Saw another beautiful Barred Owl while on a hike with @thad-man. We love seeing owls on hikes....just a neat little experience.

So no clue what the phenomenon is called, but I've got that thing of "whenever you hear noises you have to repeat them" thing that some ADHD people have. It's not an always thing for me, but I do it A Lot when I'm out birding. I'm no good at it, of course, as I have a human mouth and no syrinx (a bird's voicebox), but that doesn't stop the chickadees from thinking some kid-chickadee is singing really badly in their territory, as chickadees love to throw down.
The problem is when you repeat a Barred Owl song (because ohmygod their song is amazing!) and the male of the pair thinks you sound juuuuuuuuust enough like an owl that he decides to scope your location. The amount of impulse control you gain when faced with the fact an owl would gladly smack the back of your head for singing terribly is incredible.

No real red flags aside from the beak being overgrown, which is an issue to be sure, but in the spirit of good faith I will assume that owl does get coped regularly and is just overdue for whatever reason.
The equipment looks appropriate from what can be seen, the owl is in good feather, and for the most part doesn’t seem too bothered. It is being rather cautious and alert in a few clips as can be seen in the form of the ear tufts being erect and the eyes half-lidded in a few instances. When first noticing new stimuli it does demonstrate some extremely brief eye pinning which is another sign of being on high alert, but not necessarily negative.
Intro clip: good, a bit wary of surroundings likely due to being out in the open in broad daylight which would be easy pickings for a wild eastern screech owl.
Freezer clip: extremely engaged, tufts relaxed and pupils dilated, a brief head bobbing at the end of the clip suggests intrigue.
Cash register: very alert, this area is likely unfamiliar and the owl is on the lookout. Tracks the movement of the register drawer to confirm it as not being a threat. Owl is not overly stressed though, just a bit anxious.
Water fountain: very slight eye pin here, similar alert and anxious stance to the cash register clip, likely another less familiar area. Seems very unsure about the fountain but decently interested in where the water pools before draining. Screech owls tend to enjoy shallow pools of water more than most other North American owls. No idea why.
Bathroom: still very alert, owls (and many other birds) don’t tend to love going through doors as they’re opening due to the sound, sudden influx of previously unseen visual stimuli, and being acutely aware of how exposed they are due to how much the door moves and thus could draw attention. It handles it well though and warily takes the new surroundings into account.
Bin: unsurprisingly, the owl is a big fan of this one. Screech owls both nest and hide in cavities to keep safe from predators. They love crevices. They love hole.
