Okay, so The Mabinogion is probably a good place to start. It contains four branches of Welsh mythology which sorta ties into Welsh Arthuriana because some of the gods (Manawydan, Pryderi, Gwyn ap Nudd, Mabon ap Modron, Bendigeidfran's head.) pop up in both. Also, it contains Culhwch and Olwen which is a tale concerning Arthur's cousin Culhwch going on a quest with Arthur and his knights so he can marry Ysbaddaden Pencawr's daughter, Olwen. It's believed to be the earliest-written Arthurian romance preserved in manuscripts. It also contains three other Arthurian romances which are either Welsh tales that have been adapted by De Troyes and then back into Welsh but with a twist, or just based on French romance tales that have been repressed for the Welsh. (Idk really know which one is true but they're all fun!!!)

There's also the tales of Lludd and Llefelys (a personal fave.), The Dream of Rhonabwy (a fictional dream containing Arthurian characters but also actually REAL LIFE Welsh ruler Madog ap Maredudd.), AND The Dream of Macsen Wledig which is essentially one man's quest to bonk a hot lady in Caernarfon. (Tbf, Macsen Wledig is somewhat of an Arthurian figure in his own right cuz he too is seen as a Mab Darogan (prophecised son) in Welsh Culture because he united the Welsh under one banner, and then died, and then Wales immediately split into kingdoms again.)

You can either access Charlotte Guest's translation which I am sure @queer-ragnelle has scanned, or Sioned Davies' new translation which has handy dandy footnotes and such.

There's also Gwyn Jones and Thomas Jones translation which uses a lot of the medieval language but was also made into a beautifully illustrated book by Alan Lee (An illustrator who is famous for LOTR illustrations). Jeffrey Gantz's edition is, I think, the most recently published edition but you can tear Sioned Davies from my COLD DEAD HANDS. Or, if you like poetry, one of my old English lit lecturers, Matthew Francis, has done a poetry version of the four branches! It's amazing!!!!

Also, Naxos has an audiobook version read by Matt Addis which uses Guest's translation but is good for listening to. I love it.

(You'll also want Trystan ac Essyllt, 'The Triads of Britain' and 'The Arthur of the Welsh' which are written by Rachel Bromwich, and I recommend O.J. Padel's 'Arthur in Medieval Welsh Literature' for more on how he's portrayed through that. And if you like modern re-tellings Seren Books has a box set of them! Each one is a re-telling of each branch of the Mabinogi, Culhwch and Olwen, the three romances, and the others. Very fun!)

Now in terms of my favourite things: Peredur being Urien's first cousin irl made me be like WHAT? Like, they're SO interconnected it's MADNESS. Urien, Owain, and Peredur are all related. Also, the fact that Welsh Arthuriana has swallowed up eight irl monarchs (Edern ap Nudd, Cunedda, Owain, Urien, Geraint, Peredur, Macsen Wledig, Cynon ap Clydno (Owain's sister, Morfudd's, lover), and Cynyr Ceinfarfog (Cai's dad), one poetic genius (Taliesin - who wrote about Urien as it goes!!! BTW read the tale of Taliesin. Sjdddkxk. The Jones and Jones translation has it, the Davies translation of the Mabinogi does not.), Emrys Wyllt who was the inspiration for Merlin, and sixty-seven thousand gods, as well as a few saints.

My favourite fact about Welsh Arthuriana is probably that Gwalchmai and Peredur probs had a relationship, Arthur is canonically in love with his boat, Cai literally says 'if u held my dick like that I'd die.' in Culhwch and Olwen, and Gwenhwyfar's a fuckin GIANTESS. 😍😍😍😍 I have many more facts but like I don't want to clutter the feed!!!!!

I have a lot of random Lost-In-Translation Swedish warriors stories lmao

Like how Ferncloud's swedish name is Fräkenmoln. Moln is cloud and Fräken is a type of fern (fern in swedish is ormbunke which basically means Snakebush). However. Fräknig is to have freckles. Fräknar is freckles.

See where I'm coming from? Ferncloud will always have freckles to me. I am also so mad how they named Ivypaw(pool, they haven't fully translated omen of stars yet) and Tawnypelt: Autumnpelt(Höstfäll) and Winterpaw(Vintertass) Oki one more, so Onewhisker has a weird name in English, right? Well it's even weirder in Swedish. Whisker in Swedish is Morrhår which basically means "Growl-Hair". Obviously they couldn't name him Ettmorrhår, so they decided to name him... The whisker. Yep. His name is Morrhåret. WHICH MEANS "the hair" IS A VALID SUFFIX?! Also due to this his leader name is Growlstar which is kinda cool since he becomes mean when leader. Also (this is the last one i promise), for some reason they made Brambleclaw's name Törnklo (I'd named him Bearclaw/Björnklo cuz Brambleberries are Björnbär aka Bearberries)! Törn isn't related to brambles, it's actually the thorns on a type of rose called törnros. Completely unrelated, did you know Aurora/Sleeping beauty is called Törnrosa in Swedish?

Apparently if you go on twitter and search the tag Santocielo, which is the title of the movie, you can find all of this but still. It's a comedy movie made by a well known comedy duo around here, and this all started when some italian good omens fans noticed the similarities in the first poster for the movie.

Admittedly this all started as a joke, but people started saying it was gonna be italian Good Omens and tagging the actors, Ficarra & Picone, as well as Neil Gaiman and the GO actors (Micheal Sheen for sure, that ive seen around that is).

He wasn't entirely sure that the exhibition about him at the Smithsonian was an idea, but he also didn't like people following him wherever he went. Maybe he could divert attention to the exhibition.

“We thought it would be a good idea to give some of it to a veterans' association," Nick interjected.

“Sounds good," Steve said. “About Bucky..."

“We have permission from his sisters' descendants."

“I'd like to have a space dedicated to him in the exhibition," Steve asked.

The others looked at each other and nodded.

“You don't have to be there every day, Cap; if you want to, just on the opening day, you could give a speech; you can choose what you want to be displayed and what you don't," Tony said.

Steve smiled a little. He had only wanted to help his country, and now that he was facing the possibility of having an exhibition at the Smithsonian, maybe he could use it to honor the memory of his friends and colleagues from that time.

Your talks about Missa's mischaracterization are exactly why I made a post specifically asking for Missa mains to give me their analyses for me to reference in Awake Me From My Nightmare.

I even went as far as to slap some parts of the post in Google Translate encouraging Spanish qsmp fans to reply to me and I'd just have someone translate their analysis for me. Which I did (thank u Kami ily). And I was so fucking happy when more of my responses came from Spanish speaking fans than English. Peak QSMP moment <3

But anyway yeah. Missa's characterization has been lowkey my biggest concern writing the fic tbh. I wanna do him justice. He definitely isn't written as a pathetic woobified uwu cinnamon roll, that's for sure.

I've been staring very hard at the paragraphs people gave me on his character and I THINK I've been doing a decent job at balancing the "gets overwhelmed by things" wet cat side Crows see AND the "um actually he could kick your ass and can be a bitchy little shit" reality?? Mans is getting lots of moments where he's like "fuck this" and gets ready to Literally Fight God. There's still lots of tears, but like, if YOUR husband was in front of you covered in his own blood and lookin like he's rapidly wasting away in real time, you'd be an emotional wreck too. So I'm decently confident in his characterization, but I still have that "AAAAA I HOPE I'M DOING THIS RIGHT" worry. 100% gonna be clinging to comments from readers about if I did him justice. So far I've characterized everyone (Phil, Fit, Etoiles) super well according to readers. 😭🙏🏻 Hoping I keep up the streak with Missa in Chapter 3.

The discussion you've been having is exactly why I'm doing my best to do him actual justice. And I might actually read back through your posts and translate the Spanish bits just to get even more insight. I don't see enough people talking about qMissa like this.

And on a semi-related note, GOD I wish there were more YouTube clip compilations of Missa moments. Like idec if they're not just qsmp, I want more of them in general!! Idk if I just wasn't searching well enough or what but when I went looking a while back, there were MAYBE 2 videos at all, let alone Eng subtitled so I could understand them. If we're narrowing it down to a single person carrying the fandom, it's definitely @1000sunnygo for not only compiling the most comprehensive masterlist of materials for the English-speaking fandom, but also translating countless fanworks purely out of love for the series. The thought is very sweet, though! 💖💝

I don't entirely disagree with what I think is the underlying sentiment behind this ask of wanting more insight into the characters because switching the main POV for different arcs of a story can shake things up and be engaging, but assuming we're working under the same chapter/time constraints, I'm not sure what new development could be gained and balanced by this with how much POV swapping we already do between chapters and within single chapters? Other than potentially more insight into the specifics of Norman's time at Lambda and post-Lambda escape, including the Ayshe-Norman conflict branch that Shirai consciously cut to streamline the story.

Would swapping POVs mean we're firmly locked out of any other character's internal monologues? Or would we see monologues like Emma's feelings toward Isabella, Emma saying she wants to be like Norman and Ray, Norman saying he wants to be more like Emma, Norman's incensed vow that he won't lose to Isabella, and Emma's reflection on how Norman's apparent death hurt her retooled later on in their respective POV sections?

Granted, the anime cut all of those too, but that's one of the main criticisms I've seen lobbied against it, even with how it reflects some of the essence of them in other ways. Still, I feel like the escape arc is balanced near perfectly in the amount of focus each member of the trio is given and at what point insight into each of their psyches is explored. That balance is what I would have liked to see replicated in subsequent arcs, specifically during the imperial capital battle arc.

A criticism I've seen toward this portion of the story, and one that I assume is one of the main inspirations for this ask, is how Ray comparatively fades into the background/feels like he's on unequal billing with Emma and Norman despite his prominence in the beginning. The series' Japanese logo even features three parallel lines that represent each member of the trio (minus chapters 30 and 31 when Norman's line was removed to fake out Japanese readers)

So for a lot of people to see him not be as engaged with his own agenda feels kind of jarring.

I don't mind him aligning with Emma's position at this point despite his personal reservations given the conclusion of the escape arc has his entire worldview being thoroughly reconstructed, but I would have liked more reflection and insight that we see crop up in the bonus pages since we have small moments like Emma taking some time to speculate if a person losing their memories constitutes death in the story proper.

(Chapter 159 Bonus Scene | Chapter 169 Bonus Scene; I'm very happy both of these scenes are included at all, but they're unfortunately among the casualties of Shirai trimming branches that don't feel as integrated into the narrative in the last few arcs due to the accelerated pacing.)

I also feel the story would lose some cohesion by displacing Emma as the main character given she's the main driving force behind the idealism that permeates the series and thus serves as the strongest unifier to keep that theme front and center. Similarly, I'd hate to lose out on how beautifully foiled she and Isabella are during the escape arc and having such a powerful and heartbreaking mother-daughter dynamic as a focal point of a shounen jump series.

I just got around to check the raws for this panel below cuz of, guess what? Another new english word for what we've already known as.... bloodlust. Or killing intent.

Here, "hostility" is actually supposed to be "bloodlust". Whereas the "antagonism", by right, should be translated to "hostility" or "aggression".

So I'd translate it to "Don't move. Suppress your bloodlust as much as you can. Takamura-san reacts swiftly to bloodlust and hostility."

Btw if you guys don't already know it there actually have been many english translations that are used for 殺気/bloodlust in the series; normally you also see it being translated as "killing intent". Once or twice they ever used other words like killing spirit, and also bloodthirst. So yall can choose whichever word you're most comfortable with or as how you've always understood it 🙏

Okay, now there's a character I have in TFP I wish I'd see more of. And this is my cowboy Autobot Wheeljack. So if I can't see more of him, I'll discuss him. Brace yourself for a Wheeljack/Bulckhead relationship analysis.

I really like this character, but it feels so wrong that he gets no good solid long talk with Bulckhead about their history (at the point of season 2. Haven't seen season 3 and movie yet).

There's 4 plot points that aren't really explored with him and Bulckhead imo.

Firstly, Bulckhead's hard choices that hurt Wheeljack.

Seeing how Wheeljack couldn't let go of Bulcky's abandonment of the Wreckers, I hardly consider that the dialogue between them was pleasant.

"Hey, you don't know Optimus as I do! Being a wrecker meant everything to me, but I left it behind cuz..."

"Because Prime was the real thing blah blah blah"

There's some kind of undisguised pain/anger in a way he says it. And yet they have no conversation about it, even though Wheeljack is clearly hurt. For some reason I feel the kind of betrayal in Jackie's voice and not only because of that particular abandonment (though it's the main reason). The other reason of this pain is a second chance that Bulckhead has lost/ignored waaay back in a first season. Remember how Wheeljack offered Bulkhead to go with him like good ol' times? Call me dumb, but I see it like some kind of a test, last chance given to his friend he hasn't seen in probably centuries. But he failed. He once again choose someone else above him, above wreckers.. And I don't want to antagonise Bulkhead, he might have had the best intentions at heart, but from Wheeljack's perspective it was another proof of the painful truth, which leads me to the second issue. Time's arrow neither stands still not reverses, it merely marches forward.

Secondly, Everything stays, but not actually.

It's an another interesting trait I see in WJ. He desperately tries to hold on the past, the Wreckers. It was kinda confirmed by Bulkhead's own words: "...... Because some bots never change, hah.....". This is also represented in Wheeljack's desire to get his old crew together by seeking his wrecker friends, offering Bulckhead to go with him. Maybe it is also why Wheeljack is so against Ultra Magnus. Now this is where I have a question. Since Transformets: Exodus is canonical to TFP, there's a strange contradiction between these two amazing narrations. TFE says that Wreckers formed under the Ultra Magnus' command after the siege of plateau Hydrax (sorry if I call somethings different names. English isn't my first language and I'm reading the translated version), but in TFP he was sent by OP to rule them for some reason. What should I believe? But anyhow, my analysis is also proven by his inability to go further in some ways. Being a loner and unable to work in a team Prime may be a subconscious repulsion of novelty. He doesn't want to be like Bulckhead back on Cybertron. Which, once again leads us to the second big problem in the Wreckers relationship I wished we'd see them discuss. "Do you even care?"

Thirdly, Bulckhead seemingly carelessness for his fallen camarades.

While Wheeljack was searching through the space for his Wreckers, Bulckhead stayed at Earth with Optimus, not even trying to at least contact some of them. I know it wasn't Bulcky's fault, knowing the situation, but it still might have just be yet another proof how Bulckhead moved on with his life, while Jackie couldn't do it for centuries. The another moment that planted yet another seed of this realization in WJ's head was once again the proposal Bulck has denied. From WJ's perspective it just seemed that some human he [Bulckhead] knew for a few weeks/months meant more than him, than wreckers than the precious past. Which is somehow very depressing. It's way too late for me to come up with interesting transition. "What took you so long, Bulck? Don't tell me ridin' with Prime made you...... Soft"

The last, but not least interesting thing I've noticed is BH's and WJ's different opinions on the commanders.

I think this is the last nail in the coffin of their past. Like I guess in late season two/season three WJ finally realized that no matter how much he'd like to be back to the good old days with Bulckhead, it is impossible. It was centuries, Bulck changed and there was nothing Jackie could do but accept him, like Bulcky and Team Prime (kinda) did.

In the end of this dumpster fire of an analysis of this relationship, I want to summarize all in kind of TLDR way.

Basically all I've meant is it's sad we've never got to see them talk deeply about their problems with each other. It would've been an interesting dynamic of a friend who moved on and the friend who desperately holds on the past.

In general, we do watch vignettes, but we haven’t seen every single twst vignette. I wish people uploaded them more without the official translation.

Ah yes, Azul and his alpha lessons 😭 Such a good vignette!! I really love how Sebek is completely immune to Silver’s attempt to assert any type of dominance. You didn’t have a winning chance here, Azul. The only thing you got is your friends laughing at you yet again…

Now, to answer your question! I think Lilia would be surprised yet amused at first because this is so unlike Silver, but then he would turn on his smug dominant face and say something like “you think you’re bold enough to defy your father? It is a challenge then and I won’t hold back”. And then he would discipline him… well, if only Silver had it in him to act that way in front of Lilia lol

And if Silver tries to be more assertive with his kohais, and Lilia happens to witness it, he would still be surprised and amused, but also kind of proud??  But also 100% sure that Silver won’t be able to keep up this act for longer than 10 minutes lol

You know, Anon, I had a feeling that Silver wouldn’t escape a Baul ship, and that this is the scenario I would end up drawing at some point, but the more I think about it, the more likely it seems lol One day…

But in general, having any kind of intimacy or relationship (even just some moments) with Baul would probably be so weird for Silver and fun for all of us to witness, considering he really is similar to Sebek (also once again, knowing nothing about ch7).

Now, whether Malleus would want both of them is an interesting question, but I have a feeling that he would manage to tempt and torment both of them lol He might enjoy the contrast between someone so young and eager to prove himself; and someone who is older and more experienced, and yet very obedient.

You know what, Silver will get himself into a Zigvolt sandwich too. Zigvolt sandwiches for everyone!

Oh my god. This is some “I have nothing better to do” behaviour, Jade really should get back to work and stop bothering Azul.

I've been watching a lot of people argue over whether aeon is canon or not and I've noticed a lot of aeon stans using that one argument that a dev team said Leon and Ada love each other in that one interview.

But then I see a lot of people say that interview was badly translated which confuses me? How do they know it's badly translated and why is there not a better translated video of the interview then (if there is I wasn't able to find it)? How can it be badly translated if it's from the official RE channel (at least from what I remember).

Can someone send me a link or explain it to me cuz I tried to find a higher quality video of that interview but couldn't

i've never seen the official translation -- and, to be honest, i didn't even know there was an official translation. the video that i saw was the JP devs speaking in JP with JP subtitles. there was an option on youtube for english closed captions, but that's not an official translation. that's just the english CC that youtube provided. if there's an official translation with english subtitles embedded into the video that capcom provided (and it has to be from capcom, not a fan translation), i'd be curious to see it.

i sent the video that i saw -- the one that was purely in JP -- to people i know who speak JP, and they came back at me with a translation.

so i hope that no one is trying to use me as a source for saying that that interview was poorly translated, because i've never compared the translation that my friends gave me to any other.

i've seen people misinterpret what was said, but that doesn't mean that any one translation is wrong or bad. it's just a bad interpretation on the part of the fans.

like, for example, take this sentence:

The patient had severe leg cramps after running for four years.

it's easy to misinterpret this as saying "the patient was running for four years (continuously)" -- but the reality is probably "the patient was running in professional settings over the course of four years."

that's really the problem that i've seen when this interview gets discussed. it's not a matter of translation, it's a matter of interpretation. and, in cases like this, it's important to look at the context in which the sentence is said in order to gain clarity as to what's actually happened.

for that specific interview, the devs were talking about leon and ada having fallen in love in OG RE2, and then they went on to mock how ridiculous it was. they made fun of leon for it specifically, and then they went on to say that they hoped they made the relationship between leon and ada more believable this time around (not confirming a love forming between them in RE2make at all, but also not denying a love forming between them, either).

aeons like to remove the statement from context and just say that the devs said leon and ada fell in love in RE2, and that's that.

i mean i could be wrong, but.

Yep! There was a stretch of about six years when I disconnected from all my fandoms and didn't respond to anything. Those days are past now and I make sure I always respond to any comment I get.

I used to be be a Smut Queen back in my OG TXF days. Not sure what's meant by "what kind"? Um, the kind that makes one hot and bothered? Het? Vanilla? I'll stop there.

I quit writing the more explicit stuff 'cuz I got bored with it. These days I'm more interested in the cerebral side of things.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

No. I have a hard enough time keeping a single set of characters in line. Can't imagine trying to do it for more than one 'verse at a time.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes. Someone from The Nanny fandom (who knew?) pilfered one of my TXF fics, changed the character names, and posted it. Weirdness.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, several. More than happy to give the go-ahead to requests like that.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, I wrote Doors with a fellow TXF writer named Alanna Baker. It was fun but I don't know that I'd want to do it again. I'm much more of a loner when it comes to writing.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Can't pick one and you can't make me. My favorites are the three I write for: Mulder and Scully, Vincent and Diana, Sandor and Sansa.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sticks and Stones, a TXF casefile I started a really, really long time ago. I also have a BATB WIP I've been messing with for the past year or so but I don't know if it will ever see the light of day.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, pacing, tone.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Will actually sitting down and writing be considered a proper answer? If so, that.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I did a few lines in Italian in one of my BATB fics but that's it. I can barely write in English, let alone another language! 😄

Beauty and the Beast.

I'll give you one from each fandom.

TXF: Kintsugi. Not my most popular, but this one was effortless and there's nothing I'd go back and change. My take on Season 7 (aka The Season of Secret Sex).

BATB: The Possibility of Being (see above for the link). This entire project was a love letter not only to Vincent and Diana, but to my writing mentor, Nan Dibble.
