I tried the Kroger Breaded Cut Whole Okra Southern Style and it was pretty good.
These were deep fried and later microwaved.
These were lightly crunchy in texture with a light vegetable oil taste while the okra had a light fresh okra taste without the slimy okra texture.
These were lightly salty.
I would eat this again.
Got at Kroger.

#ughhh i tried drawing a br0 /cal comic idea i had but all i really got was the complete sketch#im just not in the right mindset to be drawing right now. probably because im in a lot of pain lol#its stressing me out bc i havent drawn in a while but i have so many ideas written down that i want to do and multiple wips#both drawing and writing#i had a long day so im just gonna fuck off in bed for a while prob scroll tumblr maybe try to write or read#i spent like 2 and a half hours cooking jambalaya earlier (when standing for even 5 minutes is excruciating) so im exhausted#i was like sobbing into my (intentionally extra slimy) okra infested food#there was an entire pack of okra i put in there and i made SURE to cut and cook it the way that makes it slimier and ...#... it was THE BEST mouthfeel ever the food was SO good (even tho i forgot worcestershire sauce rip my fav lol)#the zucchini was slimy and melty the shrimp was melty the chicken and chicken sausage was so good#omg but i was like crying the whole time i ate it bc pain#its hard enough to cook when im 'not' in pain because standing hurts#the slime was worth it but it was at the cost of the rest of the day. at least i have a ton of leftovers#but im gonna need to clean and freeze the second pack of okra tomorrow. no way i can eat all that on top of the food from today#so im scared for that bc i only have a couple more painkillers (i need to save them for things like. cooking for 2 hours.)#when is my back gonna get better im so tired of this!#anyway.#vent#personal#delete later / /

i promised y'all recipes but i forgor
it's ok im fixing it now tho
anyway. hi. hello. i eat a lot of rabbit. i am also blessed by god to be one of the few, the chosen, the descended from the acadians who were blessed with the ability to cook food that doesn't suck. you can trust me. màmaw cécil's ici.
just a fair warning though these recipes kinda assume you have basic cooking skills, and things are measured with the heart as my ancestors intended.
onward to the recipes
the tried. the true. the rabbit gumbo
one whole rabbit
half an onion
one package of andouille sausage (or other spicy pork sausage)
a bell pepper if you like
some okra if you like
some garlic
a jar of dark roux (savoie's is my go-to)
tony chacherie's
tabasco
filé
a good long-grain rice
debone the rabbit and cut into chunks, or pressure cook until it falls off the bones. you can also cook the rabbit IN the gumbo but this method takes a long time and is a PITA, but you do get all the good rabbit grease in the gumbo.
fill a large stock pot about 3/4 the way up with water and set to boil. add salt until it's salty to the taste. add about five to seven heaping spoonfuls of roux and let it dissolve while the pot comes to a boil.
while you wait, chop the onion and bell pepper into a rough dice and add it to the pot. i'm sure someone's màmaw will tell you what to do with okra, but i don't like it so idk. i just know some people put it in their gumbo. not me tho. tbh i don't even like bell peppers but it's traditional. anyway you can put some garlic in too. and tony's. lots of tony's.
cut the sausage into about quarter inch rounds and throw 'em in too. if you did not precook your rabbit, add it now. if you did precook, you can add it once the vegetables and sausage are cooked. around this time is also when i put the rice on.
once all the meat is done cooking, taste for seasoning and adjust as desired. it should be salty and a little spicy (or a lot, if you aren't a coward.) now all you have to do is wait for the rice to finish.
when everything is done, scoop some rice into a deep bowl (a soup crock is ideal) and pour gumbo over, making sure you get a bit of everything. top with tabasco to taste, and a healthy dash of filé.
some variety of sausage
1 - 2lbs of ground rabbit
soy sauce
garlic rice wine vinegar (if you can't find it, normal RWV works just add more garlic)
rubbed sage
garlic powder
minced garlic (if not using garlic RWV) (or if you just want it)
brown sugar
drizzle a little oil (i like using sesame oil) in a saucepan and put in ground rabbit. as it cooks, cut it up into small chunks with your utensil. once it's cooked, throw in all the rest of the everything and season with salt and pepper and a little msg if you got it. measure with your heart and taste as you go. you are shooting for a sort of savoury-sweet thing going on. it should be closer to a breakfast sausage in taste.
this goes really good in a dumpling, fried into a patty, or turn it into a white gravy with some milk and flour and put it over rice with creamed corn for a nontraditional but still delicious rice and gravy.
german rabbit stew

alfredo mushroom rabbit pasta
roughly one cup per person's worth of cooked, shredded rabbit
as many portobello mushrooms as your heart desires
minced garlic
a jar of alfredo (or make your own i ain't your mom)
your pasta of choice
pretty straightforward. put your pasta on to boil (we like penne.) chop up your mushrooms and sweat them out in a saucepan. when they're cooked enough, toss in the alfredo, the minced garlic, and your rabbit. season with salt/pepper/whatever else you like to taste. when the pasta is done, combine pasta and rabbit mixture and enjoy
just the filling part of pei wei's lettice wraps but on rice instead
1lb ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
hoisin sauce
teriyaki sauce
hot chili oil
green onion (grunion)
sesame seeds
short-grain rice
set your rice to cook. when it's almost done, roughly dice onion and set it to cook in a little oil (i like seasme for this.) when it turns translucent, add ground rabbit and garlic. once the rabbit is cooked, throw all the other sauces in to taste. it should be hoisin-forward, a little sweet and savoury. add some cayenne and more chili oil, maybe some gochujang, whatever, if you want more spice. eat it with rice and top with sesame seeds and grunions, i like some shichimi togarashi too sometimes. maybe a lil fried egg if you're feeling sassy.
i made this up from a dupe recipe for a lettuce wrap i liked at a restaurant so you could put it in lettuce too if you wanted. i just don't ever buy a whole head of lettuce.
weird midwestern chili
1-2lbs of ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
one large can or two small cans of petite diced tomatoes
1-2 habañero peppers (or none if you're yankee)
some sort of stock or broth, or water and a bouillon cube
chili powder
sometimes corn is nice in this if you have it
pasta of your choice
i use my instant pot for this, but you can do it without one in a normal stockpot, it'll just take longer.
brown the rabbit in a little bit of oil with the pot on sauté. while you wait, chop up the onion, garlic, and pepper. when the rabbit is browned, throw everything else in the pot besides the pasta. pressure cook for about 15-20 minutes.
in the meantime, set a pot of pasta to boil. we like farfalle.
when the chili is done cooking, season further to taste with more chili powder, cayenne, tony's, whatever you like. serve on the pasta. i know, i know, it ain't chili to me either, but that's what my friend's minnesotan family calls it and whatever it is, it's damn good so i forgive them.
rice that is dirty AND ugly
1-2lbs ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic i guess
about four or five rabbit or chicken livers
long-grain rice
tony's
set the rice to cook. brown the livers in some oil until they are just barely not-raw. then blitz 'em up in a food processer until they are mush. while you do this, brown some ground rabbit and onion and garlic if you want it in a saucepan. when it's browned, add the livers and just. stir it all together. if it's too dry you can add stock or some water. does it look horrible? you're doing it right. season to taste once it's cooked through. add in rice and mix. i promise to god it tastes better than it looks.
for bonus points, mush dirty rice into balls and dredge in egg and seasoned cornmeal and deep fry or air fry until golden brown. ta da, your very own boudin balls.
i guess you can also run the mixture into a sausage casing for 'normal' boudin too.
('but what about the gizzards cécil' i have tried for years and i can't make gizzards palatable. they just end up weird and tough and i don't like the texture in the dirty rice. you know how to make 'em work, you go for it.)
mexican meatloaf that is neither mexican nor meatloaf
1lb ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
one can of petite diced tomatoes
one can of whole corn
one can of pork n beans
(optional can of kidney beans or other bean you like)
taco seasoning
shredded yellow cheese
sour creme
tabasco
fritos
chop onion into a rough dice and put in a saucepan with a little oil. when onion is translucent, throw in rabbit to brown. when meat is cooked, thrown in everything that comes in a can, and the taco seasoning. i use about half a packet, but you can do to taste. once it's cooked, spoon over fritos and top with shredded cheese and sour creme. i like a dash of tabasco too.
absoutely a 'hear me out recipe' but if you like frito pie you will probably like this. most importantly, though, it makes a TON of food and for very cheap. excellent end of the month meal. also idk why it's called mexican meatloaf that's just what my mom called it and i'm pretty sure she made it up herself lol
rabbit jambalaya that makes my ancestors cry
approximately one half a rabbit's worth of shredded rabbit
one can of petite diced tomatoes
andouille or other spicy pork sausage
half an onion
bell pepper if ya like it
celery if ya like it
rabbit or chicken stock/broth
tony's
long-grain rice
if you are starting with a whole rabbit, either debone, chop into chunks, and cook, or pressure cook the rabbit until it falls off of the bone. set your rice to cook.
chop veggies and toss em in a saucepan with a little bit of oil or butter. sauté until soft, then add your tomatoes, broth, andouille, and rabbit. when it's all warmed through, add the rice in and mix. season with tony's, crab boil, cayenne, whatever, to taste. put some tabasco on that bitch before you eat, and enjoy.
(my ancestors cry because i'm cajun and traditionally we don't put tomatoes in our jambalaya. mais c'est bon, escuse-moi les anciens.)
creme cheese rabbit joes or whatever
one whole rabbit
one block of creme cheese
one packet of ranch seasoning
jar of pickled jalapeños
shredded cheddar cheese
your favourite burger bun
we use an instant pot, i guess you could probably do it on a stove if you had to but keep an eye on the liquid levels. pressure cook rabbit with half of the ranch seasoning packet and as much jalapeño juice as you want (it should have a kick.) when meat is tender, remove bones and drain liquid into another container (it makes a great stock if you want something with a little pizzaz.)
turn the instant pot on saute, and then put meat, creme cheese, cheddar cheese, jalapeños to taste, the rest of the ranch powder if you want, and as much jalapeño juice or the stock you just made until it's the consistency you want. it should be pretty creamy and a little gloopy. toast your buns, slop the goop on, and enjoy.
well these are the ones i can remember off top my head/that i actually eat regularly. we also make burgers and stir fry and curry rice and shit too, but those are like...y'know. don't really need a recipe for burgers and stir fry.

Fireside
Jake "Hangman" Seresin
Synopsis: Jake wants to make sure his wife's terrible work week ends with a bang.

This week was one of those weeks Mrs. Seresin had to remind herself she loved her job. Most of the time, her clients were a joy. Even her selective clients—she enjoyed the challenge they brought.
What made her sometimes rethink her line of work were the naysayers and women who were mean to her because their husbands had wandering eyes.
She was not looking forward to potentially taking a client to court. Her drive home was spent on the phone with her attorney and accountant, revisiting the terms of her work agreement. She always had the option to terminate a contract but needed to weigh the financial loss.
Jake knew his wife had been having a rough week, and he was determined to end it on a high note.
Many of his higher-ups had a soft spot for his wife, and he wasn’t afraid to use that to his advantage. Yesterday, he used it to ensure he was able to leave work early today. On his way home, he picked up some groceries to surprise her with dinner—any excuse to use the outdoor kitchen.
A sucker for his wife’s three-legged best friend, Jake also came home early enough to take Ruck for a run. After their jaunt, he prepared the things that needed to be marinated for dinner before popping upstairs to shower.
Mrs. Seresin was surprised to see his truck in the driveway as she neared the house. Tempted to rush her call, she patiently sat in her vehicle and finished it. She was not surprised that Ruck was the first to greet her as she entered the house.
It was silent as she set down her things and wandered around, looking for Jake. Finally, she stumbled upon him, barefoot, shirtless, clad in gray sweatpants—slung low on his waist—and messy, wet hair. He was dicing okra and tending the grill.
“Hi, chef,” she said as she slipped out the door into the backyard. He greeted her with his bright smile. Jake stopped and sat the knife on the counter as she wrapped herself around him. She rested her cheek on his bare chest, relishing the feeling of the hair there as they hugged. The tension in her body told him her day was just like the other four this week.
Jake kissed the top of her head, and then she looked up at him by resting her chin on his pectoral. He leaned down and kissed her lips. She pushed onto her toes to deepen it. He smiled into the kiss, and then broke it. “You should shower while I finish dinner.”
She closed her eyes and pushed her lips into a pout, pretending to think about it. “Fine.” Feigning a whine, she untangled herself. He smacked her ass as she turned to head into the house, and then he acted like he’d done nothing as he went back to cutting okra. She glanced over her shoulder and narrowed her eyes at him.
The shower was a welcome reprieve from the day. She stood under the showerhead and let the water rush down her body. She replayed her day in her head before letting herself think about the evening with Jake. Curled up, with healthy pours of wine, next to the outdoor fireplace. Ruck at their feet.
Her thoughts of the evening ahead were interrupted as her stomach growled. Remembering she had skipped lunch, she quickly finished her shower to get to whatever deliciousness Jake was cooking. She had a hunch she was getting a signature Texas comfort meal.
Since his outfit was nothing but gray sweatpants, she decided on a silk tank-short set and a long cardigan.
Ruck escorted her down to the kitchen where Jake was aerating one of their favorite red wines. She sidled up behind him and wrapped her arms around his narrow waist as he poured the last bit of the bottle into the decanter. She placed a few kisses along his spine, and then moved to stand beside him. She rested her palms on the counter as she patiently waited. Finally, he slid a glass in front of her.
Her lips curved into a soft smile. “Thank you.” She rocked onto her tiptoes to kiss him. Jake turned toward her, snaking his arm around her waist and pulling her to him. A moan escaped her as he licked into her mouth. “You were sipping while you poured!” she teased as they parted.
He grinned, and then placed a kiss in the center of her forehead before he snagged his glass and headed back outside. “I should check the grill.” He sniggered as he walked away.
While he was grilling and sautéing, she wandered over to the fireplace. It was one of her favorite renovation projects in their home. She returned the smoke-stained, white-washed brick to its former glory.
Wine in one hand, she shuffled logs from the woodpile to the hearth, stacking them in the perfect formation. One match and a handful of fire-starter later, flames began to creep along the ridges of the logs. The wood began to char as the heat bled into the cracks.
The sun was beginning to set and it was going to be the perfect night. Cool enough the flames and a sweater provided an extra warmth, but warm enough not to be wholly dependent on the fire.
Mrs. Seresin poked and prodded logs, moving them to prolong the burn. Ruck sat just out of range of jumping embers and supervised as she worked.
Soon after the fire was blazing, Jake summoned his wife to the dinner table. Her chair was pulled out, and then he stood behind and pushed it in as she sat. She looked up at him and he bent over her to give him a thank-you kiss.
Jake was no slouch in the kitchen, especially the outdoor kitchen. Her mouth watered as she looked at the spread on the table—fried okra, garlic parmesan crusted carrots and a quick-and-dirty smoked brisket that he had come to perfect over years sans smoker.
“Oh! One more thing.” He jumped up and jogged over to the grill. She spied the wine bottle and topped off hers and his glasses while she waited. Finally, he came back over with a single-serve baking dish.
The minute he sat the container down, she knew what it was. She smiled as he pulled the lid off to reveal crispy, bubbly golden macaroni and cheese.
Jake took his seat beside her and began to fill her plate. As he filled his own, she moved her chair so they were angled toward each other and their plates touched.
She watched Jake until he was finished and looked at her. “I hope this is helping your week end on a high note.” He gave his signature smile.
It was infectious, and she couldn’t help but respond with a grin. “Mhmm, feed me some mac and cheese, and we’ll find out.” Jake stabbed a few cavatappi and fed them to her. She closed her eyes as she chewed, enjoying the buttery, salty combination that coated the noodles. They fed each other bites of brisket, okra and mac and cheese until their plates were empty. Never forgotten, Ruck got his own cubed piece of meat to enjoy.
Jake shooed her away as he cleaned up after dinner, so she wandered back over to tend to the fireplace. The flames crackled as the charred wood crumbled into white ash, collecting in the hearth. She stared into the flames and nudged the embers with the poker.
“Might as well throw at least one more log on.” She turned to find Jake with another bottle of wine, refilling their glasses. He took a swig of his drink and then wandered to the logpile. He sidled up beside her to position the log among the embers. Once his hands were empty, he snaked them around her waist as he stood behind her and his lips met her temple. She closed her eyes and enjoyed his embrace. She hummed as his lips found her jaw and then her neck.
She pressed herself against him as he continued to kiss whatever bare skin he could reach. Using his chin and nose, he nudged her sweater off her shoulders to expose more. She obliged him, helping slack the fabric to rest in the crooks of her arms.
Her backside pressed against his crotch, which made him groan. His hands found their way to the waistband of her shorts. He practically growled as his fingers dipped to her bare pussy. “Before I go anything further, how exactly did you see the rest of the evening going?” The fire danced as she stared into it. They swayed ever so slightly while Jake ghosted circles on her pubic mound and peppered kisses on her neck as he awaited a decision.
A moan dropped from her mouth as he kissed her in just the right spot. She spun in his arms to face him and forced his hands to shift to her rear. Tucked under her sweater, one of his thumbs absentmindedly stroked her “good girl” tattoo. Her arms coiled around his waist as they stared at one another.

“Y/N, how is the mise en place for tonight looking?” Her friend questioned her.
“Don’t you worry about me, Lix. Worry about that Gumbo thats burning on the stove.
He hurried away to continue his family meal for the rest of their colleagues, Stirring the stew.
Three years of culinary school, two years of training with the best pastry chefs that were around the world. Paris, Copenhagen and Brussels were the places she had trained and all of them took a lot from her. It was hard but it made her who she was and it got her to where she was today.

She liked her colleagues. Felix and her had made the pastry their own and powered through the short and difficult days. Hyunjin had also become a good friend of hers and that made her rough days there better.
There was only reason why the days were so bad to start with. Her only problem with this team was the chef. Never in her short but eventful carrier, she had even met a man like him. Not every experience is supposed to be a good one.

"Stop looking at me." She blushed and looked away, hoping he hadn't seen it. But someone had.
"Im sorry. Ill stop. Finish those and help me with family meal?" She nodded in response and watched him walk away to the stove where he had a stew cooking for dinner.
After a little while she left her macarons to rest for a little bit as the shiny layer needed to turn matte before pushing them into the oven. Leaving them alone she made her way over to her Friend.
"What can I help you with, Lix?" He turned around from his conversation with Hyunjin and stood next to her over the stew.
"Can you cut the okra, chorizo and the green onion? I want to add it last so that it stays crunchy at the end." She nodded in response and made a station next to Hyunjin. As she did the stuff Felix had asked her to do, Hyunjin poked her in her side to get her attention from her. To keep him annoyed a little bit she waiting with responding until he yelled.

She slammed the door closed behind her, rushed her way past her colleagues with her hand in the air as in a motion for them to not touch her and when Felix tried to grab her hand she shook it away. Not wanting anything to do with him at this moment.
It took all of them a moment to realise what just actually happened and as soon as it was processed, Felix stepped into the office, Hyunjin following him closely.
Not a single tear was waisted on that pathetic excuse of a leader on her drive home. She couldn't help but laugh a little bit mixed with the anger she had let out. It had been building up for a while and now that it was all let out she felt sooo much better.
She didn't even worry about her job, she could easily get another one. Another thought crossed her minds but quickly pushed it away.
Sitting down on her couch she let herself sink in and enjoy the weight that had dropped off her shoulders.
Walking to her kitchen she grabbed a bottle of wine and poured herself a glass. After that she changed into her pyjamas and sat back down on the comfortabel couch, not planning to get up again.
What would she do. There were about twelve job offers she could consider but was that really what she wanted. Was this where she wanted to take her talent. Her mind wondered to a new place, her place. She had an investor that would be interested in her doing this so realistically it would work. But what that something she was ready for.
A knock on her door interrupted her thought. She groaned out of frustration not wanting to get off of the couch. She waited 10 seconds before opening her front door.
Standing in front of her in all of his glory was Felix. His now long blond hair was a bit wet from the light rain outside. He only smiled at her, opening his arms for a hug which she gladly accepted.
She found comfort in his arms and it eased her mind. His hand held she back of her neck closer to him and they just stood there for a minute before letting go and coming back inside. Without talking they sat down on the couch. She sat between his legs and halfway layed on his chest.
"What happened after I left?" She questioned, taking his hand in hers and playing with his fingers.
A chuckle left his mouth.
"We quit, Hyunjin and I. We talked about it before but this was the last push we needed."
"Lix! Why did you quit? You kinda need a job." She couldn't help but laugh a little bit at what he said.
"And you should know better. Where you go. I go. I moved to Denmark with you remember?. We'll have to tell our next job that we're a package deal." He winked at her when she looked up at and stared at his eyes.
"Lix, what if we didn't search for a new job?" She questioned him, sitting back up and turning to face him a little bit more. His face read confusion.
"What do you mean, love?"
"What if, we finally called back those investors and opened our own place?" Her eyes held hope. Hoping he would say yes. They had talked about it before, but now it was serious. She ment it this time.
She tried to read his face but there were so many emotions to notice. God, she hoped he would say yes. She didn't really know what else to do. Finally when his mouth turned into a smile he responded.
"Let's do this." He grinned at her and she threw her arms tightly around his neck.
"You sure?" She needed to ask him, maybe he felt like he was pressured.
"I thought about it, and I think we can do this. It may even be the next step for us." He gleamed at the idea now. It would be their place instead of only hers, where he would work. Both of them would be owners.
"Let's look at our old Pinterest boards!" She exclaimed excitedly, dragging her laptop to her lap, laying back against Felix his chest. He pushed her back for a second to stand up. He missed her warmth immediately but if she was gonna drink wine, so was he. Grabbing himself a glass and taking the rest of the full bottle with him he sat back on the back and let her rest against him again.
This time she pulled a blanket across their laps and comfortably sat on the couch, just talking through their ideas.

Adapt. Evolve. Become.: The Genderqueer Fandom of NBC's Hannibal - SECOND EDITION!
In 2023 we released a fan-led volume of fanworks by and about trans non-binary, genderqueer and otherwise non-cis Fannibals.
We were thrilled to donate the profits from that fiscal year to The Okra Project, and we're already on track for a similar donation to this year's nominated charity - Gendered Intelligence.
You may have seen that Hugh Dancy was gifted a copy and had a very thoughtful conversation about the interpretation of Will Graham as a trans man.
Well, we're back by popular demand, to create a second edition and YOU can be involved!
NBC's Hannibal has resonated with many queer fans, and we know that being in the Hannibal, Hannigram and Hannibal Extended Universe fandom, and the support of Fannibals, has been part of many people's gender identity journeys. We want to capture that in a fandom led volume of non-fiction, featuring essays, creative nonfiction, personal accounts and art.

WHO should submit: Please ONLY SUBMIT IF:
you are aged 18 or over. For the sake of legalities, we are only accepting submissions from those legally considered adults in the region of publication - UK.
you are transgender, non-binary, genderqueer or otherwise non-cis.
OR you have a close relationship (sibling, partner etc) with someone who is transgender, non-binary, genderqueer or otherwise non-cis.
NB: The reason for the edition of cis creators is as a result of the feedback on the first edition regarding how much it spoke to people who had trans relatives or a trans partner and how it resonated with them and their (often) non-fandom partner/relative. We wanted to give them a chance to voice the impact of the show and fandom on their lives as people with close relationships with trans people.

Personal piece / statement / testimony (pref. under 3000 words)

Theme: Via one of the above mediums, we want you to share with us in as much or little detail as you’d like, your journey as a non-cis Fannibal in the Hannibal fandom, and/or the impact NBCs Hannibal has had on your gender journey.
A few points for consideration you may wish to explore:
Has the show and/or being part of the fandom helped you explore your gender, or made you feel more confident in expressing it - even if only online.
Has the fandom helped you with your transition and/or medical needs, such as donating for trans-clothing or surgeries?
Do you want to write an essay exploring the connection between NBCs Hannibal and non-cis fans? Or explore the trans-coding of Francis Dolarhyde?
Do you want to submit fic or art of Hannibal, Will or another character that expresses how you feel about your own gender identity?
PLEASE NOTE: if your submission is successful you are welcome to use your real name or an online handle for authorship, but you will have the option to publish anonymously or under a pseudonym if you would prefer.

In order to ensure we are not overwhelmed with more of one submission type over another, we are asking those who wish to be involved to complete our:

Your submission doesn't need to be complete at this stage and we urge you to complete as soon as possible if you are interested in order to allow any back and forth discussions that may take place.
Once you idea has been discussed with the editor you will be linked to a submission form in order to upload your submission and complete further information.
YOU CAN submit multiple ideas. We may publish up to two pieces from each person if they are different types, e.g. fanart AND an essay.

Editing: 1st February to 31st March 2025
Final edited copies for proof by 31st May 2025
Publication: July 2025
Please note that the submission form will only be available until 1st February, therefore if you wait to complete your proposal until 1st January, you will only have one month to complete your submission.
Compensation: As a fan-led project we do not have any funding and so cannot offer monetary compensation. All contributors will receive at the least an e-copy of the collection. If we are able to establish funding (potentially via Kickstarter) we may be able to send each contributor a print copy, but will not be able to confirm until further in the process and cannot guarantee this.
If funding is not available, we will be able to offer contributors reduced cost print copies by charging only cost price. However, given the quality of the art printing of the print copies, this will still be a significant cost.
Content Restrictions:
Contributors must be transgender, non-binary, genderqueer or otherwise non-cis, OR in a close relationship with someone who is transgender, non-binary, genderqueer or otherwise non-cis.
Contributions must relate to NBCs Hannibal and/or the fandom
The contribution must be original. Previously published works may be considered, such as existing fanfic and fanart.

It should go without saying, but we will not accept bigotry and hate speech: We may consider works that feature these things but do not glorify them. For example, we will consider works that discuss transphobia but not works that are transphobic.
FAQ
What is Trans Hannigram Day? Trans Hannigram Day or TransHanniDay is a day of celebration for trans* fanworks and creators in the Hannibal, Hannigram and Hannibal Extended Universe fandom. On this day, old and new fanworks are shared with the intention of filling the timeline with trans* love!
Originally this event was Transcendence Fest, first held in December 2020. The first TransHanniDay was held on 8th April in 2022 in reaction to the release of a certain movie on that day.
I completed the Expression of Interest form, do I need to complete the sign up form? No! If you completed the expression of interest form you should have received an email from Max. If you haven't then please reach out here or on twitter.
Will this collection only be focused on Hannigram? Technically the focus is on the fans, but we know the influence of NBCs Hannibal and the fandom itself goes beyond Hannigram. Both in written works and in art, other characters are accepted including those from NBCs Hannibal and those from other Mads and Hugh projects (Hannibal Extended Universe).
For example, if Bedelia De Maurier or Adam Raki resonated with you as part of your gender journey, we’d love to hear about it.
How can I prove I’m Trans*? We aren't expecting you to and in no way expect you to out yourself either online or in real life. We will take on trust that you are who and what you say you are, including if you are questioning, between labels or do not like to use labels.
As noted above, those who would feel more comfortable doing so, can have their work published under a pseudonym or anonymously.
Who is publishing this collection? This collection will be edited and published by Max Turner. Max is a gay transgender writer based in the UK, a Fannibal and the publisher of small indie press A Coup of Owls Press. This publication will not be associated with A Coup of Owls Press directly.

I translated this drama cd which is called Natsume Zakkichou: Disappeared food stall into English some months back. It's long so putting it under the spoiler. Note: My english isn't perfect, so there might be mistakes.
Ever since I was little, I could see weird things. Those things that other people couldn’t see were most likely yokai.
Nyanko: So you finally came back, Natsume.
Natsume: Nyanko-sensei, did you come to pick me up?
Nyanko-sensei is a self-proclaimed bodyguard. Normally, he is a powerful yokai though…
Nyanko: Buy me a strawberry daifuku!
While calling himself a bodyguard, he has adapted with a maneki cat and lives mainly with me as my home cat.
Nyanko: Today I am in the mood for strawberries, strawberries!
Natsume: What kind of mood is that…
Nyanko: “What kind of mood” you ask, 1 (ichi), 2, 3, 4, 5 (go), ichigo!*
*a pun about numbers in Japanese

Natsume: Ah, what! A paper doll?

Natori: You eat it with a fresh onsen tamago and mix it with the dashi.*
*I was a bit unsure about this part, but he talks about the way how to eat the dish.
Nyanko: Onsen tamago! I’ll choose that! You two, choose quickly.
Natori: Natsume, what will you choose?
Natsume: Ah, um ... .what should I choose..It’s hard to choose..
Nyanko: Choose already.
Natsume: Let’s see..um, uh…
Nyanko: CHOOSE ALREADY!!
Natsume: Ah, this one with nebaneba toppings looks good.
Natori: Ah, that one has wakame leaves, okra and grated yam on top of it…
Nyanko: Three ebiten udon! Hm, it’s because you two are slow.
Stall vendor: Uh, if it’s wrong, it can be changed.
Natsume: Ah, then with the nebaneba toppings.
Stall vendor: Alright. What about you?
Natori: I’m fine with no change in the order.
Stall vendor: Alright.
Nyanko: It looks so good~
Natsume: Don’t peek that much. If you fall over, you will become tempura too.
Natori: That doesn’t seem that delicious..
Nyanko: What did you say? My tail is seen as one of the tastiest goods!
Natsume: I won’t be fooled.
Natori: You are getting along so well as always~
Natsume: Ah, by the way, why were you recommending a stall from here?
Natori: Ah, back in the day, I was often around this area because of the film shooting. The wind here is strong, so I was cold while waiting. I often came here and warmed myself up.

Natori: Despite this, I do my work properly though.
Stall vendor: Here’s the one with the nebaneba toppings.
Natsume: Ah, it looks good!
Nyanko: Hm? Mine is not ready yet?
Natsume: Don’t be hasty and just wait properly.
Natori: It’s good to eat it while it’s hot and before it gets flat, so go ahead.
Natsume: Ah, but….
Nyanko: I can’t wait! Give me a taste!
Natsume: Ah, sensei!
Nyanko: Hmm! It’s good! This taste is too good for something made by a human. What if it’s made by a yokai?
Natsume: Hey, sensei! There’s no way it’s like that. Itadakimasu! It’s good!
Nyanko: Hm? What is it?
Natori: Are you alright?
Nyanko: I will look up. Hm? This is a jellyfish bone..?
Natori: What did you say!? A jellyfish bone? There’s no way that’s-
Nyanko: Alright, I’ll pull it out~!
Natsume: Ah, you’re right..but do jellyfish have bones..?
Natori: Natsume…jellyfish bones are probably something that only we can see. So that means..
Madara: This udon stall has a yokai that pretends to be a human.
Natsume: That’s…! Why are you saying that..! Sensei, go back!
Stall vendor: That appearance..! It’s…Madara!
Madara: See? He can see this form. There’s no doubt. Natori brat, did you know about this?
Natori: If I did, I wouldn’t have called you here! I'm even surprised..that he is a yokai..! This is very…unfortunate.
Natori: Natsume, I'm sorry when you came all the way here. Please drink this purifying water and lay down. If there’s something else within you, it can purify you.
Natsume: Natori-san..!
Natori: Don’t worry, I will exorcize him now.
Natsume: Exorcize him….that’s!!
Stall vendor: P-please wait! I’m!
Natsume: Hey, Natori-san! Please wait! I’m fine! Exorcizing him for no reason, it’s too arbitrary!
Natori: Arbitrary? But he harmed you.
Natsume: “Harmed me”...He didn’t do anything to me!
Natori: Even something like a small jellyfish bone, can be life-threatening if left alone!
Natsume: It’s not inside me anymore, I drank the purifying water too! It’s alright..!
Natori: No. Even if you were fine, would you be sure that everyone who ate this after you would be fine too? No, there might be even people who already ate it..I can’t leave it like this!
Natsume: But..!
Natori: The old man was very proud of this store. If he couldn’t reproduce the taste perfectly, he would’ve closed this business with grace. I can’t be quiet and let a yokai ruin this store.
Natsume: Natori-san..!
Natori: Natsume, if it was fine with you, could you help me out? Please let this yokai go without suffering. Use this paper. It’s for sealing the yokai.
Natsume: That's ... .but…but…
Natsume: He is trying to do something! Natori-san, I can’t seal something without a reason after all! I can’t seal it with paper like this…!
Natori: Natsume?
Natsume: Are you alright?
Natori: Natsume…you really are something..
Nyanko: Geez..his favoring of yokai is really troublesome.
Natsume: Why is a yokai like you having an udon stall?
Stall vendor: …I couldn’t forget it. About the old man…About the udon he made.. Yes…that was also a day with a cold wind like today..
Natsume: ..That form…! There’s scales..!
Stall vendor: I’m Sawaragi. I’m a low-class yokai who sleeps in this river and calling fish. I don’t have any more power or companions though.
Natsume: Sawaragi..
Sawaragi: There was some construction work around here and the sun couldn’t shine to the river anymore. No matter how much I called them, the fish didn’t come out. My friends moved elsewhere, and right when I was about to move elsewhere too, that old man appeared. He pulled this old house that emitted dense white steam, there was a good smell and I noticed he was giving food. As I was watching him, I really wanted to eat that food too, so I disguised myself as a human and went to eat it with the money I found from the riverbed. But as I sat here, I had no idea what to do. Then the old man gave me udon without saying anything. Without a word, secretly… I must have looked like I was very hungry. As I finished eating and left the money, the old man laughed and told me to come again. I only noticed it later, but at that time, I had nowhere near enough money. Yet, he still laughed so happily…
Natsume: Now that I think of it, when I and sensei are eating, Touko-san is always laughing happily too..
Sawaragi: That was the first time I had ever eaten something that delicious. Since then, I found money from the riverbed, saved it and quietly ate here.
Nyanko: The humans do have good food after all.
Sawaragi: But after some time, the old man stopped coming here for some reason. At first he was here every day, then there was a one day absence, then three days’…and then, he left this stall here and disappeared. Suddenly no one came here anymore and the stall started slowly decaying. I was thinking about what to do, and then I remembered. That one day I was imitating the old man with a draining casket and string I found from the riverbed and he told me “You aren’t good~” while laughing…That’s why I thought that if I opened a stall like this, that he would come again and say the same thing again…
Natsume: Did you learn how to make udon?
Sawaragi: Yes. But no matter how much I tried my best in making the dashi, I couldn’t make it the same.
Nyanko: So that’s why you used something like a jellyfish bone in the dashi.
Sawaragi: I thought the taste was similar ... .even when I knew that it’d be a bad thing to do something like this..but I couldn’t forget that kind taste…
Natori: I’m sorry, but the old man is already..no matter how much you wait…
Sawaragi: When I knew how many people remembered the old man, I felt relieved. To be honest, disguising myself as a human is very tiring..I thought I should be resting soon too…If you are here, I feel like I can leave this place with no worry.
Natsume: The stall…it’s disappearing with the wind…!
Sawaragi: Thank you, Natsume. I have heard about it. That there is a human who is kind towards yokai..Isn’t it you?
Natsume: Sawaragi..
Sawaragi: I wonder if I was able to prepare the same taste as the old man..?
Natsume: He disappeared..
Nyanko: That guy, he was working too hard while disguising as a human. He had no friends anymore either, so he must have felt very beaten up.
Natsume: Hey, sensei.
Nyanko: Hm?
Natsume: If we didn’t notice that he was a yokai, would Sawaragi have been here and learned to make the same taste as the old man did..?
Nyanko: I wonder~
Natori: Natsume, I’m sorry for doing weird things like that.
Natsume: It’s fine.
Natori: I did hear that the old man had passed away, but I had absolutely no idea that a yokai was working here. I really only wanted to eat the udon here with you.
Natsume: I know that.
Natori: But that was good. If it was me, I would have probably only exorcized him and nothing else. You really are kind.
Natsume: That’s…
Natori: The udon that the old man prepared was really delicious.. I really wanted to have you eat it.
Natsume: It was delicious…the udon I ate just now too.
Natori: Is that so?
Natsume: It was the best.
Natori: I see. Oh, it’s this time already! I’m sorry Natsume, I actually have a film shooting after this.
Natsume: It’s fine.
Natori: I will find another good store. This time, let’s eat together.

Looking for a Shabbat dinner centerpiece or a hearty midweek meal? Picture cubes of eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, tomatoes and potatoes cooked together to create that special harmony only veggies that grew together in the sun achieve. You’re thinking of ratatouille, right? But what I have in mind is a heartier dish from Romania and Bulgaria called ghiveci or guvech.
Romanian ghiveci and Bulgarian guvech are indeed very similar to the famous ratatouille, but being peasant’s food, they’re more rustic and substantial. The veggies for guvech are cut into large, uneven chunks, and can be cooked all together at once, while for ratatouille, each component is fried separately before they are combined. This makes guvech preparation much easier, and allows for creative improvisations; you can easily add any vegetables in season. Besides the mandatory eggplant, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes, green beans or okra are common. Guvech is seasoned very simply with salt, black pepper and occasionally paprika, to let the produce shine. The Bulgarian version is cooked with fatty meat, while most Romanian versions are vegan.
“In Bulgaria, guvech used to be cooked in a clay pot called gyuveche,” Etti Ben Yosef, a Bulgarian Jew who lives in Israel, told me. “The stew was cooked in the oven for many hours at low temperature.”
But these days, when Ben Yosef makes guvech for Shabbat dinner, she uses a pressure cooker to precook the beef short ribs before adding them to the vegetables. Then, she cooks the entire stew on the stove for a long time, putting it in the oven for the final hour to give it a nice crust. She feels lucky to share the recipe with her adult children. “I keep the tradition so the kids will remember,” she said.
Guvech’s origins can be traced to the Ottoman Empire that ruled the Balkan region for hundreds of years. The original Turkish dish, called güveç, is cooked in a wide, clay dish by the same name. It’s very similar to the Bulgarian guvech and includes chicken, lamb or beef. There are many other variations of the dish throughout the Balkans. Bosnian Đuveč or djuvec is the name of a clay pot as well as a veggie casserole that’s cooked with rice; Greek giouvetsi is also cooked with rice. In Romania, the eggplant-tomato version is considered summer ghiveci, while winter ghiveci is prepared with carrots, cabbage, cauliflower and mushrooms.
Bulgarian Sephardi Jews and Romanian Ashkenazi Jews brought guvech to Israel (where it’s pronounced “ghe-vech”) and made the dish widely popular. No wonder, given that eggplant and tomatoes are so beloved in Israel and are of such high quality. Early Israeli versions can be found in Molly Bar David’s “Folkloric Cookbook” from 1964. The first version includes 14 different vegetables (including celery root and cauliflower) and meat. The second version is for Romanian ghiveci that’s baked with a whole fish on top.
The vegetarian Romanian version is probably most common in Israel nowadays. And although it is traditionally served over rice, I like to serve it on another Romanian staple, mamaliga. It’s the definition of comfort food.
This recipe is the Bulgarian version of guvech that includes meat. You can make the recipe vegetarian by simply omitting the meat. The rest of the ingredients and instructions stay the same.
Notes:
It is recommended, and easy, to add any seasonal vegetables to the basic guvech. Consider adding: 1 lb butternut squash or sweet potato, cut into ½-inch dice; ½ lb whole okra, stems removed; or ½ lb green beans, cut into 1-inch pieces.
You can cook the meat, if using, up to two days in advance. Store the cooked meat in the fridge with the cooking liquid. Before using, remove from the fridge and discard the fat on the top of the pot (the fat will be solid and white in color).
Guvech keeps in the fridge for up to four days.

I tried the TJ Farms Cut Okra Frozen Vegetables and these were pretty good.
I ate this in a small amount of ground beef vegetable fiber gourmet spaghetti noodle soup and it was pretty good in the soup. The okra was soft while fresh tasting for frozen vegetables and went well in the ground beef fiber noodle vegetable soup. This soup was crockpot cooked. Sometimes you do get some of the tough part of the okra you can't eat and you need to spit out.
I would eat this again.

hello i would love to hear about culturally specific dishes in the blightseed setting. what do the animals taste like hows their fat content... herbs and seasonings and the trades involved perhaps..... hows the salt economy? love your setting and if you have a list of ingredients i will invent meals in my head and be well satisfied... i just love food and cooking in world building it is so important to me :-)
OK this is crazy because I had literally just cooked a Lore Friendly Meal the night before I got this ask.
Since this is a super broad question gonna default to Imperial Wardin since that's what I'm writing in right now and has the most developed food economy. (Sorry.)
This region currently dominates the eastern Inner Seas tradeway so has a very broad access to imported foods and spices, and many of its staples are not originally native to the region. Its regional cuisine is quite diverse and varied, largely owing to its status in the tradeway and a long history of immigration to the region (as well as a wide variety of native regional variations in diet).
For simplicity's sake I'm mostly going to stick to staples that are grown in-region (whether native or not) or commonly imported. Also mostly sticking to domesticated plant life, or very common and easily acquired wild plants. (Also not all these plants/herbs/spices would be 1:1 with real-world equivalents, or would be of unique variants that don't exist irl, but if they're basically the same thing I use the IRL word)
Staple base foods: maize, barley, wheat, and rice (closer to O. glaberrima than O. sativa), red yam (a yam regarded as very delicious), white yam (a hardier but poorer tasting yam, often associated with poverty), cassava, chickpeas, other legumes.
Staple vegetables (regionally varies): Cabbage, lettuce, okra, onions, garlic, chili peppers, celery, peas, kolis (a drought tolerant, cactus-like plant. Young stems are tender and edible), camiche (a tree that produces edible seedpods and young leaves).
Staple fruits: Dates, figs, pomegranates, olives, melons, apples, bitter cherries, kolis fruit, nara (a type of citrus, comparable in flavor and sourness to lime).
Widely used spices/herbs/flavorings: cumin, saffron (VERY expensive but natively grown), coriander, culantro, thyme, fennel, sage, tumeric, cardamom, ginger, firebug (an insect that is dried and crushed, provides a reddish hue and slight acidic flavor), anuje (a tree sap which is the region's most popular sweetener).
Livestock: cattle, horses (the small 3 hooved kind), hogs, ducks, geese, one domesticated species of gazelle, some camelops (rare in this region, imported), one type of small domesticated lacetor, several types of fowl.
Other meat (common wild game, or livestock raised in smaller or more localized capacities): crocodiles, gazelles, aurochs, salutachin (a meat dog breed), doves, nechoi, lacetor, hippegalga, anara (a large semi-aquatic rodent), hespiornis, unkata (a large flightless bird), ibis, pheasants, rabbits and hares, caviar ants.
(Of the fantasy game, most nechoi have a strong, lean gamey meat, but an-nechoi is fattier and milder. Lacetor is generally mild and tough (with a few very fatty cuts) and benefits from slow cooking and heavy spices. Hippegalga is lean and mildly gamey and has a nutty quality. Anara tastes like wild rabbit, but slightly fattier. Unkata kind of just tastes like turkey.)
Alcohol: Wine is very important and is consumed (mostly watered down) on a daily basis. Date wine is most common and least expensive by far; only small parts of the region are ideal for viniculture and grape wine is somewhat uncommon. Other fruit wines are common (bitter cherry and kolis fruit being most popular). A very strong liquor is produced from anuje sap, with sweeter and lower ABV versions available as a kind of dessert wine. Grain-based beers and liquors are widely available, but not as prized as fruit/anuje drinks. Mead is somewhat rare and is mostly seen as inferior to anuje.
Salt economy: this region is a dominant player in the salt trade, having a large area of salt flats and marshes in its south. Salt is widely accessible throughout the region via internal trade routes.
Fishing: The region has a huge fishing industry along its coasts and the diet in the coastal cities is enriched with seafood. Pretty much any edible sea life is eaten. (Dozens of fish species, octopus, squid, clams, urchins, oysters, scallops, crabs, lobster, shrimp, etc etc). The tiny, schooling larval form of yotici are also sometimes eaten.
There's also a 'whaling' industry for leviathans, which have very rich, blubbery meat high in iron (I guess I'd describe it as a fattier, stronger, bloodier version of alligator meat), and uhrwal, which have very tough, gamey meat and are considered an acquired taste, used specifically for delicacy dishes.
Misc lore:
Arthropods are not widely eaten in the region and have stigma as peasant or famine food. Some local exceptions are made for locusts, and the eggs of caviar ants (there is a very small industry of ant farming in Ephennos, brought by White Sea qilik immigrants).
Dogs have been used for meat in this region for hundreds of years (largely in the form of the salutachin, a breed specifically developed for meat), but the practice declined under the 3rd Burri empire (in which context it was seen as an 'unclean' food). Cultural trauma from feral dogs eating the dead (and in turn being eaten by starving civilians) during a siege-induced famine has made it specifically taboo in Godsmouth. Dog is now widely considered a famine/poverty food in most of the region, though corn-fed salutachin is still a delicacy in the city-state of Wardin.
Animals that eat human flesh are taboo to consume in most parts of the region (whether this extends to all/most predators or just obligate scavengers varies).
Eggs of skimmer gulls and ibis are considered delicacies.
The basic diet varies across the region, but a huge proportion of the established cuisine revolves around cumin, onions, and peppers for flavoring.
The majority of the diet for an average person is built on savory grain porridge and mashed legumes.
Dairy products are important to the everyday diet in the eastern 'dairy belt' of the region, but are of lesser significance elsewhere. Horsemilk and cow's milk are both common.
Maize is usually consumed after nixtamalization for greater nutritional content.
Most people (especially in the cities) do not eat meat on a regular basis, as even for self-sustaining farmers and herders, the value of livestock for milk, textiles, labor, sacrifice, and trade means that frequent slaughter is often unsustainable. Most get their everyday protein needs met with legumes, and those in coastal cities have broad access to seafood.
Animal sacrifice is vitally important to the practice of the Imperial Wardi faith, but the meat of sacrifices is not eaten (outside of a few specific rites and festivals) and is instead burned.
Khaitmeat is rarely eaten outside of desperation (or opportunistic slaughter of old/injured animals) due to their great value and a developed taboo around its consumption in some parts of the region.
Hunting is a pastime for the urban upper class and typically forbidden within the territories of the city-states without an expensive 'license' (unless one one's own lands, which also generally requires having big money). Poaching for meat in the outskirts of cities is common among the urban poor.
Hunting is a key part of the diet throughout the rural parts of the region, many rural commoners eat meat more frequently than their urban counterparts on this merit.
Some established dishes (either vaguely conceptualized, or have come up specifically in writing):
Pounded white yam and nothing else (a famine food).
Pounded white yam with whitefish and pepper soup, a hearty common meal in Godsmouth.
Savory cornmeal cakes (cornmeal cooked in vegetable broth, lard or olive oil, peppers, onions, cumin, salt, cheese, wrapped in a corn husk and cooled to be eaten on the go).
Shitty cornmeal cakes (a famine food) (cornmeal with weevils in it, you can't really get the weevils out and it's protein so might as well, salted and cooked in water).
Grain festival beef/horse stew (tough bone-in cuts slowcooked with peppers, onion, garlic, and any other available vegetables. Usually heavily spiced. The resulting broth is used to cook the grain (usually hominy, rice, or barley), the meat and vegetables are served on top, sometimes with cream or cheese).
Hominy porridge with milk and sprinkled cheese.
Wheat porridge with dried dates and anuje.
Reed duck boiled in date wine, flavored with peppers, coriander, cumin, and saffron (VERY fancy).
Pickled kolis stem bulbs.
Fermented kolis stem bulbs and cabbage.
Gannegal soup (made with bull penis, hominy, garlic, onion, cabbage, and chickpeas in a spicy broth, supposed to support fertility)
Raw hippegalga meat, thinly sliced with onion and hot pepper, all marinated and cured with nara and eaten cold atop barley or rice (also supposed to support fertility)
Anaebi soup (made with reed duck, lily bulbs, rice, and okra, supposed to support a healthy pregnancy)
Cow tripe and cabbage soup
Finely chopped meat/fish/shellfish or vegetables with onions, wrapped in dough and fried or baked.
Peledyo (A strong, heavily fermented fish sauce favored in the coastal cities (this is pretty much a garum ripoff), which is mixed with wine, vinegar, honey, etc to form the base of other sauces)
Very spicy shellfish soup with a peledyo, wine, and pepper broth.
Caviar ant eggs marinated with nara, vinegar, chopped onions and cabbage, mixed with rice.
A sweetened bean porridge made with cream and anuje.
Hummus-esque spread made with chickpeas, garlic, onion, peppers, and olive oil, usually eaten with bread.
Whole spitroasted horse
A type of root vegetable sausage (intestine casing stuffed with mashed cassava or yam, onions, garlic & cumin seeds which have been cooked down in lard, sometimes with minced meat/offal. Boiled all together.)
Blood sausage (usually horse or cattle)
A kind of donut fried in oil and then soaked in anuje and fruit syrup.
Roasted peppers and onions sauteed in heavy cream, usually served atop grain or a grain porridge.
Toasted locusts, locusts fried with rice or barley, pounded white yam stuffed with fried locust and onions (opportunistic meals during locust plagues)
Fried sprats with pepper and onion sauce
Crab stock soup with onions, peppers, crab meat or whole softshell crabs, and crab roe (sometimes with cream)
Squid ink soups (variety of seafood or seafood-stock soups, blackened by squid ink)
A simple 'trail mix' made with dried camiche seeds and hominy
Dessert bread glazed with fruit syrup or anuje, covered in dried dates
Raw minced lacetor with peledyo, garlic powder, cardamom, coriander. Used to top grains or to be eaten with pounded yam.
Thinly sliced uhrwal flank simmered with date wine and vinegar.
Fatty cuts of an-nechoi belly, usually slow cooked and eaten in soups.
Minced kolis stalk, onion, and pepper, salted and marinated with nara or vinegar
Roasted figs with cheese
Also here's the lore friendly meal I cooked, the grain festival beef stew. Here served in only the lore friendliest of dollar store paper bowls
This specific dish is eaten as a part of yearly grain festivals celebrating the end of the harvest. In most contexts it's an agricultural community event with each family contributing whatever vegetables and spices are on hand, and each donating some of their harvested grain. It's cooked in a huge pot and usually serves dozens of people.
The exact vegetable/herb/spice components would vary wildly within the region, timing, and by the success of the various harvests, but will generally be farmed (rather than foraged) due to the nature of the festival as an agricultural celebration and thanks-giving. Cumin, peppers, and onions are considered the absolute bare minimum necessity. The grain will usually be maize, barley or rice, and may be mashed into a savory porridge instead of eaten whole.
This will usually be one of few times a year where meat is eaten in abundance in the agricultural context. The meat is almost always beef or horse, usually tougher bone-in cuts are chosen for this specific dish. These animals will have been slaughtered specifically for this festival, with the best cut of meat from each being burnt in an offering of gratitude to Ganmache and Anaemache (ox-face and river-face of God, both of which are associated with agriculture and harvests), at the base of what will become the cooking fire.
The meat and vegetables are cooked on low heat in water until the meat is soft and tender and a broth is formed (which should be very strong and spicy, as it will be used to flavor the grain). Some of the broth is drained and used to cook the grain, which is then served with the meat, vegetables, and a few spoonfuls of broth on top. In the eastern dairy belt, milk/cream may be added to the broth, and/or it may be topped with crumbled cheese or sour cream. This is next to heresy in the west.

For my easily accessible grocery store equivalent, I used a beef shank, 2 onions, 2 jalepeños, one habanero, a bunch of garlic, okra, and cabbage. Seasoned with cumin seeds and tumeric (very lore friendly) and a sazon packet because I had it (most of the spices involved are at least passably lore friendly). Also jasmine rice (not lore friendly but it's what I had).
I first toasted cumin seeds in olive oil, then added the vegetables and stirred until they were cooked down. The meat and vegetables/spices were cooked in water on low heat for ~5 hours and seasoned to taste. Some of the broth was then removed to cook the rice. Meat + vegetables are spooned on top of the rice, along with some broth.
Results: It's preddy good. Might be a little better with roasted or sauteed rather than heavily cooked down vegetables, but the latter is how it would be eaten. I also had a sore throat at the time and ended up just drinking the rest of the broth. It felt amazing. 6.5/10.

SO!!!!!!
my husband and i r buying a house soon and putting it on my ancestral land. the land my ancestors were slaves on and then inherited to sharecrop. my grandma, nearly 100 years old, still lives there. our home will be across the street. i lived there most of my life. i picked tomatoes, corn, beans, okra, grapes. i lived off the land. chicken eggs and fresh pork meat from the slaughter. recently, aunts and uncles have moved on said property in their own homes....
