d.p. was good. both seasons but i do think season 1 was better. made me feel a lot of emotions and i think it was a well-made show about a very complex issue and it approached it really skillfully.
i think with media about social issues its very hard to balance it in a way that makes sense because you obviously want to create a satisfying story, but you dont want to fictionalize it to the point where you basically create an alternate universe where actually these two characters just Solved All Violence. i think d.p. managed to do that pretty well and was pretty explicit about how they havent magically just solved all issues, but at the same time, even though there are always so many bad, cruel people in the system which is tough in itself, there will also always be good people who want to fight for what is right.
that being said the ending of season 1 was more impactful to me. something about jun-ho just running. the tragedy of it all, the cruelty, the helplessness, the wordlessness. the way it was even more blatant that there was no straight-forward solution to it all. i think ill remember that scene for a long time.
still, i liked the show a lot, it was heartbreaking on so many levels and well-filmed and oh i looove the intro. i kinda felt like maybe it had some more wasted potential but on the other hand idk maybe it actually did exactly what it shouldve which is not making itself too fun. this wasnt a buddy cop comedy even if there were moments where it felt like it. this was a tragedy without clear answers to the questions it posed.
also i dont like the post-credits scene in the last episode, he shouldnt have lived, it made me happy of course but it lessens the impact of the 1st season. but yea. what a show

I’m watching D.P. 2 and surprise, surprise, I’m still crying. When they went to flashback, I was disappointed because I thought we didn’t need it. I just wanted to see what happens after he deserts.
But I see the reason why they did it this way. Each episode is another reason and another weight on Junho’s shoulders. Another life lost and wasted. Leading him to his ultimate decision.

hi! not sure if this makes the cut, seeing as your request inbox is almost full. but i'd like to request chishiya headcannons with cheerful/outgoing reader but they slowly become the opposite after losing their friends game after game. thank you and have an awesome day ahead! you deserve it!
y'all the new layout on desktop is killing me, wth is going on😭 i ended up adding d.p. and bloodhounds to my list of shows i'll be writing for, so check my rules to see which characters you can request (when requests open, please don't send them in right now or i'll get overwhelmed lol)
anyways here is some chishiya because we all adore him to the end of the earth and back. he's gorgeous i need him so badddd. i maybe got a little carried away :) this was really enjoyable to write
warnings: chishiya and s/o are in a pre-established relationship, angst w/ a happy ending, hurt/comfort, spoilers for s2 at the the end
chishiya with an s/o who loses their cheer
Tumblr media
you were bright. so bright, in fact, that sometimes you blinded chishiya
chishiya knew you. your ups, your downs, your flaws, and your strengths. it would be strange if he didn't given the fact you were engaged before ending up in the borderlands
when you both ended up here, it didn't take him long to realize how big of a liability you were. not only to him, but yourself as well
did he trust you to complete games? yes, he did. you had a strong sense of determination and were 100% a survivor, so he had no doubts there
what he didn't trust was how you would react to other people in your games
being so friendly and optimistic gave you nothing but a disadvantage in this world, and he knew from the start that it would tear you apart
as much as he wanted to distance himself from you the moment you both arrived at the beach, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
he's a clever man who doesn't typically feel much remorse. he knew that if you hadn't been connected to him prior to the borderlands he would have ditched you instantly
but unfortunately for him, he lets his feelings get in the way because you were the one person who could truly make him feel
no matter how tough things were, you would give him a kiss on the cheek and a pat on the back. all the while encouraging him to 'cheer up, you look best when you're smiling'
you continued to shower him with love and affection while you were alone, just like you did in the real world. things were totally different now, but you didn't let that dampen your spirit
you and him were opposite ends of basically everything. you couldn't be more diverse, so it wasn't a shock at how familiar you got with everyone.
and when i say everyone, i mean everyone
you had worked in a social field beforehand, so you tended to be extremely good at memorizing names and facts about a person
it was one of the things that interested chishiya the most. while he encountered many different people per day and ultimately started to forget about them, you kept those you met near and dear no matter how powerful your experience with them
you were a people magnet. you basically radiated a friendly aura, and the other residents of the beach noticed quickly
you got along with mostly everyone (note: mostly. the militants were a different story...)
unfortunately for you, this meant that when you were put in groups for a game, you were bound to know at least one person in your group on a personal level
that is where your downfall began
chishiya knew it would happen at some point. when he saw you walk to your group's car chatting up a storm with one of the other members, he mentally prepared himself to take in your emotions when you came back.
and his speculations were confirmed correct, once again. your body was battered, bruised, and had definitely seen some better days during it's time. the way your eyes moved from one corner of the room to the next was sloppy and dull.
to be blunt? you looked like shit.
but he wouldn't say that, not once. although he had a certain fondness towards snide comments, he also had a fondness towards you. he was aware of what you needed in that moment, and the thing you needed most was him.
the way your gaze trekked through the crowd of people exuded a certain type of exhaustion that one can't explain. it was like you were exerting every ounce of your leftover spirit to find a specific person. and when your gaze finally found him, he could practically feel the tension that lifted off of your shoulders himself.
you moved toward him in such a despairing, yet hopeful way. the way your emotions screamed out to him so prominently was incredible. with just a small movement he already understood exactly what you were thinking and feeling.
when you reached him he gently took your elbow and guided you around to corner, if only to receive a small amount of privacy.
"'shiya..." your bottom lip quivered ever-so-slightly. the emotions swimming through the pools of your eyes were that which he couldn't comprehend. so complex, so telling but so complicated. seeing the exhaustion raking through your entire body, he wished he could understand.
he desired to find some type of mutual emotion in the lingering emptiness, but the small amount of hope in your eyes told him all he needed to know to understand that he was not able to. and he probably never would.
he couldn't give you the solace of knowing what you were going through, so the only thing he could do was bring you into arms.
and you cried. and you cried and you cried and you cried until you couldn't anymore because, for the first time in this damn world, you felt like you could lose everything you had built yourself upon. and it was terrifying.
as time progressed, chishiya noticed the brightness of your eyes leave bit by bit
he had tried to protect you from what he knew would happen, but you were stubborn about what you wanted and stuck in your ways
you thought that making friends would make everything more bearable, but you now realized how foolish you had been
the once starry partner he had known was not diminished to something of an empty shell of what had been
but even then, during quiet nights when the party of the beach had fallen silent and all that remained was you and him, you would tell him about your hopes for the future
you were still there, just nowhere as prominent as before
after the massacre that came from the ten of hearts, you didn't bother talking to anyone that wasn't him at all
the hope in your eyes had fizzled out completely
there were many problems chishiya knew how to fix. injuries? the easiest trick in the book. games? child's play to him.
but your lack of emotion was something he was frazzled on. he truly didn't know what to do, and if he was being completely honest with himself? he hated seeing you like this
you started to remind him too much of himself
empty eyes, lack of empathy for those around you. he felt like he was looking in a mirror and it kinda weirded him out
it wasn't until after he completed the king of diamonds that he decided to ask you about it. and not just make a comment, he wanted to have a genuine conversation with you
unfortunately he didn't get to do so when he wanted to because of niragi's trigger-happy finger
he was in pain and you were panicked and everything felt like too much for you
you were over him in a second with arisu and usagi, holding his face in your hands and crying
but you were crying and you were beautiful and that was enough for him, because FINALLY you were showing some sort of emotion
so when you sent arisu and usagi off to go take down the last two face cards, he felt... relieved
your face was so full of determination as you tried your best to tend to his wounds
he knew that the old you was in there somewhere, he should have expected it to come out in such a dire situation
as the day got darker and his heartbeat got fainter, you whispered out all your feelings and the waterworks would not give you a break
and all he could do was smile at you, which seemed so uncharacteristic but... you had both just been through hell and back, so you took whatever you could get
when the fireworks eventually shot off signaling the end of the game, he looked over at you one last time before making his decision. he couldn't be more delighted with what he saw
your eyes were filled with both love and hope, and things were back to where they should be

Love In The Big City Part I and II: Words and Foods (spoiler free)
I know we're not supposed to start this until tomorrow, but I did my reading yesterday and got sucked into it and ended up staying up late to read part I and II, and being a korean book there's a few words and such that are not translated.
Now, I am assuming that people who chose to partake in this blook club have some prior knowledge of Korea, korean culture and the korean language. I also realise I might be wrong, so with my limited knowledge scraped together over years of series, reading, studying and general interest in all things Korean, I put this together and decided to share it early, thinking it might be of help to someone while reading.
Words
Umma/Eomma [엄마]: Mom (informal)
Hyung [형]: "older brother" (informal), used by a man adressing a (slightly) older man, regardless if they're siblings or not. Can signal some level of closeness.
Hyungnim [형님]: "older brother" (formal/respectful), same as 형, but with the added honorific of ~님 to show respect. Often used jokingly.
Oppa [오빠]: "older brother" (informal), used by a woman adressing a (slightly) older man, regardless if they're siblings or not. Common way to adress an older boyfriend.
Nuna/Noona [누나]: "older sister" (informal), used by a man adressing a (slightly) older woman, regardless if they're siblings or not. Can signal some level of closeness.
Nunim [누님]: "older sister" (formal/respectful), same as 누나, but with the added honorific ~님 to show respect.
Unni [언니]: "older sister" (informal), used by a woman adressing a (slightly) older woman, regardless if they're siblings or not. Can signal some level of closeness.
Sunbae/Seonbae [선배]: senior. A gender-nautral way to adress a senior within your school/workplace/field of expertise.
Young/Young-ah [영 / 영아]: adding the suffix -ah [~아] to someone's name signals closeness and friendliness. It can be used for someone of the same age or younger. Often used when speaking to children. Gender-neutral.
Ajussi/Ahjussi [아저씨]: "uncle", used to adress an older man. Can be used both politely and inpolitely, depending on context. (also an action movie from 2010 that awoke my interest in Korea)
Jeonse [전세]: a common way to pay rent in Korea where you pay in a lump sum rather than monthly, usually for a laese of 2 years.
Goshitel [고시텔]: A combination of the words Goshiwon [고시원] and Hotel, a goshitel is a hotel with tiny rooms, often offering the bare minimum. It's (comparatively) cheap accomodation. (I recommend watching Strangers from Hell, a series from 2019 that largely plays out at a very run down goshiwon)
Hagwon [학원]: evening school/cram school, privately operated, places for extra study outside of school hours to offer students an "edge" in the unhealthily competitive climate that is the Korean school system (Yes, I have opinions about this. No, I do not ever want to study in Korea. I believe Sky Castle from 2018 could give a look into this, but I haven't seen it on the assumption that it would make me too bloody angry)
Hanbok [한복]: traditional Korean clothing.
Foods
Naengmyeon [냉면]: cold noodles! Litterally cold (냉) and noodles (면) - and it's deliscious! I can recommend the soup version on a hot summer day, with ice, chicken and pear.
Seaweed soup [미역국]: said to be nourishing, it is traditionally served to women after childbirth to help them recover. It is also a traditional birthday dish.
Banchan [반찬]: side dishes, of which there are many in Korea! Often vegetable based.
Hwe/Hoe [회]: thinly sliced raw fish. (The Korean version of japanese sashimi, if you happen to know that that is.)
Other
Mandatory military service: Korea has mandatory military service which applies to all men and which women can apply to. It's about 1,5 - 2 years long. Excemptions can be made, but it's frowned upon. It's complicated. (I have opinions about this, too, that I shan't be getting into here. The series D.P. from 2021 digs into the dark side of it, but I haven't seen it yet, again because I think it'll make me mad.)
Itaewon [이태원]: area/neghbourhood in Seoul, known for it's vibrant and multicultural nightlife. Lots of bars and clubs, and a hub for gay people, but I've heard it's lost some of its popularity after Covid and the Halloween tragedy of 2022. (another series recommendation: Itaewon class.)

Here’s a list of all the Kdramas/Korean movies that I watched in 2023 + some of my thoughts (spoiler free)
The Glory
-Gonna be honest, I only started watching because Kim Hieora and Jung Sung Il are in this show.
-But I ended up really liking it. The bullying scenes were horrifying, the characters were memorable, and overall it was very well made.
Stranger
-HWANG SIMOK! I love him so much! BAE DOONA! I love her so much!
-I loved all the characters and all the twists
Stranger 2
-This season was good too. Seeing the dynamics and relationships between all the characters change was so interesting
Unlocked
-IM SIWAN! The reason why I watched this movie <3
-Is it the best and most unique movie? No. Was it pretty good and entertaining? Yeah!
All Of Us Are Dead
-Even in the zombie apocalypse they’re not free of bullying.
-My heart broke many times. Those poor kids didn’t deserve to go through all of that! (Except Na Yeon. I still don’t like her.)
The Glory Part 2
-Not the typical type of revenge. But I think it’s a very fitting ending.
Physical 100
-This show inspired me to start taking better care of myself.
-Watching everyone hype up this show so much then watching all the controversies come out in real time was crazy. Looking forward to season 2
Kingdom
-This show was on my radar because that zombie dude from Physical 100 said he did the choreography
-I love all of the characters and the zombies were so freaky
Kingdom 2
-The Queen might’ve been the scariest part of this show
-I love this show, season 3? Maybe?
Kingdom: Ashin of the North
-Han Ho Yeol from DP?!?!
-It was really interesting seeing another side to this story
Silent Sea
-BAE DOONA! GONG YOO!
-I don’t understand why this flopped. I really liked this show!
Siren: Survive The Island
-I was team athlete til the end! (I thought Kim Seong Yeon was hot)
-If there isn’t a season 2 I’m going to fight Netflix
Misaeng
-Im Siwan <3
-I really like this show. It really gave me hope and it honestly inspired me to work harder. I’m also trying to learn to play baduk
D.P. 2
-So many emotions. The ending left me feeling a bit empty. I’ve grown so attached to these characters and now it’s just over.
The Wailing
-I think I need to watch this a second time to really analyze it.
-I really like the sfx makeup
Monster
-Accurate representation of neurodivergent people/mentally disabled people? No.
-Interesting villain and fight scenes? Yes
Hide and Seek
-I really liked the twist and how eerie the vibes were
Memoir of a Murder
-I love unreliable narrators. Not knowing what’s real and what isn’t really puts you on the end he of your seat
-Also I didn’t even realize that was Kim Nam Gil
The Policeman’s Lineage
-I only watched this for Kwon Yul
-Decent story but I feel like it fell short of its potential
Hansel and Gretel
-Solid start but I didn’t realize that it was going in the direction that it did
-Not the ending that I expected but I’m satisfied with it
Ballerina
-Honestly, they were so over dramatic when it came to the bdsm stuff. Like okay, he’s kinky. That’s the least concerning thing about him.
-My mom got me to watch this because she likes Kim Ji Hoon
The Mimic
-Interesting concept with interesting characters
-The ending was so fitting, I’m very satisfied with it
Champion
-Another movie I watched for Kwon Yul
-I really like this movie, it’s very comforting and funny
Mother
-This is a cautionary tale, you cannot tell me otherwise!
-I was SHOCKED! It was just so sudden. I don’t know how to explain it without spoiling what happened.
Sweet Home 2
-Interesting. I’m not sure what I expected from this season but this wasn’t it.
-I found it entertaining but I’m not quite sure if I like how they’re approaching this new thing that they’re doing.

✨dramas i watched in 2024 and my ratings for them✨
May contain spoilers <3
1. A Shop for Killers, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh this has set the bar for 2024 already....where is next season!!! Had me hooked I didn't even realize it was a series and not a movie. Only complaint is that it needs to be longer!
2. Doctor Slump ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Watched it for the mains but fell in love with the characters. Burnout talk is necessary and I loved seeing Ha Neul's mom/family grow...as a family. The acceptance of Jeong Woo and his story was so so heartwarming and heartbreaking. I would have ate this up three years ago, but I feel like I've seen this before.
3. Flex x Cop ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nice story that kept me engaged though a bit cheesy! A fun watch but I feel like it will not my best "fun" watch this year.
4. Queen of Tears ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the rom com tropes and soo hyun x ji won .....need I say more?
5. Military Prosecutor Doberman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Decided to try another one of Ahn Bo Hyun's drama after Flex x Cop was not a hit. This was MUCH better. I learned a lot about military corruption....but something isn't hitting.
5. The Whirlwind ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Okay, political dramas are Kim Hee Ae's THING bc this was so good. Only thing I hated was that her character was a bit weak in such crucial times....opposite of what she preached and not very girl boss of her smh.
6. Connection ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Watched it for Mi Do but oh my godddd????? A story about friendship in sick and twisted way that I can't help but love. Beginning to end...pacing was amazing, casting amazing, binged it so hard....wish I could watch it for the first time again.
7. The Frog ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (ngl i watched this for chanyeol). Did I just watch a masterclass in acting or what!? Must watch. But I am also in a thriller/murder mystery vibe this year I guess.
8. Collectors (Movie, 2020) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 no 'cause why did I like that??? A story about a corporate chairman that likes dynasty relics and a group of grave diggers that are hired to find a very specific relic. That's all I'll say. But c'mon....
9. Good Partner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The last divorce law drama I watched was Divorce Attorney Shin, I believe (highly rec that one if you like law dramas!). Attorney Shin focused a lot on the main character's personal vengeance and this one focuses on the job itself. Justice for
10. Sweet & Sour (Movie, 2021) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Girl, just watch it. Quick synopsis: how a couple navigates a long term relationship. I thought this was gonna be fun and not that deep but oh myyyyy I was seated. Watch until the end!!!
11. Love Next Door ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh they're so cute. They're so cute! The last time I saw Hae-In was in D.P. and this was so refreshing. Neighbourhood friends....fall in love? Sign me up!!! Took off a star because the characters got on my nerves after a while. Seung-ho loser era was not cool!!
12. Miss Night and Day ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Watched for Lee Jung Eun and Choi Jin Hyuk but got hooked! Fantasy drama about a 28 year old that cannot seem to pass the civil exam and find a job. She got possessed by her dead Aunt though. That's when the fun starts ;) Annoying last two episodes though....
13. Work Later, Drink Now ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you liked Hello, My Twenties! you will LOVE this. Loved this trio. Watch it! (Slice of life-esque).
14. Work Later, Drink Now 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Something different but the same magic as the first series. Love the introduction of new characters and their significance in the girls' lives. Important character development too. Fight and then make up! That's life.
15. Mr. Plankton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Took off a star not because it was bad, but because it was so SAD. Must watch for this pairing and this chemistry. It's currently January 9th...as I'm looking through this list.....I got reminded again how sad this drama was. NEVER again.
16. Virtuous Business ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a fun! one! I loved seeing the friend group develop. The need for a thriller sub plot in all dramas is killing me though ahhaha
17. Marry My Husband ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ binged this and honestly wTF just happened? That was so good LOL. All the characters the viewer is supposed to hate is just soooo hateable. Good on MC! For living her life!
18. The Judge from Hell - y'all I dropped it. It got repetitive :( But it was so good at the start. Not my cup of tea, I guess.
18. When the Phone Rings ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honestly this was about to be a five star in December. I waited until the last episode aired to finish this list. Chemistry was off the charts, story was so wattpad but I ate it up, pacing was soooo good.....but..........all of a sudden there were two episodes that had their own crazy story line at the end. Using an ongoing genocide for plot rubs me the wrong way, I cannot get over that.
Dramas from this list I'll rewatch in the future: A shop for killers, queen of tears, miss night and day, work later drink now

//also, for the record (D.P.3 which I won’t be going to see spoiler below the cut)
Charming potato is NOT Remy. Will never be Remy. I dodged that movie bullet only for Ryan to curse me with that imagery and it’s not appreciated. We do not speak of that bullshit.

Pairing: Established! An Jun-ho/Han Ho-yeol Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Warnings: internalized homophobia, homophobia A/N: Set in season 1. This is written from Hwang Jang-soo's point of view. Our boys are just in the background being observed. I kinda liked the idea of him catching our favorite duo doing something cute like watch the sunrise together. No real spoiler: He absolutely hates it. Word count: 680

D.P. 2 cast reacts to their trailer with "spoilers" [ENG SUB]
youtube
I'm absolutely thrilled for tomorrow's release of D.P. Season 2 on Netflix! The suspense has been building up inside me as I ponder what fate awaits Junho - has he vanished into the unknown or found his way back? My mind races with questions about Jung-seok's actions - did he truly pull the trigger on his friend, or was it a twisted illusion? The thought of Junho and Hoyeol embarking on thrilling adventures keeps me at the edge of my seat. Most of all, I'm eager to witness the intriguing chemistry between Jiseob and Beomgu. It feels like time is crawling as I impatiently await the unraveling of this captivating series. Is anyone else counting down the hours like I am?
