I heard someone calling it wakidate, because of the characters being created in Japan and the wakidate is apart of a Samurai helmet (kabuto). ur so expressive with them & it makes him look like he has cute bunny ears :o

Corrupted Tzen armor - 3D Model

Hi, It has been a while, once again! Sometimes, I am not sure what to share on Tumblr. I will try to keep sharing about my 3D journey. The next episode of Untold Tale of Pandaria (Pandaria Monogatari) is running well. The progress has been a bit slower than expected because of the sleeves that are custom and a nightmare to animate.

Talking about "nightmare", we finally arrived at That part that I wanted to give a try for a long time: a short horrific Japanese ghost movie! I am a huge fan of the Fatal Frame game series, and I also really enjoy the tones of Asian ghost stories and movies.

(Note: This gif features a yokai, not a yurei or an onryo. But it is the less scary I found) In the machinima, I feel like I have the unique opportunity to play around with this! The whole scene in this Kaiki eiga style will be released apart to not scare the audience. Also, from the lesson learned from the prologue, I need to avoid multiple intrigues, to keep the narrative flow clear enough. So we will briefly see ghosts (many more elaborated and diverse models than below), and see later whom they torment and how they proceed.

This long digression being done... Let's talk about the new model I made and its lore! (Finally) I have had the draft idea of this armor for a long time! In the lore of the machinima, the Tzen armor is a centuries-old artifact of the eponymous clan. It is thought to have been partly destroyed, just like most of the belongings of the disposed clan. The last warrior thought to have owned and worn the armor was Tho's father. Although Mei-Phang claimed that they saw it, altered but complete, in Tho's bedroom, during their teenage years (so about a decade after the execution of all the Tzen patriarchs). The armor is considered an artifact because it changes with the owner's will and absorbs the chi around, accordingly. The Tzen identified themselves with the Mountains of the South that can bring prosperity or devastation. The armor thus "embodies" that ambivalence.

In the prologue, we could foresee that Tho chose a path of destruction, realizing way too late the disaster he'd caused.

But this had consequences. And notably on the Tzen armor. In the "Notes about the Untold Tale" (written by one of my lorewalker OC, Wen-Long) states that the Tzen armor got corrupted with so much bad chi that it started wandering by night, more likely seeking for revenge. Older Mei-Phang would have to relocate their students, when the armor started causing a big safety concern. Yet, the armor never attacked Mei directly, unless they wear the official kimono of the Zhu clan.

The customization work on this armor was pretty simple and straightforward. I started from an existing Huojin sentinel model that I rediscovered while playing (Han-zhu) on the PTR. (On the screenshot, you can see a hint regarding one of Han-zhu's first names, btw... :D).

The original mesh of the model had few refinements to attenuate the plate-looking style. I then worked on the main additions: -add a wakidate on the kabuto (helmet) -refine the sode (shoulder pads) - add a kusazuri and a haidate (lower part) These additions were very simple but they gave a nice silhouette. I improved my retopology and seam marking, so the work on the kusazuri/haidate was much less painful than on Han-zhu's samurai armor in the prologue! The main work on this armor was the texturing that was almost completely remade from scratch. First I wanted Tho's eyes to be visible beyond the menpo (mask), but it looked like he was squinting, like, way too much! And it really messed up the frightening aura of the armor! XD

So I decided to keep the eyes red-glowing and add Tho's "emblematic" red scarf, instead.

Mengharap Hal yang Bagus, Sebagus Angka 11-11-11

CANTIK. Begitu kata banyak orang terhadap tanggal-bulan-tahun di Jumat (11/11) ini.

Bagaimana tidak? Peristiwa langka seperti ini, mungkin tidak sering terjadi. Jadi, sudah sadarkah Anda dengan apa yang dimaksud peristiwa langka dalam hal ini?

Ya, hal ini mengenai serupanya deretan angka sebagai penanda waktu di hari ini. Tanggal 11, bulan ke 11, dan tahun 2011. Well, 11-11-11. Memang tidak berlebihan jika orang-orang menjulukinya sebagai angka atau tanggal cantik. Dan, tidak salah juga, jika banyak yang menyebutkan bila ini peristiwa yang langka karena deretan bilangan penanda masa itu tidak setiap tahun terjadi. Momen. Mungkin itu hal yang tepat untuk menyebutkan sesuatu yang cantik dan langka ini.

Momen seperti ini banyak dimanfaatkan banyak orang untuk memeriahkan atau merayakan sesuatu. Pernikahan salah satunya.

Banyak orang yang ingin sekali menikah di hari ini karena merasa ini merupakan momen yang tepat untuk mengabadikan sesuatu. Pernikahan merupakan peristiwa sakral pasangan manusia untuk menyatukan segalanya. Hati, keluarga, dan cinta. Maka, tidak heran bila banyak orang ingin merayakannya hari ini. Mungkin, mereka itidak ingin kehilangan momen 11-11-11. Yah, tanggal cantik gitu lho.

“Awalnya, keluargaku dan keluarga pacarku merencanakan untuk mengadakan pernikahan pada Minggu, 13 November 2011. Tapi, ada inisiatif dari keluarga pacarku, bagaimana kalau dimajukan saja jadi tanggal 11. Aku setuju saja. Biar ada momennya. Kan tanggal bagus,” ungkap Windy Ayu Wulandari yang menikah pada hari ini di kediamanya di Boyolali, Jawa Tengah, bersama pasangannya, Muslich Ibnu Wakid, Jumat (11/11).

Ya, lagi-lagi momen yang diincar para pasangan yang menikah di hari ini. Penanda waktu 11-11-11. Angka yang sama. Banyak dianggap orang sebagai hal yang bagus. Sebagai angka yang bagus, orang-orang pun mengharapkan mendapatkan sesuatu yang bagus juga jika merayakan sesuatu di hari ini. Termasuk di dalamnya pernikahan yang langgeng.

“Hari ini memang banyak orang yang menikah. Jumlahnya relatif banyak dari hari-hari biasa. Terhitung, Jumat ini ada 30 pasangan yang menikah, full dari pagi sampai sore. Padahal, ini hari Jumat. Biasanya, karena waktunya pendek, jarang ada yang menikah hari Jumat. Namun, hari ini banyak. Mungkin karena tanggalnya bagus. Jadi banyak yang menikah hari ini,” kata penghulu di Kantor Urusan Agama Kecamatan Setiabudi, Jakarta Selatan, Ardaman.

Jadi, adakah yang ingin merayakan pernikahan juga di hari ini? Mumpung belum berganti hari, ayo lekas ke KUA terdekat. Momen langka dan bagus seperti ini, pasti lama sekali akan terulang.

A kawari kabuto (exotic helmet) with wings, Momoyama-Early Edo period, 16th-17th century. 

A tall toppei (rounded cone shape) russet iron helmet of Nanban (Southern Barbarian - foreign) style, of three plates joined with ridges seated within riveted iron bands with irregularly-shaped borders of stylized sea waves, a further such band around the base of the helmet bowl, iron hachimanza (decorative surround to the aperture at the crown) of symmetrical foliate form from which a sphere and spike fixture rises to support a red horsehair plume, gold-lacqueredmaedate (fore-crest) of a chigai-sumikiri kaku mon (badge of linked squares with cutaway corners), wakidate (lateral crests) at the rear in the form of large insect's wings with fine translucent textile, iron riveted mabisashi (brim) with two cutaway arcs for vision, four tier black lacquered (plain sheet) iron shikoro (neck guard), the lower tier clad with crinkled leather, the fukigaeshi (turned-back portions) with twig-like strips of gold lacquer.

Kawari Kabuto

The skull is made up from 13 individual russet plates, the internal edges of which are beautifully shaped and bevelled where they rivet together. The shape is that of a Chinese cap having five convex sections that meet in a transverse ridge across the head. Around the brim are separate plates imitating the peak and turned up lower edge of the cap. These are bordered by applied strips and decorated with elaborate iron cut outs, all splashed with sawari. This decoration takes the form of dragons on either side of the bowl and a butterfly bordered by chrysthanthemums and foliage on the peak. Attached just above the peak is a small brass tsunamono whilst two iron tsunamono for wakidate are rivetted to the koshimaki just behind the rear edges of the peak. Still attached to the bowl is the top lame of the shikoro, of iron covered with lacquered textured leather. At the front this is turned outwards to form small fukigayeshi covered with printed leather and bordered with heavy chiselled shakudo fukurin. The fukigayeshi is decorated by a gilt mon of three stars above a horizontal bar on a nanako background. the same mon is used for the heads of the three remaining rivets that attached the shikoro to the bowl.
