How the Hangman Stole Christmas! - TGM
Summary: It's Secret Santa time for the Dagger Squad! Every year, Hangman manages to figure out everyone's SS and spoil the fun, but the rest of the squad is determined to keep him in the dark this year. Will they succeed, or will Jake Seresin once again be the Dagger Squad's personal Grinch?
Warnings/Content: Plain ol' silliness, alcohol mentioned, starred out swearing, OC included, little to no editing happened here
Word Count: ~1024
A/N: Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! My gift to you is this silly little blurb. Wishing you smiles, joy, and peace from Above in the coming days! <3
How the Hangman Stole Christmas!
“Go away, Bagman.”
“No.”
“**** off.”
“Forget it.”
“Seriously, Jake?”
“Didn’t you ruin Christmas enough last year?”
Jake Seresin worked with a bunch of losers. It wasn’t his fault that he’d managed to figure out everyone’s Secret Santa last year. Or that they’d decided to try it again this year. He was just that smart, and his squad was just that bad at keeping secrets.
Of course, he probably didn’t have to announce everyone’s Secret Santa the day before the exchange, but that was besides the point.
Unfortunately, everyone was being a stick in the mud and complaining that he “ruined Christmas.” Even Fanboy was uncharacteristically tight-lipped on the topic. The other Daggers had evidently told Maverick about the incident as well, as Jake was met with an instant “I don’t know” when he approached the Captain.
Of course, the opposition was just extra incentive for Jake to get creative.
He knew he had Coyote, and he was pretty sure he could confirm a few key Daggers…
—
The bakery was crowded on a Saturday, but Jake needed to snag a few things for Daydream. Both for a Christmas present and for bribing her to tell him who she’d pulled for Secret Santa. He was debating whether she'd be more willing to tattle over a cannoli or some tiramisu when he heard a familiar voice.
“Yeah, two dozen. Thanks.”
Rooster, as Jake lived and breathed, buying a box of pistachio pizzelles that only one person they knew ate.
Hangman smirked to himself.
Busted.
—
“How’s my favorite pilot?”
Daydream looked up as Jake waltzed into her apartment. Her face was anything but impressed as she placed Pillsbury gingerbread cookies on a baking sheet.
“I’m not telling you who I have for Secret Santa.”
“Fine. I’ll keep this early Christmas present for myself.” He opened the box to display the dessert
“Tiramisu!”
He chuckled and held it high over his head. “What’s the magic word?”
She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “Still not telling.”
“Nope. I think it rhymes with peas.”
Another eye roll that made him crack a smile.
“Please.”
“With pleasure, Dreamgirl.”
She eyed him suspiciously as she accepted the gift before marching to the fridge. Jake was just debating what else could possibly get her to talk when a paper on the counter caught his eye. It was a familiar green color, with a singular name scrawled across it.
Gotcha.
—
Jake slid into the booth at the Hard Deck. He almost had all his answers, except one. And he knew exactly who to confront.
“Hey Floyd,” he greeted Bob. “You breaking hearts out here on your own?”
The man blinked behind his glasses. “I’ve been sworn to secrecy, Bagman.”
Jake held up his hands. “I didn’t ask.”
“Well, good.”
Jake nodded and knocked back his drink. He scanned the bar and was satisfied to see no sign of Phoenix. No need to have her literally swoop in and snatch Bob away just yet.
“Hope your shopping went well. Fitch must be hard to shop for.”
Bob chuckled. “I don’t have Payback.”
Jake nodded. “Right. Good thing too. I’m sure Fanboy would be easier to buy for anyway.”
There it was. Bob opened his mouth and shut it. It was fast enough to nearly miss, but Jake had spoken to his fellow aviator enough to know what it meant.
“I don’t have either of them. Keep trying, Jake.”
Jake chuckled and waved a hand. “Nah. I’m done guessing this year.”
I don’t need to.
—
Gifts and beers littered the table that the Daggers huddled around. Penny had replaced the usual jukebox tracks with Christmas music, leaving them with “Blue Christmas” in the background. The squad had elected to dress in civilians, a move Jake was glad for considering the red dress Daydream had broken out for the occasion.
“Alright!” Phoenix yelled to shut the squadron up. “Are we ready for Secret Santa?”
The table cheered, including Jake.
Rooster spoke up and lifted his bottle. “And I want to raise a toas to all of us besting Bagman this year!”
Cheering and clinking followed, until Jake stretched and smirked. This was the best part of the game, to his mind.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Rooster. Who wants me to tell them who their Santa is?”
"Not again." Phoenix's face dropped.
“But we didn’t tell you anything,” Payback said.
Jake shrugged, soaking in the incredulity of his squad. “Didn’t have to.”
“You’re bluffing,” Daydream said beside him.
With a quick swig of his beer, Jake cracked his knuckles and leaned forward.
“I have Coyote. Easy.” He passed over the box he’d wrapped to perfection, which was accepted with a lifted eyebrow.
“Coyote tells me every year, and this time around he got good ol’ Rooster.”
Everyone booed as Coyote sheepishly handed over a box full of vinyls with a bow on the front.
“Oh, come on!” Coyote snatched up his drink. “It’s one name. How could he have figured anyone else out?”
“Was last year not bad enough for you?” Fanboy asked.
“I still don’t believe you know everyone,” Daydream said.
“Fine. Rooster has you. Saw him shopping at an Italian bakery when the most cultural he gets is Del Taco every Tuesday.”
“They make good tacos!”
“Dreamgirl left her paper on the counter when I came over and has Bob. Bob does the mouth thing when he’s lying, making it easy to guess that he has Fanboy.”
Bob sputtered and did the mouth thing.
“Garcia can’t hide cards to save his life, or in this case, a Secret Santa slip. I knew you had Payback from day one.”
“This is why you always lose at poker, man.” Payback shook his head as he accepted a bag overflowing with tissue paper.
“I knew Payback didn’t have me because Phoenix made that special face she keeps just for me when she saw her paper, leaving Fitch to have Phoenix by process of elimination.”
He stuck his toothpick in his mouth and leaned back in his chair as everyone stared at him. Maybe he could be an ace detective in his post-naval career. He was a bit of a genius when it came to deduction, apparently.
Phoenix turned back to the group. “So we leave out Bagman next time?”
“Hey!"

I just have a lot of thoughts about how the dagger squad is so focused on Hangman and Rooster getting their shit together that none of them think ahead and realize the After is so. much. worse.
Because Hangman and Rooster bicker just as much as usual but now it has this added flirty/suggestive tone to it that can only really be described as foreplay and it’s just. nauseating.
Fanboy sends a picture of them practically grinding on each other near the juke box at the Hard Deck to the group chat with the caption “right in front of my salad.”
When the squad gets deployed, Hangman and Rooster share a room. Payback shares a wall with them. He buys noise canceling headphones the minute he is back on shore incase this ever happens again.
Bob gets Rooster for secret Santa and gives him a gift certificate to get his car detailed because he once saw the two of them getting it on in the back of the Bronco.
Phoenix and Coyote’s BFF support team dinners have gone from ‘we can’t take the pining anymore’ to ‘we can’t take the heart eyes anymore’. One time they kill three bottles of wine and spend the dinner doing imitations of Hangman and Rooster calling each other ‘baby’ and ‘sweetheart’ and ‘darlin’.
They all make a show about how annoying it is to be around two people so disgustingly in love, but when Hangman and Rooster get engaged, no one cries harder than the five of them.

The rest is still unwritten
So apparently we are getting a Top Gun 3?!! I am so excited but I do hope the whole Dagger Squad comes back because I love them! I the mean time enjoy this little thing!
Summary: Going back to work after the holidays is always hard but luckily you have Bob by your side.
Main Taglist: @avada-kedavra-bitch-187, @nyx2021, @thestarspangledcaptain, @kmc1989 (open)
Top Gun Taglist: @bisexual-watermelons (open)
Going back to work after the end of the year celebrations was always hard, but somehow it was even harder this year.
You had spent the whole Christmas vacation celebrating with the Daggers, in Maverick and Iceman’s house. The smell of hot chocolate and warm cookies still seemed to follow you as you went back home with Bob. Your phone was filled with memories and although you wanted to just turn back time you couldn’t.
Work had been a bit nicer than you had expected it, wasting some time while talking away with your colleagues about what had happened during your two weeks off. But ultimately you did have to get back to work and try not to spend too much time reminiscing.
“What did you get for Christmas?”, you suddenly hear your colleague, Nancy, ask you. She has a secretive smile, and her eyes seem to be sparkling a lot for a woman who was coming back to work.
“We did a secret Santa, so I received a guide on how to date a Naval aviator from a friend,” you tell her with a smile on your lips, remembering Hangman’s wink when you opened the book, telling you that now you would be an expert girlfriend for Bob.
“Bob got me a necklace that I had been looking at for some time and his parents got us all a trip to Disneyworld in the summer,” you don’t tell her that it wasn’t Bob’s parents that got you tickets for the trip, but that it was Maverick and Iceman. Bob had lost his parents quite young, and he got a lot closer to the older men after the mission, the two of them practically adopting him.
“That is so sweet!”, she says, and you suddenly realize you haven’t asked her about her gift.
“What about you?”, you ask her quickly, ignoring your laptop and the countless emails on it.
“This happened,” she says and before you can ask what she shoves her hand in front of you and you see an engagement ring adorning her finger.
“Wait, your girlfriend proposed?”, you can’t help but say, feeling at loss of words and she quickly nods, an excited smile appearing.
“Congratulation! I am so excited for you!”, you can’t help but say as you leave your desk to hug her in congratulations.
“Thank you, it all happened so quickly,” she says, and you nod quickly before sitting back down and nodding towards the other chair to make her sit next to you.
“Tell me everything,” you say, and an even bigger smile appears as she starts telling the story.
--
“You will never guess what Nancy told me today,” Bob hears you say as you come home, and he can’t help but turn around in curiosity.
“Should I be worried?”, he asks with a teasing smile as you approach him, you look tired but there is a soft smile on your lips that makes him feel at ease.
“Nothing bad, I promise,” you say before kissing him softly on the lips, he quickly wraps his arm around your waist to bring you closer, enjoying the feeling of you in his arms. It had been weird not to have you by his side today, after spending all of your time together these last two weeks.
“So, what happened?”, he asks after a couple of minutes have passed and you seem to realize you haven’t told him yet, an excited smile appearing on your lips.
“Nancy’s girlfriend proposed!”, you tell him, and Bob can’t help but feel excited at the thought.
“No way?! That is incredible,” he says, and you nod in agreement.
“And we are invited to the wedding!”, he can’t help but smile as you start to list off the details that you already got out of Nancy about the weeding.
You had always been a beautiful woman; Bob had fallen for you the moment he saw you. There wasn’t only just beauty, as you managed to sweep him off his feet with your debates and fun facts that you somehow remembered when you couldn’t even remember where you had parked the car. He had been surprised that you had gone for him, but then again, the Daggers had always said he needed to work on his self-esteem, particularly a drunk Jake who had told him he would’ve gone for him if he hadn’t been with Rooster.
There was a ring in his locker, waiting for the right moment to be brought out but he didn’t know when the right time was. He knew that Christmas wasn’t the right time as it was more a family time.
He had talked about it with Phoenix, and she had quickly helped him figure out the perfect time to do it, not on Valentine’s Day as it would be too cliché and your birthday was also out of the question as he wanted it to be your day. So, the two decided on the Disneyworld trip, he knew that you loved to go there, and he could easily ask the Daggers help with the planning of it.
The only thing he needed to do now was work out the details and try not to spill the question before that.
“But anyways, how was your day at work?”, she asks bringing him back to reality.
“Nothing really happened, Phoenix and I went in the air to try a new maneuver, but we still need to work on it. And you?”, he listens as you explain what your coworkers had told you about their holydays and how your boss was already driving you mad.
“I mean he is a complete idiot,” Bob says, and you nod in agreement, your mouth currently stuffed with a spoonful of sauce.
“I know right? By the way this is delicious,” Bob can’t help but blush under the praise, still not used to them after all this time.
He is ready to continue your conversation before a song starts to play that he knows all too well, your excited yell at the song makes him laugh and roll his eyes fondly.
“Common Bobby, we need to dance to this.”, he barely has time to cut the stove off before you drag him by the hand in the middle of the living room and put the music louder.
The chorus of Unwritten starts and Bob can’t help but yell the lyrics with you, feeling lighter than he has all day. He takes your hand and starts twirling the both of you around the room, making the both of you laugh as you sing the lyrics to the song.
The song had been in a movie that you had watched with the Dagger squad, it was called ‘Anyone but you’ and every time someone tried to mention that the Ben guy looked a lot like Hangman the man would roll his eyes and say that he was ‘way’ more handsome than him.
Ever since then the whole squad had been singing the song on repeat, even Iceman had been dancing to it, with Maverick who had been looking at him with heart eyes.
Now, even with only the two of you dancing in the living room he couldn’t help but feel incredibly happy and lucky. And as you twirl into his arms, slightly breathless he can’t help himself but bring you into a loving kiss.
“Love you Bobby,”, he hears you whisper, and he can’t stop smiling.
“Love you too beautiful,” he whispers back, holding you as close as possible as the two of you still dance softly on the carpet.
He knew that the both of you would have to eventually go back to the kitchen and get back to your life but in that moment, he couldn’t help but just enjoy the moment with you.

series summary: “there’s no place like home for the holidays,” is a saying you loathe with a passion. you didn’t hate the holidays. you just wished you had a place to call home when the winter days are lonely and the nights are long and cold. little did you know that home was a lot closer than you think, and came in the package of a charming green eyed pilot with a surprising amount of love for the holiday season.

“this heart that glows like an ember, longs to be loved just by you…” warm december, julie london
You are not a Scrooge. Not in the slightest. In fact you loved the holidays—being bundled up in the coziest of fleece sweaters, Christmas music, and hot chocolate were amongst your favorite winter activities. However, that’s not to say the holidays were your favorite time of the year.
The air of The Hard Deck warms your cold cheeks as you enter the bar. A content sigh escapes you as you send Penny Benjamin a small grin and a wave. Bouts of familiar laughter steal your attention away to the two pool tables towards the back of the bar, already surrounded by your favorite people.
Fanboy is the one who catches a glimpse of you first as you make your way through the sea of people. He perks up, shoving his pool cue into Bob’s vacant hands.
“It’s about time you showed up, Thumper!” Fanboy chortles, throwing his arm around your shoulders. “We were getting a bit worried that you bailed on us.”
You laugh and give his hand a soft squeeze as the two of you make your way back to the squad. “On Secret Santa day? I could never!” You shake the gift you're holding as emphasis. “Besides, if anyone was going to bail, it’d definitely be Mav.”
Fanboy nods in agreement before pulling you towards the pool tables. A chorus of dramatic ‘hellos’ and cheers erupt from the aviators as you approach. Of course they started causing a scene. It was ever the Dagger way.
On birthdays, anniversaries, hell even for an everyday appearance, it was a squad tradition to make the small things a huge deal.
You will never forget when Rooster got the whole bar to sing Can You Feel The Love Tonight the first time Fanboy drove a girl home.
Despite being regulars, you can’t help the heat that sets your cheeks aflame. Everyone is looking at your rowdy little group and worst of all, you were the center of attention. You hated it and they all knew it.
They chant your callsign and fist pump while you turn your head, and tuck your chin into the crook of your neck in a lousy attempt to hide your embarrassment. The weight on your shoulders releases as Fanboy makes his way back to the group with the same mischievous grin the rest of them have.
You catch Hangman’s eye and he sends you a sly grin that has your heart running a hundred beats a minute in your ribcage. Your friendship with Jake Seresin was one of the few that you held close to your heart. You love each member of the squad equally, however you had to admit the Jake shaped hole in your heart was a tad larger than all the rest. But you wouldn’t tell any of them that. Especially not him.
He reaches you with an outstretched hand. His brows are raised as if to say, “Well?” So you begrudgingly take his hand in yours, knowing he won’t let up until you do.
Jake lifts your intertwined hands and the way he instantly lights up flies right over your head, but doesn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the aviators.
“There you are, darling. Give us a twirl,” he drawls with a wink.
You let out a sigh of feign annoyance, before doing a small spin. The group lets out a second series of chortles and obnoxious noises. Another round of heat settles on your ears and the apple of your cheeks. Hangman shakes his head with his hand still in yours as he drapes his arm around your shoulder. They finally settle down when you drop your wrapped gift onto the designated wooden table and unravel yourself from Jake’s hold to greet everyone else individually.
The fall of his smile and shoulders catch Coyote’s eye and he gives Jake a subtle pat on the back. “Could you be any more obvious?” Coyote teases his friend.
Jake frowns, crossing his arms over his shoulders and watches as you move in to hug Payback. “Can’t you see I’m trying?” He really was. He didn’t know how much longer he could take the anticipation of being in your presence, of pining for you day after day. You were right at arm's length but so out of reach. He was sure it was going to kill him someday.
Coyote scoffs taking a swig of his drink. “Well try harder because it clearly isn’t working,” he retorts.
He smacks his friend on the arm and with a jerk of his head the two bring themselves back to the festivities.
The next two hours are spent in tipsy splendor. Alcohol is drunk, gifts are exchanged, and jokes are told as the night continues to wind down. Accepting a bottle of water from Jake, you feel yourself sobering up as the normally crowded Hard Deck starts to empty. Penny is generous enough to let you guys stay even after she’s all ready to close up. Partially because Maverick decides to spend the rest of the night cuddled up with her in one of the corner booths, leaving the rest of you to your own devices.
A soft sigh escapes your lips and your eyelids are heavy from the events of the night. You’re engrossed in your own conversation with Coyote as you rest your weight on Hangman’s chest, leaning back on the heels of your feet so your back is against him. There’s a light sheen of sweat on the back of your neck and you're too dazed to be able to tell if it’s from being so close to Jake or the alcohol that’s filtering through your system. One of his hands is respectfully on your hip while the other lays on the counter the two of you are standing beside.
Jake’s chest rumbles against your back as he contributes his own comments to you and Coyote’s ongoing debate on whether or not Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie. He’s oh so warm against you and you have to fight off the urge to drift off right then and there. The name of one of your favorite movies catches your attention and you’re drawn back to the conversation at hand.
“If that makes Die Hard a Christmas movie, then that means Mean Girls is too. And you know it’s not.”
You turn to look up at Jake with an astounded look on your face. “Excuse me, Hangman, Mean Girls is a Christmas movie! And a Halloween one. That’s what makes it so great.”
He looks at you with an arched brow. “So you’re siding with John McClane then?”
You nod, biting your lower lip at your growing grin.
“Unbelievable,” he grumbles, making you fall back into him with a giggle. Jake’s grip tightens at your hip. It sets the skin there on fire despite the fabric that blocks his touch from directly caressing your skin. An eruption of butterflies roam through your stomach. All because of him.
The feeling was all too familiar when it came to the green eyed aviator. He had caught your eye on your first day at Top Gun and hasn’t left your line of sight ever since. After the two of you graduated, you still found yourself thinking of him when you were deployed overseas. It was just your luck that your paths would cross once again, right where everything started. Only this time luck was on your side, and the permanence of the Dagger Squad in Miramar gave you the opportunity to act on the heavy tug in your chest every time he was around.
Prior to engaging in an actual friendship with Seresin, you have heard plenty of stories about the acclaimed pilot who “always left his wingman hanging.” Naturally, earning him his beloved callsign. His arrogance and slightly dickish attitude precedes him, for he acted as such when you first met him in the academy. Yet, you still found yourself drawn to him. To your surprise, he was drawn to you too.
Gone was the boastful Top Gun pilot and in return you got to know him as both Hangman and Jake Seresin. It was a gift not many got to possess. One you wouldn’t dare take for granted. Which is why upon discovering your true feelings towards your friend, you hid it away. Buried it deep into the chambers of your heart. Never wanting it to be uncovered.
You seem to have spent far too long with your head in the clouds because Jake is nudging you gently. Rooster is staring at you with an inquisitive raise of his brow and your palms sweat at the sudden awkwardness of the group’s silence. “Sorry, Roos, what did you say?” It wasn’t uncommon for you to get lost in your head. Your friends are used to it by now. In fact on more occasions than one you found yourself drifting away and surrounded in a sea of your thoughts. When this starts happening, Jake is always the one to reel you back in.
“I asked if you had any plans for the holidays,” he repeated with a nonchalant wave of his hand. Don’t worry about it, his actions said.
Despite knowing he was being sincere, it didn’t change the fact that you still felt guilty about pulling away again. “Nothing special, just hanging around here. I guess.” No plans, as usual, is what you had wanted to say. Your eyes dart to the window, staring at the dimly lit patio and the moon’s reflection on the beach waves.
The tension that falls upon the group is palpable. The once easy going atmosphere dropped onto your shoulders, making you feel heavy inside.
Phoenix sends you a look, one you could only describe as pity. Very few of the squad members knew about the complicated relationship you had with your family. Of them all, just Phoenix and Maverick had a clue to how messy things were. It was the look on Phoenix’s face that stopped you from telling anyone else about your predicament. You hated being on the receiving end of that look. You hated feeling weak.
“You’re not going to go home and visit your family?” There it is. The f-word. Poor, innocent Bob didn’t know any better but to ask.
The scoff that leaves you is harsher than you intended it to be as you step away from Hangman’s gravity. A chill settles over you from the loss of his warmth and you wrap your arms around yourself to shield you from outwardly cringing. “Oh, there’s no one waiting for me back home.” Your shoulders deflate and you keep your gaze towards the window, not wanting to see the same saddened looks on your colleagues faces. The tears that threaten to fall gather in the corner of your eyes and you brush them off with the back of your hand.
Jake’s heart aches at your confession. How could someone as wonderful as you have no one to come home to? Sure, you’ve never talked openly about your family or a possible significant other, but he had just assumed that you had plenty of people back home who cared. He didn’t think you were all alone. A pang of guilt courses through him at the thought of his constant raving about his mother and father. His pride and joy for his hometown community was one he was never ashamed of expressing until now. Had he known it was such a sensitive topic, he would have never talked about it with you to save you from loneliness and heartbreak.
“No one should spend the holidays alone,” Payback frowns.
Fanboy nods in agreement with his front seater. “You really have nowhere to go?”
You shrug. “Really, it’s okay, guys. It’s nothing I’m not used to.”
Those words are like a stab at Jake’s chest. A fleeting thought crosses his mind. It’s irrational and quite selfish but he always seemed to act that way around you. You could come home with me.
He doesn’t even realize the offer had fallen from his lips until you look back at him in shock.
“What?” The word falls breathlessly from your lips.
Jake blinks before meeting Coyote’s amused gaze. He focuses back on you and with much more confidence repeats, “Come home with me.”
_____
How he managed to convince you to come home with him for Christmas, Jake wasn’t sure. It was a miracle that you even said yes in the first place.
“Are you sure this is okay?” You had asked him before boarding.
“Of course, why wouldn’t it be?” He sends you a charming smile.
You look down at your worn out tennis shoes. The conflict stirring within you is evident and Jake wishes he could take it away. He could imagine why you were having second thoughts. You guys were friends but this…this felt a little too intimate for your relationship. If he could even call it that.
“Hey.” He places a hand on your shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “If you’re worried about not being welcome, don’t. My family they’re…”
“A little more than friendly,” Coyote having overheard your conversation butts in. “Trust me. I slept over practically every night in high school and they didn’t even bat an eye. ”
You look at Jake who is already confirming his statement with a soft smile. “Seriously, I wouldn’t have asked you if it wasn’t okay. You trust me, right?”
“Right,” you swallow.
“Then trust me when I say it’s all good.”
He was now sandwiched between you and Coyote on a flight back to their hometown. You were seated at the window and Javy had the aisle.
Jake adjusted the belt across his lap as he patiently waited for the boarding process to be complete. He turned towards his friend and wasn’t surprised to see Coyote already knocked out. He laughs to himself before turning to you.
You’re staring out the window and your leg is bouncing rapidly up and down, emitting soft thumps with each movement.
He places his hand on your knee and you whip your head towards him. He cringes with an apologetic look.
Once it settles in that the person who touched you was just Jake, the tightness in your muscles dissipates.
“You’re doing it again,” he tells you gently. “Everything okay?”
You sigh. “No. I mean, yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. It’s just…” You shake your head. “Never mind. You’ll think it’s stupid.”
Jake shakes his head and a frown tugs at his lips. “I won’t think it’s stupid, Thumps. Promise.” He holds his free hand up as if he were taking an oath.
“I’m nervous,” you breathe. “I don’t know what it is, but being a passenger and not having control of the plane, it scares me. And I hate it because I’m a pilot, you know? I shouldn’t be afraid of flying. Like I said. Stupid.”
“Thumper.”
You avoid his gaze.
“Y/N,” he tries again. This time, the use of your real name gets you to look at him. “It’s not stupid. In this environment, you’re used to being in control. So used to it that your brain goes into overdrive when you’re not and that’s okay. Besides, flying commercial doesn’t really fulfill our need for speed, does it?”
That pulls a dry laugh from your lips. “No, it doesn’t.” A soft chime over the intercom sends your heart racing again and you shut your eyes as the plane starts to move. The light pressure on your knee from Jake’s hand has you releasing a shaky breath.
“It’ll be okay. Try and sleep, Thumper,” he tells you softly. “I’m here, just sleep.”
“Lieutenant Jake Seresin.” His eyes are bright as they settle on you. He knew you knew his name. He definitely knew yours. The two of you graduated from the same Top Gun class. He remembers how impressed he was that you graduated third right behind him and Coyote. He didn’t have the guts to speak to you then. Jake didn’t have the bravado he has now. “Hangman.”
“I know.” You hold your hand out to him. “Lieutenant-”
“I know who you are, Thumper.” He winks, clasping his hand in yours.
You eyed him suspiciously, still wary of why he decided to approach you and Phoenix as if he was unaware of the obvious tension amongst the group.
“Hey Coyote,” Phoenix nods to the man beside Jake.
Coyote nods back. “Hey.”
You’re aware of the conversation carrying on around you but you are too taken by the blond haired pilot whose stare hasn’t left yours since you walked in. He was trouble. You didn’t need to hear any more stories about him to know that. But even as the alarm bells went off in your head, screaming at you to keep your distance and stay away, you couldn’t. He continued to capture your attention and eventually got a hold of your heart, body, and soul.
You wake with a tap to your shoulder. Your gaze meets his and he’s looking down at you with an apologetic smile.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you there. I just wanted to let you know that we’re here.”
Your brows furrow, only to realize that you had somehow slept the entire three hour flight from California to Texas. You’ve never been able to sleep that straight, let alone sleep straight on a plane. Though you wouldn’t deny that it felt good. That you felt good.
Ever the gentleman, Jake takes your carry on bag from the overhead bin. You feel your muscles stretch and your joints crack with every step you take until you’re off the plane and breathing the stuffy air of the Dallas Airport.
“Ah, home sweet home,” Coyote over dramatically exclaims, stretching his back with his hands on his hips.
You giggle and Jake sends you a wink.
“Home sweet home, it is, Javy.” He takes a deep breath and despite being inside, Jake feels deep in his bones the familiarity of his home.
Jake grabs your hand and Javy hooks his arm with yours so you don’t lose each other in the holiday crowd. Jake tucks your joined hands into the pocket of his coat making a small smile cross your face. You follow the two men with an amused grin. The two babble like school children, naming off all the places and things you just have to see. You have never seen the two of them this enthusiastic about something that wasn’t flying or football. A warmth spreads through you at the sight of them so at ease, so at home. For a moment, you find yourself wishing you had a place this familiar. To feel this peaceful in your own hometown. However, it’s a fleeting thought. Just as quickly as it came, it vanishes as soon as you step out of the airport into the dry Texas air.
“You call him?” Coyote asks from your left.
Jake only grumbles a response, clearly not too fond of this “him” Coyote has brought up.
You stare at Jake for clarification to which he sighs out, “He’s talking about my brother, Luke. He’s going to pick us up and take us home.”
“Oh,” is all you say. Take us home. Us. The thought has your stomach doing backflips as you wait out in the cold. You are chastising yourself immediately. Jake meant “us” as in him and Javy. Not “us” as in you and him. The two of you are friends. There is no us. It was foolish of you to entertain the thought for even a moment more.
Javy releases your arm as a black SUV pulls up to the white curb. You feel Jake tense and see his jaw clench as the car comes to a stop.
A man in jeans, boots, and a brown flannel top steps out of the SUV with a megawatt grin. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t find him attractive but as you observed him closer, you understood why. He resembled the man beside you quite a bit. The dimple on his left cheek as he grinned and his dirt blond head of hair was an exact replica of Jake’s. The one thing that set them apart were their eyes. His were a dark shade of brown that rivaled those of his brother’s. Luke Seresin was broad and burly while his brother was muscular and lean. He had a couple more inches to him compared to Jake. He puffed his chest out a bit more as Luke approached him.
“Well, if it isn’t my little brother.” His voice, you note, is different too. Slightly deeper and not as kind. The exchange feels rehearsed and unnatural. From the way he grabs his brother in his arms and pats his back in a way that looks a little too rough to be playful.
Jake doesn’t say a word and just grunts as he’s pulled into his brother. One arm wraps around Luke’s shoulders while the other stays at his side with his hand still in yours. He rolls his lips inwards and nods in greeting. Jake turns to you with a softer look in his eyes. “Stay here. I’m going to go help Javy with the bags.” He reluctantly unravels his hand from your hold before glaring at his brother once more.
You watch him head to the trunk and shove your hands into your own pockets. You rock back and forth on the balls of your feet, feeling awkward in his brother’s intense stare.
“You must be the infamous Thumper.” Luke remarked.
“Yeah, I guess I am,” you swallow, slightly confused by his comment. You didn’t like how he made you feel. He didn’t provide you the same comfort that Jake did. You really need to stop comparing the two, you remind yourself. “You must be Luke.”
“Yeah, I guess I am,” he echoes.
“Hey, Luke, you mind helping us out back here?” Jake shouts from the back of the car.
Luke gives you one last look over before responding. “Yeah, I’m coming.”
The wink he sends you shoots a chill down your spine and you find yourself tapping your foot and wrapping your arms around yourself for security. The feeling finally dissipates when Jake’s familiar scent of his laundry detergent and the cheap cologne he buys from Target floods your senses.
He nudges his shoulder with yours. “You ready?” Jake opens the car door.
You shake yourself from your stupor and feel yourself relax with Jake’s presence. “Ready as I can be,” you reply absently.
He helps you into the back and Coyote sends you a comforting smile as you buckle your seatbelt. Jake climbs into the front seat with his brother and he takes off the second Jake’s door is closed.
You catch Jake’s eye in the side view mirror as you cruise down the highway. His lips tug upward and you reciprocate before staring out at the scenery once more.
Safe. The word passes through you, surrounding you in a bubble of warmth. The nerves you were previously feeling towards the whole affair faded away, even if only for a moment. This entire time you wondered why you said yes to Jake’s proposal for coming home with him for the holidays. You grappled with the anxiety that didn’t seem to leave you despite Jake’s constant reassurance. Your worry thoughts tend to dwell on all the reasons that would make his family possibly hate you. Yet somehow, all it took was this moment to have all those thoughts seemingly disappear. This moment that made you understand everything. Jake Seresin made you feel safe. Jake Seresin felt like home.

The crew does Secret Santa. Jake just so happens to get Rooster as his gift partner.
The Christmas Bob outdid himself by AnadoraBlack {M}
Bob organizes a Secret Santa among the squad. Jake's nervous, because he's never had to gift anyone anything before. He's even more scared when faced with the gifts he receives. He shouldn't be either of those things...
cowboy, take me away by ginnydear {T}
jake has a cowboy hat he doesn't just let anyone wear. bradley takes that as a challenge.
We've had our share of tears, but now it's Christmas by JuliaBaggins {T}
Maverick hasn't really celebrated Christmas in years, and he isn't too much of a fan of it. It's a family holiday after all, one that always reminds him of the people he's lost, and one that he doesn't have anyone to spend it with. But maybe this year, he'll get some surprises at Christmas, and eventually realize just how very loved he is...
Must Have Been the Mistletoe by ReformedTsundere {G}
Bradley hadn't thought trying to arrange a fourteen-person Christmas party would be so hard. He supposes he should have known better, given the summer barbeque debacle a few months prior and the Thanksgiving disaster that had just happened at Ice and Mav's. Still, he'd been under some impression that the Christmas spirit would make the majority of his friends (his family, really) more manageable. By the fourth phone call in as many as two hours, Bradley is contemplating faking his death and having the entire thing called off.
Under the Christmas Lights by emseebeans {T}
On the night before Christmas, Bradley and Jake sit in front of the Christmas tree and make an important decision.
Wintersong by xo_em {T}
It had been noisy, this trip, in the best way. All of them gathered together up in the mountains for the holiday, forgoing their normal family obligations in order to nurture this small and fragile family that they’d chosen for themselves.
home for the holidays by alecjbi {E}
“Aren’t you going home?” “I usually just stay with Javy and his brother and their family,” Jake explained. There was some sort of a sad look in his eye, something far away, like a fresh wound that had just started to scab over. “Mav and Ice can take care of me,” he tried. Jake just stared at him, unimpressed. “You and Mav would kill each other within a week.” or-- jake takes care of bradley.
Santa, Baby by Renai_chan {E}
Jake puts on another costume for Bradley, and Bradley isn't quite sure about this one. On the one hand, Jake is sexy in all his forms. On the other hand, he's dressed as Santa.
Snowfall in San Diego by evansrogerskitten {E}
As much as Bradley dreaded facing Jake, he couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas gift.
snow on the beach (weird but fucking beautiful) by k0ralik {G}
Jake had always felt like a partridge in a pear tree – out of place. He just never felt like he really belonged. And then there came a man with the most beautiful brown eyes Jake has ever seen. He was tall and unruly, broad and composed, golden and vibrant. He was a dream. And Jake fell so quickly, so rapidly, like a plane that’d been shot down with no prior dogfight. Now, Jake belongs with him. And they are going to his family home for Christmas. Which is... terrifying, to say the least.
All Around the World is Sleeping by Renai_chan {E}
It's Christmas morning, and Bradley's feeling a bit frisky, despite Jake's firm insistence that it's five am, Bradley. Like, why?
I’ve got my love to keep me warm by lightwoodsisabelle {G}
It was one of the first things that Bradley learned about Jake after they leaned into the flirtation that had been brewing for years and started to date. Jake was, without fail, always cold. or: obligatory "jake is always cold" holiday fic
I’ll take my time (I’m not the forward thinker) by davidbyrne {T}
Bradley decides to pick first. He figures this way, he has a better chance of picking someone he actually knows, like Nat or Payback. He shoves his hand into the hat, mixing the slips of paper around and then clinging to one at random. For some reason, his heartbeat feels erratic as he unfolds it, as if he’s scared of the outcome. When he reads the call sign on the paper, he realizes his heart may be on to something. Hangman, it reads, in Rooster’s own blocky script. Or Bradley gets Jake for secret Santa. Things spiral from there.
I’ll Be Yours for Christmas (if only in my dreams) by greenstuff {E}
After the mission, Bradley tells Jake that his mom thinks they’re dating and, against his better judgement, Jake agrees to go along with it for Christmas. Shameless fake dating holiday fluff set in a world where Carole didn’t die but everything else in canon happened.
5 more nights of sleeping on my own (4 more days until you’re coming home) by Conny_the_destroyer {T}
The first Christmas spent together doesn't go as planned for Bradley and Jake.
Let it snow by AnadoraBlack {T}
Bradley should really have listened to that weather forecast. Alas, he's an idiot, so he didn't, and now, he's trapped in his appartment on Christmas Eve. Thankfully, so is his neighbour...
we met in the winter (and we fell in love) by haridwar {T}
Merry Flocking Christmas by LadyLanera {T}
Christmas Miracles come in many forms. Sometimes that comes in the form of your daughter waking on Christmas Day from being unconscious for two months. In other forms, it's your wingman of almost 35 years rising from the dead. What do you do if you're Maverick Mitchell and this happens? Well, you obviously take everyone on a real Christmas vacation of course. In other words, Ice LIVES again and chaos ensues.
A Hallmark Hangster Christmas by infinitejaust {T}
Bradley Bradshaw hates Christmas and he hates small towns. He especially hates that this year, he’s going to have to spend Christmas in a small town. A cutesy one, with all sorts of annoyingly festive Christmas traditions. Jake Seresin loves Christmas. He has a Christmas sweater for every day of December. He loves life in a small town. He's not about to befriend a big city Scrooge. The townspeople of Alta Pistola, Colorado, have plans for both of them.
I'll Be Home for Christmas (And I'll be Making it Your Problem) by ReformedTsundere {T}
Javy is scrolling past their local college's "Personals" page, seeing if they can find students they know enough to make harmless jokes at, when an apparent ad stops them both. Rent-A-Boyfriend Need someone to take home for the holidays? Not looking forward to being sat around the table and made to play nice? I'm a 26-year-old Navy brat with more piercings, tattoos, and trauma than sense. Polisci and Engineering double major who is running on caffeine (but can make it seem like I've got a drug problem). I ride a motorcycle for fun, have what can only be described as a "pornstache," and am unapologetically queer. I can and will, without trying, make any conservative parent wish they'd never picked up the phone to make you come home and have a blast doing it.
A Boyfriend for Christmas by dandeliondick {E}
Ice left Bradley a cabin in need of some TLC, but Rooster can fix a car but not a kitchen cabinet. Jake "Hangman" Seresin has finally given up the asshole act and his fight against how lovable Bradley is. So Jake flies out to help a sentimental bird fix up a cabin in a small town in Colorado near Christmas....nothing will happen...right?
It’s a Marshmallow World in the Winter by Earthangel_44 {E}
Jake gets snowed in with Bradley for a week and gets more then he bargains for.
Dreamhouse by emseebeans {T}
On the night before Christmas, there's one only gift left to put together before Bradley and Jake are ready for the big day.
help to make the season bright by achillesheel {G}
Jake spends his first Christmas celebration with Dagger Crew — and, technically, his first Christmas with Bradley. In between the usual Dagger Crew dynamics and newfound Christmas traditions, Jake and Bradley are left to figure out where they stand with each other (even if they can’t discuss their feelings to save their lives).
Kiss Me When We Hit The Hard Deck by Writerofthelorde {T}
Hangman and Coyote put mistletoe in the doorway of the Hard Deck. Jake is trying to get kissed by Bradley, but he hadn't anticipated a certain Captain and a certain Admiral to find themselves underneath it too... Ice decides this is the perfect moment to tell the others about their relationship and happily kisses him right in that doorway.
sweet dreams of holly and ribbon (mistakes are forgiven) by cryinginthebronco {E}
It’s nearly 7:30 p.m. when Bradley pulls up in front of Javy’s house. He’s already late to the Christmas party that started over an hour ago, so he doesn’t waste any time before turning off the engine. He’s out of the vehicle and at the front door before the car door even slams shut. After ringing the doorbell, he stuffs his hands in the pockets of his jeans, waiting for someone to let him in. or Jake wears a dress, and Bradley loses his mind or sexy santa dress fic
He's My Sugar Cookie Kind of Sweetness by Renai_chan {T}
Jake and Elise bake cookies and turn their kitchen into a huge mess. Luckily, Bradley is there to help them clean up after.
It Takes Three (Steps) by Writerofthelorde {G}
Maverick wants an excuse to kiss his Iceman at the navy base and asks Hangman for help hanging mistletoe around the base. And not just a branch or two but more like twenty. or forty. He wants to kiss /and/ annoy the love of his life. Because of course he does. Jake asks Bradley to help them and he tries to get a chance to kiss him. It's quite disastrous.
I Gave You My Heart by Renai_chan {G}
Jake gives Bradley a present.
Gonna Make Your Home My Bed and Heart by ReformedTsundere {E}
Jake's stomach hurts, his eyes are watering, and there's an ache in his jaw as he holds a hand over his mouth, trying his hardest to stifle the donkey-like laughter spilling out of him. He'd had to push himself away from the table when doubling over was impossible to stop, and can feel, even as echoing laughter surrounds him, Bradley's hard stare. When Jake manages to open his eyes, looking up as he wipes the tears from them, the brunet is glaring.
The Twelve Days of Leave by orphan_account
The Twelve Days of Leave {T}
When Bradley made plans to meet his godfather for the holidays, the last thing he expected was to get marooned in an airport en route... When Jake had to rush home for a family emergency, the last thing he expected was to run into a fellow fighter pilot on the way... Now that the two former-rivals had joined up to spend Christmas in Jake's home town, would unexpected sparks fly? Or would they crash and burn? :::OR::: A fun, fluffy holiday romp with a pinch of angst, a dash of cheer, and a sprig of holly, all wrapped in a big red bow.
The Bonus Day of Leave {E}
Bonus smut shot for my holiday story, The Twelve Days of Leave. Highly recommend reading that first. :::OR::: "But the man’s completely unexpected appearance wasn’t what stopped Rooster dead in his tracks. No, it was the fact that Jake was standing there in a Santa hat, red velvet thong, and… nothing else. “Merry Christmas, baby,” the blond smiled lasciviously. Eyes trailing down that perfectly sculpted torso of their own volition, Bradley found himself lost for words. Jake’s smile widened. “What, the Rooster not gonna crow for me?” His gaze never leaving the other man’s semi-nakedness, Bradley mindlessly quipped back, “Baby, I gotta feeling I’m about to crow for you all night long.”"
New Beginnings by Nickies_Nonsense {G}
Bradley swallowed hard, “do you think I can do this?” he whispered. Slider’s hand landed on his shoulder, giving him a reassuring squeeze. “Never doubted you for a second kiddo,” he said. —— Or, being a new Dad is HARD. Good thing Bradley’s husband Jake is there along with the dozen other aviators they call grandparents. Fluff, cuddling, and dubious child-raising follow.
that little farm where every wish comes true by hangmanbradshaw {E}
Jake's only wish that holiday season was simple- to keep his family christmas tree farm. He never expected that wish would be granted via a man with deep pockets, an amused smile, and commitment issues a mile wide. He never expected to like him. He definitely never expected to love him. Hell, he never expected Bradley Bradshaw. Or Hallmark Christmas Movie but make it sugar (daddy) and spice and everything nice.
The Christmas Wedding Date by imafriendlydalek {E}
Bradley knows it’s a terrible idea, even as he’s agreeing to it. Sure, things between him and Jake are better now since the mission, but the bar for that was so low it was practically on the ground. Just because things are “better,” just because Hangman saved his life, just because they had a long talk about what happened in the past—a talk that maybe ended with some rather hurried but incredibly satisfying blowjobs in a bunk on an aircraft carrier and them then texting each other all of twice before today—doesn’t mean that this is a good idea. Spending a whole long weekend together, over Christmas no less? At Jake’s sister’s wedding? Pretending to be his boyfriend? A terrible idea. Still, Bradley has been known for making ill-advised decisions when it comes to one Jacob Seresin, and today is no different. “Yeah, alright,” he hears himself say. Can even hear the smile on his face. “Guess I should iron my suit, huh?” It earns him a laugh from Jake, gravelly and delighted. “Oh no, darlin’. This is an event for dress blues.”
lightning strikes every time he moves by hangmanbradshaw {E}
Jake does not have a crush on Bradley fucking Bradshaw (he totally doesn't, shut up Javy), he doesn't want to be dragged along on this trip, and he definitely doesn't want to room with said pain in his ass/newfound almost friend. He buried all that shit long ago, but when Bradley asks if he'll teach him about sleeping with guys, he can't resist the challenge. Turns out no one had ever stuck, but Bradley Bradshaw is unshakeable. Or, About to be formed into a permanent squadron, the daggers take a group trip to a cabin in the mountains to enjoy some skiing and festive decorations. An unexpected blizzard unearths a crush that ends up being so much more, and Jake never thought he'd be writing both a complaint and thank you letter to Triple A.
Clueless Christmas by sycamoretree {M}
Christmas draws near after the Dagger mission. While everyone heads home, Bradley chooses to work at Top Gun instead of celebrating Christmas. Jake finds out and decides to stay and in secret bring Christmas spirit into his life.
miles to go before I sleep by lemqnie {E}
Five cold winters between Jake and Bradley and one warm Christmas. or Jake and Bradley's relationship through the years.
Know Better by chase_acow {E}
“You can come, but I am not fucking you in my mom’s home,” Jake said, leaning into his stern voice. He’d learned enough about how to wrangle the older man in the last couple of months to know he had to start out solid and then stick to his guns. “And we don’t have time to fool around now. So repack, and you’d better pick at least one shirt that isn’t going to blind everyone with the print.” Bradley smirked, and Jake should have known better.
santa, can't you hear me? by hangmanbradshaw {E}
Jake Seresin didn't want to live the lyrics of Last Christmas, but in the aftermath of a breakup, he finds himself meeting someone different, someone maybe even special, in the form of a reporter sent to do a profile on him. Bradley Bradshaw wasn't what he expected, but maybe that's a good thing. The rest, well, he can honestly say he never saw it coming.
The Present by DecadentWorld {T}
Not too long after the mission, a Secret Santa game among the Daggers is on. Such a jovial event, it should be. All of it. The process of choosing, the giving, the reaction. Jake begs to differ.
my love life waits for me by davidbyrne {T}
Jake’s been a Chemistry teacher at Winthrop Preparatory Academy for more than three years and has, so far, avoided holding over, the dreaded duty of having to stay over the holiday break to watch the kids who aren’t going home. It’s a two-teacher job, and in Jake’s experience, it’s always been Bradshaw and some other poor sap. Jake had been promised it wouldn’t be his year. He has plane tickets, family plans, and his mother’s pecan pie sitting on a kitchen counter in wonderful, warm Houston. And now he’s gonna have to stay trapped in this snowy hellscape with a bunch of obnoxious kids and Bradley fucking Bradshaw. or jake and bradley are two teachers at a boarding school, forced to spend the holiday season together
Christmas is what you bake it by nimuetheseawitch {T}
“Hey honeybuns, whatchya making?” Jake planted a kiss on his shoulder before hooking his chin over it to take a look at the gingerbread. Bradley only stiffened in surprise for a moment before practically melting into Jake’s arms. Jake could feel his grin where their faces touched. “Well, sweet cheeks, what does it look like?” “It looks like you’re making enough gingerbread to both house and feed an army.” Bradley laughed at that. “You think you’re up for helping me out?” “I’ll make the best gingerbread house you’ve ever seen.”
Santa baby by KarenFreitas19 {E}
Bradley is sitting in the armchair dressed as Santa Claus. Well, more or less, he wears red pants, boots and the hat, but his shirt is unbuttoned and he doesn't have a beard.
Home for the Holidays by Nickies_Nonsense {G}
“Well let me know if you need a ride anywhere,” Rooster said. Jake did not think he was serious. “For real?” he asked, shoving the note of hope back down his own throat, “I might need to take you up on that like..soon.” Rooster gave him a little smile, “I mean it, it’s the season of giving and all that bullshit,” he drawled. “Plus you got me coffee so I owe you.” Or, how Jake and Bradley got back together just in time for the holidays with the help of one broken car, a scheming Maverick, and the spirit of Christmas to guide them. Featuring lots of Jake questioning his life decisions, his ideals, and why Bradley needs to consume unreasonable amounts of sugary coffee everyday.
if you need a friend by acetonitril {G}
The Dagger squad reunite at the Christmas market. Things Jake says: "I want to watch them light the Christmas tree." Things Bradley says: "I want to have Jake's children." A silly story about a lost child.
Being your something (for Christmas) by WaffleToaster {E}
It all started because of a damn Christmas sweater. Bradley's pretty sure there's some underlying motive behind all this, all he wants to do is to survive the party, but Jake ends up making everything ten times worse than it actually is. So what can he do other than defend his pride? Throw in some alcohol, some stupid questions and some shameless behaviour and just maybe.. maybe, he'll admit that he's actually having fun. And maybe he'll also admit that he's kind of hoping for something more..
all I want (is you) by OfTheDirewolves {T}
A text message sends Bradley Bradshaw reeling and makes him have some very needed realizations. Will he finally get the courage to make a move? & will the man he loves reciprocate?
Kissin' by the Mistletoe (until we get it right) by MadeItUp, Notchka88 {T}
Penny’s Christmas Party is an annual tradition. It's invite only, and the entry requirement is a dish for the potluck, an ornament for the tree, or ten bucks for the tip jar. All Jake has to do is put in an appearance and then he can leave. But leaving the Hard Deck soon proves more challenging than Jake was expecting. If only he could figure out who is the right person to kiss under the mistletoe...
Make the Yuletide Gay by imafriendlydalek {G}
Mav is looking over Ice’s left shoulder, toward Seresin and Bradshaw, as he says, “The kids seem to be getting along. Is this your doing?” Ice smiles down at him, and maybe it’s just the holidays, or the champagne, or it’s because his doctors recently declared him cancer-free, or because Maverick has finally moved in officially now that he has come to terms with not flying anymore. Whatever it is, it’s making Ice’s heart feel like it could burst with how inordinately fond he is of this man. “I was barely involved. All I did was give them a little nudge out the door.” Mav arches an eyebrow. “Sure thing, Gandalf.” *** Hangman and Rooster, as observed by Iceman, with a special appearance by Bob, a facetious yet observant little shit.
Family Cabin by viridimessorem {T}
If you'd told Jake in October of 2018 that he'd, in the future, end up introducing Bradley Bradshaw to his family as his boyfriend, he'd have, for one, punched you, for another, laughed his ass off because that would never happen. And yet, it had.
Resting Grinch Face by chase_acow {M}
If anyone were to ask Bradley if he felt the holiday spirit, he’d say sure. After all, his bruises had faded to green and his newer scars were finally a dull red. His santa hat cocked jauntily on his head as he played the piano. There was a twink dressed as an elf cuddled up on his left, and on his right an over-sized mug of spiked eggnog. What more did a man need for the holidays?
let's make christmas merry, baby by davidbyrne {T}
Bradley stares at it for so long that the man in front of the counter clears his throat in annoyance. He blinks back to himself, looking up at the man dressed in business casual and sporting an annoyed look. “Sorry, you want me to wrap this?” “Yes,” the man says, exasperated. “That’s why I’m at the gift-wrapping station.” Or 4 times jake brings something ridiculous for bradley to wrap and one time he brings himself
my heart is a christmas tree farm by greatea {E}
It's not like going to your ex-boyfriend's family Christmas while pretending to still be dating is a common favor to be asked for. But he did agree to this, when Jake phoned him up. It hadn't even taken much convincing. First, Jake had expected an immediate no when he called Bradley one Thursday evening. That didn't come. After Jake explained the situation, Bradley had said that he'd think about it. He called back an hour later. Jake's unsure what he would have done if Bradley had said no. Called his mom back and said, "Hey, do you remember when you asked me if I was bringing my boyfriend Bradley to Christmas this year, and I said yes? Yeah, we broke up two months ago and I lied for no reason"? - or the one with the fake dating
All I want (for Christmas) by KazanskIce {M}
“It’s… almost midnight,” Jake stutters, hoping that his time estimation is right. It’s been a couple of hours since the start of the party and he hasn’t been checking his watch. “What about it?” “You know what they say… about kissing someone at midnight.” Bradley laughs shortly, but it doesn’t seem like he’s trying to be mean. When he stops, his eyes return to Jake. “Yeah, I know. Doesn’t matter, because it’s not New Year’s Eve,” he says. He’s either not getting the point or purposely trying to throw Jake off.
Happy Holidays, from the Bradshaw-Seresins by flyingfightingfishy {T}
Bradley and Jake send out a Christmas card every year, and this year the Daggers have made it into the address book. Too bad most of them didn't even know that Bradley and Jake were married! Confused doesn't even begin to cover it.

You were content with the quiet life you led. Working as a librarian on a US Navy installation allowed you that freedom. NAS Miramar wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge either. When you worked in the public library system, you were busy quite often…and it was starting to wreak havoc on your mental health. Luckily, around the time you were trying to decide what to do with your career, your brother, Mickey ‘Fanboy’ Garcia, called you to let you know he was going to be stationed at NAS Miramar for the foreseeable future to be part of the now permanent Dagger Squad.
So, you moved to San Diego and onto the installation with Mickey, leaving your hometown behind (it didn’t really bother you to leave because your parents had been gone for several years and your introverted nature didn’t grant you close friends). He helped you get the job at the library and that was that.
The day you finished unpacking your things, Mickey told you he was going to take you out to meet the rest of the squad because the only person you knew was Reuben and you needed to meet some new people in your new home:
“Are you sure that’s okay? I don’t want to invade your group or anyth--"
“Sis…really? This night is for you! I’ve told them all about you and how excited I am to have you with me again.” You smiled big and giggled.
“Aw, you’re such a sweetheart, aren’t ya little bro?”
“Shut up”, pouted Mickey. You grabbed his hand and pulled him to you.
“Thanks. Te quiero, hermanito.”
“I love you too.”
When you and Mickey arrived at the local watering hole, The Hard Deck, you were instantly greeted by Reuben. He pulled you into a tight hug, calling you Little Garcia (which was a ridiculous nickname, seeing as how you were older than Mickey by a year). Shortly after that, Bob, Rooster, Phoenix, and Coyote showed up. You were all sitting around one of the pool tables, drinking beers (in your case, it was an ice cold Dr. Pepper because you weren’t big on drinking) when you heard the most suave and cocky sounding, Texas accent ever:
“What do we have here?” You saw Phoenix roll her eyes and smile.
“Little Garcia, this here is Bagman.”
“Hangman.”
“Whatever.” Hangman laughed and pulled Phoenix into a hug. When she let him go, he turned to look at you.
“So, you’re Fanboy’s sister.” You nodded.
“Y-yes. That’d, uh, that’d be me.”
“Well m’dear, we’re all really happy that Fanboy has you close by again.”
“I’m glad to be here Hangman.” He smiles big and sits on the barstool next to you.
“Please, call me Jake.”
“Okay, Jake.” If this man keeps looking at you with those gorgeous green eyes, you were going to melt.
“So, tell me Little Garcia, what do you do?”
“I’m a librarian. I’m going to be working on base and living with Mickey”, you replied. “Since I was moving down here, he managed to get out of the barracks and into a small house on base.” Jake clapped his hands together and looked around at the group.
“You’re going to be living on the base? That means you deserve your own callsign!” The rest of the squad voiced their agreement. “The question is, what do we call you?”
“How about Libby?” suggested Bob. He made a face when everyone groaned. “I know, I know.” A few of the others made their own suggestions of library related callsigns before Jake stood from his spot next to you.
“I’ve got it!” Jake turned back to you with a huge smile on his face, “How about…Dewey?”
You felt heat crawling up your neck because of the way he was looking at you, like you were the only woman in the room. You knew that that wasn’t possible, that someone as good looking and amazingly talented and a hero like Jake would never look at someone like you that way. Why would a man who looked like he was crafted by Zeus himself look at a chubby librarian twice, when he could have women like Phoenix, or your cousin Isabella (who stole the first boy you ever really had a chance with, away)?
“I like it. Thanks, Jake.” He pulled you into a hug, squeezing you tight.
Oh Lord. You were in trouble.
That was a year ago. Over the last year, it was like you became an honorary member of the Dagger Squad. They became the family you and Mickey were missing. Most of them came to visit you at work. One of those people was Jake. The first time he came by, a month after the two of you met, you were shelving books and he’d snuck up on you, giving you a moment worthy of fan fiction itself.
You stepped up onto the plastic footstool and filed the book in its spot, on the topmost shelf. You had an earbud in and were singing quietly along to “Remember Me” from Coco since you very rarely ever got someone in the library this early in the day, which meant you didn’t hear the door open, and you didn’t hear footsteps coming towards you. You felt something tap you on the shoulder and you let out a scream, feeling yourself tilt backwards. You squeezed your eyes shut and braced yourself for the inevitable pain, but it never came. Instead, you felt the warm embrace of familiar arms.
“You can open your eyes now, darlin’.” Opening one eye, you saw Jake smiling at you. “Sorry I scared you, Dewey.”
“Oh, it’s not a problem. I should’ve been paying more attention and–” It was then that you realized Jake was holding you bridal style. “Oh my God! Jake! Put me down! You’re going to hurt your back or something and I’m going to get in trouble for breaking government property. I’m way too hea–”
You would’ve rambled on had Jake not stopped you.
“Dewey. I’m going to need you to relax. You’re not going to mess up my back and you’re not going to get in trouble. I have trained a long time and I don’t want to sound like a cocky bastard–” You gave him a judgmental eyebrow raise and a Look. “Okay, you have a point.”
“Seriously Jake, I don’t want to hurt you!” Jake rolled his eyes but put you down carefully. “Thank you. I know you work out..I mean look at you, of course you do. I just-lifting weights and doing bench presses is one thing, Jake…”
“Dewey…”
“Thank you for saving me from getting hurt”, you say before Jake can continue with whatever platitudes someone as good looking, built, and thin as him can come up with. You smooth out the skirt of your bright red button front chiffon dress and look up at him since he has at least half a foot on you. “Is there something I can help you find today, Lt. Seresin?”
Jake’s jaw clenched and you could tell he wanted to say more. What you couldn’t figure out was why he seemed to care this much about how you thought of yourself. He was just a friend.
“Uh, no…no.” He ran a hand through his light brown hair. “My sister is coming to visit next week with my nieces for Family Weekend. Are y’all doing anything special?”
“Of course!” You gave him a big smile and proceeded to run through the activities that were planned.
The following week, you got to meet Jesse and Isla Seresin. The bonus was getting to see ‘Uncle Jake’ in action first hand and you hated it because every minute you spent in his presence was making you fall in love with him. This was something you didn’t want because you knew you couldn’t afford a broken heart. Not again. You’d only recently been able to put your heart back together finally coming to term with the loss of your parents. You weren’t going to let a crush derail that progress.
Over the next 10 months, Jake visited you at the base library often, acting like that first conversation between you two never happened. You’d ask after Isla and Jesse, how school was going and when they’d be back to visit again. Jake would even bring you gifts from the girls for their ‘favorite librarian’ when he’d come back from visiting them.
Sometimes Jake would come to the library because he needed to research something for a mission or because he needed to develop some sort of lesson plan now that he was an instructor at TOPGUN. Sometimes he’d come by just to chat. During those chats, you found yourself opening up to him. One day in October, almost a year after you moved to San Diego, Jake and some of the squad were at the library helping with the Halloween Festival for the kids the library staff was throwing in the parking lot. You and Jake were manning the ‘Balloon Dart’ booth, chatting away the time while waiting for some new challengers.
“You know Dewey, in all the time I’ve known you, I don’t think I’ve ever asked you what your favorite book is”, said Jake.
“Is this you asking?”
“Mmhmm.”
“Pride & Prejudice”, you replied, keeping your eyes on your feet. “I know, you don’t have to say it. It’s totally cliché.”
“It’s not cliché at all. It’s a good book.” You looked up at Jake’s comment.
“You like Pride & Prejudice?”
“Your Lizzie Bennett is showing, you know.”
“Sorry.”
“No worries. I read it for school, and I just really liked it”, said Jake. “So, why is it your favorite?”
“It’s one of the first books my mom and I read together”, you replied. Smiling sadly, you continue. “She’d read me a chapter a night. It took a while, but we finally finished it. Afterwards, we borrowed the six-disc BBC mini-series from our local library and watched it all in one day. Colin Firth was so handsome and a perfect Mr. Darcy. Then in 2005, she surprised me with tickets to the movie as a late birthday gift and I just adored Matthew MacFadyen’s version of Darcy. It fed my love of reading, which then inspired my choice in career. Before they died, mom and I had been looking for the ‘Peacock edition’ of the book that was released in 1894. It’s one of the most valuable and gorgeous versions because of the cover and illustrations by Hugh Thomson. I had almost tracked one down, but then…”
You looked away, not wanting to let Jake see you cry, but were unsuccessful. Jake reached over and tipped your face up so he could look you in the eye, and wrapped his free hand around your ample waist, pulling you closer.
“I’m sorry about your parents. It can’t have been easy for you and Fanboy.” He placed the hand he’d had under your chin on your cheek and wiped away the few tears that escaped.
“It wasn’t. He hides it better than I do, but he was just as broken. It’s why I’m so thankful for Reuben and the rest of you. When I couldn’t be there for him, all of you were…so, thank you, Jake.”
The way he was looking at you made you weak in the knees, and you saw him leaning towards you. Was Jake Seresin about to kiss you? Unfortunately, you wouldn’t find out because as he got closer, one of the kids ran up to the booth and you two jumped apart.
You watched him closely, out of the corner of your eye, the rest of the night. You made sure you were always busy with the kids or whatever else was needed at the booth so that you weren’t available to talk with Jake. You could tell he wanted to say something about what happened, but you really didn’t want to deal with the rejection and the explanation that it was a mistake.
As Jake was explaining the rules to one of the kids, you saw her mother fluffing her hair and adjusting her ‘assets’. She put on the biggest (fakest) smile she could when Jake turned his attention to her. You rolled your eyes as you eyeballed the diamond on her left hand. Did she think that he would just ignore that she was married and fall into her bed? You knew Jake was imperfect, but he would never stoop that low.
You loved him. You knew that now, because you gave up on trying to not fall in love with him months ago. You hoped it wasn’t obvious because you didn’t want to be that chubby girl who was in love with the hot guy and acted like a stalker. Becoming that stereotype was not going to happen.
Over the next month, you did absolutely everything in your power to avoid Jake Seresin. You changed your shifts at work as much as you could so you wouldn’t be there when you knew he had free time and if he came in when you were there, you made sure you were busy or your coworkers would take care of him for you. You didn’t go out to the Hard Deck on the weekends or anytime you knew he’d be there.
The week before Thanksgiving, you were at work when you received a visitor.
“Dewey?” You looked up from your work to see Phoenix in the doorway of your office.
“Hey Phe! Come on in.” She stepped into your office and took a seat across from you. “So, what brings you by?”
“We’ve missed you”, she said. “All of us.” The underlying meaning in her words didn’t skate past your understanding.
“I-I just can’t Phe. I won’t be able to get over him if I’m around him constantly. And I have to get over him because when he eventually finds someone–”
“Dewey, he doesn’t want to find anyone else.”
“Nat, I’m going to explain something to you, okay?” You took a deep breath and continued, “Men as good looking as Jake or Rooster or any of them don’t go for women like me. I know I’m not ugly, I never said that, but I am fat. It’s just a fact. Someone who takes care of himself like Jake is expected to be with a woman who looks like you. Like the high school trope, the quarterback and the cheerleader. I’m just the nerd who helps tutor the quarterback. Who, like an idiot, falls for him and thinks that because he was so nice to me, maybe I should tell him how I feel. When I do, he goes and laughs about it with his cheerleader girlfriend and all the other jocks.
I reached too far Nat. Like I said, I need to get over him because I need to be able to be around him when he finds his cheerleader.”
Phoenix huffed.
“I didn’t know you felt like this.”
“I’ve been dealing with this since I was a kid. I was compared to my cousin and how she looked.”
“Why didn’t you come talk to me?” Phoenix leaned forward and took your hand.
“Phe, you’ve got enough on your plate, enough to deal with”, you reply. “Besides, you’re not my therapist. I didn’t want to burden you with my problems. I’m already enough of a burden to Mickey. I’m his older sister and he thinks he has to take care of me.”
“Can I say something now?” she asked, and you nodded. “You are not a burden. Not to me, not to Jake, and especially not to Fanboy. He’s your brother and he loves you. Before you moved here, he may have smiled and joked around, but it never really meant much. He was just okay. After you let him know you were coming to San Diego, you should’ve seen how happy he was. His smile was huge, and his eyes didn’t look empty. You’ve made all of our lives better.”
By the time she finished, tears fell silently down your cheeks.
“Thank you, Phe. I love you, you know.”
“I love you too, Dewey.” Phoenix came around the desk and pulled you into a tight hug. “Believe it or not, this wasn’t the only reason I came to see you.” You pulled away and wiped your cheeks.
“What can I help you with?”
“Some of us are having a Friendsgiving thing next week. I wanted to know if you and Fanboy wanted to join us.”
“Um…”
“He’s going to Texas to see his family.”
“Okay then.”
Friendsgiving with Rooster, Phoenix, Reuben, and Mickey was one of the happiest times you had. After dinner, Phoenix brought out a small basket with several small pieces of paper.
“What’s this?” You looked over at your brother with a questioning look.
“Last Christmas, we all decided that a Secret Santa with the squad would be fun. Since it was a hit, we’re doing it again.” He took the basket from Phoenix and held it out to you, “It’s your first time, so you get the first draw. No take backsies, unless you get your own name.”
“Got it.” You closed your eyes and shoved your hand in the basket, rooting around for a few seconds before finally grabbing a paper. You unfolded it, shielding the paper from prying eyes. You smiled at the ‘Bob’ written on the paper. You were close enough with Bob and knew the perfect gift for him.
“When do we have to have the gifts ready?” you asked the group.
“Penny’s having a Christmas party at The Hard Deck next month on the 15th”, said Rooster. You felt your stomach drop. You weren’t making any progress in getting over the feelings you had for Jake, and you didn’t think you were ready to see him again.
“Awesome. Can’t wait.” Bob came in for Book Club all the time, so you could slip him his gift then and not have to worry about being at the party. Everyone would be so busy enjoying it, they probably wouldn’t even notice you weren’t there. How wrong you were.
Now.
Sure enough, the day before Penny’s Christmas party, Bob stopped by the library. He loved his gift; you’d gotten him a cookie decorating class that was online and prerecorded so he wouldn’t miss any of the days because of work and emphasized intricate decorating techniques.
He gave you a kiss on the cheek and a big hug in thanks, promising you the first batch of cookies he made with his newfound knowledge. Before leaving, he asked if he’d see you the next day at The Hard Deck. You felt bad about lying but told him no because you had to take care of something important. In reality, you were going to hide out at the library for a few hours and then go home.
So, you did. Your phone started going off only a few minutes after everyone was supposed to be arriving at The Hard Deck. You ignored the texts from Phoenix, Mickey, Bob, and Reuben and were about to shut your phone off when a call from Mickey came through.
“What?”
“Where are you?”
“I’m busy.”
“You’re a bad liar, you know, hermanita.” You rolled your eyes.
“Is there a reason you’re calling Mickey?”
“Everyone is wondering where you are.” You could hear voices and the jukebox going in the background; it sounded like a good time. “And I mean everyone.”
“Mickey…I can’t, okay? I won’t be a novelty or something he bides his time with until he finds someone better, someone prettier. Someone thinner and more appropriate for him.”
“That’s complete bullshit. And Hangman is a lot of things, but that isn’t something he’d ever do. Please believe me. When I met him, I thought he was a complete dick. The only one who didn’t was Coyote, and that’s only because they’ve been friends for years, so he knows how much of a good man Jake is.”
Mickey went on about Jake’s pros and as you were about to cut him off and hang up, you heard another voice.
“Fanboy, who are you talking to?” Jake. He’d seen your brother having a heated discussion while on the phone, and since he hadn’t seen you yet, he put two and two together.
“Don’t you say a word Mickey. Don’t you do it.”
“Um…”
“Fanboy, is it Dewey? Where is she?”
“I’m under orders to not say anything.”
“Bullshit. Tell me. Now. I need to talk to her.”
“No.” You knew your brother and you could hear his resolve weakening in his voice. Suddenly, you heard what sounded like a scuffle on the other end and shouts of Give it back Hangman! before another voice came on the line.
“Dewey? Dewey, please, tell me where you are. I need to talk to you.” You pressed ‘mute’, so he wouldn’t hear you starting to cry. “Please darlin’. Tell me where you are.”
You almost broke at the pleading in his voice. You didn’t understand why he was so determined about seeing you. You were just friends. You took a deep breath and unmuted the call.
“I’m sorry Jake, but I’m not going to do that.”
“Darlin’, pl–”
“Goodnight Jake.” You hung up and put your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’, so you could listen to music while you did some shifting and didn’t have to worry about phone calls interrupting you.
You were in a Metallica-type of mood, so you chose the correct playlist and put in your earbuds. ‘All Nightmare Long’ transitioned in to ‘Master of Puppets’ (your favorite song), and you shimmied along the aisles, shifting books around so they weren’t so tightly packed together.
Once again, you were so distracted by your task and the music, you didn’t hear someone knocking on the front door of the building or even walking in. He heard you, though. Jake called out for you, but when he didn’t get a response, he went to check your office. Seeing your things still there, he was dead quiet to find out where you were...until he heard you singing.
‘Come crawling faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Your life burns faster (faster)
Obey your master
Master!
Master!’
Jake took the stairs two at a time, finding you in the graphic novel section. You had your back to him, and he knew you were going to be mad, but he just had to. Unbeknownst to you, he tiptoed up to you and tapped you on the shoulder.
You let out an almighty shriek and spun around, your feet getting tangled together. Jake launched himself forward and caught you before you could fall and get hurt.
“You okay Dewey?” You smacked him on the chest and pushed him away.
“Jake Seresin! How could you do that to me?!” You pulled your earbuds out and pocketed them. You looked over at Jake and were glad to see he was looking slightly ashamed.
“I’m sorry darlin’.”
“What are you doing here Jake? I wanted to be alone.”
“I needed to see you.”
“Why? What could you possibly have to say to me right now? There’s a party with everyone there and yet you’re here, wasting your time with me.” You crossed your arms and leaned against the shelf.
“First of all, you’re not there, so not everyone is there.” Jake reached behind him and pulled a wrapped, rectangular something he’d tucked into his back pocket. “Secondly, I needed to give you this. I’m your Secret Santa.’
“You could’ve just given it to Mickey to give to me.”
“Dewey, just take it, please.”
“Fine.” You reached over and took the package from Jake’s hands. You were carefully unwrapping the gift when Jake spoke up.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
“I haven’t b–”
“Don’t lie to me. I may act like an idiot, but I’m not one. Anytime I go to visit you, either you’re not there because you changed your schedule, or you get one of the others to deal with me. When we all get together at the Hard Deck, you never show. Fanboy feeds us whatever lie you tell him, but I know better. I know you, something happened to make you avoid me and the others.”
“Jake…” Before you could continue, you pushed the wrapping paper of the gift to reveal a book. A copy of the ‘Peacock Edition’ of Pride & Prejudice, originally published in 1894, making this a first printing. You carefully opened the book to look through it. No creases, the spine was perfect for a book that was almost 130 years old, and it was beautiful.
“Do you like it?” In your astonishment, you’d forgotten he was standing there.
“Jake, Jake, I-I-I can’t believe you remembered?”
“I did.” You felt tears starting to form and threatened to fall down your cheeks.
“Jake, I c-can’t accept this. It-It’s too much.”
“It’s not too much darlin’. I just hope it makes you feel closer to your mom.” The tears fell in a steady flow now. Jake rushed forward and took your face in your hands. “Please don’t cry baby.”
You shut your eyes and basked in the feeling of his hands on your cheeks.
“Why did you do this Jake? This isn’t something you do for a friend for a Secret Santa gift.” You hear Jake chuckle.
“Open your eyes darlin’.” You took a deep breath and slowly opened your eyes to look into green ones. “You know why, Dewey.”
“I need you to say it. I won’t believe it unless you do.”
“I love you, Miss Garcia.”
“Jake…” You gave him a big watery smile.
“I know you have your reservations because of some weird reason that you think you don’t deserve me just because of the way you look. Baby, that can’t be further from the truth. I love you because of who you are, of what you’ve overcome, of what you’ve done–”
“I’m just a librarian, Jake. I’m not anyone special. But you, you’re a literal hero. I read, you fly planes and save the world…how could I ever measure up?”
“Darlin’, you’re a hero too, to the girls. I can never talk with Isla and Jesse without hearing Miss Garcia this and Miss Garcia that and When can we see Miss Garcia again, Uncle Jake? They were both having trouble with their reading, but after meeting you, they’re the top readers in each of their classes.”
“I–” Before you could say anything else, Jake surged forward and kissed you. You’d only ever been kissed a few times in your life, but this blew the other kisses out of the water, it obliterated them. It reminded you of The Princess Bride, and the thought brought a smile to your face.
When the lack of air finally became an issue, you pulled away and leaned your forehead against Jake’s.
“I love you too, Jake, so much.”
Jake smiled that perfect smile of his and kissed you again. So focused on the kiss, neither of you heard the footsteps up the stairs, and didn’t know Reuben, Mickey, Rooster, Coyote, Phoenix, and Bob were watching the two of you make out until Coyote spoke up.
“Yeah buddy! Get your girl!” You and Jake broke apart in surprise.
“What the hell guys?!”

-
Walking towards the training room, you heard the familiar voices of the other pilots. You had been reunited with the dagger squad, and some other pilots you knew from the past. Another mission, another training program, trained once again by Maverick.
Through the grueling training and test flights, you were enjoying your time being with the others again. Though you had to admit you were excited about one, more than the others, but you were sure they didn't know that.
As you entered the room, your eyes cast over the group. Hangman and Rooster were bickering as usual, while Bob and Phoenix rolled their eyes. Fanboy, Payback and Coyote watched silently, sharing the occasional look.
Seeing you enter Jake turned in his seat "Y/n, perfect, perhaps you could solve our little problem."
"Nope, no." You shook your head as you took your seat, "Do not drag me into whatever is going on, I don't want to be a part of it."
Phoenix and Bob snickered as Jake leaned over"Come on, I think you'd be on my side."
"Like hell they would." Rooster broke in.
You shook your head with a soft smile as you saw Maverick enter. "Pilots, good morning." He said with a cheery voice.
His eyes ran over you and the others as he walked past. In his hands was a Santa hat.
As he stopped at the podium he looked at all of you in silence for a short moment. "Before we start our training today, I thought we might have a little Christmas fun."
You quirked your brow and sat up a bit, you saw the others do the same.
"Sir?" Bob asked with a curious tone.
"Secret Santa!" He said with a smile.
A small murmur went over the group as Maverick shook the hat in his hands. "In this hat are all of our names. You will each pick a name, and over the next three days, starting tomorrow, you have to give your person three gifts."
"Three?" Jake spoke up.
"Yes, three. On day three, by the end of the day, you must give me a slip of paper with the name of the person you gifted, and the name of the person you think is your gift giver. If you guess correctly, you get a day off of training. If you are wrong. You will be cleaning up after the Christmas party."
A small groan came from the group as you all pictured what mess would be left behind after that.
"There are two rules. One, don't get caught leaving your person a gift, or you are disqualified. Two, do not tell anyone who your person is."
As Maverick walked around holding the hat out for everyone to take a name, your eyes scanned over everyone. You wonder who would be the easiest person to buy a gift for. Your eyes lingered on one person as you thought of a thousand things you could get them.
"If you get yourself, grab a different name." He said softly as he continued down the line.
Getting to you, he gave you a small smile as you reached in. Pulling out a slip of paper you opened it to read 'Natasha 'Phoenix' Trace.' You smiled softly before closing the paper and shoving it in your pocket.
After everyone had chosen their names, the class went on like usual, though you knew everyone was a bit distracted, thinking of what to get their chosen person. Though it wasn't a competition, a familiar buzz ran through the room.
You tried not to look at Phoenix, not wanting to give away she was who you got. But you did glance around, wondering if you might find someone looking at you.
You would be lying if you didn't have someone particular in mind as to who you hoped might be your secret Santa. The same person you thought would be the easiest to buy for. Though, the luck of them getting you was pretty small.
By the end of training you had enough time left to go out and try to find a gift for Phoenix. You had thought long and hard about the types of gifts she might like, but you still struggled. Knowing she had a thing for antique and vintage objects, you thought going to an antique store might do the trick.
Walking through the store, you looked at various objects, before finally landing on an old hourglass carved out of wood. It was certainly unique, and looked old. Buying it, you hoped she would like it. Knowing you wouldn't really know for a few days.
Making it back to the base after another hour of shopping you felt relieved, having bought three gifts for Phoenix, and some wrapping paper.
As you walked down the corridor, you saw Bob walking towards you. He smiled and his eyes caught on the wrapping paper in your hands.
"Don't tell me you got all your gifts already?" He asked with mild surprise.
You smiled "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't" You said jokingly as you continued past him, seeing him smile at you as he nodded in understanding.
As you rounded the corner, you looked back, seeing him disappear around the corner. 'I bet he's a great gift giver' You thought to yourself as you made your way back to your room.
Unpacking your shopping bags, you looked at the gifts you got Natasha. The hourglass, a gift card for one of her favorite shops she could never convince herself to buy something from, and a Phoenix pendant necklace you managed to find by chance in a cute shop near the beach. You had almost jumped in excitement when you saw it.
After wrapping the gifts, you finally went to sleep, your last thoughts being about who may have picked your name from the hat.
--- --- ---
During your break in between training the next day, you snuck Natasha's first present out of your room and quickly made your way to her room. Setting the present down in front of her door, you rushed back to your room. Breathing a breath of relief as no one spotted you.
As you rounded the corner to your room, you stopped as you spotted a bouquet of flowers placed at your door.
"Wha-" You looked back down the hall in bewilderment.
You had only been gone for a few minutes, and you hadn't seen or heard anyone else.
"Sneaky" You whispered to yourself as you walked up to your door.
Picking up the flowers, you smiled at them. It was a beautiful bouquet of Gardenias in an ornamental Christmas colored vase. You smelled them as you made your way into your room.
You knew it was a well known fact that you loved flowers, and often knew the meaning behind them, enjoying the symbolism of each individual flower. You were teased by some of the others about this in the past, which didn't really narrow down who might be your secret Santa.
"Gardenias" You muttered to yourself as you tried to remember the meaning behind them.
Seeing a small note in the flowers, you pulled it out to see a short typed note.
'There's importance in the symbolism.'
You smiled as you remembered saying this once when the others were teasing you about why you were so determined to get the right flowers for someone as a gift.
Thinking back to that moment, you tried to remember who was in the room. Maverick, Hangman, Rooster, Bob, Fanboy and Coyote. Well, that doesn't narrow it down much.
"Appreciation? No, that's not it. Joy!" You knew that was at least one of them.
Setting the flowers on your table, you pulled out your phone to look it up. As you scrolled through the meaning of gardenias, your eyes caught on one particular meaning.
"Secret Love?" You asked softly, your heart beating heavily in your chest.
No, it could be the 'you're lovely' meaning. Just a friendly message. Not an admission. Unless it was?
As someone popped into your head, you felt a mild sense of hope, before you pushed it away. It might be a mistake. They may not have seen the meaning of gardenias as secret love.
You decided not to focus on this too much. Not until you knew more, maybe the next gift would tell you?
Hearing your alarm, you made your way out of your room for your next test flight. You took one last look at the flowers as you went.
As much as you tried, the idea of the flowers left for you being a confession stuck in your mind. You couldn't help but look at the others, wondering if it could be any of them.
You had hopeful thoughts for one, but that was all it was. Hope. There wasn't anything that made it seem obvious that they had feelings for you. Nor had there been from any of the others.
You were close to all of them, good friends. But secret love? You really weren't sure.
--- --- ---
The next day the pilots were abuzz with talk of their presents. Each trying to trick their Secret Santa into giving themselves away. Everyone eyed each other with suspicious gazes.
Natasha briefly mentioned the hourglass, and you could tell she had liked it. That was all the gratification you needed.
You kept your present to yourself, knowing that everyone would tease you about the flowers. Asking what their meaning was. You didn't want to out the meaning in case it was a mistake. So you played coy, only making everyone else more curious.
"Maybe their secret Santa forgot to give them their present?" Fanboy asked as he eyed you, his chin resting on the back of the chair in front of him.
You smiled softly at him and made a motion of a zipper across your lips as you looked to the front of the class as Maverick entered.
"Alright everyone, I know you are all talking about your secret Santa's Anyone get caught leaving a present?"
The was silence among the crowd and Maverick smiled "Good, stealth is important, I'd be disappointed if anyone got caught."
You were nervous to head back to your room after training. Expecting another present to be left for you. There was an odd sense of suspense, that you weren't sure was based around excitement or dread.
As you rounded the corner, and your eyes locked onto your door, you felt an odd pang in your chest as you saw nothing sitting at your door. Maybe they hadn't had time to leave it? Maybe they changed their mind on the prssent?
Getting to your door, you opened it, accepting that you were a bit disappointed. As you stepped into your room, you flinched as a small box fell from your door and bounced off your head, landing on the ground.
"What the hell?" You asked perplexed as you looked up at your door, seeing a small piece of tape, had been holding the box there. "How the hell-" You mumbled off as you reached down and grabbed the box.
You looked over at the window, wondering if they used it to get in. Or maybe they got the key?
Opening the small box, your heart was racing. Would this present give away another secret? Would it confirm or deny the meaning of the flowers? And why tape it to the door?
Seeing a small chain, you grabbed it and pulled it out, revealing a small glass apple on the end. It was cute, but you wondered why they chose it of all things.
Seeing a piece of paper in the box, you pulled it out. Taking a deep breath as you opened it.
Another typed out message.
'Did you know in Ancient Greece, to throw an apple at someone was a declaration of love?'
Your breath caught in your throat as you read over the message again and again. To throw an apple? So the rigged the box to fall on you as though they were throwing it at you?
You wanted to laugh, but your heart was hammering too heavily. You sat on your bed and looked over at the gardenias. So it did mean secret love. That wasn't a misunderstanding.
As you sat there, thinking it over, more realizations came to mind.
The person who got you happened to be in love with you, and was now using the secret Santa exchange as a way to tell you.
You let out a long drawn out breath. You were touched, and excited, yet nervous. There was only one person out of all the pilots these gifts would really mean something from. If it was any of the others, could you ever feel the same?
Who would know about Ancient Greece? You wondered. It definitely seemed like some odd fact Bob, Rooster or Fanboy might pick up at some point. Hangman could be a secret romantic. Maverick was playing the game too and he knew a lot about random things.
You felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety wash over you. Lying down you stared up at your cieling as you held the small apple necklace to your chest. It wasn't obvious who it could be. Would it be an insult to this person to keep hoping it was one specific person?
It would only hurt you more if you kept hoping it was them, and you were wrong.
Maybe the third gift would give it away. Sitting up, it suddenly donned on you that you needed to leave Natasha her second gift.
"Shit." You muttered as you looked over at envelope with the gift card. I could slip it into her locker, you thought. Or slip it under her door.
This secret Santa exchange took such a different turn than you were expecting, and you really didn't know how to act.
Looking at the clock, you saw it was nearly time to head out. You were all heading out to get dinner. You'd take the envelope with you, hoping to find a moment to slip it into her bag or car sometime during the night.
And maybe you could gather some hints about who might be your secret...admirer?
--- --- ---
As you walked across the tarmac the next day, your eyes landed on the person walking up to you.
"Nice time." Rooster said as he slowed in his step.
"Thanks, think you can beat it?" You asked with a teasing tone.
"I know I can." He winked before continuing past you and towards his jet.
You smiled and shook your head softly as you headed towards the locker room. After a long day of training, you were finally done.
You even managed to slip the last gift for Phoenix into her bag this morning. Having slipped the envelope under her door the previous night once you got back from the dinner.
During said dinner, hen the topic of secret Santa came up, you tried to pay attention To hints of who might be your secret Santa. But you learned nothing, everyone was keeping it close to their chests.
Today was the last day of the Secret Santa exchange. By eight this evening you had to give Maverick a slip of paper with your guess on it. You had yet to receive your third gift, and had yet to figure out who it was.
Opening your locker, you watched as an envelope fell to the floor. You looked around, seeing and hearing no one else in the room. Picking it up, you opened it, with your heart beating faster than before.
The third gift, what would it be? A full length confession? A gift card?
As you pulled two slips of paper out, your mouth opened slightly in surprise.
One slip was a ticket to a Christmas festival behind held about an hour away tomorrow night. You had wanted to go, but the tickets sold out too fast.
The second piece of paper was a short note, once again typed out.
'I have the other ticket, find me there.'
You stared at the paper in contemplation. So they had every intention of you finding out who they were after all. 'Find me there.'
It had to be someone who knew you wanted to go to the festival. Who did you mention it to?
Thinking back on it you sighed. Five of them knew about the ticket. That hardly narrowed it down. Though you were still aware that that specific someone always on your mind was one of them.
Tucking the ticket and note back into the envelope you put it in your duffle. You needed to decide what to do.
Not only who to guess, but whether or not you were ready to find out who they were. To find out who apparently had hidden feelings for you.
Your mind was heavy with uncertainty as you headed to Maverick's office at the end of the day. As you knocked on the door and handed him the paper, your heart was never steady.
You didn't know who you would find at the festival tomorrow, but you knew who you wanted it to be. Whether or not it was them, you would go, you had to. And if it was someone that you didn't have feelings for, well, you would deal with it then. No matter what.
Even with the nerve wracking thought it was unrequited love you might be finding at the festival, the hope that it was not unrequited, that it was a shared feeling, hidden between the two of you, made it worth the risk.
You just hoped you still thought that tomorrow.

The Gift Exchange I Top Gun Dagger Squad edition
Summary: The Dagger squad celebrates Christmas with their annual gift exchange.
Warnings: Fluff, humor, adult banter
Length: 1000 words
Pairing: a mention of Rooster x girlfriend
Masterlist for more fun
It was Christmas Eve, and time for the annual Secret Santa gift exchange before everyone dispersed to spend Christmas Day with their families. The Dagger squad met up at Bob's house with bottles of wine, along with their gifts.
"Welcome! Happy Holidays!" Bob greeted all of the aviators as they arrived. His jolly Santa hat was perched on his head. "Drinks and snacks are in the kitchen."
Phoenix kissed his cheek, making him blush, before she and Fanboy made their way to the kitchen.
"Should we raise the limit on how much we're allowed to spend on gifts for next year?" Phoenix asked, opening a bottle of wine. "Twenty bucks doesn't really seem like a lot when I always end up having to buy something for the most high maintenance one of you."
"Oh, you got Hangman?" Fanboy asked, pouring himself a glass of wine.
"Of course I got Bagman. I get him every year!" Phoenix complained. "Who did you get?"
"Coyote," Fanboy whispered to her. "And I never know what to get for him!"
Rooster and Payback wandered into the kitchen, grabbing drinks from the fridge. "Bob wants to open presents soon," Rooster said. "But I told him I'm going to need a few drinks first. This gift exchange never ends well."
"For real," Payback chimed in. "Why do we even do it?"
"To celebrate the spirit of Christmas! Ho Ho Ho!" Bob exclaimed. "Let's all go into the living room and exchange gifts!"
"Fine," Phoenix agreed, grabbing her expertly wrapped gift and taking it in. She sat on the floor between Rooster and Coyote, and she chugged her glass of wine.
"Last year, Coyote got me deodorant," Payback said. "The gifts this year couldn't be as bad as that."
"You needed it," the others all said in unison, but Payback just rolled his eyes.
"I'll go first!" Bob said, cheerfully handing a red and silver wrapped gift covered in glitter to Fanboy. "Merry Christmas!"
Fanboy took the gift with a smile. "Thanks, Bob," he said as he unwrapped it. But then his smile turned to a frown. "How many times do I have to tell you guys... I like Star Wars! Not Star Trek!"
"Sorry, I don't actually know the difference..." Bob said with a grimace.
Fanboy held up the Klingon action figure. "Oh well, I can probably glue on some felt and turn him into a Wookiee. Here, Coyote."
He tossed a gift bag to Coyote, and a plunger fell out onto his lap. "Seriously? It was just that one time, man!"
"You broke the damn toilet," Rooster said. "The locker room has never been the same."
"Yeah," Hangman agreed. "Great gift for you, honestly."
"Whatever," Coyote groaned, setting the plunger down and passing a gift to Payback. "Merry Christmas," he mumbled.
"Thanks," Payback said, unwrapping a pair of sunglasses. "Dude, I gave these to you for your birthday."
Coyote just shrugged. "I guess they actually are better than a plunger. Wanna trade?"
"No, thank you," Payback said, passing a box of condoms to Phoenix. "Sorry, I didn't have wrapping paper."
"What am I supposed to do with these?" she asked, cautiously taking the box from him. Rooster and Hangman were absolutely cracking up.
Payback just gaped at her. "Uh, have sex without getting pregnant?"
"I'm dating a girl, dickhead," she replied, looking around at the dumbest group of men she had ever seen.
"Ohhh, right. Right," Payback said, suddenly understanding his error. "Well if you don't want them, I'll take them."
"Sure, whatever," Phoenix mumbled, handing the condoms back to him. "Here Bagman, this is for you."
Hangman carefully tore into the gold and green paper, smiling brilliantly when he held up the gift Phoenix got for him. "A Malibu Ken doll! Looks exactly like me! Thanks, Phoenix!"
"You're welcome," she replied with a smirk, pouring some more wine.
Hangman procured a wrapped box from behind his back and passed it to Rooster. "Now, Rooster, I did have to go above the twenty dollar limit, but your girlfriend was begging me to get this for you." He was already laughing before Rooster even opened it.
Rooster looked at him with narrowed eyes as he unwrapped the box revealing an enormous purple dildo. "She did not ask you to buy this!" Rooster took it out and waved it around, and the others joined in with Hangman's laughter. "Nobody needs nine inches!"
Hangman and the others were still laughing when Rooster passed Bob his gift.
"Merry fucking Christmas," Rooster said, still brandishing the dildo at anyone who dared to laugh.
"Did you get me a 5-pack of beer?" Bob asked Rooster. "What happened to the sixth one?"
Rooster shrugged. "I got thirsty earlier."
Bob timidly asked, "Doesn't anyone here remember that I don't drink?"
"Oh, right. Well, hand them right back, my friend," Rooster told him, and he sat cradling the 5-pack and the dildo in his arms. "I'll take care of them for you."
"Why do we even bother doing this?" Phoenix asked. "We could all just go out for burgers together or something with our twenty dollars."
"It's the season for giving!" Bob tried to say, but everyone else just stood and started gathering up the gifts. He felt his smile falter a bit, feeling a little sad that he was the only one who loved the annual gift exchange.
But Bob watched as everyone shared a hug, genuinely wishing each other a happy holiday.
"Have fun with your nephews!"
"See you at the Hard Deck on New Year's Eve?"
"Bring some of that homemade pie back from Lemoore."
"Make sure you hug your mom for me!"
"Merry Christmas, Bob!" Everyone called as they left his house.
His heart felt full as he cleaned up the wrapping paper, wine glasses, and the purple dildo.

Secret Santa
Winter Whumperland: Day 6. Shared Holiday Meal
Fandom: Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick, Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, f!reader, Simpson!Reader
Summary: With everyone heading home for the holidays, the Daggers decide to throw a last-minute holiday party before they leave. And your secret Santa takes you by surprise.
Word Count: 1758
TW: Fluff
Notes: This idea started out as more of a group fic (hence the header) but slowly transformed into a Rooster fic as I wrote it.
It was a Christmas miracle that the entire Dagger Squad was somehow able to all get leave for the holidays. It was almost unheard of but no one wanted to ask any questions in case someone realized a mistake had been made. And so, tickets home to visit family had been purchased all around and everyone began to pack their bags to leave.
Only two members of the squad were staying in town. Rooster had agreed to spend the holidays with Mav, Penny, and Amelia. It was the first time in over fifteen years he would be spending the holidays with his godfather and both men were secretly very excited about the idea. And you were staying near North Island to spend the holiday season with your father. As the Air Boss at Top Gun, it wasn’t surprising that Cyclone wasn’t able to get Christmas day off, yet he had managed to work it out so he would be able to be home early. It was more than you usually got with him so you were beyond thrilled.
And yet….
It was amazing how close all of you had become in the last few months. While most of you had known each other either personally or by reputation before the Dagger Mission, the bonds that formed between the members of your team were stronger than any of you had experienced in past assignments. Personally, you chalked it up to Mav’s training and focus on teamwork and support. But regardless of the reason, the Dagger Squad had become its own small family.
Which was what made the fact you were all going to be scattered across the country for the holidays so bittersweet. You were all going to be with one family but leaving another behind. Which was why everyone immediately got on board when Bob suggested a mini-Dagger Christmas the night before everyone left.
It was decided they would hold a potluck dinner where everyone brought their favorite holiday treat. Payback organized a Secret Santa and had everyone draw names from his helmet when they were leaving training (Hangman had offered to do it, but no one trusted him not to put his name down on every slip of paper). Phoenix, Bob, and Fanboy took charge of the decorations while Coyote created the perfect holiday music playlist (yet another job everyone refused to let Hangman do). Rooster agreed to pick up the alcohol from the Hard Deck after you somehow managed to talk your dad into letting you hold the party in the rec room on base. For such little planning time, everything seemed like it came together flawlessly.
That was until you arrived. The room looked amazing. Strings of lights, tinsel, and ornaments covered the walls while large paper snowflakes hung down from the ceiling. A table had been set up along the back wall for the food and drinks so you quickly headed back there to deposit your plate of cookies.
But when you reached it, you stared at the items all laid out and sighed loudly. “Jake.”
Hangman crossed the room to where you were standing. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Wasn’t your job to make sure everyone was bringing something different?”
“Uh, if I remember correctly, you just said to find out what everyone was bringing and make a list.” He grinned widely. “I think everyone made excellent choices.”
You groaned as you looked back at the table which was filled with nothing but eggnog and a variety of cookies. So much for dinner.
“The eggnog on that end of the table is already spiked.” He pointed towards the six bottles to the left. Then pointing to the only small bottle on the right, he added. “That one is plain.”
Rolling your eyes, you said, “Good to know. I’ll make sure to tell Bob.”
Hangman grabbed a gingerbread man from the plate at the center of the table. With a wink, he snapped off the head between his teeth and said, “And don’t forget to try one of these. They’re an old Seresin family secret recipe.” And then he walked off to where Coyote was hooking up the speakers.
You groaned again as you scrubbed your hand over your face. It really shouldn’t have surprised you that Hangman would do this and if you had to guess, he probably even encouraged others to bring one of the two items in front of you.
“It’s okay. I just ordered a dozen pizzas and they should be here in about an hour.”
You looked up in surprise to see Rooster suddenly standing next to you. “You didn’t have to do that. That must have cost you a fortune.”
“Ah, don’t worry about it. I put it on Mav’s card.” Rooster said.
Laughing, you said, “Remind me to thank him later.” Poking Rooster in the chest, you added. “Great sweater by the way. Very appropriate.”
Rooster looked down at the giant chicken wearing a Santa hat that was on his chest. “Thanks. I saw it and couldn’t resist.”
The two of you stood in silence for a minute, each munching on a cookie. But just as you finished yours and was about to excuse yourself, Rooster pulled an envelope out of his back pocket and offered it to you. “I’m not sure how we are doing this, but this is for you. I’m your secret Santa.”
“Oh!” you said in surprise. “Thank you.”
Taking the envelope, you tore it open and peered inside. Your jaw dropped as you looked back up at him. “Are these…”
Rooster smiled as he nodded. “I know you were talking about how bummed you were that the concert sold out before you could get tickets. Merry Christmas.”
Still in shock, you removed the two plastic cards and the attached lanyards. “Rooster, these aren’t just tickets. These are backstage passes. Don’t tell me you put these on Mav’s credit card too?”
“No, then it wouldn’t have been a gift from me.”
“You realize we had a $20 gift limit. This is so, so much more than that!”
He shook his head. “Technically, I didn’t pay for them. I have a buddy from an old deployment who is working private security now, including for that concert. He owed me a favor so I just made a few calls.” He shifted slightly. “I hope that doesn’t lessen the gift.”
You threw your arms around his neck. “Are you kidding? Of course not! This is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much!”
“Oh, um, you’re welcome. I’m glad you like them.” He patted your back softly, clearly surprised by the hug. You pulled back to see his face had turned red underneath his mustache.
Releasing him and taking a step back, you said, “Man, now I just feel bad all I got Coyote was a dart board to set up in his dorm.” Looking down at your present again, you held up the passes. “Who is the second one for?”
Rooster shrugged. “Whoever you want. I figured you might have more fun if you have someone go with you.”
“Would… would you want to go? I mean, you did get them for me and pretty much everyone else I know around here will still be gone on leave. But if you don’t want to–”
“No. I’d love to go with you.”
You blinked in surprise. “Great! Um, yeah. We can figure out the details later but it’s a date!” You felt your cheeks grow hot. “I mean, not a ‘date, date’, just that we have set a date for us to do something. Together. I–I’ll stop talking now.”
“I got what you meant,” he said with a small smile.
You smiled back. Just then, Phoenix called to Rooster from the other side of the room. Glancing over, you said, “Looks like you’re needed. But thank you again. This really is the best Christmas present anyone has ever gotten me.”
“You’re welcome. And Merry Christmas.”
Rooster started to walk away but as he passed you, you reached out and grabbed his arm. Then you placed a quick kiss on his cheek. His face grew bright red once more but he smiled brightly at you. Then you released his arm and he walked over to Phoenix.
The rest of the evening went great. Once the pizzas arrived, no one really seemed to mind the overabundance of cookies and eggnog. When Mav and Penny showed up later in the night, everyone yelled “Thanks for the pizza” as they walked in. The bewildered couple just smiled and nodded as they exchanged glances. Rooster explained later and everyone had a good laugh about it.
Coyote loved his gift but told you not to tell Hangman about it. He wanted to practice in secret so he might finally be able to beat the other aviator. You promised and told him to let you know anytime he wanted someone to play against.
It was just before midnight when you saw your dad slip into the room. No one else seemed to have noticed Cyclone grab a drink and a few cookies before retreating to the back corner. Excusing yourself from your conversation with Bob and Phoenix, you walked over to him.
“Hey. Glad you could make it.”
He nodded. “I was just about to leave for the night and figured I would stop by to make sure you all hadn’t destroyed the place.”
“I would be mad you thought so poorly of us, but honestly, that doesn’t sound too unimaginable,” you laughed. Then you bumped your shoulder against his arm. “Thanks for arranging it so everyone gets to go home for Christmas. I know how much that means to all of them.”
He took a sip of his eggnog. “Yeah, well, they deserve it after what they accomplished this year.” Turning to look at you, he added, “Sorry you’re stuck here for leave. But I do appreciate you staying so we can spend the holidays together.”
You wrapped your arms around his waist and gave him a big hug. “Of course! This is the first time we’ve both been stateside for Christmas in years. I wasn’t going to miss the chance to celebrate with you.”
He squeezed you back. “Thanks, kiddo. I’m just sorry that I still have to work for most of your leave. It seems like such a waste of your time off.”
You caught Rooster’s eye from across the room and he gave you a shy, but warm smile. “Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m sure I can find something to keep me occupied.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The secret Santa exchange was over. Now everyone started to give their gifts to Leia. Coyote dashed for the tree and grabbed his gifts first. He held a box and two bags. He sat next to Leia and placed them next to her. “For you, Little V.” He pulled her in to him and kissed her head, “Merry Christmas, little babe!” He got Leia a 3D Star Wars lamp of the dark star, a diagram poster of an F-14 Tom Cat and F/A-18 super hornet. Leia’s eyes went wide, “Thank you uncle ‘Yote!” She jumped on him and gave him a hug and kiss on his cheek.
Bob wanted to go next. He asked Bradley to help him bring in a box from his car. When they brought it in, it was huge. He gave Leia the small box first. Inside was a small replica plane of Mav’s P-51 Mustang. Leia kissed it, “It’s like Papa Mav’s!” Leia started to unwrap the big box. She gasped and slapped back from the box, it was a mini piano for her. “IS THIS REALLY FOR ME?” She looked up at Bob with puppy dog eyes. “Is it really for me, uncle Rob?” He nodded and she started to cry. Bob went and held her, “Don’t cry vapor girl, you deserve the world. Merry Christmas, babe.” He wiped her tears.
Phoenix wiped her tears as she grabbed her gifts. She sniffled and chuckled. “I can’t top a piano.” She looked at Bob and laughed. She handed Leia a couple of bags and a box. Inside the first bag was a a custom made Leia Funko pop as a pilot. In the next bag was a Grogu snow globe. In the box was a sweater with Darth Vader’s chest plate. Leia squealed at her gifts from Phoenix. “Thank you, thank you, thank you Auntie Nix! Can I wear the sweater now?” She held it in her hands and bounced in place. Phoenix helped her put it on and placed a kiss on her forehead. “Muah! I’m glad you love it, Leia Rey.”
Fanboy danced over to Leia with his gifts. He handed her a big gift bag. “Merry ‘Sith’mas, Little Leia.” He winked at her. Leia looked at him with a big smile. “You like Star Wars too, uncle Mick?” She looked at him in disbelief. “I do.” He pinched Leia’s cheek. She opened the bag and removed the tissue paper. Fanboy got her a space mission launch kit and patches for her flight suit. Some of the few patches read, “WSO in training”, “Need for speed”, “Anytime Baby” and “Fleet Leader” Leia jumped into Fanboys arms. “Thank you, Uncle Mick.” She leaned her forehead to his. He kissed her nose, “You’re welcome, my little wizzo.”
Next was Payback. He had quite a few gifts for Leia to open. the first one she opened was a a cartoon portrait poster of Leia dressed as Princess Leia fighting a storm trooper. The next was a mini remote controlled BB-8. The last ones were little Lego figures of Star Wars characters. Leia looked at all her gifts. “Uncle Rue! Can we play with the BB-8 now!?” She held it up to him. He laughed and patted her head. “After you open your gifts from Santa Jake, we can definitely play with it, buttercup.” She jumped around, “Thank you, uncle Rue!” He squatted down and placed his hand on her hip. He kissed her cheek, “You’re absolute welcome, Vapor.”
Last but not least was Santa Jake. He grabbed his bag of presents for Leia. “Alright Honey, get ready.” Leia sat in front of him. The first gift she opened was Darth Maul lightsaber to add to her collection. The next gift was an airplane launcher gun. The next was a record player and a record of Harry Styles’ Harry’s House album. Leia freaked out at the album. “UNCLE JAKEY! OUR SONG IS ON HERE!” She held it close to her chest. He smiled, “It Is, Honey! Now you can dance to it anytime!” He pulled out the last gift. She opened it. It was her own fighter pilot helmet that was purple white and black that read “Vapor” along with her own aviation head set. Leia was speechless. She didn’t breathe. She was still. She started to shake with the helmet and headset in her hands. She sobbed. “Thank you, Uncle Jakey. I love you so much.” She collapsed into his arms. He held her close and kissed her head over and over again. “Anything for you, Leia Rey. Merry Christmas, Sweetheart.” He kissed her one more time.
After all the gifts were given to Leia, you and Bradley cleaned up the wrapping paper and started to sort her toys in her play area. You and Bradley thanked everyone individually for the gifts they all got for Leia. It was definitely known your little girl was loved by the Dagger squad.
Dagger Squad Christmas Headcannon
The Squad host Christmas at whoever has the biggest house
Which is Jakes and Bradley's house if the boys aren’t in Texas with Jake's family
Christmas with Dagger Team normally starts with Mav telling them about something stupid he and Goose did
This year it was when they went inverted of bandit
Bradley ends up laughing but also crying a little bit herring about the story
Everyone thinks it's cool
Jake always ends up with his arm around Bradley
There's spiked eggnog courtesy of Cayot
Most of the squad ends up sleeping at Bradley and Jakes that night
But they do get breakfast out of it most times
There's also secret Santa that happens too
This though there was something special Jake proposed to Bradley by the Christmas tree
Bradley said yes obviously
The dagger squad loves Christmas
One because they can all get together and not wear uniforms
They also just love being their little family
Mav gets called pops at least a thousand times on Christmas day
@kaceywithak
i figured it would be easier to make a post so here are some hangster fic recs! all of these fics are on ao3 but i’ll also provide links.
this world is gonna break your heart by youlookgood
this one’s kinda sad but also i love the ending and idc that this scene didn’t happen in canon,, it’s canon to me now! basically, hangman is feeling awful about himself and begs rooster not to die
in light of a candle (like something new) by youlookgood
this is a bradley birthday fic!!! i loved it sm and istg sereshaw are so cute in it <3
i’ll take my time (i’m not a forward thinker) by thegeckbros
I CANT STRESS TO YOU HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS FIC!! ITS SO CUTE ARE YOU KIDDING ME. basically the entire dagger squad end up doing secret santa and bradley gets jake. but the rules are that the person you have can’t guess that you’re their secret santa so bradley has to hang out with jake to find out what he likes 🤭 ALSO THE GIFT BRADLEY GIVES HIM IS SO SWEET I ALMOST STARTED CRYING
why don’t you speak by hidgensbf
THIS FIC IS MWAH CHEFS KISS 😘🤌❤️ I LOVED IT SO MUCH !!! it’s basically the 5+1 format with 5 times jake worried about bradley & 1 time he voiced those concerns. it’s post canon bc obviously rooster’s gonna have some ptsd. i loved this fic sm and ik i’m supposed to be giving you recs but i love these types of fics so if you know any fics where jake takes care of bradley or vice versa PLEASE PLEASE tell me 🫶
a little goes a long way by hidgensbf
THIS FIC IS PURE PERFECTION!! it’s basically a celebrity fake dating au and LET ME TELL YOU ITS DONE SO WELL!! it’s a mix of comedy and cuteness like istg the groupchats had me crying laughing– everyone is literally betting on jake & bradley to get together. also chapter 9 is so fucking cute i was squealing so hard. the entire fic had me giggling and kicking my legs ngl
in plain sight by hidgensbf
ok all of hidgensbf’s fics are on here but i cant help it theyre all so good. this is a collection of one shots based on the previous fic
like father like son by hidgensbf
THIS FIC IS SO GOOD. it’s kinda angsty and sad but like thats bc jake is angsty and sad,,,but (and like i said earlier, i love these fics) bradley takes care of him bc jake is like so shitfaced drunk in this
and i never knew i could feel that much (and that’s why i loved you) by happypuppys
this is the first ever hangster fic i read and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! its so 💕💞💖💘💗💓 bradley’s in the hospital after the mission & jake is there when he wakes up and it’s just very, very cute
something’s bound to begin by youlookgood
THIS IS SO CUTE ARE YOU KIDDING ME. it’s post-canon and from hangman’s perspective. it’s a slight bit angsty but mostly just bc jake feels unloved– buttt then it’s the cutest shit ever with bradley.
back to basics (‘cause they’re bigger than they seem) by stories of my life
this fic has a little bit of sexual content (there’s no smut it’s just mentioned) fyi, but it’s super goddamn cute!! basically, jake is guarded and he’s trying to be independent even though he’s exhausted but bradley surprises him by showing up and taking care of him!! <3
can’t sleep without you by local_troubled_writer
this fic is the cutest thing ever !! it’s so fluffy i love it sm <33
let it snow by anadorablack
this is so cute omfg!! literally perfect for christmas. bradley & jake are neighbours but they get snowed in for xmas so jake invites bradley to his to keep warm and whilst they hang out they develop feelings for each other!!
ok that’s all!! i might update this fic as i read more because hahaha i have a hyperfixation & there’s so many good fics out there that i just know i need to share with other people once i read them
i’ve read like 30k words of hangster fics today this is insane what has this hyperfixation done to me
