Meanwhile, Benvolio’s probably sipping on a nice green or white tea. Ya Bao, maybe, or Clouds and Mist? (I haven’t quite nailed down Benvolio’s tea preferences, but I’ll figure it out over the course of yet another retj college au that no one wants or needs.

No hate to people who like matcha lattes, of course. I work at a tea shop and I like those trendy matcha bevs as much as the next person. ;)

Musical streams are back! We’ve taken 5 weeks off, but now we’re back! Last time we streamed for 39 weeks in on Kosmi, this time I’m streaming them directly in my europeanmusicals Discord server. This change in streaming platform is because Kosmi didn’t accept a lot of video types and so I couldn’t stream certain musicals, but I will be able to stream those musicals through Discord.

Streams take place on Saturdays at 9pm UK time (BST/GMT depending on daylight savings). Some may be postponed by a week if I’m away. Not all have English subtitles so check below. More musicals may be added. Any updates will be posted on Discord. We are watching musicals that we did not watch in the first 30 weeks. If there’s a musical missing you want to see, let me know, we may have already watched it but we’re okay with re-watching musicals. You can take a look at the last shedule to see if there’s anything you like and want to be able to see.

During the mid finale scene which is before when Phil runs around town doing “errands”, Matthew Warchus comes out and informs everyone that they will skip scenes due to the tech issue and just go to the scene of the song where Phil and Rita have their dance and from there.

Thoughts on GP's Autant en emporte le vent?

Such good timing, anon, because lately I’ve been wanting to re-watch it, it’s been years since I’ve first seen it; but I’d like a version with at least French subs and I haven’t found that yet, damn it. Working off on purely memory, though, apart from a few ear-catching bangers (I still remember Nous n’sommes pas, and Putain), it is so much weaker than his RetJ, definitely, both music and story. I do recall being impressed with Laura Presgurvic as Scarlett; I know a lot of people hate her vibrato, but I did not mind it, as she overall did suit the role in both looks and acting, and her thin voice was even fitting (also, Ashley really does suit Cyril Niccolaï better than any role he has done so far; it’s sort of eerie). The rest of the cast, some of whom went on to the Revival RetJ, worked better in this one, I feel.

As far as the adaptation goes, this is probably the best musical adaptation of this beast of a novel, hitting on the most important aspects of the story and even giving the slaves more a voice; no thoughtless hero-worshipping of the flawed material, good. Presgurvic has an odd talent of adapting otherwise difficult or unconventional works for music in such a way that captures the spirit of the original work while discarding or deemphasizing the rest that do not work; it’s something not all composers know how to do. Had it had a better score it could have been something.

But yeah, this is definitely the Midsummer Night’s Dream/Twelfth Night to Presgurvic’s R&J (ha)/Hamlet—an auxiliary work that has some strong moments but that is a pale shadow of the better hit.
