note: not entirely happy about this but I really wanted to do this concept also sorry if your name is Evie I tried to use a name I liked but something I don’t see most people have

Your daughter had hopped in the backseat without her usually greeting. With you she was a chatterbox, rambling about her day and what her friends did during school. With new people, she was shy. She’d hide behind your legs as you introduced her to strangers. She takes a while to open up but once she comes out of her shell, she’s a social butterfly.
You’re not sure why she’s so quiet now and she won’t tell you. She sits in the back seat, feet still as her favorite song plays, a pout on her lips as she looks out the window.
You’re worried. Worried that maybe someone had bullied her or that she’d gotten into trouble somehow. No, the school would’ve called.
You make your way home, opening her door to help her out. She hops out and doesn’t hold your hand as you make your way into the complex.
“Did something happen at school?” You inquire.
She shakes her head as you unlock your door. She runs inside and kicks her shoes off, creating a tripping hazard. You figure it’s better to not poke the bear right now and don’t remind her of the rules to put her shoes on the shoe rack.
“Can I do my homework after dinner?” She finally speaks.
“Are you sure? Buck’s coming over, I thought you guys were going to play that new board game he got for you?” You help her take her back pack off.
“I want to go to my room.” She mumbles.
“You don’t want your after school snack? I was going to make you some celery and apples with peanut butter.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Babe, what’s wrong?” You kneel down to her height, brushing hair from her forehead.
“Nothing!” She pushes your hand and runs to her room, door slamming behind her.
You decide to give her some space as you take the groceries out that you bought for dinner. Your mind races with what you could have done to upset her.
Buck arrives about an hour later. His smile drops when he sees the stressed look on your face. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
You usher him in and pull him in for a hug. “It’s Evie.” You whisper though you know she can’t hear. “She was quiet the whole ride home and then when we got home, she bolted to her room.”
“Let me go say hi, I’ll be back to help set the table.” He smiles. He makes his way through the apartment to her room.
He knocks twice before opening the door just a crack. “Evie? It’s Buck. I just wanted to say hi and let you know dinner is ready.”
He hears her sniffles. “Come in.”
He smiles despite hearing that she’s been crying. When they first met, she was too shy to even look at him but over the last few months they’ve became besties. Buck of course spoils her and she loves it.
“Hey, you having a bad day?” He softly asks. She nods, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand and putting her pencil down on her open folder which lays on her lap.
Buck gets onto his knees at the side of her bed. “Wanna tell me what happened?” He brushes her hair away from her face and pulls it back behind her shoulders.
Instead of talking, she pulls a pink flyer from behind the worksheet she was writing on. She hands it to Buck.

Dinner | Dancing | Games
“You’re upset because you want to go to this?” He clarifies. She nods.
“My friend Tammy said she’s going with her daddy and my other friend Julie doesn’t have a dad like me but she’s going with her older brother.” Her lip wobbles. “I don’t have anyone to go with.”
“Hmmm. And you don’t want to go with mom?”
“Mommy is a girl.”
“Some people have two mommies instead of a mommy and a daddy and some people have two daddies.” He informs her.
“How does that work?”
“Okay maybe I should let your mom have that talk with you.” He rubs the back of his neck. “How about we go eat dinner and we can show mom the flyer? And if she is okay with it and you’re okay with it, I can go with you.”
“You’ll go with me? Even if you’re not my daddy?”
“Yeah, I’d love to take you. I’m not a good dancer though.” He warns.
“Thank you! Thank you!” She squeals, leaping forward to hug him.
Buck rubs her little back, pulling her up as he stands. “You ready to eat?”
She nods and rests her head on his shoulder as Buck hands her the flyer to hold.
You’re already serving three plates when they come out. You’re smiling when you see that Buck’s gotten her out of her mood.
“Everything good?” You raise a brow at him as you set a fork down by each plate.
“Yes mommy. I’m sorry I yelled at you earlier.” She wiggles down Buck’s front and runs to your side. She hugs your legs, the flyer crinkling against your thighs.
“What’s that you got there?” You point to the paper. She steps back and looks to Buck who nods at her, encouraging her to discuss the dance with you.
You read over the paper and look at her. “I want to go with Buck, pleaseeee.”
“So, this is why you were upset?” You place a hand, palm up, under her chin. “Did you ask Buck already to go with you?” She nods.
“If you’re okay with it, I’d be happy to take her.” He steps in.
“You’d do that?” You look at him, eyes glossy. “It’s not too much to ask?”
“Of course not. It’s important to her and you’re both important to me.” He opens the fridge and gets the juice and two water bottles out.
“Then I guess it’s a date.” You shrug, leaning down to kiss Evie’s forehead.
When dinner is over, Buck helps Evie finish her homework sheets. She’s too burnt out from excitement and her earlier crying that she heads to bed early.
She’s old enough to dress herself and brush her teeth, only asking for help putting the toothpaste on the brush.
After Buck helps her off the step stool, he helps tuck her into bed as you fix her nightlight. She falls asleep with a smile on her face, excited to tell her friends that she will be going to the dance.
You and Buck settle into your bed, changed into pajamas and comforted pulled down the bed.
“Buck?” You ask, nervously, as you slip into your side of the bed.
He hums, fluffing the pillow he always uses when he sleeps over.
“You sure you’re okay with taking Evie to the dance? I know we haven’t really talked about your role in her life. I’m not saying I’m expecting you to be her father or stepfather or anything like that and I know you said you were okay with me having a kid. I guess I’m just worried I’m forcing you to take on responsibility.”
“Breathe baby.” He leans into the bed, crawling closer to the middle. “You’re not forcing me to do anything. I love being with you and being your boyfriend and yes you have a daughter but that doesn’t bother me. I love spending time with you both. I like being part of your family.”
“You’re so sweet. I just don’t want you to feel trapped.”
“Don’t.” He shakes his head. “Don’t even think like that. I’m honored that she wants me to go with her and I’m grateful you’re letting me part of her and your life. Okay?” He holds your face in his hands. “I love you.”
“I love you. You’re too good to us.”
“Stop.” He feels a blush creeping up onto his neck.
Just days before the dance, you all go to the mall so that Buck and Evie can get matching outfits.
She’s very adamant about wearing a red dress and requires Buck to wear something red too.
Buck had decided to get ready before he came over for the dance. He also stopped to run some errands before coming over.
Evie had asked you to do her hair and if she could wear makeup. You settled for some sheer lip gloss to satisfy her.
She was pacing the living room. “Mommy! Buck is going to be late.”
“Babe, the dance is in an hour. He’s on his way.” You laugh, pouring yourself something to drink. “Just sit in the couch and relax.”
“I can’t relax! I’m so excited.” She jumps up and down. Buck knocks on the door and she runs. “He’s here! He’s here! Can I open the door?”
“Just this once.” You follow her, standing behind her.
When she opens the door, Buck stands there looking handsome as always. He’s holding a small bouquet of flowers, a pink heart balloon, and a small teddy bear.
“Ah!” Evie screams, holding her hands out for her gifts.
“Hi! You look so pretty.” He kisses her forehead. She giggles and runs to put her gifts on her bed. “She gets it from her mom.”
“You’re a smooth talker, Buck.” You grin at him. “And where’s my gift?”
“Right here.” He winks and pulls you into him by your waist. His lips meet yours in a passionate kiss. You only break away when Evie clears her throat.
“You should’ve seen her. She was more nervous than I was for our first date.” You laugh.
“Is that so?” He picks her up. “No need to be nervous little lady. We’re going to have a great night!”
“You’ll dance with me and my friends?” She pokes at his cheek.
“Of course, we’ll dance all night.” He kisses her cheek.
You kiss them both goodbye and assure Buck you’ll keep your ringer on in case he needs anything.
Buck is a gentleman as always as he opens the door for her both in the car and at the school. Her hand clings to his and he can see the nerves in her little eyes as she looks around the gym.
Her eyes widen and she taps Buck’s side, pointing at her friend Tammy who is sitting at a table with her father. Buck guides her over to the table and asks if they can join them. Buck makes small talk with the man as the kids show each other their dresses and sparkly shoes.
When it’s time, Buck helps serve Evie and helps tuck a napkin into her neckline. He’s at her beck and call, getting her cups of punch and cookies from the dessert table.
They end up winning one of the games due to Buck’s competitive nature. They win gift certificates for a local ice cream shop and promise to go next weekend. They then spend the night dancing (jumping and twirling) to pop music.
Buck’s burnt out, he thinks he might be more tired than a shift at the station. He’s sent you loads of videos and pictures throughout the night, even FaceTimed you to show you the decorations.
Your heart has swelled up with joy and love for your daughter and for Buck. It’s been hard for both of you without her father so her being able to have this experience makes you so happy. And Buck, I mean how could you not love him even more after this? He went out of his way to create a special experience for her without hesitation.
Your thoughts are interrupted when you hear the front door open, having just given Buck a spare key. You both shared an emotional moment when you gave it to him but it was bound to happen sooner or later and you felt the sooner the better.
You click the volume to mute and stand from the couch just as he’s approaching. He looks beat and tired with droopy eyes but he carries Evie’s sleeping form. Though she’s asleep, she holds onto him for dear life.
“Hey.” You whisper and lean up to kiss him. “I can take her.”
He shakes his head, “I got her. Let’s tuck her in. She’ll be too sleepy for a bath.”
You nod and plan to get her all washed up first thing in the morning. You help pull the blankets from her bed as Buck lays her down. You both take one foot each and unbuckle her shoes. He hands you the shoe and you place them in her closet.
After a kiss to the forehead and a flick of the nightlight, you both exit. Buck wraps his arms around you, his chest resting against your back. He tucks his chin into your neck.
“Sleepy?”
“Yes.” He groans. “I have not danced that much since I was a kid. But I had so much fun, she’s such a good kid. You’re such a good mom.”
You blush, cheeks flaming. “She is. Thank you for doing this.” You’re glad he can’t see your face. You’re about to burst into tears.
“I love doing stuff like this for her. And for you. You deserve a night for just you and to not worry about doing all this alone.”
“I love you, you know that?” You turn in his arms.
“Don’t cry.” He urges, hands rubbing up and down at your sides before his thumb wipes a stray tear on your cheek. “I love you. I’ll be here for you both. Always.”

Author's notes: I spent my first day of break at work, and I felt bad I didn't get this posted last night!

Bobby arrived after giving his statement to the police. He looked absolutely shattered- bloodshot eyes, worry lines etched into his face. Hen had told you that Bobby saw Buck as a son, taking him under his wing. He didn’t say much, occasionally turning to talk to Athena. You hadn’t learned much about her yet— only that she was Bobby’s wife and a police sergeant— but this wasn’t the time nor the place for introductions. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders, rubbing his arm as she leaned her head against him. Like she was the glue holding him together, bending to fit around his slumped over figure. 
After Maddie had her meltdown, she was able to hold herself together- that was until she had made the call to her parents. She was not looking forward to it. She knew what their answer was going to be. Chimney had convinced her that they deserved to know that Buck was in the hospital. 
You understood her hesitation when she made the call. They weren’t coming. They would call when he was awake. Maddie was silent for a few beats. 
Then she let loose, years of hurt and frustration boiling over. And she did not hold back.
You couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Maddie wasn’t having it.
“Do you know how much this will hurt him? His own parents couldn’t even make it to see him. Scratch that, you aren’t even parents! My brother could have died, Phillip and Margaret, and you can’t take the time to come see him?”
She’d spat out their names, words seething with fire. They tried to speak but she cut them off, not wanting to hear anything else leave their lips.
“Don’t even worry about him. His family is here!” Maddie’s voice breaks with a high note..
You glanced up discreetly, no one daring to look directly at her. She paced along the wall, tearing into her parents. You noticed her pulling on the ends of her sleeve with her free hand, an anxious tick you know all too well.
“I’ll deal with his hurt, like always.”
The fabric stretches as she wraps it around her fist, bringing it to her side. Soon after, she started hitting her thigh, tears in her eyes. 
It’s silent, not even a muffled response through the phone. All of the white noise from the waiting room is seemingly gone. As if time had halted to a stop. 
“I hate you every time his face drops and he—” 
She paused as her voice broke with a hiccup. She takes a deep breath and pushes it out, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of hearing her own hurt.
You closed your eyes, that familiar ache settling in your bones. How could someone disregard their own son, much less someone as kind and loyal as Buck? Someone who yearned for his parent’s love and attention. 
“He deserves so much more. So you know what Mom and Dad?” A short pause, a breath of courage as she mocks them. “Fuck you.”
She hangs up before they can respond. Chimney doesn’t move. No one speaks.  Everyone is on the same page—Maddie needs space. 
She pressed her lips to her covered knuckles, turning to look out the window. Her chest rose with a deep breath, exhaling shakily.Her other arm, wrapped around her torso. She was trying to hold herself together. 
 She tried to make sure that everyone he loved was here. But she couldn’t do that. 
She couldn’t do anything but wait. 
And her heart was breaking. 
It was quiet again after that. You had opened up your phone to catch up on the news. When that got boring, you laid your head back against the wall with your eyes closed. Nurses were talking amongst themselves. You could hear the mechanical lock of a door being opened and then the sound of it shutting with a gentle thud.
Eddie volunteered to go on a food run after his stomach made a loud growl. You were adamant that you weren’t hungry, but he had still gotten you something to eat, that wasn’t a granola bar. You apologized again for your reaction earlier but he laid a hand on your shoulder, looked you in your eyes, and told you not to worry about it. With some gentle coaxing, he had managed to get you to eat a small bag of Cheez-Its.
With each small update that signaled Buck was stable, the waiting room crowd slowly dissipated. At one point, you were counting how many steps it took a person to come or go, the repetitive nature keeping your mind occupied from the negative thought. While some left on calls, others were eager to get out of the hospital, the place that typically meant something bad had happened.
The last update you remember was they were starting to repair the achilles tendon in his leg. That was around 10:45. You were still exhausted from your own trauma the previous week, and staying up this late was already a challenge. But you fought to stay awake. Or at least tried.
The first time you fell asleep, it wasn’t for long. You startled awake with a gasp, covered in cold sweat. You brought your hands to your head, taking even breaths to calm your racing heart. To ease the pounding in your ears.
The nightmare happened again, but with a different twist. This time, Dr. Daniel’s wasn’t on the floor. Buck was. You were so close to getting him into the office, but it was too late. Dead. Both of you. 
You could feel eyes on you. Whose? You weren’t sure. But you had an inkling it was Eddie. You take another deep breath. Your ankle starts to shake back and forth anxiously. 
“Nightmare?”
“Yeah.” 
You take another deep breath, now aware that Eddie is watching you. But it wasn’t uncomfortable. You didn’t feel alone. Nor did you feel pressured to tell him about it. 
 You dug your fingertips into the corner of your eyes to help slow the headache coming on. It was strange to think that just 24 hours ago, you were in bed with Buck who was fighting your nightmares off. 
“I used to get them badly after Afghanistan.” Eddie opens up, drumming his fingers on his thigh. “Therapy helped a lot. I journaled for a bit, and it was surprisingly useful. It gave me things to remember to talk about in therapy. And getting it out of your head, and onto paper—it makes it easier to process.”
You let it sit out there for a moment. Would it be okay to talk about your trauma when he experienced far worse in Afghanistan? He had technically opened the door, but in comparison to you? 
Stop it. Stop comparing your trauma to others. You deserve your feelings, too. 
The words, a combination from your therapist and Buck, ring in the back of your head. You turn your body to face him, straightening up to present yourself as more open. 
“I haven’t had a real bad one until I went back to campus Monday, and saw Buck.”
“Yeah, I heard someone was your dream catcher last night.” Eddie teases, stretching his legs out. You let out a laugh, louder than you’d like to admit. 
“He called himself my knight in shining turnout gear.”
That gains the attention of a few others, who join in on the laughing. Even Bobby looks a little amused as he rolls an empty coffee cup in between his hands. 
“He’s Prince Charming for sure.” Athena chips in whilst walking back with another cup of coffee for Bobby. “Very endearing, wormed his way into my heart.”
“That was back when Buck stole fire trucks and slep-”
Hen shuts Chimney down fast.
“Nope, not here or now, Chim.”
The second time you fall asleep, you’re gently shaken awake. 
You blink your eyes open slowly. The white of the room is still blinding. You would think they’d dim it down for the night. The faint smell of coffee remains in the air. Your neck is stiff. You exhale sleepily, finding the strength to sit up and force your eyes open. Hen is standing above you.
“How long was I out?”
“A few hours.” 
“Mmhm, what time is it?”
“A little after four.” She responds, standing above you. “He’s out of surgery.”
You’re wide awake now. 
Buck is out. He’s okay.
“For how long?”
“About an hour. They let everyone see him briefly, and we didn’t want to wake you until everyone was done.”
You let out a breath you didn’t know were holding. Tension you were holding in your shoulders slowly starts to melt away.
“Can I see him?”
Hen nods, taking you up to the next floor to see Buck in the ICU. You feel stuck, but instead of unable to move, you want to run down the halls to see him. You don’t have any trouble moving once the elevator reaches the floor. However, the walk down the hall seems longer than it is. 
The room is dark, illuminated by the small light above the bed. The beeping of the heart monitor is steady, a light whoosh of oxygen filling the silence.
Maddie leans across the railing, fingers combing through Buck’s hair. He doesn’t stir.
His leg is held by a sling, cushioned by a pillow. Bandages cover his knee down to his ankle, holding him still. 
Your breath hitches in your throat. You reach for Hen’s arm to steady yourself without thinking. Holding you up when Buck can’t. 
“Oh Evan.” You whisper softly, tilting your head, a sad upturn of your lips settling in.
“He’ll be mostly out of it for the next few hours.” Maddie pauses, tilting her head to briefly look your way. You don’t miss the adoration on her face. “He ordered flowers and was going to bring you coffee and a granola bar for your first day of teaching. He was so proud of his plan.” 
You bite your lip, willing yourself not to cry.
God damn it, Buck. You told me you’d be safe. 
“I can go,” you offer, feet frozen in place. You bend your elbows, anxiously playing with your fingers. You don’t want to leave.Your mind is screaming at you to stay. But he’s not your family. 
“No.” She gives a firm shake of her head. “He’d want you here.” 
You don’t know if she’s just being nice. Or if she really wants you here. After today, you hope she does.
“Are you sure?”
You don’t want her to feel pressured to say yes.
“I am.” She motions to the empty seat. “Besides, they think you’re his girlfriend.”
Your heart stutters . Maddie told them you’re his girlfriend? 
“Sit down. I’ll walk Hen out, I have to use the restroom anyway.”
You glance up at Hen, who gives a smile. Courage to move. You carefully sit down.
“I’ll be right back.”
As soon as they leave, you reach over to grab his hand, careful not to disturb the IV. His hand is warm, and you carefully wrap your hand around his fingers. . 
You lose yourself in your thoughts. Or maybe you’re just groggy, because you actually aren’t thinking. You’re zoned out. 
You feel like a muscle has moved in his hand. You look down for a few seconds, seeing nothing. You’re imagining things.
Your eyes drift down to his leg, which is bandaged and being held together with pins. After a whole truck fell ontop of him, you were surprised that they didn’t have to amputate his leg. It’s a miracle they were even able to save his leg. 
“Ow.”
Your brows furrow together. Are you hearing things now? 
A low, pained groan gets your attention. Buck’s lashes flutter, eyes fighting to stay open. He barely lifts his head, seeing his leg wrapped up. His face drops in devastation. 
Then he spots you, his eyes lighting up. 
You push yourself up, fingers tightening around his hand as he squeezes back, warm and strong. 
“Hey, don’t move, okay? I’ll get a nurse.” 
“Wait.”
He’s groggy, his voice soft, slow. You keep a hold of his hand, watching him. You stay quiet. Let him take this all in. The dark room. The beeping of machines. The pain. His blue orbs are glossy, confused. It’d be cute if he wasn’t almost crushed to death by a firetruck.
“I tried.”
“I know.” You let go of his hand. Your hands are shaking, nervous at the idea of jolting him wrong and causing him pain. Your fingers lightly graze the skin of his cheek, and when he 
shows no signs of being hurt, you gently lay your palms on his face. You rub your fingers up and down his jawline. He lets his eyes shut. “I heard you asked about me.”
“Mhmm, I did.” Except it comes out as more of a question. It sounds like something he’d do, but he likely doesn’t remember it. You laugh softly, a tear rolling down your cheek. You quickly reach up to wipe it away.
“Kiss me.”
His eyes are open again. With a bite of your lip, your eyes flutter shut. It wouldn’t be right for you to kiss him. Not in this state. He’s still coming out of anesthesia.
“Here.” You lean forward to press a kiss to his forehead. Your lips linger, and he leans into your touch. “Ask me again later, okay?”
“Mmmkay.”
“Rest. Maddie will be back soon. She’s going to be so happy that you’re awake.”
A long pause of silence. You sit back down, hand returning to him. He firmly holds onto your hand, and you rub your thumb soothingly across his palm.
“Y/N.”
“Evan.”
“Thank you.”
You think back to earlier, Maddie pacing the length of the waiting room, doing her best to stay cool until she exploded. Maybe, deep in his mind, he knows that his parents aren’t coming. You swallow hard, leaning forward to stroke his cheek. 
“I’ll always be here, Evan.”

Love Me Anyways
Evan Buckley x Male Reader
A/N heads up, this is going to be a short one. i just wanted to write something small to get me back into the mood of writing. also, if this is the first thing of mine, you're reading, I am shitty with editing. It's currently 5am and I have had zero sleep. I'm really not in the mood to heavily edit this. this would be a continuation of what i believe would have happened after he got into that argument with his parents where he yelled love me anyways at his mom. also... can we take a moment for oliver stark's acting in that scene? insane. one last small thing, i might post a second part to this where his partner would do something very sentimental for him, in hopes to make up for the fact that his parents never made him a baby box... let me know if you would want that:) if you have any requests, please let me know!!

Y/N was just sitting on the couch, watching tv whenever he heard the front door start to unlock. Buck has a key to his house. So, it wasn't unusual that he would come over at random hours. Y/N is laid back, only in grey sweatpants. He's watching an old episode of The Walking Dead whenever he sees Buck come through the front door. He immediately picks up on the fact that Buck is not okay. He can see tears flowing down his face; this causes him to quickly sit up.
"Buck? What's wrong?" He asks in a panicked tone. Y/N knew that tonight, Buck was going to have dinner with Chimney, Maddie, and his parents.
Buck just shakes his head. He tries to take a deep breath to calm down, but he can't. A sad whimper slips past his lips.
A concerned look breaks out on Y/N's face. He lays back and opens his arms. He says in a soft tone, "Come here."
Buck walks over and lies down in his arms. His body goes directly on top of Y/N's. His arms go around Y/N's waist and his head goes onto his chest. The second Buck is in his arms, he breaks down.
Y/N wraps his arms around Buck's shoulders and holds him tight. His nose nuzzles into Buck's hair. He softly rubs his back and scratches the back of his head.
"I got you. Let it out, you're safe." Y/N whispers to Buck to try and calm him down.
Buck is a wreck. He just cries and cries into Y/N's chest for a few minutes before he finally starts to calm down.
Y/N quietly asks, "Can we talk about it now?"
Buck sighs. He tightens his arms around Y/N's waist tight and nuzzles his head against Y/N's large bicep.
"Dinner was a wreck. I apparently had an older brother that died. It's such a long story that I still don't even know all of the details to. It was kept a secret from me up until now. Maddie even knew... My parents got onto the topic of jobs. They mentioned the fact that they hear I'm in the hospital a lot. I got upset and said you hear, you never come though. Mom always makes up this bullshit excuse that she, "isn't good with hospitals." She was saying she can never come because she can't deal with seeing her children in hospitals. They move from the topic of jobs and dad breaks out a gift he brought Maddie for Jee. It was a baby box filled with her baby stuff. I get excited thinking, oh hey I'm going to get my own one day. Big shocker, my parents did not save any of my baby stuff. I lost it on them after that. I went on about how they just gave up on both of us then told them the reason I'm in therapy is because of them; because I was just a kid that wanted them to just love me anyways."
Y/N stays quiet for a moment then just hugs Buck even tighter. He has a hand on the back of his head. He quietly says, "You know you didn't deserve any of that, right? You were just a little boy that wanted his mother and father to actually look at him and simply love him. That does not make you the bad person."
Buck tenses up hearing Y/N's words. He feels his eyes start to tear up. He hides his face further into Y/N's chest.
Y/N continues speaking in a soft tone, "You are such a strong man, and I am so god damn proud to call you the man that I love. I have watched you grow so much from the little dorky himbo I knew ten years ago, to the strong, caring, smart, loving man you are today. it has been such a privilege to witness that."
Buck feels his body start to tremble as sobs break throughout his chest. He holds onto Y/N tightly with every fiber in his being. He says in broken sobs, "Do you mean that?"
Y/N nods with zero hesitation. He says in a soft tone, "I will repeat it every single day until the day I die, if I have to Buck."
Y/N softly runs his fingers through his hair and rubs his back. He keeps reassuring him in a soft loving voice, "I got you. You're safe. Let it all out."
There are quiet, genuinely sad whimpers slipping past Buck's lips.
Y/N just keeps consoling him, rubbing his back and kissing his temple till he calms down some. He softly sighs and hugs him tight. He says in a quiet voice, "I wish I could take your pain away baby. I do. I love you to the moon and back."
Buck feels beyond drained, mentally and physically, after the dinner and just finally letting out his feelings from it all. He yawns quietly into Y/N's chest.
Y/N smiles softly, caressing the back of his head. "Get some rest, my love. I'll be right here whenever you wake up."
Buck just melts into Y/N's hold and softly sighs.
It doesn't take long before Buck's dozing off.
It's in this moment that Buck realizes, he doesn't need the acceptance and love of others. The love Y/N has for him is bigger than Mount Everest stacked on every other mountain in the entire world. The safety and love he gets from hearing Y/N's heartbeat within this very moment tells him everything he needs to know. He has the one person who truly loves him for him, underneath him.

a/n: i realized that buck found out about daniel way later than i thought… my image was the dinner for buck begins, and then my dumb brain thought he knew abt daniel for a while 😭 just pretend he knew while you read :))
bucks mother and father somehow think that evan doesn’t remember everything they did. they think he doesn’t care about every scream, every argument, every neglectful moment between him and his sister. but, really, buck remembers all of it.
he loves his parents and he always has, but he doesn’t understand why they make it so hard to like them. he craved love and affection from them, only to be met with their hand in his face and their words in his mind. he knows all about grief, it makes you a different person. he feels awful for his parents, but he wishes they could deal with it better than leave him in the dust.
on a brighter side, buck was finally able to stop begging for adoration. when y/n came into that station, his entire purpose was changed around. he knew he was made for loving her, and he was finally accepted. buck finally felt smart, loved, important to someone.
y/n left a mark on buck from the moment they met. he could tell by her bubbly but confident personality that they’d fit together like stars in the sky. whenever y/n was around, he never once felt like he was asking for the compliments or love she showered him with. she looked genuinely proud to call him her boyfriend, and it melted the heart of the little kid inside of him that just wanted someone to tell him that he was important.
she gave him everything his parents never did and she never once complained. y/n have buck a definition of love, and when someone asked him what it meant, he’d say her name.
now, even years after they’ve been dating, y/n never once spoke to bucks parents. maddie had told them he was in a healthy, happy relationship, but they never cared to check in on him. the days had drastically changed, along with the life of his sister.
she’s becoming a mother, so their parents are becoming grandparents. y/n didn’t really think it would be a problem that they came to visit, until it quickly backfired.
buck quickly realized that they weren’t here for him, and they he barely existed in their book. he hoped that maybe he was overthinking it, but noticed the lack of care they had of his life and the severe amount of judgement in their words. it’s like when they walked in the door, buck felt like the small boy standing at the top of the stairs for his parents again, or the teenager sitting at the table taking every insult they had.
their parents pulled out maddie’s “baby box”, but they must’ve left bucks at home to collect dust, if there was even anything to leave. they crazed over maddies belly and the life she was carrying, praising her for the life she had built for herself. buck just sat there, just wanting to go home and lay in y/n’s arms and get his own comforting.
the night of the dinner came rapidly, buck critiquing everything about himself in the mirror before he went, perfecting his words and his appearance before y/n came grabbing his hand. “it’ll be ok.”
“i know, it’s just been so long and i don’t want them to be rude to you, too,” buck sighs, turning to face y/n.
“they don’t hurt me, you know that. i just don’t want you to get upset.”
“let’s get this over with, yeah? and then we can come home?”
“don’t have to tell me twice.”
y/n and buck arrived soon after his parents, seeing them stand from off the couch with his mothers hands clasped together in front of her. maddie pulls y/n into her grasp from not seeing her due to a busy schedule. chimney and buck hug casually, even though they’d just seen each other. he notices his parents standing there, looking at y/n as she cautiously steps over.
“oh, mom, dad, this is y/n,” buck tells them, his hand landing on her waist. “my girlfriend.”
“it’s nice to meet you guys.” y/n says, exchanging awkward glances with his parents. they nod politely.
“y/n, we got your favorite!” maddie grins, holding a bottle of wine in her hands and looking at it long-fully. y/n laughs, walking over to take the bottle from her as they converse.
“maddie, i’ll make the table for you, sweetie.” their mother says, grabbing plates and napkins for everyone as she starts placing them by the seats.
“here, mom, i’ll help you,” buck says, offering a hand to his mother as y/n stands besides his father.
“so, y/n,” the tall man with the glasses speaks. “what do you do for work?” he asks, sipping his beer.
“oh, i work at the fire station with b-evan and howie.” she remembers the little things, the dislike of nicknames and how buck and maddie never had one. y/n can see the slight disappointment in her fathers face, but can’t quite place why.
“i see.” he says, his voice raising slightly but she can tell he’s slightly unimpressed. y/n just keeps pouring wine into her glass. maddie can already sense the tension, silently cursing her dad for the reaction he had.
“dad.” maddie whispers so buck doesn’t hear.
“yes, maddie?” he questions back, not understanding his tone toward the woman besides him that he’s known for twenty minutes.
“nothing, it’s fine.”
“hey, honey,” buck whispers in y/n’s ear, placing his hands on the counter in front of him.
“hi! how are you feeling?”
“i’m fine, it’s only been like a half hour.”
“i know, just checking in.” she places a hand on his cheek, making maddie smile at the affection she has toward buck.
the food had eventually been delivered, and everyone sat around the table to finally eat. buck pulled out y/n’s chair, letting her sit and then taking the one next to her. chimney sat with maddie, and then their parents took the other end of the table.
the conversation turned almost immediately into the subject of work, maddie talking about some of her calls and chimney speaking about paramedic duties. it seemed they had no interest about buck, not finding much impression in the details about his job, despite it being one of the strongest.
“well, speaking of hospitals, i’ve heard that evan has been spending a lot of time in them.” bucks dad speaks up, placing his napkin folded on the table.
“you’ve heard?” buck mutters under his breath, not wanting to cause a scene but secretly hoping they heard it. y/n could feel the burning tension between buck and his parents, so she ran his hand over his thigh, trying to find his hand that rested near his knee before locking fingers with him. “you could’ve seen for yourself.”
“oh, evan you know how-“
“you don’t like hospitals, got that.”
“i don’t like seeing my children in them.” the womans eyes start to water, thinking back to all the horrific times in the hospital. maddie mumbles to her mother before shaking her head, bringing her moms statement to a close. “we never lost hope on you, evan.”
“yeah, like you did on maddie?” he snaps, leaning back in his seat and staring down his parents.
“evan, let’s not do this.” maddie says, the discomfort clear in her face as everyone’s heart races, fearing the conflict in the room.
“you guys didn’t even go to her wedding, let alone go back for her when she made a mistake and you cut her off!”
their parents barely look at buck. “maddie, we didn’t know he was hurting you, i swear-“
“you should have! you should’ve known, but it checks out because you never knew what was going on even when we was living with you!” he stands up.
“buck, c’mon,” y/n speaks, attempting his hand before he gets too far away. he manages to slip out of her grasp, leaving her to rest her head in her hands as he continues.
“you think my job is dangerous- i have walked through fire every single day of my life because of you. that is why i’m in therapy! because nothing i ever did was good enough!”
“we tried! you guys didn’t make it easy on us” their dad speaks up, making y/n shoot her head up at the older couple at the table next to her.
“we were supposed to? we were kids.” maddie says sadly.
so, buck stands there, begging for love in the center of the room, feeling like a circus act. if he didn’t know better, he’d think they’d all be pointing and laughing at him. besides one. y/n sat there, staring at his parents before looking back at him. she stands up, letting buck try and grab her hand and walk out. if he wants to leave, she will always follow him.
he opens the door, and he steps out, unable to hear the next sentence from his mother.
“neither of you think about how hard it is for your father and i! you only think about yourselves!”
y/n stops in her tracks, “buck, go wait by the car i’ll be out in a minute.” he just goes out, not wanting to waste another minute in that room that he could be spending alone with y/n. “only think about themselves?”
“what?” their mother whimpers out.
“you’re insinuating that you have selfish children, and it honestly checks out considered how much you’ve missed. did you forget what your kids do? did you forget about the lives they save on a daily basis? maddie is the reason half of our calls come out successfully, and buck is one of the highest ranked for his position. and you want to call him selfish? you don’t get to call him anything until you take an actual look at his life. you don’t see him walk out of these buildings with scared and hurt children or people yelling in pain and he can somehow manages to give them hope! you don’t see the effect you have on him and it honestly breaks my heart for him. you don’t see how you casually ripped him up and expected other people to put him back together. you don’t deserve to just come back here and act like you’re completely innocent! you sit here and act like you are angels. truth is that evan did everything on his own and didn’t deserve the shit he got from you. the person he is today has nothing to do with you and you don’t get any credit for how he became the man he is.”
y/n doesn’t stay long enough to see the effect of her words on his parents. she can imagine the tears from the confrontation that their mother can’t handle. it infuriates her that they think they can fix the damage they did in a day, if they even think they did any.
she storms down the stairs, eager to see buck outside and make up for all the loving he missed previously. she sees him leaning against y/n’s passenger door, staring at the concrete with his arms crossed. his hair is lightly blowing in the wind along with his sweater being pressed against his body. y/n can see the subtle shimmering in his eyes as he looks at the ground and she can almost hear the cracks in his heart. it’s like they managed to add another wound to him, just confirming that they didn’t care about him.
y/n steps on the cement sidewalk toward him, her heels clicking loudly against the ground so he could hear her coming. he doesn’t look up. he keeps his eyes glued to the ground in almost a shameful way. he hates that he can’t stand up to his parents, and he hates that y/n had to do it for him, but he needed it.
“let’s go home, baby.” y/n says, standing at the front of the car. “buck.” she speaks his name again, anger still radiating off her body as she waits for him to look up at him. his head tilts up, looking at her as her gaze softens at his expression. she doesn’t hesitate to walk over and grab onto him, letting his body fall into her, taking some of the weight off his shoulders.
“i know, it’s ok.” she whispers into his ear sweetly as the tears run down his face. he doesn’t want to be sobbing in the parking lot with in his girlfriends arms, but he can’t help it.
he doesn’t bother to say anything, he just lets himself feel. he lets himself feel her hand rubbing his back and the other wrapped around his shoulders. he lets himself listen to the gentle words escaping her lips and allow them to soothe his mind. he lets himself tower over her and almost fall into her grasp and he lets her take over. he knows that she has him, and the safety net beneath him was built by her.
he might not have his parents support or their faith through his life, but the surplus that y/n gives to him is enough to fill every ocean in the world.

At only 36 weeks pregnant, your daughter decided to make an early appearance, while it shocked the both of you, you were both happy with your healthy, tiny, baby girl, Celia Reign Buckley, you were both scared of it being rough but she has been nothing but a calm baby, whenever she was hungry her cries were never that loud and she wouldn’t cry for hours, when breastfeeding her, she was always gentle, she was never too rough with you For the past 2 months
That was until a few weeks ago, she started fussing a lot, crying more often, crying louder then usual, and here you were, holding a crying baby in your arms
The sun hasn’t even gone up yet and your daughter was crying her eyes out, you and Buck tried everything, you tried feeding her, changing her, singing her a song, yet nothing calmed her down
“Buck seriously go sleep you have work in the morning” you said, practically whispering while rocking your baby as you were afraid that any loud noise would make Celia cry even louder
“I’m not sleeping until she’s passed out” he sighed, his head thrown back as he pinched the bridge of his nose “here, give her to me”
You gently passed Celia to Buck and sat next to him and laid your head on his shoulder, he rested her head on his other shoulder as he patted her back with his hand while his other arm was below her bum, holding her closer to him if possible as he was slowly drifting
He didn’t pay attention to her cries slowly turning into whimpers, you gently nudged his elbow to grab his attention, when he opened his eyes he noticed his daughter practically clinging to his shirt, the side of her face pressed up against his chest and her thumb inside her mouth, sucking on it as if it was her pacifier, you both smiled at the sight of her your hand came up to gently replaced her thumb with her pacifier and stroked her cheek with your thumb “she’s definitely going to have your personality”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He said while looking at you acting like he was offended
“I mean come on Buck, you literally cuddle me at any give time you have, I’m not surprised she got this from you, I’m just surprised she’s getting it now” he couldn’t help but roll his eyes at you while you quietly chuckled and laid you head on his shoulder once again as you started to drift off on the couch with the both of them next to you

In the morning you were woken up to the smell of coffee, you realized that you were now laying down on the couch with your daughter on your chest still asleep, you kissed her forehead before gently sitting up and walking to the kitchen, still holding on to Celia
“Morning” your voice was still filled with sleep as you sat on one of the stools in the kitchen
Buck walked over to you with one cup of coffee in his hand and a glass of water in the other, placing them both down, he placed a kiss on your lips but was shortly interrupted as Celia started to stir and fuss “looks like someone’s waking up”
She shortly opened her eyes and it didn’t take long before she her soft cries filled the room, indicating that she was ready for her breakfast
Her cries didn’t last long as you adjusted her body against your breast so she could eat, kissing her tiny knuckles as she starting eating
“I called work and told them I won’t be able to come today and thought we could maybe spend the entire day together you know, just the three of us” Buck said, breaking the silence that was often broken by the sound of Celia eating
“That sound nice” a smile was plastered on your face as you looked at Buck, he nodded as he took one last sip of coffee, he placed the empty cup in the sink and kissing your lips one last time and kissing Celia’s forehead before sitting next to you on another stool
You both watch in awe as your daughter ate, her eyes were wide open, looking at the both of you with her blue eyes that get got from her father, her beautiful Y/C/H hair that was slowing growing on her head, she was a beautiful mix of the both of you and you couldn’t feel more proud about it

A/N: Guys I do not have a child (I do have 4 siblings, and I am the oldest), and I have never had any children. I tried to steer clear of things that might be wrong, and I did do some research, but I mostly just tried to stay in the emotional range of things. So, if I said something wrong you could tell me, if you want (because I would love to know for next time) but please don’t get mad. I really tried my best.
P.S. If you see the name Harley, it was the original name for the couple’s child, but I thought Lana would work best. So…

Buck and Y/N were so happy when they learned Y/N was pregnant. The thoughts of their little "mini-me" ambushed their minds and became the focus of the last 9 months. They did everything a new parent would do before bringing their child into the world. They experimented with names, constantly argued over what the gender was, get excited over every photo of the ultrasound, and they even hosted a baby shower, inviting everyone they loved.
But it seemed that they were so caught up in all the fun stuff about being a parent that they didn't focus on the hardships of being a parent. Lana Buckley was born naturally at about a foot and a half tall and 8 lbs big. She was born perfectly healthy, and everything had seemed fine until Buck had to go back to work.
When Buck went back to work, it seemed like the child Y/N had birthed was a completely different person. Lana refused to eat, sleep, and she cried all day and night. But as soon as Buck got her in her arms, she was the sweet and calm baby the two knew.
This brought major discomfort to Y/N. She couldn't get near her child without her screaming. It made her ask herself, "Is it me?" When Buck would come home, Lana would fall asleep peacefully in his arms, and Y/N watched in despair.
One day, Buck had gone back to work. When Y/N woke up without her boyfriend in the bed next to her, she started her day. She cleaned the house and made breakfast before Lana's cries echoed through the apartment. Y/N walked back upstairs and grabbed her child before bringing her downstairs to make her a bottle. Y/N gently placed the bottle in Lana's mouth, hoping for the infant to gulp it down like she did for Buck, but it only made the baby cry louder.
"What? You don't want the bottle?" Y/N asked her daughter. When the child didn't respond, Y/N looked down at her chest and took a deep breath.

After getting Lana to eat, Lana didn't cry as much, but she still cried. Sure, if she was hungry or needed her diaper changed, she cried, but if Y/N placed her down to go pee, she would cry. If Y/N didn't give her enough attention because she was watching tv or random videos on her phone, she would cry. And worst of all was when she cried for no reason. It seemed like everything she did, made Lana cry.
Y/N had finally gotten Lana asleep after 3 hours of nonstop crying. She carefully bent down and placed the tiny infant into her crib, trying her best not to wake her. When she stood back up, she stretched her upper body with a soft groan and made her way to her bed where she softly plopped down and released an exhausted groan. She quietly prayed for Buck to come home soon since it seemed that he was the "Lana expert". But it seemed that her prayer wasn't answered as Lana began to cry again, and no one was home to put the infant back to sleep, except for her.
Y/N felt herself tear up as she lay face up in her bed. She stared up at the ceiling, listening to the wails of her daughter. Her failure to keep her daughter quiet made her begin to doubt herself as a mother. It was sad to think that after 9 months of excitement, she was now questioning her readiness to be a mother. That and her pounding headache from the noise and slight sleep deprivation brought the girl into a slight depression.
Y/N's thoughts were soon cut off by a loud knock from the front door. Lana had yet to stop crying, which made getting up to answer the door much harder. With a groan, Y/N sat up in her shared bed and rubbed the tiredness from her eyes. She shuffled her feet, across the wooden floors, over to Lana’s crib and picked up the infant.
A sharp pain spread through her body as she held the infant in her arms. She hadn’t completely recovered from giving birth, seeing as it hadn't even been a month yet, and because of Harley, she hadn’t had time to relax, leading to headaches and random bursts of pain in her back, legs, and arms. She was tired, to say the least, and found herself ready to kill to get some shut-eye.
Another knock erupted from the door. “Okay, I’m coming!” Y/N yelled over the screams of her child. With a tired sigh, she went down the steps and over to the door. Lana still cried in her arms, so Y/N began patting her back softly as she whispered calming noises into her ear. It helped the situation a little bit, by calming down the cries, but it didn't stop them. She opened the door to find none other than her mother waiting at the door with her dark-shaded sunglasses.
Y/N hadn't talked to her mother since she announced her pregnancy. Y/N grew up wealthy due to her father's family's long history of wealth. And her mom... Let's just say that the money was the reason she stayed. So, when her mother discovered that her daughter was to inherit her father's small fortune, her mother suddenly began to care for her well-being.
Her mother chased every man in Y/N's life away due to her obnoxious judging and rude comments. Y/M/N would claim that they were only with her for the money. So, when she announced her pregnancy, you know her mother wasn't happy.
But unlike her mother, Y/N didn't care about money. She loved Evan and didn't need his money to feel that way. And when her mother began harassing Buck, she knew it was time for her to go. So, Y/N cut her mother off, and much like the cockroach that she is, she was back. Probably broke up with her wealthy boyfriend and is in need of cash.
“Mom?” Y/N asked, surprised as she bounced a screaming Lana in her arms.
Her mother snatched off her shades and said, “Yes, it is me. After you rudely blocked me from your life, I became concerned. So, here I am to check up on you.” Y/N rolled her eyes at all the bull shit from her mother’s mouth. “I would have been here sooner if I knew my precious grand-baby was here already.” Y/N scoffed as her mother pushed past her and entered their apartment.
She walked over to the kitchen island, showing off a small gift bag that hung on her arm. "I brought gifts," Y/M/N said, placing the gift bag on the marble surface.
'Gifts?' Y/N asked herself. "Hmm, maybe she doesn't need money."
“Well, mom, to be honest, I didn’t think I could take 9 months of your kind words... I’m still not ready for them. And before you come in here, flaunting your unearned money, I think you owe Evan an apology.” I said, closing the door and walking into the kitchen.
“I don’t know what you mean. If this is about the last time, I was just trying to help,” she defensively said.
Y/N rolled my eyes and glared at her mother. “I don’t think that saying that Buck would be a terrible father and then telling me to tell him the baby wasn't his was very helpful,” She retorted.
“He wasn’t prepared to be a father, and he still isn't. He's a childish buffoon, and now it seems like he’s a deadbeat.”
“Buck is not a deadbeat. You know nothing about it,” Y/N spoke, defending Buck to her mother.
“Look around, Y/N. You are holding a newborn baby who hasn't stopped crying since you open the door. I mean, come on, sweetheart. You look terrible. Have you been getting any sleep? And where is Evan?” She asked, raising her eyebrow as she gave her daughter a stern look. Y/N scoffed at her mother's words.
“Buck is a good- no- a great father who works 24-hour shifts. He’s a firefighter, ma,” Y/N said, putting emphasis on the "great" part. She began to become frustrated with her mother as her judgmental side began to express itself.
“Now, why is that man working when he has a newborn baby and a sleep-deprived girlfriend at home?”
“Because unlike you, mother, we have bills. And there is no rich second party to pay for those bills,” Y/N said.
My mother’s eyes followed me as she said, “You have your father's money. Does Buck even know about your trust fund?"
"Yes, mom," Y/N said with an aggravated sigh. "He knows, and we both agreed that we're going to use that money to better Harley's life. But we're not going to quit our jobs for it. Buck is better than that. He's not you," She finished.
"Is that any way to talk to a guest- better yet- your mother?" Y/M/N asked, offended at her daughter's words.
Y/N's brain was trying to process all of her emotions, but it all overloaded her brain. Between the constant crying from Harley and the nagging from her mother, Y/N was fed up. "Hmm, let me think..." She began to act like she was thinking before answering her mother, "You're more like an unwanted guest. A party crasher. No one asked for you to be here, and I would love it if you left."
"What is the matter with you?" Y/M/N asked, now confused by her daughter's random outburst.
“My issue? You want to know what is wrong with me, mother? You’re what’s wrong with me. You treat me like shit, yet you have the nerve to put your two cents into my life. You’ve never cared about me. You only began to care when dad died and left me his fortune. In my opinion, you’re a gold-digging, 2-timing slut who can’t stand to see anyone but herself happy.” Y/N snapped, and suddenly, everything went quiet. No nagging from her mother. No screaming from her daughter. Y/N’s breath turned heavy as she let out all the pent-up tiredness and anger she had been feeling this last week, and the tears running down her face made her feel as if she was drowning in a pool of her own misfortune.
“I just wanted what’s best for you,” her mother said, releasing a tear to roll down her face. The way her mother spoke as if she cared made Y/N feel like her mother was blind to how her actions made her daughter feel. What her words did to her. Her life was like a broken record when she was around her mother, and she couldn't have that for her daughter. She never wanted Lana to feel the way she did, growing up.
“I think you should go,” Y/N whispered, laying Lana’s head down on her shoulder. Y/N's mother just stood there, wide-eyed with her mouth hung open.
The sound of keys entering the keyhole lock sounded in the kitchen as the door opened, revealing Evan. He walked in, confused, seeing his girlfriend upset with Lana in my arms, crying, and Y/N's mother standing across from her, shocked. “What’s going on?” Buck said, dropping his ‘LAFD’ duffel bag on the ground next to the door.
Y/M/N angrily grabbed her purse before giving her daughter one last look. “Nothing. I was just leaving,” she said, storming out of the apartment and slamming the door on her way out.
Buck looked at his girlfriend, and he pointed at the closed door. Y/N rolled her eyes and waved her mother's actions off as she began to make Lana a bottle. Buck came up behind her and kissed both Y/N's and Lana's foreheads. He then held Y/N as he slowly swayed the girls in his arms.
“Hey,” Buck said, turning her head to face him. “It’s okay. You’re okay. Whatever she told you is not true,” he said, pulling me into his chest.
“I don’t think I’m fit to be a mother,” Y/N mumbled into Buck’s shirt.
Buck's face scrunched up in confusion as he simply moved the girl away from his chest. With a finger, he moved her head up to face him. Buck scoffed and shook his head as he softly whispered, “Babe, what are you talking about? You’re an amazing mother.”
Y/N shook my head ‘no.' She didn't believe Buck's words. How could she? She only felt that way because of how Lana acted when he wasn't around. He wouldn't have any idea of what she was going through.
"Of course you are. You just need to sleep. Your hormones are regulating, and I know I haven't been home, but I'm here now. Let me take some things off your hands," Buck said, taking Lana out of Y/N's arms and into his. "Go take a nap, okay? I got this," Buck said, motioning to the upstairs area with his free hand.
Y/N knew that a nap wouldn't change how she felt about the situation, but she was tired from all the crying, so she did as Buck instructed and made her way upstairs.
Buck heard every sad sigh and sniffle from the girl as she walked up the steps. It hurt him to see how much pain Y/N was going through. He had seen how she was with Danny, Chris, and Jee. And that's how Buck knew she was a fantastic caregiver. He just needed to find some way to show her that she was still a good caregiver, but he didn't know how.

While Y/N got the rest she needed, Buck was downstairs taking care of Lana. He picked up the bottle that Y/N had made earlier, and he carefully placed it into Harley's mouth. Lana began to suck on the bottle. Buck chuckled as he watched the infant chug down the milk. "Yeah, you like that, huh?" He asked. And within 30 seconds, she was already a fourth done.
"Someone was hungry," Buck said as Lana began to slow down. Buck moved away from the kitchen and made his way into the living room with Lana still in his arms, sucking on her bottle. He looked down at his daughter, who stared up at him with her beautiful Y/E/C eyes as her small arms clutched the bottle. Buck couldn't help but see Y/N whenever he looked at his child.
He smiled as he studied the child's face. He began to notice that the baby had Y/N's smile and her nose that Buck loved to boop when they played around. His smile brightened as he noticed the mixture between his and Y/N's eyes. Lana had Buck's eye shape, but she carried the color that made Buck lose himself when he looked into Y/N's.
Like always, whenever Lana finished her bottle, she struggled to keep her eyes open. Buck removed the bottle, and her mouth opened wide as she let out a yawn. "Huh, I guess mommy wasn't the only one that's sleepy," Buck said before moving himself off the couch.
He made his way upstairs, with Lana on the brink of falling asleep. He walked over to Lana's crib before turning to look at his girlfriend. He looked at her with a sad smile before turning back to place a now sleep Lana into her crib.
"There you go," Buck whispered to the sleeping child. "Was that so bad? Why can't you do this for mommy?" He asked, earning no response, only the sound of soft snores. "You know your mommy loves you. She's just having a hard time. This is new for all of us. She's just taking it harder than everyone else."
Buck looked down at his daughter with a frown. He let out a sad sigh before making his way to the shower. But before anything, he made his way to his bed, leaning over, and placing a kiss on Y/N's temple.

The 118 sat back and relaxed while waiting for Bobby's special dinner. Bobby had put together a little celebratory dinner for the newest edition in the Buckley family, to which Chimney responded with, "Where was my celebratory dinner, Cap?" Everyone laughed at Chimney, thinking he was joking, but he was still a little hurt by it.
"No one thought that Buck would ever make it this far into a relationship," Hen joked, earning an eye roll from Buck.
While Bobby cooked, Eddie, Chimney, Hen, and Buck all sat together on the upper-level couches. They sat back and relaxed as the four of them joked around with each other and shared about their time away from work like they normally did during their free time.
"I don't know," Eddie said, looking down, in thought. "Chris and I have always been able to talk to each other, but now he's secretive. He doesn't tell me anything. We don't play together as much anymore. And not to mention, he's never home. Where does he even go?"
"Um, I think him and Y/N have been hanging together. Before she had the baby, I caught the two of them just hanging out together, but if it's recent, I don't know," Buck said with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Ah," Eddie responded with a nod of his head.
"So, what's been going on with you, Buck-a-roo?" Chimney asked. Everyone turned to Buck, waiting for a response.
Buck shrugged his shoulders, not knowing what to say. Before answering Chimney, he thought for a second, "Y/N's been doubting being a mother."
Chimney looked around the firehouse. It seemed he was searching for something. "What are you doing?" Hen asked as everyone began to look up at Chimney with confused looks.
"I'm looking for a small infant that resembles a mixture of Buck and Y/N. I love your sister, Buck, but raising a baby while looking for the mother of your child can be stressful. Take it from the man who toured the country while documenting his daughter's firsts in different states," Chimney said.
"Y/N wouldn't do that," Buck paused. "She's just so stressed with everything, and it doesn't help that both Lana and her mother have been stressing her out lately. I came home the other day, and she was crying. Her mother had just left and Lana hadn't stopped crying until I got ahold of her. Not to mention, she looked like she was about to pass out. I love Y/N and I hate seeing her struggle. I know she's a good mother, but I just don't know how to show her," Buck said to his coworkers.
"Do you think Y/N and Lana have trouble bonding?" Eddie asked, leaning forward in his seat. Buck shrugged once more.
"Well, take it from me. When your child doesn't want to bond with you, it really does take a toll on you. And I understand that Chris is getting older, and that's what kids do when they get older, but Lana is dependent on you and Y/N, and for her to not want Y/N's help make be what's upsetting her," Eddie said.
"But how do I help them bond?"
"You seem to get along great with Lana. Give them some time together. Lana will one day realize that she needs her mother, and she'll allow her mother into her life," Hen said with a calming tone.
"Yeah, and if it gets too hard for her, guide her through it. You know what Lana likes. Instead of taking Lana from Y/N, suggest something that might help. But I have faith in Y/N," Chimney suggested.

Y/n walked into her apartment with Lana's car seat in one arm and groceries in the other. She struggled as she waddled to the kitchen, placing the car seat on the counter before setting the groceries on the floor. Y/N let out a sigh of relief as the release of the pressure took over her.
Lana began crying; luckily, it wasn't as loud as the other day. Y/N unbuckled Lana and pulled her up to her chest. She began to pat the baby's back as she tried to calm her down with some calming noises. But Lana didn't stop.
"Oh, no. Not again," Y/N muttered to herself, as she was now bouncing the child in her arms.
Just as Y/N was about to give up. Buck came back in from his run. "Hey, babe," Buck said, taking out his earbuds. Buck lightly jogged over to the two, kissing both of them on the head. "Why is it that whenever I come home, you're always crying?" Buck asked his daughter.
Instead of a response from Lana, Buck receives one from Y/N. "I don't know why she's crying. I fed her in the car. I changed her at the store. She's had a nap. I don't think she likes me, Buck," Y/N began to pout.
"She likes you. Crying is just a thing that babies do,” Buck said, trying to reassure his girlfriend. Y/N sighed, looking down. She didn't feel that the reason for Lana's constant crying was because it was natural. Sure, crying is natural for babies, but it felt like Lana never stops crying whenever the two are together, by themselves.
"I'm going to take a quick shower, and when I get out, we can make lunch and go for a walk or something," Buck said. He kissed Y/N's temple before he began to walk away. But he stopped when he heard Y/N begin to speak again. He turned around, looking at the girl as she spoke.
"But what am I supposed to do about her?" Y/N pouted as Lana cried against her chest.
Buck shrugged. "Try soothing her. You're a great singer. Try singing her a lullaby," Buck said as he made his way into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.
Y/N took a deep breath, looking down at her daughter, who seemed to be in distress, with worried eyes. She decided to take Buck's advice. She had also seen other mothers do it with their children when she was out in public. It seemed to work then, so why not now? "Shh... It's all going to be okay." Y/N rocked the baby as she whispered some calming words into her daughter's ear. Her words seemed to work since the girl had stopped crying.
Lana stared up at her mother, emotionless. Y/N smiled at her daughter as a soft tear rolled down her face. She was happy. She had finally made progress with her daughter. Lana began to coo in her ear, making Y/N laugh in excitement. Y/N slowly swayed the girl around in her arms as she hummed the words to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star. How I wonder what you are.
Y/N repeated it a couple more times before hearing a small laugh from the child in her arms. "You like that?" Y/N asked Lana as she laughed some more. Y/N sang it once more, but this time she danced around the room with Lana in her arms.
Unknowingly, Buck had been watching the whole thing from the bathroom. He had yet to get into the shower, but when he heard the harmonious sound of his girlfriend's voice, he couldn't help but see what was happening. So, he slowly cracked the door open, careful not to interrupt, and he watched.
Every time she sang the song with a smile, Buck's smile got even wider. His advice from his friends worked. He helped Y/N out, but he didn't take over. He just hoped that it could always be like this.
When Y/N was done singing, she began tickling the child earning bursts of loud laughter. Buck took this as a good sign and returned to his shower.
When he got out, Buck left the bathroom, dressed, and ready to go on a walk. He had on a grey tank top and black workout shorts. As he left the steamy room he was met with Y/N kneeling infront of a stroller, snapping Lana into it. Both wore jean shorts but Y/N wore a teal crop top, and Lana had on a pink shirt that read 'Princess' in gold letters and matching shades.
"Are you ready to go?" Y/N asked Lana in her baby voice. Lana laughed, making Y/N clap her hands as she copied her daughter's actions.
Buck cleared his throat, getting Y/N's attention. Y/N looked over at Buck with a slight jump, scared from not noticing Buck. She shyly looked away, embarrassed.
"So, you too made up?" Buck asked with a knowing smirk.
Rolling her eyes, Y/N responded, "Yes. In fact, you were right. Babies are known for crying; all she needed was to be soothed." Buck enjoyed the beaming smile on her face as she said that.
"Huh."
"Yep, I sang a little toon, and from then on, I hadn't heard a peep. We got dressed, and now, here we are," Y/N said happily.
"Well, that's good... Shall we get going?" Buck asked, pointing over to the door. Y/N nodded in response, getting up off the ground. Buck moved to grab the stroller, and the happy couple happily made their way out of the house with their newborn for a nice afternoon walk.

Hi I was wondering if I could request Evan Buckley x Nash-Grant!reader. (Y/N is Bobby’s biological daughter and adopted by Athena when Bobby and Athena get married), Buck and Y/N are dating for years and are very happy together until Buck decides to sue the city, she then breaks up with him and hates Buck. Anytime they see each other she either flips him off or completely ignores him. When he comes back and everyone forgives him, she doesn’t. A couple of weeks later, Y/N is involved in a car accident and the 118 respond, then in the hospital they get back together. Thanks (sorry it’s long!) ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
 Ever since your Dad married Athena she welcomed you into the house with open arms. She even adopted you. But sense you were over 18 it wasn’t a legal thing just a family thing.
 She was always there for you. Making you a member of the family. Even May and Harry called you there sister.
Something that was big in the house was Sunday dinner. It was the most important time of the week. For everyone to come together and connect with one another.
Sunday Dinner’s looked at lot more differently lately. 
There used to be more people here now there just seems like there is something missing. I mean I know something is missing it just hurts.
You loved Buck you really did he was amazing and kind and would always take really good care of you no matter what.
 Late night conversations were the best. He knew so much about you and you did about him. The two of you were maybe talking about marriage and kids and starting a life together.
Of course everyone had their relationship problems. Buck wasn’t an angel and this last move he proved that.
 He always just did things without thinking. He would just go and never take a minute and see other options. Sometimes you loved him for it but this was just a curse at this point.
You couldn’t believe that he would and go and sue the 118 and the city was involved. Now your parents were involved in this and it was just something you couldn’t let go. It always made you so angry. How could he hurt his family like this.
You tried and talk to him about to just drop the case but he refused. He always said it wasn’t fair he was fired and now he has nothing left.
 Which hurt I mean you knew it was his career but he still had you and that wasn’t going to change. But Buck being Buck he didn’t care. It was something he wanted so everyone else be dammed.
You decided to end things. The lawsuit and this whole he didn’t give a damn attitude you were completely over it.
 It was just time to move on. It hurt because you just felt like years of your life were just gone. The building just collapsed in.
You cut him off completely decided why even bother he didn’t give a damn so why should you.
 He tried calling you or knocking on your door but you just ignored him. You saw him a few times at the 118 but he always just got the finger. The unspoken communication that screamed so loud.
So Sunday dinner was at the 118 today your dad had to work so your mom decided to bring dinner over. 
You didn’t want to go and thought maybe you should just stay home. Athena made it very clear that there was no chance in hell of that happening.
So you went to dinner and of course Buck was there. He came back to work and everyone welcomed him back with open arms. 
Your dad tried to talk to you to tell you to at least forgive him and talk to him but again in the wise words of your mom there was no chance in hell of that happening.
So when you got to the 118 you just stayed in the background sitting with your dad in the Kitchen
. It was still weird there. No one really knew what to say to you. It was like it they talked to you they felt like they were turning there back on Buck and vise versa.
So Sunday dinner was so awkward. No one really saying anything and the dinner was silent and it felt so long.
 You just wanted to run out and leave. But Athena was giving you the don’t you dare look. You knew it was important to her so you tried to behave.
After dinner you helped clean up and Buck came up behind you in the kitchen
“Y/N I need to talk to you I’m sorry Okay I never meant to hurt you I love you”. He pleaded.
“Fuck off Buck.” You said and walked away telling Athena it was time to and she agreed. She knew how you was feeling so she didn’t fight it.
A couple of weeks had passed sense then. Buck wouldn’t leave you alone calls and text but you just ignored them all.
It was late one night and you decided to go for a late night target run. It always made you feel better and this time did just the trick.
You were on your way back to your apartment when suddenly all you saw was these big bright lights and a loud horn blaring.
You don’t remember much of what happened you were in and out of consciousness
. You think you heard your dad but you were just so sleepy but then you felt someone grab your hand and you mustered enough strength to look and see and it was Buck.
He looked so worried at you. He looked like he was on the verge of tears and you didn’t realize everything that was going on. He just squeezed your hand and told you it was going to be okay. You weren’t alone.
You heard your dad commanding orders and telling everyone what to do. You could also hear the panic in his voice and it broke your heart.
You must have passed out because next thing you know you were in the hospital. The lights were so bright the smell was gross.
You didn’t open your eyes just yet because it seemed like it was so much work at the moment. So you just sat there and tried to muster up the energy to do so.
When you finally did you slowly opened up your eyes and looked around. Buck was sitting next to you holding your hand. Your mom and dad on the other side.
They all 3 jumped up and looked at you with wide eyes.
“Omg Y/N are you okay.” Buck asked
“I’m so glad your okay you’re here baby girl your going to be just fine”. Athena said.
“What happened.” You asked
“You don’t remember you were in a car accident. Earlier tonight ” He said
“We all been so worried about you.” Buck said
You didn’t say anything just sat there taking in what they said. Bobby and Athena both excused themselves and walked out the room.
“I’m sorry I know were not together anymore I was just so worried about you.” Buck said.
He looked so cute sitting there. If you were being honest with yourself you were glad he was there even though you did hate him you also still loved him.
“It’s okay I’m glad you here.” You said grabbing his hand.
“I just want to say how sorry I am. I never meant to hurt you I love you and I promise that I’m going to do right by you if you give me another chance.” Buck pleaded his case.
“I love you to and I want that Buck I want us to be together and to be happy and be like before but sometimes you just do things and you don’t think and that is what hurts.” You said
“I Know I wish I could just take it back but I’ve been going to therapy and I am trying to be better. The person you deserve.” He said looking up at you and crying.
“ come here.” You said gesturing up to him.
He came close to you and you leaned up and kissed him and he kissed you back.
“I’m happy your getting help I want to give this another chance that it deserves.” You said
Buck leaned in and kissed you again and you could feel the smile on his face.
A few days had passed sense then and everyone was happy for you guys and Eddie said he was exceptionally happy he didn’t have to deal with sad Buck anymore.
Buck came back to Sunday dinner, and it felt like that missing part was whole again because this time the whole family was there with each other.

Senior Year Of High School. 
 Evan Buckley, certified jock and bad boy. 
He was the type of guy that only had a soft spot for you, but you didn’t know that yet. Truthfully he wasn’t a mean guy - people just perceived him that way because he was on the football team and popular. He had somewhat of a troublesome reputation.
People knew where he went, trouble followed. 
You, on the other hand, came from a somewhat above average family. Your mom’s a nurse and dad’s a lawyer. They always had big hopes and dreams for you, for you to go off to Harvard in the fall and follow in your father’s footsteps but you didn’t want that. 
You dreamt of being a writer - you couldn't bring yourself to tell your parents that. Since you were young, they had instilled “you’re going to go to Harvard” in you. 
You couldn’t back out now. 
See, high school worked a certain way. You kept to your circles and didn’t mingle with those that didn’t fit into your circle. You and Evan didn’t run in the same circle - he was a troublesome jock and you were a smart preppy girl. 
Being the preppy kid meant volunteering where you could to bulk up your college application hence why you were at school on a Friday afternoon, waiting for the kids to show up. You were part of some tutor program that your chemistry teacher put you into. 
It was mostly just kids that needed some clarification on their work and the occasional jock that needed to pass a course to stay on the team.
You weren't surprised when a group of noisy jocks stumbled in the study hall, reeking of sweat from practice.  
You were surprised to see Evan, he hadn't been in there before. 
“Settle down boys” Mrs. Jacobs told them before sending each guy off to a tutor, leaving Evan standing beside her. “You can head over to y/n” she pointed at you, you gave him a small smile when you glanced up. He looked unpleasant, like he didn’t want to be there. 
He made his way over nonetheless. “Good afternoon” you say quietly, unsure if he heard you. He grumbles a hello as he sits down. 
The first few minutes, it was quiet. He sat there flipping through his textbook and scribbling down answers into the notebook in front of him. 
“Is there anything I can help you-” “I'm not stupid.” 
You glance at him, eyes catching his blue ones looking back at you. “I never said you were.” 
“I'm only here because I didn’t turn in my mid term project and now stupid Mr. Jefferson thinks I don't understand this shit” he explains himself. 
You hum, glancing down at the notebook in front of him, pulling it towards you. Reading over the sheet, all the answers were right. A hum of satisfaction slips pass your lips as you slide the notebook back over to him. 
“Not just another dumb jock then.” your eyes study his face after the statement. His lips curl into a small smile, a hum as he turns his attention back to his paper. 
“So prep life must be dull - no parties, all study.” 
“Who says prep kids don't party ?” 
He chuckles, “maybe the lack of prep kids at the parties.” “I’ll have you know, I party plenty, Evan.” 
Once again, he chuckles. “The phrasing of that statement shows that you clearly don’t- but call me Buck, all the guys do.” he slides the notebook over to you. 
“Check this over, I'll be back” you watched as he stepped out of the study hall and disappeared into the hallway. 
A few minutes pass by, you’re tired and in need of a nap but you blink away the tiredness to read his work. There’s a voice behind you and then you feel something heavy on your chair. Leaning back to figure out what it was, the back of your head hit something hard. You shift in your seat and look up to see your head has hit Buck’s torso. 
“How's the work, peach ?” his voice is low, the drop in octave from before causes butterflies in your stomach. 
Your brows furrow at the nickname, he noticed your confusion and glances down at your top and your eyes follow his only to see that your peach colour bra was sticking out from the top of your shirt. 
You had stretched back into your seat when he stepped out and you hadn't noticed the shift in your clothing.
Pulling the top of your shirt back up, he smiles and returns to his seat. You clear your throat, head down and eyes on the work in front of you as you could feel the blush on your face. 
“Um, the work is fine.” 
“Do you have plans tonight ?” 
“No, why?” 
“Come with me to Johnson’s party, you can show me how prep kids party” he smiles, his words are teasing you- taunting you even. “I would, but my parents are out of town so I don’t have the car and I have to watch the house.” 
“The house won’t disappear if you’re gone for a few hours and I'll pick you up then. What’s your address ?” 
“Buck, I really shouldn't” 
“Y/n, come on. Pull the stick out your ass for one night and enjoy senior year. You can go back to Harvard prep tomorrow.” 
His word choice doesn't shock you, it’s quite on brand for him. He’s looking at you, waiting for your answer and you can't help but give in.
Taking the pen from him, you scribble your address and number on his notebook. “See you at 7?” picking your bag up before slinging it over your shoulder. 
“7? Peach, the party doesn’t start ‘till 9. I’ll pick you up at 10:30.” 
“Oh um- okay.” you hum, confused but you agree anyways.

10:45 and you were sitting on your couch, glancing at your phone and back to the window. 
You had been stood up once before but to be stood up by a jock, and a popular one ? Will be the death of any social life you had. 
Finally there’s a knock on your door and you get up a little faster than you would have liked but you make your way over. Pulling it open, you met with Buck. 
“Ready ?” 
“Sure, let me grab my phone” you leave the door open, stepping back to the couch. Buck had disappeared from the doorway when you returned, you locked up and followed what looked like headlights to the driveway. 
Buck sat on his bike, he scoots forwards a bit before patting the space behind him. 
“No.” you mumble. 
“What ?” 
“I’m not getting on that thing.” 
“That thing ? I'm offended. Come on, you’ll be fine.” 
“Evan, no.” 
Buck gets up, making his way over to you. His hands grab yours, looking at you now. “Y/n, I promise you that you’ll be fine. Can we go now ?” 
“I’ll kill you if something happens to you” you grumbled as you reluctantly made your way over to the bike. Buck gets on first, you mirror his actions. Your hands were to your side, Buck reached back and wrapped them around his waist. 
“You good back there ?” 
“As good as I could be.”

The house, who you assumed belonged to Johnson’s parents, (you had no idea who Johnson was because you barely ever went to the football games) reeked of alcohol and weed. 
Your face didn’t hide your displeasure as well as you thought it had. Buck chuckled as he slung his arm over your shoulder. 
“So is this what you do ?” you shout over the loud music, Buck was saying hello to someone he knew and wasn't paying attention to what you had asked him. 
You manage to wiggle your way out of his grip and find your way to the kitchen. It’s a few minutes later that Buck finds you sipping on a beer. 
“You drink ?” he gives you a questionable look with a smile on his face. 
“You brought me to a party so I'll do what people do at a party” you hum, leaning back against the counter. He finds his way to you, leaning back against the counter too. 
“Enjoying the party ?” 
“Not really, you kinda left me to talk to some guy for twenty minutes” 
“That guy happens to be our star quarterback.” 
“I care why?” you glance up at him. Buck’s face is pure amusement, you aren't sure if you’re the cause of that or something else but the way he's looking at you- you can feel the butterflies again. 
“Buck!” a group of guys shout as they make their way into the kitchen. They all say hello to him, some are drinking, some are shoving chips into their mouths. 
You stay quiet while Buck talks to them and judging by their varsity jackets, it was safe to assume that they were on the team with Buck. 
“Who’s your friend ?” a brunette guy asks him, stepping towards you. 
“I’m y/n, you are?” you ask before Buck could. 
“Mike, call me Johnson.” 
“Oh, so this is your place ? Cute house” you give him a smile, he laughs. 
“How do you know Buck?” Johnson asks, he was nosy for a drunk guy. 
“Just bumped into each other, we have class together” you lie, not sure if Buck wanted them to know how you really met, Buck gives you a small smile. 
“You’re pretty, how about a dance ?” his hand grabs yours. 
“Thanks but no thanks” you give a polite smile before pulling your hand away. 
Johnson takes a step forward, his hand reaching out and grabbing your hip. “C’mon, dance with me” you could smell the alcohol on him- he reeked. You push his hand off, “I said no thank you” you tell him once more, being ever so polite. 
“Y/n, c’mon, one dance baby” he takes another step, he’s now face to face with you. Before you could say anything, Buck is in front of you, between you and Johnson. 
“Dude, she said no. Leave her alone.” 
Buck’s sudden need to protect you was much appreciated. Usually if a guy did that, especially a jock, you’d be weird out because they never pay attention to you- but Buck, you had this indescribable feeling, pride, satisfaction, maybe even relief ? 
“She’s not even your girl, why are you protecting her?” 
“Doesn’t matter, she said no so get out of her fucking face.” Buck’s hand was against his chest, pushing him away as his other hand reached back for yours. It would be cheesy to say that your hand fit in his like it was made to be there but it was true. 
Buck’s hand was still in yours as he pulled you out the back door. Your back was up against the wall as he stood in front of you. 
“Are you okay ?” you could hear the concern in his voice - different from his usual tone. 
At a loss for words, his eyes study your face. Johnson was a douche and he knew that, he mentally cursed himself for even bringing you here. 
“Y/n.. talk to me” he takes a step towards you. 
“Buck,” your hand presses against his chest, “I'm fine. It’s not the first time a drunk guy has hit on me” 
A breath of relief slipped past his lips, “do you want to leave?” his face softens when he asks. “No, I'm alright.” 
“Stay here, I'll be back” his hand comes down and squeezes your waist gently before he steps back into the house.

It was a while before Buck returned. He had disappeared into the house for half an hour and when he returned, you were by the pool with a pingpong ball in hand. 
“Suck it!” your loud laugh filled his ears, you took a sip from the red cup in your hand and you watched as the guy across from you drank the beer in the cup that the ball landed in. 
“Looks like you’re having fun” Buck smiles, now beside you. 
“Hey!” you reeked of beer at this point. “I’m having fun” your words come out in a slurred mumble. 
“Mhm okay, I think it’s time to head home” Buck takes the cup from you and sets it down. 
“What ?” Your hand reaches for the cup again, a pout evident on your face.
Buck’s hands finds your waist, hoisting you up and over his shoulder. A louder than expected gasp left your mouth, you felt the cold breeze against your legs as he walked towards the front of the yard. 
He put you down in the backseat of a car but you knew you came with his bike so you were confused, just as you go to ask, he scoots you over and gets in the back with you. Buck’s arm is over your shoulder, you’re so tired that you just lean into him.

You had noticed you fell asleep and when you woke, you were on the porch swing at your house with Buck’s hand in your pocket. 
“Whatcha looking for?” he glances up at you when he hears your voice. 
“Keys.” 
“Other pocket” 
He manages to find the keys and get the door open. Getting you in the house was another story. “Y/n, come on” he pulls your hands in an attempt to get you up but you weren’t budging. 
What happened to you being a prep kid and not drinking ? He didn’t even think it was possible to get drunk that fast. 
“No, tired” you mumbles, making yourself comfortable on the porch swing. “Do you want your parents to come home and find you here? I’m cool with leaving you here if that’s the case” Buck teased, he had no idea when your parents were coming home. 
The mention of your parents finding you outside, drunk, horrified you. You got up so quick, you nearly toppled over. Buck helped you inside and onto the couch. He disappeared for a moment and then returned with a glass of water. 
“Small sips” he settles beside you, watching as you take a sip. You hum, resting your head on his shoulder as his arm comes over your shoulder. 
“Buck?” 
“Yeah?” 
He felt your head shift, now looking up at him, eyes full of sleep. You were studying his face, from the birthmark above his eye to his pink lips.
“I really like you, you know” your words filled with sleep as your eyes drooped, you blinked a few times, forcing yourself to stay awake.
Buck chuckles, “that’ll pass peach, I’m just a phase.” He hummed quietly, fingers running through your hair as you drift to sleep.

The Monday after the party, you saw Buck in the hallway after waking up to an empty house on the couch, head pounding even in the deafening silence and and you can’t quite remember how you got home. 
Buck had been radio silence since then but you weren't sure why. He was walking in from the front doors and you were by your locker. You turn to speak to him but he barely glances at you before continuing his conversation with Johnson. 
From that day, you never spoke to Buck again. Last you saw him was graduation day and last you had heard was that he was in college and you were headed off to Harvard.

Present.
You had become a big shot lawyer, everything your parents wanted. Moved out to LA to start your own firm and everything was going well until this morning. 
You had barely walked into the office when the fire alarm went off. The sudden alarm caused an onset of commotion in the office, the woman next to you bumped into you, spilling your hot cup of coffee onto you. 
She mumbled a sorry as she passed but you could feel the heat coming from where the liquid had spilt. Nonetheless, you made your way out, the sound of the sirens from fire trucks blaring. 
Not that you didn’t enjoy seeing the handsome firefighters (or so your co-workers seem to say) but you had a ton of paperwork to do for an upcoming case you had and you barely started. 
You stood by the curb, watching as the firefighters made their way over to the crowd and into the building to clear it. 
“Ma'am ?” A firefighter made his way over to you, there was a helmet in his hand as he passed a hand through his hair. You glance up from your phone, to see what he wanted. 
“May I take a look?” his eyes shifted to your chest where there is currently a coffee stain on your white shirt. “Oh, thank you but no. I’m fine” 
“Are you sure? Because that’ll leave a pretty nasty mark if you don't get it cleaned. If you aren’t comfortable, we have a female medic” he offered, hoping you’d consider. 
“You’re a medic ?” you asked, looking him up and down. He nods, taking a step back. He begins walking back to the ambulance and you follow him. “Do you want me to get her?” 
“No, you’re a professional, it’s cool” you give him a small smile before moving your shirt so he could check. 
The firefighter’s hand was now right under your collarbone, dabbing at your skin with some gauze. His fingers were cold, you weren’t sure if it was actually his fingers or the gloves that were cold but either way you looked at him. 
“What’s your name ?” 
“Diaz, Eddie Diaz” he tells you, flashing you a smile before going back to his job. 
You hum, staying still as Eddie rubs something on your skin. 
That’s when you saw him. 
The same blue eyes, the same blonde hair, the same gorgeous smile that always played in your mind. Not a day went by that you didn’t think of him. You had always wondered what he ended up doing, he was smart and destined for great things, there was more for him than a small life in a place where no one ever really did anything. 
Every guy you had dated, you compared to him. It was always something- they didn’t look like him, they didn’t act like him, they didn’t treat you the way he did, they wouldn't stand up for you like he did. 
He lived rent free in your mind. 
“Ma'am?” Eddie’s voice broke your gaze. “Y/n,” you corrected him, “ma’am is for old women” your eyes going back to Buck. Eddie noticed your lack of attention and followed your gaze. 
“Do you know Buck?” 
“He still lets people call him that ?” you chuckle to yourself, feeling Eddie’s eyes burning a hole into you. 
Before you could answer, his radio buzzed before a voice came through, “building’s clear. Start directing people back in.” Eddie looks over at you, you’re already getting out of the ambulance. 
“Keep that clean and dry” were his last words to you after you left. 
--- 
It wasn’t until you were back in the building that you realized your phone was in the ambulance. 
You were majorly screwed. 
Remembering the medic’s name which was the only thing you remember mids the confusion and seeing Buck after 10+ years. You asked around the office if anyone knew what station responded to the call. You had contacts that worked for the city but the lack of phone made it hard for you to call and find out. 
Finally giving in, you google the medic’s name. There were a few articles that had photos but none of them said anything that helped. There was a video from Taylor Kelly at channel 8 news, some sort of video about the fire station. 
Station 118- that was 10 minutes down the road and you pass it everyday on the way to work. The thoughts began filling your head, had Buck been there all along? 
12 years- 12 long, empty years that you acted like he didn’t exist and that you didn’t want to know what happened between you two but he was right down the road. 
You didn’t even know if you wanted to talk to him. You had finally come to peace with it even though a part of you will always long for what could have been. Feelings aside, you set out to the station to get your phone. 
Upon arriving, there were a few guys by the trucks. You asked for Eddie, assuming that he might have an idea of where your phone ended up or if they even found it. 
“Up the stairs and he should be somewhere up there” the guy pointed, you thanked him before heading towards the stairs. When you got upstairs, it was empty. 
You weren't sure if you should go back down or wait so you sort of awkwardly stood there, glancing around the room. The station was nicer than you had imagined it to be, not that you really had an idea of what to expect. 
Your back was to the kitchen when someone tapped your shoulder. “Can I help you?” his voice called out as you turned. 
Buck. 
You let out a breath, your eyes studying his perfect face for a moment. Do you say something or just pretend like you didn’t know him?
“Yeah, I'm uh- I'm looking for Eddie. I think I left my phone in the ambulance.” 
“Do I know you from somewhere ?” 
“I work at the building down the road, 14th street. You guys were there earlier, hence the phone in the ambulance” you tell him, hoping he drops the topic. 
“Y/n! Hey! What are you doing here?” You see Eddie call from behind Buck. 
Thank god. 
“I left my phone in the ambulance. I figured you’d know what happened to it” you’ve stepped past Buck and towards Eddie now. “I haven’t seen it, but maybe it’s still in there. Come with me, we can check for it” 
Eddie was making his way down the stairs and you were behind him when Buck called your name. 
Not y/n. 
Peach. 
You paused, taking a deep breath in before turning to face him. “I thought I remembered you from somewhere” he smiled, him and his stupid smile. 
“I’m in a rush, Evan. Plus, I'm not in the mood to reminisce.” 
The smile dropped from his face, the guilt crept up on you. The feeling of your stomach twisting, sighing before making your way down to Eddie who was by the ambulance, your phone in hand. 
“There’s more to the story than I thought,” Eddie hands the phone over, you give him a hum and thank him. “Let me walk you out.” he follows you out to your car. 
“You know, whatever he did- he’s changed. He’s a good guy.” Eddie says, his voice sincere. 
“I know, I just- I don't know” 
“What did he do? If I can ask” 
“We were- I don't know what we were. We hung out in high school, just once but he was different from the other guys. He genuinely cared. We went to a party together and he brought me home after. I remember falling asleep with him in the house and the next morning he was gone. Total radio silence that whole weekend and when I saw him at school the following week, he acted like he didn’t know me - it was like that for the rest of senior year. We never spoke after that.” 
Here you were pouring your heart out to a firefighter who you had only met an hour ago who also had seen your bare chest (in a professional way, of course)  on a Tuesday morning in the parking lot. 
“Wow- I can see why you wouldn’t want to talk to him.”
“Yeah, thank you for the phone though. I gotta get back to work” 
“Wait, let me get your number” 
You pause, looking at him with furrowed brows. He seemed confused then he realized how that sounded. “Oh god- no not like that, sorry. I meant maybe we could grab a drink sometimes, as friends and maybe you could tell me more about high school Buck ?” 
“Um- yes to the number and drinks but I don’t know about Buck” you hand the phone back over to him, telling him that you’d text him.

It was a while before you heard from Eddie, he said he was off on Saturday if you were up for drinks and weren't busy. The whole team was going out but he invited you along to join them. 
After some back and forth “I couldn't intrude” and “you won’t be, come join us” you finally gave in. 
Now it’s 9pm and you, Eddie and Buck are sitting at a booth. Coincidentally, everyone else was busy. Chimney and Hen who you hadn’t met yet, were with their significant others and kids. So that left the 3 of you together. 
You wanted to walk back out when you saw it was only the two of them but Eddie had seen you and called you over. His phone buzzed just as Buck came back with drinks. 
“Everything okay?” Buck asked his friend, Eddie, still typing away on his phone. “Huh? Yeah, it’s Carla. Chris is running a fever” you could hear the concern in his voice. 
“Chris is your son?” 
“Yeah- I'm sorry I got to go. I’ll make it up to you. Drinks on me another night” Eddie gave your shoulder a squeeze as he stood. 
“No yeah, of course. Go, it’s fine” you smiled. 
“Let me know if you need anything” Buck shifts towards Eddie, the two of them seem to have some sort of routine or way of how things work between them.  
And now there were two. 
Buck sipped on his beer, you sat across from him, your nails tapping against the bottle in front of you. He was the first one to speak.
“So, how have you been?”
“Good. You?”
“Good too. I don’t know if you remember my sister but she had a baby recently so I've been hanging out with her after work”
“Oh, that’s nice. Maddie right?”
“Yeah, she had a little girl. She’s the cutest little girl ever.” Buck pulls his phone out, showing you a photo of him holding a baby in a blanket with a brunette beside him. The woman beside him, Maddie you assumed, was smiling at Buck, fixing the blanket while he looked at the camera, the joy evident on his face.
“She’s adorable and your sister looks the same, she hasn’t aged a day” you hum, passing the phone over to him.
Back to awkward silence.
“What happened to us?” Buck’s question catches you off guard.
“What happened to us? You happened.”
“What? I thought we were friends.” Your eyes met, his full of confusion and yours with displeasure.
“Friends don’t disappear in the middle of the night with no explanation and ignore them for the rest of senior year.” You get up, grab your phone and make your way to the door. Buck’s calling out to you but you don’t want to stop and talk to him.
The night was cold, the wind hit your bare shoulders and you shivered for a moment before walking. Buck was still calling out your name, he had followed you out the bar.
“Y/n! Stop! Y/n, c’mon. Please!” His hand wrapped around your wrist, holding you in place. You pull your hand back.
“No! You don’t get to do that. Act like everything is fine when you disappeared with no explanation. I know we weren’t best friends but I thought we were at least friends. That fucking hurt, Evan.”
“Fine,” he sighs, looking at you. “You want the truth ?” Your brows raised, waiting for him to continue.
“You told me you liked me. You were a good kid, going to Harvard, which you obviously did” gesturing at you, he continued. “I didn’t know what I wanted and I didn’t want you to feel like you needed to be by my side until I figured it out. I knew you would resent me for that and I couldn’t do that to you, I couldn’t do it to myself.”
“That’s selfish. It’s about you ? That’s why you left with no explanation ? You couldn’t do it to yourself ? Man the fuck up Buck, life isn’t about you.” 
“You think I don’t know that ?! You think I didn’t think about you all the time? That I didn’t miss you?” 
“Don’t start with that shit. You knew where I would be. You said it yourself, I was “a good kid, going to Harvard” so if you really missed me, you could have found me.” 
“Y/n, be real. We were just out of high school, what means did I have to go searching for you? I had my own shit to deal with.” 
“Just stop, I don’t even want to know.” 
“No, you stop” 
“No you.” 
“Y/n” his voice was stern, the annoyance clearly there. 
“Evan.” your tone matched his.
That stupid smug smile of his was on his face, that was enough to make you roll your eyes. “’Kay, I'm over your shit.” turning away from him, you go to walk away but his hand grabs yours. 
Still fit like it was made to be there. 
Before you could register what was happening, Buck’s lips were on yours. Maybe time stopped when Buck’s lips met yours but your heart didn’t- it felt like it was beating a million times seconds and the butterflies in your stomach were restless. 
It wasn't clear to either of you at the moment that it had started pouring rain but it didn’t matter. There was this raw emotion in the way his hands felt on your waist or how his chest was pressed to yours. 
Buck would be lying if he said he didn’t open his eyes slightly, sneaking a guilty peek at you just to make sure you weren’t a fiction of his imagination. Every breath he took smelt of lavender and honey, the same scent that had lingered on his mind since the day he met you. His arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer to him, if that was even possible. 
Maybe this was meant to be, fate bringing back what was meant for him to him or maybe this really was all a fabrication of his imagination but he wanted to live in his moment forever. 
It wasn't until thunder rumbled that he pulled away. The rain had soaked your clothes and hair, your makeup had smudged and half of your lipstick was on Buck. 
The same stupid smug smile on his face.
“God,” rolling your eyes at him. “You’re so annoying.” wiping your lips with the back on your hand, hoping that you got all the lipstick off. 
“Yeah, I'm the annoying one” Buck’s face twisted, giving you a playful shove as you stepped towards him. Your thumb comes up to wipe the lipstick off him. Buck’s arm lifts, now over your shoulder. 
The two of you looked at each other as you made your way down the street. 
“Just a phase huh ?” you hum, glancing at Buck. 
The blonde let out a chuckle, “maybe not.”

[January 4th, 5 p.m] Y/N's P.O.V -"Maddie please, I don't know what to do, he's your brother, don't you know everything?" I begged over the phone.
"You know Buck, he is very flirty, but sometimes he doesn't get the hint. Just ask him on a date, and not that you need to, but you could butter him up. You've got a shift with him tonight right? Make dinner for the station, we both know he loves your cooking." Maddie replied.
"Okay... yeah.... I can do that. Maddie you are the best person ever, I love you!" I said, getting off of my couch and making my way to the kitchen.
"Any time Y/N, you know I'm rooting for you two to get together, I think everyone is." She replied, a light giggle escaping as she spoke.

My timing, as always, was impeccable. 
Just as I closed my car door, casserole dish in hand, the fire engine pulled into the station. I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face when I saw Buck jump out of the truck, so full of energy.
"Y/N! You're early, I thought your shift didn't start till seven." Eddie said when he caught sight of me.
"Thought I'd come in early with some dinner, figured you'd be getting take out tonight." I explained, slightly raising the casserole dish and grocery bag.
Buck turned quick at the mention of my name, I'm not even sure he heard what I said, he seemed to busy drinking in my appearance to pay attention to the food.
"So what's for dinner?" Chimney asked, walking towards me and eyeing the casserole dish like a vulture.
"Chicken Alfredo penne, I also got stuff to make Caesar salad and garlic bread." I replied, handing Chim the bag when he extended his hand to take it from me.
"You spoil us, we'll be up in a minute to help you out." Bobby said as he rounded the corner of the ladder truck.
Chim carried the bag up to the kitchen with me, then washed his hands before helping to make the salad whilst I put the garlic bread and pasta in the oven to heat up. I looked up when I heard footsteps speeding up the stairs, and was met with the sight of a very smiley looking Buck.
"Alright, what can I help with?"
"Well, it looks like Chims got the salad pretty much taken care of... so you can just stand there and look pretty... or you can help me set the table." I said, shooting him a wink.
The blush that flushed over his cheeks made my confidence go a little higher than it should have.
"I'll get the dishes, you get the cutlery?" He said, sliding as close as he could behind me as he spoke.
"I- ugh- yeah, sounds good." I stammered as I opened the cutlery drawer. I could the the smirk on his face as I looked up, obviously proud of himself for getting me flustered.
The rest of the team came up just in time to see my blushing, and Buck practically dancing around the table. I'm sure they came to a conclusion quite quickly as to what had happened.
"Y/N, it smells delicious, as always." Hen said as she sat herself down at the table.
The tension between buck and I only continued, as he snuck in right beside me, and brushed his hand over my own as I checked on the food in the oven.
"Is it almost ready." He near whispered in my ear, sending a shiver down my spine.
"Yes, and unless you'd like to get burned, you should step away from the oven." I replied , turning my head to face him, and realizing just how close he was when our noses touched.
He stepped away and straightened up, rocking from heel to toe impatiently.
"Alright who's ready to eat?" I asked as I pulled the pasta and garlic bread out of the oven.
A round of positive responses echoed my way as I handed the casserole dish to Buck to put on the table, and I cut the garlic bread.
[9pm]
The bell went off just before 9, and when we heard the call came from a 6 year old boy, we went faster than I've been seen us get to a call .According to dispatch the boy called and said his mommy got a boo boo on her head and wouldn't wake up. 
My heart was aching before we had even entered the house. She must have slipped getting out of the shower and hit her head on the edge of the tub. She had a large gash in her head, and bruises weds already starting to form on her arm and face; her son must have heard the crash and come running to check on his mom.
"Chim, Hen, you got her? I'm gonna check on the kid." I said, stepping away from the two of them after we had gotten her on the backboard.
"Yeah we're good." Hen replied, watching as I walked towards the crying boy. 
I crouched down to his level and watched as he clutched his stuffed animal tight against himself.
"Hey buddy, can we chat for a minute?" He continued to sniffle, before looking up at me.
"Hey little man, how are you feeling?" I asked.
"Is my mommy gonna be okay?" He asked, sniffling and wiping his nose as he spoke.
"Yeah buddy, she'll be alright, you see those two over there with her? Those are my friends, and they're doing everything they can to make sure she'll be okay." I explained.
He nodded his head and stayed silent. I looked up and saw we were getting ready to leave so I stood and walked over to Buck and Bobby.
"What are we gonna do with the kid? We can't just leave him." I asked.
"His dad is a cop, he's meeting us at the hospital so we'll have to take him with us." Bobby explained.
"Okay, can you take him in the truck, I don't want him to see her in the ambulance, she's not looking her best and that kid shouldn't have to see his mother like that." I asked, knowing that if something happened on the way to the hospital, the last person we needed in the ambulance was her kid.
"That sounds good to me, I'll let everyone know, you get the kid." Bobby said before walking towards the team.
I walked back to the boy and knelt down to his level once again.
"Hey, so we have to go, but your daddy is gonna meet us at the hospital, so you are gonna come along for a ride is that alright?" I asked.
He looked up at me and squeezed his stuffed animal, nodding.
"Okay buddy, see my friend over there? His name is Buck and he is gonna help you get up into the fire truck okay." I explained, waving buck to come over to us.
"Okay." The boy mumbled.
"Hey little man, let's get you up into the fire truck so we can get going." Buck said when he got to the two of us.
I stood up and put out my hand for the boy, which he quickly took, and we walked over to the truck.
"Okay buddy, you're gonna go up into the truck okay, I'm gonna go to the truck with your mommy but we'll see you at the hospital alright." I explained to the boy.
He nodded his head and let go of my hand, letting buck lift him into the truck as I walked over to the ambulance.

Buck’s parents will come to visit us this weekend. I’ve met them many times before, not for a very long time though, but it’s the first time they’re visiting since me and Buck moved in together.  
I don’t know why, but he’s not particularly excited about it. I thought about calmly asking him about it, but I decided I’d wait for him to be ready to talk to me instead. And today, two days before their arrival, he reached out during breakfast. 
“I’m just anxious about it.” He states, avoiding my gaze, instead focusing his attention on the fork resting on the table as he messes with it. 
“But… why, babe? I thought you liked having your parents around. They’ve been here before.” I carefully try to reason him, trying to understand him at the same time. 
“I do… And sure, they’ve been here before, but not during a complete weekend.” He sighs heavily, clearly frustrated that he can’t find the right words to explain himself. “Nevermind.” 
So, his problem is that they’re going to be here for a long time? I don’t even think 48 hours is that much time, to be quite honest. I feel like there’s more to this, but I can’t quite put my finger on it yet. 
“Evan, you know you can talk to me about everything, don’t you?” I say softly, covering his hand gently and caressing it. He finally looks me in the eye and stops fumbling with the fork. 
“I know, baby. I know. I’m sorry… I just… Sometimes they’re… it’s not easy to deal with them.” He tries to explain himself, still struggling to find the right words. I tug on his hand for support. 
“Hey, whatever happens, we’re in this together, and I’ll be here for you, ok? No matter what.” I reassure him, leaning in and pressing a kiss to his lips. 
“Thank you. I love you, (Y/N).” He whispers against my lips.
“I love you, Evan.” 
*2 days later*
Saturday’s here. Two days passed by smoothly. Evan was a bit more at ease, but I could tell he was still anxious, there was still stuff floating on his mind. But I just gave him space. I know him, and he definitely doesn’t like being pressured. Sometimes I intervene, obviously. But right now, I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. 
I was busy getting our dining room ready for lunch as Ann and Connor would be arriving in no time, when I realized I haven’t seen Buck in a while. I found him quickly as he’s sitting on the couch, bouncing his leg anxiously, lost in thought. That seems to be a thing for him lately. 
Feeling the couch shift beside him, he jumps in his seat just as I’m reaching out to caress his thigh. “Jesus, (Y/N), you scared me.” 
“I’m sorry, Evan.” I apologize, biting my lip. I stare at him, caressing his cheek, as if doing so, would help me find some clue of what’s going on or, at least, something that helps me start this conversation. “What’s really going on, babe?” I ask softly, moving my hand to hold his tightly. 
“I…” He trails off, averting his gaze to his lap, consequently avoiding mine. “It’s nothing, (Y/N). Really.” 
“It’s not nothing, Evan. I know you.” I confront him, keeping my tone even and gentle. “Whatever’s bugging you, it’s not nothing. I can tell it’s serious.” 
Buck sighs heavily, burying his head in his hands. I get closer to him, putting my arms around him and caressing his back with my hand soothingly. The silence lings in the air for a couple of minutes. 
“It’s stupid.” He finally says, still in the same position, not wanting to face me. 
“If it’s upsetting you, it’s not stupid, Evan.” I whisper, tugging his left arm to me so he’d finally face me. He concedes, so I take his hand in mine as he still rests his chin under his other hand. “Whatever it is, I won’t judge you. I’m not here to judge you, I’m here for you. No matter what.”
“It’s just… My parents. I don’t think I’m mentally ready to have them here.” He finally admits. I can tell there’s much to the story, but for now, I’m just content with the fact that he’s opening up to me. “You just don’t know how they truly are. I mean, I love my parents, but they just... “ He trails off, not sure of how to end that sentence. 
“Evan, we’ll go through this together, ok?” I whisper, and he nods. “If you feel uncomfortable or something, we’ll just come up with some excuse and we’ll make them leave. It’ll be fine.” I assure him, leaning in and pressing a few kisses to his lips. 
*Sunday, 1:25pm - 24 hours into having Evan’s parents at home*
Now I know what Evan meant yesterday. Ann and Connor spent the whole day being passive aggressive towards him. About everything. About him as a person. About his job. Honestly, I don’t know how they can’t see that what they’re saying is hurting him. It was definitely pissing me off, so I’d just answer back assertively. 
So, last night, before we went to bed, Evan sat down with me and just asked me not to say anything, that he’d handle it. I’m trying to respect that, but I hate seeing him so down and sad. I think he should speak up and tell them how he feels, but I can see why he doesn’t. 
We’re hanging out in our living room after lunch when his mom speaks up, breaking silence.  
“How do you feel about my son’s job, (Y/N)?” She asks me, out of nowhere, completely catching me off guard. 
I lock my gaze with Evan’s and he shoots me an apologetic and ashamed look. God, he looks so sad, I hate seeing him like this. 
“I love that he’s a firefighter. He’s a hero to so many people. He’s my hero.” I say truthfully, shooting him an assuring smile, which he returns timidly. “I’m really proud of him.”
“Aren’t you scared that he’ll get killed trying to save somebody he doesn’t even know? I tell him that all the time, he’s risking his life for strangers.” She affirms calmly. Doesn’t she have a clue? What the fuck?
“If everybody thought like you, there would be no first responders, no firefighters in the world.” I reply, matching her calmness. “Of course I’m scared he might get hurt, but I trust him and I know he’s very good at his job, and so are his coworkers. They’re all super professional and qualified for their functions.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” That’s all she said. For a few seconds. Then she speaks up again. “But you know, he’s not as nice of a boy as he used to be. That job changed him. Connor thinks so too.”
“Well, then I can tell you that you’re right. He’s not a nice boy.” I say confidently, smiling sweetly at them, making the three of them move their attention fully to me. “He’s a great man. The best man I know, if I’m being honest. He’s grown into this amazing man, with this huge heart, a true fighter. He outdoes himself and surpasses any adversity or obstacle that comes in his path.”
I stop talking for a few seconds, turning to face Evan, and his beautiful blue eyes are shining with emotion, his mouth slightly open. His mother is staring at me, a blank expression on her face. And his dad seems to be lost in thought, as if he’s letting my words sink in. 
“And those are just a few of the million reasons why I love him.” I add, proudly, finally finishing up, feeling overwhelmed myself.
Thankfully that conversation subsided. A few minutes later, Evan motioned me to follow him, so we quietly excused ourselves to our bedroom. 
“Are you o-” I start once we get inside but he quickly cuts me off. He pulls me into a really tight hug, and hides his face in the crook of my neck. I could feel his hot, steady breath against my soft skin, and it feels so intimate, like home. 
“I love you so much, (Y/N). So fucking much.” He mumbles against my skin, his voice slightly wavering with emotion. “Thank you, babe.”
“For what?” I ask genuinely.
He pulls back slightly, but still keeps me in between his arms and close to him, and locks his gaze with mine. 
“For everything. For defending me, just now. For supporting me. For loving me.” He lists out, blushing a bit by the end. “No one ever did that for me.”
“I love you, baby. I always will be by your side, loving you and supporting you.” I reassure him, moving my hands to press my palms against his chest. “And also give your parents a reality check if needed.” We both chuckle lightly at my last sentence. “What would you do without me, Evan Buckley?” I laugh, playing with his shirt’s collar.
He pretends to be thinking really hard about what I just asked, so I playfully hit his shoulder. “Babe, stop.” I pout. 
He leans down and kisses me for a few seconds, before answering truthfully to my question.
“I’d look for you everywhere. I wouldn’t stop until I found you.”

You’d never met Buck’s parents, and he barely spoke about them, so when you got a call at work from your boyfriend telling you his family would be joining you both for dinner that night you’d spent the rest of the day fretting about what to wear, what to say, how to act...
Maddie and Chimney would be there too, but Buck had told you he wouldn’t survive the dinner without you, whatever that meant. You knew things weren’t great between the Buckley’s and their parents, but they’d both always been so vague on the details. Maybe you should have pushed, but you didn’t think you’d meet them this soon.
“They can’t be that bad, you and Maddie turned out great,” you tried, phone between your ear and your shoulder as you fastened the burgundy blouse you’d opted to wear. 
“Just wait until you meet them,” Buck said in a low voice, calling to check what time you’d be arriving. You could hear conversation in the background, definitely Maddie and two other voices you didn’t recognise, presumably the parents. 
“Is this really how you chose to decorate your living room?” You heard a female voice call out to Buck, hearing him sigh a little on the other end of the line, clearly wearing thin. 
“Okay, okay, I’ll come save you as soon as I can,” you promised, tucking your shirt in and searching for your earrings, curious to see just what Mr and Mrs Buckley were actually like.
“Thank you, thank you,” he repeated gratefully, getting called again by his parents as he hurried up his good byes, “I love you, see you soon.”
“I love you too, bye,” he hung up, leaving you to pick up the pace a little. He sounded stressed, and on edge, two things Buck rarely was. You wished he’d told you more about them, but you guessed you’d just have to find out when you arrived. 
Double checking you had everything and giving yourself one last look over in the full length mirror by your door, you headed out.
Buck had text you to just come right on in, so you made your way into his apartment and headed straight for the dining area, following the sounds of strained conversation with anticipation. Chimney seemed to be trying to carry a conversation, but it was clear from where you were standing that there was tension between the four Buckley’s.
Maddie gave you a pained look when she noticed you, still offering you a welcoming and almost pitying smile as the sound of your footsteps alerted the others to your presence.
Buck lit up, standing from his seat to kiss you. “Hey, glad you could make it,” he said, taking the wine you’d brought off of your hands so you could sit down.
“You must be Y/N,” the woman who was clearly Buck’s mother smiled, standing to hug you in greeting. It took you by surprise, but she seemed friendly enough. “I’m Donna, this is my husband Steve,” she told you, Steve standing up to shake your hand as you all settled down at the table.
“It’s nice to meet you both,” you told them, glancing between Buck and Maddie, then at a relieved looking Chimney. You’d come because Buck had wanted saving, but you actually thought he looked the most uncomfortable out of everyone here, which was saying something. 
“It’s lovely to finally meet you too, even though we haven’t heard very much about you,” Donna said with a pointed look at Buck, “I was hoping we’d get a chance to meet sooner, but it seems like we have to put in all the effort if we want to see our kids.”
“You know how busy we’ve been with work,” Buck explained, which was valid given that his parents lived out of state and both siblings worked five out of seven days a week. 
“You always are,” Steve retorted in a tone you couldn’t quite read, but from the way Maddie took a large gulp of her wine, you felt that this was an old issue in the Buckley family, and one that had probably already been brought up today.
The food looked lovely, so you settled in and took a bite as a bit of an awkward silence fell over the table, Chimney shooting you a sympathetic and knowing look that had you dreading what was to come.
“So Y/N,” Steve began, ignoring the looks of dread from both his children as he continued, “do you put on a costume and run into fires for minimum wage or do you have a proper job?” 
Oh crap. You slowly swallowed the food in your mouth, looking at him in a little bit of shock.
“Dad-” Maddie tried despairingly but he waved her off with a dismissive hand, still looking at you as he awaited your response. It suddenly felt like you’d turned up to an interview unprepared.
“Oh er, I’m a lawyer,” you replied finally, sticking more food in your mouth in the hopes of not having to say anything else on the matter. No wonder Chimney had looked so happy to see you - had he been subject to same third degree? From the way Steve had just spoke about firefighters, you figured you had your answer.
“Oh, see that’s what we wanted Evan to do, but...” Donna looked at Buck like some kind of child who’d just disappointed her, “it wasn’t his strong suit.”
You bit your tongue, your stubborn protectiveness rising up. These were Buck’s parents, there were certain rules of etiquette right? You couldn’t put them in their place? 
“I love my job,” Buck spoke up for the first time, “I’m good at my job, I help people-”
“Of course, we’re only saying we wanted more for you,” Donna clarified like that made what she said any better, or did she not even see anything wrong with it?
“What more could you want? That was your dream for me, not mine,” Buck replied defensively, the fake polite smile on Donna’s face vanishing. Steve put his cutlery down then, not happy with the tone Buck had just taken with his mother.
“Evan, really, what happened to that nice and polite boy we raised?” He scolded, voice stern. Buck clamped his mouth shut again quicker than you’d ever seen.
“Mr and Mrs Buckley-” you tried to interject, but Buck shook his head at you, resigning himself to accepting the criticism and insult once again.
You and Chimney shared a confused and helpless look, unsure of what to say or do in this situation but both wanting desperately to say or do something. 
The meal continued awkwardly, with snippets of small talk mixed in with the sound of cutlery and eating, and you naively began to think that the worst of it had passed. Donna had just asked what kind of law you specialised in, but by the time you’d finished explaining, it became clear that Mrs Buckley wasn’t done saying her piece from earlier.
“I’m glad Buck’s found someone mature and grown up, surprised, but glad,” she told you cheerfully, their complete lack of awareness at how terribly they talked to their children startling you once again.
“How so?” You asked, voice tight, your protectiveness beginning to boil over. Chimney saw the way you tensed, knowing you well enough to know that things were about to take a turn as he cleared he deliberately cleared his throat, warning you.
“Mom-” Buck tried with no small amount of desperation as Donna took a breath to reply to you, somehow unaware of your tone or expression.
“No no, you know what I mean, good job, good looking, Evan’s lucky he isn’t insecure about dating someone who earns more than him,” she and Steve laughed, but your jaw was clenched so tightly you thought your teeth were going to shatter, “oh don’t get me wrong, he is handsome, but we always said, he’d look much better if he fixed that mark on his face.”
You saw white as she tried to gently touch his face to make her point, looking a little insulted when Buck ducked away from her hand. She was about to make yet another comment when your knife and fork clanged down onto the plate with deliberate force, making her jump and stopping the conversation. Buck took that moment to get up, shoving his chair back and leaving the table.
“Buck!” Maddie called her brother, looking at her parents with disappointment. Donna shot back a questioning look, like she didn’t know what she’d said or done. 
“Evan we’re in the middle of dinner-” Steve seemed like he was about to lecture his son on his table manners, but you stopped listening, making a show of throwing your napkin down onto the table and glaring at both his parents before storming off after Buck without another word.
You found him in the bathroom, leaning with his hands on either side of the sink, head hung low and eyes closed. Without a word you went up behind him and wrapped your arms around his back, hugging him as you felt him release a breath, grateful as one of his arms moved to yours.
“I love you,” you told him, tightening your grip to emphasise the point, “they shouldn’t speak to you like that, they don’t have any right to.”
“They always have,” Buck sighed. You hated this, absolutely hated it, and you had just the mind to march back in there and tell Mr and Mrs Buckley just how much you hated it.
“That doesn’t mean they should,” you said with force, trying to convince him that he deserved more as you pulled the hand that was holding yours, getting him to turn around to face you. “Evan Buckley, you’re smart, you’re kind, you’re charming, and you’re ten times the man they could ever imagine, try not to forget that.”
“I not-” he began but you shook your head, not letting him get in a word of self-doubt and insecurity.
“Yes, you are, and even if I have to repeat it over and over, I’m going to keep saying it until you believe it too, okay?” You weren’t actually asking, and he knew that as he met your eyes, reluctantly nodding with a small smile of appreciation.
You sighed and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him in for a kiss. “I wish you could see yourself how I do, how the rest of us do, you’re far too good for them and better than they’ll ever know. I love you.”
“I- I love you too,” he got out, a little choked up by your sentiment as he cleared his throat and blinked a few times. “We er, we should probably get back in there and save Maddie and Chim, huh?”
You laughed, “I’ll try not to stab your parents with my knife, but I can’t say it’s a promise.”

Summary: In short, Buck pulled a “Buck”, and after the reader is done worrying and mother-henning him, she chews him out and inadvertently reveals one of her deepest secrets
Genre: Fluff, and a little bit of what I like to call “Dumbass Reprimanding”
Warnings: Some swears, mentions of near death experiences, Classic Buck Dumbassery, normal 9-1-1 stuff
A/N: This is my first 9-1-1 fic, so plz be nice. I am but a baby 9-1-1 fan.

Of all the dumbass things Evan Buckley has done, Y/N L/N had to put “running back into a burning building that was about 30 seconds away from collapsing to save a little girl’s cat” right at the top of a stupidly long list. Yeah, it was very sweet of him and the little girl was very relieved that her furry friend was rescued, but he could have been trapped in there.
It started out as just another call. The squad made it to the cul de sac, and started getting ready to put out the fire. Eddie, Buck, and Y/N went in to get the family out while Bobby, Chim, and Hen started getting the Med Zone ready (which is what Y/N likes to call it). Y/N helped the mom and daughter get out, Eddie helped the dad out, and Buck carried the son out on his back (which was really cute). They brought them to Chim and Hen to make sure they were all good, and as Eddie and Y/N were starting to unravel the hose to start pumping out the H2O, the daughter (whose name was Lilly) cried out, “Marbles! I didn’t grab Marbles! She ran under my bed when she heard the smoke alarms! She’s still upstairs!!!”
Y/N could almost see all the gears in Buck’s fat head turning, so she said, “Buck, don’t even think about it. You saw it in there! Another minute goes by and that whole house is coming down!”, and he didn’t even look at her before sprinting like a mad man back into the house. Y/N screamed, “BUCK!!!”, and went to run after him, but Eddie held her back. She kept trying to break free from his grasp, so both Bobby and Hen had to come over and help Eddie restrain her while she was screaming Buck’s name like a maniac, which Y/N would not put at the top of her “Proudest Moments as a Firefighter” list.
Hen managed to calm Y/N down by saying that either she do her job or Hen would stop bringing Y/N a coffee from her favorite little café in the city every morning for a week (what can she say? She hates firehouse coffee), and she got back to work. Y/N heard the house come down while she was helping Chim with the mom, and it took every ounce of willpower she had to not break down in front of everyone. Y/N kept helping Chim and Hen until she heard a voice she never thought she would hear again say, “Here you go, Lilly. She’s a little freaked out right now, but I’m sure you know how to calm her down, right?”, so Y/N turned around to see Buck handing Lilly her cat, which made her chest tighten slightly with emotion.
Y/N screamed, “Buck!!!”, then started hauling ass towards him, and he barely had time to brace himself before she threw myself into his arms and hugged him tighter than she ever had before while burying her face in his shoulder. Buck swept Y/N into his arms, and spun her around a little while hugging her back just as tight, and she could feel him chuckling into her neck (the bastard).
Buck set her down, and Y/N cupped his dusty face in her hands while saying, “You’re okay! You’re here! You’re alive! You’re breathing! You’re standing on two feet! You’re not dead!”, and trying her hardest not to lose it. He smiled, grabbed her hands, and said, “Yeah, Y/N/N. I’m not dead,” which made her smile back before dropping the smile and smacking his chest repeatedly while saying, “Are you out of your mind, Buckley?!?!”
He was clearly caught off guard by the sudden mood shift, and he said, “What the hell, L/N?!”, so Y/N replied, “You could have died!!! You knew that house was coming down sooner rather than later and you still went back in! For a cat, of all things, Evan. A friggin cat!!!”, before massaging her temples. He said, “That cat means the world to that little girl, I wasn’t going to let her die!”, so Y/N screamed, “YOUR LIFE SHOULD HAVE MORE VALUE THAN A FUR BALL WITH LEGS AND A TAIL, EVAN!”, which made him physically stagger backwards (because Y/N is the farthest away from being a shouter), and the entire team turn to look at them as tears started streaming down Y/N’s face.
Buck’s face instantly sobered, and he said, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hey. Come here, Y/N,” before pulling her into another hug. Y/N clung to him for dear life and sobbed out, “You gotta be more careful, Buck. You’re my best friend, and I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you,” so he whispered back, “Hey, shhhhh. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, Y/N/N. I’m a tough nut to crack, remember?”, and playfully tickled her side, which made her sniffle out a laugh and let go of him.
Y/N cupped his face in my hands again, then without thinking, she pulled his face down towards her and crashed her lips against his. He tensed up at first, then wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her back with so much passion she was lifted off her feet. Y/N could have stayed like that forever, but unfortunately, humans need oxygen to live, so she had to pull her lips away rather begrudgingly.
Buck kept his eyes closed for a few seconds longer as if he was trying to commit what just happened to memory, which made Y/N let out a giggle and lean her forehead against his. When his eyes finally opened, he shot her his signature heart-stopping smirk before he said, “Do I just have to assume what that was about, or are you gonna tell me?”, so Y/N thumped him on the chest slightly, then said, “I’ve had a bit of a crush on you since I joined the 118. I obviously never told you, but that was because I somehow got it into my head that there was no way in hell I’d ever stand a chance with you. So, I just kept my mouth shut and pretended like it didn’t physically hurt when you dated all those gorgeous women.”
Buck’s eyes softened, and he tilted her chin up so she’d look at him, then said, “There’s only one thing all those women had in common: they weren’t you,” before pressing another kiss to her lips and smiling against her mouth. Y/N let out a little sigh, then cupped his face in one hand and wrapped an arm around his shoulders to kiss him back, only slightly ignoring the others when she heard Hen say, “Alright, pony up, y’all,” and a series of groans rise from the squad.
Y/N pulled away with a giggle, and Buck started laughing too, so she leaned against him and said, “Aren’t we a pair, Buckley?”, which made him say, “We are, L/N,” before holding out a hand. She grabbed it, then the two of them walked back over to the others. Chim was holding up his phone, and both Buck and Y/N shot him a look, but then Y/N heard Maddie scream through the phone, “I KNEW IT!!!! I TOLD YOU, CHIM!!! I TOLD YOU!!! I KNEW SHE’D ADMIT IT EVENTUALLY!!!”, which made her let out a groan and bury her face in Buck’s neck, making him chuckle and kiss her forehead.
Bobby said, “Congratulations, you two. Now, let’s head back to the station,” before opening the door of the truck and climbing inside. Everyone else started getting ready to head back, and Buck helped Y/N climb into the truck (even though they both knew he didn’t have to) before the squad headed back to the 118. The whole ride back, Buck kept shooting winks at Y/N from across the cab, and Eddie said, “I hope this honeymoon phase doesn’t last long. I’m already starting to feel nauseous,” which made her say, “Don’t make me kick your ass, Diaz,” and he playfully raised his hands in surrender.
Y/N’s phone started ringing, so she pulled it out to see that Carla was calling her. She raised an eyebrow, but she answered anyway and said, “Hello?”, only to be met by a loud, excited scream, which made her have to hold the phone away from her ear. Once she heard the scream die down, Y/N put the phone back up to her ear and said, “Was that really necessary?”, so Carla replied, “YES!!! My favorite white boy and my favorite girl are finally together!!!”, which made Y/N say, “Okay, how do you even know that? It happened less than five minutes ago!”
Y/N heard her let out a chuckle over the line, and she said, “Maddie sent me a picture that her boy toy took. I’ll send it to you real quick,” then she felt her phone buzz, so she looked in her messages and saw that the picture Chim had taken was of her and Buck kissing when Buck was smiling against her lips and she was cupping his face in one hand. Y/N blushed slightly, then put the phone back to her ear and said, “I will hunt you down if I find that picture on any social media platform,” which made Carla let out a huff and say, “Mmm-hmm, sure you will, Honey. Bye bye, now,” before hanging up.
Y/N looked down at the call terminated screen, and let out a long sigh. Buck noticed, and he said, “Everything good, Y/N/N?”, so she replied, “Yeah. Just remind me to hurt Chim later,” which made Chim say, “Hey! What did I do?!”, and Y/N shot back, “You know exactly what you did,” before throwing him a dirty look. Buck started laughing at Chim’s offended face, and Y/N tried her hardest to contain any laughter, but you could tell she was pretty close to losing it based on the look on her face.
We pulled into the firehouse, and Bobby said, “Alright, job well done, everybody. L/N, after you’re done changing, you’re with me in the kitchen,” so she said, “You got it, Cap,” and went to go take her gear off. Y/N went upstairs after she was back in civies, and she started helping Bobby with dinner. After a few minutes of the two of them doing their Kitchen Quickstep in silence, Bobby said, “You and Buck, huh?”, so Y/N said, “Yep. I’m almost as surprised as you are,” which made Bobby say, “Then you must not be all that surprised,” and she said, “What?”, but he called the squad to come eat, meaning she missed her chance to question him further.
Everyone sat down, and Y/N helped Bobby bring everything over to the table, making Hen say, “Oh, hell yes. When Bobby and Y/N/N are cooking together, you know it’s gonna be real good,” while high-fiving Chim. Buck plopped down into his usual spot, and Y/N sat down right next to him, and before Buck could say or do anything, Eddie said, “You two lovebirds better keep the PDA to a minimum during meal time,” which made her shoot him a look before planting a loud smooch on Buck’s cheek just to be spiteful. Buck laughed and said, “You should have seen that coming, Diaz. You know what she’s like,” which made Eddie roll his eyes and toss a crouton in Buck’s general direction.
They kept eating, and Y/N felt Bucky’s free hand sneakily grab hers under the table and run his thumb affectionately on the back of it, which made her squeeze back and shoot him a smile. He let go only to grab her chair and pull it closer to his, which made Y/N’s cheeks go slightly pink while she kept eating. Buck shot her a little smirk, and she knew right then that she made the right impulsive decision of kissing him next to the ladder truck with the squad less than ten feet away from the two of them handing each other wads of cash because they all had figured it out way before either of them.

a/n: this is such a great idea, and i’m so happy you asked me to execute it <3 madeline is also inspired by the name maddie, as i feel like that’s so cute for buck :((
madeline was a gift from the moment y/n took time off work because of her pregnancy. she was a gift the moment they decided on a name. she was a gift the moment she entered the world in the small hospital room.
however, y/n despised herself for thinking part of it was a curse. she loved her daughter more than anything in the world despite the short amount of weeks that she had arrived. buck had gone back to work, but y/n needed more time to recover from the birth. she got the pleasure of staying home with her baby, and she genuinely thought so.
it wasn’t until the constant screams came through madeline’s mouth that y/n started to get more and more tensed. her head was pounding, her body was sore and she just wanted to give her baby peace.
she felt like the worst mother in the world, not being able to comfort or secure her baby girl. she figured it would come naturally. in reality, it’s never been harder.
she cried when she was hungry, needed a diaper change, sleepy, or she just cried. it seemed like it was always that she just cried and screamed. it burned in y/n’s ear painfully as she listened to the squeals of her daughter. she just wanted her to be happy, and buck wasn’t there to help.
“mad, please.” y/n begged when her eyes started to water again, and the quiet squeaks left her baby’s soft cheeks. “i’m so sorry, i want to help you.”
y/n sighed as she rocked the baby in her arms, the bags under her eyes only getting darker as she stayed up with madeline. buck was exhausted when he came home, so he just went to sleep. y/n was fine with that as he did everything he could for his girls, all the time.
she’d be lying if she said she didn’t miss buck every hour.
he had some type of paternal magic to him that eased madeline. it brought her down to earth, and it gave y/n time to relax. her hormones were all over to place. every time her baby cried, it flooded her body was sadness and exhaustion. she was deeply jealous of buck secretly because of the ease he seemed to have with handling their child.
“hey, dad,” hen smiled, seeing buck walk back into the station after a few weeks with his wife and baby alone. “how’s y/n and the baby?”
“they’re good, i feel so bad leaving them though.”
“it’s hard to leave, that’s the last thing i wanted to do when we first got denny.”
“it’s just- i talk to you about anything, right?”
“of course, buck! what makes you say that, though.”
“madeline cries a lot, and i can just tell in y/n’s face that somethings wrong. i mean, i get that babies cry, but it just seems like it’s taking a huge toll on y/n. i don’t want her thinking she’s a bad mom, and if what happened to maddie happens to her,” buck thinks back to his sister, who went to hell and back trying to be a better mom for jee-yun. it breaks his heart to even consider y/n feeling left in the dark the same way. “i can’t handle that.”
“listen, buck,” hen lands a hand on his shoulder. “it’s going to be ok. you could even go for a little longer off work, you came back really soon.”
“y/n said it’d be good for us, and make me happier.”
“but is it making things easier? you both need to be doing this together. y/n’s saying a lot of stuff she doesn’t mean, and her mind is running at a 100 miles an hour.”
“i know,” buck says. “i’m gonna see her after the shift, i’ll talk to bobby. see what i can do.”
y/n continued to pace around the kitchen for hours, her lower back beginning to ache and her ears hurting from the wails of the baby in her arms. she tried everything from feeding her to rocking her in her swing, but nothing seemed to stop the cries of her daughter.
“madeline, please, i’m begging you,” y/n whines, practically on her knees for her child to stop crying.
the cries quickly started to blend in, y/n realizing that they’ll never go away. she wasn’t sick or anything, y/n repeatedly checked, but madeline still was just simply unhappy. and, y/n swore she was the problem.
buck arrived home late in the night, hours past dinner and inching closer to the bedtime of their casual family. when he opened the door, he just knew that y/n was in there with their baby, struggling to hang on and fix the problem.
“y/n?” he calls out, wandering around their home and finally landing in the nursery. the light purple walls and decorations were darkened, y/n and madeline sitting in the chair together. y/n’s shirt had been pulled down so she was able to feed madeline, but it seemed like no use. the baby in her arms was still weeping and throwing her tiny hands around. “oh, y/n.”
her blank expression told it all, along with the dark bags under her eyes. “she’s so upset, buck, i don’t know what to do.” y/n murmurs slightly over the cries of the baby.
“it’s ok, honey, we’re gonna figure it out.” y/n’s eyes just water with each tear that drops from madeline’s eyes. “no, no, it’s okay, y/n.”
“i’m sorry, i’m just so tired.”
“i know, i’m here now. we can fix this, okay?” y/n swipes under her eyes, taking in sharp breaths and trying to steady herself. “hey, honey, listen to me. you’re ok, madeline’s ok, i’m ok. we’ll be alright.
she nods as his arm touches her side, the baby wrapped in his other arm. “alright. why don’t you hold her, and i’m gonna go see if our noise machine is here yet.”
buck rustles through packages and gifts from their baby shower and tries to find anything that might help their girl sleep, and anything that will bring relief to y/n.
“i found it! it’ll be white noise, which we should’ve tried sooner. i don’t know if it’ll work, but it won’t hurt to try.”
buck allowed y/n to place the baby in her crib, letting her tiny body rest against the soft mattress. they turned the lights off and plugged in the machine, which sang out the staticky white noise that calmed their daughter.
her crying started to come to a halt after a bit of hearing the noise, her adorable little eyes shutting after a bit to finally rest. y/n could feel her whole body relax under seeing her baby finally sleep, as it had felt like days.
she felt like crying, she felt like sleeping, but she also felt like she had so much to do. the house was a mess, her baby had finally gotten to sleep, but she also wanted to sleep. it felt like one thing after another, and buck looked over again to see a y/n staring at the ground.
“what’s the matter? talk to me, y/n.”
“i’m not cut out for this,” her shaky voice comes out, his hands on the sides of her arms.
“what? of course you are!”
“i can barely manage to keep this house together, let alone keep our baby happy and i haven’t even been able to go back to work! i feel like shit and i just want to be happy with my baby, but i don’t even know if she’s happy and-“
“alright, i know,” she allows herself to fall into bucks grasp, as he worries silently for her in his mind. he can feel the exhaustion venting off her body, begging for sleep and somewhere to lay in peace and quiet. “i don’t want you worrying about anything else. let’s go to sleep, and i’m gonna help you, i promise. i’m never leaving either of your sides.”
his arms warmly grasp her body clad in a soft set. he leads her to their shared bed, pulling the blankets out and holding her as she finally gets her deserved sleep.

“What are you doing?” you asked your boyfriend, firefighter Evan Buckley, as he pranced around his loft apartment. Armed with a duster in one hand and a broom in the other, you would’ve made a bet with Maddie that he was dressing as Cinderella for Halloween. It was a weird sight to see because he was cleaning. The man was actually cleaning and you could not get over it.
You took your phone out and secretly snapped a few photos of Buck. He was dusting the top of the fridge and it just occurred to you… is that an area people are supposed to clean?
This was getting more and more strange.
You sent the photo to Maddie, who instantly replied, ‘all he is missing is an apron!’ with a few laughing-crying emojis. You smiled at her response, letting your brain picture the sight of Buck prancing around in an apron, holding various cleaning tools, like some 1950s housewife. You would’ve hung onto that ridiculous thought if Buck didn’t decide to speak up just then.
“I told you. My parents are coming. This place needs to be spotless,” Buck started dusting the undersides of the kitchen cabinets and you continued watching him. Your face was scrunched up as you followed his hand movements. Did Buck ever clean like this before?
For as long as you’ve known him, he never really mentioned his parents and that was not something you wanted to ask about unless he brought it up. Maddie mentioned a few things to you, in order to prepare you for the day, but it wasn’t much. Both Buckley parents were absent in their children’s’ lives, forcing Maddie and Buck to rely on each other while growing up. This would be the first time you’ve met them, and the first time Buck has seen them in who knows how long. This was a big deal. You thought you should be the one who is nervous. This would be the first time meeting the boyfriend’s parents and you needed to make a good impression. But Buck… he was acting like the world was going to end if the spout of the kitchen sink wasn’t properly polished. He was nervous enough for the both of you. Your job, which you were trying to settle into without overthinking, was to be calm and level-headed enough for the both of you.
That still didn’t stop the butterflies from moving full speed in your stomach.
When Buck started to pull out all the Tupperware containers and begin rearranging them in a new, organized, and super unnecessary way, you decided to intervene. Standing up, you made your way to your boyfriend and you slipped your arms around him, essentially hugging him from behind. Your head rested between his shoulder blades as you just held him in a comforting way.
Buck froze for a second and you could feel how tense and stiff he was. However, he instantly relaxed in your arms, like a weight had been lifted and you could sense a grin that splashed onto his face. He turned around in your arms, facing you while you hugged him at the waist.
He was taller than you by a good foot. Even if you stood on your tippy toes, you would not reach his lips, and damn did you want to right now. It was a good thing he knew you well enough to read your mind because he was thinking the same thing. He leaned down, much to your happiness, and placed the sweetest, softest kiss upon your lips. It was perfect, the way he dangled himself in front of you, leaving you wanting more and knowing you couldn’t reach him. He teased you in a way that made you both frustrated and excited.
“I know I’m acting crazy. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you,” Buck said as he captured your lips with his one more time.
The second kiss caught you by surprised, but you welcomed it. You leaned into him and your fingers instantly tightened and gripped his white shirt. You tried to let go, knowing his pressed white shirt and black blazer were for show and he wanted to make a good impression on his parents, but if you didn’t hold onto him, you were going to melt into a puddle of goo.
Imagine Buck trying to clean that up.
You grinned into the kiss as the new image that popped into your head, but it was short-lived. There was a knock on the door, five concise raps in a row. Buck instantly pulled away, and you caught a small, tiny look of fear in his eyes. He masked it by putting on a brave face but you knew him better than that.
“Go get the door, I’ll clean this up,” you told him with a gentle smile. You firmly nudged him toward the door and Buck reluctantly went to open it. You hurriedly put all the Tupperware containers back in their original cabinet, with organization going out the window. The door opened just as you shut the cabinet door, and you turned around on your heels and leaned against the counter, trying to act calm and casual.
You could hear the greetings and see the hugs before you saw the people. Buck’s parents appeared into view, smiling at their son, who you would’ve guessed they haven’t seen in such a long, long time.
First, you saw a woman. Her hair was tightly pulled back into an updo and she dressed in a business suit, paralleling her son in a semi-formal way. Following her was an older gentleman, dressed nearly identical as Buck. Apparently, looking proper was part of the Buckley charm. You must have missed that memo, since you were wearing jeans and a nice shirt, more casual than the Buckley family.
“You must be the one my son is so smitten with,” the woman replied with a smile. She made her way across the living area and into the kitchen, pulling you into a weird and awkward one-armed hug.
“I didn’t know firefighters could afford places like this,” the older gentleman said as he looked around.
You looked at Buck, who’s smile seemed to twitch with slight offensiveness. You knew he was proud of his job and you remember telling him that he loved his job more than you. Naturally, Buck denied that but played along and said his job kept him satisfied in ways that you couldn’t. You took it as a challenge and the two of you had mind-blowingly incredible sex that night. However, you were now cursing at your brain to abandon this train of thought at the station. You didn’t need to think about your sexual life with Buck while his parents were right there.
“I’m doing well for myself,” Buck said with a proud smile.
You nodded in agreement. Buck was doing good. He had a semi-stable job, he was healthy (especially after those blood clots in his leg that gave everybody a scare), and he was happy. Life was pretty good for him, and you could see how he was taking things all in stride.
“I thought you would have made something of yourself by now, Evan.” His mother spoke up. She was standing right next to you and it took every ounce of your strength to pull yourself together and not flash her a ‘what the hell did you just say????’ look. Instead, you kept your eyes on Buck, showing an obvious emotion of confusion.
Buck was certainly caught off guard by his mother’s words and seemed to be rendered speechless when his father chimed in with agreements.
“Firefighting is not a career, you know. I thought we raised you better than that,” his father said so casually, like he was making normal conversation and not offending his son by his choice of employment.
You felt a sense of dread swirling inside. You were longing to meet Buck’s parents and now you could not wait for them to leave.
“He does a very good job as a first responder. He saved countless people. Maddie also helps. It’s pretty great seeing the two Buck siblings take on the world together,” you said, trying not to cringe at how pathetic you sounded. Buck wasn’t speaking up, which meant that you had to take the reins and defend him. He deserves to be treated better than that.
“And to go so long without a phone call, or a letter, or even an email!” Buck’s dad was rambling as he walked around the apartment, staring at how immaculate Buck tried to make it, “would it have killed you to let us know what you’ve been up to? Seems like you just dropped off the face of the earth!”
If that wasn’t disgusting enough, the laugh that Buck’s dad gave shortly after sent your blood boiling. Was he finding this funny, calling his son out like this?
“You used to be such a nice boy,” Buck’s mother said as she approached her son, “but now it just feels like you and your sister enjoy ignoring us.”
How Buck was still standing was impressive to you. If it were you, some deep-rooted anger would have shot out right now and slapped his parents across the face. Buck told you bits and pieces about his parents. They were never there growing up. Their careers were more important than their children, leaving Buck and Maddie to sort of raise each other and look out for one another. It was not an ideal situation, and it broke your heart when Buck told you. He was visibly upset when it came to sharing details about his parents and you didn’t ask further questions.
But when Buck received a phone call from his mom, saying that both mom and dad will be in Los Angeles for a conference, you saw how excited he was. Hell, he was waltzing around the apartment, cleaning and tidying things up all week, after his mom mentioned that she would stop by for a visit with his dad. What was it all for? To be continuously kicked while he was already down?
“And this thing,” Buck’s mother said as her face scrunched in disgust, “you should get this removed. You would look much more handsome.” Her hand brushed against the birthmark on Buck’s face, and Buck instantly pulled back at the touch.
If you weren’t paying attention, you would have missed the part where Buck’s father actually nodded in agreement without having said anything. Your hands were shaking, and you stuffed them into the back pockets of your jeans, trying to keep your nerves in check. These people were Buck’s parents? This is how parents act toward their children?
Buck’s jaw clenched as he inhaled deeply, sending the worst disguised smile in his mother’s direction. “I wonder what’s keeping the food. I’m gonna check, be right back.”
He left the apartment, and you immediately felt like you were swimming in awkwardness. With Buck gone, they might pick on you next, and you were not going to let that happen. Racking your brain for an excuse, you settled with a simple one.
“Shoot, he forgot to grab the money to pay for lunch. I’ll be right back,” you flashed a friendly yet passive-aggressive smile in their direction and took off after your man, who was outside in the fresh air and taking deep breaths with his eyes closed, like he needed to practice meditation in order to calm down.
“Hey,” you said, grabbing him by the arm gingerly. He pulled back quickly, and his eyes popped open, but once he saw it was just you, he relaxed. “Sorry.”
He shook his head at your little apology. “Don’t be. Are you glad to have met them now?”
There was anger laced in his voice and, while you knew it wasn’t directed at you, it still stung a bit to be talked to like that. He could see it on your face and his features melted into pure apology as he reached for your hand. You let him take it, and he slowly tangled his fingers through your own. You let silence wash over the two of you, because that was what was needed right now. Sitting through lunch with those two people was going to be hell, and you wanted no part of it, but you needed to be there for him.
“You know,” you said, leaning into him a little. You couldn’t help it; he was like a magnet that always pulled you in. “You don’t need them. You have a loving, supportive family at the firehouse. Bobby and Athena can be your new parents. They already act the part.”
Buck let out a soft, sweet laugh. The fact that he found your little quip to be entertaining was music to your ears. “You don’t regret dating me, do you?”
You stared at him, unsure if he was being sarcastic or not. The look on his face told you everything you needed to know. He was really asking. Apparently, his parents verbally beating him up made him question a lot of things. You frowned, thinking at how just a fifteen-minute conversation with Buck’s mom and dad could change almost everything about him, you, and your relationship.
“Of course not,” you responded evenly, without even having to think about it, “I love you for you. You can sometimes be dumb, you know this, but you have a true heart of gold. And honestly, Buck, you are hot as hell.”
He laughed again, this time deeper and genuine. He let go of your hand and pulled you into a sweet hug, holding you tightly against his chiseled physique. “I needed that, thank you.”
You pulled away from him just enough to look at his handsome face. “I mean it. You are perfect. Your parents haven’t seen you in years, they haven’t seen how much you’ve changed. I see you every day. I’ve seen the progression. I’ve seen the pain you went through to be who you are today, and I love you so much for it. Let’s just get through this lunch and send your parents on their way, and you never have to think about them again.”
It wasn’t the greatest speech, but it comforted him. His smile never wavered as he looked at you, soaking in the words as they left your mouth. He nodded in response, feeling a newfound sense of bravery seeping inside. “I’ll do it if you are by my side.”
“There’s no place I’d rather be,” you said, knowing exactly how cheesy that sounded. But you didn’t care.
Buck leaned in, claiming your lips against his own in a welcomed surprise. You went back to leaning on him, his arms snaking themselves around you as he kissed you. Your heart was beating erratically as adrenaline pumped through. Your head was slowly filling up with fog and you were losing all sense of direction. If he wasn’t holding you like he was now, you would have no way of knowing which direction was up. Everything was blurry and out of focus, and it was a state of euphoria that you loved being in.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for the Buckley residence? I have eighty dollars’ worth of Chinese food here,” someone’s voice squeaked into your thoughts, taking root much to your annoyance.
You pulled away from Buck’s lips, looking surprised. “Eighty dollars’ worth of food?” you couldn’t help but ask in shock.
“Okay listen, I was planning ahead,” Buck retorted with a smile. He shrugged like he did nothing wrong, like he was not guilty of spending so much money on a Chinese feast.
“Planning for what?’
“You and I aren’t going to leave the apartment for a couple days. The food is to help us replenish our strength.” He winked at you. Since when did he start winking at you?
“Are we working out or something?”
“Yeah, in bed.”
You slapped his arm with a gasp as he laughed and went to the deliver driver to collect the food. God, he was so good to you, and you had to smile at how happy he made you. The two of you could do this. You could both get through one afternoon with the Buckley’s because afterwards, it would be just the two of you again. No worries, no stress, no fear. You wanted that more than anything.

Pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley X Reader (I tried to make this gender neutral)

Warning: Mentions of bad parenting, I think that’s it...
Summary: After an impressive rescue, (Y/n) ends up getting media attention. Unfortunately, not all of the attention was what (Y/n) wanted. When people from the past come looking for (Y/N), how will they explain what happened to the team?
Author’s Note: I’m actually pretty excited about this. I hope you all like it!

“Look at the hero,” I jumped as Buck walked up and hugged me. “Congratulations!”
“What are you talking about,” I asked. He guided me to the TV in the corner of the room. There I was. “Oh, shit.”
“Look,” he shook my shoulders in excitement. “That’s you! You’re the face of the rescue!”
“I... I,” I didn’t know what to say. This was a new emotion for me. I guess everything had been going so fast that I didn’t even think about what was going on outside of the event itself. “Man.”
“You don’t seem excited,” Buck frowned. I quickly shook my head to clear my head
“I think I’m just shocked,” I explained. Buck hugged me tightly. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” he mumbled back. 
“Good job, (Y/n),” Eddie came over and gave me a side-hug.
“Thanks Eddie,” I grinned.
“Just let us wait here, please,” we all turned towards the main entrance when someone begged. A couple was standing there. Bobby was trying to keep the couple from running around like a chicken with their head cut off.
“Who are you looking for,” Bobby asked, obviously confused and slightly annoyed.
I furrowed my eyebrows, going to take a step forward. I was hoping to back Bobby up but my feet felt like they had been glued to the ground. There was no way. Not after all these years. There was no way. I didn’t have time to stop the quiet gasp that had gotten their attention.
“(Y/n),” my father looked over Bobby’s shoulder. 
Everyone looked at me. I was tense and uncomfortable. I had spent so much time running and now I felt cornered. I backed away from my parents, jumping when I hit Buck’s arm, causing him to grab my arms and keep me steady. I looked at his face. He was confused and shocked. I had always tried to hide my fear or anger but I was vulnerable right now.
“(Y/n),” my mom took a few steps toward me, holding her hands out. She looked like a concerned mother, reconnecting with her child.
“Don’t come any closer,” I said, wanting to sound stronger than I actually did. “Either of you. Stay back.”
“(Y/n), we’re your parents,” my dad replied, walking towards my mother. “We’ve been looking for you for so long.”
“No you haven’t,” I shook my head. “I asked some friends at the police department. There was never a missing person’s case opened for me. Why are you here?”
“We needed to find you-”
“Where was that need when I was 17,” I snapped. The entire team was staring at me. “I ran off to a different state and you didn’t try to find me then!”
“You don’t know that,” my mother shook her head, acting disappointed. “We didn’t know where to look! This recent news was where we got our first hint.”
“Again, where was the missing person’s case?”
“You know we loved you,” my father continued, not actually answering my question. “We looked everywhere with you. And now we found you. You can come home.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” I snapped. 
“We weren’t asking,” my father’s kind shell was starting to crack. “You’re going home.”
“No,” I said. They both stepped forward and I took off.
“(Y/n),” I heard Buck yell. I ignored him.
I don’t know how far I had gone. I just knew that I had given up finding somewhere I felt comfortable. When I stopped and sat on a bench where not a lot of people were, my lungs felt like they were burning, my face was bright red, and I was sweating bullets. 
My sweat was replaced by tears as I laid my forehead on my knees and thought about what had happened. I was shaking and scared. They couldn’t force me to go home. I was an adult now. I made my own choices.
“(Y/n),” I jumped when someone said my name. Buck was walking towards me. He sat on the bench next to me but didn’t say anything else. He wanted me to start this conversation. 
“I ran away,” I started. He grabbed my hand. “I was 17 and I hated where I was. I had basically been raising myself for a long time. If they were there, they were yelling at me. I was working multiple jobs and had been saving all of my money for years. I found myself with a choice. I could either stay and put myself through hell, or leave and find something better.”
“So you came out here,” Buck asked. I nodded. “Did you find it?”
“Find-”
“Something better,” he gave me a sweet smile. I grinned back, scooting a little closer to him.
“Yeah, I think I did,” I leaned my head on his shoulder. “Thanks for coming after me.”
“You would’ve done the same for me,” he replied. I closed my eyes, not saying anything else. “I love you.”
“Really,” I picked my head up and stared at him in shock. He nodded, his sweet smile growing. “I... I love you too.”
“Good because I’m taking you to dinner,” he said confidently. 
“I’d love that,” I chuckled at him. Slowly, I stood up and tried to pull him up halfheartedly. “Come on.”
“You don’t have to see them,” Buck reassured me as he followed my lead.
“Yes I do,” I replied. “I need to tell them that I’m not going anywhere. I have something to be here for. I have someone here now. I won’t let them drag me away from you. From the station. Not yet.”
“Okay,” he nodded, following me. “I’ve got your back.”
“You always do.”
“And I always will.”
