Carnivàle – A vándorcirkusz (2003-2005), 1-2. évad
Úgy döntöttem, hogy a nyár folyamán sor kisebb sorozatot bedarálok, így esett a választásom a már régóta esedékes Carnivàle-ra. A 2000-res évek elején futó misztikus széria az HBO égisze alatt született meg, ennek megfelelően a minőség garantált, ráadásul egy nagyon is különleges szórakoztatást nyújt, amihez foghatóval még nem találkoztam.

Críticas | El silencio de los inocentes (1991)
Una película trascendental marcada por el gran peso de sus personajes, su abordaje y su fantástico uso de la violencia, todo encuadrado en un desarrollo narrativo muy poco usual.
Sinopsis: Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), una intachable estudiante de la academia del FBI, es designada para entrevistar al apresado psicópata y brillante psiquiatra Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) para dar con el asesino en serie “Buffalo Bill” (Ted Levine). La inteligencia y violencia del recluso generarán marchas y contramarchas en una investigación a contrarreloj por evitar la aparición de una próxima víctima.
No todos los films tienen permitido el regocijo de no sólo ser recordadas por sí mismas, sino por haber dejado grabado en la memoria de su público los nombres de sus personajes. Hannibal Lecter, Clarice Starling y “Buffalo Bill” son palabras que aparecen de inmediato en la mente de cualquiera que se encuentre hablando de esta oscura y particular historia, y no es algo que sea casual: la integridad de cada uno de ellos es lo que termina por dotarla de su identidad tan precisa, poniéndose a otro nivel de los relatos policiales predecesores (y por qué no, posteriores).
En el primero, la malicia y manipulación clásica en la representación del psicópata son potenciadas por unos rasgos que le dan un marco más extenso a su accionar: el canibalismo y su anhelo por la libertad. La segunda tiene también una doble particularidad: su naturaleza femenina en un ambiente plagado de hombres, y su condición de aprendiz, cuya consecuente inexperiencia e inseguridad redoblan el sentimiento de miedo cuando la película se lo propone. Por último, la enroscada mente del asesino serial y su conflicto interno por la indefinición de su género aportan, no sólo una gran originalidad a su personaje, sino también un vínculo orgánico entre el triángulo formado por el psiquiatra, la investigación y Clarice.
Es a través de Clarice, a su vez, por donde se manifiesta continuamente una mirada muy destacable sobre las dificultades extras que debe afrontar el género femenino sin caer nunca en su posible debilidad o vulnerabilidad, lo que hace al personaje interpretado por Jodie Foster una auténtica heroína a lo Ellen Ripley en Alien: el octavo pasajero (Alien, 1979), de Ridley Scott. Aún aterrorizada, el personaje aparece como coherente al mostrar su entereza para sobreponerse con valor en situaciones cada vez más extremas, lo cual mucho tiene que ver la labor expresiva de la actriz, que en un rápido cambio de muecas puede transmitir sensaciones como el terror, miedo, asombro e incomodidad.
La oscuridad de la trama es sostenida tanto por el nivel de complejidad descrita de los personajes como por el uso artístico de una violencia justificada y colocada en momentos cruciales. Con un catálogo que va desde un cadáver en descomposición, mutilaciones o el propio canibalismo, sumados a una serie de escalofriantes relatos del psiquiatra, la atmósfera en la que ésta transcurre se torna cada vez más difícil de quebrar, algo que más adelante pudo replicar David Fincher en Pecados capitales (Seven, 1997) sin salir lastimado.
Por último, y quizás lo más llamativo de toda la cinta, es que hay algo por demás atractivo en la estructura por la que se relatan todos los sucesos que conforman la historia. Si bien no se aleja de un cuento lineal compuesto por una historia principal y otra secundaria, la importancia dada a los elementos de la segunda (protagonizada por Hannibal) hacen que se lleve gran parte del interés. Aunque se presume que éste sería un simple aporte para cerrar el caso de Buffalo Bill, por momentos toma la delantera y utiliza a la investigación como una excusa para introducir finalmente al sombrío psiquiatra y su plan por liberarse de prisión. La armonía lograda entre los relatos complementarios y paralelos le otorga a la película un rasgo muy singular entre sus similares.
El silencio de los inocentes (the silence of the lambs, 1991) posee una serie de aspectos brillantes que la convierten en una referente del género, como sus guión, actuaciones y personajes, la cual la hace una justa merecedora de todas las alabanzas recibidas.
