Bhínn ag lorg aoibhneas i rudaí as an ngnáth.
Anois, tá mé á lorg sa mbliain taobh thiar dhom,
Na rudaí beaga, bhíos cinnte go dtarlóidís.
Na comhráite beaga, an cogarnaíl,
Agus na géibhinn a fuaireadar!
Bíonn athruithe iontacha ann,
Ag fás anuas, do chéad grá,
An lá deireanach den bhunscoil,
Ach bíonn cinn níos... measa ann.
Cosúil leis an gcás seo...
Scartha,
Ó na rudaí beaga siúd.

It’s here in my hands!

[image description: a photo of a page of a book that reads:
Agus Arís
Bhí dánta scriofa trí Gaeilge agam roimhe sin
Scriobh mé focail ar an leathanach -
ainmneacha, briathra, aidiachtaí, ceisteanna...
Labhraim Gaeilge mar leanbh ar an ruga urláir;
lámh ina béal agus níl aon fiacla air.
Leagaim focail ar duilleog bhán mar bloicini tógála,
ach ritheann mo mhadra istigh.
Sleamhnaíonn sí ar an urláir;
caitheann sí mo focail suas sa spéir roimh
buaileann siad an talamh le ruaille buaille.
Agus agus agus- deir mé focail Béarla.
Nil aon Gaeilge i mo cheann níos mó.
End description.]
A poem of mine as Gaeilge has been accepted to be published by an annual journal run by my uni! They’re looking for the absolute final draft and I’m quite excited. It feels so much more real now!
I have previously been published in this journal - two poems last year and one the year before - but this will be the first thing I’ve written in Irish. Come summer I will technically be a bilingual published poet.
#i’d better put more effort into learning and practicing irish not just bumbling along with my sixth class knowledge and gut instincts that#my own post#filíocht#gaeilge

It was good to be in the studio again recording songs and poems for a new art project. I recorded a new song with my brother Fionnán @fionnan1. I'll keep you posted! Bhí sé go deas a bheith sa stiúideo arís ag canadh agus ag taifead amhráin agus dánta do thionscamh ealaíne nua. Thaifead mé amhrán nua-chumtha freisin le mo dheartháir Fionnán. Coinneoidh mé ar an eolas sibh! #lasairfhíona #lasairfhionanichonola #lasairfhíonaníchonaola #aransinger #sean-nós #sean-nos #seannos #irishsongs #gaeilge #amhráin #danta #dánta #gaillimh #anspidéal #ireland (at An Spidéal, Galway, Ireland) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ega1XjUbe/?igshid=1a2lrhvipkuoy

An bhfuil Gaeilge agat? (This is my main blog, my new langblr is tapaighandeis)
Tá Gaeilge agam ach ní mé an-mhaith. Tá mé ábalta ag caint faoi dánta agus tá mé ábalta ag scríobh scéalta. Ar an drochuair, tá Gaeilge i scoileanna faoi fhoghlaim de ghlanmheabhair.
I even had to use a dictionary for three words oops. I can speak, read and write German significantly better than I can speak, read and write Irish. Even though I have been learning Irish for 11 years so far and German for three. I have three years of school left so I will have learned Irish for 14 years and German for six. I don’t hate Irish, I’m quite neutral to it sadly.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the passion for Irish and not many people here do. Irish education in schools is not great. In Irish class, we rote learn poems. We learn how to answer questions on the themes and characters in the poems. We learn summaries of stories. For our oral exams, we rote learn sentences and answers to say. We are so used to rote learning that it is hard for us to make up Irish on the spot and we are encouraged to rote learn because our grammar would not be good enough if we wrote it ourselves.
Our tenses are not properly taught. People seem to be decent at either present or past and then awful at the other and the future.
I could go talking about the Irish education system for a while but I’ll stop haha.
It’s lovely to see people outside of Ireland with such passion for the Irish language though! There are a lot of non-Irish people on Tumblr and it does make me want to try and learn Irish better sometimes haha

Soilse gheala,
Dofheicthe, soilse éigineáil á gclúdach.
Soilse fhuara, mhílítheacha,
Is na réaltaí ina bhfolach.
Teastaíonn siad uaim,
Tádar sólásach agus dírímh.
Nuair atáir fúthu,
Ní mhothófá tada seachas iontas.
Ach tádar clúdaithe,
Cailte
Faoi scáth an Daghdha.

Mo bhláthannaí,
Bhíodar grá mo chroí.
Bhíodar geall, beomhar,
Ag damhsa sa ngaoth,
Marbh, i sneachta an gheimhridh.

Spotsolas lasta ar an aimsir chaite.
Mo bhotúin, na timpistí,
Chuile shonra feicthe
Aríst is aríst eile.
An aimsir chaite thréshoilseach.
Seasann an aimsir láithreach taobh thiar di.
Bíonn sí mothrach taobh thiar di,
's caitheann an caite dathanna ortha.
Fanann an todhchaí sa dorchadas,
Ag tíocht sa solas in áit an láithrigh.
Bíonn sí gan chruth cinnte
Go dtí go soilsíonn na soilse ortha.
Fanfaidh
An neamhchinnteacht sin
Go deo na ndeor.

Braithim an neirbhís.
An scrúdú ag teacht chugam
Nó mise chuige.
Ní fhéadaim aithint
An bhfuil tuilleadh deánta 'am
Gan tuilleadh ama?
Tagairtí, scéalta,
Téamaí agus mothúcháin, gach
Rud féideartha 'am.
Ní mhothaím go bhfuil
Chuile rud ansin tuilleadh
An gradam a fháil.

Does anyone have the poems Póg or Dúil by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill? I borrowed Rogha Dánta from the library last year and translated both poems but stupidly forgot to note the original Irish

Agus Arís
13/01/2022
Scríobh mé dánta as Gaeilge roimh.
Chuir mé focail ar an leathanach -
ainmneacha, briathra, aidiacht, ceisteanna.
Deir mé Gaeilge mar leanbh ar an ruga urláir;
lámh ina béal agus níl aon fiacla air.
Cuireann mé focail ar duilleog bhán mar bloicíní tógála,
ach ritheann mo mhadra istigh.
Sleamhnaíonn sí ar an urláir;
caith mo focail suas sa spéir roimh
bhuail siad an talamh le ruaille buaille.
Agus- agus- agus- deir mé focail Béarla.
Níl aon Gaeilge i mo cheann níos mó.
Rough translation:
And Again
I've written poems in Irish before.
I've put words on the page -
nouns, verbs, adjectives, questions.
I speak Irish like a babe on the rug;
hand in its mouth and no teeth.
I put words on the blank sheet like building blocks,
but my dog runs in.
She slips on the floor;
my words are thrown into the air before
they hit the ground with a racket.
And- and- and- I say an English word.
There is no more Irish in my head now.
#tá mé ag obair ar an...nuachtán lítríocht? agus léigh me a lán dán agus scéal. bhí dán amhain as gaeilge#agus bhí brón orm mar ní fhíos agam. so. scríobh mé an dán seo#anois#i don’t think this is perfect and it wasn’t meant to be. I wrote it quickly and out of frustration#I’m sharing it here because I think a lot of ye probably feel similarly#as gaeilge#my own post#Gaeilge#filíocht
