[Album of the day] FORE - Skin

[Thoughts] FORE is a hardcore punk band formed by 2/3 members of the death metal band, Inhuman Condition: Jeramie Kling (drums) and Taylor Nordberg (guitar).* The band is completed with Brian "The Canadian Glen Hughes" Stephenson as both vocals and bassist. Every track on Skin is very much a punk song, but the influence from death metal instrumentalists pushes it in a complex direction for the punk genre. Skin retains the brevity of punk with enough rhythm switch-ups and catchy riffs to keep your attention. Like with all great crossover, I have a hard time sitting still listening to this album.

Feel free to let me know what you think about FORE's Skin*** or any other music I mention. My only goal on here is to create discussion about underground music, so go ahead and comment your favorite track or whatever.

* Inhuman Condition is also a power trio; the bassist, Terry Butler, is a current member of OSDM classic Obituary, and has a storied career playing in Death, Massacre, and Six Feet Under. Needless to say, Inhuman Condition became immediately popular in the underground death metal scene. Listen to their popular debut album, Rat°God.**

** While we're talking about Rat°God, I have to say that I love Dan Goldsworthy's album artwork and find much painting inspiration in it. Also, my favorite track is Tyrantula.

Réforme Marianique

Les réformes marianiques (ou réformes de Marius) sont un ensemble de réformes introduites dans l'armée romaine à la fin du IIe siècle avant notre ère par le général et homme politique romain Caius Marius (157-86 av. J.-C.). Grâce à ces réformes, l'armée romaine passa d'une milice semi-professionnelle à une force de combat professionnelle. Le système de manipule de l'ancienne légion polybienne fut aboli et remplacé par la cohorte. Les conditions basées sur la propriété pour le service militaire furent également supprimées. Selon l'historien Adrian Goldsworthy dans son livre In the Name of Rome, à la fin du 1er siècle avant notre ère, la politique, la société et l'armée romaines avaient profondément changé. "La carrière de Marius, et le désordre de son époque, était un symptôme de ces changements" (128).
