do you have any advice for planning out the story and each chapter? im trying to plan out this fic idea i have but i don’t really know how so i thought i’d ask one of the best ao3 authors i’ve seen
oh bby i'm about to go into SO much detail that i'm sure you didn't ask for but here we go! i've spent countless hours of my life on fic planning, and it usually goes entirely unseen by y'all! i'll try to use parts of my earlier planning for stormbreak as an example so as to avoid spoilers while giving you the ability to see how the plans translate into the finished product. this will also give anyone who's interested a cool behind-the-scenes look at how some of stormbreak's chapters evolved from my earliest notes!
i organize all of my planning in google drive, and i have several distinct stages i go through that increase in detail the further along you go.
at the broadest level, i have two documents that i use for brainstorming. one of them, called "snippets," is miscellaneous little half-thoughts and snippets or late-night ideas. it includes both scenes and characterizations. it's basically little notes and reminders to myself. these snippets can usually be worked into the fic at mostly any point. this document is pretty long; about 50 pages. here are some examples of the types of things i put in this doc, including something that inspired a scene later in chapter 11:
the second brainstorming document is called "scenes." this is basically a list of every single interaction and moment that i want to happen. each line of text will represent one of the povs that will end up in stormbreak, with usually 2-3 povs per chapter. each sentence is super brief, like max 10 words, and i'll usually spit them out without regard to chronology since some scenes can be worked in anywhere.
now beginning to put things together i have the document i call "chronological events." here, the scenes are all put in a specific chronological order. i'll assign chronology to certain scenes that have chronological flexibility. and each scene will be expanded into 3-4 bullet points that get at how this scene will advance the plot (through politics, characters, or relationships). here's an example of what this looked like for the scene that became alicent's pov in chapter 12:
and for the scene that became aemond and daeron's povs later in the same chapter:
the "chronological events" document is what i reference first any time i'm going through the planning process for a new chapter. it reminds me of what i need to accomplish with the chapter.
so now let's say i've looked at this document and want to proceed to the initial outline for the chapter. i write these in documents within a folder called "short chapter outlines," and each document is titled "short chapter X outline," with X just corresponding to the number in the actual fic. this will expand the bullet points from "chronological events" into an a few actual paragraphs, and add in some extra padding that isn't strictly plot-relevant but helps to build out the scenes. this is an example of what this looked like for the scene that became aemond's pov in chapter 2:
you can also see that this doesn't always end up being fully translated into the end product. in this example, i changed the events towards the end when writing the actual chapter because it made more sense to me.
okay now we go onto the last stage of planning before i write the actual chapter: the long outline. just like with the short versions, i keep these documents in a "long chapter outlines" folder and each doc is titled "long chapter X outline." it further expands upon the short outline; i'll put the short outline on the left half of the screen to look at it while i write the long outline on the right half of the screen. this is basically me stream-of-consciousness writing the chapter. the goal is to get the entire scene hammered out, pretty much paragraph by paragraph. if there are any particular descriptions, lines of dialogue, or even brief moments that i get stuck on, i write them in shorthand and don't worry about making them pretty. here's an example of this, from the scene that became aemond's pov at the start of chapter 6:
you can see that i expanded on most of these paragraphs and polished the sentences between this and the final chapter. but also that the level of detail here is really high.
lastly, we have the actual chapter, which i write based off of this long outline. i put the long outline on the left side and the chapter itself on the right side of my screen so i can see both at once. i write all of my chapters in microsoft word because that's the format i've written stories in since i was a child and it's where my creativity works best for whatever weird reason. the chapter always stays very true to the long outline, but as you'll see if you compare the long outline above to the actual chapter 6 i do add in a bunch of extra detail. the long outline is usually between 4,000 and 5,000 words and 10-15 pages, while my chapters are pretty much upwards of 9,000 words and 20+ pages. so it about doubles in length at this step.
i do most of my editing (switching certain lines and paragraphs around) as i write this first full draft of the chapter. so when i'm proofreading, i'm only ever checking for errors and seeing if i want to replace any words or phrases with a better idea. this last step usually doesn't take me more than a hour.
from there on, you guys are familiar with the end result! as a note, the "chronological events" and "short chapter outlines" are all fully completed for this story! i prefer to finish this level of planning before even beginning to seriously write. it helps me to lay the foundation for my plot twists from the very beginning of the fic!
#this was actually sm fun to talk about thanks for asking!#and hopefully this is also interesting for a few other people to see what could've been in some parts of stormbreak hehe#ask#asks#answered#hotd#house of the dragon#fic#fic: stormbreak#stormbreak#aemond targaryen#daemon targaryen#rhaenyra targaryen#rhaenyra#daemon#aemond#daemyra#daemond#rhaemond#aemyra#stormbreak chapter 2#stormbreak chapter 12#stormbreak chapter 6#stormbreak chapter 11

The biggest mistake and worst thing that the writers did to their show is making this imaginery bonding between Rhaenyra and Alicent the innate theme of the show. To make this ship work within the scope of the show , they literally destroyed the show .
Season 1 should have been Alicent vs Rhaenyra and Season 2 should have been Aegon vs Rhaenyra and Aemond vs Daemon. Alicent should have become a side character in the show for this time period as she was in the book as she'd nothing to do. To give Alicent screen time and a bunch of bogus scene that would make any person with common sense and logic roll the hell out of their eye balls they ruined the characters of both Rhaenyra and Alicent and took away from the other characters especially of tg vital screen time that could've made them fuller ,adding flesh to their story and character motivation, ultimately giving viewers the connection with the characters that is needed for the payoff in the war next season.
We're at a stage where when the characters will die we won't even care or feel the impact that we felt when beloved or even hated GOT characters died. Because we connected with them and their stories and journeys. Rhaenys death didn't have the impact it should have. Heck ! I was rooting for her death after she proved herself to be a hypocrite preach.
Bending themselves backwards to accommodate Rhaenicent and their stupid fandom , a multi million dollar show suffered.
I saw Daemyra reuniting and they didn't look like a beloved husband wife reuniting after a separation. They looked like two friends or worse a Queen and her General reuniting. Rhaenyra literally showed zero guilt for cheating on her husband who was always loyal to her both in their marriage and as a trusted faithful ally . I can't tolerate her anymore. I need Sunfrye to eat her now.
Rn, there's not a single character in this show that I care about. Except probably Aegon . Just a little bit . The rest of them can drop dead in a second and I won't care.
What these stupid inept unprofessional untalented mediocre writers did to the masterpiece of GRRM !

(1) I hate that they gave laena the 'consolation prize' treatment to prop up daemyra. I obviously think laena deserved much better than daemon but at least in the book she seemed happy and loved, and the way her character was described sounded like someone who would've loved the life they had in the show (except for the part where she couldn't see her family as much as she wanted). Not that i like laena being reduced to daemon's love interest (or simply to what she meant in his life) but the show was never gonna give her more than that with the way they rushed through things so they could've at least focused on them and not on 'how can we use this character and marriage to highlight even more that daemon wanted rhaenyra and would only ever be happy with her'. They made laena unhappy and unloved to show that daemon was depressed cause he couldn't be with rhaenyra.
In the context of the show they could've made daemon and laena marry and leave to see the world and be happy away from the place, people and customs that made them unhappy or chained them down. Laena would've loved that i'm sure, and they still could've made time to visit her family at driftmark. Laena could've been a woman daemon didn't expect to fall for but did, a love that filled his heart and life despite the way he missed rhaenyra; their time together and the family they formed could've been idyllic while it lasted. It could've been an oasis in the desert for daemon and a truly happy (short) time for laena, before tragedy fell on them in such a horrible way.
Yes to everything you said! Now, keep in mind that while haven't read the books themselves I still know things about them from like.....Google search and just learning from people who've read it. Now, for how easy it was for me, it makes no sense as to why Condal and Sarah whoever and the rest of the creating team for the show couldn't do the same because it seems like they either 1.) had no idea the difference between show and book Laena (which is bs) or 2.) simply didn't care and really wanted to center Daemyra (which seems more likely for how much they focus on the two together). But back to your point. I personally don't like Daemon that much either, really only care about him for his proximity to, mostly, Laena and their children, but from what I've seen, him and Laena were relatively happy and he did love her. Like aside from him killing her betrothed, if he didn't then knowing who this character is there would have been signs that their marriage held difficulty (I do believe the same couldn't be said for Daemyra in the end but that could be a factor of the war) but there weren't. Because, unlike what the show presents, he genuinely loved not only her but his daughters as he brought them to court and King's Landing multiple times.
In context of the show, to add more backstory behind their relationship: you could had Laena growing into herself as a woman, having contrast when we last saw her in prior episode, and have her know her worth (better than her parents trying to give her off to the king). She rides the largest and influential dragons in the world (I would have added a scene of her claiming Vhagar personally but Condal saw it as "unimportant" which was stupid) and comes from one of the richest houses in Westeros. With that in mind we could see her actively seeking Daemon out, like in the show during the wedding, because she knows that she wants him and she will make him notice her. Regardless of what any toxic Daemyra stan says, Daemon not only noticed her but was enthralled as well because he followed her to the dance floor and hardly took his eyes off of her when they were together. We could of had a scene of him explaining his travels and how he isn't burdened by the society around them (foreshadowing their future) and then, when the fighting starts, have him protect her from harm. Their marriage, to even hone in more that he loved her and didn't view her as a replacement for Rhaenyra, show him seek her out this time but, surprise, she turns him down because she views him as still wanting Rhaenyra. It isn't until he kills Bravos (which good for her because I would have added that too) and goes to her father for her hand that she (and the audience) truly realizes that he wants her. They get married and there's actual love there between them because Daemon, keeping good on his word, builds a life for her that isn't weighed down by their society around them and provides her a freedom that she definitely wouldn't of had with Bravos or Viserys. We could see them bonding and enjoying one another's company during their travels (have Laena send letters to Laenor about the new places they have been) and she ends up pregnant with the twins or (because in show I think Baela is older) becomes pregnant with Baela and then Rhaena later on (which could have been a difficult pregnancy that could also explain why it took them a while to try again) early into their marriage because they were just so involved with one another. When Laena nears her end they could had her beg Daemon to take her to Vhagar, for one last ride, have him carry her with the girls behind him, have them hold Laena, their mother, one last time and watch as Vhagar flies overhead with her one last time (this could even add to their story more such as Baela wanting to build her relationship with Moondancer more as to be similar to that of Laena and Vhagar to Rhaena desperately wanting a dragon to feel what her mother felt). We could had this instead of that brutal death scene because, Sarah, I have choice words with her because even the actress for older Laena asked why that plot was added. We all know why it was added because, whether intentional or not, it feels more likely used to prop Rhaenyra's death as more badass as, already, I'm seeing takes of how her dying by dragon fire was a dragon riders death---even though, in the books I think, and actual dragon riders death was being able to ride your dragon one last time and then, by that context, doesn't that mean many of the Targaryen enemies died a dragon riders death as well....?
All of this could have fit in the show (maybe even more with a few more episodes----which still surprises me how many there are because of its predecessor GOT *reminiscing when shows had more episodes*) but if not, then some scenes within the existing episodes could have been cropped or scrapped altogether (especially certain scenes like Aegon jerking off or the disgusting foot scene). It wasn't hard for the HOTD creators to add this, especially into the context of the show (or maybe Condal just doesn't have vision) as what I presented was very simple. But instead, there was a very obvious centering of Daemyra from Laena feeling like a second choice to Daemon not wanting to return home (wonder why) and as a result keeps Laena and the girls from returning home too and so on and so forth. Like they couldn't even let this man shed a tear at his wife's funeral (he laughs instead) and then have him sleep with his niece (who thought that was a good idea) and ignore his daughters for his niece's children even though they were bruised.
These choices do a lot of damage not just from a plot standpoint with Daemon, but the implications. Firstly, there is, to me personally, very little good shown for Daemon that would make me see him as a morally grey character. Like even with Rhaenyra little is shown (why was his ass sitting in a chair while his pregnant wife is standing?) it doesn't read that much like a man who deeply cares for his family. If they had shown him actively in love with Laena and caring for their little family (like they do in the books), then I would have changed my mind, but they didn't. They couldn't even have him say that he loved her when Rhaenyra ask (don't get me started on her saying to him "you abandoned me" but doesn't add Laena in the context as well considering in the books they were friends, could have been another way to add details from the books subtly). Even his relationship with Rhaenyra's kids seems surface level. I actually like book Daemon more than show, and it's because of the things I listed. Instead, in the show, he just, personally, seems like a grooming piece of shit husband (like his brother).
Now on to the implications. When the Velaryons were confirmed to be black in the show, I was excited because I heard great things about the house and characters itself and was like "yeah, black people in fantasy especially on dragons", even forgetting the negative experiences I had as a black audience viewer from GOT and their treatment of poc characters. But I should have known. From the costume design to the wigs, it was already a sign. Seeing more scenes with the white characters than Laena and Laenor, who were crucial to the story and have them put into tropes instead was disheartening. For Laena, it's the disposable black girlfriend (or wife in this case) who can't measure up to Rhaenyra, Daemon's one true love, and can't even have her story be told how it deserves. For Laenor it could be the absent father trope because we see more scenes with Rhaenyra spending time with the children than him, barely see them grieve his "death" before they move on and he is never mentioned again. I won't get into Baela and Rhaena here too much yet until I see how s2 plays out, but already have issues with their character plot in the show and have little hope for the future for them if I'm being honest.

Tag 9 people you want to get to know better
Thanks for the tag! @he-is-so-fucking-cute 🥰
Three Ships
Okay, I'm gonna do three ships that I have at the moment, because I would be absolutely unable to do my top 3 ships of all time or whatever
1) Daemyra fro House of the Dragon. Literally can't with them, brainrot is real and strong and I love them (also Daemon/Rhaenyra/Laena 👀)
2) IronStrange, Marvel. I just like sarcastic geniuses together idk
3) Dream/Calliope/Hob from the Sandman. Idk, the fics are few but they were good enought for me to ship them. Even tho i dont find Dream very shippable and I generally prefer gen with him.
(Honorable mention to Celeborn/Galaderiel, because I could've had it it trop had Celeborn as anything more than an off hand mention 💀. No, seriously, he deserved more than that.)
First Ever Ship
Probably SasuNaru, at least from the time when I actually started to get into fandoms and knew what shipping even means.
Last Song
Dorak Gai by Wegz. I've been enjoying some Egyptian rap lately. Tho, it just as well could've been something by Sabaton. Dorak Gai just happened to be the last song I've heard today.
Last Movie
Hmmmm. I don't remember, tbh. I haven't been watching movies often lately. Batman maybe? I think I watched it in summer. But I can't remember if I saw any other movies after that. I watch TV series more often than movies 🤷♀️
Currently Reading
A whole bunch of HotD fics. That's about it tbh. Well, there are fics for some other fandoms too, but hotd is my hyperfixation atm, so yeah
Currently Watching
The Peripheral, I'm watching it with a friend, and it's going slow. I still have one episode of Wednesday left. That's about it 🤔
But I have a very long list of things to watch alone and with a friend, so there is that.
Currently Consuming
Well, I've already mentioned hotd. I've also being playing Fallout New Vegas a lot lately. I'd play Warframe too, but my laptop is dying and can't handle it 😭😭😭
Currently Craving
Hmmmm, motivation to draw. That would be very nice. Also, some cuddles. I always crave cuddles, I'm very touch starved 😔. A cat to pet would be nice too.
Tagging @drxgonstone @faraige @futureheartswithbooks @dubiousdisco and @rainbow-demon503
That's not 9 but eh. That'll do. Feel free to ignore it, of course

I just saw those S2 leaks on Twitter and they're wild lmao, esp the Al*s part. I would've been willing to believe them honestly if they didn't include the thing about her killing Aegon on Maegor's order by changing her appearance…that alone would make her way too overpowered for a secondary character. That she may be much older is believable if there's magic involved.
Other than that I do tend to believe the part about her trying to seduce D*emon and maybe even sleeping with him because he'd be hallucinating Rh*enyra instead. There's also been confirmation that Emma was filming at the Harrenhal location and I think this gives some more credence to this rumor, which was also hinted in the book a bit. TB stans obviously believe Emma being there means D*emyra will take Harrenhal or will fight together in the Riverlands but I doubt it considering the audition tape which hinted at Daemon and his wife having a quarrel, with Al*s knowing it somehow (if the writers are going to involve Rh*enyra in some battle then Rook's Rest is the best option with Rhaenys sacrificing herself so she can escape).
Anyway, IMO whatever they're going to do with Al*s both sides will likely hate it: the blacks because of the D*emon thing as they would consider it cheating for some reason and the greens because the implications for her relationship with Aemond aren't so rosy and it won't be some tragic love story. Saw recently some greens coping by believing she was a spy for the greens the whole time and this is why Aemond spared her life, I mean if that's the case she was a shitty spy as she could've spied on D*emon when he occupied her castle and find out his plans before Aemond and Criston left King's Landing undefended. Ngl, this gives me "she's a powerful witch who can see the future yet she didn't see Aemond's death" vibes. I just can't see her as a green loyalist or a black one, if anything she's someone who's been doing her own thing the whole time: gaining power for herself. She has no reason to like any of the sides involved in this war, let alone fall in love with some psycho prince.
A thing I don't believe about those leaks however is Rh*eynra ordering B&C, it would be a departure from the book and I don't think the writers will be changing this about her character. This would only be believable if she orders the kidnapping of Jaehaerys but the whole thing goes wrong (or maybe because D*emon, without wife's knowledge, separately gave B&C the orders to kill and not to kidnap) and he gets killed. Also Corlys beating Aegon?? I don't know...Same for Blood beating Helaena. She didn't have any bruises in the photos we got from Spain, but maybe it was just a slap or he just didn't hit her face.
for alys, agree. i do not think she's on anyone's side but her own. imo interpretating her as a green loyalist is a big stretch, both book wise and from what rumours we he hear about the show. since she's a confusing character for many, i think that's why she's described for the show as "a healer with a secret". they just don't want to give very much away about where they'll take her character.
i do believe the leaks might be right about her age. while i do know that scenes read in audition don't have to be real scenes included in the show and sometimes are just written specifically for the audition, the whole "i'm not even a woman i'm an owl" or however the line went kind of gave me hints. honestly i don't remember the whole conversation but i do remember her taunting daemon which is why i also believe the leak that daemyra will be fighting a lot. at the end of the day even ryan said that the dark side of daemyra, or smth like that, will be further explored in s2 after the whole beef w the fans about daemon strangling rhaenyra.
however, as much as i want to see team black commit some crimes of their won so the people will temporarily leave my green mama and her kids alone, i also definitely do not believe rhaenyra will order b&c. i personally think luke's death isn't enough of a trigger for her to order something so heinous for jaehaerys of all the greens. i know there's the whole "he's the son of.." but i still don't think she's at that point in her journey so early. like you said, maybe if she didn't understand the deal she was striking, or giving a kidnapping order instead of murdering jaehaerys, but it's the part that makes me scratch my head the most. and the whole rhaenyra in king's landing doesn't make sense to me but idk i think the writers might want to give rhaenyra a more active role in the war altogether and not just on dragonback.
we shall see... those leaks might be partially true. we don't know. not until hotdleaks comes back from the war.

You came onto a post about the racism that daemyras visit upon Baela, Rhaena and Laena to argue with me about the validity of Daemon's love for his family.
The very first line in the very first paragraph was about racism and so were the second and the third. You skipped over all of that to pick a throwaway opinion in the second paragraph to debate to death.
I said repeatedly that the post was about racist daemyras and that I had no intention of debating my opinion with you. The post was always about racism and you're the one who derailed it.
It's very telling that you saw a post where I said that “Daemyras are so violently racist towards Baela, Rhaena and Laena” and felt that was an attack on all daemyras instead of just the racist ones. If you're not a racist daemyra, why are you so offended?
Also, no, not everyone who ships Daemyra is racist and treats Laena and the twins badly. It's horrible that some people do it, but not everyone is like that.
Where did I say this?
For years the character of Rhaenyra has also been mistreated by the fandom, including Laena and Laena x Daemon fans for the most part. However, that doesn't mean that all Laena fans will call Rhaenyra a whore.
What does this have to do with my post where again, I'm talking about racism?
There's no posts about how Rhaenyra loved her children with Daemon more than the Velaryon boys. It's only when it's Laena and the dragon twins that we start hearing that “Visenya would've been a white daughter he could've loved/been proud of.” “Daemon hated Rhaena because she reminded him of the black Jezebel who trapped him in a marriage he did not want.”
-
Are yous also under posts about Harwin and Rhaenyra telling all and sundry that she never loved him and that he was her second choice? Are there a disturbing number of fics where Rhaenyra's love for Harwin is debated and derided? Are there big posts with likes/notes/views that claim that Rhaenyra only had three (3) children with Harwin because she couldn't have Daemon?
-
It's only when it's Laena and the dragon twins that we start hearing, “he never loved them.” “Visenya was the white daughter he deserved.” “He ignored Rhaena because he hated Laena and wanted to punish her for trapping him with her evil whore pussy.”
Please show me the fics, art and posts where the Velaryon boys are excluded, their mothers love for them and their father derided and reduced. I'd really like to see them.
I agree. The only thing I don't validate is the fact that Daemon would have been in love with Laena. It's that simple. I've done several posts on Daemon and his daughters. Especially how similar Baela and Daemon are. And I've already said myself that Daemon loves all his children.
Your agreement with my last point means little to me. I do not require your validation to post an opinion just the same way you do not require mine. The post was about racist daemyras. You 🫵🏾 butt in to argue about my opinions and derail a post about racism. You 🫵🏾 butt in because you read “daemyras are racist” and felt called out.
This is a final response to @lagosbratzdoll since she removed the reblogs.
For the record, I've already made posts on the case of racism and misogyny in HOTD, so I care about that. I don't take this lightly. I just said that the fact that Daemon is not in love with Laena in HOTD has nothing to do with racism because that was surely already the case in Fire and Blood.
My first intervention was perhaps clumsy and I apologize for that, but that's just what I originally wanted to say. Nothing more.
You :
Love how you're skipping over the parts that are inconvenient for you. Skipping over the racism to argue with me about whether Daemon hated Laena, yous irritate the hell out of me.
If I talked about the racism card (and yes it was perhaps clumsy to say) it's because you told me that. Saying I skipping over the racism to say that Daemon HATED Laena.
While once again, I do not deny the racism of Laena and the other black characters in HOTD. I'm just saying that the fact that Daemon is not in love with Laena has nothing to do with racism.
And I NEVER said or implied that Daemon hated Laena. Never ! I just said he wasn't in love with her :
It has nothing to do trying to say that Daemon hated Laena.
Um and sorry, yes. Many people say that Rhaenyra was only with Harwin because she couldn't have Daemon. It's the case. Very much so. I am one of these people.
Also you :
You can love more than one person, and admitting that Daemon loved Laena will not kill you or take away his love for Rhaenyra. Admitting that Baela and Daemon are practically twins will not kill you, it does not take away from the love that he had for Rhaena, Aegon, Viserys and Rhaenyra's boys. Love is infinite, it can be shared.
I agree. The only thing I don't validate is the fact that Daemon would have been in love with Laena. It's that simple. I've done several posts on Daemon and his daughters. Especially how similar Baela and Daemon are. And I've already said myself that Daemon loves all his children.
Also, no, not everyone who ships Daemyra is racist and treats Laena and the twins badly. It's horrible that some people do it, but not everyone is like that.
For years the character of Rhaenyra has also been mistreated by the fandom, including Laena and Laena x Daemon fans for the most part. However, that doesn't mean that all Laena fans will call Rhaenyra a whore.
So no point putting all Daemyra stans in the same basket.
In any case if I was offensive in any way in my first reblog, I apologize, it was not my intention (I already explained what they were above).

Three years || Daemon Targaryen x Reader
A/N: I don't know how to feel about this one, I really liked the idea but I think I could've done it way better, anyways I might redo it soon. I hope you enjoy! <3
"Y/N!" A voice that hasn't been heard in the Red Keep for years now echoed around its walls.
Daemon strode through the big hallways in search for his wife who he had not seen in almost three years since he left to fight a war on his own. "Y/N!" Once again.
During this period of time he had heard nothing of his beloved,no letters no news. As if she had disappeared from the face of earth.
He let out another angry shout when a small voice interrupted him with a scold.
"Who are you? And why are you yelling?" A voice said from behind Daemon.
He turned around, eyes falling on a little girl standing a few feet away from him. The little one was clutching a wooden dragon toy in one hand while rubbing her sleepy eyes with the other one. Her silver hair was all over the place, probably from sleeping. Daemon's brows furrowed at the child. Whose daughter was this?
"Well hello there, little lady. May I ask what your name is?" The Prince said, crouching down to the same eye level as the little girl. He let out a small smile on his face, trying to avoid scaring her away without answers to his questions.
"My name is Daemyra, who are you? My mama said not to talk to strangers." She mumbled, a yawn escaping her mouth.
At the sound of the name Daemon felt shivers run down his spine. Daemyra, a name you had mentioned wanting to give to a child of yours one day. Could it be...? Daemon though. His mind slowly filled with thousands different thoughts. Was this child his? How old was she? Have you been unfaithful to him during his absence?
As thoughts raced around his mind, the little girl's eyes fell on something behind him, making her squeal and run towards its direction.
"Mama!" Daemyra shouted with excitement, running towards the woman.
"My love, what are you doing there? Come here right this instant!" You said while she ran towards you.
At the sound of your voice Daemon completely froze, unable to move from his position.
"I woke up to this man yelling mama! Who is this?" Your daughter asked as she leaned on your shoulder now, nestled securely in your arms.
You looked at the man she was talking about, he was now up on his feet facing you. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight of your husband in front of you. His hair now short, something different in his face from his long absence.
"Daemon?" You whispered, your feet felt like they were stone, heavy and unmovable.
"Y/N." Daemon said in response, taking a slow step towards you,his eyes still on the little child on your arms.
"Oh Daemon." You said sobbing as you ran towards him. The second you were close enough your free arm went around his neck, pulling him closer to your body. The mere presence of his was something you have been craving for over three years now.
"I have missed you so much,my love." You said, pressing your forehead to his. He placed a small kiss on your lips, still not fully able to process everything that had just happened.
"Y/N, whose child is this?" Was the first thing he asked, pushing away your arm that held his neck.
"Daemon...this is Daemyra, our daughter." You answered his question, looking at the girl in your arms who was now staring back at her father, their piercing violet eyes not looking away from the other one.
"Our daughter...?" Daemon asked, his voice quiet.
"Yes,my love, our daughter. Her third name day was just a few weeks ago. Oh Daemon you have no idea how hard it has been for us. After you left... everything got so much worse than it was." You started explaining.
Three years have passed since your last contact with your husband before he left. When Daemon rode away Caraxes none of you knew he had left something else behind except you, his wife. Months later, you found yourself swollen with his child and unable to inform him of the joyous occasion.
"I have a daughter...and you did not have the decency to ever sent a messenger to me? To tell me I had a child on the way? Or when she was born? Am I nothing to you,Y/N?!" Daemon voice roared.
Thank Gods there was no one present beside you. He continued his angry speech, not letting you speak even once.
Anger started bubbling inside your own being, he was being irrational, thinking of the worst without giving you a chance to explain.
"BECAUSE, DAEMON!" You yelled even louder, stopping his spitting "Because the moment your brother found I was with child,he forbade me from ever leaving the quarters of the Red Keep...a punishment for your disobeying... I was left alone in our chambers until I gave birth, nobody was on my side,I was helpless, Daemon, nothing could leave the palace without the King's approval. You left us Daemon, but you have no fault, just as I don't." You said, finally spilling out everything that had happened for the past years.
With teary eyes you looked at your husband, awaiting his response. Daemon just stood in front of you, speechless.
"If you don't believe me..." You started to say again but couldn't finish.
Your husband was hugging you tightly, one of his hands caressing your daughter's soft hair while Daemon's had his eyes closed.
"Dada?" Daemyra said, breaking the silence.
Daemon's sight fell on his daughter once again, now alongside a wide smile.
"Hello,my daughter." He said, leaning to press a kiss on her forehead. Daemon's chest was full of a feeling he had only felt with one other person,you- his wife. It was love and adoration, strong and passionate like no other feeling.
"Come with me, inside the room. Now!" You demanded, pushing his body towards your daughter's chambers, locking the doors behind you.
Your daughter started squirming in your hands, demanding to be put down. As her feet touched the cold floor she ran towards her father, pulling on his pants.
"Pick up, dada, now!" She demanded, making you chuckle.
Daemon smiled at her as he picked her up. Her little hands immediately went around his neck as she hugged him.
"You are something else, little dragon." He said as he looked at her.
"I have missed you, dada, mama too. She cries for you." Daemyra said, exposing your secret.
"She does?" Her father asked her,his eyes moving to your form again. Your eyes were still teary, nodding at him.
"You're finally back to us,my love. Please don't leave us again." You said, moving to stand next to him,one of your arms sneaked around his waist as you leaned on his strong body.
With one hand Daemon held your daughter while his free one took a hold of your chin, making you look at him.
His lips claimed yours in a hungry kiss, one that has beening awaited for three years now. His mouth moved against yours, tongue swiping across your bottom lip. A disgusted yell from your daughter broke you apart, making both you and Daemon laugh at her reaction.
"You have given me daughter." Daemon whispered, his forehead leaning on yours, lips inches away.
"Just as we dreamed of. A little princess for us to love and cherish, but your brother had to ruin our lives." You said with a soft tone in the beginning only to finish your words with a harsh snap.
"My brother will pay for all he's done to our family, but now,I just wish to be by your side and our daughter's. I have missed three years of her life, I plan on doing no such thing ever again. I make that vow today to you,my wife." Daemon said.
You missed him dearly with all your being during his absence, the love and happiness you felt right now were stronger than anything else, but still, there was the hatred and anger towards Viserys, for breaking your family apart. He was going to pay for it and will not know where it came from.
As the years passed Daemon reconnected with his family he had missed so dearly. Daemyra was stuck to him at all times, wherever her father went she followed right after. The two spend most of their time in the Dragonpit while your daughter was learning how to be a dragonrider for the dragon she had claimed not long after her father's return. The King's health was slowly getting worse, nobody being able to find out the cause. At first you though it was your husband who has done something, gotten someone to put poison in his wine, but Daemon was just as confused as you. It turned out being the Iron Throne what took your brother-in-law to the grave, Viserys had cut himself on the throne not once, resulting in the wounds not healing and spreading around his body in the form of rotten flesh. His doing was slowly pulling him down to his grave as a revenge to what he had done years ago.

HotD Ep 7: Thoughts (spoilers!)
Wow. What an episode.
"We have always been meant to burn together" had poets and writers crying. Jane Austin who? Most romantic line I ever heard. Also love the parallel during the funeral where Rhaenyra was tracking Daemon with her eyes– almost primal nature like two animals circling each other. It’s a familiar characteristic of Targaryens because it highlights their “Closer to (dragon) gods than men” saying
Aemond claiming Vhagar was one of my favourite scenes ever– cinematically. It was so cool and well shot. Plus, the kid actor who plays Aemond was amazing.
Least Favourite scene: The beach sex scene (I know, daemyra's look awayyyy). It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing. I was expecting more considering it's been 10+ years since they've seen each other. I guess I was wanting more yearning, tension, lust and passion– which is my own expectations fault. Honestly, for a second there I though Emma and Matt's chemistry wouldn't work. (Thank god for the wedding scene!!!)
I need them to have another sex scene, but this time with a female director because how are you gonna put have two actors with chemistry and give them a shitty love scene.
Favourite scene: The traditional Targaryen wedding. Are you kidding me? Like that was one of the most romantic, fantasy genre wedding sequences I have ever seen. Matt and Emma's chemistry was chemistry-ing.
A close second favourite is the confrontation scene between Alicent and Rhaenyra. The acting was amazing, some really great lines were thrown in, and the mood was set for the future episodes. It's like the pieces are finally falling into place of what will be the highlight for the rest of the series. We are only at the beginning.
The scene of the kids literally jumping on Aemond was funny as hell. I was literally cheering my kiddos on! Baela with that deadly right hook + Lucerys with the winning slash?! Now that is cinema. It was also really cute how the boys immediately jumped into to defend the girls.
What I did not get was why Daemon did not once interact with his daughters during the entire episode? During the funeral– nada. Seeing them with their bloodied faces after a fight– nada.
The first thing Rhaenyra did as soon as they arrived (sex hair and all) was call out to her sons, but crickets from Daemon. Then they had the audacity to show Daemon walking up to Rhaenyra to check on her wound (which was cute and domestic as hell. I squealed!), stand by Rhaenyra and her sons, BUT not show him check on his own two daughters. Where the hell is my Daddy Daemon?!
I love, love that scene between Rhaenyra and Laenor where they laid out their feelings. It was clear they tried to make their marriage work, but they are too different and want different things. Plus, that ending had me gasping and everything– what a twist! (what about his dragon though?)
Why did the children have to watch their parents go through the whole blood ceremony wedding. Luke clearly just wanted to stay home and play with his Granddad's Lego.
+ French kissing like that in front of said children?! Disgusting. Call child services.
Helaena, my little bug child, they could never make me hate you.
"I'm going to bed, Aemma" I GAGGED.
Rhaenyra proposing in High Valeriyan was the best thing I could've ever received from this show. Not only was it romantic as hell considering those two only spoke High Valeriyan to each other (it's literally their love language babes), but Emma D'arcy did such a phenomenal job with the dictation that it seemed so natural on their tongue.
That is all.
Great episode, and now I cannot wait for next week!
ps. this lil moment was kinda hot

I don't give a fuck if you think that Daemon only ever loved Rhaenyra. I am not looking to debate my opinion on Daemon and Laena. What annoys me is you interfering with my post about racist daemyras.
You calling discussions about anti-black racism “pulling the racism card” tells me all I need to know about you. Again I ask, if you're not a racist daemyra, why are you so offended?
This post has always been about racism. You're the one who derailed it to debate the validity of Daemon's love for his family/wife.
I think it's deeply amusing that there are no prominent debates about the validity of Rhaenyra's love for Harwin. There's no one jumping on posts about the Velaryon boys to say that Rhaenyra only had them because she couldn't have Daemon.
I am tired of arguing.
These are the lines the post ends on. If you read all of that and felt that it was an attack on you, that says a lot about you doesn't it.
Daemyras are so violently racist towards Baela, Rhaena and Laena, it baffles me. Sometimes, I’ll be having a good time on the internet or reading a fic, and then I’ll stumble upon something profoundly racist. The racism I've seen is actually turning me off the ship and the characters.
Laena was not Daemon's second choice. He loved her. They were happy, and they had three wonderful children together. They toured Essos together, and he flew to Dragonstone to get Rhaenyra's maester to try to save her life. He loved her deeply, and he mourned her when she passed.
You can love more than one person, and admitting that Daemon loved Laena will not kill you or take away his love for Rhaenyra. Admitting that Baela and Daemon are practically twins will not kill you, it does not take away from the love that he had for Rhaena, Aegon, Viserys and Rhaenyra’s boys. Love is infinite, it can be shared.

Oh, Miguel 🙄🙄
I'm glad that Sapochnik isn't returning for season 2 because so much damage has been done to Laena and Mysaria's storylines in the name of 'girlbossifying' them. And no, he clearly doesn't care about these characters as much as their fans do, only that he gets claps and rewards.
Laena had a relatively peaceful death in the book after a complicated birth, with Daemon carrying her back to bed after she died on her way to her dragon Vhagar to ride her one last time. Instead, they're reportedly giving Laena suicide by fire! Her dear dragon flames her up as Daemon watches in horror! 😩
I know. I know. The showrunners wanted to girlbossify Laena and we should all 'rejoice'. "Look at her take her fate into her own hands, delivering herself and her unborn baby (who was actually born in the book) to death under her OWN terms. How heroic!" Right? Wrong!
You know what most viewers will conclude from this radical change from the book? That Laena 'is not strong enough', 'is cruel' and that she 'doesn't care about her unborn son with Daemon'. Or worse, that she traumatized Daemon and 'clearly didn't love him enough'.
Why? Because it's always the woman's fault when something bad happens to a dearly loved male character. How dare she break his heart???
I can already smell those derogatory comments coming and it's not fair because this isn't what Laena would've done, especially to her daughters. To inflict trauma of this magnitude to her husband and children AND her dragon is NOT who Laena is, but Miguel thought so. Just because. 🙄🙄🙄
However, my issue doesn't lie with Laena's changed death alone. Mysaria also gets robbed of a defining factor for her choices in the books: her miscarriage.
The showrunners, self-proclaimed champions of women's birth struggles, ERASED Mysaria's traumatic miscarriage of her unborn son in the book (her and Daemon's baby) after being banished from Dragonstone and humiliated under Viserys' orders enacted by Otto. This is what we should've gotten in episode 2 and what had canonically caused Daemon's initial resentment towards Viserys.
But no. Instead we got a one-dimensional Mysaria without complexity. Which is interesting given that her miscarriage and banishment in the book is what could've driven her questionable political advice to Daemon and Rhaenyra in the future as their defacto Mistress of Whisperers!!! Everything about that scene was changed up in the show much to the detriment of Mysaria's storyline.
Laena and Mysaria's characters have been grossly butchered and misrepresented in the name of writers' and showrunners' egos. Not so many people will get to understand how much impact they have on other character's lives (especially Daemon's) because of the changes.
What's even more unfair is that Miguel has seemingly taken from Laena and Mysaria's stories to give to Rhaenyra for mere fan service; case in point, Daemyra. So you have a situation where Daemon and Rhaenyra's stillbirth story is elevated over the other traumatic birth experiences (by case of omission or inversion in Mysaria and Laena's stories respectively) as Daemon will most definitely be by Rhaenyra's side when it happens and also get to share in her grief. They get to keep their storyline in the book while the others don't.
Keep in mind that Laena and Mysaria's experiences were put there to highlight Daemon's journey through the years and his changing sentiments, beliefs and understanding of things as well as his relationship with other characters (especially with his brother Viserys). Not just to merely compete with or sabotage another ship.
To see Laena and Mysaria's canon pregnancy trauma storylines being pushed aside and replaced with rhetoric, never to be known by non-book readers, is upsetting. Their experiences told us lots about their mental states, personalities, family, backgrounds and even the Rogue Prince they were entangled with. It was sad, it was beautiful, it fleshed them out and made them feel like real, average women with real, average struggles. But the show-runners have robbed these female characters for brownie points instead.
I hope these mistakes won't be repeated in the coming season(s). I truly hope they won't for the sake of the beauty of the story.

Unpopular opinions on House of the Dragon tv series
1. I'm slightly over daemyra. Not really over but idk. They're not hitting the same to me. I still love them but I think the writers are doing a bad job with Daemon's character and I know Twitter has legit beef with the writers (pretty sure one of them said something along the lines of why do book fans think they know daemon better than him) and they should tbh.
2. Idk if this is unpopular or I'm just on stan twt too much but idk who in their right mind would think the show is Black propaganda
3. ....purely for political reasons, viserys should've married Laena. No pedo shit I promise 🤢 but all of this could've been prevented if he had
4. The Targaryens absolutely need to keep it in the family. The only 2 Targaryens to have trouble controlling their dragons are the 2 that also happen to only be half. This is what happens when they procreate with outsiders 😭
5. Alicent had no legitimate reasons to hate Rhaenyra so much (pre episode 7)
6. Laenor was kind of a bad husband

when i had watched the episode i promised myself i wouldn't write this post but i've seen like three laena posts and i'm in pain so here goes nothing. i haven't read the books so. don't be mean to me thanks <3
if they HAD to kill laena off without delving deeper into her and daemon's relationship, they should've killed her in child birth but still made it her choice.
the maester turns to daemon to let him make the decision, but he doesn't. you know why? because laena is fully capable of making that decision herself and daemon knows it. he cares for her!!!!!!!! or at least he fucking should!!!!!!! he doesn't want her to die!!!!!!! he doesn't want their baby to die!!!!!!!
and like it pisses me off that they just had her go outside. like yeah, it ties the whole "i want to die a dragon rider" line together with her death, but wouldn't it have been so much more tragic if she didn't die in flames?
throughout the episode we see a woman who cares for and loves her children and her family. would she, even when in pain, not say goodbye to her own children? would she KILL HER OWN BABY???? HUH???????? NO!!!!!!!!!!!! we know that her baby isn't healthy (or at least book readers know her baby isn't), but LAENA DOESN'T. or at least there is no indication whatsoever that she or anyone else knows that her baby isn't even alive.
and the worst is that they could've set the scene up the same way. they could still have the maester ask daemon what to do and they could still have daemon ask him if laena would survive. she clearly knows what they're talking about!!!! she should've walked straight up to them, told the maester to save her baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we could still have gotten an emotional scene (that would be more emotional than a dragon blinking for ten seconds) with daemon telling her not to do it or some shit.
it would make so much more sense than having them cut aemma open in ep 1, too??????? if you HAVE to have the stupid c-section in the show, it would've made SO MUCH MORE SENSE TO GIVE IT TO LAENA. that viserys made that decision when he claims to have "loved his wife so much" all the time is literally one of my biggest issues with the show so far.
and then we could've gotten a better laena and daemon story altogether, still in the same amount of screen time. tell me it wouldn't be so much better if 1) they actually loved each other, 2) laena made a tough decision (showing that those often fall on the women's shoulders because men can take whatever they want, since the creators are so adamant on "keeping the misogyny realistic") and 3) daemon would've been an actually good dad.
like it feels as if they just kept laena and daemon's story line (if ten minutes of screen time can even be called that) to set up daemon and rhaenyra's relationship and it makes me so angry. i love daemyra!!!!! but guess what!!!!!!!! i love daemon and laena too!!!!!!!!!!!!! do they even have a ship name!!!!! he should've been seen as a better fucking dad!!!!!!!!! because there is no way in hell rhaenyra would have children with him (which i'm fucking sure they will eventually) IF HE IS A SHIT DAD. there's no way in hell laena would STAY WITH HIM IF HE WAS A SHIT DAD.
there was just so much with this episode that felt forced and stupid and i am so not here for it but i unfortunately do not have the patience to read the books so i guess ill just have to suffer. like don't even get me started on laenor or we'll be here all day
