people away from your crew.
"I finally made- woah."
Danny places his hands on your waist, preventing you from bumping into him and him into you.
You smile at him, "thank you, Daniel."
"No problem."
"Steve, your drink."
Once you get situated, you begin to relax.
You scream and shout for the wrestler you want to win, which makes Danny raise a brow. Not entirely expecting you to be so into it.
You enjoy yourself until someone bumps into you, spilling your food. "Hey, jerkwad."
The guy turns around and shrugs you off.
"You spill my food; you pay for another."
"You're the one that was in my way."
"Are you serious?"
"Go bug someone else lady."
"Oh, you-"
Danny grabs you and pulls you back before you can attack the rude guy as Steve steps forward, taking care of the situation. "Let's not hurt the guy, no matter how rude he was and sit back down."
"I don't even care that he bumped into me, and I spilled my food. It's the price. I paid for Steve's beer and my small snack which is now on the floor-"
"I know. How about this, after the match. I take you out to get something to make up for his jerky behavior."
You spin around in his arms, staring at him for a few seconds. "I think we can arrange that, and I promise I won't keep you for long since you have story time tonight."
"I appreciate that."
"Then it's a date."
"A- a date?"
You think he doesn't want to go on a date with you, making you rethink your question. "Not a date?"
"No, no. I never said that."
"Good, I think we'll have a good time."
-
"Why're you so happy?" Steve asks you as you step inside.
"No reason. I'm going to bed. Night."
"No, no. Get back here and tell me why Danny just pulled out of my driveway."
"I was on a date."
"You are not allowed to date coworkers."
"I can date whoever I want. It's not like any of you have ever followed that rule."
"This is different-"
"Why? Because I'm your family and you don't want William’s blood to taint the McGarrett bloodline if we ever get that far."
"Oh, gross!"
"Grow up, Steven. He's going to be coming around a lot more, whether you like it or not."
-
Danny texted you saying he's here.
You walk down the stairs with a pep in your step as you stand in front of the door, fixing your hair (Danny does the same). "Hi, Daniel."
"How many times am I going to tell you to call me Danny."
"Every day, if you'd like."
"Oh, is that right?" He smirks.
"Come on in. I'm about to make coffee. You want some?"
"I would, thank you." He barely takes his eyes off you as you close the door.
“You’re really into the fight, when- uh- when that’d happen?”
You shrug, “I’ve always been into wrestling.”
“You reminded me of this one time; I went when I was a teenager, and I took this guy I knew years ago. We sat next to this girl who was basically like you were yesterday and then my friend came back and bumped into her, spilling everything she got all over the lap.”
“The same thing happened to me. My family and I just moved to this one town and my dad was working while mom was doing her thing in the navy. I was having a bad day and I- wrestling was my only out. I never participated in it but watching it was my escape. Anyway, this dumbass came around and bumped into me. His friend pulled him away before I could, well, do anything.”
“Oh, really?” He asks with interest. “The girl my friend ran into reached over me and socked him. I think-”
That reminds you of the scar on your hand. “Yeah, and I ripped my knuckle on his braces.”
“- She ripped her knuckle on his braces.”
Your eyes widen. “Holy.”
“Wow.”
You clap your hands together. "How about breakfast?"
"Are you cooking?"
"Steve's not back from his run yet, so it'll be me cooking."
"I'll accept."
You push him away, letting him settle on top of the counter on the side of the stove. "How about you make the coffee and I work on breakfast?"
"Deal."
"Do you know how the coffee machine works?"
"I think I can figure it out."
"Great, you get started on the coffee and I'll do my thing."
Steve locks the door behind him and opens his mouth to call out for you, only to hear laughter coming from the kitchen. He rolls his eyes and wanders to the kitchen. "I don't like this."
"Too bad. He's hot and I like him."
"Please don't ever say that again."
"No, please say it again. I'm what?" Danny smiles at you.
"You're hot and I like you."
"Thank you. You, yourself look phenomenal."
"You're such a charmer."
"I'm going to the office before I need to bleach my eyes."
"Okay, just hope we don't need to bleach the kitchen."
Danny's eyes widen and his jaw drops.
You cover his mouth and quietly shush him. "Go along with it," you whisper.
"If I smell even a drop of-"
"Go away, Steve." He shakes his head and walks out of his house, trying to erase any kind of traumatic vision you put in his mind.
"Did you figure out the coffee machine?"
"I think I broke it."
"I'll buy him a new one later."

Losing My Voice
Words: 829 Summary: After a bad day, your boyfriends comfort you.
A/N: This was my first attempt at something like this (relationship-wise) so let me know what you think!
Tumblr media
I was so angry and hurt. All these people telling me my voice matters. Bull. As I arrive to the house, I share with my two boyfriends, I slide down the inside of the front door. My vision starts to get blurry with tears, and my chest feels tight. I'm fighting to keep even breaths. I know I won't be able to stand, so instead I crawl my way over to the couch and climb onto it. My boys will know what's wrong as soon as they get home, so I let the tears fall, and the only sound I hear echo through the empty apartment are my sobs ripping through my chest.
I don't know how long I sit there before I hear the lock being manipulated by a key. I can still feel the ghosts of my tears on my face, so I don't see any point in trying to hide. Additionally, I could really use some comfort. Steve walks into the living room first. I watch him over the edge of the couch and feel it dip as he sits beside me. Han isn't too far behind him, but his footsteps head toward the kitchen.
"Babe, talk to me. What's going on?" Steve asks, wrapping an arm around me and tugging me gently into his arms. My vision starts going blurry again, and my chin wobbles.
"Steve." My voice cracks as I utter his name, and he simply squeezes me tighter, seeming to understand my unspoken words.
"Danno." Steve calls out. Danny’s footsteps get closer and I peer over the edge of the couch again as best as I can from my position in Steve’s lap. The couch dips once more as Danny sits next to our two-person pile and leans toward me. He hugs me, and though my face is in his chest, I take a breath, smelling him, letting the familiar scent bring calm to the chaos in my veins. I let go again, and Danny ‘s shirt gets damp. I can hear Steve’s voice in the background, as Danny pets my hair, and I feel more than hear Danny respond.
Once I start to calm down, Danny’s hands cup my cheeks, and peel my face from his shirt. "Sweetheart. What happened today?" His concerned voice flows over me, and I can see the adoration in his eyes.
"I-I just." I sigh, wanting to answer and explain my breakdown. Finally, I think of a starting point. "I know it hasn't been this bad in a while, but today was terrible. Everyone kept interrupting me and some of them were arguing with me over the same thing we've been going around for weeks about. I'm just tired, Danno." I steal Steve’s name for him, as per usual when I'm upset. "It just felt like they didn't care about me or my voice, and I started going down that path and it wouldn't stop. I couldn't do anything but think maybe I wasn't meant to be heard- I mean, I know I'm quiet and nonconfrontational. But my voice didn't matter today, and I felt so stupid for thinking maybe it did." I feel Steve’s chest rise with a sharp breath.
"Baby," Danny looks at him as Steve starts and I notice the tears welling in Danny’s eyes. "your voice always matters. Don't ever think it doesn't- we love listening to you. You are not stupid for thinking your voice matters. In fact, I don't ever want to hear you and stupid in the same sentence again, okay? As for people interrupting you, ignore them. They don't have the intelligence to realize they should listen to you."
Danny jumps in when Steve paused, "Honey, you are absolutely meant to be heard. We will always hear you. Like Steve said, your voice always matters. Next time this happens, call one of us, okay? Don't let the voices win. We'll fight them for you, but you have to tell us when. We don't care how busy we are," Steve rests his head on my shoulder and I feel him nod in agreement with the statement, "we will always listen to you." Once he finishes, he gently tugs me back into his chest, and I just sit there, in Steve’s lap with my head in Danny’s chest, his scent, once again, seeming to bring calm into my chaos. I can feel Danny playing lightly with my hair, and Steve wraps his hands around my waist.
"I know you're tired, baby, so I'm gonna put you in Danny ‘s lap, so I can cook dinner. We'll eat, and then cuddle in the bed, okay?" He softly asks, like he's afraid to break the quietness that seems to have settled over our living room. I nod and feel Danny’s chest rumble with chuckles. At my agreement, Steve picks me up and transfers me easily to Danny ‘s lap, and he just cradles me while we wait for Steve to finish cooking dinner.

Requested by @shamelessloverhairdopainter:  Imagine being Danny Williams's first boyfriend and always teasing him for how shy he is
XXX
“You know, Grace might be a monkey but you’re a little ‘opihi sometimes.” You teased Danny after he spent the last five minutes standing halfway behind you quietly while you talked to an old friend you had run into.
“I’m sorry, I’m a what?”
“’Opihi. They’re a little animal that clings to rocks at the beach. I’ll point some out to you some time.”
Danny grumbled a little and you laughed, squeezing his hand as you walked him back to the 5-0 headquarters. Sometimes you were surprised that he could be as shy as he seemed to you and be a detective. He talked to people all day for work but ask him to socialize off the clock and he would much rather spend his time doing anything but.
Not that you really minded of course. Getting to spend time with Danny was good enough for you, you didn’t need other people getting in the way of that.
He had admitted to you that, having been married before to a woman, he sometimes worried what people would think of him dating a man. While you couldn’t say you fully understood, that wasn’t your experience, you could empathize and do your best to support him.
And yes, sometimes tease him about his shyness.
It did mean that you had to speak up more sometimes but you made sure to talk with him about it as much as possible, to know when he did want you to step up and when he preferred to either speak for himself or leave it quiet.
You walked inside with him and ran into Steve almost immediately.
“Ah [Y/N], howzit brother.” Steve greeted.
“Can’t complain. You?”
“Doing good. You taking good care of my partner?” If there was one person who looked out for Danny as much as you did, it was Steve. You also were probably on equal footing when it came to teasing him.
“I do my best. But you know how he can be.” Danny blushed at that and looked like he was going to speak up when Steve beat him to the punch.
“Which part? The stubbornness? Nit-picking? Overly cautious? Or-”
“Okay okay we get Mr. Navy SEAL. And you know, I’m not the only stubborn one here. You-”
“Danny.” You cut him off with a smile.
“I’m just saying that he can be difficult too.”
“Oh I’ve never denied that Danno.” Steve smirked. “Need you in 5 minutes, okay?”
Danny nodded and Steve headed into the conference room to let you and Danny finish your conversation before his lunch break ended.
“I’ll see you after work right?” You confirmed.
“Yes. I’ll bring dinner and we can have a quiet night in.”
“What? You don’t want to go out and meet lots of people and have a wild time?”
“You know you’re absolutely right. That sounds much more like my type of night.” He replied sarcastically.
“I know.” You smiled. You did that a lot around him. “Okay, quiet night in. Be safe today, yeah?”
“With Steve behind the wheel? We’ll see about that.”
“Do what you can. See you tonight ‘opihi.”
Danny blushed at what he figured was going to be a new nickname. But he did like it. If being an ‘opihi meant he was attached to you, well there were certainly worse places to be.

Ohana- A Hawaii Five-0 Fanfic Chapter Five
This chapter is not what I wanted, but I'm not too sorry about how it planned out. I'm sorry it's so short but I wanted to try and get back on a schedule after last week. I had no kids at work so I was on office duty all week and had absolutely no time to write. I got this out in two days so go easy on me lol. Please enjoy this chapter though! It's nothing but Steve and Thea :)
Thea’s POV:
I could stop the tears falling the entire time I waited for Steve. I moved from the bar to the couch and stared at the papers in front of me. My father wants custody of Nora. After all these years, he’s deciding now to be a father. He has some nerves. I glanced over at the pictures on the wall of me and Nora throughout the years. The memories I had made with her, the childhood she had because of me. I did everything in my power to give her a childhood, something I didn’t have myself. I made sure she was able to be a kid and didn’t have to take care of anyone like I did. I never cared that she wasn’t biologically my daughter. She was MY baby. I raised her. Not him or anyone else, it was me. This can’t be happening right now.
A loud knock came from my front door. “Thea!”
I slowly got off the couch and rushed to the door. As soon as the door was open, I wrapped my arms around him tightly. I had never hugged him before, but God, I’m going to start hugging him now. He arms wrapped around me instantly and moved me farther into the house. I heard the door close behind him. It felt so calming being held by him.
His hands rubbed my back soothingly as his head rested on mine. “What happened?” He asked quietly.
I buried my face in his chest. “He’s going to take her from me.” I sobbed. Steve pulled back and looked down at me. He kept his arms wrapped around me.
“Who’s taking who from you?” He followed me to the living room. I picked up the papers and handed them to him. He studied them for a moment before looking at me. “Whose Peter Kenwood?” He asked.
I lowered myself onto the couch. Steve reached out and helped me down before sitting next to me. “He’s mine and Nora’s... Father. If you even want to call him that.” I wiped my eyes. “He hasn’t even seen Nora, never even protested when I got custody the first time but now, he wants to have full custody of her!” The sadness has passed now, and I was angry. How could my ‘father’ do this to me? How the hell does he think he is? Well, I know who he is.
Steve continued to read through the papers. “This is just a petition to change custody. No decision is being made just yet.” He said. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently. I was starting to notice that little squeezed like that was something he did often. Like he did it as a reassurance that he was here.
I looked up at him, his green eyes staring directly into mine. “She’s not going anywhere. No one is going to let him take her from you. I’m not going to let him take her from you.”
Another tear slipped down my cheek as he said it. “He has a lot of friends and business associates… He might win.” With my elbow propped on the back of the couch, pressed my forehead against my palm. “He has enough money to get a whole team of lawyers, I can’t even afford one.” I groaned. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to dump all this on you.” Steve wiped my tears away with his thumb as he cupped my cheek.
“That’s why I’m here, Thea.”
I shook my head and looked up at him. “I just don’t know what to do. She’s MY daughter, Steve. I can’t lose her.” The anger was coming back. I blame the pregnancy for the mood swings.
“Between you and Five-0, he won’t stand a chance of getting her, okay?” He pulled me close to him, kissing the top of my head. “Just let me do some digging around.”
God, having him hold me felt amazing. I had dreamed about this for weeks, not exactly having imagined it like this though. Having to comfort me in a situation like this was not something I thought I would be going through right now. I wrapped my arms around his middle and leaned into him. He kept his arms around me as he put the papers back in the envelope and tossed them on the coffee table. He leaned back onto the couch, never letting go of me. We sat there together for a few minutes, neither of us saying anything. I turned my head slightly, so my forehead was against his shoulder. Steve had his head leaned down on mine. Almost as if he were enjoying having me in his arms like I was.
“I’m sorry I pulled you away from the party.” I said quietly. I still didn’t trust my voice to not break down again.
He shook his head again. “You didn’t. Everyone left a few minutes after you did.” He paused for a moment. His hand was still running up and down my back. It hasn’t really stopped since he got here. The hand traveled up to my shoulder and squeezed gently. “I would have come anyway.” He whispered into my hair.
I couldn’t keep the slight smile off my face even if I tried. I sat up a little bit to look at him, our faces were just a few inches apart. “Thank you for coming.” I whispered.
He smiled softly at me. “I wouldn’t be anywhere else.”
Before I could stop myself, I pressed my lips to his. I felt Steve move slightly and I quickly backed up and got off the couch.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry! I did not mean to do that!” Steve stood up from the couch and reached for my arm.
“Thea-” I pulled out of the reach and headed to the kitchen.
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. I leaned against the bar and put my head in my hands. ‘What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you do that! He doesn’t see you like that! You’re the mother of his children.’ I groaned and tried to keep my tears back. ‘He probably thinks you’re hormonal’. I didn’t look up at Steve when he walked into the kitchen. I bet the look on his face was the serious aneurysm face that Grace talked about. I fucked up big time. He came up right behind me, his hand on my arm light, like he expected me to pull away from him.
“Thea, please look at me.”
I hesitantly turned around and looked up at him. “Look, I’m sorry. That was inappro-” I was cut off by him cupping the back of my neck and pulling me to him. His lips pressed against mine a bit rougher than the first time, holding me close to him. I put my hands up on his chest to push him back, but I couldn’t. I melted into the kiss, my hands moving up his chest to wrap around his neck. His other arm moved down my back and around my waist. He pulled me as close as he could with my bump in the way. Before I had a chance to deepen the kiss, he pulled away, but didn’t let go of me. Our foreheads are still touching, and I could still feel his breath on my face. My eyes were still closed. I was scared that if I opened them, he was going to push me away.
His thumb stroked my cheek gently. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a few weeks now.” He whispered.
One of my hands moved to his wrist and squeezed gently. “Don’t do that if you don’t mean it.”
He kissed me again but pulled away before I could react to it. I finally opened my eyes to see him looking down at me. “I mean it, okay? I’ve wanted to tell you for the last two weeks, but I didn’t know how, as cheesy and cliche as that sounds. I like and care about you, Thea.” He said, looking me in the eyes. “I know the situation we’re in right now isn’t exactly normal,” His hand went to my stomach. He only touched my bump once when I felt one of the babies move. We had tried to see if he would be able to feel it, but he couldn’t. I was hoping in the next few weeks he’d finally be able to feel them move like I had been. “But I want to be with you.” He said. He leaned in and kissed my cheek.
I took a deep breath and tried, for the umpteenth time tonight, to keep the tears from falling. ‘Goddamn pregnancy hormones’ I pushed away from him a bit so I could look at him. “Steve, I want to be with you too, but it isn’t just me I need to worry about.” He nodded in understanding. “Nora is the most important person in my life. I need you to know and understand that before anything can happen. I’m always going to choose my kids over anything else.” Most guys tended to run off after I made that confession. Though I was never sure if it was the kid part or the not coming in first on my list of priorities, that scared them away. I didn’t think that it would scare Steve away. He is about to have twins. But I knew it was something that still needed to be said.
He nodded again. “I know. I know how important Nora is to you. Honestly, she’s become important to me too. She’s a great kid and I…” He took my hand again, holding it close to him. “I want you both.”
I smiled, walking closer and looking up at him. ‘How have I not noticed how much taller he is?’
“Well, luckily for you, we’re both pretty fond of you.” I grinned. He leaned down to kiss me, but we were interrupted by my phone going off. I pulled away from him. “That’s probably Rachel.” I said. I walked into the living room and picked up my phone.
“Hey Rach.” I sat on the sofa.
Steve’s POV:
I couldn’t help but grin to myself as I watched her walk to the living room. I spent the last few weeks going over and over about how I was going to tell her I had feelings for her, only to have her kiss me. I really didn’t see that coming, but I knew that I should have. Danny had been telling me that I was freaking out over nothing and that I was doing what I always did when feelings were involved. I was panicking. ‘You need to thaw out your heart sometimes and let people in’ Is what he’s been telling me since I met him. Between my family issues and my life in the military letting people in like that was somewhat foreign to me. But after this with Thea, I wasn’t as scared anymore.
I glanced around at the kitchen. I had only been inside her apartment a few times. Once when I helped Thea carry groceries up. ‘She doesn’t need to be doing that on her own, not while she’s pregnant’ And once when I sat with Nora for a few minutes while Thea was getting her bag ready to spend the night at Danny’s. It was a cute place, but like she said earlier, not big enough for her, Nora, and two babies. As I looked around, I smiled at the pictures of her and Nora she had on the fridge. There was no way I was going to let someone, biological parent or not, take Nora away from her. It was clear to anyone that saw them together that Thea was her parent, not Peter Kenwood.
I looked into the living room and smiled again at Thea. She was telling Nora goodnight.
“Good night baby. I’ll see you in the morning okay?” I said softly, smiling as she talked.
I knew from here on that these were my girls. I wasn’t going to let anyone take them away from me.
Please let me know what you think! I'm currently writing the next chapter so hopefully it'll be up soon. I already have the twins named picked out, I'm hoping you guys like them. If you have any ideas for the gender reveal I would love to hear them!

I Care About You
Tumblr media
Masterlist
x female reader
Y/n knew working with five -0 meant she would probably get shot one day, but she was not happy that that day was today. She was already having an awful week, hell an awful month. Ever since she had broke things off with Danny Williams she’d been a mess.
Here she was sitting in the hospital while the team was still trying to track down the murder suspect who had also shot her. All she was thinking about was how much she wished she could call Danny, but she couldn’t. She was the one that got scared after their first big fight and ran off, she was the one that would barely talk to him in the office.
Danny had been on a tail of the shooters partner on the other side of the island when y/n had been shot. She wasn’t even sure if he knew what happened, or even cared.
Right as she let the idea of Danny not caring over take her mind, her door swung open. Her head shot up to she a panicked Danny enter the room.
“Danny” she whispered
“Hey babe” he breathed out, walking to her slowly like he was afraid she’d run.
“Wha-what are you doing here Danno?” She said, trying to sound nonchalant when all she wanted to do was run into his arms.
“Why wouldn’t I be here y/n? When Steve told me what happened, I... I needed to be here with you. I care about you y/n, more than you know.”
She tried to fight back the tears but they burst through at his words and she couldn’t take it anymore.
“No no no don’t cry, shhh you’re okay y/n/n” Danny said as he moved to her side wrapping her up in his arms.
“I’ve just missed you so much!” Y/n managed to whisper. Yes she saw him practically everyday, but they barely talked for weeks.
Danny placed a kiss to her temple and waited for her to go on.
“I- I was wrong! I shouldn’t have pushed you away. I just got so scared Danny, I got so scared I’d lose you and pushed you away and now I’ve lost you and it’s all my fault.”
She finally fell apart and let out every thing she’d been thinking for the past month.
“You haven’t lost me y/n. You’ll never lose me babe.”
She finally looked up at him, as he moved his hands to cup her face.
“Y/n I don’t want to scare you more but, I love you.” His confession made her heart swell! “I love you so much it hurts, and I’m sorry it took you getting shot for me to tell you that but I do. I know your scared, I am too y/n/n but I would die before I hurt you!”
Y/n tried to speak but nothing came out. That’s all she had wanted to hear him say for months. She let her emotions take over as she pulled him into a kiss she’d been longing for since she walked out of Danny’s home all those weeks ago.
She pulled away reluctantly and nuzzled her self in to him.
Danny pulled her into a tight hug and sighed. “Should I take you not running again as a good sign or is that just cause your kinda stuck here?” He said pointing to the medical equipment next to y/n’s bed that she was hooked up to.
“I think kissing you is pretty opposite of running away Danno...”
“Yeah well...” he said looking a down and seeming but less confident.
“Danno?” Y/n said, putting her hand on his cheek.
“Hmm?” He hummed leaning into her touch and looking back up at her.
“I love you so much!”
Danny let out a breath he’d been holding in since he confessed his feelings.
“God, I could get used to hearing that” he said as he kissed her forehead
“Good!” She said with a smirk “I don’t think I’m gonna get tired of saying it... ever!” She said as she moved over to give him room to sit with her.

Christmas Surprise
A/N: @playbucky Xmas challenge
Summary: You and your boyfriend decorate a Christmas tree and have a couple of surprises
You and your boyfriend are currently decorating your guys Christmas tree. Normally his kids would be helping but Grace if off at college and Rachel took Charlie to England for Christmas.
Danny was bummed that he wouldn’t see either of the kids on Christmas, and that it wasn’t all of you guys decorating the tree. So while you guys have been decorating the house you have been trying to cheer him up.
You guys finally got done decorating everything but the tree, so you guys are going through boxes looking at stuff for the tree, that’s when you find the funniest thing that you have ever seen. It’s a photo ornament Danny at 14 or 15 wearing parachute pants and he has a Mohawk.
So you hold it up to your boyfriend who is not paying attention and say “babe how come I have never seen your parachute pants and Mohawk stage” and you are dying of laughter at that point.
Danny’s head whips around the fastest you have ever seen it whip around. He looks at the photo and says “where the hell did you find that” and he tries to grab it from but your to quick and you jump and grab your phone to take a picture. He sees what you are trying to do and says “babe don’t you dare take a picture of that” and he is trying to hold in his laughter and look upset.
You two struggle for it and at this point you are both dying of laughter but you manage to get it long enough to take a picture of it on your phone and send it to the Five-O group chat.
Danny pretends to be mad at you but you know that and made him happier than he had been all day. You guys are drinking spiked eggnog so you guys are also a bit tipsy but this is the most fun the two of have had in awhile.
After putting all the ornaments up including the one of Danny, which took a long time to convince him to let you put it on the tree, while your looking at the tree Danny comes up behind you and hugs you from behind and says “thank you for doing this with me babe I love you” You turn to him kiss him then say “of course, I love you too”
After you two just stood there hugging for a minute Danny looks at you and says “now will you do the honors of putting the star on the tree” you smile and say “I would love too”
After you put up the star Danny goes into the bedroom to get something and you are picking stuff up when you see a giant red bow in a box that has never been used, you then see your red headband you have and make a plan.
Danny walks out of the bedroom and the first thing he notices is that you’re on the floor then he sees a red bow on your head and he smiles and asks “Why is there a bow on your head?” you smile from where you are sitting next to the tree and say “because I’m your present”
He bursts out laughing and says “you are on hell of a gift to have” you smile at his sweetness and say “why thank you, you aren’t so bad yourself” he smiles and lifts you up effortlessly and kisses you.
You guys stay like that for awhile then he starts walking with you in his arms, he sets you down on the kitchen counter. He looks at you and hopes this is the right decision.
He gets down on one knee, you gasp and he starts talking “y/n McGarrett I never thought I would want to get married again but then you came into my guns blazing just like your brother only this time I fell in love instantly. You are the light at the end of my tunnel you complete me my kids love you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me y/n I love you so much will you marry me?”
Your silently crying and you’re so shocked you can’t talk so just nod your head and then finally manage to say “yes yes yes I’ll marry you. God Danny I love you so much” he kisses slips the ring on your finger and you guys are just hugging and crying happy tears and just enjoying the moment.
Then the moment is ruined when your brother walks into the house and looks at you guys in disgust and says “pda much” you and Danny look each other and at the same time you guys say “it’s our house!”
Your brother rolls his eyes then sees the ring on your finger and then looks at the two you and smirks and says “I guess you finally popped the question” you look at Danny with wide eyes and ask “he knew?” Steve rolls his eyes and says “everyone at Five-O except you knew” you look at Danny and he shrugs and says “I’ve never been good at keeping a secret” you smile and look at your brother and your now fiance and know you are blessed to have this life.

Stepping Into New Waters: Hawaii Five-0 Fandom
Turns out I fall in love very easily.
So here I am with a Steve McGarrett X Reader Fic.
It's going to be up in a few hours.
I wrote it essentially in the dead of the night so it’s mostly from the most wretched corners of my heart.
I know I am really late to this party, but I hope on building up a taglist sort of situation with it.
Tumblr media
Let me bribe you guys with this uniformed hunk of holy hotness.
HMU if you want to be on the taglist.

Save Me | Danno Williams One Shot
Tumblr media
requested by: anon a/n: this is two requests merged into one. we hope you like it! warnings: violence, blood, heat exhaustion, swearing words: 1,912
You still hadn’t gotten used to the Hawaiian heat, or rather the humidity. It was almost the opposite of what you were used to, oh how you missed the crisp mornings of D.C. It had been three months since the transfer had happened, you went from working for the FBI based in the capital city of America to a small task force in Hawaii. Sure, they had a rep of bringing down some high profile perps, but you still held a bias.
The fan in the room did almost nothing to cool the room, the heat was almost unbearable and coupled with the humidity, it felt like you were slowly boiling alive. It didn’t help that Detective Danny Williams or as Steve called him, Danno, made it his mission to remind you how poorly you and the heat interacted.
“Feeling a bit warm?” He snickered from across the room.
It was a rare day that the team didn’t have any active cases, but they had plenty of paperwork to catch up on. You growled at him from your seat as you wiped sweat from your brow for what seemed like the millionth time. Kono and Chin snickered from their own perches, the two found your bickering as a free form of entertainment. The only person who detested it as much as you did was Steve, but alas he was out at a meeting with the Governor.
“I swear Williams, I’m gonna put my foot so far up your a—“
“That’s enough, you two,” Chin intervened with a chuckle, you looked at him with a glare to which he smiled in return. You grumbled to yourself. Danny always got the last word during squabbles, though it may have been due to you always escalating them. Though it was well known to him and the team that you had a short fuse and a tendency for violence, it was one of the things that made you such a good operative.
“I’m gonna buy some bears, you guys want any?” You asked pushing back in your seat. Both Kono and Chin declined politely, Danny of course asked for one of the most expensive brands, you responded by giving him the finger.
You made your way to your car, feeling faint and nauseous. The world began to slant, your balance going askew. It was at the moment when you felt two strong arms wrap around your gut. They gripped you tightly as you struggled to break free, the effects of the heat immensely decreasing your self defence abilities. Another attacker approached, dressed all in black making you feel more nauseous than before. This one proceeded to strike your temple, followed by several hits to the gut and face. The metallic tang of blood and pain in your nasal region made you assume your nose had been broken.
You spat the blood from your mouth, hoping most of it would land on the attacker. You resorted to screaming for help. The attackers took that as the signal to drag you to a waiting van, and as they did so you saw Danny and Chin emerge from the front entrance, confusion followed by horrified understanding written across their faces. You desperately tried to break free, but the arms holding you were steel. The last thing you saw before being shoved in the vehicle was Danny charging towards you, screaming your name with an emotion you had never seen associated with yourself.
You spat more blood which had been filling your mouth in the face of your kidnapper, he was a well known human and arms trafficker, Albert Yonst. He had three different warrants for his arrest from three different countries and had a list of victims longer than the Declaration of Independence. He remained silent, but slapped you across your already bruised face, your left eye swollen shut, lip cut, plus your nose which was almost certainly broken.
“What do you want with me, Yonst?” You asked plainly, ignoring the sharp pain in your lungs that increased when you spoke. He looked unimpressed, Albert almost waddled to a table to his right, picking up something she couldn’t see.
“What do you know about Daniel Williams?”
“Nothing.”
“Really? Because my boys know for a fact that you and him are on that little task force. So start talking, or I’m gonna start having a lot of fun with little baby.” The threat added to by him showing you the knife in his hand, the blade was just longer than his palm. You could tell it was incredibly sharp.
“I don’t know anything. I swear!”
“Well forgive me if I don’t quite believe you. Now one more chance, or I get to have a little play.”
“Screw you, asshole.”
When you awoke, you had forgotten what had transpired, jumping in shock at the sight of the warehouse. Groaning at the many cuts and slashes that now adorned your body like a destroyed canvas. You had refused to scream as he had mutilated you, giving him that would be the last thing you’d do - with where you were, it probably would be. You turned your head, taking note of possible exits that you could take if you ever managed to slip off the ties around your wrist.
As you wriggled in your constraints, the side door of the warehouse slammed open, hope surged through you thinking it was the team. But alas it was one of Albert’s goons, a gun held by his side, his expression told you something was going awry. More shouting could be heard due to the open door, the men must have been fighting amongst each other. Albert then stormed in, his abnormally large head had gone entirely red.
“Grab her and get her to the other safe house.”
“Boss-“
“WHAT?!”
“The other warehouse’s already been raided by the feds boss.”
“FUC—“ He was cut off by the sound of gunfire, followed by more shouting. You couldn’t help but smile, knowing that the team had found you at last. That smile must have rubbed Yonst the wrong way because the next thing you knew he had pulled you to your feet. The positioning was odd, for you still had a chair attached to your back. He pulled you along with him, planning to use you as a human shield against the team.
“HANDS UP, YONST!” Steve’s familiar authoritative voice called out from behind, Yonst roughly grabbed you by the arm, pushing you slightly in front of him. Shoving his pistol to your temple, it was warm, almost hot against your skin, it had recently been fired. “Let her go Yonst, you have nowhere to run!”
“Who said I was gonna run?” He spat, pushing the barrel harder against the skull causing you to cry out in pain. Both Steve and Danny made a move to step forward. “Uh, uh, uh…You two stay there, call of your men. Get me a car, I’ll take this one with me, then if I feel like it I’ll dump her out of the car for you to find.” Danny moved forward again, but was stopped by Steve. They seemed to be arguing, but you were so out of it you could barely make out their words. Steve pulled out his phone and made the arrangements, all the while Danny kept his eyes on you, his eyes full of pain and desperation.
Then you were shoved into the passenger side of a range rover, Yonst in the driver’s seat and turning on the ignition. He drove like a maniac down the road with his gun still in hand. Every minute or so he would look over his shoulder, trying to see if anyone was following them. It was during these moments that you took your chance. You lunged for the wheel…
It wasn’t the constant beeping from the various machine’s that were making sure you were alive, no. It was Detective Danno Williams arguing on the phone with Steve. To be fair, he was trying to stay calm, but calm and Danny weren’t exactly compatible.
“I said I’d call you when she wakes up! She’s not up so stop calling.” He whisper-shouted down the line, his hand running through his hair, which was uncharacteristically untidy. “I’m not overreacting, Steve—I’m hanging up now, I’m hanging up.” He growled, coming close to actually raising his voice.
“Steve’s a bother, ain’t he?”
“Yeah, he wont shut—” He froze, realising that you had just spoken and that you were now in fact awake. He let out a relieved laugh, rubbing his face as he walked to your bedside. He held onto the railing as he looked down at you.
“What-how…? We found the car flipped over…you’d been ejected from the car, how you survived the doctors can’t tell. How you aren’t crying out in pain, I don’t know.” You hadn’t even noticed the pain, but the mentioning it caused it to set in, making you grind your teeth.
“Do you think you could press the nurse button? I need some morphine.” He didn’t reply, just following your request. “Is Yonst…Is he alive?”
“Yeah, lucky bugger practically walked away from the entire thing. He’s in prison licking his wounds.” You nodded, happy that he had been brought to justice. You then noticed a look in in Danny’s eye.
“Are you okay Williams?”
“When I saw them take you, I couldn’t get to you in time.”
“Danny…”
“I couldn’t save you, I couldn’t save you after I realised…”
“Realised what?” He didn’t have to answer, the look in his eye became clear as day. His actions, quips, everything came into focus. All pointing to one emotion that adequately fit the look on his face at that moment. “Oh…” You muttered, surprise evident in your voice. It must have given him the wrong idea, due to him pulling back from the bed. “Don’t.” You whispered, making him pause but not meet your gaze. “Don’t pull away Danny. I didn’t realise either, not until just now really. I get it, you couldn’t save me from Yonst, but you can still save me.” That made him meet your eyes, confusion evident.
“You can save me from Kamekona’s chilli. You can save me from awkward talks with Chin about football when it’s obvious I don’t know what he’s saying. You, you can save me from the goddamn heat of this island. You can save me from myself, Danny. So save me. Please, save me.” He laughed during your speech, so did you, it hurt like a motherfucker but you laughed regardless. The room for a moment was full of laughter, before returning to silence but a comfortable one. Then it was as if timed slowed, Danny leant down, pressing his lips to yours. Everything then suddenly sped up, fast enough to be worried if you weren’t preoccupied. A primitive hunger stirred in your chest, the kiss turned from soft to hungry. Ignoring the pain in your body you tried to sit up to get closer to him but were halted by a lady’s cough.
You looked to the door of your room, to see a nurse with what you suspected to be your chart. She had an unimpressed look on her face, a look that made you remember you and Danny were at the moment. You felt heat rush to your cheeks, undoubtedly causing them to redden.
“You called?”

Congratulations || D.W
Requested by Anon - hiiiiiii xx i was wondering if you could danny williams request? my request would be the reader being pregnant and only she and danny know and she either ends up a hostage or in some kind of danger and he has to yell “don’t shoot.. she’s pregnant” and that’s how the force/everyone finds out? sorry it’s so specific. Characters – Danny x Reader Word Count – 474
3 months ago ‘Danny?’ You asked as you entered the house, he looked up from the tv and to you. When he saw your face, he got up quickly and he was at your side. ‘Hey, what is it?’ He asked, you his hands on either side of your face, moving stray strands out the way. ‘Whatever it is, you can tell me.’ He said, you looked at him. ‘I’m pregnant.’ You whispered, he froze. You looked at him as he searched your face, you were about to say something else but them a massive smile broke out on his lips. ‘You’re pregnant?’ He repeated, you looked at him and nodded. He placed his lips onto your and pulled back.
Now You chased the man through the yard, jumping over fences after him. Landing onto the cement, you looked at the way he was going, you heard the others coming behind you, so you continued following him. You followed him into an abandoned building, but you couldn’t he or see him, so you pulled your gun and started walking around.  You heard a noise behind you and turned, to be met with nothing, but when you turned back around. He was standing there. He hit you over the head, you dropped the gun, and before you cold react he had bent down and picked it up, holding it at you. You raised your arms, but his attention were on the footsteps that were coming through the building. ‘Sam Carter, drop the gun raise your hands.’ Steve shouted, him, Danny and Tami all entered their guns raised. When they stood in front of him, Sam pulled you into his chest and everyone raised their guns except from Danny. ‘Don’t shoot, she’s pregnant.’ Danny shouted, everyone looked at him and then at you. The statement that Danny just shouted cause the man, to loosen his grip on your neck. You took this as a chance to fling your head back, hitting his nose, he stumbled back, you grabbed the gun in his hand, twisting it out and pointing it towards him, as he held hid nose. ‘Down on the ground.’ You commanded, he looked at you before he listened. Steve walked over and handcuffed him, you holstered your gun.  ‘You okay?’ Danny asked, as he walked up behind you. ‘Yeah.’ You said into his neck. His hand on your hip. ‘Take it congratulations are in order?’ Steve said as he walked up to you, you pulled away from Danny his hand still on your waist. ‘Yeah.’ You smiled, he brung you in for a hug. ‘Well, I hope they take after you, instead of the grump behind you.’ Steve said, you giggled, and you stepped back to see Danny’s face. ‘Very funny.’ He said, as he grasped Steve’s hand and brung him in for a hug.

Irritable (Danny Williams x Reader)
Prompt: dickgrysvn said:
Hiiii it's rey again. First off, happy new year! Second, I was hoping you could write a Danny Williams x Reader where they have a mcdanno type relationship (like they bicker all the time) but then the reader gets hurt or gets put in danger or something and then its like angry/angsty confession time blah blah blah. In case you can't telll I love angsty love confessions lol. And your writing <3
Pairing: Danny Williams x Reader
Words: 2123
Warnings: Uh....mentions of death, arguing, mentions of human trafficking, possible cursing....Idk of anything else
Notes: Haha, I’m writing this about Danny’s shortness and all I’m thinking about is the similarity between Danny and Damian Wayne at this point...sorry, I’ve been obsessed with the batfam for a few days now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They never said when you were signing up to be a part of the Five-O Task Force, that you would have to deal with someone as insufferable as Daniel “Danny”  “Danno” Williams. You don’t understand why, but Steve decided it would be a good idea for you to be partnered with Danny until you learned the ropes of the team. Actually, you were paired with both Steve and Danny, although a lot of the time, Steve spent with Chin and Kono, leaving you alone with the short and angry Detective.
Okay...so you were shorter than Danny, but that’s not the point.
The point is that you don’t understand what you did to make the Detective hate you so much.
Currently, you were investigating a trafficking ring who took young women and girls from all across the islands and sold them to other countries as sex slaves and whatnot. You and Danny were tasked with talking to some of the ‘former’ trafficking men and women to see if any of them had any idea who was behind this current round of trafficking.
“Look, all I’m saying is that you should stay in the car,” Danny’s hands moved as he spoke and you glared at the man.
“Why? Because I’m a woman? I’m sure that if you were partnered with Kono you wouldn’t be telling her to stay in the car! I can take care of myself,” you yelled at him.
Danny’s face was heating up. He looked at you and you looked back, “I’m saying to stay in the car because this imbecile is not someone that you want to meet!”
“Whatever, Danny,” you growled out and stepped out of the car, making your way to the warehouse.
Danny cursed under his breath and followed you into the warehouse. He hated that you ignored everything he said. It was like he was partnered with another Steve McGarrett.
___________________________________________
After an uneventful chat with multiple traffickers, you and Danny were in a heated fight, walking into the office space of the team, “if you had let me talk to him before pulling out your weapon-”
“He wasn’t going to talk to you! We had to make him believe we’d shoot him if he didn’t talk,” you exclaimed and you both stopped in the middle of the room, not paying attention to the three pairs of eyes watching you both.
“We are cops, we don’t go around waving our guns in people’s faces,” he stressed, his hands moving wildly as he spoke, “and not to mention that when his friends pulled out their guns, you told them you’d shoot them in the balls if they tried anything! We don’t do that!”
“Sometimes you have to make threats you won’t follow to get the information you need out of them,” you glared at the man in front of you, having to look up slightly to see him, which annoyed you to no end.
“This is exactly how I got shot the first time I was partnered with Steven, he did things in a brash manner and I got shot! I am not going to allow you to put me in the same position,” his face was red from the bickering you two have done since you both got in the car from the last visit.
“Oh poor baby, quit your whining. You didn’t get shot,” you rolled your eyes and turned away from him.
“Don’t you turn your back on me, we’re not done talking,” Danny hissed and you turned back to face him.
“Correction, you’re not done talking. I am. You have any more complaints, stuff them up your ass,” you growled and walked to your office, going to sit in the chair and stare at your computer, looking up any leads you could get on the case.
Danny watched you and he could feel his anger building. He went to Steve and glared at him, “I can not work with her! Assign her to someone else,” he demanded.
“No can do, Danny,” Steve replied, a smirk on his face, “you’re the best role model for her,” he laughed.
“This is not funny, Steven, she is going to get me killed. Killed I tell you! Then, you’re not going to have me around to keep you from getting yourself killed, then you die and the team goes into disarray. Get where I’m going?”
Steve laughed again and shook his head. “Danny, you’re her mentor. Find a way to communicate with her instead of bickering. You need to get past everything else and get to a point where you can teach her. She’s not as bad as you make her out to be,” Steve stated, placing a hand on Danny’s shoulder.
Danny rolled his eyes and went to his office.
________________________________________
Steve and Danny were out on a lead as were Kono and Chin, leaving you in the Palace alone. You were continuing to research, seeing if you might be able to find a solid lead. You were just about to give up when something on the style and place of the kidnappings took place. You had a gut feeling and you raced out of The Palace, calling Steve as you got into your car.
“I have a lead. I’m heading there now,” you stated before Steve could say anything on the phone.
You heard a click, assuming Steve put you on speaker, “don’t go by yourself. Where is it, we’ll pick you up and-”
“No time, if I’m right, the next kidnapping is taking place in ten minutes. You are twenty away from the site,” you stated and your car tore down the road.
You heard Steve slam on breaks, “where.”
“The last kidnapping site,” you stated.
“On the way. Don’t engage until we get there.”
“If I see something, I’m acting,” you replied.
“For once, stop being so pigheaded and stupid, (Y/N)! Don’t do anything until Steve and I are there,” Danny groaned.
You hung up and pulled into a parking spot, looking at all the people milling around. No one was going to be kidnapped while you were watching.
A couple of minutes later, you saw what you were looking for, a young girl being lured away. You followed her at a distance and finally came to a warehouse. You pressed a speed dial and put it back in your pocket. You walked up to the warehouse and went in, following the sounds of girls crying.
You came to an opening where there was crying and you looked around quickly before looking at the girls. You walked between the cages, your attention momentarily not on anything but getting the girls out of the warehouse. “Shh, I’m here to help. I’m going to get you out of here,” you whispered and the girls quieted down for a minute before they screamed.
“Nice thought, but you’re not going to be getting out of here any time soon,” a voice sounded behind you before something connected with your head.
____________________________________________
You woke up with a headache. You wondered what you’d had to drink last night as you sat up and looked around. This wasn’t your room.
You were in a cage and you could see frightened girls looking at you through cage links. You got up, trying to get to the door, but was stopped by being choked by a collar around your neck. You tried to undo it, but there wasn’t anything to unhinge it by.
You felt your panic rise before you calmed yourself. You heard footsteps and a man you recognized from the lead you’d been searching popped into view, “you finally woke up. I was beginning to think I’d hit you too hard.”
“Let the girls go,” you stated.
“I don’t think you’re in any position to demand anything,” he chuckled, “it was stupid of you to come alone.”
“Save it, I’m going to hear it from my annoyance of a partner later,” you spat back.
“You’re never going to see them again,” his voice sent cold chills down your back, “the more you move, the tighter that collar gets around your neck. The more you fight it, the tighter it gets, until, eventually, you suffocate. Let’s see what happens first, do you die from suffocation or malnutrition?”
“Let’s see what happens first, you die when I get out of here, or when my friends show up.”
“Feisty until the end, good to know.”
He walked away and you messed with the collar, feeling it tighten against your neck. You stopped messing with it and tried to relax in the cage. Steve, Danny, Chin, and Kono would be here soon to get you...you hoped.
________________________________________
You don’t know how much time passed before you heard shouting and gunshots. You perked up and stood, moving to go to the cage door again, but reminded that you couldn’t by the tightening of the collar around your neck.
You coughed as you’re air supply was reduced for the first time. The door to the part of the warehouse you were in opened and a gun was pointed at you, “shoot me and I shoot your precious teammate.”
You saw Danny come through the door. He looked at you and you saw the anger in his eyes, “how about you put your gun down before I shoot you,” he growled.
“Danny,” you whispered, not able to fully speak with the collar as tight as it was. It started to get tighter and you looked at the man, seeing as he had a huge smirk on his face. “Can’t breathe,” you wheezed.
Your legs collapsed from under you and you hit the hard ground. “(Y/N)!”
You heard three shots and watched your tormentor hit the ground before you were on all fours, coughing and gasping, trying to get air into your body with the ever tightening collar around you neck.
The door to the cage was yanked open and Danny rushed in, kneeling beside you. He looked at the collar, not knowing exactly what to do, “listen here, you are going to calm down and everything will be alright. You keep breathing,” at your wide, but glaring eyes, Danny groaned slightly, “don’t look at me like that! You will be able to breathe, I promise...but if you had just listened to me, you wouldn’t be in this mess! You should have waited! I swear, you’re always getting yourself into trouble and maybe that’s what I love about you, but can you give me a day off?!”
Your arms shook, your left arm gave out and Danny grabbed you before you fell. He brought you against the side of the cage. He had you tucked under his arm, “STEVE,” he yelled. He knew the Seal would have a way to get you out of the collar. “STEVE,” he shouted again and the Seal bounded into the room, immediately sprinting to you and Danny.
“(Y/N), I need you to calm down,” you hadn’t realized but your were slightly thrashing and tears were falling down your face. “I promise you that I’m going to get this collar off, but I can’t if you’re thrashing around,” he stated and you tried to calm your movements, but all you could think about was the fact that you couldn’t get air into your lungs.
Danny started whispering things into your ear as he tried to calm you down. You focused on the sound of his voice and felt yourself start to calm down.
________________________________________
You walked to the main lobby of the hospital and stood, looking for your ride. Even with the Doctor’s insistence that you stay overnight for watch over any damage that might have been done to your neck, you signed yourself out and were now waiting on a very unhappy Danny Williams to pick you up.
You absentmindedly touched your neck and a lone tear fell down your face. You could have died.
You didn’t notice Danny approach you until you heard his soft voice, “you know, when we couldn’t find you, I panicked. I thought the worst...that you’d been caught and killed...and that almost happened.”
You turned towards Danny and, you don’t know why, but you wrapped your arms around him and the second your head hit his chest, a quiet and broken sob left your mouth, “I thought he was going to actually going to be able to kill me,” your voice still wasn’t recovered from the assault on your neck.
“I know…” Danny trailed off. He backed away from you, gently leaning your head up so your eyes met his, “don’t do that to me again,” he whispered and leaned down, placing a soft and gentle kiss on your lips.

Part One
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had been completely silent since you’ve gotten in the car. Danny was simply radiating anger and frustration. At this moment, you thought it best to give him at least a few minutes, to cool off. It wasn’t hard considering the island was just filled with beauty, besides the gorgeous man driving one of your best friend’s car, “Danno,” you said in your sweet voice.
You knew your voice had a way of calming Danny down, “Yes, Y/N?”
His voice immediately softened, looking back at you with this face of care, “If this is your car, why is Steve driving it?”
Clearly you couldn’t wait very long to tease him more. The smile dropped from his face and turned into a frown as soon as Steve snorted, “Because this animal has control issues,” he slapped Steve’s arm.
“Control issues,” Steve questioned, “Why do you have to make up such lies in front of a lady?”
“What,” Danny turned to Steve, his face getting red, and voice rising, “First, she is no lady, she could out man any male. And second, lies – if I’m not lying, then why do you always have to drive my car? How do you explain that?”
Steve’s hands left the steering wheel, “Is it wrong for me to spoil a friend, I’m chauffeuring you around. I want you to feel special.”
“Well, that’s just hogwash,” Danny said to Steve, “Keep your hands on the wheel, you idiot.”
You slapped Danny’s arm, “Hey, you apologize to your partner.  Say two nice things!”
Shaking his head, tapping his hand on the dash, “Not that, Y/N, I’m not doing that, I’m not a child.”
“Daniel Williams,” you say with a stern, slow voice, “Say two nice things. Now.”
He looked back at you, while Steve watched in amazement at this phenomenon. Rolling his eyes, “Fine,” he did this long stare at Steve. He took a deep breathe and waited a moment to think of something nice. You kicked his chair, “Steve, you’re very kind for not trying to get me killed daily, though sometimes you don’t try hard enough. And you aren’t terrible to my kids.”
“Wow, Danny, that’s awfully nice of you,” Steve looked at him, “Had to dig real deep for those,” he mocked him. He looked back at you, “Two nice things, huh?”
You shrug, “Yeah, words are can be harmful, Danno knows that.”
He nodded his head, laughing a little. Danny just shook his head, trying to calm himself down again.
Pulling up to Steve’s, you bounded out before Danny could move out of the way, his chest smashing to the dash as the seat moved up, “No, Y/N, please you first.”
You spun, kissing him on the cheek, “Love you Danno,” you squeeze him, as he tries to get out of the vehicle, “Thanks for letting me stay with you.”
Steve steps out and watches over Danny’s car. He was in total amazement of your effect on Danny Williams. As soon as you hugged him, Danny’s disposition changed completely. The banter, the teasing, it didn’t matter. Danny Williams turned into complete mush, “Doll, you know I love having you,” he pulled you back to look at you, “Now, come on, this guy over here promised us some barbecue and beer.”
You got to meet everyone associated with the task force you’ve heard so much about. And everyone was so welcoming, it was like nothing you ever felt – instant family. The William’s knew your mother, which is why Matthew and you were close, you played together as children. Over time, they grew to be your only family. Here it was quick, you patted Kono on the arm, “I’m going to grab another beer,” she nodded at you.
You made your way closer to the house, reaching for the cooler. Steve beat you to it, “For you,” he passed it to you.
“Thanks commander,” you grabbed the beer.
“Steve, please,” he waved you off, walking around the cooler to lean against a tree. He was staring down at you smirking, “How’d you convince Danny it was safe to leave you here? He left muttering threats to me.”
You laugh, “It was a combination of the kids pleading to see me and the protection of Eric,” you wave to his nephew in the distance, who was staring at you like you were food, “Lucky for Eric, Danno doesn’t know Eric has had the biggest crush on me for years.”
“I’m not surprised, a beautiful, funny, intelligent woman like yourself,” he watched your reaction as he said this, “Poor boy didn’t stand a chance against your charm.” Blush creeps all over your face and you grow quiet, laughing nervously and looking towards the group of people, “Look at this,” he stood straight to look at you, “This whole flirty thing, it’s a rouse just to get under Danno’s skin,” he chuckled, “I’m shocked.”
“What, I’m a shy kid from Jersey,” looking down at the sand, “Said no one ever,” you laugh again. “If I’m being honest, I don’t really have experience with flirting for my own benefit. Danny let me have one boyfriend for about three weeks. Other than that, flirting is just another way to bother my protective big brother.”
Laughing at the statement, Steve nods, “Your relationship with Danny is not like one I’ve ever seen. Not even with his own sisters or Gracie does he turn into this mushy guy. You have that man wrapped around your finger.”
You shrug, sipping your beer, “I don’t really have family, so he takes pity on me.”
“I think it’s more than that,” he comments.
“Puh-lease, Danno Williams does not have a crush on me. That’d be weird,” you shake your head, “Hell is more likely to freeze over with flying pigs flapping around.” You sigh, scratching the back of your neck, “After my mom disappeared, I didn’t have anyone, but the Williams’. Matty saw me as a convenience, someone no matter what he said or did would be there for him, again and again. My kindness and naivety were often taken advantage of with Danny’s little brother. And now, I have no one but him, he sees that.”
“Is that, that psychology degree of yours,” he grinned down at you. He admired how you could talk about your past with such lightheartedness and with barely knowing him. It meant you felt at home.
“Yes, sir,” you smile. Something grabs your attention from the door, you know Danny is here with the kids closing in on you. You wink at McGarrett, “No, it’s amazing. It’s called the pray mantis because the girl has to bend her leg,” Steve’s eyebrows shot up, instantly intrigued and amused.
]“Hey-o,” Danny yelled, covering his daughter’s ears, “Y/N, the mouth around the children.”
He tried to drag Gracie away, “Danno, Auntie Y/N,” she whined trying to get back to you.
“No, Auntie Y/N needs a timeout,” Danny looked back at you.
Steve raised his hand, “You know partner, I’m happy to-,” he started to smile with a shit eating grin.
“Don’t,” Danny yelled back, “Steve,” he growled, his voice lowering, “Don’t finish that sentence, if you care about your life.”
You laugh with Steve at the very red Danny, “That’s alright Danno, I have a long time to catch up with Auntie Y/N.”
“Excuse me,” he looked down at his daughter, “What do you mean?”
“She just got a job at the University of Hawaii,” both Danny and Steve shot you an expression.
Chugging your beer, “Gosh, the sun is setting. Gracie, let’s get Charlie and watch it, huh,” you grip her shoulder, steering her in the direction of the water, “Girl you outed me to your dad,” Gracie whispered a sorry before you both quickly ran away.
Danny just watched in amazement, “I’m not sure what to feel, happy or ambushed?”
“I know what I feel,” Steve looked at his partner, he was going to love using this to tease his partner more, “I think I’m in-.”
Pointing up at his partner, “Don’t say another word, you, overgrown cartoon character.”
Eric strolled up, putting his arm around Danny, “What a beauty,” he said looking at you. Danny tossed his arm down, “McGarrett, you are one lucky son of a gun. That sexual tension between you and Y/N, I mean,” he whistled, “If I was you,” he tried to continue, “I’d-.”
Danny growled loudly, tossing his hands in the air, “She’ll be the death of me,” he stomped inside.
You looked back, smiling at Steve. He realized he had to go cool off his partner, reason with him about his ‘little sister’ playing games on him, and why Danny should be happy to have her on the island. He stopped after taking a step in the direction of Danny, “She paid you to say that,” he asked Eric, “Didn’t she?”
“Twenty bucks,” he smiled at Steve, “For her though, I would have done it for free,” he smiled, glancing at his pacing uncle.
Again, Steve looked back at you playing with Danny’s kids and Jerry joining the gang in the sand. He had a feeling you would be a good thing for this island.

Homecoming Surprise
Words: 675 Summary: You come home and decide to surprise your boyfriend. A/N: Sorry it’s been so long since the last story. I’m really struggling to write lately. I’m hoping it’ll get better soon. Also, I’m thinking about taking requests, let me know what you think..… Enjoy!
You look in Steve's office to see an empty desk, but you aren't surprised. You hadn't called to let him know you'd be stopping by, after all you'd wanted to surprise your boyfriend of 3 years. You check Danno's office, which was also empty. You surmise that they must be on a case, when the door to the 5-0 offices opens and Grover walks in. His eyes widen when he spots you standing next to the computer.
"YN. You're back!" He pulls you into a hug as soon as he reaches you.
"Hey, Lou." You greet with a smile, patting his back before stepping back.
"Danno and Steve are out working a case." Grover explains. "Do they know you're here?"
"I figured, and no, not yet. I wanted to surprise Steve." You shrug.
"When did you get back?" Grover asks, seeing how exhausted look.
"About two hours ago. Haven't even gone home to change." You respond, gesturing to your uniform.
"Well, I'm not sure how much longer the boys'll be out, so take a nap in Steve's office. I'll let him know you're there when they get here." He suggests.
"Thanks, Lou. I'd appreciate it." You answer, looking forward to a small nap, almost as much as seeing your boyfriend at this point. You hug Grover one more time before heading to the comfy looking couch in Steve's office.
Danno leads his partner towards their offices, "No, we can't do that without a warrant, Steve. We do have to follow some policies."
Steve shakes his head at him affectionately, "Yeah, but then we might lose the-"
"Boys, you mind keeping your little argument down?" Grover interrupts. He has a smile on his face, thinking about Steve's reaction to finding out you're home.
"What's up, Grover?" Steve asks his friend. Usually the man didn't care how loud they got.
"Buddy, you may want to go in your office to find out. There's someone there to see you." Grover shoots a "stay here" look at Danno.
Steve tilts his head in confusion before looking in his empty office before doing what Grover suggested. As he opens his door, he looks on his couch and stops. He turns back to Grover, eyebrows raised in surprised at the sleeping figure on his couch. Grover just nods in response. Steve strides over to you and sits back on his feet in front of you. He gently brushes some loose hair from your face. As you begin to stir, Steve's grinning face is the first thing you see.
"Surprise?" Your tired voice croaks.
"This is one of the best." He responds before helping you sit up and pulling you into his chest. "Did you come straight from the ship?"
"Yeah. Didn't wanna go home till I saw you, babe." You murmur, keeping your face in his chest. "How about we go home? The case will hold until tomorrow, it's five anyway." Steve suggests, wanting to get you home and relaxed.
"Let me say hi to Danno, then I'd like nothing more to go home, sit on the couch- not in uniform- and catch up on the things I've missed." Steve releases you from his hug but keeps ahold of your hand. Now that you're back, he doesn't plan on letting you go anytime soon. It'd been a long deployment for the both of you.
He tugs you out towards the two team members that had been watching your reunion, with smiles on their faces. “I am taking her home; we’ll pick this up tomorrow. It’s time for everyone to head out and refuel for tomorrow.” He keeps ahold of your hand as you make your way over to the man that’s like a brother to you. “Danno. It’s nice to see Steve hasn’t killed you yet.” You laugh and hug him in greeting. “Hey!” Steve objects from behind you.
“No kidding. Hopefully, he’ll relax a little with you being home.” He whispers in response, chuckling. “Now get him home and let him help you relax. You deserve it. Welcome home, YN.”

Danny tries to set Steve and you up on a date, but it doesn’t go exactly as planned.

Author’s note:  Idk about this, but I love Danno & his irritable good heart.
2.8k words | ♫ Playlist: maybe you (good night remix) - say lou lou
______________________
Danny Williams contorted his face in the way that was reserved for his disgust with some aspect of current humanity and it made you burst out laughing. You had agreed with the sentiment, but you could never take your sudden emotions and outwardly form them to be so entertaining. He turned to you with that look on his face that said ‘What is so amusing, babe? It’s the truth.’
The air was sweet in your lungs. It was a really lovely evening. The music playing was a great playlist, the karaoke goers weren't annoying, and the overall energy and ambiance in the place was sparkling, like a pretty firework you wanted to watch float down. You were having a good time, free from the things you still had to do, and anything else that could distract you from the present moment. Something still felt missing, though. Because someone was... McGarrett.
A faint vacantness was always around when he wasn’t. You tried not to think about it much, because you knew that overthinking things never yielded much of anything good. The longer his presence infiltrated and somehow contaminated your life, though, every time you happened to re-check in on that vague idea you avoided, it had managed to become more detailed and more difficult to push away. It was practically a sinkhole now, waiting to collapse and pull you in.
You saw the tiger man’s gait, through the crowd of people casually chatting and meandering about. It stuck out, it always did, like a predator in a forrest’s clearing. McGarrett always had a tenacity with each step. Like he had the most efficient path, straight to you and no one could stop or deviate him from getting there. If you were a bad guy, it was very bad news. But if you weren’t, it was reassuring in a way. Relief was filling in those dug out places in your heart. Suddenly, however, the safety you found burst like a C-4 charge just detonated. There was another person walking beside him. She had glowing skin, a cool dress that fit well, and openly gazed at the commander in a way that made you feel sick to witness.
It stung, the pain surprising even you. It was if you unexpectedly ran into a wall and got multiple fractures. But bones weren't the thing that were broken in this case. You swallowed the ache running up from your ribcage, realizing that you had fallen into what you purposefully had cordoned off. You couldn’t get out of the idea-- the idea that you could’ve been the one beside Steve, dressed all nice together, some picture perfect scene from a romcom. You couldn’t deny it anymore, acceptance had beaten you and won. This newfound understanding wasn’t freeing, though, it had trapped you. These feelings were stuck pulling at you with other new ones sprouting up, like quick climbing vines with thorns. There was nothing you could do about it. You cut open yourself, and hollowed everything out, shifting into damage control, as you plastered on a fake smile.
“What took you so long, brah?” Kamekona asked, “Being on time demonstrates to all those around you, you value theirs.”
“There was traffic, and I was meeting up with someone beforehand,” Steve explained as he gestured an introduction, working hard for the audience who hadn’t expected this part of the show, “Everyone, this is Lynn.”
The table gave a general welcome, with supervised yet still kind hellos and smiles. You didn’t think anyone else was as bothered by this surprise guest as you had been. But little did you know...
Danny had arranged this get together at the Sheraton, his second favored locale for controlled social settings aside from the Hilton. But, there was no new girlfriend for him, or new "friend" of Grace's, or anyone else that required mingling in a group. This was just supposed to be drinks, dinner, and maybe some karaoke. For the detective, this was merely subterfuge to finally get two of his friends to admit what they refused to ever address out loud. Though, the subtext in both of your staring said plenty, Danny was trying to enact some good will in lieu of his standard complaining. Annoyance took up a lot of minutes in William’s typical day, but tonight, he was aggravated. Aggravated because his idiot of a best friend brought a date. A date?! The schmuck who ignored him every other time he had suggested getting back out there before. A suggestion, Danny had stopped suggesting, ever since you joined the team. The detective knew him long enough to know how past derailed hurts left a deep wound despite Steve not talking about it. But Danny noticed how that wound slowly started to close up and heal after you entered the picture. Steven, however, was being a moron about this or in total denial. Probably both, Daniel ascertained to himself as he smoothed his hair back, hoping it’d magically work on his nerves too.
“Why don’t I get everyone some drinks, huh? Steve, come help me.” Danny ordered, giving McGarrett a look that on the surface seemed innocent enough, as he got up from the table.
“Steven, please,” the Jersey cop warned, and when he specifically started using formalities and manners, it was well known that underneath the pinstriped dress shirt, the detective 's heart was pumping enough oxygen to effectively yet calmly disfigure someone if they disobeyed.
Steve got up slowly, and a few steps away, Williams started pulling at the man’s rolled shirt sleeves, encouraging the SEAL to pick up the pace to chat in a less busy area of the bar, like an impatient parent embarrassed by their kid acting out in public.
“I,” the blonde man said, pointing to himself for emphasis, “Invited you to this outing– solely you,” then there was another now reversed point, “Why did you bring a plus one?”
McGarrett eyed him, forming a confused reply with his own expression lines, as to why Danny was immediately giving him a hard time doing exactly what he harped on for so long.
“You’re being serious right now? This isn't some fancy RSVP'd dinner reception, Danny. It's drinks at Rumfire. What's the big deal?”
“Actually, it was an RSVP, because I asked you earlier this week, and you responded. And you responded without telling me that you were bringing a date. Then I re-asked, and you didn’t tell me then either.”
“And you think I have control issues?”
“You do have control issues,” Danny calmly and instantly retorted, but his friend was now busy ordering at the bar.
Steve turned back around, “Just relax. Don’t make this a big deal,” he reassured, as his eyes darted away from your silhouette he found first at the table. McGarrett distracted himself again by gathering most of the beers. He nudged the ornery shorter man on the shoulder, “Get the other drinks you wanted me to help you with, alright?”
Danny sighed fairly loudly through his teeth, chomping down on the inside of his own lip, before ushering himself back to the table. When he sat down his face grew concerned at how easily the mai tai was flowing from your glass less than a minute later.
The strong liquid was just a distraction, a consolation prize for you being pissed off. You took a heavy swig of the drink again, bordering on some non-assuming villain plotting and stewing as things went on. Soon Lynn joyfully got up to try some karaoke alone, unbothered at her failed attempt to get Steve to join her. She seemed genuinely nice, which made it all the more worse. There wasn’t even an excuse to dislike her.
“So, am I supposed to be leaving still or what?” Kamekona asked Danny, trying to be subtle but failing to be.
Your eyebrow arched, at the same time Steve’s raised. Danny had a mild aneurysm, mumbling, “What? No, no,” over and over.
“Nah, hoalohas, I think I’m still gonna leave.”
Danny jumped up and left the table, trying to reel back the shrimp truck magnate of the North Shore to save face. Now, it was only you and McGarrett… watching Lynn pick her song on stage to sing. Except, Steven’s eyes were somewhere else.
You heard his voice, undeviating, cutting through everything, “How’s the mai tai?,” his tone resembling when he egged Danny about something.
“Good.” You said curtly, still not looking at Steve.
He was surprised at your reaction, “You okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” You immediately replied again, finishing off what was left in your glass.
McGarrett didn’t answer, taking a sip of his own beer.
“This your first date with her?” You nodded in the direction of Lynn, who was now starting to sing, pretty well too, some old song you knew but you couldn't remember the title of.
“Second.” Steve corrected, quickly shifting his gaze back to you again.
You barely held back the sharp laugh that escaped your lips, mocking the reality you stupidly never asked about or thought could exist, “Cool,” you deadpanned.
“Are you jealous?” McGarrett abruptly asked, a smug smile faintly forming on his lips.
You scoffed, trying to overtly paralyze the nerve he hit, and the pain that went with it, as you went back to your drink forgetting it was now empty, “Why are you even asking me that?”
“Why don’t you just answer the question?” You could hear the stubborn amusement in his pauses, like he found a hold of something and wouldn’t let it go unless he won.
“Why don’t you?” You pushed back, turning to face him, a milder form of rage rising in your throat.
The hot air froze between you, everything else echoing out and away from the epicenter of you two. Your pairs of eyes were deadlocked, their dimly lit hues burning bright into one another's, setting off a fuse and the dejected unanswered what ifs behind them. Fears were smoldering, alongside the tension and boldness. The aggravation quickly melted away on your end. The anger and fading tipsiness unable to hide all the sadness you gathered in the loss you had now learned. Steve’s own eyes suddenly softened at the afflictions he saw surfacing in yours. You and McGarrett were still this weakening standoff, oblivious to what was happening around you. A certain bystander, however, couldn’t completely disregard the sight of your stares boring into each other's souls as she returned.
“How’d I do?” Lynn asked out loud.
“Huh, what?” Steve asked, confused, re-remembering his surroundings.
“You weren’t watching were you?” She gently questioned, already knowing the truth.
Steve awkwardly shifted in his seat, “I was, you uh, were really good! That’s a great song to pick!”
“What song was it?”
You got up from your seat, murmuring about grabbing another drink, your face hot from secondhand embarrassment as Lynn reluctantly sat back down next to McGarrett. On the way to the bar you ran into Danny who had been observing the whole exchange, and was now currently on route to intervene, more anxiousness flooding his hand movements.
“Where-- where are you going, Y/N?” Danny asked as you passed him. He turned on his heel to catch up to you.
“Daniel, don’t.” You sternly warned, trying to find a space in the crowding line at the bar.
“Hold on, wait,” Danny pleaded, catching your arm, “Talk to me, babe, please.”
You stopped and looked at your friend’s sincere eyes, and fretting forehead lines. You knew you didn’t need another drink. The onslaught of emotions was messing with you. Everything was brewing inside your head, like a rainstorm off the coast during monsoon season. You didn’t want to get stuck in the flood. You sighed, letting Danny be the voice of reason and pull you away to the outside patio.
You felt the cool breeze flow through your hair, tonight’s air no longer sweet, your throat still slightly burning. You didn’t say anything, crossing your arms, as you selected words in your head to prepare for the argument that stated you were fine.
“I can tell this surprise guest was sort of a shock to you too.” Danny quietly commented, fingers fidgeting against the railing as he spoke, “You wanna talk about it? I mean not that there’s something to talk about, but--”
“Danny,” you interrupted him, defeated, “I know you only wanted everyone to have a good time. I appreciate that. I appreciate you care. I’m just being weird about it.”
“Someone else is being stupid about it,” Danny blurted out under his breath, the irked truth disappearing into his sigh. He shook his head to himself.
“Hey, what happened to you guys?” Steve’s voice finding where you were.
“So, are we gonna order dinner now?” Steve asked as he approached, gesturing back towards inside. His nonchalant demeanor, especially in this case, was grating to both you and Daniel.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t start gnawing on the table legs. We’ll be there in a second,” Danny said with another parentified hand wave. He turned and knowingly shrugged to you when Steve turned back around to leave. You nodded to Danny and he placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder, waiting for you to move first. After a deep breath, you gave in, and headed back inside, Danny following beside you.
“Wait, what happened to Lynn?” Danny asked, processing the shift, and his increased blood pressure again, certain some blood vessel going to burst at this point.
“She, uh,” McGarrett scratched his chin, “decided to head home early,” he gradually admitted, his hand awkwardly illustrating the direction of her exit, before he crossed his own arms, inhaling a loud sniff through his nose.
“You’re a complete idiot, you know that right?,” Danny retorted after a quick beat, reaching his limit of exasperation at human interactions and having overall concern.
“For what?” McGarrett innocently questioned.
“Everything,” Danny said and shook his head again, hands gripping the back of the empty chair in front of him for some form of strength. He leaned forward and took a breath.
His voice was calm as he focused back to you and Steve, “I’m tired and done with this. Thank God everyone didn’t show up tonight or already left. And you, you’re paying the bill,” he pointed to McGarrett, before giving you a brief side hug, “I need to get away from here. Maybe I’ll run out into traffic. I don’t know. Goodnight to you insufferable people.”
“Aww, come on Danny,” Steve called out as the man left, “There’s still appetizers!”
His arms fell to his sides, before turning back to face you. You, like Danny, were still in some mode of processing everything that happened, just in a less dramatic or vocal way than the detective. You eyed Steve in his dark shirt, and jeans, how the fiery orange indoor lighting made his eyes a deeper green and his skin an even warmer shade. The next words from his lips as distinct as the five o’clock shadow on his jawline,
“I’m sorry.”
His voice was soft as he spoke the sentence, yet it maintained its brutality of honesty. You waited for him to continue.
“And, it’s not like I’d tell Danny this, but he’s right. I am an idiot.”
“For what?” You mirrored his prior phrase, your own voice uncertain with the feelings you were still trying to tie down.
“Well for starters, tonight,” he paused, before adding, “And for not asking this sooner, would you like to have dinner with me?” His lips formed a cautious smile.
“Yes,” you replied, your lips unable to hide your own grin, before continuing, “What else?”
Steve chuckled as he pulled out a chair for you to sit down. You took a seat, then he sat next to you. His body was more relaxed, no longer concerned with any camouflage. You two ordered your dinner, but you weren't going to let it go that easily.
“I’m still waiting for an answer.” You noted, intrigued, propping your elbows atop the table to rest your chin. You tilted your head at Steve, as you waited for his response, confidently and earnestly looking at the commander without hesitation or pretense.
A dorky yet completely charming smile spread across Steve’s face, as he raised his eyebrows, thinking, the warrior man’s eyes glinting in a way you hadn’t seen all night.
“For not doing this a long time ago,” he said, before he swiftly ducked his head and gently pressed his lips to yours. An unanticipated dreamy haze hitting you like a wave, despite the simple kiss. The restaurant busyness and room noise drifted away. You slowly opened your eyes, McGarrett’s ardent and proud expression encircling you. Reality filling in for what a related idea’s gaping hole had left you with. You could care less who was even around. The previous mess inside your chest was gone. Damn that tenacity, it carried through everything.
