As added I decided to record part of my long journey from they place I stay to the uni campus . From this you can hear what I hear daily as I go on my travel. Certain sounds are a mental map to me which I find is an interesting thing about us how all sense can mark or map ideas and work. Such as the Lound screech of the train with thumps to me could mean the stop in the central lines and they are ab older line or even the doors squeak. What is not heard in this alot is the stories that get told from everyone in the train . The laughter the screams the huffs and puffs its all a map all a tale of where someone has been or even where they are going .it's interesting how to some a train is relaxing or even a hobby to me its just a need to help me get by a convince if so as the sounds will always be abhorred or muted by the music on my phone . But on the other hand because of it I see in a different view a window to the world showing me new things and places to go or giving landmarks of where I been . That is what the drawing is about inspired from a artist I did to show a map for myself keg de souza has a intersection mind to show landmarks like a train stop . It marks location and even then areas close for more landmarks a convince indeed to allow exploration and for the mind to wander whats at that stop ? Only one way to find out :) the second post is relying on the sense of sound more to guess or think what it sounds like so the screech of a train like nails on a chalkboard the speakerphone blaring safety to even getting help with which line to use . I wanted to test both mind and ears to see what I could hear or think about as an artist and doing a map and layout helped me do so . Studying the dèrive really opened a new page for me as it allows me to see with more then my eyes but also my mind and my senses it helped me be creative and thoughtful . It allows me to open it through a 3d perspective in a way to see in and out of how it looks as a foreigner to the sight and as an artist willing to express .

Keep Walking Intently dèrive:
Guy Debord defines the practice of the ‘dèrive’ ( in his book ‘The Theory of the Dèrive) as a period where individuals or small groups, ‘drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions ofthe terrain and the encounters they find there’. So in order to try fully experience the dèrive myself, instead of taking my usual route home, I allowed myself to wander whatever way sparked my interest. This journey, although unplanned, resulted in the emergence of several patterns and themes - the most prominent being that of nature. Every time I came to a crossroad or had the option to choose what path to take, I always took the route which was more natural. Debord may describe this subconscious decision making of choosing the more rural over the urban as a ‘habitual axis’, or a ‘pivotal point’, in which I’m always ‘drawn back’ to. If I consider why this could be the case, I’m inclined to believe that it may link back to growing up in a rural area and being accustomed to green spaces rather then tower blocks.
However, I also found myself interested in the interactions between living things, as Chombart de Lauwe notes, ‘an urban neighborhood is determined not only by geographical and economic factors, but also by the image that its inhabitants and those of other neighborhoods have of it’. This aspect of the urban lifestyle heavily contributed to my dèrive, as my focus was often found to be on how individuals reacted to others and the natural environment around them. Therefore, my attempt at the dèrive fell to be more on ‘studying the terrain’ rather then ‘emotionally disorientating’ myself.

Ways I can approach ideas for my dèrive
-drawing
-print making
-texture
-photography
-nature photography
-street photography
-building photography (arctecture)
-still live photography
-photogrammetry
Local landscape I want for my dèvire:
I want to photograph somewhere where there’s lots of greenery and nature I feel as if it would make my dèvire have a more peaceful look to it and people will find it relaxing to just view the images as it’s not someplace urban.
I’ll include typeface in the photographs I take to create words or sentences in my dèvire.
Places (new) I would like to visit and take photographs:
I’ll be going to new places and following my gut to see what photos I can take in my local area around hodge hill ward end and erdington.
The places I’ll be going to will be:
-ward end park
-hodge hill area shops
-erdington to capture stree/arctecture photography
I’ll be visiting shops around these areas that might have interesting type faces as their names and making sure to keep an eye out for anything else I could camera with my camera that would be perfect for my dèvire.
I feel as if these areas are perfect as there’s lots of beautiful nature in the parks and hodge hill area also has nice buildings I could take photos of. I know no matter what area I’ll visit i will see typography everywhere I go so that’s amazing for the photography I’m going for my dèvire.
The visual approach I’ll be using will be a mix of print making and digital as I can work in both areas and I think creating a dèvire thats uses both correctly will make it successful and worth viewing.
I want to create something that includes Lino work as well as digital graphics so for example print making I need supplies like Lino and inks/paints and for the digital graphic design pieces I’ll be using apps like Adobe photoshop and Adobe illustrator.
I will be print making or digitallizing my photographs I had taken from my walks. I’ll be using my nikon camera to capture these images so they come out in good quality.
The media I will do for my final dèvire design will be done by hand and not digitally produced as I want textures to be involved as by doing it digitally it be impossible therefore I’ll be doing mines by hand so the texture and every detail done by print making will be seen in my final piece.
Style ?
I will be going to more on a fantasy type of narrative-more creative and interesting for my audience so it makes them think about my story when they go for walks.
Theme?
-Natures beauty
-Creative/imaginative
-Adventures during Covid
-Fantasy
Colours-
Coloured- not black and white photography ( which will make it more eye catching towards my audience).
Photography-
-nature theme photography
-journey walks (daily)
-typefaces and shops
-plants ,trees and s flowers
-landscape
-arctecture
-outdoor (earths beauty)
Story/narrative-

Our first dèrive - Digbeth
An in interesting place with a lot of different street art and odd buildings to explore.
On this dèrive we were taking in and considering our surroundings, and what emotions and feelings this contributed to the narrative of this small area. We noted the difference between the old, battered buildings and the vibrant and modern graffiti coated over the top.
Although these street art pieces make for fun projects, we wanted to chose a topic that not everyone was going to focus on, and decided to change our path. I felt that is discarded idea was useful to document as it showed the authenticity of our decision making process and why we chose to look someone else, rather than settling for a popular location.
I was still happy with how some of these pictures turned out, and who knows - we may or may not decide to return to these during our design process.

#4588 Microbrasserie Les Insulaires La Dèrive (Canada) NEIPA, baby. Been waiting for this. The name means “drift away”, as all (we’ll, most) of the beer names are Island-related. Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe hops give it the fruity vibes, creamy and smooth, dusty and chalky, with a dry finish. Love it. Dèrive
For this project, our group realised that for our final outcome we were to make a zine, which is a mini magazine that is normally more fun, and produced by independants to convey a message or a story. This zine should also be based on the topic space and place and the psychogeographic aspects of this, as well as including a narrative. After our first drift in Digbeth, we spoke to our lecturers and came to the conclusion that making our zine based on Digbeth could be limiting. So, we began a new journey and went on a dèrive around the bullring in Birmingham. We were quickly directed to the bull, a huge bronze statue in the centre. We decided to take a lot of photos and videos of it and then research the area for possible information for our zine.
I was extremely interested to find that the bullring has huge amounts of history, with the area surrounding the bull statue being used for bullbaiting many years ago, a sport where dogs were set on bulls to tenderise the meat, enjoyed by Elizabeth I. This was very interesting to me and made a base for my group and I to begin reseraching the other important factors that made up Birmingham and investigating what makes Birmingham the ‘place’ that it is today.

Our Dèrive
Although it surprises me to report this, our dèrive introduced me to a side of Rome that I was not expecting to encounter. We attempted to follow our rules as closely as possible, and for the most part, we assumed that we would walk in a straight line until we encountered the catalyst for our next step. This led us into a number of dead ends. Running into dead ends presented us with a problem at first, because we had wanted to commit to walking in straight lines. Suddenly, this was no longer possible. We eventually decided to yield to whatever seemed like the most appropriate course of action in the situation in which we found ourselves, so sometimes this meant turning around and walking down an adjacent street until we reached a place where we could continue walking, sometimes it meant moving on to our next rule, and sometimes it meant foregoing a rule for the time being and returning to it later.
Our dèrive was carried out entirely in neighborhoods with which I was quite familiar, so I was anticipating that I would not experience any particular insights about the streets themselves that we were traversing. However, the numerous dead ends that we ran into among these streets surprised me. In my wandering of these neighborhoods from weeks prior, I had always followed the motion of the streets in what felt to me like an organic way, taking turns when I felt like taking turns and walking down whatever streets interested me. Rome seemed to me to be filled with the “vortexes” we talked about, in the form of charming and inviting spaces that were accessible by streets that guided me to new delights at every turn. Our dèrive gave me the opportunity to realize that these very neighborhoods also contains spaces that are less inviting, that discourage the pedestrian from continuing, a simple but effective form of psychogeographical manipulation that I would never otherwise have noticed.

Through time the old nature is taken away from us and surrounded by concrete forests of noise and fog that to some nature is scary . As in the sounds of nature the call of a bird . What is it to a new person a sirens call ? Or still a beautiful song that brings relief . The crunch of leaves could make one anxious or satisfy the mind on who lives in the sound of trains roar . Everything is now packed and done for us how do we know what is safe and what could kill ? My dèrive is simply an old walk one surrounded by trees in a balance of fear and wonder of nature , to see it bend and winde trees around and to lure Berries to the once curious cat . But also the new modern can be what is a dèrive inspiration to the looming building and long alleyways to the constant traffic puzzling the pieces of the senses together . That is a derive to me a clash of life to new age creations a true melody and clash of colours bold or dull inspiring for different things . To say they are different is wrong as they do have such similarities the long empty walks of a forest could be an empty or even crowded walk in the tube lines both with an equal erie . So to say a derive can only be an open hike to me is wrong as new age u can get lost in a walk and even discover a sound or sight that makes u feel delight .

Mini Practical Task
We were given old magazines, scrap bits of paper, old maps and other random pieces in order to assemble our dèrive onto paper. I enjoyed this chance to be more hands on and creative, working outside the restraints of a sketchbook to make something our of the ordinary and make less conscious decisions to experiment openly with the materials we have to select. I chose to use the old map, to rearrange what was shown, ensuring the orange lines on the map were matching up. We then layered over the top our actual derive to Digbeth, and then to the Bullring. We chose to cut out different type letters to give an edgier appeal, and added more context dependant images we found to link with what we saw when we were in theses places, and what caught our attention most.

#126 The Home of Craft Beer in Laval with Guillaume Ouimet (Les Insulaires Microbrasseurs)
Laval, the island just north of Montreal, isn't widely known for its locally brewed craft beer. That's because there literally hasn't been any for quite some time, that is until Les Insulaires opened in November 2018. Situated a short drive north of the main island, Les Insulaires is a gorgeous, Instagram friendly brewpub, bar and cafe that is truly providing a home for local brew heads. We caught up with co-owner Guillaume to chat about how it all happened. Cheers!
Beer Reviewed: Les Insulaires La Brume; Les Insulaires La Première; Les Insulaires La Balise; Les Insulaires La Péninsule; Les Insulaires L’Utopique; Les Insulaires La Dèrive; Les Insulaires L’Oasis; Les Insulaires La St. Onge; Les Insulaires Ma Banlieue.
