AWTWB Fan Illustrated Edition!!
Heyo! I’m back! With the final (for now) instalment of my makeshift illustrated editions. This one is for the third and my personal favorite book in the Simon Snow Series, Any Way the Wind Blow by the amazing @rainbowrowell!!
Just like last time if you’re tagged, your art is in it!
This is essentially me putting the art pieces to the lines in the book to show the beautiful words and the beautiful art at once.
DISCLAIMER!!! This time, I managed to find out my local library allows me to print pages of colored documents for only 10 cents (woot woot) so the image quality is much better. HOWEVER, if you don’t see an art piece you believe should be on there or have seen before or even made, it is not because I don’t like the art or artist, it’s because I simply missed it when finding art or forgot to put it on a page to print.
This was by far the hardest one to complete, it took a total of 6 and a half months to complete. Two months to find all the art, 3 to glue it all in, 1 month taking photos and labeling, and a half month putting it all in collages and creating the artist credits.
AND IT WAS WORTH IT!! it looks great and it’s amazing to see all the art next to their source material.
Just like the other two times, each piece has a number on it that correlates to the credit page
(Ex. Artist: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
(I strongly, strongly, suggest clicking for better quality on everything and zoom in to see all the lines they’re next to)
Thank you to all the amazing artists in this fandom!! I hope you enjoy!!

Sketch Sunday
Thanks for the tags today and Wednesday: @artsyunderstudy; @hushed-chorus; @cutestkilla (hoppy easter! lol); @martsonmars; @ic3-que3n; @you-remind-me-of-the-babe; @theearlgreymage; and @whogaveyoupermission
I'm so lucky. The Easter bunny (my partner) gave me a manga.
After staring at the art, I decided to try to draw it....but make it snowbaz!
This is my second attempt:
Below the cut is a sneak peak of what's coming next and my tags.
So my first attempt to do a manga style failed miserably because I tried to do all of the shading in crosshatch. ( And in ink...so no repairing that mess😭)
This artist, Marimo Ragawa, uses a combination of linework and blocks of shading. I think I can do the same by mixing ink and paint.
So! What's coming next? I'll take this outline and lay down a wash of paint. Afterwards, I'll go over the outlines and add hatching in ink. (Because my fountain pen is loaded with a blue dyed-based ink, which will smear if wet.)
Bonus! I have so many tubes of beautiful shades of blue! Which shade would you pick? (I've made my decision, but reply with your choice.)
Happy Sunday! I hope the Easter bunny has brought you love and chocolate:

WIP Wednesday (But is a creativity brainstorming) Thank you so much if you keep tagging me! means the world :D Art is a projection of self, of our thoughts and emotions. But illustration is communication, discussion and a process! I have made a great team with @hushed-chorus, creating art for their fic story What Remains After The Storm (WRATS for short, check it here) and I would love to share the process of creating the art for ch. 5, Changeling. This is the final piece we released, and I'm very fond of it because it was a whole process to get to this stage. We discussed many times details, colors, positions, the whole vibe we needed to project and how this was impactful in the story, because it is a very important moment for the characters.
Actually, It is the very first scene I have sketched ever, and Demi and I passed through all these ideas of what is happening, how is happening, and I sketched and fixed things until we got to the finished product.
I presented my ideas, pitching the best way to show those emotions and everything we have discussed, and we worked on it for months.
For. MONTHS. So! Art is a process, but I like to think of this as illustration! A product very well though, discussed, tried, talked and pitched to get to a nice final piece. This one specially means a lot to me, and it was so much fun to plan and create!! I hope you like to see these behind the scenes :D I tag: @hushed-chorus @confused-bi-queer @kohatenz @artsyunderstudy @moodandmist @mostlymaudlin @palimpsessed @henreyettah @aristocratic-otter @cynopoe @bookish-bogwitch @cutestkilla @wellbelesbian @skeedelvee @cattocavo @krisrix @johnwgrey @asticou @takitalks @ionlydrinkhotwater @dragoneggos @ic3-que3n @castawaypitch @ileadacharmedlife @stitchyqueer @facewithoutheart @fatalfangirl @thehoneyedhufflepuff @aroace-genderfluid-sheep @bazzybelle @basiltonbutliketheherb @nausikaaa @whogaveyoupermission @raenestee @thewholelemon @chen-chen-chen-again-chen @ivelovedhimthroughworsee @captain-aralias

Some thoughts after seeing that art—the hidden trauma of Baz Pitch
Cynopoe’s riveting and heart-rending recent fan art of Baz hit me very viscerally when I saw it, much the same way that sentence affected me when I first read Wayward Son.
I think it is not uncommon for readers to perhaps focus on Simon’s considerable trauma and sometimes forget or minimise how truly troubled and damaged by it all Baz is too.
I can’t forget it
It’s obviously not a competition as to whose trauma is worse, but Baz manages to function and keep it hidden more than Simon does. They both have years of suppressing it but Simon, in the past, had the ability to vent some of his considerable energy and inner turmoil into the battles he fought against a host of magical creatures on behalf of the Mage,. He had the ability to release what he could not hold in by “going off.”
Simon chooses to not discuss his trauma at all, chooses not to think about it in Carry On and–as we find out with regard to his childhood in WS–suppresses it enough that he doesn’t even recall it clearly.
Baz, on the other hand, buries his trauma deep. It exists within him but he, as with many things in his life, attempts to exert an iron control over it. He remembers and allows himself internal monologues about the traumatic events that have shaped him, but he references them in a calm, at times almost detached, way. He keeps people at arms length. He does not reveal much to anyone, not even his family. Not to Fiona, who finds him in deplorable condition after the numpty kidnapping. Not to his father, who is concerned for his well-being. Not to Daphne, or his teachers, or as far as we know any of his classmates either. He projects a polished and unflappable exterior, one that he carefully curates over the years.
He forgets that the one time he didn’t keep it all in is the time Simon reached out to him with true intimacy.
The forest kiss.
Baz broke down.
He let Simon in. He allowed himself to be vulnerable, to cry in the car.
“His face is stone, and when we get out of London, tears start to fall from his eyes. He doesn’t wipe them or blink them away, so they streak down his cheeks and cling to his jaw.”(Chapter 60, Carry On.)
He admitted the long-held secret of his vampirism, verbalized the guilt still resonating from his mother’s death, admitted the deep fear he has that his mother would reject him as he is now.
He swings his wand and practically howls, spraying fire all around us. “This is what my mother would want from me, you idiot.” He sneers at me, baring his teeth–all of them. His canines are sharp as a wolf’s. “My mother died killing vampires,” he says. “And when they bit her, she killed herself. It’s the last thing she did. If she knew what I am . . . She would never have let me live.”
“She loved what I was!” he shouts. (Chapter 60, Carry On.)
He revealed the depth of his despair, even if it was only for a brief time.
"This is what I deserve.” (Chapter 60, Carry On.)
It’s the first time he lets his mask down completely. When he allows himself to be vulnerable, reveals the devastation and pain within him.
And Simon kisses him. Simon may be surprised later in Chapter 71, when Baz calls them both a mess, but that’s Baz letting him in again.
Revealing his vulnerability. Admitting what’s below the surface. The roiling mess of trauma that lives within him.
“What you are is a fucking tragedy, Simon Snow. You literally couldn't be a bigger mess.”
He tries to kiss me, but I hold back. “And you like that?”
“I love it,” he says.
“Why?”
“Because we match.” (Chapter 71, Carry On.)
And Simon forgets that again and again, which we see most notably in Wayward Son, with his inner monologues on how well Baz is doing, how he’s thriving.
“Baz is at uni now. Thriving.
Everything that happened with the Mage and the Humdrum just made Baz more of who he was meant to be. He avenged his mother. He solved the mystery that’s hung over him since he was 5. He proved himself as a man and a magician.” (Chapter 2, Wayward Son.)
But even though Simon says that and intimates that he’s not enough for Baz anymore, that they don’t match, he still is observant enough that he comprehends that Baz is hurting inside. He just manages to get things a bit muddled in his assessment, assuming Baz is suffering because he’s staying with him rather than seeing that Baz is suffering because of the growing emotional and physical distance between them.
“But I hate to watch Baz suffer. I hate being the reason he suffers.” (Chapter 2, Wayward Son.)
Baz has learned to suppress and cope and he’s really good at it. He’s had lots of practice. But Simon has spent a long time watching Baz and can tell that something is off. But he's not in a place where he can communicate with Baz and ask why, so he makes assumptions that are not accurate.
And with Simon falling apart, Baz doesn’t share his own personal mess because he’s so focused on caring for Simon.
“Bunce and I never leave him alone now if we can help it. We go to lectures, we study. (That’s what Bunce and I do. That’s who we are.) But there’s always one of us around–making Snow tea he won’t drink, sharing vegetables he won’t eat, asking questions he won’t answer . . . “ (Chapter 1, Wayward Son.)
I also think he doesn’t want to burden Simon with his own issues. He loves Simon so much and yearns to support him and be there for him. His own trauma feels lesser, compared to Simon’s, so he buries it again, forgetting that you can’t compare trauma. It is what it is, to each individual, and no one’s trauma trumps another’s.
Sharing it would actually bring them closer again, but he believes he has to be a positive support to Simon and can handle his own issues.
Baz ends up totally missing the point that keeping that to himself makes Simon feel they don’t match anymore, when in actuality they do!!
Inside they are both messes, desperately in need of therapy and love and communication and empathy, for and from each other.
Carry On was about the rise and fall of Simon Snow. Wayward Son was in theory more of Baz’s book. And in many ways it truly is. It’s revelatory for him in many ways, but Baz also goes through hell in Wayward Son. It’s easy to get caught up in Simon and his withdrawal, his depression, how changed he is.
But Baz is suffering.
Baz is dying inside.
The person who literally kept him alive, the person who makes him feel alive, is slipping away from him and he can’t figure out how to stop it. His dream came true and it’s slipping from his fingers.
Many readers said they felt Baz was out of character in Wayward Son: where was his snark, his sarcasm? I don't see that he was out of character. His most intense snark had been a self-protection, particularly against Simon. He HAS Simon now. His words are more playfully snarky and sarcastic than mean or bitter. This is a glimpse of the true Baz–the Baz who can be funny and protective, empathetic and caring, who has a soft heart but still loathes himself, under that posh and polished facade.
From “Things I hate, a list” (by Baz):
13. Myself, most of all.
14. My soft heart.
15. My foolish optimism.
17. Being a vampire, if we’re being honest.
“There’s no safe time for me to see you, nothing about you that doesn’t tear my heart from my chest and leave it breakable outside my body.” (excerpts from Chapter 14, Wayward Son.)
But just as we see with Simon, an individual’s personality can undergo some changes when they are depressed or overly stressed or resigned to something that makes them unhappy.
And Baz is resigned in Wayward Son.
Resigned to the fact that he may lose the one person he’s wanted for so long, The person who brought him back from the brink. The relationship that has given him hope, made him feel alive, made him feel accepted and enough.
He doesn't think he’s enough anymore. Not enough to keep Simon afloat.
He takes all his cues from Simon. He is hyper-focused on Simon, as much as he ever was in Carry On but the difference is he’s also an exhausted and depleted caregiver who’s not caring for himself emotionally.
So his character really isn’t drastically changed, we’re just seeing Baz with some of the harsh edges blunted. And we are seeing a Baz who is holding himself together and carrying on, despite his own deep issues, because he wants to be there to support Simon.
It’s much the same with Penny: readers have commented that she behaves differently as well. She’s not out of character, in my opinion-she’s simply not dealt with her own trauma either. She may know it’s there, but she too is not dealing with it head on. She’s focusing more on Simon and Baz than herself.
“All right, so, yes, things haven't been going so well. And I should have been the one to see it coming.”
“So, yes, I knew that Simon had suffered–but I thought that winning would make up for it. I thought victory would be enough. That relief would fill in all those holes.”
“But it was a mistake thinking of that as an end. There is no end. Bad things happen, and then they stop, but they keep on wreaking havoc inside of people.” (Chapter 3, Wayward Son.)
She’s worn out and stressed but she’s desperate to help and support Simon, just as Baz is. Desperate enough to concoct a plan that’s actually not very well planned out because she’s at her wits end with regard to Simon.
“I know perfectly well that going on holiday isn’t going to magickally fix everything. (If there were a way to magickally fix this, I swear to Stevie I’d have figured it out by now.)” (Chapter 3, Wayward Son.)
And she’s worried about Baz.
They all know they are off their game but they don’t talk enough to figure out why. And they don’t want to burden each other with their own issues. They see how they are deteriorating but Baz and Penny don’t recognise it in themselves and Simon is so deep in his own morass of depression and damaged self-worth that he doesn’t really see the cracks in their facades.
So they struggle and misunderstand and muddle through it, but the love they all have for each other shines through.
"Baz rubs her back and lets her cry into his shirt. I love him so much, and I want to tell him so.” (Chapter 15, Wayward Son.)
“Then, in a rush of warmth and cedar and bergamot, he kisses my cheek. ‘Good night, Snow,’ he says.” (Chapter 17, Wayward Son.)
“I’d give him all that I am. I’d give him all that I was. I’d open up a vein.” (Chapter 41, Wayward Son.)
“Penelope sighs, leaning over the seat and Baz holds his wand to her mouth. ‘Kiss it better!”
“Basil, that’s a family spell!”
“Hush,” he says, kissing her cheek. (Chapter 64, Wayward Son.)
“Why can’t you see that I wouldn’t be happy anywhere without you?” (Prologue, Wayward Son.)
The trip to America is an attempt to break through Simon’s detachment and despair, but it manages to expose the fragile hold Penny and Baz have on their own suppressed trauma and the damage they have sustained from it and from burying it for so long.
We can’t forget that. Simon’s trauma and loss is immense and devastating and grabs our attention. But Baz has suffered greatly and is still suffering. His trauma may not be as evident as Simon’s in Wayward Son but it is as deep, abiding, and most definitely not adequately addressed by him or those around him.
tl;dr: Baz has sustained and is still dealing with a lot of trauma too.
(I basically sent a wall of text about this to @fight-surrender yesterday and she encouraged me to put it into a meta.)
(thanks @cynopoe for the heart-breaking art that spurred this post.)

Wip Wednesday
Hey y'all! Thanks for the tags today @ic3-que3n @martsonmars loving the art wip and the fic wip you shared 🥰
I'm sharing a snip fr the next chapter of my COBB, which I'm hoping to post before the weekend (I just need to connect some bits and edit!). It's the spicy chapter™️ (and also mildly spoilery maybe?), so even though it's not explicit I'll pop the snip under the cut with tags. Have a good wipsday everyone!
:readmore:
Baz
I look up at him, and he looks down at me. His hand is soft in my hair again, stroking gently through the strands.
“You like doing that,” I whisper. He nods with a soft smile.
“I’ve wanted this,” he says, giving my hair a deliberate comb with his fingers, “for a while.”
My chest clenches. “You have?”
His eyebrows furrow in concern. “Of course I have. Have you seen you? You’re so fit, and you’re a bit of a sarcastic git but I like that, too.”

Hello hello! Wednesday already? Hurrah! And I’ve already started a new art piece! Who would believe it? I also ofc have more SAE for you. And I wrote some incredibly silly crack the other day I may post soon. Who knows? Anyway, I’ll give you a sampling of each.
First, ol’ reliable Slings and Eros, but jumping back to chapter 20 for this snippet, from Agathe:
“You can just admit it, you know.”
“Admit what?” I ask, my voice rising in a very convincingly casual manner.
“Admit that you’re doing it for me. Because I asked you to. Because we’re friends.”
I cross my arms and raise an eyebrow. “Are we friends?”
He laughs, shaking his head. “It’s always eyebrows,” he mutters under his breath.
“What?”
“Just don’t tell any more prophecies about me.”
“Just because you’re the only god here doesn’t mean you’re the only one who gets to place conditions on this friendship.”
His eyes light up. “See? I told you we were friends!”
Next, some dirty crack. This idea has been percolating for some time as a note on my phone. Then the discord crew had a minor meltdown about what exactly was going on in Simon’s trousers. So I had to actually write this. You’re welcome.
"The Chosen One. The Greatest Mage. The Power of Powers."
I can't stop laughing. My face is buried in Baz's shoulder and I may be drooling on him because I'm laughing so hard.
"Stop!" I cry, but it comes out muffled and breathless.
"The Sword of Mages. No, no. Wait! I can do better! Excalibur," he says, and I lose myself in another fit of giggles.
It only goes downhill from there.
Anddddddd here’s something angsty for Simon’s birthday which yes I’m already working on because I want to:
Poor sad Simon. I really made him pathetic didn’t I? I sketched this out in like an hour last night which for me is breakneck speed so I guess it’s going well so far. Been wanting to draw this scene almost since I first read it. Can you guess what it is?
This is so long 😂 anyway! Tags and thanks!
Thanks to: @basiltonbutliketheherb @martsonmars @urban-sith @facewithoutheart @takitalks @artsyunderstudy @tea-brigade @confused-bi-queer for tagging me
And I’ll tag the discord peeps who had a hand in the crack: @mrskrementz @moodandmist @aristocratic-otter @bookish-bogwitch and @jbrrring who i know will appreciate the eyebrows comment 😂 @mostlymaudlin @shemakesmeforget @nightimedreamersworld @wetheformidables @frjsti @unseelieseelie @stardustasincocaine @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @bazzybelle @starwarned @stillmadaboutpetra @twinkle-twinkle-up-above @themandilorian @skeedelvee @bloodiedpixie @toonysart @cynopoe

This is so good.
Art by @cynopoe, I love this fully clothed but still steamy picture.
“I shrug, working at his tail. It’s so warm. And it’s always moving. Like holding a current in a stream. If you’d asked me ahead of time, I would have said I wasn’t into tails. But I guess I’m into anything attached to Simon.”

New Art Commission for
Fallen From the Sky with Grace
Yes, it's true. I commissioned a second piece of art for my story. And look at it! Isnt it gorgeous?
The incomparable, breathtakingly talented @cynopoe made this afterglow scene for chapter two - Turbulence
I've cropped the middle out so Tumblr doesn't flag the nudity, but stop and take a closer look. There are so many details in the composition. Look at their body language. Zoom in to see the expression on Simon's face. Omg that dappled light which turns a London park (strewn with bottles) into the most romantic spot to fool around with one's boyfriend.
Quick warning. This is a dreamy, sexy picture, but it's not a fluffy fic. This scene is the moment of happiness before the angst.
And River, I can't tell you how much it means to me to have this art.

Thanks to @super-duper-twelve for tagging me!
So when it comes to fanart or just art in general this year, I kind of felt like, I didn't do enough or really grow enough . But looking back and trying to pick out my faves for the year kind of opened my eyes to how many things I've drawn that I actually kind of liked??? (Even though I haven't posted very many things)
It's not by any means exactly where I want to be or anything but it feels kind of good to look back and see that I'm at least making a little step in the right direction!
So yeah, here are my faves🖤:
1. Even though it's pretty recent this one's my absolute favorite! I think because I kind of managed to hit almost exactly what I've been trying to go for with my art style. (Also it was inspired by the awesome @carryonmylovelies !)
2.I love this one because for once I felt like I actually knew what I was doing with the colouring lol. Also you just can't go wrong with soft Snowbaz.
3. This was part of my brief inktober stint and kind of just poured out of me when I saw the prompts for some reason. I love it wayyy too much honestly.
4. I actually drew a car??? I didn't know I did that??? I guess I love this one cause I stepped out my comfort zone a little bit and the result wasn't actually bad. Also snogging snowbaz soo.
5. These have to be some of my favourite Simons I've drawn and I've drawn a lot of Simons so. I just think it's cute.

I love this scene. I love your rendition of it. How good that shirt looks on Simon. How much Baz likes seeing him wear it. The peek of the wings. The closeness, the way they’re pressed together, the faces, the hair, the background. Just lovely.
“I’m sorry,” I pant.
He looks confused. The spring on one side is caught in his hair. “For what?”
I shrug. I don’t know. I hug him closer. My arms are crossed in the small of his back. “Breaking your nose. In fourth year.”
He laughs. “Oh. Well. You should be sorry about that.”
I lean forward and bite his nose, right at the crooked part.
“Crowley, Snow——don’t break it again!” —AWTWB chapter 48
While this drawing isn’t highly accurate, I believe it has the spirit of the scene. The glowing golden hue of being stupidly in love. Being the centerpiece of a bigger picture. Being alone in a quiet place with your boyfriend. Dry humping him against the shelves. Et cetera.
I made an effort this time, to do honor to one of my favorite scenes from the book. And it worths a closeup.

Am I actually making a Sunday post on Saturday? Am I actually planning ahead to share something?
Queueing so if you tag me before this posts, you’re getting a good grade in tumblr which is both reasonable to want and possible to achieve. ⭐️
Going to drop fic and art on you.
Last time I shared a bit from a scene between pythia Agathe and naiad Niamh. I spent most of the week feeling unhappy with it and therefore avoiding it but I went back in and rewrote a bunch so I’m feeling better about it now. I may actually be done with the chapter? Not sure. Have to read through. Anyway here’s a new exchange:
I shake my head. “Do you practice being difficult?”
“Nah, it’s a natural gift. You?”
“You’re the only one who thinks I’m difficult.”
“Well, then I’m the only one with any sense.”
“Are you cross with me because I didn’t bring the goats?”
“I’m cross with you because you came uninvited into my spring and refused to tell me what you’re doing here.”
“I told you I wouldn’t answer you until you called me Agathe.”
“Why would I go and do an absurd thing like that?” She asks.
“Because it’s polite to call people by their names.”
“Is it?” She asks. “Then I’m not sure why you think I'd be interested in doing it.”
I’m getting very excited for my piece for Simon’s birthday 🥰🥰🥰 It has not just one, but three Simons. (And Baz is there too. I called him an accessory and I think it’s fitting.) I still need to do some realigning when I trace this over, but here’s a peek at the top half.
Oh yeah and center Simon does have a face it’s just elsewhere at the moment 🤣 this is what happens when I’m trying out different options on my tracing paper. There are floating heads and a torso and a sink faucet just for good measure. Also a mess of notes.
I also finally decided to sign up for Carry On Art Remix. Last year was super fun so I have high hopes for this year. If you’ve been on the fence, or if you didn’t know about it, this is your sign to join in!
