On This Day

1911

Further demonstrating the possibility of aircraft operating from ships, Eugene Ely successfully lands a Curtiss pusher aircraft on a wooden platform built on board the armored cruiser Pennsylvania (ACR-4) anchored in the San Francisco Bay, California. Hooks on his aircraft engage a series of ropes weighted down by sandbags, bringing the aircraft to a stop. After a brief time aboard, Ely takes off from the ship and returns to shore. Tragically, the young pilot dies a few months later, the victim of a crash during an aerial exhibition in Macon, Georgia.

1927

A formal course of instruction in aviation medicine is instituted with the assignment of Lieutenant Commander John R. Poppen to head the Aviation Section of the Naval Medical School in Washington, D.C. This marks the beginning of flight surgeon training in the U.S. Navy.

1977

The Navy conducts the first successful launch of a Trident C-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile at Cape Canaveral, Florida.

1991

The guided missile frigate Nicholas (FFG-47), operating with embarked Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron (Light) (HSL) 44 and a Kuwaiti patrol boat, engages and neutralizes Iraqi forces that are firing antiaircraft artillery and shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles at coalition aircraft from 11 Kuwaiti oil platforms in the northern Persian Gulf. In the first combined helicopter missile and surface ship gun engagement, five Iraqis are killed and three wounded. In addition, 23 Iraqis become the war’s first prisoners of war.

Namun La Pass Trek

The Namun La Pass Trek is the least frequented route within the Annapurna region of Nepal, taking adventurers through such varied landscapes as lush rhododendron forests and alpine terrain at high altitudes. The pass itself, located at an altitude of 4,850 meters, offers breathtaking views of both the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The route provides an ideal mix of cultural beauty and adventure challenges.

📅 Outline Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 2: Day 1: Kathmandu-Besisahar- Kapurgau by drive - Trek to Ghale Gaun ( 2016m./6652ft.) 2 hours walk

Day 3: Ghale Gaun-Rabrachu (3100m./10230ft.) 6 hours walk

Day 4: Rabrachu- Thorju (4500m./14850ft.) 6 hours walk

Day 5: Explore Dhudhpokhari ( Milky lake) ( 5300m./17490ft.) and the magnificent view of Mt. Manaslu and its surrounding. 

Day 6: Thorju-Namunla pass (4850m./16005ft.)- Danfe Kharka ( 4000m./13200ft.) 6 hours walk

Day 7: Danfe kharka- Timang ( 2630 m asl/ 8628 feet.) 6 hours walk

Day 8: Timang- Chamje 2,650 m (1430m/ 4691 feet)

Day 9: Chamje to Besi Sahar 760m (2493.44 Feet) and back to Kathmandu- 10 hour's drive
