Mirror Squad
An HC I need to get out of my head so I can move on with my life (Hah, jokes on you, Levi, Bad Batch is your life).
So...Hemlock created a mirror image of the Bad Batch called the Mirror Squad, but it's not what you think. Turns out these clones were the ORIGINAL Bad Batch.
Their names: Crunch (Wrecker), Striker (Hunter), Circuit (Tech), Void (Echo/Memento - See Notes), and CX-2 aka Headshot (Crosshair).
Striker and Hunter
Circuit and Tech
Void and Echo
Crunch and Wrecker
Headshot and Crosshair
The Mirror Squad - Origin Story Concept
The Mirror Squad were the first batch of Experimental Unit Clone Commandos created on Kamino: Striker, Crunch, Circuit, Void, and Headshot. They were decommissioned due to their rebellious and unpredictable nature which made them a liability rather than an asset to the future Clone Army.
Because the Experimental Clone Program was an expensive endeavor, the Kaminoans did not decommission these clones, but rather put them in stasis for later research. They tried again another batch of experimental clones and this time only four clones survived: Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Memento (see note) and Crosshair.
Note: Memento did not survive past his cadet years. Void and Echo's parallel are a coincidence.
When Kamino was evacuated, Hemlock scooped up the original Bad Batch squad, still in stasis within their pods. These clones were the first to be brainwashed and reprogrammed by Hemlock. Although their memories were wiped, their instincts to work as a cohesive unit remained.
Technically, the Bad Batch is a mirror image of what the original Clone Force 99 almost was, but this squad's official name is Mirror Squad.

Star Wars: Shadow Agent
in light of the series finale of the Bad Batch, I have made this Fic set during the time of Rogue One in which CT-9902 âTechâ uses his CX training as CX-2 against the Empire by acting as a Double Agent and considering his exceptional mind, Tech would make sure none of the imperial leadership will ever learn of his double status. In fact he will use the coldness given to him by the late Dr. Royce Hemlock from his CX conditioning to full advantage to the point that as an acting high ranking ISB Agent (rank of Intelligence Marshal), no would dare question Tech. Not of all. Additionally, he would be Luthen Raelâs secret contact! With such demeanor, Tech would weaken the empire from within all while having high security clearance to the most confidential Imperial secrets. Tech would use his CX training to secretly assassinate several Imperial officers who pose a threat to not just him but the rebellion and he would subtly blow many imperial ships just to avenge the Marauder he had blown up and prior to that, he had returned to Pabu to desperately retrieve all past records of Clone Force 99âs highly classified missions that are salvageable and then Tech would have a deep and serious conversation with Shep Hazard with Tech giving a serious look to Shep and apologizing about everything and that the next imperial who tries to arrest will have to go through Tech and that if it comes to that. Tech would use his CX training and his high ranking position in the ISB as a double agent to threaten them with telling Tarkin about their failure and that Pabu is of no interest to the Empire.

Thanks for the tag! ⥠Gosh this snippettttt >v< so exited for more!
The last thing I've written is a RP post with my friend @linnessaart , which I wont share without permission but if theres interest, I shall inquire :3
Incidentally, the last thing I've sketched is also from the Inquisitor/CX AU. Just. An earlier moment. Cough cough.
[Order 66 wasnt kind on anyone]

Might clean these up eventually, but I dont mind them as they are either? Well. WIP for now.
Tagging anyone who sees this and wants to participate! ^^
Last Line Challenge
Thank you @orbitalmirror for the tag! I've been working on various pieces but lately the Inquisitor/CX thing has taken over priority. And so... (I always share a few lines since I write a lot of short ones in dialogue.)
âThat was at Tantiss?â âIt was.â âWell. While weâre there we can burn it all to the ground.â Consternation rippled through the Force. He turned to face her. âWe will not be able to accomplish that on our own.â âWatch me.â
And some NPTs! @eriexplosion @ahsokastechie @nightskyfoxyy @heyclickadee
#For someone as empathically inclined as Phee#feeling the absolute horror of order 66 in the force#WHILE most of your own squad turns on you?#and then feeling your lover who somehow didnt have his chip activate get beaten within an inch of his life on top of it?#yeah not a great day#star wars#the bad batch#fanfic#inquisitor/cx AU#inquisitor phee#cx-tech#phee genoa#tbb tech#techphee#tech x phee#tag game

Remember how it took us years to find out that Echo had actually survived the Citadel?
What if CX-2's identity isn't revealed in The Bad Batch, but in another animated show, perhaps one focused on a certain clone rebellion that a certain clone squad could be a part of?

I can't really tell where it's coming from but I'm getting extremely fed up with the seemingly performative pearl clutching about anything even slightly outrĂŠ, subversive, confrontational, hostile or ironic. I'm watching this seemingly intelligent small YouTuber trying to analyze Funny Pizza Land and expressing (fake?) puzzlement about why the key bindings are so bad and why the creator's games generally aren't "fun". and it's like buddy if you didn't read Monster Killers while it was running I don't know if you are going to be able to figure out that, well you know, the medium is the message and everything. it kind of reminds me of pyrocynical's embarrassing (for him) interview footage with the Cruelty Squad creator (whom I think is actually younger, I. his twenties). where did you get your ideas?? why does everything suck so bad in your games??? my man it's because everything sucks irl and making this kind of sincere-irony ugliness is a way of exploring that fact/assumption/central thesis and I think having typed all this out that I've figured out that most people younger than 30 rn maybe have just grown up already with everything being such garbage that even noticing it or pointing it out seems alien to most of them. also it is a factor of pure age, you do gain additional levels of Irony Posting the older you get (if you're doing it right). and sincerity posting, it goes both ways.
I also hate to say it but I do think a certain amount of sitting in classical arts and writing classes makes you a lot better at skipping over all the performative shock and getting right into meeting the text directly where it originates and immediately engaging with what it's trying to show you. that's kind of what formal education is for, they teach you to do that. saying and thinking "this is so weird guys right like it's weird it's so weird and bizarre" is actually a waste of your time and your audience's, if you have one. it's a dead end. just get past it as quickly as possible and start your real reading. it's a form of struggling against actual coherency and it will just put you behind schedule and make you tired.
anyway I would like to watch or read or listen to analysis of Funny Pizza Land and Monster Killers and Cruelty Squad by people who aren't 20 years old and have actually read Helene Cixous and etc but no one has made a YouTube series yet where they Gamecenter CX Werner Herzog and Slavoj Zizek and then edit it into a 90 minute presentation on my personal computer so I take what I can get

Lemon Yellow - poly batch <3
Whew. Anon, you really know how to pick 'em.
3800+ words later....
Tags/TW: Polybatch, Emotionally Intelligent Wrecker, Poly Negotiations, Pre-Order 66, Body Dysmorphia, Slightly Graphic Depictions of Cybernetics and Skin, Depression, Trauma, Nightmares, Echo Crying, Mentions of Former Poly Torrent Company (Rex/Fives/Echo/Jesse/Kix/Hardcase/Tup/Dogma), Grief/Loss, Neurodivergent Tech, Implied Neurodivergent Hunter, Happy Ending on Pabu, 10 Years later, Gay Old Men, Canon Compliant Hand Loss for Crosshair, Tech was CX-2, Batcher and Teenage Omega
Lemon Yellow: How does the first kiss go? (+2 Bonus kisses)
âI saw you and Hunter the other night,â Echo mentioned casually as he handed Tech a spanner wrench. He watched as Tech give him a quick, unconcerned look and went about his business.
âWe are in an established relationship,â he replied matter-of-factly, as though it should have been common knowledge that Echo could have simply looked up on the comm chatter.
Echo was new to Clone Force 99. It wasnât his place to judge them for anything, and it wasnât like he hadnât also been in a relationship with another clone or experimented with one before. Still, he chose his next words carefully, afraid that he might know too much now.
ââŚI also saw him with Crosshair this morning.â
That did give Tech pause, and he sighed with a bit of exasperation. âLook, Echo, I do not know how to tell you this gently, so I will simply be upfront with you. The truth is that the four of us, Hunter, Crosshair, Wrecker, and myself, are in a polyamorous relationship.â
Echo let the words sink in. He knew what they meant, and he knew sort of how it worked. Torrent Company worked similarly. There were obvious pairs, like himself and Fives, and Jesse and Kix, but they were sort of just, all together, the eight of them. So, the four members of the Bad Batch being in such a relationship wasnât something that Echo was necessarily new to, butâŚ
âYou seem perplexed by this,â Tech teased lightly as he set the spanner wrench aside for now. âPerhaps if I explainââ
âNo, no, thatâs not it. I know what it is,â Echo defended. âI guess I just didnât think that that sort of relationship was a clone thing.â
âAs opposed to what?â Tech inquired with interest.
If nothing else, Tech was at least treating it delicately, if not forwardly. Echo appreciated that he didnât try to sugarcoat it for him. He knew it was a littleâŚweirdâŚto explain to some people. Even some people in the GAR had a hard time wrapping their heads around it, so it was always more simple to tell people he was with Fives, instead of having six other boyfriends.
âMy old squadâŚâ
âThe five hundred and first?â
âYeah, Torrent Company specifically, we wereâŚyou know.â
Tech seemed to brighten at that, but why, Echo could only speculate. Maybe he was just happy that he didnât have to keep sneaking around anymore, but to be honest, it sort of made Echo feel left out. For now, he swept the idea under the rug.
âI see. Do you miss that sort of dynamic?â
Echo pretended to think about it, but the reality was yeah, he really did. He hardly gave his remaining squad a chance to make him feel welcomed back, afraid of what they would think of him, maybe. Even he didnât know some days, but he knew that this was where he needed to be, at least for now.
âYeah, Iâd be lying if I said I didnât miss flopping onto a rack after hitting the showers and there would just be someone there to keep me company,â Echo sighed.
Tech had a curious look in his eyes as he adjusted his goggles. It was obvious that he was thinking hard about something from the way he nibbled on the pout of his bottom lip, and Echo couldnât help the intrusive thought.
âHeâs so cute.â
With barely even a second to process the thought, Echoâs eyes flew open wide as Techâs lips connected with his. Immediately, his cheeks darkened, but he settled quickly into the kiss. Techâs lips were softer than heâd imagined they would be, not that he made a habit of imagining his lips, but sometimesâŚ
Echo hadnât expected it to go much further, but Techâs fingers brushed his cheek, fleeting and soft, gloved hand coated in a sheen of grease from the Marauder catching on the stubble that had grown in. He sighed, giving in to feeling someone elseâs lips for the first time sinceâ
Fives. The first time since Fives.
Abruptly, Echo leaned away, eyes conflicted as he turned his gaze away from Techâs imploring look.
âIâŚam sorry for assuming that you wouldââ
Echo quickly shook his head. âItâs not that. I liked it, a lot.â
It was as though Echo could feel the heat and hurt radiating from Techâs stare, and he forced himself to look at him, even though all he really wanted in that moment was to forget the pain of Fives being gone and for Tech to kiss him again. âIâm sorry, Tech. I justâŚhavenât kissed anyone in a long time. It took me by surprise.â
Tech pondered his words, then, âdid I misunderstand?â
This was getting complicated. âNo, actually, I want to kiss you again, but I donât know where the others stand, and I donât want to come between anyone. Thatâs not how a polycule works.â
âAh, I see,â Tech seemed to ease up a little after that and sat back to work on the ship again. âIf that is your concern, then I will talk to the others. You are right, it should be discussed.â
Echo smiled and touched the greasy streak on his cheek fondly before he stood. Giddiness coursed through him, but he was also nervous about what was to come. All he could do was hope for the best. In the meantime, he needed to sort out his feelings about Fives, as well as those that remained in his previous situationship. There were a lot of factors to consider, but maybe this wasnât so bad.
Besides, kissing Tech again would definitely be on the top of his list to do again as soon as possible.
.
âWHAT?â
âStop that,â Tech scoffed and rolled his eyes. âThis hardly warrants that kind of reaction.â
âYou should have come to us first,â Hunter sighed, but he was far less condescending than Wreckerâs outburst had been.
âAs if youâre actually bothered by it,â Crosshair quipped as he cleaned the barrel of his rifle. âYouâve been looking Echo up and down since he first stepped onto the Marauder.â
Tech looked between them with a smirk as Hunterâs cheeks lit up.
âWHAT?â Wrecker boomed again.
âEnough,â Crosshair drawled in his direction. âWeâve all thought about it. Youâre just mad that Tech made the first move.â
âYouâre not mad about it?â Hunter asked and kicked his legs up on Crosshairâs lap. There was a sneer on Crosshairâs lips that said he wanted to knock them off, but he didnât, instead continuing to detail his weapon.
âNo,â he answered, and his eyes flicked to Techâs, âbut I want to know what Echo tastes like.â The suggestive tone didnât go unnoticed, and Tech appropriately blushed as Crosshair licked his lips. âWhy kiss me when you could just go kiss him yourself?â
Setting his rifle aside, Crosshair hummed. âYouâre right.â
He stood, now knocking Hunterâs feet off his lap with a smack, and he leaned over the pilotâs seat to steal a less heated kiss from Techâs lips. âGood thinking, Ace.â
âHey, thatâs my nickname for him,â Hunter pouted.
Techâs flush darkened further as he was fought over, but the argument died when Crosshair kissed Hunter on his way out of the cockpit.
.
âHeard you had a run in with Tech.â
Echo looked up from where he was swinging from the sling strung up by the gunnerâs mount, setting his datapad aside. âIf you mean he kissed me, yeah. Didnât get him in trouble, did it?â
Crosshair chuckled and crossed his arms. âNot especially, but it took us by surprise.â
âWhyâs that?â Echo inquired, eyes curious as he took in Crosshairâs relaxed posture.
âWell, Tech usually isnât the type to make the first move, even with us,â he explained, and Echo could feel the heat starting to rise in his cheeks. âYou must really wind him up.â
As Crosshair leaned into his space, Echo found himself shifting to meet him. âOnly him? Or can I get a rise out of you, too?â
There was barely a beat between them before Crosshair ghosted his lips over Echoâs, and they were gone as fast as they came. Echo chased them, but Crosshair was quicker. âYou sure youâre okay with this?â Crosshair asked, eyes darting over Echoâs parted lips.
Echo faltered and leaned back into his sling. Was he okay with this? He had told Tech that he needed space to think, but was that only an excuse to make him talk to the others? Sighing, Echo shook his head. It wasnât fair to leave Crosshair hanging.
âHn, so you do have some baggage,â the sniper stood, giving Echo some breathing room.
âI havenât kissed anyone since my last squad,â Echo defended with a scowl.
Crosshair quirked an eyebrow. âYou kissed Tech.â
âAnd I told him the same thing,â Echo shot back, âand he kissed me, for the record.â
This was getting nowhere fast, and Crosshair seemed to see the same thing. Quietly, he stepped back and crossed his arms again, effectively shielding himself from whatever feelings he was keeping locked away. Inwardly, Echo winced. He hadnât meant to come off like he was rejecting him, or any of them, for that matter.
âCrosshair, Iââ
âItâs fine,â he clipped coolly, âbut donât make a habit of kissing my partners if you canât get yourself sorted.â
Echo bristled, but averted his eyes, staring a hole into the side of the ship. Maybe he hoped it would swallow him up and he wouldnât have to confront his feelings yet. That sounded nice. He heard Crosshairâs footfalls and listened as they grew distance, disappearing once again into the cockpit, seemingly to tell the others about being turned down.
Frustrated, Echo slipped his legs up into his sling and turned onto his side, facing away from where the others were gathered. Maybe this had been a mistake after all. He should call Rex and rendezvous with him. At least Rex still wanted him, and Jesse and Kix were still there to keep him from running away with his thoughts.
Hardcase had sacrificed himself.
Dogma was arrested.
Tup had suffered and died from what was being reported as a âmental relapse.â
âŚFives was shot and killed for knowing too much.
How was he supposed to just pretend like each and every loss didnât feel like a gaping hole being scraped out of his chest?
.
âEchoâŚ? Echo?â
A large hand shook his shoulder, startling him awake. The jolt as he sat up nearly tipped the sling, but a body beside him kept it from dumping him onto the durasteel floor.
âWrecker?â Echo questioned, his own voice unrecognizable to him. He lifted his flesh hand to his cheek and frowned when he felt the dampness of hot tears on his fingers. Damn it. âSorry,â he continued, shame coloring his features. It wasnât uncommon for soldiers to cry in their sleep, though the nightmares were more common with shinies. He was usually better at hiding it, though. âIâm fine. Go back to sleep.â
Wrecker fidgeted but made no move to go back to his rack. Worry was etched into his scarred face, and Echo didnât have the temperament to be gentle about it.
âI said donâtââ
âYeah, I heard you,â Wrecker murmured, âbut I donât believe you.â
Echo huffed and curled his cybernetic knees up to his chest. It was weird to try and hug them close. Metal dug into his skin, and it was uncomfortable to try and lay his forehead on top of the joints. More tears pooled in his eyes. Damn the Techno Union for saving him. He should have been left to die, march on like the rest of the Dominoes, like most of his partnersâŚ
Not be held together by fused skin and whirring parts like the monster that he is.
The sob that left him was quiet, but he might as well have been screaming the way Wrecker wrapped his arms around him and softly quieted his wails. It was weird, the way he could feel the ports in his head sinking into Wreckerâs chest, how tenderly Wreckerâs thumb grazed the skin where his scomp was connected to. Weird, but Wrecker held him like it was the most normal thing in the galaxy.
ââŚYou donât have to,â Echo sniffed. âI know what I am.â
Wrecker frowned. âI donât. What do you think you are?â
Echo could have actually screamed. âIâm a freak, Wrecker. Iâm more droid than human. I shouldnât even be alive.â
His words must have struck something deep, because Wrecker sat back enough to grip Echoâs chin and gently force their gazes to meet. There was a softness in his eyes that wasnât pity, though there was a bit of that despite how much heâd tried to keep it at bay, but understanding and compassion. Their noses brushed, and Echo let him press their lips together, firm, but chaste, with no hidden motives, the kind of kiss that was reassuring and grounding. It was the kind of kiss that reminded Echo of Hardcase after a mission with heavy casualties, kissing all of them and remining them that theyâre all okay, they all made it. It was the kind of kiss that Echo gave Tup when he got into it with Dogma, promising him that they would make up and things would be okay.
It was the kind of kiss that Fives gave him their first night in the five hundred and first barracks, after they were extracted from Rishi, when they didnât have any answers, but they had one another, and that was enough.
âWe all have scars,â Wrecker whispered against his lips. âSome are small and hidden, and sometimes theyâre big and obvious, but itâs how you wear them that makes the difference. For what itâs worth, I think yours are beautiful.â
Echo gasped, lip trembling slightly. It was the only time someone looked at him and thought that what was left of him was beautiful. No, not what was left, what he was. Wrecker thought he was beautiful as he was, even with the inconvenience of being mostly machine. It feltâŚwell, it felt really nice to be thought of that way, even if he didnât see it. So, he said the only thing he could in response and kissed him again.
âThank you.â
.
Stars hung in the black sky and the moons of Pantora were high in the sky when Echo heard someone emerge from the racks. Normally, he wouldnât pay any mind to it. It was likely Tech pattering around because he couldnât turn his brain off. So, he continued to stare out the window from the co-pilotâs seat. That seemed to be where he fit in the best, and he and Tech worked well together.
He wasnât expecting the glide of a bare hand on the back of his neck, massaging gently. Turning his head, surprise caught his features. âHunter?â
âI wanted to apologize about earlier,â the sergeant said and took up Techâs seat. âWe should have been open about the nature of our relationship, and Crosshair had no right to kick you out because he wanted some action.â
Echo sighed. Heâd almost successfully forgotten why he hadnât been asleep in his sling between Tech and Wreckerâs racks. Crosshair had exiled him to the cockpit if he didnât want to join inâŚactivities. To Echoâs credit, it wasnât that he didnât want to participate, but having group sex was a hell of a first time with a new body, and he wasnât sure he was ready for all that yet. Instead of torturing himself by staying to watch, heâd voluntarily left. Had he really been gone that long?
Judging by the way Hunterâs hair was mussed and the vaguely dark marks on his neck, he was certain that if nothing else, Hunter had gotten to partake in some activities.
âItâs fine,â Echo told a half truth. It was, to an extent, but he wished he had been brave enough to join them.
Hunter nodded, wringing his hands together. A nervous thing, Echo noticed. He was like Tech in a way, needing something to occupy his hands most of the time. It wasnât as severe as Techâs compulsions, but it was enough to draw Echoâs attention. Carefully, Echo reached over and took on of Hunterâs hands in his own. Immediately, Hunter latched onto it, tracing the lines of his fingers, pressing lightly on his palm, no doubt feeling his heartbeat through his veins. It seemed to calm him, though, and Echo smiled.
âIâŚunderstand why you didnât want to join,â Hunter started, âbut you should know that your cybernetic parts donât bother us, and that despite our own feelings, we respect that you still have feelings for your old squad.â
Echoâs eyes softened. They really had been talking about him, but it wasnât in the way that heâd thought they were. Not that he thought they were those kinds of people, but he had been so down on himselfâŚit was easier to put the blame on someone else than face himself.
âMost of my old squad is gone,â Echo said aloud, maybe for the first time since heâd boarded the Marauder, âand the ones that remainâŚwell, two of them were already together when we formed the polycule.â
âSo, you were left out,â Hunter finished.
âNot really,â Echo shook his head. âThey wanted to tryâŚbut Iâm not the same as I was then, and I didnât give them the chance to know me as I am now.â
Hunter hummed, still lazily outlining Echoâs fingers as though he were committing the way they felt to memory. âWhat about us? Think we might have a shot?â
A beat of silence fell between them as Echo considered the question. Was that what he wanted, to be part of another polycule? He certainly hadnât wanted to assume that they wanted him in that capacity, but the last few days have proved that, if anything, they were willing to try. All of the pieces were there, most of them already put together, all that was missing was the final piece.
Hunter lifted Echoâs hands to his lips and kissed it, careful and deliberate. âYou donât have to give us an answer right now, but the offer is on the table. All you have to do is take it.â
He stood, letting Echo retract his hand, and winked before returning to the rest of his squad, of his polycule, the polycule they all wanted Echo to be a part of. Echo watched his retreating back for a few seconds before he stood abruptly.
âHunter?â
Yes, he wanted to be a part of this, of them. He wanted someone to love, and for someone to love him, and he was going to find it here, with the Bad Batch.
Hunter turned just as Echo closed the gap between them, kissing him with so much need and longing that it took Hunterâs breath away, and he backed himself up against the console to steady the both of them. Hot, open-mouthed kisses left Echo gasping, and his hand shook as he tangled his fingers into Hunterâs hair, pulling him closer, flush to the line of his body.
It was only the soft clearing of someoneâs throat that forced them apart and left them panting for breath. Echo blushed a beautiful shade of red as Tech watched them sheepishly.
âItâs not what it looks like,â Hunter teased.
âThat is a shame,â Tech said with a small, crooked smile. âI was rather enjoying the show.â
âThen you shouldnât have interrupted,â Echo smirked as Tech crowded into his space. This time, Echo was ready and kissed him with as much passion as he had Hunter. Tech became weak at his knees, forcing Hunter to hold him up, and Echo quickly decided that he could get used to this.
It wasnât the same as being with the five hundred and first, but Echo didnât want it to be. He would always love his former squads, but this new one wasnât half bad. He hoped they would be around for a long time.
.
 10 YEARS LATER
Waves crashed on the beach, shifting the sands below. Over time, Echo knew that this place would eventually change. Erosion would claim it, or nature would, but in this moment, it would always remain as it was.
Beside him, Crosshair sat amongst the grain. He didnât complain about sand getting everywhere anymore, even when it got caught in his cybernetic hand. Next to him, Wrecker slept, head on Crosshairâs shoulder, not so much as budging when the waves licked his toes. Their hands were entwined, soft and familiar, and Crosshair idly stroked it with his thumb as he watched the sun begin its descent into the sea.
Out in the water, Tech watched the horizon as though he were looking for something. Echo could tell he was talking but couldnât make out what he was saying over the waves. Hunter, though, hugged him from behind and nodded along to whatever Tech told him, and took every opportunity to kiss his cheek, his neck, anywhere he could reach. Never again would Hunter let Tech out of his sight, or go where he couldnât follow, not after Eriadu and Tantiss.
It took them a long time, but finally, they were all where they were meant to be, together.
Something broke over the horizon, and Echo grinned as Tech waved to those who were waiting on the shore. Crosshair nudged Wrecker awake, but the way that Wrecker was on his feet and waving in an instant, no one would have ever known if not for the drool on his chin. As a ship sped into the cove nearby, Tech and Hunter trudged back through the water and waited patiently for the shipâs captain to emerge.
âHey! Iâm back!â
Omega waved as she ran across the beach to them, beaming proudly as Batcher trailed behind her. No longer did Echo have to kneel to be on her level, and she easily leapt into his arms, still not quite tall enough to keep her feet on the ground. Echo caught her easily and hugged her tightly. This was her first solo flight, to Lothal to bring supplies to a small rebel cell and back, and as far as he could tell, she had been successful. They had known that they couldnât keep her out of the fight forever, even though theyâd all wished theyâd had a little more time with her. After all, Omega wasnât just their sister, but their kid. They raised her.
âWelcome home, Havoc 5,â Echo murmured as he set her back onto her feet.
Omega smiled and leaned up to kiss his cheek. ThatâŚwas new, not unwelcomed, but definitely new.
âItâs good to be home.â

Getting into the pirateâs ship had been all too easy. He wasnât going to fail this time. CX-2 decrypted the coordinates before he put the transmission for Scorch through, âThe Trandoshanâs intel paid off. I tracked the pirate and accessed her navicomputer. She tried to cover her tracks but I broke the encryption.â
âWhat did you find?â
âShe frequented a planet in the Outer Rim. Iâm headed there now to do recon.â
âSend the coordinates. Iâll have a full division on standby if you require a visual on the targets.â Scorch provided before he signed off.
CX-2 entered the coordinates for Pabu.
--
âThatâs gotta be all of it, right?â Wrecker asked in disbelief as he saw the three of you approach and unload the next round of supplies.
âWe still need to grab the rations.â Hunter told him. âKeep loading up the ship. Weâll be back.â
Wrecker groaned, âFine. But at least bring me back an ice cone.â
âJust one?â You questioned with an enticing grin as you walked backwards away from him and the ship.
âNo, no, no. Youâre right! M-Make it two!â Wrecker corrected his error.
You gave a two-fingered salute in reply before you turned around and jogged to catch up with Hunter and Crosshair.
--
âI wish you didnât have to leave.â Lyana said lowly as she led Omega through the Archium.
âMe too, but Hunter thinks itâs safer for everyone if we do.â
Lyana led her over to a gap in one of the ledges. âWhat do you think of this spot?â
âItâs perfect.â Omega said with a thankful smile.
âSo, which treasures did you bring?â Lyana asked, her tone curious but respectful of what this moment meant to those that left things here and Omega would not be treated differently.
Omega tucked Lula under her arm and brought out Techâs cracked goggles. She held them delicately in her hands as she let the memories that they brought wash over her.
âYou sure you wanna leave these behind?â Lyana double checked gently.
âPabu was the first place that felt like a home.â Omega placed both objects down with the utmost care. âThis way, a piece of us is still here.â
Lyana laid a supportive hand on her friendâs shoulder. âWell, Iâll make sure these stay safe until you come back.â She looked at Omega with a new type of seriousness. âBecause you will come back, right?â
âI hope so.â Omega replied, the harsh reality of the day quickly catching up to her as she realised this would be the last time she would see her for a while.
--
âAnd where are you going?â Hunter asked with a questioning smile and tilt of his head as you separated from them. âWeâve got rations to get.â
You feigned disgust at the very idea. âHey, I have the very important ice-cone mission. I cannot be diverted with a mere ration run.â You said with a coy grin before you pressed a swift kiss to Hunterâs cheek and sauntered off with exaggerated determination.
âGet that lovesick smile of your face before I throw up.â Crosshair snickered with a roll of his eyes as he saw the way Hunter watched you go.
âShut up.â Hunter shoved his brotherâs shoulder before they carried on with their own search.
--
âI donât even think thereâs room on this ship for all this gear.â Wrecker complained to Gonky as he saw all that was still to be shifted and he knew there was still more to come. However, Gonkyâs cheeky honks of reply were not the commiseration he was looking for. âOh, yeah? Well, maybe I should leave you behind.â He retorted, smirking at the offended honks he got in response.
Wrecker brought more of the stuff on board, completely unaware that the proximity sensor had been flashing a half second before.
--
CX-2 landed the ship in the cavern and began his hunt.
--
Hunter paused as he heard the nervous squeaking on the island birds, their tone matching his own growing sense of unease.
âWhat is it?â Crosshair asked.
âNot sure, but I donât like it.â Hunter brought out his comm. âOmega, time to go.â
Upon hearing that, you gave up your spot in line and joined up with Hunter and Crosshair. Youâd make it up to Wrecker another time.
--
CX-2 scanned the bustling market stalls from above and that was when he caught sight of the two clones and the targets heâd been sent to acquire. He touched the control panel on his sleeve and got Scorch on his comm.
âReport.â Scorch demanded.
âIâve got eyes on the targets.â
âGround them and wait for the division. They must be recovered unharmed. No mistakes this time.â
âAnd the clones theyâre with?â He asked as he saw the group of you leaving the area.
âIf they get in your way, eliminate them.â
--
âWeâre sorry to see you go, but youâre all welcome here anytime.â Shep said sincerely. âThose homes will be waiting for you when you get back.â
You bowed your head in gratitude.
âThanks for everything, Shep.â Hunter said, shaking his hand.
Omega and Lyana shared in a hug.
âIâll see you soon.â Lyana said as she parted from Omega.
The four of you and Batcher started to make your way back to Wrecker.
--
The sun had almost set by the time Wrecker finished getting the most recent batch of supplies onto the ship, but he just took relief in the fact that he wouldnât be alone in shifting the next round of gear.
As he went to grab the last crate, he paused on the steps as he picked up on a faint but rapid series of beeps.
He recognised the sound.
He knew exactly what that meant.
He reacted quickly and with a shout, he abandoned the ship and grabbed Gonky just as the Marauder exploded, hurling both of them into the sea.
With the last of his strength, he managed to pull himself onto a piece of debris before his vision went dark.
--
Upon hearing the harsh echoing boom of an explosion, you all instantly ran to the edge of Upper Pabu and your heart thumped in a frantic panic as you saw the distant flames and charred remnants of what was once the Marauder.
Hunter brought out his binoculars and took in the scene. He saw Wrecker and Gonky floating in the water and felt his own panic set in at seeing his brother unconscious. He put on his helmet and started running for the docks.
You did the same with your coverings and Crosshair put on his helmet before the three of you followed close behind.
--
One of the locals had grabbed a boat and brought Wrecker and Gonky back to port.
You pushed your way through the crowd of people and stopped short as you saw Wreckerâs body.
Omega knelt down by Wreckerâs side. âWrecker? Wrecker!â Omega gasped, desperately shaking his shoulders to try and rouse him but it did no good.
Your stomach dropped to your feet. It took all the training you had to not lose control upon seeing the lack of response from Wrecker. He was strong, he was always so strong. He had to be alright.
âMox and Stak, take Wrecker to Shepâs. Deke, get Az-3 to patch him up, and fast.â Hunter ordered the regs. He needed his brother back on his feet. He needed him to be okay.
âShips donât just blow up. Weâve been compromised.â Crosshair realised.
Hunter turned his head from Wrecker to the sound of a deep rumbling from above and what he saw sent both a deep anger and dread through his veins. The Imperial Star Destroyer hovered above the Archium and a series of gunships swarmed down. âEveryone, get to cover!â
Amidst the crowds of panicked and screaming people, the four of you regrouped and found cover of your own.
--
Shep was helpless to stop the hordes stormtroopers from moving in. He could only watch in despair as his people ran in fear.
--
âCut off all escape routes. Destroy any ships or sea skiffs in sight.â CX-2 ordered as he remained unphased by the chaos around him. It wouldnât affect what he needed to achieve; it would only help.
--
You and Omega both paused as you saw the destruction the Empire was causing to the docks.
The only light in the night were the fires caused by the Imperial gunfire.
The only sounds the whirr of gunship and cried of fear that echoed around the island.
Kamino, the Marauder, Pabu⌠How many more homes was the Empire going to take from you?
From these innocent people?
And how much longer could you let it go on?
A glance down at Omega told you she was thinking similarly to you. You indicated your head back and you both joined the others in an alleyway.
âIs this our fault? Are they attacking because of us?â Omega whispered up at you as she kept Batcher calm.
You wished with every fibre of your being that you could tell her no. That they were the ones at fault but the own guilt residing in your heart made the words die before they left your lips. How could you reassure her when you couldnât believe the words yourself? It was never meant to go this way. The very thing you had wanted to avoid had happened and now you knew there was only one real way out of it.
Hunter crouched down. âItâs the Empireâs fault. Not yours. You have to stay focused. Both of you.â He implored with a helmeted look in your direction too.
âTheyâre destroying all means of escape and jamming our comms.â Crosshair said as he tried his comm, but it was only static. âWe have to steal one of their gunships. Once weâre out of range, we can contact Echo.â
âIâll handle it.â Hunter said. âYou three, get to Shepâs and wait with Wrecker until I signal you.â
You caught his vambrace and pulled him back to you. You pressed your forehead against his helmet.
Hunter had a distinct and sinking feeling that this was you saying goodbye, but he wasnât going to let that be the case- this plan would work⌠it- it had to. âIâll see you soon.â He said as he stepped away.
You couldnât quite meet his helmeted gaze as you nodded before you, Omega and Batcher split from him to head to Shepâs.
Hunter gave Crosshair a last meaningful look before he went in the opposite direction.
Crosshair knew what that look meant- keep them safe. And he would do everything in his power to do that. He followed you and Omega.
--
âLock down the town. Search every domicile until you find them.â CX-2 ordered the squadrons of troopers.
âWhat do you think youâre doing?â Shep demanded as he approached the black-armoured soldier that seemed intent on ruining the lives of so many people.
âWho are you?â CX-2 replied with equal parts disdain and curiosity.
âThe mayor of this town. Youâve opened fire on my village and its people without warning and without reason. Under what pretence are you attacking?â Shep seethed.
âWeâre here to collect some fugitives youâve been harbouring.â CX-2 brought out the puck and flashed the two images.
Shep made sure to keep his true reaction at bay- he wouldnât give you and Omega away if he could help it. âYou canât just barge in here-â
âIâve barely done anything yet.â CX-2 interrupted coldly.
âYou destroyed our docks and fishing skiffs. Our livelihood.â
âI have simply cut off their means of escape. But I can do worse. I know they are here. Until they are turned over to me, your island will burn.â CX-2 threatened as he walked away.
--
The path to Shepâs had been fraught with troopers and each time like this where you had to hide from the next roaming patrol only slowed things down more.
You peered round the corner of your hiding spot to see one of the villagers being forced out of her home and you heard her distressed plea.
âYou canât do this! Itâs our home!â
You were fighting the urge to go out and it seemed Batcher also shared in your current sentiment as Omega was doing her best to keep the dog quiet and calm.
And the cruel reply from the trooper that you heard next only confirmed what you already dreaded.
âWe know theyâre here! Where are the Jedi and the girl?â
âI donât know! I swear-â
The familiar sound of a slap made your blood boil. You went to reveal yourself to stop them but Crosshairâs hand on your arm prevented you from doing so.
Omega couldnât hold Batcher back though. The dog snarled and charged for the soldiers before they could do anymore harm.
âBatcher can handle herself. Letâs go.â Crosshair said to you both as he made sure Omega didnât go to follow the dog either.
--
You had managed to scale the wall up to Shepâs and opened the door.
âLyana!â Omega said with a relieved gasp.
âOmega! My-My dad, he said to hide here.â Lyana said fearfully. She ran up to her friend and hugged her tight, âIâm so scared.â
âI know. Iâm so sorry.â Omega replied as she parted from her.
You and Crosshair took off your coverings as you saw AZ attending to Wrecker.
âHowâs Wrecker, AZ?â You asked.
âHe is still unconscious, but his vitals are stable.â
You allowed yourself to feel some semblance of relief at that, but you hastily pushed it to one side as you heard another gunships sound outside.
The three of you ran back out to take in what was happening and what you saw made your chest tighten and curl your fists in rage- stormtroopers were everywhere, removing people from their homes, tossing them to the ground, arresting them. It was unnecessarily cruel, and it was all because you were still here.
--
Getting onto the gunship had started out as a stealth mission but quickly became one where Hunter just had to get inside without getting shot.
Heâd managed to do so but the pilot was making his life extremely difficult with erratic flying designed to fling him out. He had to take a tight grasp of the handles inside to remain upright.
--
Something else then caught your attention as you saw the unstable and irregular flying patterns of an Imperial gunship and a whole different kind of emotion swept through you. You knew the exact cause of that particular situation, but you were not reassured by the sight in the slightest.
âIs that, Hunter?â Omega asked both you and Crosshair as she noticed the ship in the air.
âYes.â You said through clenched teeth.
âUh huh.â Crosshair echoed nonchalantly.
But then, something shifted, there was a blaster shot and vessel nosedived down towards the sea in a way that showed that neither Hunter nor the pilot was in charge of the ship anymore.
A strained breath caught in your throat as you watched the ship plummet into the sea. âWhere- where is he?â You choked out as you saw Crosshair grab his macrobinoculars.
Crosshair scanned the water anxiously but let out a relieved sigh as he saw his brother resurface and swim for the shore. âHeâs fine.â
You bent forwards as you braced your hands on the wall and let out a slow calming breath before the distant sound of comm chatter reminded you of your current situation.
âHeâs safer than we are at the moment.â Crosshair hissed as the three of you retreated back inside Shepâs.
--
âWhat do we do? Troopers will be here soon.â Omega asked anxiously.
âHunter would want us to stick to the plan.â Crosshair replied, internally scrambling to think of a way out of this.
âThereâs no hiding, Crosshair. The Empire knows weâre here. They wonât stop searching until they find us!â
Whilst they were talking, you were coming up with a plan of your own. If you handed yourself in and convinced them that youâd already shipped Omega off-world, then maybe theyâd leave Pabu and the rest of them alive and in peace.
You glanced between Wrecker and Lyana and the door. You took a calming breath as you came to terms with what you had to do but a squeeze of your hand brought your eyes downwards. No. You said as you saw her nod at you. Â
âYou promised.â Omega reminded you.
This is different, Omega. Itâs not a choice you should need to make. It-
âYouâre going, I know you are!â Omega interrupted. âBut that wonât be enough, theyâre here for me too! They wonât stop and you know it. It is my choice!â
Crosshair clued in and realised what the two of you were arguing about. âAbsolutely not.â
âItâs our only option, Crosshair.â You said heavily.
âWhat? No, itâs not. We-â
âLook at what theyâve already done.â You said, a flash of anger coming through. âWe canât let the people here suffer any more because of us. Thatâs why we were leaving in the first place- to avoid this. We canât let it carry on. We just canât.â Iâm not risking anyone else. Wrecker already got hurt, Iâm not risking you and Iâm not risking Hunter. If I could help it, Omega wouldnât be coming but I canât and it kills me that I canât, but itâs how it has to be.
Crosshair went to respond to you, but Omega got in first, âIf we let them take us, it stops.â She emphasised.
Crosshair focused on the young girl, distress in his voice. âYouâll be taken back to Tantiss.â
âExactly. Weâve been trying to find those coordinates, and nothingâs worked. But if we keep our comms on us, and turn ourselves in, you can track us to Tantiss. This is our chance. Our chance to finally rescue the clones imprisoned there.â
âNo. Theyâll search you and find it. It wonât work.â Crosshair argued.
âThen shoot a secondary tracker onto the ship that they take us away on.â You suggested.
âToo many unknown variables. Itâs not a viable plan.â
âItâs all weâve got.â You countered.
âAnd itâs our choice.â Omega reminded him again.
Crosshair looked imploringly in your direction now. âTantiss is different. This isnât some random Imperial thatâll take you this time. Itâll be Hemlock. Who knows what heâll do to you there.â
You also saw a genuine fear behind his eyes, and it unnerved you. It wonât be for long, Iâll be alright. âFocus on the bigger mission, Crosshair.â You said aloud and you came to stand behind Omega and rested your hands on her shoulders.
âYeah, weâre just a small part of it.â Omega agreed.
Crosshair found himself in a position where he was forced to reflect on that, and he had to agree with you both.
--
The two of you got ready to depart but you noticed the reluctance that still graced Crosshairâs face and you approached him.
âHeâs going to kill me.â Crosshair said to you quietly.
So, tell him he was right that Hemlock was after me too, that outta smooth things over.
âItâs not funny.â Crosshair snapped. He didnât want to lose you both either. Not when he knew how important you both were to Hunter, to this squad⌠to this family. Heâd finally made ground with you, you were one of them, you always had been, and heâd welcomed that feeling again. And Omega, well, Omega had seen and been through it all with him already, he owed her much more than a half-baked rescue plan.
Yeah sorry, itâs a bad habit. You went serious again and shook your head. âHeâs not going to do that, Crosshair. Six months ago, maybe he wouldâve, but not now. Heâs not going to lose the progress heâs built with you either, not anymore. Heâll understand.â You glanced back to Omega who was standing by the door and regret stabbed your heart over the fact that this was to be her fate too, but you also knew that she wouldnât have it any other way. âWeâre very stubborn and determined individuals.â You said fondly before you looked back at him and placed a reassuring hand on his upper arm. âJust donât miss.â You said with a light but resigned smile that didnât quite reach your eyes.
With that, you and Omega exited the hut.
--
You caught Omegaâs shoulder just before you rounded the corner to make yourselves known. You crouched down to her eye-level. âOmega⌠you know if there was any other option that I could think of that would get us- particularly you- out of this, I would do it in a heartbeat.â
Omega nodded. âI know, but itâs what we have to do.â She said bravely.
Your heart broke a little bit more right then and there- this was something no kid should ever have to do, âYou had to grow up far too fast.â You murmured, both with sadness and a hint of pride in your voice as you gave her a loving hug before the two of you stepped out of your hiding spot.
--
âStop.â
CX-2 signalled the troopers with the flamethrowers to disengage as he heard the voice of a woman.
âWe surrender.â Omega said as all eyes, both Imperial and Pabu civilians turned in your direction.
âStay alert. I neutralised the other two clones with them, but not the third.â CX-2 advised as he approached you two.
âTake us and leave the island alone.â You said as you held your wrists out.
âThe people here are innocent.â Omega did the same thing as you.
CX-2 first put the cuffs on the young girl, âThen you never should have come here in the first place.â
âIâm assuming these are the special cuffs made just for me?â You said dully as the operative attached a second pair to your wrists, and you noticed the slightly different design of them compared to Omegaâs.
âWhy donât you try them and find out?â
The harsh modulated voice sent a cold shiver of fear down your spine, but you covered it up. âNah, you seem like someone who is on top of things, so Iâll take your word for it.â You were determined to not flinch under the unwavering glare of his helmet.
âScan them for tracking devices.â CX-2 ordered as he confiscated your knife and Jedi weapon.
As expected, the comm devices were picked up immediately.
âGive them to me.â CX-2 demanded.
You and Omega reluctantly handed them over before you were both shoved and made to walk between the squadron of troopers as they got ready to transport you off the planet.
--
Crosshair had watched the surrender take place and had been stealthily tracking and making his way to a vantage point where he could tag the ship that you were to be taken away on.
--
Hunter staggered to shore and collapsed to his hands and knees.
He felt the water seeping through the gaps in his armour, weighing him down, and it was choking him beneath his helmet.
He removed it and took a few recovering breaths before he became alert to the sound of rustling just ahead of him. He instantly got to his feet and guardedly drew his blaster as he waited for the threat to show.
But he was able to relax his stance as Batcher came into view and ran over to him with a happy bark. He bent down and rubbed her side with a slight grin before he glanced up at the Archium and the rest of the island, but he didnât see as many ships anymore.
And the realisation at what was about to happen hit him harder than he had hit the water.
Hunter grabbed his helmet and started running back, Batcher close at his heels.
--
You swallowed thickly as you and Omega were marched to the docks and forced to walk past the wreckage of both the sea skiffs and the Marauder.
CX-2 tapped the band on his arm and his ship came flying to meet the three of you.
You and Omega paused before boarding but an insistent jab of the butt of the operativeâs rifle prompted you both to step up.
--
Crosshair got into position and readied himself to take the shot when the flashlight hit him.
âOver there!â
He fired back at the small squad of troopers that had found him and dealt with them as quickly as he could, but the interruption had moved him out of the prime position.
He had to run for it.
His gait was rushed.
His aim unsteady.
But there was no more time.
The shipâs engines were powering up.
He had no choice but to fire.
The ship took off.
His tracker missed.
And he could only look on in complete and utter dismay and horror as the ship flew out of view.
--
âTargets acquired. Returning to base.â CX-2 transmitted before he put the ship into hyperspace.
You and Omega sat side by side on the metal floor.
Omega took off her hat and leaned against your shoulder. âWeâll have each other there.â She murmured, doing her best to keep her voice composed.
âYeah, weâll be okay.â You whispered back.

Been having Thoughts about the Mirror Batch! I picture Void and Memento with black hair (like most of the regs), and I picture Headshot with gray hair a couple shades darker than Crosshair's. Do you have any headcanons about what they look like? Or if they have any tattoos?
I'm so happy you asked! Here's your answer below. For anyone curious about these OCs, here is more information on The Mirror Squad
Physical Appearance of the Mirror Squad
Striker
It isnât often Striker is found without his helmet and his jumpsuit which helps regulate his hypersensitive senses. However, his helmet and suit canât protect him from the sensory overload of his own hair. For this reason, Striker isnât just bald. He is hairless. He has pale thin cuts over his body from shakily and obsessively shaving any hair he can find. Circuit crafted a laser hair-removal device for his brother to protect his skin from that dangerous obsession.
Striker has no tattoos.
His eyes are a stormy light gray that constantly bounce around his surroundings, drawn to every sound and flicker of light that isnât often heard or seen by his brothers.
Circuit
We actually get to see Cryptid-style images of Circuit in the series finale of Bad Batch. While Circuit's hair is cut short here, Circuit's hair tends to be up in a messy bun, his face scruffy from sheer disinterest in personal grooming until Headshot tells him to clean up. His hair is salt and pepper, the white strands borne from the stress of his augmentations.Â
Circuit is a brilliant artist and is covered in tattoos he applies himself. The gentle buzzing and the consistent rhythmic pain allieviates the stress of his overactive mind and calm his twitchy body.
While his skin heals, Crunch happily volunteers as his âcanvasâ and will sit for hours while Circuit tattoos his brother. Circuit's tattoos are a series of colorful vectors, geometric shapes, a strings of lime green binary that spell out things like âI joined the GAR and all I got was insomnia and this tattooâ and âIf found, return to Crunchâ
Circuit is leaner than his brothers teetering on underweight due to an instable, high metabolism and nausea caused by sleep deprivation.
Crunch
Crunch's pigment is lighter than his brothers, more freckled, with sandy blonde buzz cut and a neatly trimmed beard. His eyes are dark brown that are rumored to turn black when he is in "Rampage Mode", though this is mostly due to extreme pupil dilation.
Most of Crunch's body is tattooed at this point thanks to Circuit. Crunchâs favorite tattoo is on his chest of a Rancor wearing a rainbow party hat sitting next to a broken growth jar eating uj cake. This was a surprise tattoo from Circuit for Crunch's "Growth Jar Day", a holiday only Circuit and Crunch celebrate.Â
Void
Void, our Eerily Calm Soldier, has no tattoos as he does not see the point in them. âThe body is a decaying vessel, temporary like everything else.â Void does, however, see the point in paying special attention to his hair. In fact, Void is obsessive about his coal-black hair (black hair in honor of Fanfictasia's suggestion!), sculpting it daily into a short, narrow mohawk. His facial hair is meticulously groomed into a devilishly thin mustache with a stripe of hair on his chin.
Void has a multi-branched, red lightning scar on the right side of his chest that travels up his shoulder. The scar is from a mission gone wrong that resulted in Headshot saving his life, earning a permanent scar himself. Void never speaks of that mission, but he refused medical treatment of his own scar, wishing it to be permanent. It was a souvenir of the time Headshot saved his life.
Nothing "moves" Void emotionally, but Headshot's self-sacrifice was a fascinating event he thinks of often.
Headshot (CX-2)
Above is concept art for CX-2 ("Sniper Clone") by Dawn Carlos for the official Star Wars Bad Batch Episode Guide.
Headshot is the only Mirror Squad member that kept his appearance as close to a Regulation Clone as possible. It helped diffuse tension between his brothers and the Regs since the Regs saw him as a âfamiliar faceâ. This conscious choice was also part of his larger plan to convince more Regs to defecting from the GAR (a plan that ultimately sealed his and his squad's fate to be put On Ice, their memories wiped, and become CX Troopers).
Headshot's facial scar came from an IG-100 MagnaGuard's electro staff, a scar he earned saving Void from a fatal blow. Under normal circumstances, Void doesnât aid his squad unless directed by Headshot, but on this mission the injured Void scooped up his unconscious brother and carried him back to base himself. Void nursed Headshot back to health personally, firing warning shots at any medics who tried to approach.Â
Most of Headshotâs wound healed, leaving only a single long facial scar.
Void never talks about the incident, but the squad noticed Void was quicker to obey Headshot's directions after that day.

Thank you again for the ask @fanfictasia. These characters are so much fun to explore and they develop just a little more with every ask!

TECH MOMENTS PT. 1
Clone Wars S7 E1: The Bad Batch
Please ignore the terrible quality, I did my best.
- Coming in hot like thereâs no tomorrow.
- Tech has the best armor by far; his helmet is ADORABLE. Also, his armor has a lot more gaps than the rest of his squad. If that is to make it more maneuverable, ARE HIS GYMNASTIC SHENANIGANS A COMMON OCCURRENCE?! â¤
- That little head tilt when he sees the group heâll be working with. â¤
- Kix: âThese guys are clones? They donât look like clones to me.â I donât know if Tech overheard, but his eyes scrunched up as if he smiled, and he took off his helmet, like, âYou think they look weird? Check this out.â HE HAD THE MOST MISCHIEVOUS LITTLE SMIRK ON HIS FACE, AND I LOVED IT. â¤
- You can tell heâs nervous to meet these new people. Heâs just grinning so awkwardly, like, âYep, this is great. Iâm so happy to meet you all... Iâm overselling it, arenât I?â
- His little smile when Cody says to get going.
- He takes the slightest step forward when Jesse acts like heâs about to charge Crosshair. But Hunter gets there first, of course.
- Heâs the first one that Wrecker helps out of the crash.
- He also moves to stop Rex when he says heâll get Cody out of the wreckage. Literally, heâs doing everything Hunter is about to do, Hunter is just a lot more direct and always beats him to it. So itâs safe to say that at this point, if something happened to Hunter, Tech would take over.
- Apparently, Tech likes to crouch as an idle position. He does it here while theyâre waiting for Wrecker to get Cody out, and heâs also doing that in the one group photo of the Batch. (CX-2 does it at one point, too, and I hate it. They played us so bad.)
- He's right next to Kix when he's examining Cody. Makes sense since he's the team's unofficial medic, so he would be concerned.
- When Hunter says, "That's not our style," he gets a borderline malicious smirk. He's like "Yeeess it's been too long since I've blasted a droid."
- His ready position with his dual blasters. â¤
- Calling out the needed calculations and working perfectly with his team.
- They make camp, and Tech is just staring up at the stars. â¤
- His face falls a little bit when Crosshair challenges Rex. He's like, "Cross, what are you doing?"
-Â âUh, guys, come on.â He could be a leader, heâs just not commanding enough.
- His little huff and head shake like he canât believe his brothers got in a fight on the first day. â¤
- Taking down droids like a boss.
- "You got it, Cap." â¤
- âHmm. This is a delicate operation.â Wrecker kicks the door, and Tech looks like he lost a life.
- "We're in." â¤
- Dang, his eyes are so pretty. â¤
- Something about the way he jerks back when he first hears the audio of Echo. And then the look he gives Rex when he asks what it is.
- He perks up SO much when Crosshair pulls up and is the first to run for him.
- Actually caring about what Rex was looking for and asking what the CT number meant. When Rex explains and says, âHeâs alive,â Techâs expression changes from confusion to something closer to a mix of surprise and sympathy.

The thing is that the finale isn't even good outside of lack of addressing Tech. It just is bad all around. It's a bad episode that doesn't follow any of the established set up for season 3.
We started the CX subplot in season 2, and then spent 3 long episodes with CX-2 in particular. This apparently was... just to set up a big boss fight in the finale and for nothing else? We spent four whole episodes across two seasons on this and had several other set up moments! For a big shootout and nothing else?
And yes, the CX-2 is Tech implications is a big part of this. Some of them even remained in the episode. How else are we supposed to take Hemlock's line "The last time we crossed paths, you had just lost a member of your squad. And it appears history may repeat itself. CT-9904 resisted my conditioning in the past, but I've made alterations to my methods. If you all survive, you will make fine operatives." other than that he used those 'alterations' to successfully CX Tech? Literally thought that was what it was setting up before *waves hand*
The Zillo beast was used to rip open a hole in the wall so that the Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair can get inside. It served no other purpose and walked away.
We spent two full episodes on the m-count plot between Bad Territory and The Harbinger. This accomplishes nothing in the entire rest of the season.
We spent all season dealing with Crosshair's hand tremors, establishing they are a psychological response to trauma. So should we... emotionally deal with that trauma? NOPE. WE'RE CUTTING IT OFF. DONE.
A small thread was set up that no one is beyond redemption/help, we see Rex reaching out to a CX, we see Omega remind Crosshair that Ventress deserves the chance to change, and in the finale... NO ONE is given a chance to change other than Emerie, who already did last episode. Every CX and commando is shot down without remorse even though they're also victims of Hemlock.
In general we just have action interspersed with the scraps of what was probably a united plot at one point. There isn't even a cavalry arrives moment in The Cavalry Has Arrived. What happened here?
The thing is I can see two subplots that would have united ALL of these that almost feel like they've been scraped out and replaced with generic shooting and a generic and undefined 'and then they had a happy ending'
First there's the force sensitivity plot. This was actually set up as early as season one episode one, when Omega takes the shot at Crosshair and manages to stop him from shooting, and then elaborated on throughout when she connects easily with animals, leading up to Bad Territory and The Harbinger - where we see Ventress tame a large, angry creature through the force. So much is made of the beast taming angle.
And obviously we have a beast. The Zillo beast. Omega does not at any point interact with this giant creature to calm it down or do anything at all she just lets it loose to rip some stuff up, have some action sequences, and then walk away into the night. But these two things united would have brought all the moments of force sensitivity hints home, as well as tied in her biggest strength - her empathy and caring. Taming the zillo beast would have been the end result of her character arc and made all that set up go somewhere instead of trailing off vaguely.
And second we have the CX plot. This could have tied in the remaining dropped threads of making the CX set up matter at all, the CX-2 is Tech hinting throughout the season, Crosshair's hand tremors, and the thread of redemption and no one being beyond saving. CX-2 is Tech, reach out to him, bring him back and through that Crosshair addresses his trauma by starting to fix one of the consequences of his biggest mistake - going back to the Empire in the first place. It wouldn't fix his tremors entirely but would help reduce them, be a huge step on the path to recovery and a great note to end his arc on.
With these two subplots, instead of endless excuses for more action and grunting, everything gets pulled together for a finale that has actual emotional significance, and the thing is that all the pieces are there so what the hell happened to make absolutely none of them come together and instead it just turns into an action shoot out?
#the bad batch#the bad batch spoilers#tbb spoilers#fandom salt#I'M SORRY FOR MORE BITCHING BUT I JUST LOVED EVERYTHING UP TO THIS POINT THAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT FELL APART SO HARD

Star Wars: Imperial Shadow
in light of the third season of the Bad Batch, this is how I will think how Tech potentially operates as the shadow clone assassin known as CX-2, I must remind you there will be angst in this.
After his fall to his near death on Eriadu following his noble enactment of Plan 99, Clone Commando CT-9902 âTechâ, the brains of the Bad Batch and second in command to Hunter is rescued by Dr. Royce Hemlock of the Empireâs Advanced Science Division
however, Tech will have to feign compliance to Hemlockâs wishes!
He is taken to Tantiss on Weyland where he will undergo some reconditioning, however due to Techâs brilliant exceptional mind it doesnât work the way Royce expects. Scorch knows this, as he and Delta Squad had history with Clone Force 99 during the clone wars
instead, the reconditioning just made Tech more cunning and smart.
like Tech, Scorch has no choice in what he does and itâs something Scorch really regrets, he doesnât want to hunt down his rogue brethren but he has no choice.
normally, Tech would leave the handling of knives to Hunter and Wrecker, but with his rigid training to be a Shadow X assassin operative, Tech will find this in handy so that he can know and understand how Hemlockâs Clone X program works and operates
And so, Tech and Scorch will navigate their roles all while masking their true intentions from Dr. Hemlock, Emperor Palpatine and the rest of the Empire!
