Oh, I am curious about Iron Clad Parenting. Can't tell whether angst or just our characters gritting their teeth and bearing it :')

Hi!! ;D Iron Clad Parenting is part of my Winry fics (well, WinEd fics, I guess) that focuses on her post-canon. And for once it is mostly fluff? Well, at least the parts of it I've written so far.

Eventually it's supposed to deal with the fact that their oldest is nearing her twelfth birthday and neither Ed nor Winry anticipated that this would bother them as much as it does. They thought they worked through their trauma in their early twenties and now they can be loving (workaholic) parents. But something about the impending birthday of their daughter just... triggers some fears and irrationality they'd pushed down.

A snippet:

“You’re suffocating me, mom!” “Well, it’s your fault for being so cute.” After pressing one last kiss on the crown of Melli’s head, Winry allowed her daughter to ‘free’ herself from her embrace. Stepping back it was easy to see that Melli’s hair color hadn’t been the only thing that changed, she had also gained a few inches in height, her travel coveralls ending well above her ankles. “I think you’re taller than Ed was at your age, Melli.” Winry didn’t have to look at Ed to know he was rolling his eyes, Melli’s delighted giggle proof enough that Winry wasn’t the only one who had noticed. “Uncle Al said the same thing when he visited us! He also said that I would be taller than dad one day if I kept this up.” “Uncle Al is a filthy liar who has no idea how tall I actually was at eleven because his freakishly tall perspective was obviously skewered.” Ed was moving deeper into the shop, his voice livelier and lovelier than Winry remembered it to be. No telephone connection would ever do Ed’s voice justice – a spark of pure happiness raced through Winry as she looked at her husband. It was good to see him again. (and it was good to see him joke and smile about something horrible they had all survived) “Uncle Al is probably the only person I would trust when it comes to your father’s adventures, Melli, and his height.” Winry said.

Fic title: I'd Do It Again

oooh you could do a lot for this but what if. its something fun like. idk team mustang team building. like paintball (paintball au my beloved)

and they're all fucking around having a laugh but then it gets Serious and they're up for winning against another team (idk like a team from north city or whatever) and they're still like "ha ha got this in the bag" but hawkeye and havoc are like my brothers in christ pull yourselves toGETHER so we can WIN. and are the only two who are being serious and wanting to win while mustang and breda fuck around in the background

but lol what if someone snuck up behind them both and hawkeye spies it, shoots them to put them out of the game, and breda and mustang are just. Shocked Pikachu. cue the "you almost shot me!" indignation and her deadpanning "i'd do it again." just giving him A Look. bc yes. she would do it again. but she'd also shoot him for real next time bc he's being annoying 👁️👁️

they don't fuck around and annoy everyone after that and they win yay! and mustang and hawkeye smooch at the end of it despite him being a dumbass mwah

So, your Dismissed Roy story ... what (emotional) genre do you think it sits in? More angst, fluff, romance? And which emotional genre is typically your favourite?

Aaah thank you so much for asking about this one !! I am actually going to start posting it soon 🥰

My favourite emotional genre, both to write and read, I think is angst/hurt/comfort, but I need a happy or bittersweet ending. Open endings are good too, but sad endings are often too much for me. Though sometimes only a sad ending can work, that's how it is.

Sooooo about Dismissed Roy, which now has a title, I had to think about it. Then I was told again that I am an angst monster (you know who you are 😒😝) and uh. Yeah. Lots and lots of angst in this fic. The main theme of this fic is reconstruction, and not only Ishval's. Far from it.

BUT. It's also a romance fic - not your usual romance, but it's not like this is a usual couple, right? But yes, there will be romance, and romantic plot points, and fluff, and even smut - which I'll specifically separate each time in a chapter so people who want to avoid it can do so.

Also a fair share of something that is close to politics, and it was very fun to play with that!

And to illustrate, I have shared a pretty fluffy excerpt of this fic just before, now have one that is... A little darker... Just a little. 🙃

He took a deep breath. He was going to turn around, undress, shower, and go to bed. That wasn’t too hard, was it? One foot before the other. Keep your mind set on what you're doing, focus, and you'll be fine. Count your steps, remember the layout of the flat, don't forget where you put the towels, the soap, where your clothes are, where you fold and put away the dirty ones. You've already done that alone enough to know it'll be okay. Don’t think further ahead than the next action. Don't think. Don’t –

He was finished.

He’d known for weeks. This kind of announcement didn’t come out of nowhere. And before he’d known, he was expecting it.

Truth’s toll wasn’t a death sentence, but it was severely close. Everything. Everything he’d fought for. He’d lost everything.

“The team is done. When you signed that paper, you killed it for good.”

Another long, shaky breath. He was standing on the very edge of the deepest, darkest abyss he’d come close to in years. Blind, and ready to lose his balance at the slightest breeze.

Worse than killing children, Roy?

Is it worse?

But we won’t get trialed. We won’t pay. Neither Grumman nor Armstrong will selflessly give enough power back to the parliament for that.

Could be worse. They could decide not to execute a blind man, and you’d be left to witness Riza’s death.

And you'd deserve it. Because she'd be there because of you. It's your fault. Without you, she wouldn't have been through all this. You wouldn't see it, but you would feel –

See the thing is I didn't even considered it until this ask LOL Buuuut I doooooo see the vision. Oh, the tragedy of it all and the way that Buccaneer's last monologue was directed to something they both talked about I CAN SEE IT I CAN SEE IT is just that huuh The fact that I didn't even consider it before is a hit against it. I see the potential romance and tragedy, the issue is that The Vibes aren't in there and would have to really dig to get it.

What would have made you like it?

I guess more than anything would be to get more on Buccaneer? He is cool and all but he has a very specific purpose and he serves it right. I guess I also would like more how Olivier works with her subordinates in a more day-to-day basis. This is something I would apply for everyone in Briggs tbh they are quite the interesting, unique group and I wish I could see more about them.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Yea! Again I do see what is really appealing of it and I can see myself shaking it in my head and getting something out of it!

Most of my searches are about "how to say this?" or "can these words go together at all??" 😅 As my fics usually are "no plot just vibes", so there isn't too much of research involved. I remember spending quite a lot of time checking "how kids behave at [number] age" and the symptoms of pregnancy (this one is still a wip...). I also searched how to walk the stairs with a cane or crunches and was pleasantly surprised to find a few videos. So I'd probably vote for this one so far.

Fic title: Sunburnt

awww what if it was something v cute and fun. like young royai!

they're chilling and vibing in the summer, making the most of the long days and late nights, always out the house doing something when roy isn't studying and after they've had their tea

and where riza lives out east is closer to the desert where the weather is drier, bit warmer, the land's a bit flatter out in the countryside, there are no skyscrapers or tall buildings to hide the sun like there is in central. so that first summer roy ends up with sunburn and whines about it. the second summer he's prepared and riza's glad, because that means they get more time out to play together in the sun. out of that house.

and in those summers, she feels so free and happy with him. they have so much fun together :)

Okay so I'll answer the question backwards. Because the OC who does punch and actually does so in the story (once for now, but probably more) is Diane. Smol feral woman, people should stop underestimating her imo. Especially since she used to do boxing when she was younger.

She punched a background character who had a couple too many bad words about her man (whose reaction was... Not what she'd have expected 🤣). It's actually a one shot I wrote YEARS AGO, so my writing and my English have evolved since, but it's still here if you're interested 😅

On the other hand I think I have 2 or 3 OCs who deserve being punched. Laurence because she needs to stop being so overprotective and dumb with her brother, but like, it's out of love, alright, but STILL. And the cops. Blanchard deserves a punch because... Because he's Blanchard, dumb and crass, and Rousseau deserves a punch because he's a fawning bastard who doesn't take no for an answer and thinks he knows everything better than others (he does! He does but that doesn't give him the right. He's insufferable.)

Oh and Antoine but if the bad guy doesn't deserve a punch then is he really a bad guy? Yeah cause the others are either neutral or good guys. Lol. Doesn't stop them from deserving a good kick.

Honorary mention to Desden who doesn't deserve it and can't really defend himself yet is the one who DOES get punched the most for now. Oops. Sorry dude. Being the most powerful ghost magnet in your family line surely must have good sides? No? Too bad.
