rereading the beginning of the hedge knight and i'm soooo interested in the differences in parenting between baelor and maekar.
we first meet maekar's sons daeron and egg. one too drunk and the other wanting to run away then we meet baelor's son valarr, a knight with good enough ability to ride in a tourney and this is what their parents have to say about them
baelor is understanding of his family. trying to make a compromise because he was /born/ of the compromise between the targaryen and martell. valarr obviously doesn't have baelor's ability with the lance (and the question of the competitors throwing the competition is another) but he's good enough and seems to enjoy at least the pageantry.
to maekar baelor's soft because he tells him he "should never have commanded [daeron] to enter the lists". maekar is not a person who like to be tell what to do, and what's more he believes his sons are extensions of himself. his sons are going to be perfect and defeat baelor's son if it kills them. it's not the first time daeron has disappeared, per baelor's words and we can guess why! maekar's expectations weight him down. the anvil never yields to anything!
baelor tells maekar "daeron is your blood and mine" in the excerpts at the beginning, seeking to make his brother understand his own son for what he is (and that he makes the comparison between daeron, aerys and rhaegel is so so interesting! maekar's own frustrations with his brothers later projected to daeron?).
later baelor once again express the same sentiment "they are blood of his blood" but with completely different meaning. /his/ blood, not /your and mine/. maekar's blood, his family, is different than the others, TO MAEKAR. they need to be better, faster, stronger, to stand out. he sees his family with the same fourth brotherism pov he feels. the inferiority syndrome to the max.
...and this inferiority is what makes him push daeron to enter the trial as well, considering he very well knows how inept his son is at this seeing he knows daeron's habits of whoring and drinking. maekar doesn't understand other people besides himself, he's half fooled by aerion's good boy facade and thinks daeron is fine and he only needs pushing.
in contrast, while baelor seems sad to dunk when he comes out to fight for him he comes with valarr's armor. this is mere speculation but i want to think baelor thought valarr would offer himself to fight for dunk's cause. baelor clearly supports it and he must think his son does as well. but from what we've seen about valarr, he's mediocre at best and has no great interest in great deeds, if he were he would train harder and probably be as good as baelor. but he is not! he accepts valarr won't change his mind just as he accepts maekar won't either. so baelor must wear valarr's tighter armor and be the good he wants to see in the world.

If Nettles was white, she would be as popular as Lyanna, Brienne or Arya, and yâall know it.
She grew up a homeless orphan (which is why itâs so insulting when people try to act like sheâs a freaking idiot who doesnât know how to bathe herself yet she can tame a dragonđ€Šđœââïž Put most of the highborn women in her position and they wouldnât survive a day in her shoes).
Sheâs the only known non-Valyrian dragonrider who claims a wild dragon. A prince who believes in Valyrian supremacy falls in love with her to the point where heâs willing to sacrifice his life for her. Nettles singlehandedly disproves the whole idea of Targaryen exceptionalism and their blood purity. She slowly earns a dragonâs trust by bringing him sheep, and gradually he lets her closer, and then forms the dragonrider bond and lets her fly. up until this point, nobody had tried a strategy like that before.
Nettles is self-made. Sheâs self-taught. Sheâs loved for herself. She survives a freaking war and becomes a fire goddess/witch. Who wouldnât want her ? Who wouldnât want to be her ? Unlike Rhaenyra and Alicent, sheâs the final girl of F&B.
Once again, I don't understand where you got that I'm anti Nettles? I'm anti Nettles x Daemon, but other than that theory, I very much am a fan of Nettles as a character. I won't say that there isn't racism and unfairness that happen regarding Nettles' character (though I haven't seen it personally), because people can be really shitty. But me personally, again, I'm not anti Nettles, I just dislike certain groups of her stans.
Again, I don't deny that Nettles was a strong woman. She endured many things most characters in F&B don't and most likely survived the Dance. However, I do disagree with some of the ideas you're stating as fact.
For starters, we don't know if Nettles is non-Valyrian; that's one of the many theories surrounding her, but it's not confirmed, so stating it as fact is misleading. Just because she lacks traditional Valyrian features doesn't means she isn't a dragonseed.
Jace and his brothers don't look Valyrian but they very obviously are of Valyrian descent. Rhaenys, the queen who never was, had black hair; Duncan the son of Aegon V looked like his mother, Betha Blackwood; Aegor Rivers also had black hair; Baelor Breakspear had dark hair; Daeron son of Maekar had sandy brown hair; Rhaenys the daughter of Rhaegar had her mother, Elia Martell's features.
Moving on, Daemon's relationship with Nettles is ambiguous. We don't know if they were in a romantic relationship or if his attack on Aemond was purely to save her (though I'm sure that was part of his decision). Again, you are stating a theory you believe as fact, even though it's unconfirmed.
I'm not going to touch the whole thing of Targaryen exceptionalism, because, as I said earlier, Nettles' parentage is unconfirmed. But the whole blood purity thing still hasn't been disproven at any point of GRRM's works; they intermarried to preserve their magic blood, the magic blood still exists in ASOIAF due to the incest.
Nettles is an important character in the story of the Dance, but she isn't the "final girl" you claim she is, let alone of the whole book. There are several dragon riders who survived the Dance and thrived. Rhaena is the ancestor of the Tyrells in the main series. Aegon III is the ancestor of Daenerys, the Baratheons, any remaining Blackfyres, and possibly Jon Snow and Young Griff. Baela and Alyn are the ancestors of Aurane Waters and the Velaryons.
The book of F&B is so much more than the Dance of the Dragons. Saying that Nettles is the "final girl" of the book doesn't make any sense when she only appears in a few sections. That's like saying Alys Rivers is actually the main character of the book. Nettles disappears after the Dance and doesn't appear in any other event. She does nothing else after her disappearance and has relatively little impact on the history of Westeros post Dance.
I have absolutely no idea where you're getting the whole "fire goddess/witch" thing. However, you have already been throwing out theories and your personal biases as fact, so I don't think it matters. I'm not trying to control who your fav is, I totally understand wanting to be a certain book character. But that doesn't mean you can act like everyone else is wrong for not having the same fav as you.
It's that kind of entitlement, thinking you're better than everyone else that makes people not like Nettles stans. It's almost on par with stansas and Alicent stans. People like you project so hard onto your favs, you take any perceived insult, critique, or argument as a personal attack. It's exhausting interacting with people like you.

Notes:Â Â Uff this is a dramatic one. I pulled a D&D on this one, I hope it makes sense....
âThey are stallingâ, Maekar, ever the patient young man, had grown out of it. Rhaegar neared you, whispering in your ear
âWe need to go find them, the Iron fleet is sailing towards Lannisport as we speakâ, he said urgently, and you realized he was as impatient as his brother had become.Â
âFuck the Lannistersâ, said Maekar
âNo!â, said Rhaegar, âwould you rather have an alliance with the Greyjoys? or with the Lannisters?â, he said, âThe Lannisters are treacherous, but at least they have money and resourcesâ, he said then
âSo we save the Lannisters?â, you say then, âwe burn the Greyjoys?â
âYesâ, he said, and you pondered, it actually wasnât such a bad idea, for what you wanted to accomplish, the help of the Lannisters could prove positive, you rather trust a Lannister than a Greyjoy, you could never trust a Ironborn, that is what everybody says.
You looked at the Green army camp bellow, scouts had revealed that they were no allies anywhere near you, but they did seemed like they were stalling, and now that you knew where your children where, you couldnât wait to go get them, and this was delaying you, iy had to end
âHow long has it been?â, you asked Cregan, he looked up to the position of the sun
â4 hoursâ, he answered, you only noddedÂ
âTime is upâ, you said finally, Cregan looked at you
âShould I prepare the men?â, he asked severely
âIt might not be necessaryâ, you whispered, but you whispered your plan in his ear, and both your sons as well
When the sixth hour came, you gathered Daeron, his uncle and everyone else in a tent, in the middle of the plain
âTime is upâ, you said firmly, âwe rather engage in a battle my three dragons and my northmen are going to win, or we save countless lives and you surrenderâ, but Daeron didnât speak, he seemed nervous, his uncle did
âHow do we know you are going to respect the pact?â, he asked then and you sighed
âIâm doneâ, you said, tired of their games, they were stalling, and you didnât know why, you stood up, and they seemed even more nervous
âWhat?â
âPrepare the menâ, you commanded, we march on the hour
âNO!â, said Daeron, and you stopped to look at him, âwaitâ, you only smiled walking towards the table and leaning over it
âIâm done waiting little brotherâ, you said, âI have more important things to attend, and you clearly donât take me seriouslyâ, now you saw true fear in his eyes, you only turned around and nodded, the your soldier that was guarding the door screamed at the top of his lungs
âNOW!â, their faces, the fear in them, was unmatched, your soldiers killed theirs, and riders posted outside grabbed the fabric that made up the small tends and ripped it away front he wooden structure, leaving you all inside under the sun, unprotected, Daeron in his uncle saw in terror how you were surrounded by NorthmenÂ
âYou are under my terms nowâ, northmen came inside and grabbed both men, âsurrender now or dieâ, you demandedÂ
And that is how you obtained their surrender, under your terms.
Under the watch of your three dragons, you decimated the Green army, one in ten men were put to the sword, (or rather, under your dragonâs flame), as an example for rebelling against the crown, you did not enjoy it, but right now, the only thing in your mind were your little children, and nothing and no one was going to get in your way.
You looked at the camp in deathly silence, you could still the banners flying with the soft breeze
The gray tower on a green field
We light the way
You chuckled
You felt the breeze hit your face and you felt oddly calmed, your nose had already been used to the smell of burnt flesh and ash.
You didnât want this
You turned around to meet Daeron, who was being held by two Northerner soldiers, and his uncle besides him, muffled and in chains
âSister!â, he called, trying to release himself from the grasp of the tall and strong soldiers
âYou must forgive meâ, you said, looking back at him, âI did not lie, I gave you a choiceâ, he couldnât refuse that, âBut I have no time to spare here, my children need me, I need to get them back, but now Iâm offering you a different choiceâ, you said, âsurrender to me, or I will deliver you to Rhaenyra, now, which will it be?
âBend the knee to Rhaenyra?â, asked Abelon
âNoâ, you said firmly, âto meâ
They both looked at each other, admitting defeat, and bent the knee again, in front of the rest of his men, to see.
âGoodâ, you muttered, âthe Green army will march home, and you Daeron, I have a special mission for youâ, you said seriously, and he only got to nod
Word of what it could be considered treason reached Kingâs Landing incredibly fastÂ
The Green army had surrendered, you had not slain them all, Daeron was still alive and on the loose, with his powerful dragon under his command, the army, if decimated, was still active and marching back home.
Scouts had spotted you flying West, were he, Daemon Targaryen, could guess, you were on your way to the children, and to attack the last remaining ally they still have, the Iron Fleet
You had betrayed them
You had to pay
âIt must be some sort of explanationâ, Rhaneyra claimed, looking outside the window
âShe discovered where we kept her childrenâ, he said, âand now she is going to get them, you better than anyone should know how she feelsâ, Rhaenyra looked back at him with warning in her eyes
âI do Knowâ, she said
âWe messed with her children, now she will mess with us backâ, he said, âAnd we canât have thatâÂ
âNo we canâtâ, she looked at the city beneath her squinting her eyes, she had to send soldiers, and gold cloaks to deal with an uprising of the small folks within the city, calling her a whore, calling for their King, or for her sister, the city could not holdÂ
âThey will take to her instead of you, you know thatâ, he said then
âSo what will you have me do?â, she asked then
âShe is your enemy, enemies must be destroyedâ, he said then with a warning on his tone
âShe has five dragons, not counting that bastard Aemondâs, and the NorthmenâŠâ
âbut right now, they are all separate from one anotherâ, he said, two of them are defending Harrenhal, unknown to what is happeningâ, he said
âYou want to go after Aemond?â, she asked
âWe take Harrenhal, her home, as she is distractedâ, Rhaenyra looked outside her window, wondering, thinking, ponderingâ
âWe wonât be able to win thisâ, she warned
âThis is the timeâ, he said then, âAemond tried to kill your eldest son, his brother murdered our youngest childrenâ, he said bitterly, he betrayed you, he has to dieâ
âshe will never forgive usâ, she said then
âShe is an enemyâ, he repeated, âi loved her, she is my niece, but she is getting in the way, she always wanted the crown, that is why she did all thisâ
âI donât thinkâŠâ
âYou kidnapped her childrenâ, he said then, âshe sided with Aemond, Daeron⊠the Greensâ
âShe defeated the Greensâ, she said, âher son took the treasury backâ
âWhere is it?â, he asked then
âWhat?â
âWhere is it, it isnât here yet isnât it?â, he asked, âwhere is the treasuryâ
âOn its way!â
âTo Harrenhal perhapsâ, he mocked, Rhaenyra shook her head,
âWhat will you do?â, she asked then, relenting to her husbandâs dark plans
âI will teach her a lessonâ, he murmured, âI will get her out of your wayâ
âGive her a messageâ, she commanded, âa hard and clear messageâ, Daemon nodded.Â
Without you on the way, she could finally have what she always wanted
So she let her husband, Daemon Targaryen, get lost in the night, on the way to the dragonpit, where his fearsome dragon Caraxes awaited.Â
You just had to follow the Gold Road West, that took you straight to Lannisport, you flew all night, and right when the sun was showing its golden face again, at your back, you Got to see The Rock from afar, signaling you were close, you were close to see your children again, to hold them in your arms, to make sure they were alrightÂ
But that is far from what you foundâŠ
A whole naval battle was ensuing, black ships, with the red kraken banner were being attacked by a few reddened vessels with golden Lions, also, you recognized some of the triarchy war ships, all fighting each other in a gruesome battle.
You couldnât believe your eyes
You saw your daughterâs dragon, throwing fire at some ships, but she was too small, and frightened by the spears and nets being thrown at her.
Your children
Where are your children?
You shared concerned looks with both your sons, who were as frightened as you.Â
Where to begin? in which ship were they?
You were forced to land by the shore, to talk about strategy on how to proceedÂ
âThey are in the flagship, clearlyâ, said Rhaegar
âWhat if they are not??â, you asked, âwhat if we burned the wrong one?â, but when you looked back at the sea, you saw the biggest ship in the greyjoyâs armada to face two warships of the Triarchy, got trapped in between them and they began to shot at it with scorpions, and everything they had
âNO!â you screamed, as you watched the boat sink in the waters
âMotherâ, called Maekar, but it was too late, you saw your children sink in front of your eyes
You only breathed heavily, as you felt everything around collapse, your eyesight tunneling, only a long beep as a sound, from ear to ear, numbing every other sound, as you saw the flagship sink, you only gasped. Without even turning to look at your children you walked calmly to Vhaelar, who was waiting for you, for your command, your sons quickly followed you, and you commanded the White Demon to descend upon the conflict.
âDRACARYS!â, you screamed, and with a low growl Haelar released her firepower in the heads of everyone in the armada below, triarchy, Lannister, Greyjoy, everybody burned.Â
Your sons quickly followed.
The white dragon with silver scales, Vhaelar. the dark Blue one, Aerion, with silver marking, and Karnax as white as his mother, with golden marking, they flew in circles and all around the naval conflict, burning everything they couldÂ
And then, you looked down, at the waters, near the rests of the Greyjoyâs ship, and you saw it, a small boat, you recognized your children, Sarra, floating amongst the disaster in a small rescue boat.
But you didnât stop.Â
You destroyed every enemy, because they all where, from around them, protecting them from attacks, Rhaegar saw them as well, and he guarded them ashore, you didnât rest until every vessel had been sanked in the bottom of the Sunset sea
When it was done, you finally let Vhaelar rest, as you landed on the shore, Rhaegar was already there, Maekar soon joined you. You saw your children, few yards from you, and you ran by the beach to get to them, and once you had them within reach, you hugged them tightly against you, both of them
âmy babies!â, you cried, relieved tears falling from your eyes, when you believed you had lost them forever.
âMamma!â, cried Saera, and Vaegor just silently clinged into your clothes
Rhaegar held Sarra in his arms, kissing the top of her hair and temple repeatedly
âYou are alright?â, he asked quietly, she only nodded, âplease tell meâ
âYou came for meâ, she said, relieved
âYou saved yourself, I saw you rowing that small boatâ, he teased gently, she giggled
âI did it because you knew youâd had come for me, for usâ
âYou took care of my baby sibling, my beautiful girlâ, he said, cradling her face in his hands and looking at her with love in his eyes
âWell, I did promisedâ, she said, with rosy cheeks
âMy winter rose, as soon as we get to the next town, we will marryâ, she only giggled, nodding enthusiasticallyÂ
âMaekar looked pleased, not knowing what to do, but as soon as he got too, he hugged his siblings.
Vhaelar purred at her dragonling, smelling at her and nudging her softly with her snout, happy to be with the smallest of her babies, and missing the one she lost.Â
Aemma held Aemondâs hands
âBe quick alright?â, she asked gently, her eyes gleaming in the torches illuminating the hall that led to the entrance of the castle
âI willâ, he promised, leaning in to kiss her one more time before he took flight
They both took turns to scout the skies and the proximities of the castle, roads and all, to make sure they were safe, now it was Aemondâs turn, as silverwing was quick in the skies, best for flights in the night
âI love youâ, she promised, with excitement in her voice
âI love you too, my silver dragonâ, he whispered
âCome back soon, the bed gets cold without you in itâ, she said cheekily, he only smiled, and turned her back to her to get to Silverwing, who was ready to take flight.
It still weird for Aemond to walk towards a dragon that isnât Vhagar, but Silverwing was a great mount, she was quick in her flight, and lean and smart, fast in her movementsÂ
But she took to him quickly, she recognized a true Targaryen when she saw one.Â
So Aemond took to the skies in Silverwing, not knowing what awaited him in the dark clouds.Â

I would to like hear more about the Maekar x Reader I think that would be the first time i read a Ghiscari reader or similiar
Yeah, not gonna lie, i was surprised with the idea myself
So here a few headcannons from that
Âż?
After getting taken away from her home, the reader was kept inside of the Red Keep, but she is not locked, she can walk around, but she didn't have much company other than Maekar himself and his sons due to the fact that they are some of the few people who can understand her.
Aemon and Aegon are the ones who she mostly likes to be around with, they have been trying to teach her the common tongue, but they stopped after a while...
Maekar enjoys the idea of her not understanding the common tongue because it restricts her from taking with other men outside of his family
But he forgot about his other son...Aerion
Aerion sometimes tries to torment my girl, luckily for her, his brothers always tend to appear whenever he tries.
Daeron is too drunk to do anything sadly đ
During her pregnancy, Maekar tried everything to convince her to give the children a typical Valyrian name, she refused

How much Targaryen blood is there really
So⊠Iâve been seeing some post come around about the Hightower Targaryens being less Targaryen than Rheanyraâs children. And this is not some post about how wrong someone is, or who is more or less. It just got my curious about how much % Targ is there still in the blood line to begin with. And I am sure there are far more precise ways to do this butâŠ
Quick conclusion explanation below.
Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey have the same percentage of Targaryen blood as Aegon II, Halaena, Aemond and Daeron. Which is 28.57%.
Daenerys has 26.08% Targaryen blood left. Jon has 25%. Shireen and Roberts bastards have 23.08%.
How much Targaryen blood is needed to bond with dragons? Cause it's not much apparently. Would shireen be able to bond with a dragon if given the chance?
Explanation:
If you take that Aenar is 100% Targ
Than his children Gaemon and Daenys are aswell, (disregarding that their mother might not have been Targ blood)
Which makes Aegon and Elaena also 100% T (they also have another unnamed sibling who we know marries âsomeâ lord)
Their children Maegon and Aenys are also still 100% T. Aenys however marries an unnamed/unknow lady, so after that, technically, it is no longer 100% T.
 T x ? = T?
So now it is 50% Targ for Aelys, Baelon and Daemion. Daemion (T?) also marries some unnamed/unknown lady.(?)
T? x ? = T??
We know that the Targ genes are strongest, more dominant,. So we continue with lets says still 33% Targ Blood.
Aerion (T??) marries Valaena(TV), who has a Targ decendend mother(T) and Velaryon Father(V).
T?? x TV = TTV??
Now it becomes trickier. The blood is now divided by  3 (technicly 4, but meh) different blood lines. 2x Targ blood, 2x unknown blood and 1x Velaryon blood. So 40% Targ, 40% ?, and 20% Velaryon. Is the blood of Aegon the Conqueror and his sister wives. Meaning that bood Meagor and Aenys are also 40% Targaryen blood.
Aenys (TTV??) marries Alyssa Velaryon (She has some massey blood, but weâre disregarding it.) (V).
TTV?? x V = TTVV??
So now we have 33 % of Targ, Velaryon and ? Blood. For Jaeharys and Alyssane. And therefor als 33% for their children. Aemon marries Jocelyn (if we say that Orys is also 40% Targ, 60% ?, and he marries Durrandon (B-blood)
Jocelyn: TT??? x B = TTB???
Makes Jocelyn also has 33% Targ blood. And 16,67 % Durrandon/Baretheon Blood.
Their children would be:
TTVV?? x TTB??? = TTTTVVB????? = T4V2B1?5
Making Rheanys still 33% Targaryen, 16,67% Velaryon, 8,33% Baretheon, and 41,67% a mix of different unknow blood sources.
Viserys and Deamon would still be TTVV??, so still 33% Targaryen.
Aemma is TTVV?? + A: 28,57% Targaryen blood. 28,57% Velaryon Blood, 14,3% Arryn Blood, and 28,57% mix.
Making Rhaenyra:
TTVV?? x TTVVA?? = T4V4A1?4
30,77% Targaryen, 30,77% Velaryon, 7,7% Arryn, and 30,77% mix.
The Hightower children are TTVV?? + H, making them: (same as Aemma) 28,57% Targaryen, 28,57% Velaryon, 14,3% Hightower, 28,57% mix.
Now Rhaenyra her children are: T4V4A1?4 + S : 7,14% Arryn, 7,14% Strong, 28,57% Targaryen, 28,57% Velaryon, and 28,57% mix.
So when it comes down to it, Jacaerys and Aegon II are exactly the same amount of Targaryen. So the argument about someone being more or less Targaryen is completly inrelevant.
Now if we look at Aegon III, we have Rhaenyra (T4V4A1?4) + Daemon (TTVV??)
Aegon III & Viserys II
T4V4A1?4 x TTVV?? = T6V6A1?6
Making them 31,58 % Targaryen, Velaryon and mix, and 5,26% Arryn.
I will skip Aegon III children because their line ends and goes back to Viserys II. Viserys II marries Larra Rogore (R). Making their children: T6V6A1R1?6, and therefor 30% Targ, Vela, mix and 5% Arryn and Rogore.
Aegon IV marries his sister Naerys so their blood stays the same, Daeron II is therefor still 30% Targ. His children however will also have Martell blood. T6V6A1R1M1?6, making them 28,57% Targ, Vela, and mix, aswell as 4,76% Arryn, Rogore and Martell.
We then move on to Maekar, who marries Dyanna Dayne. T6V6A1R1M1D1?6, making Aegon V, 27,27% Targ, Vela, mix, and 4,55% Arryn, Rogore, Martell and Dayne. Aegon V marries Bertha Blackwood (W)
T6V6A1R1M1D1W1?6, making Jaehaerys II, 26,08% Targ, Vela and unknown mix with 4,35% Arryn, Rogore, Martell, Dayne and Blackwood.
Jaehaerys marries his sister, so Aerys II stays 26,08% Targ, Aerys marries his sister, so Rhaegar, Viserys and Danaerys are all 26,08% Targaryen, 26,08% Velaryon, 4,35% Arryn, 4,35% Rogore, 4,35% Martell, 4,35% Dayne, 4,35% Blackwood and 26,08% unknown mix. (I know this adds up to 99,99%, but that has to do with me not using all the numbers after the comma.)
Rhaegar his children by Elia Martell are T6V6A1R1M2D1W1?6, 4,17% Arryn, Rogore, Dayne, Blackwood, 8,33% Martell and 25% Targaryen, Velaryon and unknown mix.
And Jon snow would be the same, only then 4,17% Arryn, Rogore, Dayne, Blackwood, Martell and Stark, with 25% Targaryen, Velaryon, and unknown mix.
This has now made me question how much Targaryen blood is really necessary for dragon bonding. 25% seems to still be enough, so does that mean that there might be other people who might be able to do it.
Jaehaerys II has a sister who marries a Baratheon. So T6V6A1R1M1D1W1?6 + B (they started with Targ blood, but have not married into it for many generations so there is no way of knowing how much there is left. But no matter)
T6V6A1R1M1D1W1B1?6, 25% Targblood for Steffon, he marries and Evermont.
T6V6A1R1M1D1W1B1E1?6, 24% Targblood for Robbert, Stannis and Renly. Robert his children would be 23,08% Targblood, and same would be for Shireen. So would Shireen or any of Robertâs bastard be able to bond with a dragon if given the change? And when is there too little blood for a dragon to recognize it?

Targaryen #15
Word Count: 1,336
Warning: None - some making out i guess lol
A/N: Ah Maekar. He was actually the first Targaryen I ever cared out writing for (in old works that are awfully written lol) and it was Maekar x oc that made me come up with the idea for Aegon I Targaryen x Stark!Reader. This one shot was actually a little difficult to write, sadly. It just felt like it took quite longer than others to get some idea for his characterization. I hope you all enjoy it never the less!
Catching Maekar off guard hadn't been your intention when you went looking for him. You had only wanted him to finally come to bed after the both of you had had a very long day of council meetings.
Knowing exactly where he was - and having finished your nightly routine without an appearance from him - you made your way from your bedchambers to the Kingâs study.Â
The candle on his desk had burnt so low it was nearly out, and your husband had his back to the door, staring out the large window at the city below. His arms were tucked behind his back and he was standing tall; he was the very imagine of a King.
Taking a brief moment to admire the muscles of his back, you advanced further into the room. It was as you wrapped your arms around him and whispered his name that he jumped - caught off guard by your sudden appearance.Â
âY/n,â Maekar cursed, turning to glare down at you with harsh purple eyes
You were only surprised by his surprise for half a second before bursting into laughter. You couldnât believe that your stern and grumpy husband had been so lost in thought that he would let his guard down. And to let it down enough for you to scare him, even for a moment.
Calming down some, you placed your hands to his chest and purred, âOh, did I scare you, Big Boy?â
The glare Maekar threw you nearly sent you into another wave of laughter.
âCome on, Love, donât be like that.â you murmured pressing your lips to his jaw, âDonât be upset with me. Iâm only teasing.â
The youngest son of Daeron the Good had never smiled or laughed easily. He was too stoic and hardened by life for that.
âI am busy, wife. What did you need?â he grumbled, turning away and moving to take a seat at his desk.Â
Pouting at him for not being a poor sport, you followed after him while saying, âFor my husband to come to bed.â the two of you had been married for so many years. You had gotten too used to having him beside you to have an easy time sleeping alone.Â
When he didn't respond, you sat yourself on the side of the desk and reached out to grab his chin forcing him to look at you. âYour Grace,â you murmured, âI understand that you have a lot of work to do. And its very important to the realm. But you need to rest.â
Your husband grabbed your wrist, but did nothing to remove it from his face. Instead, his thumb slowly rubbed circles into your skin. âWhat did I do to deserve such a frustrating wife?â Maekar growled as he stood and moved his hand from your wrist to the side of your neck.Â
âI could ask the same thing about you.â you pointed out with a smirk.
âFrustrating and mouthy.â His lips slammed into yours, molding immediately with your own as you gladly returned the kiss.
Your marriage often lacked conversation, neither one of you good with words, but when it came to physical touch, neither of you were of short reply. Maekar, being a warrior, knew how to use his strong, tall build to say what he verbally couldnât. And you had adapted your own language to match his not long into your betrothal.
The kiss was rough, and many would say that Maekar appeared angry, but you knew him better than anyone else. And you knew it was just his way. He could never be called a gentle lover, but he was still attentive and sweet in his own way.
âYouâve never complained before.â you whispered against his lips, your arms circling his neck and your legs moving to wrap around his hips.Â
A deep chuckle came from Maekar, his hands moving to grip your back and hold you to him, âI have complained. You just never listen.â
And you laughed because he was right.Â
But only because you knew even with Maekar being the King of the Seven Kingdoms that you could get away with mouthing off and ignoring his commands. Over the course of your marriage, you had shown to be a loyal and faithful wife and when it came to truly important matters the two of you had always been a well oiled team, always supporting the other even if the rest of the world did not.
âIf I did listen, you would never sleep and would put yourself into an early grave.â you murmured, placing a brief kiss to his cheek âAnd the realm could not handle that. Weâve already lost so much.â
His father, his mother, his elder three brothers, his nephews, his niece, two sonsâŠ
Your heart ached at the thought and tears pricked in your eyes at all your family had lost in such a short amount of time.
âIâm not going to die in my office.â Maekar reassured you, his thumbs brushing away any stray tears from your cheeks, âIâm a soldier. Iâll die a soldier in the field fighting to protect you and our remaining children.â
That only made your heart hurt more.
The thought of him dying alone without you there at his side to reassure him that you and the children would be alright...it made you tear up all over again.
âY/n,â Maekar sighed pulling you against him, his hand on the back of your head as you tucked your face into his neck, âIâll have none of that.â He hated to see you cry. He used to get angry and rant, but now he watched you with a well hidden look of pain and worry.
âI..I canât lose you too, Maekar.â you sobbed softly with a harsh shake of your head, âI..I justâŠ.Baelor, Valaar, Matarys, Aerys, Rhaegel Aerion, Daeron, your parents...the twins...I justâŠ.itâs all too much to bear for one family.â
Your husband didnât say anything in return, but you knew he felt the same pain. For Baelor, he felt even more so for it had been Maekar who had dealt the blow that caused the accidental death of the then Prince of Dragonstone.
You werenât sure how long you stayed there, wrapped in his arms and crying into his shoulder, but eventually Maekar picked you up and carried you through the keep back to the Kingâs bed chambers. His Kingsguard said nothing, all of them looking away out of respect for their Queen who was having a moment of weakness.
You knew when you woke up the next morning you would feel so embarrassed by your emotional outburst; you had never been one for such things. But at that moment you didnât care.
Maekar laid you in bed and stripped out of his clothes before joining you, his arms wrapping tightly around you as you continued to cry softly into his chest.
âWe all die eventually,â Maekar spoke into the darkness, âYou will outlive me. I demand it. And you will continue to rein in our fiercely independent and stubborn children. You will watch over the next King and lend him your ear and words as you have lent them to me.â his fingers brushed through your hair just as his lips pressed into your forehead.
âI wonât be long for this world with you gone from it.â you murmured, glancing up at him
Your souls had been bound together with time, love, and understanding. You refused to be parted from him for too long.
He sighed, âYou will set our children on their paths, and then you may join me in...whatever comes after this lifeâ he conceded after a moment, seemingly choosing to not argue with your stubbornness any further.
Nodding, you placed a tired kiss to his lips, âThat sounds like a compromise I can live with.â
After all, what was a little bit of pain from missing him when you would spend eternity with him in the beyond?

[14/20] ASOIAF power couples â Maekar I Targaryen x Dyanna Dayne
The last of King Daeronâs sons was the second to wed, to Lady Dyanna Dayne, niece of the famed Ser Ulrick, the Sword of the Morning. This came as a surprise to most, as the groom was just sixteen, his bride scarcely a year older â and Dornish besides. King Daeron offered little in the way of explanation, but young maidens at court insisted it was the dour prince and gregarious Dyanna themselves who requested the match, for they were rarely seen far apart. Whatever the cause, so it was that in 190 AC, the two were married.
A warrior of note, Maekarâs greatest distinction came during the First Blackfyre Rebellion at the Battle of the Redgrass Field. The battle was a bloody affair that saw many to their deaths, including Daemon Blackfyre himself and his two eldest sons, and only came to an end when Baelor Breakspear appeared with a host of stormlords and Dornishmen, falling on the rebel rear, while the young Prince Maekar rallied what remained of Lord Arrynâs van and made an implacable anvil against which the rebels were hammered and destroyed.
For his valor, Prince Maekar was awarded the seat of Summerhall. By Lady Dyannaâs hand, Summerhall remained true to its name, less a fortress than a palace filled with music, art, and gardens. During their seventeen years of marriage, Dyanna bore Maekar four sons and two daughters before succumbing to a short and sudden illness some years after the birth of Princess Rhae. Several ladies were henceforth put forward as suitors, for the prince was yet young, but he accepted none. Already a stern man, it is said that what smiles he had died with Dyanna, and that he grew sterner still after the mishap that claimed the life of his brother, Prince Baelor.
Maekar later gained further renown on the battlefield with his leadership in the Third Blackfyre Rebellion, alongside the courage of his youngest son, Aegon. Rising to the throne in 221 AC, Maekar proved to be an energetic king whose twelve-year reign was one of relative peace. He ultimately fell in battle at the age of nine-and-fifty while leading his army against the rebellious Lord Peake on the Dornish Marches.

There's something about maekar naming most of his children after other targs while baelor gave his own names free of any burden. something something maekar wanting glory and recognition through them something something baelor gifting autonomy to his sons under his own legacy. And in valarr's case it's interesting because he's free of an overbearing father like maekar but being baelor's son is such a heavy weight too. he's a mediocre knight, he wont be dunk's champion..... maekar saying when there's a drought and valarr's king, the smallfolk will wish for baelor and blame him.
Of course, this IS maekar projecting (fork spotted in kitchen etc) but it'd be true if valarr had ever become king. how noble baelor was, how honorable, how brave, how good. and these would be enough for someone to resent him (maekar!) but valarr kept participating in tourneys to try and become his father. and when I think about baelor just accepting nothing is ever going to change, accepting maekar's unfair stubbornness and valarr's indifference I want to screammm. he must be the good he wants to see in the world. and he dies.

If the Dance of the Dragons is the Anarchy and the Baratheons are the Yorksh usurpation, did George RR Martin skip over the Lancastrian usurpation or was it Viserys II and Aegon IV succeeding the children of Aegon III? Also if you could rewrite the history to add it, would it be with the grandsons of Daeron II like Aerion Brighflame (Richard II) and Egg (Henry Iv) as cousins instead of brothers?
I probably sound like a broken record on this at this point, but nothing in ASOIAF is ever 1-1 with its historical (or what GRRM believes is historical) inspiration. Just as the Dance might have shades of the Anarchy while not actually being particularly accurate to the real-world Anarchy, so the Lancastrian takeover of the English throne is not specifically recreated in any one incident in ASOIAF but has certain echoes in different plotlines. For example, for a tyrannical king dispossessing a powerful cousin aristocrat, only to have that cousin lead a rebellion against him (which initially presented itself as an assertion of that aristocrat's rights, with the aristocrat then declaring himself king), see Aerys II and Robert Baratheon. For a male of a royal male line succeeding ahead of a more senior cousin (but whose royal descent came through a woman), see Viserys I and Laenor Velaryon. I wouldn't want to see the story recreate with absolute fidelity every single development of medieval English royal history, because at that point I might as well just read a real history book; I leave it to the author to take certain inspirations from history (or, again, what he thinks of as historical accuracy) while remixing them, adding his own creative flair and letting his natural talent for storytelling lead the way.
(I'm less convinced about any parallels with the succession of Viserys II, if only because neither Daena nor her sisters were ever formally acclaimed queens in their own right and had "few" supporters and allies calling for such. I'd be more willing to believe that if and when F&B Volume 2 gets into the question, it will involve the soon-to-be Viserys II playing the part of Maurice Druon's Philip of Poitiers - more on him below - who in Druon's depiction invented the Salic law to exclude women from the throne of France (although Viserys will benefit from having the in-world precedent of the Great Council of 101 AC and the post facto precedent of the Dance).)
As far as Daeron's grandsons go, I think the story works fine the way it is. Specifically, I'm very much convinced that GRRM is using the sons of Maekar - specifically, Daeron, Aerion, and Egg - to parallel Druon's depiction of the elder two sons of Philip the Fair, Louis X and the aforementioned Philip (eventually Philip V). In Daeron and Aerion, GRRM distributes some of the characteristics of Louis X: Daeron gets Louis' overall schlubby-ness, his lack of prepossessing physical features, and his daughter of uncertain dynastic prospects (with GRRM adding to the issue of female succession by replacing the question of Louis' daughter's legitimacy with Vaella's "simpleness"); Aerion gets Louis' tendency to cruelty (although Louis isn't as consistently violently sadistic as Aerion, he does torture and drown those servants he suspects as having been involved in his wife's extramarital affair, indirectly orders the murder of his wife, and often loses his temper) as well as his infant son (though Aerion at least lived long enough to see Maegor born, while Louis' son was posthumous). In Aegon, GRRM repeats Druon's obvious favoritism toward Philip V: Egg, like Philip, is the intelligent, thoughtful, good king who nevertheless dies "a lonely man ... misunderstood by his subjects" because they will not cooperate with his forward-thinking reforms. (This is why I also suspect that baby Maegor might die of natural causes but that Egg will be blamed, as a sort of twist on The Accursed King's plot where Philip indirectly orders and directly benefits from the murder of the infant King Jean and in due course becomes king himself.)

So... Targaryen traits are dominant or not? Because when a Targ woman married a non-Targ man the firstborn will be always look like the father and then the rest of the children will have a Targ look. The same thing happens if a Targ man married a non-Targ woman: the firstbornâs traits will be the ones of the non-Targ parent. What do you think about the genetics in House Targaryen?â€ïžđ€
Well Targ genes tend to be recessive when it comes to the firstborn in most Targ x Non-Targ pairings but later children seem to inherit Targ traits. The first instance was obviously Aemon xJocelyn (dark-haired) = Rhaenys (dark-haired) but then Daella married Rodrick Arryn and their daughter Aemma was presumably Targ featured. And Alicent's children were all silver-haired/purple-eyed (she clearly didn't top Viserys... or anything else for that matter lmao). Rhaena of Pentos married Garmund Hightower and had 6 daughters, I'm ready to bet that's where House Hightower got its silver-haired streak from. Other instances include Aegon IV x Barba = Aegor, Daeron II x Myriah = Baelor, Maekar x Dyanna = Daeron, Egg x Betha = Duncan, Rhaegar x Elia = Rhaenys, Rhaegar x Lyanna = Jon. I'm sure someone has a proper genetically analytical post on this but I stand by my theory here lol.

Notes: Sorry I took so long, I was in the country AND I was in a complete block, but Iâm back on track because my mind started working in cool scenes and even more battles! haha anyways wish me luck!
Aemond saw Daeron fly away from his room in Highgarden
âPerhaps I should have killed him, stopped him, slay his dragon or somethingâŠâ, he said, with his hands he fixed his patch over his head. Aemma hugged him by his back, her chest against his back, âbut I couldnâtâŠâ
âHe is your brother! you are not a Kinslayer Aemond!â, Aemma said with a smile, her hand finding his chest, to caress him, âI married a good manâ. Aemond just smiled, and hugged Aemmaâs armsÂ
âAnd I married the most amazing womanâ, he said.
The young couple didnât want to but they had to⊠they reluctantly left Highgarden, with the support of the Tyrells, but they abandoned their safe haven, and left to plunge themselves into war, decided to fly towards Harrenhal.
They knew what they had to do, but they couldnât put words in it, even if they talked about leaving Westeros, while the war was raging, they agree, or at least Aemma, that she would not be able to forgive herself if something happened to her family and she wasnât there to stop it, and Aemond couldnât conceive letting her stay alone, and leave Helaena and his nephews, even though they had Maekar protecting them. He had to lead the downfall of his family, he had to be there. And his mother⊠Even though she helped to crown Aegon, he believed she wasnât all that guilty, a life in lockdown or perhaps delivering herself to the silent sisters would be a better choice than losing her headâŠÂ
They were going to Harrenhal to join the war.
They were going to take the city
And Aemond hoped that the next head to wear the crown was going to be the princess, and not Rhaenyra.
Aemond did not want Rhaenyra in the throne.
He did not trust her
He did not respect her.
Aemond hugged Aemma when they were ready to mount their dragons
âFly with meâ, he whispered, embracing his little wife, she giggled in his embrace, seeing a side of Aemond she had never seen before.Â
âVermithor is not going to like thatâ, she said back, with a wide smile, and they both watched their dragons coiled together, their snouts rubbing against one another. Both purringÂ
They were mates, they loved each other, just like their riders
Aemond kissed her deeply
âI understandâ, he whispered, âI just want to take care of you
âI know my sweet husbandâ, she whispered
âSafe flight my loveâ, he smiledÂ
âSame, my heartâ, she whisperedÂ
They both took to the skies, it was early in the morning, and it was going to take all day to reach their destination. They flew together, just by each other's side, their dragons underneath them playing and gliding in the air.Â
They shared looks once in a while, and Aemma thought hoe beautiful silverwing was, in contrast to the monstrous Vhagar. Who had perished underneath Vhaelarâs claws and jaws, Aemma could not believe it when she heard the tale, gladly Aemond was alright.
They both flied together, arriving at Harrenhal at sunset, both tired but happy, and you were waiting for them right outside the castle walls
Relief washed over you when you saw your child, unharmed, jumping off her huge dragon, she ran towards you and you hugged her tightly against your chest, your love, your child, your little girl, was a woman grown
âAemmaâ, you whispered in her ear
âMamma, I thought you were gone!â, she said, relieved
âThey will have to try harder than that to get rid of meâ, you whispered. And as you embraced your child in your arms,Â
Harwin, at the same time, eyed Aemond with a frown
âHarwinâ, he greeted, putting his hands behind his back
âBoyâ, he answered back, with a raised eyebrow
âIâm glad you are alrightâŠ.â, he said cautiously
âYou married my daughterâ, he cut in, with seriousness tightening his voice. Aemond looked surprised for a second, but then he regained his composure again, âwithout our sayingâ. If looks could kill, Aemond would be dead, he swallowed, hard, he wasnât intimidated by Harwin, but he certainly didnât want to have problems with his beloved wifeâs father.Â
âLook, Harwin, Aemma and I love each other, and we are not going to let anything or anyone get in our way, if it serves you, I will respect her, love her, cherish her and protect her with my lifeâŠ. â, as Aemond was explaining to Harwin, he laughed
âThat is quite alright, boy, we raised Aemma to be strong and independent, and she chose you, donât take it personallyâ, laughed Harwin, âWhen my daughter gives you the honor of turning you into a father, specially, the father to a girl, youâll realize no man alive could live up to your expectations, only a perfect man, the warrior incarnated, and perhaps not even him, would be enough for your little girlâ
Aemond just looked at him wide eyedÂ
âBut she chose youâ, he ended with a smile. Aemond smiled back, âwelcome to our familyâ
âWelcome!â, shouted Rhaegar, running to grab Aemma, and she shrieked as he picked her up in his arms and twirled her around. She giggled, embracing her brother
âI miss you little girl!â, he said
âI missed you too!â, Maekar joined, and together alongside his twin, tackled Aemond to the floor, he tried to fight them, but it didnât work
âWelcome to our family you prick!â
They exchanged warmed spirited insults
âMarrying our sister without our permission you cunt!â as they pinned him into the ground
âRhaegar!â, you chided. but couldnât help but chuckled
âOur little sister married before us!â, said Maekar rising from the ground with Rhaegar by his side. âHow embarrassingâ
âYes, I agreeâ, laughed Rhaegar, as Maekar hugged Aemma tightly.
You made him go inside your home, before it got late.
We had dinner together, only the two youngest missing. your children were safe, Maekar and Helaena and her children, Rhaegar and Aemma, with Aemond, Harwin, Cregan and the Tullys, all dining together, in harmony, trading stories of battles and war, and all planning for the futureâŠÂ
Everything was well
Until that letter arrived
It was from Winterfell, the maester of Harrenhal handed it to Cregan at once, unopened.Â
The Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the north walked away with the letter in his hands, opened the scroll and read it carefully. The entire table seemed to stop their movements, watching the Lord of Winterfell read the letter.
The entire aura in the room changed, it turned somber, it turned dark.
And when Cregan Stark turned and looked at you with his gray eyes opened.Â
âI donât want you to panicâ, and your entire world stopped spinning
âWhat happened?â, you asked slowly.Â
As Steffon Mangold watched the shore from the deck of the treasure ship, he wondered on what to do next. He had done what he said, he was guarding the treasure, but now he needed to move.Â
He couldnât float around hoping for the best, someone, the blacks, or the greens were going to find him eventually, but sailing all the way around the continent towards Kingâs Landing, or Dragonstone, he might get attacked, he couldnât lose the treasury. He couldn't take that risk, that huge risk, and he didnât even know who he could trust. Yes the Dornish were their allies, but really, with that much amount of gold in the middle⊠alliances could break like a twig.
He sometimes een wondered if he truly could trust in the Tyrells, so far, they had proven to be trustworthy, they kept to their word, they were the garden of the continent.Â
The Tyrells actually offered to take the treasure by land, escorted by a small army. That was the smart thing to do, the only thing to do, Even if traveling on ship was faster, marching could be safer. Â
But as he looked North he realized something as well.
There was another part of the treasury that needed to be rescued, to be recuperated from the hands of the enemy. Those Lannister cunts had taken it allÂ
It was in Casterly Rock, he knew, it had to be. It was arguably the safest place in Westeros, and Tyland was the master of Coin, it made sense, it was what Helaena had told them as well. The Rock was so thick and tall even dragons could have trouble taking it. they couldnât burn it even if they tried. The castle was embedded in the rock.Â
He had to get it back, recuperate it somehow
With it in the power of the Greens they could use it to hire sellswords, buy ships, the war could be only beginning, it could go on as long as you could buy a sword to be wielded by your enemies.Â
But Casterly RockâŠ
it was unbreachable. It was the castle in the highest mountain in Westeros
It was impossible!
And then he smiled even wider
He had to do it
âI will accept your kind offer, you will take the treasure to Harrenhalâ, he commanded, âI will send word to them to send someone to protect it, they are dragons there, they could guard it better than anyoneâ
âWhat are you going to do?â, asked the commander of the Tyrell forces, looking at him with a raised eyebrow
âSome climbingâ, he muttered, looking straight at him. both men laughed
âIf you are doing what I think you are doing, you are crazy, Mangoldâ
âI agreeâ, he laughed
âWhen you are in Lannisport, go fetch a man, works selling fish on the docs, his name is Mitchar Kell, he will help you fuck the Lannisters however he can, he knows everything and everyone in Casterly Rock
Steffon nodded, shaking his hand
âGood, Iâm going to need someone like thatâ
âYou better hurry boyâ
Steffon stayed with them, watching how they disembarked the treasury, coffer by coffer, and gathered a great garrison of Tyrell soldiers in Old Oak, from where he also sent a raven towards Harrenhal, asking for support.Â
From Old Oak, it was a long way to Casterly Rock, but traveling alone was better, he would attract less attention, and he could gather more information
His golden armor made him look like a beacon in the middle of the night but no matter, he hid it under a thick cloak. Nobody knew who he was, or at least that is what he hoped, nobody was going to recognize him without his white armor.Â
Even though the war had not hit this part of the huge continent, it could be felt in the air, stores in Old Oak were closed, people were rationing their food, and mostly kept to themselves, wooden covered windows, and looked suspiciously at visitors such as him.Â
So he bought a horse in town, and started his journey. He left Old Oak and away from prying eyes, he took the Searoad up north, and his next stop was going to be Crakehall.
The Crakehalls were vassals to the Lannisters, and that was going to turn dangerous. but if he kept to himself and didnât ask questions around, nothing was going to happen, he only needed an excuse when they asked him who he was and where he was traveling.Â
The Lannisters were humiliated, defeated, and that made them more dangerous. There was nothing more dangerous than a despised and humiliated House, especially one for the Lannisters, they were Lions, their sigil didnât really stand for nothing.Â
Perhaps Aemma should have burned them all, they were on their way home, ready to regroup and attack again. they owned a great part of the West, and his army was fueled with the gold of their mines. They could rise their weapons again, nothing could stop them but empty words from Tyland Fucking LannisterÂ
The Lannisters where one of the richest families in the country, there was no denying itÂ
And their enemies had captured Jason Lannister and they were going to get him back.
His mind was being haunted by all these dark thoughts, accompanying him on the road, and he arrived at Crakehall two days later. Even considering he rode night and day
The town was dark, but rich, like other towns in the West. And in it, he learned something awful. The army was marching back towards Casterly Rock, and he needed to get there before them
They were traveling slowly, because of their numbers, so he had the advantage of traveling alone, he was quicker, with that manpower he was never going into Casterly Rock, much less going out.Â
So he did what he needed in the town, gathered supplies, asked no questions, answered with lies and kept going.Â
He took four more days to reach Lannisport and from there, he could even see the huge and famous Casterly Rock
When the sun hit it when it was hiding over the sunset sea, the Rock glowed gold, it was truly breathtaking. The castle on top shone white, mighty towers clinging into the rock like they had been there for thousands of years.
âIâm gonna need some climbing spikesâ, he whispered looking up.
Vhaelar landed heavily on the snow, Winterfell just in front of you.Â
You jumped down from your dragon, Cregan had more trouble, but you couldnât care less as you walked hastily to the gates. Cregan had accompanied you, and it was the first time he flew on a dragon, Vhaelar haven't liked it, but she accepted it, and you didnât even where in the mood to enjoy Creganâs first flight, there were more important things ahead of you to stop to think in other things
From where you stood, outside the castle walls, it all looked like nothing had happened, but the letter had said otherwise. As soon as you both crossed the huge gates of the outer wall, it was mayhem.
The courtyard was still smoking, some parts at least, the second wall had a huge hole in it, and the moat was intact, but one of the towers of the main castle was burned down, destroyed. But luckily, they were going to be rebuilt.Â
Everyone was in a panic, running up and down the courtyard, and their adjacent stairs, counting their losses, that wasn't much, luckily⊠bodies were being gathered in the patio, covered, to honor their traditions, it all made your skin crawl.
The news didnât say anything about your children, but something even more terrifying.Â
Winterfell had been attacked, in the heart of the North, the lair of the wolf had been ravaged by the golden dragon, but you only care for one thingâŠ
Everybody walked towards you and Cregan, gathering in the courtyard, calling for their leader. You both had left the White Hall as soon as he received the letter, you flew all night, arriving first light in the morning. You were tired, but anxious, you needed to see your children, who you haven't seen in months.Â
The maester came towards you first, everyone moving for him to advance to you, limping. in his face worry, crinkled with old age and fear
âIt happened three days agoâ, he told you, not bothering in pleasantries, âhe came and demanded our surrender, Aegon the Usurperâ, your eyes filled with tears, âwhen he started to round up the ones that defied him, iâm sure to burn them, My Lord, Lady Sarra intervened, the childrenâs dragons too, tried to attack the golden one. Aegon, he discovered the princes, and heâŠâ, your heart stopped
âWhat?â, you demanded
âhe tried to take themâŠâ
âTake them?â, you asked slowly, âhe took my children? What happened?â, you asked
âThey managed to run away, with Lady Sarra, the Usurper was alone, he didnât have anyone with him to execute his orders, only his dragonâŠâ, he muttered, your eyes filled with tears, âbut there is somethingâŠâ. The maester made you follow him again outside the castle walls.
He took you to an old big barn, near Winter's Town, but far away from the people, apparently that is where they were keeping your childrenâs dragons. YOu went around it, and what you found made you stop in your tracks. Your eyes filled with tears when you saw Greywind, Vaegorâs dragon, dead, slain, his neck bit, it had been Sunfyre, there was no doubt. His gray body laying over the snow, frozen in time, dark blood pulled and froze around him, his body was smoldering still,Â
You gasped, covering your mouth with your hand.Â
Your children, Greywind⊠where was Rapua? Where were your children? How many people died in Winterfell because of you? what about Sarra? Creganâs daughter, your son's betrothed
The maester, Cregan and you trembled when you heard a loud growl, a sharp noise. You looked up and Vhaelar arrived, flying, landing on the ground by her dragonlingâs body.
She cooed, lowering her head to look at him, sniffing at him slowly, like she didnât want to accept what was right in front of her.Â
Bitter tears fell down your eyes when she moved him with her snout, like she was trying to wake him up. But he moved back limply. She growled, sadness in her golden eyes, she cooed at him again moving him once more, but he didnât respond, he was never going to.
Vhaelar raised her head and spit fire towards the skies with an earth shattering growl, opening her huge wings and flapping them around. She stopped with a heart clenching screech.she looked down at you and growled slowly. You knew she was never going to hurt you, but you felt scared at seeing her like this, she looked wild, and dangerous.Â
With her tail she destroyed the barn, reducing it to rubble with one sharp sweep. And growled at it, like it was the responsible one for the death of her dragonlingÂ
One of your children dragon was dead, and they were missing
âWHERE ARE MY CHILDREN!?â, you demanded

Since in the last one I only included ladies, here are some gentlemen for you X'D: Baelon Targaryen, Daemon Targaryen, Aenys Targaryen, Aegon IV Targaryen (yes hate me all you like), Viserys Targaryen and Maekar Targaryen
Baelon Targaryen
favourite thing about them: His relationship with Alyssa
least favourite thing about them: Heâs so decent, why would I dislike something about him?
favourite line: âThey call me Baelon the Brave, but you are far braver than me. I would sooner fight a dozen battles than do what you've just done. â
brOTP: Baelon x Aemon
OTP: Baelon x Alyssa
nOTP: Baelon x Viserra because she would probably have an affair with Viserys or Daemon and then poison him
random headcanon: he liked dancing
unpopular opinion: I was really glad Fire and Blood completely destroyed all the scheming!Baelon therories as I didnât like them at all smh
song i associate with them: none
Daemon Targaryen:
favourite thing about them: the fact that always did what he wanted with little regard for everybody else
least favourite thing about them: the fact that always did what he wanted with little regard for everybody else
favourite line: that quote about Dark Sister thirsting for blood
brOTP: Daemon x Viserys
OTP: Daemon x Rhaenyra, Daemon x Mysaria
nOTP: Daemon x Rhea Royce (that marriage just shouldnât have happened)
random headcanon:Â He and Rhaenyra had epic fights
unpopular opinion: I think his sons (and Rhaenyraâs sons) worshipped him, because he had the exact type of personality that children would worship at a young age, only he died before they could become too conscious of his very real flaws
favorite picture of them: Daemon as naomimakesart drew him, because itâs his best depiction by far
Aenys Targaryen
favorite thing about them: the fact he was the perfect husband
least favorite thing about them: he indecisiveness
favorite line: I donât have one
brOTP: Aenys x his children
OTP: Aenys x Alyssa
nOTP: Aenys x Maegor
random headcanon: He and Alyssa used to go horseriding together
unpopular opinion: I think he and Alyssa had a very healthy and supportive relationship, despite all of his flaws
song i associate with them: none
favorite picture of them: the art from Fire and Blood
Aegon IV
favourite thing about them: Em, he was handsome once, I guess?
least favourite thing about them: Literally everything else lmfao
favourite line: none
brOTP: I donât think anybody could stand him long enough to be his friend
OTP: Aegon IV x that ridiculous crown he used to wear
nOTP: Aegon and every person who had the misfortune to meet him
random headcanon: I think he was deeply impacted by losing his mother at such a young age, and he most likely had the most memories of her among his siblings
unpopular opinion: i dont think he was mad, he was just a absolutely terrible human person
song i associate with them: none
favourite picture of them: I guess the fanart of him with Aemon and Naerys, he looks appropriately slimy and lecherous
Viserys I Targaryen
favorite thing about them: He was a nice person (though he could still be an asshole sometimes)
least favorite thing about them: He played favourites between his children
brOTP: Viserys x Daemon
OTP: Viserys x Septon Eustace they have roughly the same amount of braincells so itâs a match made in heaven :D (I mean, I also ship Viserys/Alicent but Viserys/Eustace is an incomparable otp)
nOTP: Viserys/ Laena Velaryon
random headcanon: He had a new crown made especially for Alicent when he married herÂ
unpopular opinion: I think he deserves so much more criticism for how he fucked up things with regards to the Dance AND for forcing Rhaenyra into an unwanted marriage (I have seen people criticize Alicent for supposedly âforcingâ Helaena into marriage with Aegon II - even though we dont know Helaenaâs or Aegonâs feelings and we arenât even sure the wedding was Alicentâs idea, but Viserys threatening his daughter into marrying a man whom she didnât like is perfectly okay because the Velaryons are âcoolâ?)
song i associate with them: none
favorite picture of them: Amokâs portrait of Viserys
Maekar Targaryen
favorite thing about them: the fact he is so salty and so sexy at the same time
least favorite thing about them: he doesnât appreciate how hilarious Daeron the Drunken is
favorite line:
brOTP: Maekar x Baelor
OTP: Maekar x Dyanna Dayne
nOTP: Maekar x Bloodraven
random headcanon: he had close relationship with his two daughters
unpopular opinion: He and Stannis do have a lot of parallels but Maekar is way cooler
song i associate with them: none
favorite picture of them: that art of him with Baelor

đČTHE TARGARYEN TAGđČ
I thought it would be good fun to come up with a tag for all the Targaryen lovers out there so here it is!
This tag is open to all, so feel free to participate regardless of allegiance!
I was tagged by: @naomimakesart
đČđ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„đČ
1. Your favourite/least favourite Targaryen:
This was super hard to narrow down to even a top ten.
Top Ten Favorite: Visenya, Alyssa, Baelon the Brave, Baela, Elaena, Rhaenys the Queen Who Never Was, Baelor Breakspear, Maekar, Daeron the Drunkard, and Good Queen Alysanne.
Least Favorite: Aegon II
2. Underrated Targaryen:
Probably Septa Maegelle. She's smart and she tends to the sick and that's on top of being able to get her parents to reconcile. She's also brave since I don't think many people would willingly tend to people with greyscale. It's such a shame we only see so much of her.
3. Snog/Marry/Avoid Targaryens:
Snog Daemon the Rogue Prince
Marry Queen Rhaella
Avoid Aegon IV
4. A Targaryen who deserved better:
Hard choice, there are so many. But I would choose Princess Alyssa Targaryen because of the way she was written to get her off the stage so to speak. GRRM could have killed her off in multiple different ways (riding accident, a fall, a hunting accident, a sparring accident, an illness, appendicitis, exit pursued by bear, etc) but no she dies by childbirth. Yet another among the disproportionately many other women who died that way.
5. OTP Targaryens:
OTP - Alyssa x Baelon, Daeron x Jeremy, Daeron II x Mariah, Alysanne x Valyrian Scrolls, Aegon III x therapy, Aerea x Life
OT3 - Visenya x Aegon x Rhaenys, and Rhaena x Elinor x Jeyne (that was my secret favorite before Sons of the Dragon came out but then GRRM kinda fulfilled it by a 3rd in Fire and Blood. I'm still disappointed that it doesn't seem like Elinor or Rhaena had any communication after they survived Maegor. *sighing forever*)
6. A Targaryen youâd like to go on holiday with:
I bet Rhaenys and Corlys went on a bunch of fun trips to all sorts of places. Would be fun to go with them to Braavos or one of the other Free Cities.
7. A Targaryen youâd want to be best friends with:
Alyssa. She's described as being all her mother is and more and since Alysanne is a pretty amazing and smart person then it stands to reason Alyssa is as well. She's probably a blast to hang out with if you have similar interests.
 8. A Targaryen who just needs a hug:Â
I would hug Aegon III if he would let me. Alternatively Maekar or Daeron the Dreamer.
9. Problematic Fave:
Saera Targaryen. She's a terrible person but I'm fascinated by her. I'm currently writing a meta piece on her rn.
10. A Targaryen youâd go on a dragon ride with:
Queen Rhaena. She's traveled all over and she's flown with people before. I think if we found something in common she would be a good travel buddy.
11. Favourite Targaryen bastard?
Bloodraven, I mean have you seen him in the Mystery Knight? He's a ... riot.
Non Great Bastards would probably be Gaemon Palehair because he's totally Aegon II's but he had poor Essie tortured till she would say what they wanted her to say. Because honestly he already had 2 bastards born around the same time the twins were and they were called his first bastards, he very likely had more.
12. A Targaryen youâd want as a lover:
Shiera Seastar duh. Less trouble than being one of Prince Daemon's. Mysaria would probably have me killed. Oh sure people fight over Shiera but if she's fine with it then I'm down. Plus, who would fight a person with boobs for her? How embarrassing would it be for them to lose to me?
13. Which Targaryen dragon is your favourite?Â
Vhagar followed by Moondancer.
14. Bloodraven: fan or ban?
Part of the fan club.
...wait there are people who don't like Bloodraven? Is that a thing? ???
15. Viserys (son of Aerys II): evil twit or mentally scarred victim?
Uh... neither? He's not evil. Abusive yes, evil no. He might have been evil if he was in a position of power but only because of paranoia. I'm not sure he gets enjoyment out of hurting others like his father, Joffrey, Ramsay, Euron, or Aerion do. He hurts Dany because he gets angry and he has power over her.
And he's not a victim. He's a pawn in Varys and Illyrio's game. And while he does have mental issues, but I don't know if that's because he was mentally scarred. I think he's predisposed to paranoia. The situation he's lived in since the war is not helpful and it definitely was a contributing factor when Dany and him were on the streets. But I think it would have happened eventually regardless.
16. Favourite non-Targaryen spouse/consort?Â
Favorite Consort: Queen Alyssa Velaryon
Favorite Spouse: Ser Michael Manwoody
17. Team Lilac Eyes or Team Indigo Eyes?Â
Indigo. Everytime I think of Lilac I think of Viserys. I can't help picturing him everytime I read it.
18. Favourite quote by a Targaryen:Â
It's a tie.
"Your guards are slow and lazy." - Visenya the most badass. No fucking around, straight to the point.
And
"His Grace my brother can command me. You cannot." - Baela also a certified bad ass.
Just realized these both have face slashing before these quotes. I guess it's a theme. lol
19. Most badass Targaryen moment:
When Daemon jumps from his dragon to stab Aemond with Dark Sister. Metal af.
20. Blackfyres: Yay or Nay?
NAY!
Daemon might have been an upstanding guy, but to steal a quote from Ser Eustace Osgrey, "You can know a man by his friend," and Daemon's friends were terrible people.
21. Most touching Targaryen moment:
Bolded for emphasis:
[âWe are glad to have you safe home, my brother.â
Mushroom says that Oakenfist was laughing as he climbed back to his feet. âSire,â he replied, âyou have honored me with your sisterâs hand, and I am proud to be your brother by marriage. Yet I can never be your brother by blood. But there is one who is.â Then with a flamboyant gesture, Lord Alyn summoned forth the treasure he had brought from Lys. ... The boy threw back his cowl. As the sunlight glittered on the silver-gold hair beneath, King Aegon III began to weep, throwing himself upon this boy in a fierce embrace. Oakenfistâs âtreasureâ was Viserys Targaryen, the kingâs lost brother.]
This scene was so touching it made me cry. First, Aegon calls Alyn his brother which is very sweet. He could have called him his goodbrother, but he didn't. And then Alyn's whole bit how he's proud to be a part of Aegon's family but acknowledging that he can't replace Viserys. And then Aegon finally being reunited with Viserys after so long and how he doesn't have to feel guilty anymore because Viserys can forgive him. Just feels all around.
22. Which Targaryen would give the best life advice?
Probably Baelor Breakspear. He's down to earth and smart.
23. Your favourite Aegon?
Aegon V for now. May change depending on what leads up to the tragedy at Summerhall. Aegon III is a close second.
24. Which Targaryen was the most badass?
Visenya, I mean fuck but she's so boss. She fought to till she was like 74. She was probably one of the best warriors of her time during her prime. Especially since she was key to protecting Aegon during that attempt on his life.
25. Most heartbreaking Targaryen moment:
I'm just going to quote the whole section:
[... of Lady Jocelynâs empty bed and bitter tears, and the way Princess Rhaenys wept to know that her father would never hold the child she was carrying? Far easier to speak of Prince Baelonâs wroth, and how he came down upon Tarth on Vhagar, howling for vengeance.
...
But it is said that when he saw his mother again, he fell into her arms and wept. âI slew a thousand of them,â he said, âbut it will not bring him back.â And the queen stroked his hair and said, âI know, I know.â]
It's just so heartbreaking. Yes it's sad for Alysanne and Jaehaerys to lose their son, because it's always terrible when a parent has to bury a child before them.
But for Baelon, Jocelyn, and Rhaenys, they should have had so many more years with him. Baelon and Jocelyn should have grown old with Aemon! Rhaenys had her father taken from her too soon. Her children will never get to know their grandfather. Jocelyn should have had Aemon by her side to spoil their grandchildren!
And Baelon! No one knows a person as long as a sibling does. Not every siblings are friends but Baelon and Aemon were close to each other, probably each other's best friends. Baelon's grief is one that strikes me right in heart. His pain is so raw. And as an older sibling who is very close to her brother it's also one of my biggest fears. This wasn't the only time Fire and Blood made me cry, but it was the one that really stuck with me. That image of Baelon crying into Alysanne's arms as she says "I know, I know."
Oh, oh, oh...
Please excuse me while I go cry forever after that downer.

not to be basic but,,,,, asoiaf/got for the ask meme
(haha itâs not basic! asoiaf is my main fandom, after all. like the mcu thisâll have some ties because i just canât choose. also, all of my ultimate faves are pre-series, so iâll also put down the ones i like from the main series.)
favorite male character: PS â Daeron II, Maekar. MS â probably Robb?
favorite female character: PS â Elia, Mariah, Alysanne, Rhaenyra. MS â Catelyn, Arianne, Cersei
least favorite character: PS â Can I just say 99% of the Targ men? If I have to choose one, Iâll say Daemon Blackfyre. MS â Excluding the obvious villains like Gregor Clegane or Tywin, Iâll go with Sandor because I just donât get the hype and also heâs an asshole
prettiest character: PS â Ashara. MS â Arianne
funniest character:Â Iâm not sure on this one, actually. Suggestions?
favorite season book: Probably ASOS
favorite episode:
favorite romantic ship: PS â Elia/Arthur, with Daeron/Mariah, Maekar/Dyanna, and Maron/Daenerys as more or less a tie for second. MS â Robb/Rhaenys and Arianne/Daemon, with second place going to Rhaella/Doran. Also I love the idea of Arya/Edric, though thatâs obviously just a speculative future thing, and after this gifset by @ivshkovadrian I am TOTALLY on board with a Catelyn/Jason Mallister AU đ
favorite family ship: PS â Baelor and Maekar, Elia and Oberyn. MS â Starklings?
favorite friend ship: PS â Elia and Ashara. MS â I guess Arianne and Tyene? Thereâs not enough female friendships in this series :(
worst ship:Â Oh god. SO MANY. PS â Maybe Jaehaerys/Alysanne or Aegon IV/Naerys? MS â Probably at the forefront because theyâre so damn popular would be Jonsa or SanSan. Get that shit away from me pls
âââ
send me a tv show, movie, or book [x]
