oh my god wait im intrigued by this au so much . please say more
hiiii hehe im gonna use this as an opportunity to properly introduce levels!!! heres a link to two other ictd posts that have background information - one and two ! :3
so, levels! levels are a categorization of the powers of people in hatchetfield. they rage from zero to ten. here are the basics:
10 - wiggly - a lord or lady. godly, designated to exactly six characters. level ten characters are lord wiggly, lord nibbly, lord tinky, lord blinky, lord pokey, and lady webby.
9 - lumberaxe - inhuman, gifted, but not godly. other level nine entities include evelyn metzger and the witchwood.
8 - uncle wiley - semi inhuman, strongly gifted. some are able to cross the black and white. not godly, still looks human. some have open, 24/7 communication with patron and other lords. another level eight character is miss holloway.
7 - hannah foster -often have open communication with patron and access to not only their own gift but their patrons power as well. likely semi inhuman. other level seven characters include: holly cross, sheila young and lars metzger.
6 - sophia - high level gift; usually unable to access patrons power, but can draw on their energy as use it as their own power. low communication. other level six characters include lex foster and daniel laine.
5 - ted spankoffski - semi-open communication/one sided communication with patron. no obvious gift power, but definitely gifted. another level five character is seaton monroe.
4 - linda monroe - obviously gifted, but not so much that it’ll ever do much in a day-to-day life without training and/or enhancements. another level four character is alex bailey.
3 - grace chasity - gifted, but without self-held power. often held as toys. other level three characters include steph lauter, pete spankoffski, and sherman young.
2 - ethan green - very low, almost unnoticeable level of the gift. cannot be trained to be useful on the daily. can be enhanced, but not by much. other level two characters include sam sweetly and solomon lauter.
1 - jeri - not gifted, but touched. another level one character is deb reynolds.
0 - blake shapiro - not gifted, not touched. normal human level. other level zero characters include matilda waylon, lucy stockworth and the entire town of clivesdale.
now, levels dont dictate which powers each person has- only their strength. for example, jeri has more powers than alice woodward, despite being several levels below her. alice just happens to be stronger.
anyway. uhm. i outlined 23 chapters of the mainfic today. are any of you proud of me

Sophia: This was the first season that James started directing on our show and he got so passionate about it. I remember he was starting to shadow the producers and starting to shadow Paul. When Nathan knocked on Brooke's door, I had this immediate sense memory moment. I had forgotten this until I saw the scene. James went and advocated to the writers that in all the connecting Nathan was doing with Quentin, we were missing the Nathan and Brooke being essentially the same characters in high school. We were missing them connect as grownups about their journey. He pitched that!
Joy: He did? I didn't know that!
Sophia: Yes, he pitched that. He was like, 'I think we're missing an opportunity and with this character having gone through this thing, this violence, I think it's weird that this man who's been in her life all this time who's the only person who knows her journey with toxic parents and whatever, isn't gonna talk to her about it.' And he was right.
Joy: So insightful.
Sophia: It was such a good scene. I remember now, he went and like argued... I mean, not argued, but had this great idea and they loved it and put it in the episode. He was directing before he was even directing. That's a cheat code. Having the confidence as an actor, 6 years into a job, to be like 'hey, if this was my real life with my real friends i've been working with for 6 years, I would immediately go check on this person. Why aren't we doing that on camera?' And they put it in the show! That boy deserves a writing credit.
Joy: Let's talk about that scene though because one of my notes is 'Everyone's acting like Brooke is acting normal' and it's really strange to me and I was so glad to see Nathan walk in and even though he didn't acknowledge flat out "Hey, you're being weird. This is beyond you just fell down the stairs" but he was preserving her pride and privacy and all those things she was clearly wanting to hold onto but also letting her know " Hey, i'm here for you" in a very real and important way beyond a suggestion of therapy, which was nice, but still not noticing what is really going on. Beyond "Here's your apartment key." He just dropped into a level of acknowledging that there was something deeper going on and I appreciated that.
Sophia: I did too and I liked that he was really gentle but he didn't-- like Nathan doesn't let Brooke get away with it. When she says "I'm fine. Really" his response is "That sounds like something i'd say" and then he goes into this whole thing "Yes, we've experienced a loss but it doesn't mean your problems are any less important" and then he reminds her like of their similar roads, their same cliques in high school, their parents who were like children. We were these bad versions of ourselves and look who we've become and I know how hard it is. I don't want you to isolate. I want you to come talk to me. I'm an ally here for you. I think there's something so important, interestingly because Brooke had this terrible relationship with her parents and they haven't been there for her and Nathan has had this terrible relationship with Dan but like Deb is finally showing up for him. He's able to show up for Brooke as the dad he is... Jamie's dad. I felt like he was being my father figure in this scene and it was so kind. Brooke's never had that.

The Nebraska Cornwhisker Scenario (U.S. Senate Edition)
As polling for incumbent Montana Senator Jon Tester (D) looks increasingly grim, it becomes increasingly hard to see how Democrats maintain control of the Senate this election. But because the universe's sadistic screenwriters love a good out-of-nowhere twist, there may be one last shot at reprieve from the most unlikeliest of places: Nebraska. Something really interesting is happening in Nebraska, where Dan Osborn, who is running as an independent, is leading incumbent Republican Deb Fischer in a couple of new polls. (Fischer is being hurt by among other things her decision to ignore her previous commitment not to run for a third term. Her explanation is that she just hadn’t realized that seniority is a thing in the US Senate.) Osborn, a former union leader, is pro-choice and anti-billionaire, which are two unacceptable positions in the contemporary GOP caucus, but still the best that can be hoped is that he would be more or less the Nebraska version of Joe Manchin. He’s promising not to caucus with either party, but that’s not realistic, given that caucusing is how committee assignments are handed out. If the Senate ends up 50 GOP 49 Dem and Osborn, and Harris wins, Osborn will be in a position to essentially hand control of the Senate to the Democrats, which of course will given him enormous negotiating leverage. Assuming Tester loses and the Dems hold all the other genuinely competitive seats, that will in fact be the split, so this is definitely a race to watch closely. While both campaigns are issuing dueling internal polls showing them ahead, Fischer hasn't led in an independent poll since August; the last independent poll of the race (at the end of September) had Osborn up five. If Osborn wins, I do think it is most likely he will end up caucusing with Democrats (after extracting some monster concessions) -- partially because it'd be weird to run against a Republican in the general and then caucus as a Republican, partially because that's what all the other recent "Independent" Senators have done. But I do wonder at the possibility that he tries to create some sort of centrist junta to run the show,  like we've seen in some state legislatures (Alaska, New York). It'd probably be Murkowski and Collins on the Republican side, Angus King on the Dem/Independent side -- maybe someone like Bob Casey joins them from the Democrats too? Hard to know the exact personnel. Obviously, from a Democratic vantage point such a setup would be (a) better than GOP control of the Senate and (b) worse than Democratic control of the Senate. But I'm inclined to think that such a setup would be closer to better for Democrats (though I may be unduly influenced by just how catastrophic full GOP control of the Senate would be). It would probably mean that more ambitious Democratic priorities (including things like DC statehood) would be DOA. But I do think it would mean that a President Harris could get (most of) her cabinet and other major appointees through, which is not something we can take for granted under Republican rule. At the very least, it would enable a semi-functioning government, which is a lot more than we can say if Republicans control the Senate and decide to filibuster absolutely everything. via The Debate Link https://ift.tt/o7eQTVK

Remember this name: Dan Osborn
If you live in the US, you should care about the Senate race in Nebraska this fall because something amazing is happening. The race is tight between Republican incumbent Deb Fischer, supported by PACs and lobbyists, and an independent, Dan Osborn, a labor union leader, mechanic, and Navy veteran. In 2021, Osborn led a strike that shut down four Kellogg's plants for 77 days and was able to get a collective bargaining agreement signed, despite attempts by management to hire scabs.
I've heard Dan speak, and it really struck me how straightforward and genuine he was. He doesn't churn out political bluster in response to questions: he answers like a real human speaking from life experience. Someone asked about his priorities, and one of them was inflation. He recalled how Kellogg's made them retrofit equipment to fill smaller bags and boxes of cereal to sell at the same price. He mentioned corruption and tied it back to his time in the Navy, realizing the military was vastly overpaying to stock regular commissary goods. He'll answer any question you throw at him with serious consideration. He's pro-labor, pro-abortion, pro-gun control. True, he doesn't have experience in politics, but I kind of feel like that's a good thing. He's humble enough to know that and to surround himself with knowledgable advisors. He is unafraid of long hard work, having done nonstop 12+ hour days in the factory as an essential worker during the beginning of the pandemic.
Dan has pledged to turn down all corporate money—even those that align with his values, like from some green energy groups that had wanted to support him. Instead, all his finances come from individual donors. The campaign's average donation is something like $34. They've raised over a million dollars so far.
To me, Dan Osborn seems a natural leader who has lived a working class life and wants to advocate for change. I think he truly embodies the ideal of representative government.
There have been two polls, showing Osborn neck-and-neck or ahead of Fischer. Of course, polls are just an estimate. All that matters is voting. If you live in Nebraska, make sure you and the people you know have a plan to vote. Help out with rides if you can. If you live elsewhere, you can DONATE to the campaign or volunteer to phone bank. Every bit helps.

Kos at Daily Kos:
Democrats currently have a 51-49 majority in the United States Senate, meaning that Republicans need just a two-seat pickup to retake the chamber in a year in which the terrain heavily favors them.  Democrats have a guaranteed loss in West Virginia, where Sen. Joe Manchin, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, has called it quits. There is little high-quality polling in Montana’s Senate race, but 538’s polling average shows Democratic incumbent Jon Tester down nearly 4 percentage points.
As such, Democrats need to pick up at least one Republican-held seat to hold a 50-50 majority in a potential Kamala Harris administration. And when the two best Democratic opportunities are Florida and Texas, things look dark.  But there could be a third option, and one that no one saw coming.  Nebraska.  Donald Trump won the deep-red Cornhusker State by 19 points in 2020, but the Senate race is strange this cycle. There is no Democrat in the race. Instead, Sen. Deb Fischer is facing independent Dan Osborn, a union leader in Omaha. And the polling has been bizarre. A new poll by SurveyUSA for Osborn’s campaign gives him a narrow 1-point lead over Fischer. That’s slightly up from a month ago, when a SurveyUSA poll for the election site Split Ticket gave Fischer a 1-point lead. Both results are well within the polls’ margins of error, but the fact that the race is remotely close is unexpected, to say the least.
SurveyUSA’s polls aren’t the only ones that show a close race, either. While a July poll from Torchlight Strategies for Fischer’s campaign gave her a 26-point lead, all four of the polls since then show the candidates in basically a statistical tie. Three of the polls were funded by Osborn or a PAC that supports him—but each poll is from a firm that 538 lists as among the top 15 best pollsters.  Even more odd, though? All four recent polls show Fischer’s support between 39% and 44%. And given that Osborn is getting similar numbers, it means there’s a strangely large amount of undecided voters in this race.  So what the heck is going on?  Put a “D” next to Osborn’s name, and all the polling would surely look like Fischer’s internal poll. But Osborn is running as an labor-focused independent and hasn’t clarified which party he’d caucus with, if elected.
Nebraska, a state you’d expect a Republican to breeze through easily and win, could be in a for a blockbuster Senate contest, as Independent candidate Dan Osborn is giving incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer (R) a big scare.

literally no one else can be around us when my sister and i watch one tree hill. our commentary is insane. we are also too nuanced for others to understand (our big juicy empathetic hearts for dan scott, while also easily condemning him when we feel like it jskfdkf) also it is always roast lucas hour and praise brooke hour. also also, we will regularly scream I HATE THIS SHOW WHO MADE THIS SHOW MARK SCHWAHN WHEN I GET YOU. this is, in fact, our favorite show. but fuck that guy.
