🌱 Hopeful eyes behind the masks says it all!! COVID-19 has quickly changed the world as we previously knew it. And while there are not enough words to describe times like these, we find comfort in the fact that we’re all in this together. Fifth grade science teacher, Ms. Horton loves introducing new ways of learning with her students and we love staying connected with our schools and providing students with fun and exciting STEM related projects! Cowboys and Cowgirls and Texas turned Angelenos, at the Maroon 5 Halloween Party

The other night I wrote about all of the friends in the @Maroon5 #M5Halloween world who have ended up being so special to me on so many fronts...and, I mentioned a few I’ve worked with. This is the guy I was thinking of specifically when I referred to someone casting me in their movies. Jake. Jakey Jake Helgren - the most prolific artist I know and the most kind, generous, thoughtful and FUN writer and director you’ll ever meet.

A few years ago, Jake messaged me saying he had written a part and asking if I knew “someone” who could play it. It was basically a caricatured version of me. I told him I was in, and he ended up bringing back to life a dream I wasn’t sure I would get to dream again. Now, 3 years later, we’ve dreamed it together for 4 films and he’s even written parts - and, expanded parts - with me in mind. SWOON.💗 I’ve been in 4 of this dreamboat director’s movies and I am SO friggin’ proud of all he has accomplished. Many people dream it. But not many people do it. And, Jake is the kind of talented soul who dreams it, does it and then looks around him for other dreamers...and helps them DO it, too.

And, maybe it’s because we’re fellow native Texans-turned-Angelenos... Or, maybe it’s because we’re both Sagittarians... Or, maybe it’s because we love giving our friends work... Or, maybe it because we show up in almost-matching Halloween costumes and dance and laugh and have fun all night long... But, I’m just feeling awfully grateful for Jake tonight - because Jake is the kind of guy who makes me remember the magic of Hollywood I fell in love with as a little 4-year-old girl in Dallas watching the Oscars...and, makes me believe that even my biggest, most unrealistic dreams just might come true. Because, see? He’s already made some of those dreams come true for me.📺🎬 Next? I’m crossing my fingers for a musical.🎤😂🎬

Have you met Aisha Young? Well, if not, you need to know that she is our Junior Photographer and many of the social media photos are taken by her. @aishaolivia24 was one of the first to join our fitness after-school program when we partnered with the Oak Cliff Boys & Girls Club five years ago. Today, Aisha is a FFL Ambassador and official Junior Photograper! • • Aisha attends South Oak Cliff High School and she is a member of the girl’s basketball team. From the very first time we placed a camera in her hands she came alive with super excitement to capture the essence of #FFL activities. Last year she took 1500+ photos for our first donor souvenir book from our DiscoverU21 Vision tour to New York City. Aisha has college plans for graphic design/photography and she has already started perfecting her skills! Now: All my life growing up I have been told that children are the future! WRONG! Children are the now. They are being taught and raised to combat the future yes, but they are the brains of now. Children may have a lot going on in their own head on how they believe the world should be. As creative and indicated as they are now, should be taught how to hone in on those skills for a brighter now. They are going to take over the work as adult, but if they are not taught now how to use said creative innovated and mindfulness of others now, they will turn into the jerk people we don’t like today! Children are the now! Make raising them count. They are loving kind innocent straight forward creative silly burst of energy never sit sill always curious and and questions. THEY ARE AMAZING IF YOU LET THEM BE KIDS INSTEAD OF LITTLE ADULTS! They are meant to get into things cause, small and little, chaos!!
