Pssst! Neurodivergent people with sensory issues and ambient music lovers, this is for you:
I have a recommendation and I know that I’m gonna end up sounding crazy and that’s fine, but hear me out:
There is a horror movie called Mandy, which is like the trippiest, weirdest shit out there and Nic Cage stars as the fucking main character but that’s not the point.
LISTEN TO THE SOUNDTRACK. PLEASE.
As an ADHD person with anxiety this shit is literally better than brown noise or white noise. It’s so peaceful. Sometimes I paint to it, sometimes I study to it, sometimes I listen to it to calm down from a panic attack (ONLY CERTAIN SONGS THOUGH, ITS STILL A HORROR MOVIE SOUNDTRACK) . It’s just my ultimate holy grail that I no longer want to gatekeep.
If you like Cyperpunk/Synthwave/Ambient music this is for you! Some tracks even radiate some post-punk and industrial energy and could have easily been on the DOOM soundtrack!
!IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER BEFORE LISTENING!:
Skip these songs, please, as they include very high pitched noises/and/or might make you feel uneasy (this IS a horror movie OST after all, even though it’s the most relaxing thing in the world to me, besides these songs):
Black Skulls
Red
Forging the Beast
Temple
Memories
This is my absolute favorite track if you want to give it a chance and receive a first impression:
Thanks if you read this post this far! The composer sadly passed away due to struggles with addiction before the movie was even released, so I think this is a great way of honoring him :)
If you don’t like it that’s 100% fair though! It’s just something I wanted to share with more people :]

Building soundtracks is hard because, it inevevitably leads to me wanting to hide odes to other soundtracks in it.
Like I won’t hide the ruin theme from undertale in my cyperpunk dystopian existential eldreich horror game
But I want to so bad.

Today's translation #119
Figure Skating Life vol. 9, The choreographer Miyamoto Kenji's commentary on all programs in Yuri!!! on ICE
Emil Nekola (18) Czech Republic
A dynamic jumper from Czech Republic
A 18-years-old with four quads in his free program, who is now in the middle of making a rapid progress. His dynamic jumps, he can execute thanks to his height, are very appealing, but because he focus too much on jumps only, it also happens that he doesn't have enough power left for the second half of his program. The soundtrack from a cyber-themed movie, he uses in his free program, is actually something you would expect from an European skater. He has a very cheerful personality and he is a gentleman. In his private life, he likes to wear surfers' fashion and is into extreme sports. He is good friends with Michele Crispino from Italy.
FS: Anastasis
I tried to make the choreography robot-like. Like "Matrix", for example. In the past, I was practicing a dance technique called poppin', so I included, as much as I could, these movements, in which you put a kind of an accent just at the end of each move you make. In addition, to not make the movements look soft, I was also careful with the way I was using my joints - to not let them go loose, but rather always keep stiff, like straight lines. When I first watched the anime and heard the line "Cyperpunk - I'm no longer human", I thought - "what is that even supposed to mean?" (laugh). Because, usually you don't add anything like a subtitle to the choreography.

A general question...
What is your taste in music?
Honestly idk either
I like electronic stuff but can’t stand the club music that just goes "dum dum dum“ in a monotone bass for 10min, but do like some variations of dubstep, really vibe with drum n bass but everything I like ends up being either at least 5y old or the geometry dash kinda style, metal but mostly the ones that sound like they could be in anime scenes (or Sonic apparently), J-Rock a lot more than K-Pop, don’t like regular English Pop but really love Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and unironically think Never Gonna Give You Up is a cool song. There‘s orchestral soundtracks in my playlist and last week I basically only played the two end-boss tracks from Honkai Star Rail on repeat for days. Somehow a good chunk of the stuff I listen to ends up being linked to Touhou in some indirect way. Had a month-long obsession with cyperpunk-style music. Not the game, but the aesthetic. So. synthwave? I generally only like fast stuff but also love Lofi and Lofi-Covers a lot. Pretty sure that one fan-song for Kaveh Genshin impact, "writing on the wall“, could count as a Walzer. Gusty Gardens Galaxy from Mario Galaxy certainly does iirc. Yesterday came across this, which isn’t vocaloid at all but the top comment described it as vocaloid-producer style and they’re honestly right. There’s Carneval Music sung by Squids. Japanese Traditional Metal. Stuff that has so little views the artist isn’t even listed on YouTube but mashed into "Various Artists - Topic“.
And somewhere along all that mess, there’s Theophany.
I fear it might not be quite possible to describe this in any accurate manner than perhaps "confusing“ lol

It may be June, but I went ahead and created a cyperpunk-ish mix anyway... at least that’s what I aimed for. There’s a lot of city and rain sounds mixed into the music (not recorded by yours truly btw), with some futuristic-ish sounding music. All this dumb description aside, I do think this might be one of my personal favorites of the mixes I’ve done for the show thus far. Check it out here, exclusively on Frisky Radio. Tracklist:
Fennesz - In My Room
Atomine Elektrine - The Eyes of Nebula
Kyle Bobby Dunn - Foothills Medical Clinic
Sigur Rós - Falinn
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Meditation App
Cliff Martinez - Larry Was a Family Man
Astrid Sonne / PJS - In / Cloudy
Dahlia's Tear - Drifting Into the Void Grasping at Fading Starlight
Tyler Bates & Joel J. Richard - The Glass House
Tim Hecker - Is But a Simulated Blur
Ian William Craig - Red Gate Drifting
Innesti - The Architecture of Clouds
David Lynch & Alan Splet - Side 2 (Excerpt)
Alva Noto - Xerrox Monophaser 2
Internazionale - They Taught Us to Count
Stijn Hüwels - Tomodachi (Yves)
Akira Ito - Praying for Mother / Earth (Part 1)
Flying Lotus - Hot Oct.

It baffles me that Neo Twewy didn’t get a nomination for Best OST...I still would’ve voted for Nier if it was nominated because...Nier has one of the best soundtracks of all time, but Neo Twewy is comprised solely of bangers and didn’t have any licensed music like Guardians of the Galaxy and Cyperpunk 2077.

Goth Subculture Truths For Youngsters
Content
What Are Goths Personalities Like?
How To Be Goth.
What Does It Suggest To Be Goth?
Goth: Everything You Require To Recognize
There is much more to it than simply style and there is even more to it currently than simply the songs. Personally I position the songs ahead of fashion as well as style in importance. I think obtaining extremely academic regarding goth sort of defeats the purpose of the sub-culture. It's interesting to trace the musical and visual DNA back to its roots, but in fact taking part in the sub-culture is a much more natural process. It is a lot more comprehensive and extra inclusive than it utilized to be.
No goth only bague vancaro tete de mort listens to goth music, unless they are trying as well hard, or are a purist. If you enjoyed any type of songs before discovering goth, keep listening to it. Individuals can obtain a little outrageous regarding what makes somebody a "real" goth. Attempt to disregard this; you do not need to validate on your own. Respond to "yes," or, if you want to prevent more inquiries, state "Well, I like goth fashion" or "I such as goth songs."
This Gothic effect is accentuated even more by the fact that eyes are painted black.
Of course, the more extreme the makeup, the more eyeshadow will be used to make the eyes look more like those of a dead person.
Not only does the makeup make the face look more like a cross, but it also accentuates features that are less visible in the eyes.
For one, make sure that you are dressed in all black (no more dotting the t-shirt with black dye).
Most people who choose to get in on the goth subculture do so because they have something in common with other members.
Tristania has actually remained to succeed with subsequent releases and also has since been regarded as among the globe's best goth steel bands. The goth subculture has endured a lot longer than others of the exact same period, and also has actually continued to diversify. The band shares influences with other bands in the first wave of what is called goth music. During this duration their style was mostly referred to as scary punk or goth-punk. Outrageousness which gleam like comets through the darkness of gothic and superstitious ages.
The goth kids on the show are depicted as locating it bothersome to be confused with the Hot Subject "vampire" kids from the episode "The Ungroundable" in period 12, as well as a lot more frustrating to be compared to emo children. The goth children are typically illustrated paying attention to goth music, creating or checking out Gothic verse, drinking coffee, flipping their hair, as well as cigarette smoking. Morticia Addams from The Addams Family members developed by Charles Addams is a fictional personality as well as the mother in the Addams family members. Morticia was played by Carolyn Jones in the 1964 television program The Addams Family, and after that played by Anjelica Huston in the 1991 variation. Some of the very early gothic rock and also deathrock artists taken on traditional horror movie images and made use of horror movie soundtracks for inspiration. Their audiences reacted by adopting proper gown and also props.
What Are Goths Individualities Like?
Darkwave, a spin-off of goth rock that developed in the 80s. It incorporates aspects of synthpop and new age, integrating dark, reflective lyrics and a touch of grief. Nevertheless the term, initially starting as a post punk design, at some point became its own point as bands began to make greater use of synthesizers and drum equipments. Significant bands consist of Clan of Xymox, Dead Can Dance as well as Black Tape For a Blue Girl. Recognize the personalities and also different descendants of goth music.
Goth is not only limited to goth rock, yet consists of some post-punk, deathrock, darkwave, angelic wave, grey rock as well as afterpunk. Grey rock is the Portuguese term for post-punk/ goth rock and also afterpunk is the Spanish term.Deathrock, which is the American counterpart that developed around the very same time as goth performed in the UK. Created in Southern California, deathrock is a spooky as well as atmospheric descendant of hard rock which contains glam rock imagery, punk-inflected sound as well as perspective, shock rock theatrics as well as b-movie ideas.
Just How To Be Goth.
This often makes them open to objection as well as taunting from others. As a result, the ones that don't "suit" with other teams collaborated so they a minimum of belong somewhere. As the influence of the music press faded and similar people had the ability to collect online in online forums and on social networks, goth made a rebirth, with occasions like the Whitby Goth Weekend break increasing in appeal. By the late 80s and also 90s, goth had actually discolored as a young people society, and was the source of some ridicule by the music press. Throughout the years, goth fashion has actually taken elements from Edwardian as well as Victorian clothing, heavy steam punk, cyperpunk, go crazy, fetish wear, cosplay as well as even more. The Visigoths or goths, were an old individuals from what is now Germany as well as Scandanavia, also called barbarians, well-known for the sacking of Rome in 410 ADVERTISEMENT.
Use of standard scary movie props such as swirling smoke, rubber bats, and webs featured as gothic club decoration from the beginning in The Batcave. Such recommendations in bands' songs as well as pictures were initially tongue-in-cheek, yet as time took place, bands and also members of the subculture took the connection a lot more seriously. As a result, morbid, superordinary as well as occult themes became much more noticeably significant in the subculture. The affiliation in between scary and goth was highlighted in its early days by The Hunger, a 1983 vampire film starring David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and also Susan Sarandon. The film included gothic rock team Bauhaus carrying out Bela Lugosi's Dead in a bar.
The Nickelodeon cartoon Invader Zim is also based on the goth subculture. As there are so many kinds of goth in the contemporary age, there is additionally several kinds of gothic style to select them! Although goths can be identified for being fans of black, it does not quit there. The birth of the light goth scene has actually produced an enormous surge in the blending of all points dark and gothic with light pastel shades. This differs substantially with the conventional charming or fetish style - both noted by attractive figure-hugging gothic corsets as well as littlelatex numbers. This reveals that there is large variation in gothic fashion when it pertains to various sorts of goth in the subcultures. Emo comes from post-hardcore, pop punk as well as indie rock design while gothic rock is a form of hard rock, glam punk and also post punk.
. Enter the regional goth scene as well as take part in goth events, nightclubs, and also performances. Meet new individuals in your scene and listen to tales from when the elders were about. Deathrock, originating on the West Shore of the U.S, deathrock is a much more scary as well as climatic variation of punk. When deathrock bands began to become prominent, as well as trip, they were after that able ahead over and directly affect the UK goth scene. Some deathrock bands include 45 Tomb, Christian Fatality, Bloody Dead and also Sexy, Alien Sex Ogre, Kommunity FK, and so on
What Does It Indicate To Be Goth?
However I such as the ordinary all black, system boots kind point. I have actually constantly wished to do this yet I would certainly be looked down upon by my household. Nonetheless, I seem like I recognize absolutely nothing of the culture itself. If I truly do wish to pursue it, I do not intend to just enjoy the design and also appearance. I need to know what it implies to all of you to be goth. I feel that if I pursue this I will be totally positive. I feel I 'd finally be comfortable with the means I look.
What is a goth club?
They are NOT mainstream.
Goth clubs are much different from regular night clubs. But most goth clubs play a variety of music like EBM, Industrial, Dark Wave, and Witch House to name a few. Most songs you will hear at Goth clubs will never be played on the radio – and that's how we like it!
youtube
Gift Suggestions For Goth Types.
You can discover these sorts of garments in a range of gothic-friendly shades. While black is one of the most typical, dark purple and also blood red are likewise typical shades for gothic fashion clothing and accessories. Due to the appeal of gothic styles and also styles, you can find gothic accessories virtually anywhere. A number of websites are dedicated to supplying a full-line of accessories as well as you can also discover this sort of garments at a number of chain store. Several gothic teenagers, though, choose to shop at neighborhood pre-owned stores as a result of the used look and also vintage appeal of the dark clothes that they can discover there. In either case, gothic accessories as well as outfits are generally inexpensive.

VA-11 Hall-A: Cyperpunk Bartender Action (2016, PC)
Tumblr media
Video games are typically about heroes.
This is mostly out of necessity. No one wants to play a third-person going-to-school simulator (okay, maybe Persona attracts a certain audience.) They’re inherently escapist art. We want to be a paladin, or the Hero of Time, or anyone other than ourselves when we pick up that controller and stare at the screen.
It’s also a design decision. Action keeps players interested in a game, and creates more definite objectives. “Go there and fetch the ring” is much easier to program than “Conquer the fear of abandonment rooted in your childhood,” and it’s also easier for players to understand. That cycle of risk, goal, and reward is the most foundational element of game design.
Tumblr media
VA-11 Hall-A is a bartending simulator. You do not play a hero, and it has very little of those core gameplay elements; what is there is extremely simple and serves the purpose of telling its story. Calling it a game feels sort of wrong, but so does calling it a bartending simulator; it is instead one of the latest in a great lineage of games that have existed on both the fringe of the genre’s definition and of public appreciation.
The visual novel genre is a uniquely Japanese phenomenon, a sort of digital choose your own adventure novel. There may be branching narrative paths, menial resource management or role-playing game elements, but most of it is just you clicking the text forward. Americans flirted with this a bit with our Leisure Suit Larrys and our Mysts, but those games still focused on puzzle-solving over story.
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most famous example is Snatcher, one of the first pre-internet visual novels to arrive on American soil. Directed by the venerable Hideo Kojima, its story of robots assuming human identities obviously borrows from Blade Runner. First released for Japanese-only computers in 1988, it was released here in 1994, right before the dawn of the 3D action game. Naturally, it received very little attention, as did Kojima until he directed a little-known indie game called Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action.
VA-11 Hall-A doesn’t just riff of of MGS’  subtitle; its developers have clearly followed Kojima since his earliest days.
Tumblr media
The most obvious influence lies in the game’s setting and aesthetic. VA-11 Hall-A is set in “the year 20XX”, in a dystopian pixelscape called Glitch City. Here corporations and government are interchangeable, lifelike robots called lilim mingle with humans and nanomachines bury themselves into human flesh to keep dissenters in check. It’s a dark but gorgeous setting, a rusty jungle of pink and purple neon and flashing lights. It’s all portrayed through colorful pixel art and one of the best video game soundtracks in years, a mashup of vaporwave, cyberpunk, and anime influences.
youtube
Such a setting lends itself to stories like those of Snatcher, where you play an elite detective diving into the city’s seedy underbelly. VA-11 Hall-A takes a different tack: you play a twenty-something bartender named Jill who works at a dingy dive bar in a back alley. Her story has a journey - one of forgiveness and redemption - but as the player, your only goal is to serve drinks correctly and pay rent.
Your customers are what give the game its true color There’s Dorothy, a childlike lilim sex worker with a raunchy sense of humor; Alma, a tenderhearted hacker at the center of ever-present family drama; Donovan, a misogynistic but strangely endearing newspaper editor; Art, a mild-mannered private investigator. Jill also has a complicated relationship with her boss, Dana, and mysterious co-worker Gil.
Save for one particular character, most of the stories you hear are far from heroic. One patron finds joy in helping the poor around “Mega Christmas,” while another drinks to cope with his long-lost daughter. It’s not all sentimental: VA-11 Hall-A does embrace the wacky absurdity of its anime heritage. There are talking dogs, robotic catgirls, plenty of fan service, even a daimakura (those creepy body pillows you see in cringe compilations.) The goofiness juxtaposed with the dreary setting and frequent sob stories is captivating.
Tumblr media
It’s also surprisingly profound. VA-11 Hall-A‘s developers are from Venezuela, where a corrupt socialist regime has cracked down on civil rights and mismanaged the economy. Anecdotes in the game reflect that reality: a mysterious hacker exposing government corruption, characters waiting in line for flour rations, an independent newspaper turning to shallow journalism for fear of government reprisal. Similar to the regine in North Korea, it’s easy to forget that under cartoonish dictatorships are real people who struggle to maintain their families and friendships.
My boy George R. R. Martin said it best in A Game of Thrones:
“’The common people pray for rain, healthy children, and a summer that never ends,’ Ser Jorah told her. ‘It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace.’ He gave a shrug. ‘They never are.’”
Tumblr media
Art about “normal people” is not new. Early modern art was a reaction to paintings of gods and kings, an effort to find heartbreak and joy in the lives of common people. Musicians, too, have largely turned from bardic tales of epic voyages to songs about universal emotions: love, loss, and hope. While games have had a broad emotional palette for years, it’s rare that they’re mined from people not on a quest, or fulfilling a destiny, or serving a greater cause.
The men and women of VA-11 Hall-A just want to be happy, fate and feats of heroism be damned. Though you learn a lot about their world by interacting with them, you never find the solution to its problems. They have more pressing things to worry about: finding work, going to the new concert in town, what that cute girl by the jukebox is up to.
Tumblr media
VA-11 Hall-A taps into the exhaustion of being a nobody. Of feeling powerless, confused, and lost in a world too large to wrap your head around. Even those of us in a stable country can relate to that, drained of energy by constant Facebook debates and a news cycle that seems desperate to one-up itself with tragedy and dark tidings.
Most importantly, it signals that gaming has grown. The medium once dominated by a jumping plumber and his single-minded quest for a princess is on its way to achieving the same diversity as film, literature, music, and other more “reputable” forms of art.
And they don’t have nearly as many waifus.
VA-11 Hall-A is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The kick-ass soundtrack is also available for streaming on Spotify and Google Play.

Brief thoughts on Blade Runner 2049
-I think it’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve he is one of the best directors working today, I believe his strength lies in his complete understanding of world-building, in terms of the visual designing, colours, to sound design, having a distinct atmosphere set to each and every one of his movies makes for unforgettable experience.
-I like his approach to science fiction specifically, he just seem to get how to adopt a fictional novel to the big screen, he manages to make it his own whilst not even attempting to change a thing, if writers’ talents are on paper, Villeneuve talent is visualizing it in the best way possible, take his use of flashbacks in Arrival (2016) for an instant.
-I strongly believe what makes Blade Runner 2049 so great is that Villeneuve did not want to “outdo” Ridley Scott’s work in the classic early 80′s original Blade Runner -a movie so influential and ahead of its time that inspired another cyperpunk essentials like Japanese anime; Ghost in the Shell (1995) and Akira (1988)- he did not interfere with the vision Philip K. Dick had for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (1968), he adapted the visuals and the story and built over it ever so brilliantly, if anything Blade Runner 2049 reassured the predecessor, not a single dull moment was in those 164 minutes, a total mindblowing experience.
-2049 is still using the same colour scheme for its frames to its predecessor, blue and yellow, because at its core replicants finding humanity within themselves in this cold dystopian world is still warm. Roger Deakins execution of a dystopian city is one of the best I've ever seen on a picture
-Ryan Gosling gives his best performance since Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011). In fact, our protagonist K or Joe, shares quite similar character outlines with (driver), calm, mysterious, put together. However, Blade Runner 2049 succeeds in creating an amazing arc of character development for K that by the last quarter of the film you realise how powerful the ending is.
-Regarding the soundtrack, ever since I knew there was a sequel I hoped that electronic musician Oneohtrix Point Never would fill in Vangelis’ shoes, specially cause I found his 2011 LP entitled “Replica” not only extremely inspired by Vangelis but also with Philip K Dick’s sci fi trails. I was skeptical about Hans Zimmer and didn’t think his skills would live up to Vangelis, and in all honesty they don’t. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how his sound carried the heavily industrial visual aspect of the film in a gorgeous, intense almost chilling way.
-I loved Denis’ exploration of man’s design versus fate’s design while giving zero clues as to Deckard’s true nature, also new modern age dilemmas that one can easily relate to; Alienation and electronic attachments..
-Even though Blader Runner 2049 is a slow-burner, slow-paced sci fi, it left me wanting more! My first thought leaving the movie theatre was:
1- Fuck I was not expecting that.
2- I need to watch that again.

Atlus is a large that was the latest of Earth's attempts to colonize planets outside of their solar system, resulting in what eventually became a futuristic civilization that would come to attract all natures of creatures from across the Universe, eventually losing touch with their Terran roots. From this estranged colony would spawn all sorts of unique technology and lifeforms, and among them would be the primarily-Earthling contingent known locally as "Voltron", a close-knit, rag-tag gang of engineers, fighters, and gamblers that all had one thing in common; their knack for both solving and creating problems across Atlus and the rest of the Universe. They would hardly ordain themselves as any sort of defenders of anything, but when the Universe calls upon them to provide aid, they take it upon themselves to answer the call (given that they're provided adequate payment for their services, of course).

What music/bands are your jam and/or make you lose your mind a little (or a lot)?
Uhhhh jammin (to me) implies something more high energy compared to vibin, which is more chill, sooo. Uhh
Short answer: mostly metalcore, fast paced songs, pop that isn’t purely pop if that makes sense, "this would make for a sick animation“, stuff that walks the very fine line between cringe af and hype af
Long answer:
The normal stuffTM: John Newman- Love me again, Dadi Freyr x Ásdís - Feel the love, Rick Astley - Beautiful Life. That is not a Roll, except for good vibes rolling in maybe. Cro - Traum (Easy too but that one’s a vibe and not a jam), Young Rising Sons- Last week on a Friday
The "hello last century, these are probably a vibe and not a jam-" category: boys town gang- Can’t Take my eyes off You, Earth Wind and Fire- Boogie Wonderland, Modjo - Lady (hear me tonight), Stardust- Music sounds better with you, Modern Jukebox‘s Shape of you cover (or just Modern jukebox in general ig, that’s kinda their whole thing isn’t it?)
A part in my playlist I lovingly like to call "cringe is dead“ because once it is these are hype af. …it’s mostly Crush40 sonic soundtracks. And also Undefeatable and Find Your Flame from Frontiers. Ans this can you feel the sunshine jazz cover. And Big Blue from F-Zero, specifically these three versions. Also this cover of you spin me round.
Another chunk is "3am but I‘m not sleepy yet“: mostly stuff with Cyperpunk vibes (the setting, not game). Cyan Night dreams by Parasite Inc., Scandroid- Neo Tokyo but the Chromatique and Dance with the Dead remixes; and then for not-cyperpunk stuff Paralyzed by Aviators and psyqui- hysteric night girl awakening (I think??),both the og and this more chill remix
Back to metal-ly stuff: Imminence- Infectious and Paralyzed. …both songs with that name were found on their own. Aso, Our promise- Panic Waves. Ask says "or make you lose your mind a little (or a lot)“. It’s 2:53 of this song, your honor. But! Gotta start at like 2:00 or smth to then properly fall into it. First song with the new singers too!
(If metal isn’t for you, Imminence sometimes also does really beautiful acoustic covers of their own songs, like this one for paralyzed)
From the "I genuinely don’t know why there’s so much Japanese stuff in my playlist"- chunk-: this one, basically everything from Zutomayo, thumbnail says daze so ig that’s the songs name?
Probably doesn’t count, but- everything from foxera. All 4 songs lol. Also sounds a bit like nostalgia, idk why. And hey look it’s a another song feat. Kellin Quinn, just like the Sonic Frontiers tracks at the start.
