Some more cut content with Lucanis
This time in Weisshaupt library. Dialogue branches that were cut from this wheel. Alas, the audio was also removed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rook: It could work. Lucanis: But it probably won't. Rook: But it might. Lucanis: Sure. And I've got a bridge in Treviso to sell you.*
*Reference to George C. Parker, who among other things, sold bridges that he didn't own. In other words, Lucanis thinks that Rook is very naive.
Rook: It's why you're here. Handle the hard stuff. Lucanis: Might need a raise after this. Rook: Just helping you be the greatest assassin you can be. Lucanis: I already am. Rook: Not 'til you bag a god.
Rook: Watch and learn. Lucanis: After you. Rook: This is how you end an Archdemon. Lucanis: I'm watching. And learning.
Not sure about the context, but it's probably a sarcastic option and Rook is waving a dagger.

spite & lucanis lore from the game files
The demon trapped inside Lucanis's head. Spite was once a Spirit of Passion drawn to Lucanis's will to live, but years of torture and a desire for revenge has twisted him into a Demon of Obession.
Once the heir to the First Talon and the Antivan Crows' best mage killer, Lucanis now bears scars both physically and mentally from his time as a brainwashed executioner for an evil mage cult. No longer the pragmatic assassin always in control, he wrestles with becoming what he's spent his life hunting: a demon-possessed abomination. He longs to return to his former glory, but the monster inside him demands blood and vengeance. With his future hanging in the balance, Lucanis must decide whether to give into the demon or control it.

I’m reposting this with better clarification, but for dataminers using Frosty Editor:
There’s some sort of error with certain WAV’s meaning some cannot be opened right now, and it’s universal across all copies. What happens is that the program tries to load them, then calls quits on a certain number (for instance the audio for the 2nd inquisitor dialogue always fails at track 389, whereas one of solas’s audios fails at track 91), thus causes Frosty Editor to crash. You can tell which one it will crash on if it crashes on the same number the 2nd time you try to open it. After that it’s probably not worth trying to open that file until a solution can be found. I personally can’t tell if it’s an issue with the editor or the ealayer3.dll. But I also can’t tell because I play my video games on windows and not linux.

Something is going on with Retro NSO
I figured this stuff should be part of a post because I think it's an interesting thing to talk about.
As of the last few updates, I started to notice some changes to the NES and SNES emulators specifically, particularly related to emulation of accessories.
NES Four Score
Tumblr media
If you don't know what the NES Four Score is, it's an accessory that allows you to play the NES up to 4 players.
I had actually never really datamined the NES emulator that much but at one point I randomly decided to give it a real shot for the July 2024 update (version 6.9.0).
Then I got actually surprised to notice code for playing using the Four Score, so I eventually went versions back, and found out it was a recent addition of 6.6.0, back in September 2023.
However, it is a little weird, it doesn't seem to be really accurate (to be more exact it only implements one ID for the second controller port, if you know, you know), but it seems functional. In fact in the 6.5.0 update (June 2023), it seemed to have been actually forced on all games, for some reason.
I couldn't notice any code regarding the NES Zapper or any other accessories however, but something that kind of gets me is that I don't notice any code for the Hori 4 Players Adaptor, which is like the Four Score but for the japanese Famicom, and it has some differences on a technical level.
My suspicion is that this was worked on when they were looking into Rare Studio titles, and R.C. Pro Am 2 is definitely a game that uses it. That said, there is one game on NES NSO already that supports the Four Score, but you cannot use it: It's Downtown Nekketsu March Super-Awesome Field Day!, which is kind of a sports games with various sports. (For some reason Nintendo is not using the newly localized ROM and that's a shame.)
SNES Super MultiTap
Tumblr media
This is not new, this was part of the SNES emulator's code the entire time since launch, but considering we just talked about the Four Score for NES, I figured it it would also be a good time to talk a little bit about it, and bring you up to speed.
On SNES, there is the Super MultiTap that can let you play up to 5 players on the same system (it plugs into the second controller port, where you can plug 4 controllers on that, plus the first controller on the first controller port on the system).
There are actually 6 games that can use the Super MultiTap on SNES NSO as of right now, but you cannot play more than 2 players currently, BUT I confirm that it actually does emulate the accessory regardless, just that the application does not let you go past 2 players, but the games do recognize that the device is plugged.
Those games are Super Puyo Puyo 2 (actually available since SNES NSO launch!), Natsume Championship Wrestling, Amazing Hebereke, Kunio-kun no Dodgeball da yo Zen'in Shūgō!, Smash Tennis, and The Peace Keepers.
I figured it would be worth mentioning, because I don't think the addition of Four Score to the NES emulator is just an experiment, it might be possible that SNES NSO might get a major update too regarding the ability to play up to 4 or 5 players for a limited amount of games in the future... especially because of...
SNES Mouse
Tumblr media
Like the Super Multitap, the SNES NSO emulator actually contained code to emulate the SNES Mouse the entire time since launch. However, there has been a new development as of today.
I already talked about this in one of my posts, but I'll just do a roundup of what we datamined in the past: Initially, the SNES emulator checked for specific game identification to enable the SNES Mouse emulation, and looked for 3 specific games.
We don't know what those games are, but considering the limited amount of games, I believe it is reasonable to assume they were limited to games on SNES that only worked with the SNES Mouse and nothing else, in which case, we can assume the following games:
Mario Paint
Mario & Wario
The problem however... those are the only SNES games that released that requires the SNES Mouse to play. You'd wonder what could be the 3rd game that could be best played with a Mouse, but I have a list of what could be it:
Mario Paint (PAL version)
Sound Fantasy
For a few reasons however, I don't believe the PAL version of Mario Paint would be likely, and it leaves the unreleased Nintendo game Sound Fantasy as the other option, we know it was actually completed, and it required the SNES Mouse to play. I won't delve too much on that game, but think of it as a mix of Mario Paint and Electroplankton on DS together, but back in 1994.
In later updates, they removed code that refers to the game identification and relied on game metadata instead. That was done fairly quickly in its life even.
That would have been the end of it if it wasn't for today's SNES NSO update (3.10.0), where a major rework of SNES Mouse emulation was done:
They added the ability to emulate the SNES Mouse on both controller ports, it used to be only on the first controller port.
Internally they can now do input replays of SNES Mouse devices.
There's code for configuring the behavior of the SNES Mouse between either Original, or something else.
This is actually rather interesting, this was added in the emulator between February and August 2024, so this is a legit recent development.
The mention of the SNES Mouse behavior configuration is also interesting, because it means they're looking into ways to support the SNES Mouse in different, possibly more accessible ways than using a USB Mouse.
The fact that they can also emulate the SNES Mouse on both controller ports is also potential evidence that they're looking further into other games than just SNES Mouse only titles, as some games did use the mouse on the second port instead, while leaving the first SNES controller plugged.
To this day, I haven't seen any code for the Super Scope just yet, or the Satellaview for that matter, unfortunately.
Conclusion
Just as a bit of a tl;dr for people who don't like reading:
They secretly added support last year for the NES Four Score to allow 4 player multiplayer, but isn't used yet.
They secretly had SNES Super Multitap support since day one to allow 5 player multiplayer, but isn't used yet.
They secretly had SNES Mouse support since day one, but today (18 September 2024) they released an update that reworked it significantly.
The developers seems to be busy adding or reworking accessories as of the last year. I gotta be honest, I find this a little suspect. We might be going onto something major soon that reworks the NES and SNES applications for multiplayer and more.
I hope so much that would be sooner rather than later.
...also, please, add localized ROMs to NES and SNES NSO. There's no reason not to have them.

Are the new kisses only for Halsin snd karlach im confused
pretty much. wyll also has a 'new' one but it's kind of awkward and.. off?? it's the same old peck but now tav bows after and wyll doesn't react. halsins new kiss is the same animation from his romance scene so it's not brand new. karlachs is entirely new. OH and astarions got a new peck where he approaches you instead of you approaching him. das it!
going by datamines every romance option will have 4 kisses in the future that randomises each time you select the kiss dialogue - as well as hugs (that are for platonic and romantic pairings!) so i guess this is just the first push for this..... i don't know why though.... surely it would be better to do it all at once instead of this

What I'm Working On:
Slightly better title than "Fic Scheduling" but still clunky. I'll workshop it some more.
Currently posting ME fic. "One and Done" will be done this week. "Red Letter Days" will take us into the new year. It's sequel, "Sabbatical" and it's companion "Off the Record" are ready to go right behind it; both are finished but aren't yet drafted to AO3 so I'm not entirely sure the chapter or word counts. It's a lot, though.
Currently playing ME3 so I can finish part 3 of The Chakwas Fic. I know how it goes down, I'm just a stickler for trying to stay reasonably close to canon, so I've got a lot of datamining to do, so I'm writing as I play and playing as I write.
Original Worlds: I wrote a short Original Fiction story just to vent a sadness, and I'm seriously deliberating putting it up somewhere. The OF I was previously working on has been rattling around for half a year now and I think I know how to get past the place I was stuck. Intentionally NOT doing that, though.
Side projects: starting to dabble harder in visual novels and then being hit hard with the OC stick and writing up How My OC Did It and contemplating posting. I've got (finished) stories for three of them now - Blooming Panic, Our Life, and Andromeda Six. Not at all sure I want to post them. If you read this and have an opinion, please let me know, I'm genuinely torn.
Somebody please talk me out of re-writing Howl's Moving Castle from Howl's perspective. I recently read it and decided I wanted his POV and somebody needs to talk me down.
Zelda: I'm at the excerpt-writing stage, where individual scenes scream at me until I write them, and then they go into an unwieldy text file that I read and re-read to get motivation and inspiration and eventually they get copy-pasted out of there into the body of the actual work. Which, if you're keeping track, there will be three of. I've got the Zelda POV well underway, several scenes from the Link POV keeping me up at night, and a full outline for How to Fix "Born a Storm" It is happening, and I am hoping will be what my muse fixates on this winter.
And, as a treat: the Zelda POV will be "Still So It Flows."
"A river is time in water; as it came, still so it flows, yet never is the same." (Leonardo Da Vinci)
The Link POV will be "Restless Waters"
"Do not turn me into restless waters if you cannot promise to be my stream." (Sanober Khan)
Honorable mention:
"Rivers know this; there is no hurry. We shall get there someday." (A.A. Milne)

it doesnt get as much hate as smokeyard but i will NOT stand for lost outpost slander. lost outpost is really good and fun to play on, and the new mechanics in 3 will make it even better. i am now going to have a ted talk about lost outpost under the cut(i am making the assumption the map will be added to 3 due to datamining that hints at every splat2 sr stage returning. this may not be true but i can dream)
the main things to complain about on outpost are the box making things cramped, the grates at the front, and the docks to the side.
the box: ITS ALL PAINTABLE AREA. USE IT!!! you can make so many easy escapes just by painting the box and using the various windows!! if shit sucks, hit da bricks!! yes, it is cramped, but youre given so many ways to escape that you'll only have any real issues if youre totally overwhelmed/have a low mobility weapon. and in 3? SQUID SURGE WILL BE SO FUCKING GOOD. being able to squid surge up the entire wall to vault over the other side will be so fun!!!!!
the grates: not even close to how bad spawning grounds' grates are. like seriously. its all one flat area broken up by small holes or inkable ground. grounds was bad because it was skinny corridors, outpost's is one wide open area. they are not the same. the bits of inkable ground make it much easier to travel, and its much harder to get knocked off because, again, its not a skinny hallway. not to mention the grates are sunk on high tide so they arent even an issue in the arguably most difficult wave
the docks: not to beat a dead salmonid but theyre not nearly as bad as grounds or marooners. theyre closer, are generally wider, and are shorter. theres only really one thats pretty skinny, but its the shortest and close to the basket. the one farthest away has an easy shortcut to the basket by climbing the box wall. and once again, they arent present on high tide!
low tide's biggest issue is the skinny pathways curse, but its not too bad because its all inkable ground, the sides are inkable if you miss jumps, and the area around the basket is large and flat, very easy to traverse. its very much a case of letting bosses come to you
and just. imagine how good egg throwing will be. egg throwing, squid surges, and squid rolls will all be so fantastic on this map!!! throw eggs into the box via the windows, throw eggs across the walkway gaps on low tide, etc!! squid surge up the walls of the box, or squid roll off of them to get around enemies! outpost will benefit more than any other splat2 map from the new movement and egg throwing mechanics in my opinion!
tl;dr lost outpost is my favorite of the splat2 sr maps and im so excited for it to return someday. the new splat3 mechanics will improve it drastically when its already a very solid stage. no more slander on my boy ok

I was confused that after returning from prison of regrets, Rook was immediately dragged to a hub meeting. Turns out that after the prison, your love interest insisted that everyone leave Rook alone and send them to rest. And only then there was a meeting.
Rook: Solas? (?): We're not sure. Probably searching for some way to defeat Elgar'nan. (?): We don't know. Not really. We were so busy looking for you we… lost track. option: It's been two weeks. Rook: I was… what? Two weeks? option: A two-week long day. Rook: Apparently my hard day lasted two weeks. (?): Yes, you were gone two weeks. Which means you need rest, food, and water. (Emmrich?): Yes, my love. Which is why you shouldn't rush out just yet. (?): Enough of this. You need food and rest. We'll talk business later. (Taash?): Yeah. So you need rest. We can talk about the other crap later. Davrin: We'll talk about this later. You need some rest and Assan needs feeding. (?): Everyone please stop. Rook needs rest, and… food, probably… (?): Yeah. A lot happened. But it can wait. Until you've had some rest. (?): Yeah. There's a lot to catch up on. After you rest, anyway. Rook: Thanks, Bellara. Bellara: Of course. I'm here for you. Whenever you're ready. Rook: Lucanis… Lucanis: Go get some sleep before you collapse. If anybody knows how bad that is, it's me. Rook: Taash… Taash: You need rest. I'll make you tea. Do you want ginger or lavender? Rook: Emmrich, I can't… Emmrich: Please. For the sake of one who's missed your company. Rook: Rest? There's so much… (?): There always is. Don't worry. I won't start without you. Rook: I can't rest, there's too much— (?): Who knows you best? Rook: But there's so much to— (?): Please, Rook. For me. option: Then let's all take a break. Rook: Everything you've done, you all deserve a rest as much as I do. option: Not too long Rook: The gods can wait a little while longer. Rook: Not for too long. But fine, I'll go rest. And hey, it's nice of you to care. (?): You're quite welcome. (?): It's good to have you back. (?): I'm so glad we got you back. (?): It didn't feel right with you gone. (?): Rest well, Rook. Davrin: Assan will be happy to see you. (?): Yep. What they said. (?): I'll see you in a bit.
I wonder how the decision was made to remove this content. This is a scene where LI worries and cares about the player's character. No no no, let's cut it!
I mean, if it's in the localization file and translated into 11 languages, then it was most likely already voiced and implemented in the game.

teia & viago character descs from the game files
Passionate, showy, hot-blooded, flirtatious, and arrogantly confident. Teia believes she's a celebrity athlete who will die gloriously before she gets old and live forever in song. She has no guilt about being an assassin, and thinks anyone who judges her for it just doesn't understand how things work in Antiva, or indeed anywhere in the world where powerful men play games. Abandoned as a child, she has a soft spot for the downtrodden.
Calm, ambitious, and ruthless, Viago is the bastard son of the late King of Antiva. As a high-ranking member of the Crows, Viago has just as much influence as the Monarchy, but he still resents the fact that he is not a legitimate heir and feels his birthright was stolen from him. Beneath his cool exterior is a lot of anger and frustration. He will not be satisfied until he sits upon a throne.
