I just love every single actor in this musical number. Magnificent trio.

The new Cyrano movie is incredibly sad and moving. But, in the end, the main characters didn’t make me cry. That’s not to say the actors didn’t do a good job; Peter Dinklage was literally made for this role. And while I was incredibly touched by all the characters, I didn’t cry. Not until this motherfucker showed up on screen for a whopping minute and a half to sing about his dying father and his last wishes before dying. He put so much soul into the one verse that he sang and I just couldn’t help it. He proved that there are no small parts just small actors.

in case you all are wondering, i watched wishbone* version of cyrano de bergerac as a child and the premise changed my brain chemistry forever. in high school my friend came out of french class complaining they were watching some old french movie called cyrano and i skipped class to go watch the second half of the movie the next day. peak shipping scenario. you've actually definitely seen cyrano inspired plots!!

the premise for anyone who still hasn't looked it up: cyrano is ~~ugly~~ and in love with a beautiful woman named roxane. roxane is in love with a dude named christian, who is generally less talented than cyrano but more conventionally attractive. cyrano ends up writing love letters to roxane for christian, and roxane falls in love with "chistian" via his letters. however, in face to face conversation, christian is still lacking, and so there's a famous scene where cyrano hides and feeds christian lines. this is where the trope "playing cyrano" came from. also the play (originally in french) apparently introduced the word panache into the english language.

*wishbone is a children's show about a jack russell terrier who acts out classic literature and stories, and is the sole reason i know the premise for a lot of famous stories. a family i babysat for got the same type of dog so i started watching episodes with the kids and IMHO i think it still holds up. would recommend if you need entertainment for a child

i feel like in almost every piece of content I've watched, there is what I like to call an "Ayshan". This is NOT a bad thing, by the way.

So this is basically from when i interned at the theatre I want to work at at some point, and I met one of the actors there. She's honestly the sweetest woman I've ever met, and I hope all good goes her way.

What I like to call an "Ayshan" is a character or a person who's genuinely just,, nice to everyone they meet. Someone filled with love and great energy, but also a little bit chaos. They have so much love to give, and they're so great to talk with, because it's always an interesting conversation. They know a lot about their field of work, they have wisdom or advice to give, or they ask about YOU and what YOU like to do.

They're usually of small stature, and have certain quirks/a certain sense of style/certain features, etc., but most of the time it's their soul and way of acting that determines whether they're an Ayshan or not.

Ya know I think Cyrano (2021) is pretty mid but one thing it DIDN'T fuck up is Roxane's casting

She is sooooooooo pretty it's insane. Like yeah I get it I too would do the stupidest shit Like getting a much smarter guy to write her letters so that she falls in love with me like completely understandable mate

Do I love Cyrano because of the storyline, or because I relate to Cyrano loving someone so intensely that he doesn’t want her to be a social outcast by being with him, and he also thinks so little of himself that he believes that she’s better off with anyone else, so he never confesses or acts upon his love until he’s on his death bed?
