Walk in the Woods
Prompt: Snow
Cas had been going through Facebook Events looking for something unique and fun to do. It hadn’t been that long since his first date with Dean at the coffee shop they both frequented. They weren’t even that far past the talking stage. Not that Cas wanted to rush things.
It was then he saw the event page, “Evening Lantern Walk through the Park.” The event was not far, just a few miles away at the local nature park. Cas was sure this would be a perfect thing for them to do together. He looked at the description and not only would there be a lighted path about one-quarter mile long, but also hot cocoa, a bonfire, decorations along the way provided by the community supporting a local charity, and an animal rescue would be present with a few of their birds on display. He clicked the button to “going” and had the entry added to his phone calendar.
 ~~~~~
“Hello, Dean,” Cas said later that afternoon, when they met for their weekly coffee date after work.
“Heya, Cas, have a good day?” replied Dean, taking off his jacket to sit at the table.
“Numbers are numbers, every day is the same,” countered Cas, “reports, accounting ledges, auditing, it never ends.”
“Same can be said about sales,” Dean looked down and groused, “product, pricing, place, promotion, people, it’s just one big wheel that never ends client to client.Yada, Yada, Yada. And we are the ones continuing to drive the company revenues that you have to keep track of.”
The waitress showed up just as the duo were starting to turn morose about their jobs with coffee and sweets orders. Cas enjoyed his Latte and Danish, while Dean his black, drip coffee and pie. They ate in silence.
Before things could get too stale, Cas looked up from his place and used his fork to point at Dean, “I’ve got an idea for an evening together if you’re up to it?”
“Sonofabitch, put that thing down before you poke someone’s eye out with it!” Dean exclaimed. “You, an idea for a date?” He grinned, “I’ve got to hear this, a museum?”
“No, I took your tastes into account. I know you don’t like all the documentaries I choose on movie nights.” Cas retorted.
“How about we get out of here and go back to my place?” Dean asked. “We can talk freely there, put on a movie, and put our feet up now that the work day’s over.” He motioned with his head to the parking lot.
“Lead the way,” Cas answered and reached to grab his coat off the back of the chair.
~~~~~
Once back at Dean’s house, Cas hung up his coat, put his keys in the bowl by the front door, and toed off his shoes. Dean came back out of the kitchen with two beers. One for each of them, and gestured toward the sofa.
“So what’s this date idea you have? Dean prompted Cas quizzically.
“There’s a lantern stroll at the nature park. I saw it on facebook,” Cas told him “it’s after work, they advertise cocoa, a bonfire, decorations along the trail made by locals to support a charity, and one of the wildlife rescues will be there with a few of their birds. It looks like a nice evening out.”
“That actually does sound fun, when is it?” Dean inquired.
“Next Friday and Saturday evening,” Cas told him. “I was hoping since it’s just Wednesday, we could go Friday?” He asked hopefully.
“Sure thing! What time do you want me to pick you up?” Dean asked, as he put his feet up on the coffee table.
“How about 5 o’clock? I’ll leave early to go home, so we don’t have my car left in the parking garage over the weekend. You can just come over as soon as you finish for the day,” Cas reasoned as he relaxed back into the cushions, thankful that Dean seemed just as excited about his idea as he was.
“I’ll message you the event page so you can take a look at it,” Cas said with a finality that ended the conversation.
They settled in to eat delivery pizza and watch Game of Thrones. Cas hadn’t seen the series before and the men were taking their time with it only watching one or two episodes a night. Cas was very emotional, behind his stoic looks he took the scenes to heart. He became very invested in the characters. When Dean had told him George R.R. Martin loved to torture just about every character, Cas hadn’t believed him. He did now.
On GoT nights Cas always ended up snuggled under Dean’s arm, squished right into his side, sometimes hiding his eyes in Dean’s shirt. Tears were not uncommon. Unlike some men, Cas was fully accepting of his range of emotions and not afraid at all to display them.
After the episodes were finished for the night and the popcorn, pizza, and beers were consumed, it was time to say goodnight. Cas finished putting on his shoes and jacket, then Dean pulled him by the labels into a tight hug, kissed his forehead, and wished him a good night. Cas was pleasantly pleased by the kiss and gave Dean a thousand watt smile. They have been hugging for a few weeks now, but this was their first kiss of any kind.
Cas silently loved Dean’s hugs. It was like he was the only one in the universe for those few moments. All Dean’s attention was focused on him. He always let himself melt while being held. He kissed Dean on the cheek in return, and with his keys in hand, turned and went out into the night to bide his time until their date on Friday.
~~~~~
Cas was waiting on his porch at 5pm on Friday when Dean’s impressively loud, purring V8 engine pulled into the driveway. It wasn’t particularly cold out, but it was the season for warm jackets, scarves, and gloves if you were going to be out for any length of time. Cas hadn’t been waiting long when Dean drove up.
“Heya, ready to go?” Dean asked after he stepped out of the driver’s door, “I think we’ll probably beat the crowds by going when it opens rather than waiting until later in the evening.”
“It’ll still be pretty either way, but I do like the idea of less people around,” Cas concurred, “I think the lanterns along the trail will give the trail a glow we won’t see when trees are full of leaves.”
“When have I ever turned down a bonfire and cocoa?” Laughed Dean.
“We haven’t known each other that long, Dean, but from what I can surmise of your character, I believe the answer would be never,” deduced Cas.
It was just a short drive across town to the park. Honestly, Cas didn’t even remember if the heater was blowing hot air out of the vents. Dean always had the windows rolled down just touch to keep the insides from fogging up. They were able to get a spot in the park’s visitors lot, which was surprising. Both men knew how popular events were here. But they did notice there was already quite a line. It was moving, meaning the event had already opened, but they weren’t the only ones to have the idea to go early in the evening.
As they started along the path the run started to dip below the trees meaning soon it would be dusk. The lanterns were always giving the paved hiking trail an ethereal glow. Every 15 ft or so a decorated wooden Christmas tree shape was decorated by different groups or organizations in the community. They raised money each year for a qualifying charity.
One of the first stops on the trail was a hot cocoa station. The men greedily took their cups as Cas took a small candy cane to put in his, while Dean took a small packet of marshmallows.
“Just hits the spot!” Dean hummed happily while holding the cup and bringing the smell of warm cocoa to his nose. “You heathen! A candy cane! In your cocoa? How could you?” He looked at Cas appalled.
“I like the peppermint flavoring the candy cane adds to the cocoa,” replied Cas shrugging his shoulders, “what's wrong with that?”
“Let’s keep walking,” Dean started down the trail again.. Cas was always so logical. Dean sometimes just wanted to play and have fun, but Cas didn’t get the jokes. It was sorta endearing, when he thought about it, frustrating, but endearing.. Dean mentally sighed and reminded himself that’s what movie nights were for, pop culture education.
They walked side by side, sometimes their hands or sleeves would brush. They enjoyed seeing the decorations provided by the community for a worthy cause and commented on them as they walked past. Ones they liked, a Nutcracker themed Christmas tree and a tree made of wrapped presents. On the other end of the spectrum, the ones they just didn’t like or plain didn’t understand. They guessed one was supposed to be a modern art take on Christmas, but none of it made sense to either of them. So they just kept walking. The next tree was made out of women’s shoes. At least that one was funny and made sense. Both of the men thought women wore too many different kinds of shoes.
“Who needed a dozen pairs of shoes anyway?” Cas just threw it out there while investigating the tree.
“Nobody I know, Dean answered, “not even the women in my family.”
Just at around the corner of the bend in the trail was the wildlife rescue tent. The rescue has brought three birds of prey, each damaged in some way and unable to return to the wild. A Barn Owl, that was hit by a car; a Great Horned Owl, also hit by a car; and a Harris Hawk, who had imprinted on humans, plus a wonderful interpreter discussing the breeds and all their different aspects. Cas was fascinated.
Cas was so intrigued by the information he didn’t notice that Dean had wandered over to the bonfire which was set up about 100 ft away from the rescue tent. The fire was roaring, warm, and with plenty of seating.
Dean was sitting on an empty bench just staring into the flames finishing up his cocoa. Cas came over and sat down, scooching up next to him for warmth. He noticed how much chillier it had become since they had arrived. The day had been cloudy, but he didn’t think anything of it.
Just then, as both men stared into the fire, their arms curled around each other and they intertwined fingers, a few single stray fluffy snowflakes started to fall out of the sky. They swirled in the air currents surrounding the fire. Dean looked over at Cas, who was laying his head on Dean’s shoulder. The white of the simple snowflakes in Cas’ hair was such a contrast that it gave the evening an even more magical feel.
Cas noticed the snowflakes gathering in scattered patterns on Dean’s green scarf, which stood out over his brown jacket. He too was thinking that the evening seemed more enchanting.
Right there, in front of the bonfire, Cas cupped the back of Dean’s neck and pulled him into a kiss. At first Cas meant for it to be a chaste, we’re-out-in-public-type, kind of kiss, but that decision was overruled by the warmth in his gut to kiss the man more passionately. Dean responded quickly, following Cas’ lead and then running his tongue over the seam of Cas’ lips asking for entry to explore his new boyfriend’s mouth.
The snow started to come down a bit more persistently  and they broke the kiss. Snow was getting in their eyes, ears, on their pants, and filling in their hair more. The evening had gained an ambiance neither of the two men expected. The lanterns were pretty, listening to the rescue and seeing the birds of prey was awe-inspiring, laughing and pointing at the inventive decorations was a nice touch to the walk, but it was the bonfire, cocoa, and the snow that really turned this date into something more.
Dean and Cas both thought the snow brought out the handsome features of the other and made them want more. Cas beat Dean to the punch in taking their relationship to a new level with the first real kiss. But it was Dean who asked to take Cas home to continue what they started at the bonfire.
As they did so back at Cas’ house, the snow kept falling down. The first snow of the year, in December, on their first planned date.
For they know exactly what they do
Today there was a pretty long article published in the German newspaper FAZ, written by Julia Schaaf. Since there were quite a few interesting topics raised in it and Måneskin talked about some new aspects (or in more detail), I translated the whole thing (it might also have helped me to procrastinate).
Full interview in English under the cut.
For they know exactly what they do
June 22, 2021
Four young rock musicians from Rome are today's hottest band. Måneskin are enchanting Europe. Why? We met them for an interview.
Every romance needs its founding myth, an anecdote from the beginning, something you can tell later in more difficult times for self-assurance.
In the case of the band Måneskin, who first had Italy and now half of Europe wrapped around their fingers, and who are now trying to conquer the rest of the world with their rock music, there is the story of the shoe box. Rome, around five years ago: Four teenagers who are meeting every day after school in their rehearsal room to make music together, and sometimes they play their songs on the Via del Corso in the city centre in front of a changing audience. One day they want to record their own stuff. They find a studio that they can actually afford and as they go there they bring a shoe box, with the name of the band written on it, 'moonshine' in Danish, the bassist's mother is Danish. In the box: around seven kilogram of coins. The things you get from playing music on the streets. Everyone searching through Instagram for photos from that time can find four hippies with children's faces, three boys in batik, the girl is wearing a straw hat.
As they have to pay [for the recording], frontman Damiano David, 22, says that there was this guy, Angelo, and his bandmate Victoria De Angelis, 21, is interrupting: “No, Andrea, not Angelo”, and all of them have to laugh because a rigid studio manager with the Italian name 'angel' would be even funnier for a founding myth. David continues his story: “The guy was completely dumbfounded. 'We can't do that.' We went: 'Sure we can, that's worth the same even if it's just 20 cent coins, it's still 300 euros.” Thomas Raggi, 20, the guitarist of the band, is gasping for air as he laughs, while drummer Ethan Torchio, 20, is smiling dreamily. David finishes: “And then we snuck off before he was able to count it.” [the German text says 'verdrücken' here which is just a colloquial way of saying 'we left', but it entails some sort of a dramatic exit, so yeah, let your thoughts get creative how they left exactly :D].
Four young musicians on the verge of global fame are sitting on a white interview sofa in Berlin, completely styled, babbling across each other like overeager teenagers.
Ever since the Roman band first won the music festival Sanremo and then also the Eurovision Song Contest, carried by the enthusiasm of European viewers, you could say Måneskin has become a phenomenon. “Rock 'n' Roll never dies!”, Damiano David yelled fueled by the adrenaline of winning, and the insinuation that circulated on social media of the singer snorting during the counting of votes in front of a live camera – including their strict denial followed by a negative drug test result – might have given an additional boost to their public interest, their exploding album, ticket and merch sales, and their outstanding success on Spotify.
“We think it's a shit prejudice against rock music that there always have to be drugs involved. We fully threw ourselves into our participation with the utmost professionalism. We give everything for the music. So of course we don't want people to think that we can only do that because we take drugs.” – Victoria De Angelis
Prior to Eurovision, Måneskin was more of an insider's tip outside of Italy. Handmade rock music, not creating something entirely new but paying homage to the good old times with classic guitar riffs and cracking drum beats, being a lot of fun but also quite fragile and vulnerable at times and, first and foremost, conveying a captivating energy. Finally, on the stage of Rotterdam, live after so many months of isolation and renunciation, this wave of energy spilled straight over into European living rooms. It seemed easy to (mistakenly) interpret the winning song “Zitti e buoni” (Shut up and behave) as a declaration of frustration of our youth in times of a pandemic. In fact, singer Damiano David is singing about the favourite topic of the band: the unrelenting need to, against all odds, be yourself, despite or perhaps because you are different. The message fits their provocative sex appeal, which the band uses to demonstrate their independence of gender norms at any given time. But the core essence of rock music has always been the promise of unlimited freedom.
Thus at the first moment, the meeting with Måneskin is kind of startling. It's Wednesday, we are in the top floor of the new Sony head quarters in Berlin. The four Italians have just started their two-week long promotion tour through Europe. In the afternoon there will be a live concert in a queer club [the SchwuZ, but that's not mentioned here] in Neukölln, which will be streamed via TikTok. Around one million viewers will watch the show, some of them even from Brazil, so people at Sony are pretty excited [for Måneskin to come here]. But at first, these stunningly gorgeous creatures [yes, that's the exact wording :D] are standing surrounded by an entourage of people – their management, PR team, a stylist, a photographer, people who can hold a smartphone or a cigarette if needed [this paragraph is worded a little weirdly, especially taking into account that basically their whole team / 'entourage' is just friends of them, but it seems like the journalist didn't know that or maybe they just wanted to describe their first impression]. They seem like fictional / artificial characters out of a Hollywood movie. Transparent frill blouses with blazers and flared leather trousers, even the platform boots, everything brand-new, the makeup makes their faces look like a glossy magazine cover even in person. The smokey eyes of De Angelis and Raggi make them look smug and bored. Later, on the pictures it will probably look cool.
So of course your first impression might be: This band is under contract to industry giant Sony ever since their success on an Italian casting show [X Factor] in Winter 2017. The music industry must have its hand in the game when a band is photographed half-naked by Oliviero Toscani and styled by Etro. Also, one does not simply rent a villa with a pool in Rome to produce new music there, isolated from the rest of the world. And who else went to London for two whole months, shortly before the winter lockdown, just for inspiration? After the TikTok concert in Berlin – De Angelis and David are now wearing fishnet shirts that sparkle with every move, their bare nipples covered with an X of black tape – the band is posing with a few influencers. In the world of social media you would call that 'producing content'. But what does that mean for a band who are preaching their hosanna of authenticity? How authentic is Måneskin? And is their pointedly casual approach to sexuality and gender cliches in today's pop-cultural spirit more than a marketing strategy?
We're in the interview, the recording device is running for not even five minutes, when Victoria De Angelis says: “Actually, we just try to be ourselves and do what we really want to do.” And really: The more you listen to those four how they speak about the early days of the band in their slurred Roman dialect, about the shoe box and their own experiences with being different, but most importantly about their shared obsession [with music], the more you realise that [De Angelis] is  very serious. Ethan Torchio, who got his first drum kit at the age of six or seven from his father because he was beating everything he could reach, says: “For me, music is like food. I cannot live without it.” The bassist next to him laughs at his pathos. Singer Damiano David applauds the otherwise more reserved friend for his truthfulness [it says 'klarer Punkt', meaning 'for the point he makes', but it makes it seem like Damiano is agreeing with Ethan here, although it doesn't indicate whether he agrees that yes, music is everything for Ethan or that he understands and feels the same].
De Angelis and guitarist Raggi already knew each other from middle school and they were the ones who tried to form a band at the age of only 13, a band that actually took music seriously.
De Angelis: “It's just difficult at that age to find other people who really put everything into music and who truly commit themselves and are willing to invest a lot of their time.”
Raggi: “We set strict rules and scheduled fixed times for the rehearsals, for every day.”
David: “Fever, stomach ache, there was no excuse. Even if you were feeling sick in the rehearsal room. At least you were in the rehearsal room.”
The way the four of them talk across each other, completing each other's sentences, taking turns in talking and sometimes joking about each other, seems intimate and playful. Singer David remembers how at first bassist [De Angelis] was merciless towards him when it came to her first metal band project, as she told him that he wasn't committed enough [to the music]: “Back then I was still playing Basketball. I was one of the people that Vic absolutely didn't want [in her band].” Drummer Torchio was later discovered through Facebook, even though there had already been a drummer, a close friend, but he was not good enough. It seems as if even back then music was everything for them. Even if it meant that only Raggi managed to graduate.
And why rock, why rock music of all things? Because it's great, the four of them say in unison. David adds: “Actually, it's a genre that allows you to do everything you want to do.”
When they played on the street, they were laughed at by their classmates. But not only there. De Angelis explains that she never wanted to be a typical girl: “I was always deterred by those stupid boxes that people put you in, and that are just restricting and constraining you, because something is only regarded as male or female. I always rejected that. Instead, I just wanted to do the things I enjoyed doing, I went skating and played football.” Torchio says: “Friends who are not friends anymore were already telling me at the age of ten that those“ – he grabs his long, silky black hair – “were wrong. Because I'm a boy and boys are meant to have short hair, long hair is only for girls. I was bullied a lot for that.”
“Compared to the past, people in our age became much more open-minded. It gets better.” – Thomas Raggi
Frontman David on the other hand, for whom eye shadow, jingling earrings and nail polish as well as his bare torso with the tattoos have become trademarks by now, says: “I was actually more of the average boy.” De Angelis convinced him to try out some eyeliner, which he describes as a spiritual awakening: “I liked myself much more [with makeup]. I saw myself more as myself. As if it had been a suppressed desire of mine.” On a trip to Copenhagen with the others, when he realised that it really didn't matter what people were thinking about him, he got his first fake fur [coat? the article doesn't specify that] in a second-hand shop and let his clothing style be guided by his own love to experiment: “I realised that my whole life I was just going at half speed.” When it comes to diversity all four of them are becoming almost missionary.
At the same time, their success is not only opening doors for them. Back home in Rome they are barely able to go out on the street due to all the paparazzi. “[You need a] hoodie and huge sunglasses”, David says, “the mask is quite helpful, too.” And still, none of them is complaining, and Torchio explains why: “Even if those experiences right now may have sides that are not so pleasant, we still know that for us a dream is coming true. We experience something that we always had in our minds, so we are willing to face every consequence that this entails.”
So is the band facing difficult times, is Måneskin going to change with all the success? Again, all of them answer at the same time.
David: “I'm not worried about that.”
Raggi: “No way!”
De Angelis: “On the contrary. Everything that happened to us happened because we are who we are, so we want to continue the exact same way and stay ourselves.”
Just a few hours later, they are at the stage in Neukölln, bouncing around like pinballs, hammering at their instruments, flirting with each other. “We are out of our minds, but different from the others”, David sings their winning hymn against conformism, and: “The people talk, unfortunately they talk.” Here on stage, the four paradise birds [a German word describing someone with a flamboyant personality] with their half-nude-glittering outfits are radiating an incredible energy with the utmost sincerity, and you begin to wish there was a live audience instead of the TikTok cameras, absorbing and spreading this energy. Måneskin. A cry for a life after the pandemic, a cry for freedom and a better world.
“We do what we wished for all our lives.” – Ethan Torchio
Chapter 42 Part 1
Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
The recruits around Steve were laughing, and he had to smile himself. He’d just told them the story about how he had managed to get a flag down from the top of a pole once when he was training, right before he go the serum. He’d taken the pins out of the bottom of the pole causing it to crash to the floor where as everyone else had tried to climb it, including Gilmore Hodge. God, what a prick he had been.
“So, the moral of the story is just because it’s the path of least resistance, it doesn’t mean it’s the wrong path.” Steve looked around at the assembled team, smiling to himself as he repeated the words Natasha had once said to him, words he hadn’t agreed with in that circumstance but here, well, they fit.  “Consider each task on its own merit. Decide what your end goal is and then look for the simplest, safest and least strenuous way to achieve it. Conserve your energy for when there’s no other option open to you because that’s the time that you’ll truly need it.”
With that he nodded to Rhodey and moved to the side of the room, folding his arms across his broad chest as he looked at the assembled trainees. They seemed like a good bunch this lot, receptive to his advice and teaching which was an improvement on the lot he’d had a month or so back in Colorado. They’d been a nightmare and when they were awkward it made being away from his girls so much more of a chore. At least when they were like this, it made him feel like it was worthwhile. He took a few more questions, gave a bit more advice before they called it for the day and he headed back to his room to make sure he was packed, ready to head home the next afternoon. It had been three weeks this time, and whilst he’d spoken to Katie and Emmy every night it still didn’t make him feel any better at being away from them, even though he knew it was part and parcel of his job.
It also wasn’t helping their baby-making plans either.
His phone was vibrating in his pocket and he smiled when he saw who it was. Flopping down on the bed he beamed at Katie.
“Hey sweetheart.”
“Hey handsome.” she smiled, yawning slightly
“What you been up to?”
“Been busy with this Half Way Home proposal.
“How’s it going?”
“Good, Pepper’s giving it the once over before we send it into the Senate. I don’t think they’ll have an issue, I mean we’re not asking for funding but with them behind us it means the sale should go through easier.”
“Sounds like you have it all planned.” He smiled “Bet Natasha is pleased.” “Hmmm” Katie frowned. “She’s flown off again this evening.”
He groaned “Johannesburg?”
“Yeah.” she shrugged “She won’t give up. Says she owes it to Clint to try.”
“She’s on a hiding to nothing.” Steve sighed “I don’t know what she thinks she can do.” “Who knows, but if it makes her feel better who are we to argue. We’d do the same in her position.” And Steve had nothing else he could say on the matter, as he knew she was right. He had done the same, pretty much.
“Can’t want to get home tomorrow.” he changed the subject, smiling. “Three weeks apart isn’t exactly helpful on the whole trying-not-trying front is it?”
“Not really no.” Katie gave a soft laugh
Steve grinned cheekily “Every time I’ve jacked off in the shower I’ve had this horrible, guilty feeling that I could be washing a little me down the-“ “Oh my God!” Katie snorted as Steve laughed loudly, his right hand flying to his chest “You’re disgusting!”
“You love it!” he smirked, and she sighed and looked at him.
“I love you.” she said simply, and he could do nothing but grin stupidly back at the screen.
“Hi Jen!” Katie greeted as she walked up to the coffee counter, Emmy walking behind it like she owned the place, casually heading into the back to find Brooke.
“Hi!” Jen turned to her, “Usual?” “Erm, to be honest with you coffee isn’t what I’m after today.” she said “Had a disgusting hangover yesterday that I’m still recovering from so can I get a tea and one of those Danishes please?”
Jenifer chortled, “Take a seat I’ll bring it over and join you for a bit.” Katie smiled, paid for her drink and food and headed over to the comfy sofas by the window. Sinking into the well-worn leather she pulled out her phone and flicked through a few emails, pleased to see Pepper had proof read their proposal and made a few minor tweaks. She had just fired it off to her secretary to make the changes and forward on when Jennifer sat opposite her, pushing her food and drink over the table. Katie was that hungry she wolfed the pastry down in about four bits, before leaning back, wiping her fingers with a napkin.
“I think sugar and carbs maybe the way forward today” she laughed “I feel better already.”
“Why is it the older you get, the longer hangovers last?” the woman asked and Katie shrugged.
“Gone are the days I could sink shot after shot and still make it out unscathed.” she rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her tea appreciatively “Being an adult sucks.” She spent a few hours at the coffee shop, leaving Emmy there after Jennifer had assured her it was ok for her to stay, before heading into the city to find Steve a gift. This year, four, was either fruit, flowers, linen or silk. Which was a random combination when you thought about it. But she found a really nice grey linen blazer that would suit Steve, and smirking to herself, bought a silk slip that she could wear to bed. Always nice to keep him on his toes as she had said last year.
She picked Emmy up and then stopped on the way home to fuel up the Camero, As she leaned against the side of the car, watching the numbers tick over on the pump, the smell of gasoline filled her nostrils, almost choking her and she was overcome with a wave of nausea and vomited straight onto the floor.
“Fucks sake.” she groaned, as she managed to compose herself, waiting for the feeling to subside. Thankfully Emmy was too engrossed in something on her phone to notice. Eventually, her stomach stopped flipping and she finished, paid and headed back to the Compound, wondering if she was coming down with a bug. But then, as she walked down the corridor with her bags the strong stench of bleach from one of the labs made her once again feel the need to hurl.
Something clicked in her mind and she paused, suddenly feeling very hot.
“Hey.” Bruce looked at her as he appeared from the lab. “You alright? You look a bit pale.” “Yeah, fine.” she nodded, swallowing “Just remembered, I forgot to grab something. Emmy, can you take these up to the apartment and go straight to Nat? Bruce do you mind just…”
“No, course not.” He smiled, “In fact, I have something to show you Em. Remember that research I was doing into the…”
Katie didn’t stay to hear the rest, Emmy wandered off after Bruce chatting away, whilst she turned back the way she had come and hurried back to the car.
***** Steve walked back into the apartment and was greeted by a whirl of sandy fur before Katie appeared hurriedly crossing the hallway to throw herself into his arms.
“Missed you.” He smiled, as he bent to give her a kiss.
“I missed you too.” she pouted, her hands fisting into his light blue button down “Three weeks is far too long, I don’t like it.” “I know, sorry baby.” he smiled “Where’s Emmy?”
“Nat’s” Katie said as she turned and headed back to the kitchen “I know it isn’t our anniversary until tomorrow but I wanted get you all to myself right away.”
“Yeah? Got something in mind?” He grinned, wrapping his arms around her from behind, nipping at her neck before he rest his chin on her shoulder.
“Yeah, feeding you.” she chuckled as his stomach gave a loud rumble “Hungry?” “I’m always hungry.” he pouted, his arms still wrapped tightly round her “Doesn’t help that whatever you’ve been baking smells so good.”
“Saffron buns.” She smiled and Steve let out a groan off delight as his stomach rumbled again “And seeing as you’re so keen to get your hands on one, can you get them out of the oven?” she nodded towards it and twisted away from his hold “I’m almost done with the rest of the food.”
Grumbling slightly at the loss of her warmth against his chest, he straightened up and pulled the metal and glass door open before he frowned. A single bun sat on the tray in the middle of the large oven. What was that about?
“Honey, what…” He turned to look at Katie who was stood behind him, biting her lip. He frowned, before he turned back to the bun in the…
Oh. Oh!
Steve spun round that fast he nearly fell over. Katie smiled at him, her eyes shining at the look of surprise on his handsome face.
“You’re - um. You - you’re…?” Steve couldn’t quite form his words. Katie smiled, as he swallowed hard “Katie…”
“Yeah. Although I think the correct term might be ‘we.’”
“Sweetheart you…” he looked at his wife, not quite able to believe what she was saying “We’re, really having a baby?” “Yeah.” She nodded, sniffing slightly as she reached for him then with both hands, cupping his face in her fingers. “We are. You’re gonna be a daddy, Steve.”
“Shit!” He exclaimed with a laugh “I’m gonna be a daddy!” with that he pulled her into his arms and swung her up in the air, the same way he had done when she’d agreed to marry him, causing her to laugh before he gently brought her down again, her arms sliding around his neck as he set her on her feet, pressing another kiss to her lips.
“How far gone, do you know?” He asked, pulling back an inch. “Not sure. It can’t be that far but I have an appointment with the ob-gyn tomorrow morning. I wanted to make sure everything was okay after, you know…”
Steve glanced down at her stomach and moved his hand towards it, pausing.
“You don’t have to ask.” Katie smiled softly, taking his hand in hers and guiding it onto her stomach. Steve took a deep breath as his fingers splayed out gently across her belly under her palm, his face shining with pure unadulterated emotion as his eyes stayed focused on his hand.
He had never felt so happy or so alive in his life.
*****
A tiny blip. Nothing more than what looked like static brought tears to both their eyes as Dr Kellet pointed to the image.
“Well, Mrs Rogers” she smiled “from this I estimate you’re roughly eight weeks pregnant.” “Eight weeks?” Steve asked, as he did the maths in his head. Eight weeks took them back to the fourth of July, his birthday…
Katie grinned to herself as she felt Steve’s arms slide around her waist and his lips gently brushing on her neck, his stubble scratching at her skin.
“I’m trying to cook you lunch here.” she sighed as his hand worked beneath the waistband of her denim shorts. Her breath caught in her throat as his fingers skated into her underwear.
“Want me to stop?” he asked as her head fell back against his shoulder and she bit her lip.
“Didn’t say that.” she muttered as his fingers slipped further into her folds, finding her spot. His other hand slipped up her vest top and splayed on her stomach, pulling her back into him further and she let out a soft squeak as he slipped one finger into her. He continued to work her, she was putty in his hands and eventually when he knew she was close he moved and spun her round, pulling her to him, his arousal pressing into her as he kissed her, hard, his hands cupping her cheeks as he backed her into the wall. Her hands strayed down to the buckle of his belt and she quickly undid it, wasting no time as she slipped her hand into his boxers, grasping him hard. He bucked at the touch and let out a hiss.
“Easy soldier.” she grinned into his mouth as he let out a groan, his hands dropping to her shorts. In a flash she was out of them and her underwear and he lifted her easily, her legs wrapping around his waist, back pressed against the kitchen wall.
“Shut up.” he mumbled, kissing her hard and she laughed into his mouth, a laugh that turned into a gasp as he pushed into her with no warning at all.
“Gonna fuck a baby into you doll.” He growled and her head rolled back, banging slightly on the light yellow painted wall. “Say that again.” she moaned.
He punctuated each word with a hard thrust “I’m…gonna…fuck…a…baby…into…you…” he purred, one hand resting by her head on the wall, the other snaking under her top and pulling down the cups of her bra. He rolled each nipple in turn between his thumb and forefinger leaving her grinding down against him for more friction as she kissed him again, hard, her gasps coming thick and fast as he rutted up, his hips snapping back and forth in a fast and deep rhythm. Steve let out a groan, his tongue sliding against hers sending the familiar red hot pokers of desire straight to his belly. His wife still managed to turn him on as much as the first time they’d ever been intimate together, despite there being what felt like a life time of ups and downs since then. If anything he was convinced that’s what made it better. He knew her body as well as he knew his own, every curve, every dip, every scar, blemish freckle and she knew his, each and every single inch of his skin, his limbs. Her hands grasped at his back, sliding up his t-shirt, nails raking down his skin, the stinging sensation causing him to grunt again as his rhythm picked up slightly, gaining momentum as he could feel himself going. “Come on, baby.” He muttered, his forehead pressed against hers “Wanna see you let go.”
“Stevie.” Her voice was a whisper, as her eyes fluttered closed for a second and he felt her thighs tighten around him, her mouth falling slack for a moment as her head tilted back. He moved the hand that was against the wall to her neck, holding her head in place and when her eyes opened again, those beautiful green orbs locked onto his she gave a low, sultry moan and he felt her walls tighten around him.
“Fuck, you feel so good.” He mumbled as the strands in his stomach began to tighten “I love you, so much.” and with a final few snaps of his hips he came with a loud moan, his head falling to her shoulder, lips latching onto her neck as he thrust through his orgasm, before he stilled, both of them catching their breath.
Their baby had been conceived between the toaster and the fridge.
“So from that you’re estimated due date is the ninth April…” Dr Kellet smiled, tapping at something on her computer and then turning to gently wipe off the gel she had placed on Katie’s stomach. “So, do you have any questions?”
Of course Steve did. He spent a full thirty minutes drilling the woman about all the types of things Katie could and couldn’t do. Dr Kellet smiled, before she answered all of them, and some he hadn’t asked, in particular one about how sex was fine up until the birth if Katie was comfortable, warning him in fact that many pregnant women felt a spike in their libido in their second trimester. This caused Steve to flush and Katie to silently snigger.
“And lastly, I do hate to warn you about this as well but the term morning sickness, its bullshit. Should be called All Day Sickness”
“Tell me about it” Katie rolled her eyes. “Smells are the worst trigger.”
“Yeah, that’s very common.” the Dr Smiled “The good news is it should die down, if not go completely by about twenty weeks, but just keep yourself hydrated and rest up to avoid fatigue.”
“Thanks.” Katie smiled at her, “I’ll bear it in mind.”
As they walked back to the car, Steve’s arm curled round Katie’s shoulder and he pulled her closer, dropping a kiss onto her head. She smiled to herself, leaning into his touch as he gripped the scan photo they had been given with his other hand.
“I still can’t quite believe it.” He shook his head, reaching into his pocket for the car keys. “I know.” Katie’s voice was little more than a whisper. Steve turned to face her, his hands linking at the bottom of her spine “I can’t wait to tell everyone.” “We’re not telling everyone until twelve weeks is up.” she said, shaking her head “Bar Tony, Natasha, and Emmy.”
“Now?” He grinned, and Katie laughed as she snaked her arms round his neck.
“So impatient, Captain Badass.” She grinned as she leaned up to kiss him. “But yeah, let’s pay Tony a visit!”
Steve spent the entire forty-five minute journey grinning like an idiot, chatting about plans for nurseries and all sorts of stuff, he was incandescently excited. Katie simply let him go on, his happiness was infectious although she did at one point have to get him to pull over so she could vomit out of the passenger door.
Steve was out of the car like a shot and round to the other side, crouching down, his hand gently stroking Katie’s flushed cheek.
“You okay?” He asked, his face concerned as she reached for the bottle of water that was in the cup holder.
“Get used to this.” She groaned, laying her head back against the head rest.
As they walked up the driveway to the porch, Pepper spotted them immediately from where she was sat on a chair on the grass, Morgan happily led on her tummy on the tartan blanket. She greeted them as they approached and Morgan let out a loud shriek at the sound of their voices.
“Moo, you’ve gotten so big!” Steve smiled as he swept her up and she beamed back at him.
“Well you haven’t seen her in a few weeks.” Pepper chuckled, as Steve gently pulled faces at the infant, causing her to give him a huge smile. “They grow fast.” “You’re not kidding.” Steve mused and Katie smiled, unable to stop her heart blooming at the thought that he would be doing that soon enough with their own baby.
“Hey guys.” Tony smiled, walking out of the house and dropping onto a seat next to Pepper. “Not that it’s not nice to see you but we weren’t expecting you.” “Yeah, well, we err, have some news that we kinda wanted to tell you in person.” Katie glanced up at Steve as he gently placed Morgan back on the blanket and Katie sat on the wicker couch opposite her brother and Pepper, Steve perching on the arm next to her.
Pepper twigged immediately, smiling at Katie who grinned back.
“What’s the matter?” Tony frowned, “Are you sick? Is something wrong with the business?”
“Oh come on Tony, isn’t it obvious?” Pepper looked at him
“Errr no.” he frowned. “What-” he looked at his sister “-what’s supposed to be obvious?”
Katie glanced at Steve who gave her a grin before he turned and looked at his brother-in-law.
“You’re gonna be an uncle, Tony!” he smiled, dropping an arm round Katie’s shoulders.
Tony stared for a minute and then slapped his knees triumphantly, a huge grin breaking across his face. “You’re kidding me! Really? Really?” He leaned forward, intently scrutinizing Katie’s midsection until she tossed a throw pillow at his head. He dodged it, looked at her for a moment before he jumped up and swept her into an enormous hug. She stood up to greet him, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Kiddo, that’s, wow, it’s awesome!” He spluttered.
“Thanks Tony.” She sniffed, stepping back as her brother reached up and cupped her face in his hands, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Guys, congratulations.” Pepper gave Steve a hug and then turned to Katie when Tony had finally released her, giving the younger woman a squeeze.
“Wow, Baby America - you gonna dress him in star spangled diapers?” Tony paused, faltering, as he was shaking Steve’s hand. “Or her, or maybe one of each?”
“One of each?” Steve frowned.
“It isn’t twins.” Katie rolled her eyes
“You gonna find out what it is?” Pepper asked.
“I dunno we haven’t discussed it.”
“Wait, they can find out?” Steve frowned “They can find out what it is before it’s born?” Tony looked at Steve “Remind me how long you’ve been defrosted?”
“Tony.” Pepper warned him before she turned to Steve “Yes, Steve they can.” “But you guys didn’t?” He frowned. “We didn’t want to know.”  Tony shrugged, dropping a kiss onto the side of Pepper’s head before he clapped his hands together. “This causes for a celebration, only not you young lady.” He pointed at Katie and she rolled her eyes “Yes, beers.” he continued chunnering away to himself, heading back to the house.
“You two okay to watch Morgan?” Pepper asked gesturing to where Morgan lay on her back, legs wriggling furiously “Just keep an eye on her, anything she can get hold of she’s sticking in her mouth…”
The two of them nodded and sank back into the chairs and Steve dropped a kiss to Katie’s head, his arm curling round her shoulders as she snuggled into him, kicking off her shoes so she could swing her feet up onto the cushion besides her.
“Happy?” He asked.
“Ridiculously” she responded, giving him a soft kiss.
***** Later that night they broke their happy news to Emmy, only she didn’t react the way they had expected.
“So,” she looked down at her hands as her fingers twisted around one another, the way they always did when she was worried, “does this mean I need to pack my bags?” “What?” Katie frowned, “Why would us having a baby mean you need to pack your bags?” “Coz, well, you’ll have your own kid now.” she shrugged “Not like you’ll want me around.” Steve and Katie shared a look and Steve shook his head, dropping to his knees in front of the girl as Katie sat on the arm of the chair she was in.
“Of course we want you around.” Steve looked at the girl “Emmy, you’re part of our family now, and all this means is that our family is getting a bit bigger.”
Emmy looked up at Steve, her eyes shining with tears, before she looked at Katie, and melted into her arms as the woman gave her a hug.
“You have a home with us for as long as you want.” Katie pulled back, smiling “And besides,” she winked, “you’ll be our chief babysitter.”
Later that night, when she was getting changed for bed, Steve couldn’t help but just watch Katie as she moved around the bedroom in her sleep shorts and bra. The fact she was growing his baby just made her all the more beautiful to him, and when he couldn’t stand not touching her anymore, he threw his legs off the bed and moved to stand behind her, looking over her shoulder into the mirror as she finished cleaning her teeth. One hand came to rest on her hip, while his other hand slipped down, palm spread protectively over her bare abdomen as he pressed tender kisses to her cheek and throat.
"I love you,” he whispered softly against her ear.
She leaned back against him, looking at the two - no, three of them in the mirror, her husband’s head bowed against hers, their child beneath his hand.
For once he fell asleep before Katie, and as she lay there, gently stroking the back of his neck she couldn’t help the immense happiness that overwhelmed her. Things were about to change, again, for them. But this time, it was a change they both welcomed.
How Do I Buy Good Quality Sofa And Couches On The Internet?
It’s far better to do some study and don’t get betrayed by the pictures taken in well-lighted workshops which are merely used to influence and attract the customers. Wish customer pictures of the product which would be more truthful Better to visit the most important sites, don’t overlook to read about the reappearance policy of the sofa or couch or other product you are buying online, because occasionally we don’t get a product as we predictable while we saw it online. The most well-organized way to examine the product you are purchasing online is to read other buyer reviews, Who have purchased the same product. Especially try to read undesirable reviews as it would let you know about flaws or flaws of the product! Moreover best of luck. The online market has previously expanded trust with its customer welcoming policies. Good news! Bookseller favorite 'Finn Juhl and His House' is Back in Stock from @hatjecantzverlag  The Danish design scholar @birgitlyngbye discovered the work of Finn Juhl (1912-1989) when she was looking for a suitable sofa for her 1950s home. Juhl's furniture is undergoing a renaissance at present, and when his house in Charlottenlund--which he designed and decorated in 1941-42--came up for sale, Pedersen purchased the building and all of its furnishings, presenting it immediately afterward to the adjacent @ordrupgaard   This monograph takes a look at Juhl--who, alongside Hans J. Wegner and Arne Jacobsen, is one of the most important Danish modernists--in an agreeable, unpretentious fashion. Per H. Hansen, a renowned expert in Scandinavian furniture design, provides a humorous, extremely informative description of Juhl's unconventional character and his classic furniture--the Chieftain Chair, the Pelican Chair, the Poet Sofa.   Drawings, photographs, images of the newly curated house (2008) and an amusing final chapter about his patrons round off this unusual and atmospherically illustrated tribute to the brilliant Danish designer and his own home, an icon of good taste.  #finnjuhl #finnjuhlhouse @houseoffinnjuhl #houseoffinnjuhl https://www.instagram.com/artbook/p/CYuX6ZzpvaX/?utm_medium=tumblr
Philz Coffee, 39000 Paseo Padre Pkwy, Fremont, CA 94538, Score: 39/50
Tumblr media
Things are looking up in Fremont. I was surprised that Philz opened here and in Central Fremont rather than closer to Milpitas.
Score: 39/50
Food: 5/5 – They have pastries (scones, Goody Goodie cookies, Danish), toasts, bagels, and energy bowls. The toasts are simple and topped with fresh ingredients that pair well together. I haven’t had Goody Goodie cookies in years but I remember that they were wonderful, especially the chocolate chip cookies.
Coffee: 5/5 – They have their one cup at a time handmade drip coffee and tea. The coffees are dark, medium or light roast. Some have fresh mint leaves. Specify desired level of sweetness and cream. The coffees are nice and strong.
Wi-fi: 4/5 – Free, unlimited, no password required.
Ambiance: 4/5 – It’s open and bright with an industrial feeling – exposed beams, yellow accents, some communal tables, and outdoor seating.
Noise: 3/5 – The music isn’t loud but the concrete floor amplifies sounds
Plugs: 3/5 – The communal tables have built in outlets
Parking: 5/5 – They share a parking lot. Parking shouldn’t be an issue.
Comfort: 4/5 – Some chairs are padded, some are not. There’s a sofa too. The smaller tables are comfortable.
Bathroom: 3/5 – One unisex restroom
Art: 3/5 – Mural and photographs.
Tips: Order your drink first, then your food, then pay. They’ll call you when your order is ready. Mobile pick up available. Philz beans are for sale. The line moves slower because of their one cup at a time brewing method.
CANNES — Compared to the composed frosted figure of Denmark’s prime minister which her character Birgitte Nyborg occasionally achieves when in “Borgen,” at least when signing papers behind a sober desk, Sidse Babett Knudsen, probably Denmark’s most famous actress, comes across in person, sitting on a sofa at a Cannes beachside restaurant, as younger, livelier, enthusiastic — “Yes!” “Yes!,” she exclaims, leaning forward in the seat, in hearty agreement at the interviewer’s flailing questions — and with a far larger sense of humor.
She also seemed thrilled to have just been announced as the official patron of the first CanneSeries TV festival, which will unspool next April 4-11.
In serving as its patron, it could be argued that she is giving back to TV something of what TV has given to her.
“I’m a film person,” Babett Knudsen says of career that takes in Susanne Bier’s 2006 Oscar-nominated “After the Wedding” and Peter Strickland’s “The Duke of Burgundy.” She says that early on in conversation making it sound almost like a confession, and talking in such an impeccable English that the only question regarding that point is what part of England the Danish actress comes from.
(In reality, she attended a school in Tanzania from the age of five to seven, when her parents went off to do voluntary work in Africa, and hen went to an in terminational school in Copenhagen when she returned to Europe).
She came to TV by chance, she explains. “I was asked to do TV and very reluctant to do it. I was a snob, and then a director I loved said you have t get on board, Sidse, and gave me ‘The West Wing.”
She binged it all. Literally the day she finished she got a call from DR, Denmark’s esteemed public broadcaster, to audition for a political show they were going to do called “Borgen.”
Following on “The Killing” whose acquisition by the BBC brought down the flag on Nordic Noir as an international phenomenon, “Borgen” was acclaimed by Newsweek as “the best TV show you’ve never seen.” But quite a lot of people saw the show that was never seen: One million viewers for the opening episode of Season 2 on the U.K.’s BBC, for instance.
“Borgen’s” sales from the U.S. to Mexico to Japan made it one of Europe’s first foreign-language TV dramas to confirm a hugely widespread and burgeoning niche audience for TV shows from any part of the world.
“For me, ‘Borgen’ was very Danish. The fact that it started to travel but so unpredictable,” Knudsen recalls.
Given that, it is quite appropriate, that Knudsen has been chosen as the CanneSeries patron, argued Albin Lewi. “Sidse embodies what series are today. Any show from anywhere can be a massive global success.” But Knudsen helped prove it first.
She is also one of the New TV’s most consummate actresses, not just in “Borgen,” but also “1864,”  a TV show of epic sweep and withering tragedy, showing how the life hopes of a generation of Danish youth were dashed by the absurd 2nd Schleswig War, Playing Johanne Luise Heiberg, a histrionic grand dame of 19th century Danish theater, Knudsen constructs more of a persona than person, as she recognizes, an embodiment of Danish patriotic values which swept Denmark into war on a swelling tide of folly.
In “Westworld,” as Theresa Cullen, the cowboy theme park’s head of operations, her death scene is a wonderful mano a mano with Anthony Hopkins, a case study in high drama played with total control.
Just seen in the U.K. in Channel 4-Sony Pictures TV-Amazon Prime Video’s “Electric Dreams,” a Philip K. Dick sci-fi anthology, where she plays an android, Knudsen is also a flag-waver to the artistic potential of TV drama.
Playing Birgitte Nyborg, she watched other TV shows such as “The Sopranos.” “I saw some really, really good shows of such high quality, visually, story-wise, in production values.”
She was “fascinated” by listening to “Westworld” show-runners’ explanation of the philosophical theories the series channels, she says.
Series can offer dramatic possibilities to actors which film can’t.
The first stretches of “Mad Men” could seem just to be men sitting around smoking and drinking whisky, she comments. But series can develop at a more measured pace than film, she argues. “Borgen” allowed her to work her character with continued depth, she adds.
“As series get shorter and shorter, will five-episode series be mini-series or five-hour films?”
Once a naysayer, CanneSeries – and global drama seen anywhere and from anywhere – has won a high-profile convert.
Top 5 Home Design Trends for a New Decade
Tumblr media
Whether you’re planning a simple refresh or a full-scale renovation, it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in home design. Sellers who make tasteful updates can generate increased buyer interest and, in some cases, a premium selling price. And buyers should consider which features of a home will need updating immediately (or in the near future) so they can factor renovation costs into their overall budget.
Even if you have no immediate plans to buy or sell, we advise our clients to be thoughtful about the colors, materials, and finishes they select when planning a remodel, or even redecorating. Choosing over-personalized or unpopular options could hurt a home’s value when it does come time to list your property. And selecting out-of-style or overly-trendy elements could cause your home to feel dated quickly.
To help, we’ve rounded up five of the hottest home design trends for 2020. Keep in mind, not all of these will work well in every house. If you plan to buy, list, or renovate your property, give us a call. We can help you realize your vision and maximize the impact of your investment.
1. IN: Sustainability / OUT: Fast Furniture
Consumers have become increasingly eco-conscious. Many are shunning the mass-produced, “fast furniture” popularized by retailers like IKEA, opting instead for higher-quality pieces that are built to last. And the availability of non-toxic, environmentally-friendly furniture and decor options is set to grow in 2020 and beyond.
At the same time, there’s been a noticeable shift toward individuality in today’s interior design. Instead of following the latest fad, more homeowners are opting to embrace their personal style and invest in items they believe will “spark joy” (à la Marie Kondo) for years to come.
To incorporate this trend, designers recommend layering old and new pieces for a curated look that you can build over time. Instead of purchasing a matching furniture set from a big-box retailer, buy one or two sustainably-sourced pieces that complement what you already own. Try searching estate sales and Craigslist for vintage classics or well-built furniture that can be refinished. And to accessorize your room, mix sentimental items with newer finds to create a truly personalized space.
2. IN: Cozy / OUT: Cold
Designers are moving away from cool grays, industrial finishes, and stark modernism. In 2020, there’s a big emphasis on creating warm and cozy spaces through color, texture, and shape.
Gray has dominated the color palette for the past decade. This year, expect to see a move toward warmer neutrals, earth tones, and nature-inspired shades of blue and green. Warm metals, like gold and brass, will also continue to trend. And hardwood floors are heating up, as cool gray and whitewashed finishes fade in popularity. Expect to see a rise in classic choices like walnut, mahogany, and oak in richer and darker tones.
Furniture will also get cozier—and curvier—in 2020. From rounded sofas and curved-back chairs to oval dining tables, softened-angles are dominating the furniture scene right now. And designers expect softly-textured fabrics—like velvet, shearling, and mohair—to be big this year, as homeowners strive to add a touch of “hygge” (the Danish concept of calming comfort).
Want to warm up your home decor? Try one of the top paint colors for 2020: Benjamin Moore’s First Light (soft pink), Sherwin Williams’s Naval (rich blue), or Behr’s Back to Nature (light green).
3. IN: Bold / OUT: Boring
Bold is back! After years of neutral overload, vivid colors and prints will take center stage in 2020. Expect to see geometric designs, color blocking, and floral and botanical patterns on everything from pillows to rugs to wallpaper.
The hottest trend in interior paint right now is bold trim and ceilings. Monochromatic rooms (e.g., walls, ceilings, and millwork painted the same color) will be big this year, as well as high-contrast pairings, like white walls with black trim. Color is coming back to kitchens, too, and two-toned color schemes continue to gain steam. In 2019, 40% of remodelers chose a contrasting color for their kitchen island.[1] While white was still the top choice for cabinets, blue and gray are increasingly popular alternatives.
If you’re ready to “go bold,” separated spaces like laundry and powder rooms are great places to start. It’s easier to incorporate busy wallpaper or a bright wall color in an enclosed area because it doesn’t have to flow with the rest of your decor.
Of course, clients always want to know how design choices could impact their home’s value. The reality is, neutral finishes are still the safest bet for resale. If you’re prepping your home to go on the market, stick with non-permanent fixtures—like artwork and accessories—to brighten your space.
4. IN: Nature / OUT: Industrial
Biophilic design has been big the past few seasons, and it isn’t going anywhere in 2020. It centers around the health and wellness benefits of connecting with nature, even while indoors, and it’s impacted the latest trends in color, prints, and materials.
As we mentioned previously, floral and botanical patterns are hot right now, along with nature-inspired hues, like blues, greens, and earth tones. We’re also seeing a heightened use of organic shapes and sustainable materials in furniture and furnishings, including wood, wicker, rattan, and jute. This infusion of nature coincides with a decline in the popularity of urban-industrial fixtures. Designers predict that concrete floors and Edison light bulbs are on the way out.
Want to bring in elements of biophilic design on a budget? Houseplants are a great place to start. But you can also enhance your home’s natural light and create a visual sightline to the outdoors by removing heavy curtains and blinds. And when the weather is nice, open your windows and enjoy the breeze, sounds, and smells of nature. These simple acts are scientifically proven to help reduce stress, boost cognitive performance, and enhance mood![2]
5. IN: Functional / OUT: Fussy
In 2020, homeowners want design that’s beautiful, but also liveable. With the rise in remote workplaces, online shopping, and virtual exercise classes, many of us are spending more time at home than ever before. Cue the growing appeal of multi-functional spaces, like a combination kitchen/office or gym/playroom. Real life—and rising housing prices—necessitates creative use of limited space.
Durable, low-maintenance materials will also surge in popularity this year. Engineered quartz—which is more stain, heat, and chip-resistant than natural stone—is now the #1 choice for kitchen countertops.[1] Waterproof, wood-look luxury vinyl is the fastest-growing segment in the flooring industry.[3] And improvements to water and stain-resistant performance fabric has made it a mainstream option for both indoor and outdoor upholstery.
Now that functional is hot, what’s not? Designers say that mirrored furniture, open shelving, and all-white kitchens are too impractical for today’s busy families.
So how can you start enjoying the time and energy-saving benefits of this design trend? Begin by structuring each room so that it best suits your needs. And when purchasing furniture or fixtures, choose options that are durable and easy-to-clean. The truth is, design fads come and go. But a comfortable and relaxed home (that you don’t spend every spare minute maintaining!) can help create memories to last a lifetime.
Agilenano - News: 2020-04-28
I’ve already shared two of my favourite exhibitions from Stockholm Design Week – ‘The Sculptor’s Residence’ and ‘The Archive’ – so today I have a round-up of interesting product launches from the Stockholm Furniture Fair, which takes place at the same time. The largest trade show in the Nordic design world, it brings together more than 700 brands – mostly from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, but a few from further afield, too. It’s also where many companies choose to unveil their latest pieces, and I’ve picked out some of my favourites below. So, make yourself a cuppa, sit back and feast your eyes on these beautiful new designs… Relaunched pieces from Fredericia’s archives First up is Danish brand Fredericia, which has long been a favourite of mine. Its focus has always been timeless, long-lasting design and for 2020 it has chosen to relaunch several classic pieces from its archives. One is the ‘Ditzel’ lounge chair, created in 1949 by Nanna Ditzel (later responsible for Fredericia’s iconic ‘Trinidad’ chair) and her husband Jørgen. It marked a departure from the upright, rigid chairs that were conventional at the time, and its curved shape was intended to give people the freedom to sit in new, more relaxed ways. The updated version is made from PUR foam with a steel frame, wooden legs and a choice of upholstery, and will be available from September. The other pieces, which are due to go on sale this spring, were all the work of Fredericia’s first design director, Børge Mogensen. The ‘BM61’ and ‘BM62’ chairs (the latter with arms, the former without) are simple yet striking, with a solid wooden frame and a choice of cane wicker or linen webbing for the seat and back. The ‘Canvas’ chair, meanwhile, has a clean-lined oak frame and chunky armrests that echo Mogensen’s famous ‘Spanish’ chair, but with canvas rather than leather for the seat and back. It was designed just before his death in 1972 and has never been put into full production before now, but it makes an excellent addition to Fredericia’s range. Versatile furniture and lighting from Carl Hansen & Son Børge Mogensen was also the man behind two pieces being relaunched by Carl Hansen & Son: the ‘BM0865’ daybed (available from May) and the ‘BM0488’ table bench (available from September). Both were originally showcased at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild furniture exhibition in 1958 and formed part of Mogensen’s ‘building furniture’ concept, through which he aimed to create enduring designs that could be added to and adapted over time in response to changing needs. The daybed is made up of modular oak seats, soft cushions and cylindrical head and armrests that can be used in all sorts of different combinations, and it suits a wide variety of spaces. The bench is crafted from solid oak with a woven top and is similarly versatile, working well as a seat, a side table, a coffee table or a surface for books and other items. Also on show on Carl Hansen’s stand – and in some of the below press photos – was the new ‘MO’ series of floor, table, wall and ceiling lamps. The company’s first collaboration with Danish designer Mads Odgård, it consists of simple lacquered-steel shapes that symbolise light’s comforting effect on people and is designed to last for decades without dating. It will be on sale from October, with prices starting at £263 / €300 per lamp. Scandinavian classics and contemporary tables from Warm Nordic There was yet another relaunch from Warm Nordic – a young Danish brand unveiled at the fair in 2018. It was founded with the aim of showcasing long-lost mid-century pieces alongside contemporary designs, and its latest addition is ‘Dwell’ – a family of compact sofas and armchairs first created by architect Hans Olsen in the 1950s. The curved shape and tapered wooden legs form an elegant yet striking silhouette and there’s a wide range of upholstery options to choose from, including leather and tactile bouclé. It’s set to go on sale this spring, with prices ranging from €1,800 to €5,250. Warm Nordic also used the fair to showcase its new ‘Affinity’ dining table. The work of architect / design duo Halskov & Dalsgaard, it combines a bevelled linoleum top with slimline metal legs and beautiful cane detailing. It comes in round and elliptical versions, with a choice of three muted colourways, and it too will be available in the spring. Prices start at €2,030. New additions at Artek New on Artek‘s stand were two pieces designed by French duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec: the ‘Rope’ chair and the ‘Tupla’ wall hook. Both combine simple-looking silhouettes with sophisticated construction and stay true to the Finnish brand’s ethos of blending art and technology (hence the name Artek). The chair is described as ‘a line drawing translated into space’ and consists of a steel-tube frame threaded with rope that forms the back and armrests. It’s surprisingly comfortable as it bends to the sitter’s shape, and it comes in black with a black polyester rope or light grey with a natural flax rope. The wall hook, meanwhile, is made from die-cast zinc and intended to add beauty to an everyday object, with elegant loops that are as lyrical as they are functional. Sculptural minimalism from Kristina Dam I always look forward to seeing the latest pieces from Copenhagen-based designer Kristina Dam, who describes her aesthetic as ‘sculptural minimalism’, and her spring-summer 2020 collection certainly didn’t disappoint. Among the new additions on her stand were the understated ‘Capsule’ glasses and carafe, the angular ‘Pedestal’ table and a bench to match the existing ‘Curved’ side table. I also spotted brown- and black-leather editions of the popular ‘Curved’ pouf, a new full-sized version of the ‘Rotating’ mirror, and a beautiful porcelain sculpture called ‘Brick’, which takes its cue from Ancient Greek architecture and features a single unbroken line. My favourites, though, were the powder-coated steel ‘Bauhaus’ lounge chair – a tribute to the famous Bauhaus art school, available in black or white and suitable for indoor and outdoor use – and the painted-glass ‘Dual’ vases, which come in soft, earthy colours and can be stood on either end, giving you two different designs in one. Many of the new launches are available now; others are coming soon but you can sign up for alerts via the website. New colours and options from String Furniture Swedish stalwart String Furniture used the fair to display several new additions, including a rich brown version of its iconic modular shelving system and the full roll-out of its beige colourway, first launched for some elements last year. There was also a new utilitarian version of its compact ‘Pocket’ shelf unit featuring perforated metal and a lipped edge. It was created by Swedish duo Anna von Schewen and Björn Dahlström, who sought to reinterpret the design while retaining the essence of the original, and is ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and garages. The holes can be used for hanging hooks, rails and other accessories, and it comes in three colour choices – white, taupe and neon orange – that were developed in collaboration with stylist Lotta Agaton. Sustainable wooden furniture from Nikari Finnish brand Nikari had largely escaped my radar before now, but I was very taken with the way it combines modern design with traditional craftsmanship. I was also impressed by its commitment to sustainability, which extends as far as powering its head office, studio and workshop with renewable energy from the hydro-power plant located next door. Its pared-back wooden pieces encompass creations from the likes of Alvar Aalto, Jasper Morrison and Claesson Koivisto Rune, and are made from responsibly sourced wood finished with natural lacquers. New for 2020 is the understated ‘Storia’ stool, designed by Nikari founder Kari Virtanen, and Jenni Roininenat’s ‘Basic’ table, which comes with round or rectangular ends. Both are understated and timeless, and I can see them fitting seamlessly into all sorts of different settings. All-new accessories from &tradition As well as displaying its recently launched pieces by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard Nielsen, &tradition unveiled ‘Collect’, a line of elegant and understated home accessories created by Space Copenhagen. Designed to complement the Danish brand’s range of classic and contemporary furniture and lighting, it includes cushions, throws and bedspreads in earthy hues such as beige, burgundy and terracotta. All are made from soft and cosy natural materials, with linen and merino wool alongside organic cotton. There’s also a series of hand-crafted concrete planters, which can be used indoors and out and come in three different sizes. The full collection should be available very soon, although prices have yet to be confirmed. The ‘Roadie’ bench from Massproductions Last but not least is Sweden-based Massproductions, whose new ‘Roadie’ outdoor bench was named ‘Best Product’ in the fair awards. The creation of the brand’s British co-founder Chris Martin, it was inspired by the steel crowd control barriers found at rock concerts and is made from strong yet lightweight aluminium. The high back is designed for comfort, and the curved shape means sections can be placed together in a circle to encourage conversation; it’s also stackable for easy storage. It comes in brushed silver, pale yellow and dark green finishes, and matching seat cushions are available. Prices start at €2,060. FLEXIBLE COUCH IS A GLIMPSE OF FUTURE LIVING SYLE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bjarke Ingels is a movie big name of the architecture world, but he is also an artist and a trailblazing supply of idea that is going beyond the systems he builds. A decade in the past he commenced spreading the phrase on his philosophy of sustainable hedonism which bridges the space between environmentalism and luxury – they can coexist and Ingels showcases that in his work. What units him apart is that everything he creates has drawn inspirations from ideas, matters, artwork and even video games that are completely unrelated to what he's building however nonetheless shines through subtly. The brand new example to prove this point is the Voxel flexible couch for a Danish brand, Common Seating, that's a harmony of elements from Minecraft (which Ingels loves!), Q*bert video video games in addition to the work of Modernist architect Mies van der Rohe. The Voxel flexible couch is, in the only words, made to adapt to the environment and the person’s needs. Bjarke Ingel’s firm, BIG, appeared into how they design their architectural tasks like their Lego House, 79 & Park rental block and the 2016 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion when creating the modular sofa system. The group made a grid of pixel-like blocks to form the seats and called it Voxel. The call and aesthetic of the sofa come from the phrase’s real which means that is a graphic and interface design time period for ‘three-D pixel’. Voxel will look and mean something specific to each character consumer and space. Voxel may be moved, repaired, flipped, added directly to or reduced with ease primarily based on its surroundings. It represents the future of modern furniture – portions designed to serve the consumer with multiple functionalities with a form that fits in every room. The flexible couch gadget is constructed with four foremost components – armrests, backrests, seats, and legs, and all of these may be interchanged and assembled in a couple of ways. The pieces connect with simple metallic cylinders that slide into holes and deliver it its modular essence. “The grid-like system creates a circle of relatives of devices that may be configured into more than one seating scenarios, from single-unit couch to massive configurations,” says Jakob Lange, companion at BIG. With the fast evolution of our culture and lifestyle, Voxel has the ability to mildew itself organically to any ecosystem. The sofa’s design reduces waste via encouraging owners to trade or repair separate elements if needed, instead of throwing the whole piece out. Voxel is made on-call for and shipped directly from the workshop to make sure it handiest produces what is essential and manages waste responsibly. Voxel promotes Bjarke Ingel’s concept of flexibleness and sustainable dwelling in its very own didactic message of being able to alter and adapt to in which we are inside the moment with our middle values intact. Lang is going on to say, “If it were a person,  might be capable of move, flex and adapt to extraordinary configurations, making it agile in any environment – at home or at paintings – and responsive to any man or woman. The person can in reality develop and live with this sofa long-time period.” Ingels has usually viewed structure because the artwork and technological know-how of making matters that healthy the manner we need to stay our lives, it's miles a constant evolution of ideas. I’ll go away you with this thought stimulated by way of Bjarke Ingels – sustainability is not a moral sacrifice but a design undertaking and we have the gear to layout ecosystems that optimize the float of people, resources, economies even…so why now not deliver returned with the strength to create?. lovesac couch modular couch lovesac couch review lovesac sactionals lovesac couch sale lovesac price individual sectional sofa pieces sectional couch   Read the full article
