I absolutely love this fandom sm but can we just accept that we literally do not treat the male and female characters in the fandom equally!??

Like let's be honest in canon Batry and Evan were as bad people as Bellatrix or even Rita (ok yeah I digress Rita was fucking problematic but lets be honest all the other 3 were death eaters who did terrible things)

While we r ready to baby girlify them both (trust me I'm the biggest supporter for this but plz don't forget they aren't there cute little kids they r morally grey characters who deserve their complex natures to be explored) most people r not ready to accept that bellatrix is also a complex character yes I do hate a lot of her actions like what the did with the Longbottoms (which Barty was also responsible of) and Sirius' death, but I can also understand that the least we can do is explore her character she is a Black after all and if we can completely forgive and give a second chance to Regulus then why not Bella??

Podcast Cover Art Illustration vs Animation Character Design

From their original design on the cover art of our fiction podcast - all the characters were changed a bit for animation!

This was mostly due to needing to simplify the characters to make them easier to animate (aka replicate over and over), but also have the opportunity for a few adjustments to suit their characters.

AURELIA

Aurelia is the most similar to her cover art illustration

Her uniform is looser, with sleeves rolled up - to reflect her more relaxed/chaotic character

SIM

On the other hand - Sim’s uniform is tight and perfectly pressed! Much like her.

We felt Sim needed different hair - something neater like her uniform, and also more gay…

Now all the characters have legs - you can also see that Sim is a short king!

Who knew how hot Sim was?!?!

MO

We needed to simplify Mo’s hair, uniform and remove the necklace

Also looking more gay now with the helix and tat! ☺️

Mo’s armpit hair matches her blue hair 😂

(In hindsight I wish we ditched the tat - because it was a detail that often got missed by the animators - so we had to add it in frame by frame in a lot of shots!)

Is there any meaning behind having dreams where I'm not the main character anymore, but they're being played by actors?

The other night, I dreamt someone kept trying to kill the character through horror movie villains, but it wasn't fazing the character so they tried to kill the character themselves, and the "camera" panned out and it wasn't in first-person anymore and so it turned out it wasn't me the whole time, it was a character being played by Jenna Ortega who snapped this person's neck, got dressed up for a funeral and then asked their crush out for ice cream

And last night, I dreamt about Pedro Pascal playing a transwoman who was a high school student and people were giving her so much shit even though she hadn't just come out, she'd been out for years, but people had just started to notice when she started to girlify her appearance and wear cute skirts and berets, and then her family bought her a car for passing her test but she'd forgotten how to drive and crashed the car trying to park it at school

But like, I don't often star in my dreams lately

i’m curious what your general thoughts on the characters were? i found the main cast pretty likable on average tbh

laura: i fucking love her oh my god, i was kind of surprised when i got to the end and found myself as into her character as i was. shes super cool, queen of costume changes, queen of being a rly cool werewolf, queen of having an eyepatch, queen of my heart

max: ohh my god this lad fghj i love him too, hes so..... Dopey idk how else to describe him. hes so casually hilarious idk if hes ever aware of it. he was super nice in my playthrough because i was nice to Him and i think he and laura are a great couple :'] drinks his respects women juice every day

jacob: he was living his jessice riley fantasy spending half the night in his underwear covered in blood. king of being in touch with his emotions, i loved that he cried so much and wasnt as much of the douche bag jock type (like he still Was a dick a fair few times, but im baby girlifying him)

kaitlyn: SHE DESERVED MORE SCREEN TIME WTF MAN like considering shes supposed to be the final girl to ryans final guy she didnt have NEARLY as much gameplay as him :[ which is such a shame because shes GREAT again super super cool, i Loved her and dylans friendship, the whole scrapyard scene was amazing and one of the best in the game imo

ryan: ohh ryan..... ryan ryan ryan. a friend said this yeaterday but he suffers from the mike munroe treatment where the game Clearly wants you to like him by having a lot of segments with him and in doing so it just made me kind of..... Not like him :[ i also felt like he was resistant to laura and the truth of what was goin on for Too Long, like at the point he should have realised the stakes he just Kept Going which was frustrating

dylan: i actually started of really not liking dylan fghj i thought he was kinda annoying :'] but he Defo grew on me once shit started going south. like once the very obviously a front started dropping he was much less of a pest fghjk AND like i said with kaitlyn, the scrapyard scene with those 2 was INCREDIBLE. also love that he asked for his hand to be cut off and then was like WHY DID YOU DO THAT!? nick: hrhhhhh okay. nick. man nick you really fuckin got my goat huh?? just snatched it up like el chupacabra. he was so fucking BORING dude, and when he wasnt being boring he was being kind of a dick >:[ even before the bite. the campfire scene im sure is gonna make a lot of people dislike emma but i would like to point out that HE KISSES HER BACK. QUITE HAPPILY TOO. so yeah, not a big nick fan, but i dont Hate him, i think once he gets bitten its actually a pretty interesting downward spiral

abigail: ohhhh abi you sweet baby. she was very cute and very sweet and UNFORTUNATELY that meant.... she was a lil one note. but again she was SO under used it was so annoying!! it felt like she was just there as a narrative device for nick and once he was out of the picture she was kinda pushed to the back. the parts shes in, all she rly does is.... be there fghj and from what ive seen quite a few of her deaths are being killed by her friends once they turn into werewolves

emma: controversial queen. my thoughts on emma are Complicated, especially after the campfire thing, and a lot of the time she felt kind of uninterested in what was going on which, considering her character and how she talks about putting up a front a lot of the time, i can understand. all that being said, i still love her, i think shes interesting, and i WILL defend her because i know how people like to immediately jump on female characters who arent totally """nice"""..... oh also shes in love with abi so

edythe - idk what to tell ya, guys, it literally comes from the same root name (ēad) as Edward and shares part of the same meaning. and I’m 100% on board for the weird fancy spelling—smeyer claims she found the “Edith” version too frumpy for her pretentious aristocrat vampire and she’s absolutely right for once

earnest - it’s the name equivalent of a sweaterboy and therefore PERFECT for soft and gentle dad!Esme. it was also red hot in the 1890s, so might actually be even better suited to the character than Esme.

top tier

beaufort - hmm. an attempt was made? I think it’s a good try. Beau is a great equivalent of Bella, and of course it needed a long form since Bella’s full name is discussed at length and even becomes a minor plot point when Ed is the only one to use the right nickname. there aren’t a ton of long forms for “Beau,” and “Beauregard” is probably too wild, but maybe the simpler Beaumont would have been less silly than Beaufort. 

jessamine - pretty good, since it’s a southern plant (petition to rename “confederate jasmine” while we’re here like uh yikes) and about as close as you can get in sound to Jasper. the one drawback is that there’s already a Jess (Stanley) in the original story for people to get confused with.

mid tier

carine - eh. it’s fine. there was never gonna be a nice easy way to girlify “Carlisle” and keep it vintage-sounding. “Carla” wasn’t exactly big in 1600s London, though Caroline could have worked fine.

julie - sure, why not. it’s cute and classic and comfy, like Jacob.

victor - very obvious but in an “it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” way.

low-mid tier

archie - like, it’s fine on its own, and I can see how we got from Alice to Archie, but Archie on its own would have been highly unusual for the period and long forms Archibald or Archimedes are wayyyyy Too Much and don’t suit the character. I think the obvious answer here was just...Alex? I know it sounds modern since it’s such a classic but to be fair,..so is Alice. Even Alan, the name they gave dude!angela, might have been a better choice. seriously there are so many boy names that start with ‘Al.’ really the only thing Archie has going for it is that it’s Cute which is what rescues it from the lower tiers

low tier

royal - baffling, dumb, irritatingly on-the-nose. like, in Twilight @stephenie we get that you don’t like Rosalie’s character but at least she has a decent name anyway. your audience deserved better than being bashed on the head with this. something like Roland, Ross, or Russell would have been much subtler and better.

joss - we couldn’t just have used...Jamie?? I know it doesn’t sound super 1700s but like. neither does Joss lol. the best choice would have been Jane, but that was already taken.

shit tier

eleanor - bad. it’s a fine name normally but stupid as a feminization of Emmett when Emmett is already a masculinization of Emma and also when Emmeline was RIGHT THERE

lauren - stephenie you needed a female form of “Laurent” for your 1700s rococo swag villain and you went for...LAUREN??? not Laura, which would have been fine, or Laure, which is literally French and would have been perfect, but Lauren, a name that evokes 90s sorority girls and also a character you already wrote in the same franchise

I think I can answer that anon's question. In short, a lot of anime/manga are targeted towards males, sometimes boys and sometimes young men. So, in order to appeal to these groups, they make the protagonist male. That tends to be the case in action anime/manga, whereas for females, action can be "girlified" (think magical girl genre). Of course, there are exceptions to this, but cases like this have been considered the norm for a long time.

thank you anon! i love magical girl anime tbh, almost all animes i watch and enjoy outside of jojo are either magical girl anime or slice of life anime about cute girls (k-on will be one of my favourite anime FOREVER. if i tell you that some of my favourite anime characters are mugi from k-on, mami from madoka, tomoyo from cardcaptor sakura, rue from princess tutu and mint from tokyo mew mew i think you get a pretty good idea of the kind of anime girls i like!!!!)

I feel like I'm gonna be diving in and out of seriousness here...

the name is wrong. how people are drawing bowsette is bowser + peach, when the '-ette' comes from toadette. either give me a cute ass bowser with pink polka dots and pigtails or rename her to bowseach

the practice of 'girlifying' male characters is a one with a long history of absolute bullshit. for starters, it's mostly done by straight dudes who are like wow what if male character but I can sexualise him. its a practice of putting a girl with big boobs and butt and cute face in a sexy Halloween costume based on the male character. there are examples where it's gone ok, such as Fiona from adventure time, but god that's rare.

because of above, it's kinda fraught to have bowsette as like. trans icon. she's designed for the enjoyment of straight men and it squicks me the fk out that to be like oh yeah she's a trans girl because y'all know the sexualisation of trans girls is a thing and it's a problem. and just a quick aside: if a real trans girl wants to sexualise herself, that's fine. if a real trans girl identifies with the aesthetic of bowsette (I mean bowsette doesn't have a personality so there's nothing else to identify with) that's fine. it's just that like pointing to a character who is significantly sexualise and being like wow she's trans that's kinda :/

and lbr we all know the trans girl icon of the Mario series is peach herself
