camilabilly vs daisybilly discourse actually surprised me at first because when i read the book i thought the point was that feelings are complicated and life is complicated and billy and camila could have a healthy loving relationship and billy and daisy could be insanely good matches for each other as well. and camilabilly were together and daisybilly werent and couldnt and it was just all very sad but its a logical ending. u dont get to love in concrete terms

Show!DaisyCamila: “what’s going on with you and my HuSbAnD?!?” “He’s yours YoU wOn!1!”
Book!DaisyCamila: “Daisy, just know that I’m rooting for you. I want you to get clean, take of yourself… I want good things for you. I want you to be happy.” “Camila Dunne thought I was worth saving.” *sends each other love letters in 40 years time.. Cami keeps Daisy number in her nightstand*
#or i could have just written men writing women vs women writing women#daisy jones and the six#daisy x camila#camila dunne#i read the book now i’m more mad lmao#daisy and camila were not friends but they cared about and respected each other deeply as women even with the billy drama#also karen and eddie deserved their exact book ending (i thought maybe they gave eddie petes ending but nah everyone got a satisfying life#but the show made eddie a failed musician to make billy look good bc good forbid eddie be more successful careerwise#sidenote julia sleeping in daisys bed was so cute?? i would have loved to see it on screen

I just need to analyze the Daisy and Billy kisses for a minute here cuz the brainrot is so real.
In the book, Daisy and Billy kiss one time. Singular. Daisy initiates, and he pulls away. In the show, they kiss three times and Billy basically initiates all three of them and I cannot stop thinking about them.
1. When Daisy storms out of the "More Fun To Miss" recording. In the book, this moment is the "Impossible Woman" song everyone assumed Billy had written about her. And, while Billy admits it was inspired by her drug abuse, he maintains he wrote it about his own drug addiction. But he did write it for her to sing and encouraged her to dig deep and not care how pretty she sounded to make sure the song came out like he intended. I am biased because this was my favourite part in the book.
On the show, this is the moment Daisy confronts him about their tension, demanding some confirmation that she isn't imagining it. and he uses this moment to kiss her so she will get back in the studio. He manipulates her confusion and her feelings to get her to record the song but never does her the courtesy of actually addressing the question she asked. Especially when he later admits that what he did was just a tactic. Whether or not it was, he saw it as a tactic at the time and told her so when she asked.
2. Camila has left him after confronting him about his feelings for Daisy-- which never happens in the book. Because it was not so much an issue of Billy cheating with Daisy in the book as it was him breaking his sobriety, and Daisy was an extension of that temptation. So on the show, Camila has left him and he has broken his sobriety. Daisy asks him backstage before the final show if he likes her makeup and his response is to gaze at her with a new sense of purpose and grab her and kiss her, because he can have her now. Because Camila left him and he has already had a drink. He is imagining slipping back into the rock star lifestyle with Daisy by his side. And this is my favourite kiss on the show. He's saying we don't have to dance around it now, you don't have to play coy in stolen moments, we can have each other now for real because this is what i want.
3. After the performance, before the Look At Us Now encore, the truth comes out. He and Daisy are kissing backstage and she stops to ask what this is because she realizes this can't be real life, that something is wrong. He explains that Camila left and then he takes a bump of coke and Daisy sees that she is just another aspect of Billy's downfall. they are not actually supposed to be together and she isn't what he wants so much as total self-destruction is. So she puts an end to this before it really begins and forces Billy to do the right thing and not allow himself to slip any further, even though being with him is exactly what she wants. Because being with him like this is not what she ever meant when she wanted them to be together.
And i really hate a lot of how this show changed core elements from the book. I really don't like how Camila was portrayed. I don't think the essence of this "love triangle" was captured properly. But holy fuck, those three kisses did all the heavy lifting in the context of the story this show was telling. And they were so emotional and hot.

it just clicked for me that the way more fun to miss is impossible woman you were gone is turn it off two against three is a hope like you etc. the river is supposed to be chasing the night at least partly
#s speaks#djats#at Least I think it is#I was looking at the book lyrics again because I might use them for a thing#it is really interesting to me that a song so clearly about db has water association but it’s coded as dark shadowy deep the night etc.#vs the book Fire vs monologue where Camila is water=pure light etc#you could say that it’s because Daisy thinks of Billy as her water even when he’s not but the song is them writing to/speaking to#each other it’s a conversation#I lurv it but it’s such an interesting choice#they went Aurora=light River=dark#‘I was running from your light to the shadows of the East’ ‘if I follow you to the river and oh your shadows they run so deep’#and they kept the Daisy=Fire thing in other places#idk use of light vs dark imagery in the show itself and the lyrics in the album I am Thinking#also I saw someone say they thought the river was the song that in that scene Daisy changes the whole song except for one line Billy wrote#if so I want that confirmed by someone and I want to know what the line was because that changes everything (I’m obsessive and deranged)

I know it's too late and maybe no one tells you this, but I'm reading Daisy Jones and The Six and at times I think that Eddie didn't have something with Camila; but that Eddie and Pete had something secret or something.
Or he could have both at some point. Who knows?
Edit: FORGET IT, I REREADED AND REALIZED THEY ARE BROTHERS.

i’m a bit too hungover to fully articulate this the way i want to but
there’s something about camila dragging billy to that party where he’s immediately offered alcohol because she’s never truly seen his addiction for what it is vs daisy staying in his tour bus with him because she understands that they’re fighting the same struggle
there’s something about camila not really having any clue why billy needs daisy so much to the point where she has to ask if daisy’s a better lover than her vs daisy inherently understanding why billy had to choose his family despite never having a family of her own
there’s something about camila never intervening in the billy/eddie conflict in all those years vs daisy showing up and immediately telling billy that aurora needed to be eddie’s project too
there’s something about billy writing the same songs over and over with camila vs daisy forcing him out of his songwriting comfort zone leading to him writing the most personal and beautiful songs of his career
something something daisy allowed him to be the truest version of himself while camila let him hide behind the idealized version something something billy ultimately chose camila because he wanted to be the man that she saw instead of the complicated mess that daisy understood him to be
#daisy jones and the six#daisybilly#daisy jones#billy dunne#essay in the tags incoming so hol up#so listen i feel like ppl say that camila is the healthier or outright better option for billy but what they actually mean#is that she's the easiest option#billy doesn't have to acknowledge that he's an addict with camila because she doesn't acknowledge it either#he doesn't have to address his control issues or his conflict with eddie or the ways that he messes up outside his marriage#but then daisy pops up out of nowhere and acts as a mirror to his true self#and he hates her for it#and yet he also loves her for it because there's something so holy in being seen for the first time#but among other things billy dunne is-- respectfully-- kind of a coward#being with camila means that he can pretend to be the man she wants him to be#he can even pretend that it comes naturally#with daisy there's nothing to hide behind or pretend#there's only him and her and the truth between them#and for a man like billy that's the most terrifying thing he can imagine#i am a ~daisybilly is healthier in the long term than c*millabilly~ truther and i cannot be silenced

I don't usually do this, but here're my notes on this week episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six:
— My main criticism for the show is that the format of an interview and all of big changes could be executed way cleverer and cooler if they were showing us what's really happened and simultaneously characters were narrating redacted and cleaned version of events literally quoting the book.
— In general I don't mind the changes and I like Daisy and Billy chemistry a lot. But I also can't help but wish they would keep the UST boiling for a little longer so that scene could have been a peak of desperation.
— Every time Daisy is being a little shit and enjoying the mess she makes I love her with the power of thousands suns.
— Eddie and Cami is my favorite couple in the show and considering that Eddie vs Billy sausage contest was for me the most annoying part of the book, it's pretty ironic.
— The whole Billy's "It is about the music!" gives me weird Lord Asriel vibes. In a way he's putting so much energy and effort into his music as an act of escape from complicated emotions to the point that he come across as slightly sociopathic. Better father though.
— Camila is the milf of the year. We stan.
— It's very enjoyable how show subtly makes female friendships the moving force behind big parts of the story.
— At this point I honestly can't fully judge anyone and I just want this stupid people to be happy.
— Warren is the love of my life.

infamous has taken over my brain so can i ask if you have any media similar to it, that could’ve been inspo to you or just vibes, as a recommendation ?? i just watched daisy jones and the six that got my brain vibrating on a higher frequency, which btw i might be remembering wrongly but you mentioned it perhaps? i searched but tumblr isn’t working properly or i dont know how to use it
anyways while i’m here, i love your story and thank you for writing it i will never be the same <3 !! sorry if i rambled i could probably write an essay thanking you for having a really brilliant mind to write this but i shall spare you for now
im answering this so late so sorry but hi ! yes I did mention daisy jones! I mentioned my inspos a few times but to reiterate they were:
daisy jones and the six (the love...triangle? between daisy, billy and camila inspired g and vic's routes)
coyote ugly
Scott pilgrim vs the world (especially brie Larson's cover of black sheep)
nick and Norah's infinite playlist
I consumed all of those ^ in one weekend and so it kinda forced the idea of infamous in my head since they were all music related! fun times heh

Djats beauty: part One.
Aka when my teen cousin (16) ask silly things about our shared fandoms (Djats and Twilight ) and then I transform It into a social genre experiment XD
Disclaimer : No animals were harmed during this process...though a (my) family was bothered with the superficial questions of a teen... helped by the too curious Adult (aka me) XD.
It was also my experiment , to see if men and women find the same people pretty in the same way...I'm very serious about this kinds of experiments.
Part One : Which of the Djats Girls Its prettier (show) ? (I may post the same question for you at my 2nd Poll, you're warned)
We took as pretty source the actors and the actresses playing the characters : Daisy , Camila , Karen , Simone, Lisa, Bernie and (Adult) Julia.
We divided It into categories (I told you very serious about It XD) : Eyes, face, hair , body, skin, and finally : as a whole.
Eye : (color + size + shape)
*In Spain usually blue eyes win (less quantity = more votes). Also bigger eyes are more liked.
Women : Daisy, Lisa, Karen, Camila, Julia, Bernie, Simone.
Men: Daisy, Karen, Lisa, Camila, Bernie, Simone.
Winner : Daisy.
Face :
Women coincided and said : Daisy, because of her huge Smile ("Smile so contagious , she makes you Smile too"). Karen was the second one. Simone the third. Lisa was the fourth, Camila the fifth, Bernie the sixth and Julia was the last.
Men : Daisy, her expression IS cheeky and very sexy. Karen was second, Camila the third, Lisa , Simone, Bernie and Julia.
Winner: Daisy
Body :
first difference here :
Women : Camila , then Daisy , then Karen.
Women considered the thinnest and tallest combo ones as best 🙄.
Men : Daisy , Karen , Camila.
Here the men voted rounder curves combined with...shorter height. My cousin said that he liked women to be rather shorter than him (he is 1'78) so...Daisy.
Winner was (after counting points, as she got more points of both genres) : Daisy.
Hair : The fight here was between exotic & uncommon natural hair colors in Spain : Karen and Daisy.
According to my people dark hair Its too common for being the prettiest 🙄 so no Camila, Lisa, Simone...etc
Again It changed according to genres :
Women voted Daisy then Karen
Men voted Karen cause and i quote "Blondes are the best".
Winner : Karen.
Skin: We took into account the actresses real age VS their skin appearance to judge , the glow , the color shade (uniformness and health) and the texture (acné, wrinkles...) to vote...When i tell you this was super pro XD.
Women voted tied...between Karen (1992) and Julia - 1991. Then Daisy.
Men voted all Karen, then Daisy and then Julia. Rest were Simone, then Bernie and Lisa , finally Camila.
Also none of them believed Julia was born in 1991 (Dad: wtf she looks 18, 21 at most!).
My dad thought all of them were in their 20's just like me, not in their thirties...On a bad note : They all coincided and said they were surprised Camila was the second youngest of all the women (1997) including Adult Julia (1991), and that Camila looked older than all of them :(
Winner : Karen.
As a whole : Drumroll : tied between Daisy & Karen.
Cool, but not surprising...Blondes and Redheads always wins XD

okay, I never knew ppl villainized Camila until I just saw I post that called her b*tchy. If anything, Daisy was. Idk, it's like every fandom I get into, ppl say s*it about characters who "get in the way" of their ship. Daisy was the problem. I'm just so tired of characters being villified. The same thing happened with Wanda in the MCU.
Never underestimate people's ability to hate on a female character. You know how it's said that nothing is certain but death and taxes? Well I changed it to death, taxes and misogyny. I even have a tag for it!
If anything, Camila should have been bitchier. The show made her a snivelling mess at times, but she was not one to take shit. The line in the book, "no offence but I never want to see you again" (with little Julia in her arms) was one of the best things I've ever read, the show cutting this scene out and replacing it with... well, what they did, is criminal. But I've said enough about that.
I stay away from fandoms, after I got it too deep into the Game of Thrones one (and hoo boy, that one is full of misogynists). So I just watch the stuff and stay in my own little bubble. With Marvel, I just watch whatever they throw at me and don't think about it too much. (Now I don't even do that as I'm sooo behind, I've not even seen this Deadpool vs Wolverine film yet. I'll catch up. One day. Hopefully, lol.) I have to admit that the WandaVision series left me with some complicated feelings, bc I liked it during its run, I liked how they showed grief (the line "what is grief if not love persevering" must be one of the best lines in the whole franchise), but at the end, it made this impression on me that Wanda was good bc she had kids and Agatha was bad bc she didn't. And once I get into that mindset, I can't get out of it. (You see now why Karen Sirko matters to me so much.) I think I've seen a little bit of discourse about Wanda, but not a lot. I just follow one blog that posts Marvel gifs and that's it.
There is a lot to talk about female characters and how they're perceived, we could discuss it all year long and then start again on new year's day. Saying all this, though, I do hate some female characters myself. Sometimes you just hate things. Not villainesses, I don't hate villains, when I hate characters it's bc they're annoying or stupid. But I don't think one should feel obliged to like a female character just bc she's a woman either.
#answered#camila dunne#death taxes and misogyny#this is a bit incoherent but there is a lot more i could have said#but it was getting too long#all my answers to asks are so long why the hell can't i just reply with one sentence

oh my god IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT KIDS!!
Daisy: My parents didn't want kids. My mother especially. So I went from being an accident to an inconvenience to an afterthought, and then I think the worst thing of all.
Camila: Which is what?
Daisy: Competition. (meaningful pause and knowing stare) But you know, all parents fuck their kids up.
Camila: That's true.
Daisy: I don't really want to be responsible for that to somebody else.
Camila: And that's why you won't.
I knew the "competition" bit was a double meaning about Billy on the first watch.. but this watch thru I realized the not wanting to be responsible for fucking someone's life up part. Don't know how i missed that before. She's literally telling Camila she doesn't want to ruin Billy's sobriety and their marriage. And Camila is acknowledging it, and reminding her she needs to make conscious choices and act with intention instead of just getting swept up in the moment.

I like the contrasting scenes with Daisy and Camila alone in their car, Daisy has her moment of being Haunted By Visions tm of Billy’s gaze/affection then writing the song to express her feelings, Camila looking in her mirror and fixing herself up, bottling up her feelings to go to Billy.
#(Daisy is the performer but she feels most her real self and most authentic with Billy vs Camila only needs to perform around him)#and Daisy scattering everything in her purse because she’s so passionate to the point of being scattered#vs Camila putting herself together deliberately#s rewatches djats#s speaks#Daisy Jones#Camila Dunne#also love the modern day gothic heroine vibe of Daisy’s scene

How’d you like the show?! I agree it was very differnt I consider them two different pieces of media myself
I think the changes suited the show but I find it a shame that two of my favorite camila scenes were cut or lacked the impact they had in the book :,)
Oh oh anon get ready for a rant! My thoughts about differences film vs book:
Okay so far I'm liking the show because I'm seeing it as a total different thing, but overall I wouldn't say that the show is better whatsoever, and most of the changes just don't make sense regarding the story of the book.
One of the things is that the book READS like a show, like a false documentary, and I think it would have been so interesting to maintain the main aspects of it: the unreliability, the shorter scene cuts (can we talk about Warren's obsession with Karen fucking Bones?! And how I was laughing every time he came up with it and then Graham kept like telling how he was fucking Karen?) and, overall, the severity in which they spoke all the time. The book had you hooked not because you knew it would end badly (how the series puts it) but because you didn't know the truth. I truly don't understand how you have a great base material for a show and you don't stick to it. Even in said dialogues... The dialogues in the book are just BETTER. Use them!
What they did to some characters doesn't make sense to me, or it's another series completely. Getting rid of Pete, although Pete just gives his version at the end (I actually thought, in the book, that he had died before giving the interview, similarly to Chuck) makes sense in a casting point of view but, again, it diminishes the resentment the band has towards those days. The relationship between Graham and Karen doesn't feel organic: why does Carol appear? In the book, Graham and Karen know each other A LONG TIME before Karen develops feelings, and it's not because she is suddenly jealous. God, that is... just not Karen! Karen who always wants to be an assured woman, who really calls the shots... To fall into this cliché again... Also: Eddie. Why, why is he in love with Camilla? For God's sake, it's easy enough to hate Billy! In the book, I hated Billy too. But in the show, they put him like the two goody-shoes, talented front man who messes up constantly and yes, okay, he's a little bit narcissistic BUT in the book he is INCREDIBLY narcissistic and that's why Eddie can't stand him. What they did to Camilla... I am raging. Camilla is the mother SUPERIOR in the book. She is caring and understanding but also not afraid of anything, and similarly to Karen, she calls the shots the majority of the time. I feel like they got rid of so many Camilla scenes in which she says that she chooses this path with Billy but Billy also chooses this path with Camilla. Their love in the book is not romantic, is not a triangle, because Billy knows what's at stake and doesn't want to lose it. And Daisy—Daisy was already famous when she met The Six. Everyone in LA knew her, being it for the night scene or for her music. I really liked that the stardom of Daisy in the book was much more organic in how she opened for The Six before joining the band. In having her like "a wonder" they diminished her perseverance and her hard work. They also made her (and Billy) less of an addicts, or they don't really show that part, and I felt like I was just watching two egos without the addiction, which I feel is one of the topics of the book.
But the worse, for me, was how they change the message of the book in the film... The book talks about perseverance: in love, in staying clean, in music, in your job. I love the way Billy refuses to be with Daisy in the book because he doesn't want to mess up what he has with Camilla, because he loves Camilla and wants to be a good father. He's a character with strong ideals that despises his own childhood and knows how difficult it was for him and Graham, so he does everything possible to not be the same. Similarly for Daisy, her childhood was horrible until she started writing music. Her love for Billy doesn't come of romantic love, but it's the first time that someone sees her for what she really is—a talented, worthy individual—and Billy portrays this kind of admiration because he is also good. Daisy, in the book, doesn't fit into the band. They are not the "found family" I felt they were in the series, and that's alright, because Daisy is not looking for another family, she's looking for a profession that dignifies her. By changing Billy and Daisy's relationship in the show—and I think I spoilt myself the ending, which enraged me further—they completely changed the message and the theme and they made it a show about LOVE. And the book is not about LOVE! The show felt Hollywood for me. The book, the main thing I liked from it, is that it wasn't. It's so human. It's so—"job". It talks about job, music, passion and the ways it makes us horrible and we try to keep it up. It doesn't talk about a man who falls in love with a co front-man but they are bad for each other and they choose not to stay together, oh, two flames burning! Even all of the other characters have the "love" theme revolving around them (Eddie and Camilla, Karen and her jealousy, SIMONE AND BERNIE!). Can't we just... can't we just appreciate friendship and professional connections without implying that all that happens is because of romantic love? Gosh!
So, too long to read: I like the series and the book because they read differently. But I would never, ever for a life, tell someone to just see the series. The book is amazing, intelligent, witty, mature. The series are some romance series. Which is fine if you're looking for romance, but not if you're looking for the topics in the series.
how did you like it??? i'm open to discussion because it has been my hyperfixation these last few days!
