not to be like this but all of the posts (and there are many across multiple platforms) right now going "I mean obviously I'm not mad or whining or anything but it sucks that there's all these three week breaks, how am I going to survive, this is awful, I cannot believe this is happening to me" like, it does in fact come off as entitled no matter how many qualifiers are put onto it

and the a smaller subset of THAT going "CLEARLY C3 isn't a priority for the studio" or "they're obviously trying to kill C3" or even posting stuff that comes off as "um, don't they know that if they keep doing this I won't shop here watch anymore", like, come on

as a tangent, genuinely, I feel like a lot of people have trouble admitting that they don't actually like C3 so they get existentially worried about them losing interest over a slightly longer break because it'll force them to acknowledge that they aren't actually interested, but it's fine not to be interested!

Why I so far don’t really feel comfortable talking about it, I’ve been dealing with a personal hiatus for a little over 2 years, which has caused a sharp decrease of me making posts here on this app compared to a few years prior. Great news, is that the stress from the personal problems has greatly decreased! I’m starting to get back more engaged in the fanbases I’m apart of!

I wanna try to get myself active again, and I realized that making ramble posts and edits that I use to do in the past isn’t working, hence why I wanna do imagines! I have a ridiculously huge beef with the word "Akuma" used in the English translation of D.gray-man. It frustrates me to no end. From what I understand, it means "demon," and from the in-universe conversations the characters have, everybody understands it as just that a "demon" when they hear the exorcist talk about them. Time and time again, people react to the word "demon," whereas the translation sticks to the borrowed word "akuma."

Even the very first conversation Allen has with Moa indicates clearly that she does not hear a specific word describing the specific demons The Millennium Earl creates. She gets confused about mythical beings. She hears just a word "demon" despite the translator using "akuma" first.

Well... we could argue that here Allen explained to her that an akuma is a demon of sorts. Sure, and after that, Moa got confused, but...

There, we have actual civilians. They sure as shit don't know what an akuma is. Only John does. The rest treats it as him having a wild imagination.

Yes, we could technically argue that in this world, "akuma" entered the global dictionary as either a synonym for a "demon" or a sub-species of sorts... but then it is a by-product of the translation. The characters do not really speak Japanese in-universe (unless they are), so it's probably usually English. Or amalgamation of languages, because so many of those are mixed in in the HQ: everybody probably picks up bits and pieces from others....

And I understand even why leaving "akuma" was an appealing choice. It's fun to have a specific word for the evil creatures. But... the conversations... if only people would not get confused about mythical vs. biomechanical creations, I probably would never even bat an eyelid while reading this. But they are, and I get ridiculously (even to myself) miffed by the term 😂

Considering writing a Daemon AU for D.gray-man, but is the fandom even alive enough to read it????

I like the idea of the complications of necromancy and akuma and Noah when your literal soul is something outside your body, something physical and visible.

What magic is used to get around it? What ways do Akuma affect Daemon? Does the magic keep the daemon whole, controlled by the new invading soul in it’s body? Do daemons shift with the new owner, the new soul, or does the Akuma magic keep them trapped in this form, tortured as much as the other half of their soul, chained to a form not meant for itself? Do akuma’s souls feel it, when you touch their daemon? I can’t imagine they react outwardly, but perhaps through Allen’s eye, he can see them flinch, see them scream and cry and beg for mercy for their daemon, if not for themselves. Can Allen see the daemon’s soul as well, it’s true form, chained and restrained and tortured within itself?

What do Daemon mean for Noah? I like the idea that they unsettle when Noah are reborn, that the rebirth changes them so fundamentally that their daemons must change as well, must rediscover what and who they are. But do they always resettle into the same form as their previous lives? I doubt it. There seems some separation, at least for Tiki, from the original Noah memory. But for Wisely, it seemed to be a one-to-one reincarnation. Perhaps it depends on the individual, on how much they remember and connect with their previous selves, on how much they identify with them.

And what of the Second Exorcists? Are they reborn with their daemon? Do they even HAVE daemon anymore, or did they fail to follow them into this life? If they did, are they the same as they had been the last time? Do the souls remember, even when the brains do not? Do the daemon remember their past lives? Do they see these children as themselves, or are they so different that even the other half of their souls can no longer recognize them? Or are the daemons just as clueless, just as new?

And Neah… is he still considered alive? Does his daemon remain, alive and alone? Does his soul still long for his brother, for his best friend? Do they need to stay nearby, need to cling to the other half of their soul?

Oh god. Oh god Timcampy is Neah’s daemon. Hidden in plain sight, disguised as a golem.

Wait. Neah and Mana were the same person once. Could Timcampy be BOTH of their daemons??? Ohhhh boy, and combined with the theory that Mana sealed his soul inside Allen with the curse, and how much Mana cared about his little Pierrot, and how much Neah and Allen had to care about each other for his reset to make sense, of course a piece of their soul would love him too, of course a piece of their soul would mourn him even if Neah would not allow himself to, and of course their daemon would WANT TO STAY CLOSE-

I may be posting some polls soon about what Daemons characters should have, or I may go take that one weirdly-specific Daemon quiz from the perspective of the characters.

Hello, just wanted to let you know that I've been hooked on City of Blank ever since I found it a few weeks ago. It's been an incredibly compelling read. One thing I was curious about is what were your main sources of inspiration for creating this story from various media films/books etc (if any). I've noticed that the Scion's seem to share a few similarities to the symbiote's from Spider-Man, or have I completely misread that? Thank you for an entertaining read and best of luck in the future.

Thank you! It sincerely means a lot that people are still finding CoB and giving it a chance despite it's length. I've said it before, but sometimes I feel like it's kind of sour milk on WT haha. It's just too old and long for new readers to give it a chance.

To answer your question...

Most of the inspiration comes from media I consumed back in middle school when I actually came up with the idea. I know the main inspiration was a short anime film called Kakurenbo which kind of got me into my mask obsession.

It made me wanna make a story where everyone wears masks. The blanks kind of followed from that premise as a reason for everyone to have to wear masks.

Spiderman definitely had...nothing to do with the scions, though I totally get why people go there. Spiderman wasn't really relevant when they came around (at least not beyond like the Toby Mcguire films lol) and definitely not Venom.

Besides, I can absolutely tell you that the evil other half 10000% came from Bleach and Hollow Ichigo.

I have like a super distinct memory of wanting to give Rex an evil other half after the reveal of Hollow Ichigo. I was obsessed haha. (A reminder that I came up with CoB when I was like 13 LOL)

Some other major early influences are definitely Trigun, which I think super influenced the world. It's probably why CoB is in a desert city with so many sand-stone buildings.

The very first version of CoB was very very very reminiscent of the scenery in Trigun, though I think my time in San Francisco had a lot of influence on how it is in the Originals version. Unfortunately I don't have the budget or time to depict Glory City as well as I'd like to, but I imagine it's like a desert version of San Francisco, except flat.

Lastly, I know some characters that have have MAJOR influence on some of the characters are Luffy, Yato (Noragami), Rin (Blue Exorcist) for Rex. Slightly more recent, but I am 100% positive Jericho became a lot goofier after I got MAJORLY into the like...Team Skull fandom and became obsessed with Guzma haha.

Lastly, Rex's scion ended up getting WAY sassier and having more personality after I caught up with D.Gray-Man only last year or so. I kind of loved how Noah (?) behaved in the more recent chapters and I think it ended up influencing me to make scion way, way, way more sassy than I was originally planning.

WiP - D.Gray-man Black Order Cabinet ft. Hevlaska

Finally getting the backdrops done after putting them off for ... months. I had several ideas for the Black Order themed cabinet but ended up doing a big painting of Hevlaska with some sculpted Innocence. I had planned to use efaplast but it was too brittle and I went with apoxy, it turned out a bit different than imagined but it's close enough to go with the overall vibe of my vision.

You also can see my little army of rolling heads here, I hope to get some work done on some of them soon, like giving Lavi a wig or Adam a face up C:

Frankly I'm one of the people who can't really stand Jinshi in Apothecary Diaries (him disrespecting Maomao's boundaries hit too close to home to an incident I had) but considering how popular he is and people instantly think JinMao is a good ship (they made up like half of Apothecary Diaries' content on pixiv) even when MaoMao was clearly uncomfortable with him early on (and Natsu Hyuuga had only intended him as a comic relief character) made me wonder if Soul had started out with that bishonen look he had at the latter half of the story, soma would be more popular too (since I did notice Soul solo fanarts are quite rare compared to other characters despite being the 2nd most prominent character after Maka)

Dynamic-wise Soma is super good and contains a boatload of tropes to play around with, it can be made wholesome (the fact that these two are ride-or-die bestfriends and roommates who had known to take care of each other) or angsty (these two had an equal amount of baggage and are both emotionally constipated in some ways) thus this ship is incredibly flexible. So I always feel like these two should be way more popular (it already is, but I expect it won't just make up 9% of the total pixiv SE content, I think it should be way more)

I chalked it up as such since back when I was younger what did help keeping me from seeing Soul and Maka in a romantic way was Soul's weird design in the beginning, he looked way too much like a goblin I only saw him as just Maka's sidekick (well until the story went on and on showing just how sweet their relationship is as absolute equals) and then the artstyle of the manga changed and Soul ended up looking like a D.Gray Man ripoff and that's when the ship became more appealing visually.

So honestly, I'm totally on board when if a reboot gets made, the artstyle will be closer to Fire Force and follows the artstyle from volume 16 onwards. I imagine Soul will start off looking closer to how he looked in the NOT anime (cuter and less like Gorillaz' 2D) which might help him get some immediate fanbase right off the bat and less people overlooking his genuine good traits (if people can overlook Jinshi's creepy behaviors because he is hot then so can Soul, poor guy in some corners only got remembered for his ribbing of Maka's tits and not the gajillion sweet and selfless stuff he'd done for her)

Random D.Gray-Man Noah head cannons because im stuck in an overnight shift and im beyond bored

Since the Noah have existed for 7,000 years, they can understand (maybe) every language thats existed in human history, or at least the more commonly spoken language

Tyki speaks Portuguese, and sometimes speaks in Portuguese while speaking english. “Listen here merda *insert more dialogue”. I also head cannon he swears in Portuguese “Filho da puta!”

Road prolly has a cavity wirh the amount of sweets she eats. Its prolly the back tooth

Skinn has a Louisianan accent

Honestly D.Gray-Man characters canonically speak english, i imagine them having accents based off where they are from since their VA’s have American accent (before anyone attacks me i love their english voices i really do-)

Sheril has a gummy smile and you cant rip this head cannon off my cold hands

Jasdevi hates oysters….idk why i head cannon this i just do-

Lulubell is the best ballroom dancer out of all the Noah but because of how reserved she is, she doesn’t dance in front of everyone. (But she prolly did with Mimi before she was killed)

For some reason i like head cannoning Mightra as an older-ish (early 30s) woman, even though their identity is canonically unknown. Honestly i would love another noah thats a woman im desperate-. Like i can just imagine Mightra as like having Lulubell’s personality but more uptight since they are in charge of performing maintenance in the ark. Not like strict but straightforward.

Since wisely is nosy with his mind reading abilities, i can easily imagine the rest of the noah (especially sheril) imagining something explicit or something bizarre just so they can annoy Wisely while hes trying to read their minds. “Jasdevi why are you imagining an akuma dressed as a clown?”

Wrathra is probably gonna be the youngest character since they are gonna reborn at some point, but i like to head cannon that they find wrathra when they are a baby (as in after they are born since wisely can prolly find them?). Sheril will prolly adopt them since he adopts every being in sight-

Tricia knows the Noah’s plans and is an ally to the Earl, and chooses to remain happily marry Sheril in the process to assist them (damn i forgot she existed)

They host game nights. Tyki likes to gamble. He always loses because of wisely cheating with his mind. “pedaço de merda sobrinho.” “Haha get recked”

Bonus: if they were in a modern au i can see Road doing mukbangs with candy. I can honestly see it. Jasdevi would try to be the goth kids (but the family always mistaken them to be emo, they will throw a temper tantrum). Sheril will probably be laughing at minion memes on facebook. Everyone would probably thirst for Tyki on social media while hes the polar opposite in real life (ultimate troll)
