Black Friday moving from single day to multi-week mark-downs
At 8 a.m. Friday, the doors of Best Buy in Dartmouth opened and shoppers poured in.
“I came here at 5:30 a.m.,” said one shopper.
Across the street at Walmart, Kelly MacKay and Shelley Bonang arrived before sun up. It's their yearly “shop-until-you-drop” Black Friday strategy.
“We get up early and hit the sales in the stores,” said Bonang, who shopped on a day that saw parking lots jammed but malls and stores not necessarily crammed. “I was talking to an associate at Walmart and she said they spread their Black Friday shopping over three weeks."
Black Friday appears to be moving from a single day into a multi-week mark-down season.
"We have shifted dramatically to be able to respond to custom needs and orders, and wherever customers choose to shop," said Best Buy supervisor Dean Mason.
Payment processing company Moneris predicted a 9.5 per cent national spending increase this holiday season, compared to 2021.
"As we continue to recover from the pandemic, I think we are seeing an increase in consumer confidence and that will contribute to the spending," said Moneris spokesperson David Litwin.
The reality of inflation has shoppers like Kelly MacKay strategically shopping more for need than just for simple gifting.
According to Litwin, rising prices could actually spark even more shopping.
“With inflationary pressure as well, I can only imagine that will contribute to people’s incentive to go out and shop and take advantage of these deals they are seeing," said Litwin.

Merry Christmas @clockworkgraystairs!! Have a Manorian coffee shop au as your cliche little Christmas gift 😂 Thank you for all the scheming (as well as screaming. coughs in the infernal devices) and help with other fics. ily!
Dorian was 28 years old and had long since given up on finding love in a coffee shop.  A coffee shop.  He was the youngest politician in the country, for fuck’s sake.
When the magic ink showed up on his wrist at midnight on his 18th birthday, he'd guffawed at Chaol who'd waited up with him, ever the believer in this soulmate crap.  In miniscule white, bubbly letters, the words "Hi.  Welcome to Starbucks, may I take your order?"  Great.  That was really just his luck.  Just 2 weeks before, Chaol's wrist had been emblazoned with "Not tonight, buddy.  I'm just a girl in a bar tonight."  She sounded like a fun girl.
Suffice it to say, considering that he was born and raised in New York then moved to Seattle, he'd seen more than his fair share of the chain's stores.  For the first couple of years, he'd replied to every hot barista's greeting with "Is it you?" and secretly prayed that none of the more homely ones would perk up after hearing his order.  By the time he'd graduated university, he'd given up.
When he walked into the establishment at 4th and Pine, he glanced down at his wrist and rolled his eyes, joining the queue.
-
At midnight on her 18th birthday, Manon Blackbeak sat in a circle with her half sisters, Asterin and Vesta, and her little sister Sorrel.  When "I'm sorry, no, I just got called into a city meeting," appeared on her wrist in sloppy, harsh lettering, Asterin and Vesta let out excited squeals, while Sorrel just rolled her eyes.
The three of them had decided ages ago that they were all going to be surgeons like Asterin and Vesta's mom.  "So, that settles that, then.  Political science is a definite."
“You were supposed to come to the dark side," Asterin growled, climbing into her little sister's lap and nearly knocking her over.  She was already in her first year of Med School and Manon's hero.  Somehow, she was managing to take care of Asterin, who was still in high school, and their ailing mother, all while managing to progress in her classes at UW.  Manon remembered the long, teary phone call with her the week before her graduation from Dartmouth, telling her about her mother's diagnosis, and how she'd have to forgo Northwestern and settle for UW, citing that at least she'd be nearer to her.  It had taken its toll on her, but by then, almost a full year from that phone call, you could hardly tell.
Even though she seemed genuinely happy for Manon's definitive first-words, it still stung that her tattoo had merely said "Excuse me."
While she herself was a sophomore in College already by then, having skipped grades when she was younger, Manon wasn't sure that surgery was where she was headed, despite being pre-med.  That merely sealed the deal.
She'd only gotten this job to kill time and save up a few dollars while waiting for her internship at the hospital to start.  She just knew that she wasn't going to meet the love of her life in a coffee shop.  How cliche and boring would that be?  Still, it was cute the amount of young adults who came in, eyeing her suspiciously and asking some variation on "Are you her?" after her company-standard greeting with a wanton desperation, only to deflate when she shook her head sadly.  That just wouldn't be it for her.
She knew that it was frustrating.  She saw it in the way Asterin had flinched every time a stranger moved around her on the street or tried to get her attention in a bar up until the night before she started her internship.  The fact that he turned out to be a surgeon and her boss proved only to be a minor stumbling block the next morning.
That was all going to come to a close for Manon soon.  She could feel it.  She was going to be a kickass politician and find her equally kickass politician spouse.  The fact that this was her last shift just made it all that much better.
Despite all that, she couldn't help but notice the ridiculously sexy, brooding man that just walked in and secretly mourned that her tattoo didn't read something like "Doppio Espresso and a coffee cake, please."  After a moment, she let it go.
The line progressed efficiently and there he was in front of her and, god, he was even more beautiful up close, she thought, but found herself interrupted by the sharp chirp of an old school pager.  Pager, she thought cheerfully. Politicians use those!  Returning to reality, she found herself absently chorusing the typical greeting, "Hi. Welcome to Starbucks, may I take your order."
The words didn't seem to rouse the man from the device.  "I'm sorry, no, I just got called into a city meeting," he answered and turned and walked out just like that.
Manon's heart hammered away in her chest as the next guest babbled their long, frothy order at her, but it was irrelevant.  She hadn't heard a word they'd said.  Turning away, she waved over a coworker and pointed at the register, before she retreated into the back of the store.  Holy shit.  She'd met her soulmate in a coffee shop.  And as quickly as he'd come, he was gone.
-
That night, Manon cried in her sister's arms, describing him over and over to Asterin in perfect detail thanks to her photographic memory, and swearing she hadn't made him up.  "His first words defined who I'd become.  What if this was it?  What if I'm destined to be alone because I let him walk out?" she hiccuped.  "What if he's my soulmate but I'm not his?  Can that happen?"
"No, Manon," Asterin cooed.  "That doesn’t happen.”
It was only after the 5th time that it clicked in her head.  "What time did you say it was?"
Sniffling pathetically, she answered "8:11".
"And, you said he was tall, with salt and pepper hair?" she asked, straightening herself out in front of her and putting her hands out on her shoulders.
She nodded a little.
"Do you love me?" Asterin asked her sister, question met with an indignant grunt.  "Come in early for your shift tomorrow.  There's someone I want you to meet.  Get some sleep, hon."  With little more argument, Manon headed up the stairs and into bed.  As soon as she was certain she was out of earshot, Mer reached into her pocket and called her own soulmate, remembering how she'd bonded with someone over having a generic tattoo, but how she'd assured him that his soulmate probably had something great because he would be so sick of listening for it.  "Chaol, are you busy?"
-
Morning light changes people.  When she woke up, Manon felt incredibly stupid.  Obviously, that couldn't have been him.  She had a lifetime full of customers in front of her.  The chance of meeting a politician and her soulmate in a Starbucks?  Slim.  Infinitesimal, even.  That didn't change the fact that Asterin's persistence in getting her in early this morning was thoroughly irritating.
"Just trust me," had been the incessant refrain.  "You won't regret it."  She couldn't help but take her sister's urgence as a slight mockery of her reaction the night before.
Rolling her eyes, Manon sighed impatiently, "I'm fine."  She grabbed her coat off the hook and headed for the door.  "Really, this isn't necessary."
She merely smiled, practically pushing her to the car.
-
"This is stupid," Dorian moaned from where Chaol had him lodged in the hallway.  "Why do I have to be here to meet your stupid girlfriend's stupid little sister?
His best friend smiled his normal 'because-I-know-what's-best-for-you-dipshit' smile, and answered "To humor me?  Besides," he urged, "You never know.  She might be fun to hang around."
He turned away from his best friend coldly, rolling his eyes and burying his shoulder in the wall, having decided that he wasn't just going to stare at the elevator like a chump.
-
Leaning against the handrail, Manon groaned "This is stupid."  She couldn't believe she'd had her sleep cut back an hour before work. “You know I'm going to be here later than anyone else.  Why did you have to make it even longer?"  She missed her bed already and they weren’t even out of the car.
"Because you trust me.  And I'm your evil big sister."  Who you're going to thank endlessly in 5... 4... 3... 2...
-
The elevator dinged and the two girls left the car and Asterin dragged Manon straight for the men leaning against the wall with an absurd amount of pep.  She couldn't even bring herself to mind that her little sister seemed more interested in her shoelaces.
"Hey, beautiful," he started, planting a chaste kiss to his girlfriend's cheek.  "Manon," Chaol greeted, swatting at Dorian to get his attention.
Asterin smiled, bumping her hip against her sister.  "Manon, this is Dorian.  He's the senator here."  From his posture, Asterin wondered if he'd fallen asleep.
She looked up with her standard friendly smile and stopped cold, jaw suddenly lax.  She recognized him instantly. The guy from yesterday. Glancing between her sister and Chaol, not sure what to do.  Chaol tapped his wrist and pointed at Dorian.  Asterin nodded and whispered "Say it."
Her tongue grew thick in her mouth.  She shrugged at Chaol.  She knew what she'd said to him, obviously, but all she was sure of was that what he said was on her wrist.  She decided to give it a shot.  She tapped Dorian on the shoulder and repeated the company line one final time:  "Hi.  Welcome to Starbucks, may I take your order?"
The older man whipped around and stared at the girl, ready to lay into her, until he realized that she was holding her wrist out to him.  He read the words in his handwriting over and over again, trying to place why they sounded so familiar until it clicked.  Starbucks yesterday.  When he'd ran out, that's what he said to the barista.  He hadn't even thought to look up before he took off.  Now, he wished more than anything he had.
After the brief silence grew to an uncomfortable length, she repositioned her hand from showing the white ink on her wrist to offering it to Dorian.  "Manon Blackbeak."
"Dorian," he fumbled, reaching out to shake it.  He stared at her for a long time, like he couldn't believe after all this time that she was real.
She smiled, pulling his hand closer and looking down at the etching inside his wrist.  Her handwriting.  Those words.  "I thought I'd never see you again after you ran out of there."
"Guess it was meant to be," he answered.  In that moment, some 10 years after his ink showed up, Dorian really, firmly believed in soulmates.

To couples who risk love in the New Year
Tumblr media
As we near the end of the holiday season and another year fades into a sea of memories, gratitude, regrets, and dismay, it's understandable to reflect on our relationships. To ponder what has worked and what has not. To look back at previous years and experience a pang of nostalgia or longing.
For more couples than not, the holiday season is tricky. Fraught with a constellation of challenges, our relationships get pushed to a precipice when we navigate a surplus of time with in-laws and family. It turns out that excess brings with it unique challenges, and that lavish spending, overeating, and the occasional extra eggnog can create a perfect storm for relationship stress and marital demise.
It's a setup. Societally, we bring a high level of expectation to the holidays, infused with sentimentality and wistfulness. Such pangs get further amplified when we receive perfectly customized greeting cards (showcasing family vacations to Aruba, college graduations from Dartmouth, and photoshopped dewy face smiles of family and friends).
Furthermore, many of us struggle to acknowledge when we hurt (or hurt others) and concurrently have an aversion to the vulnerability that goes with expressing it. Instead, we suppress our complaints until they reach a tipping point, leaking out of the crevices of our cracked smiles for all to see. The painfully well-timed joke, an uncensored reveal informed by an excess of wine. We throw our partner under the bus (or they throw us) while our children leave the room, and our in-laws stare awkwardly at their laps, refolding napkins.
Leading up to such scenarios, we are vulnerable to what social scientist and bestselling author Brene Brown calls comparative suffering — internally viewing our pain (and others) through a comparative lens. We weigh and measure our woes to determine if they are worthy of a complaint and frequently make unconscious choices to bypass our hurt and anger. Concluding that such first-world suffering is best left ignored, we let sleeping dogs lie – until they don't.
As you find yourself in the thick of the holiday season and the New Year makes its arrival, it can be tempting to reach for relationship sound bites as a way to feel better, and the internet will provide you with no shortage of them. Just a quick Google search can afford you a list of panaceas promising better sex, fun, novelty, deeper connection, and of course, love.
Similarly, it can be tempting to make New Year's resolutions as a couple, aspiring to will yourself (and your partner) into a mindset that says THIS year will be different. Though well-intentioned, such endeavors often miss the mark.
The problem is this: resolutions are not promises, and promises are not seasonal, they must endure.
If you want your relationship to thrive, if you desire change, what your relationship requires from you is commitment – not just for 2020, not solely as an aspiration, but wholeheartedly as a mindset. Resolutions speak to the aim rather than the action, and therein lies the rub. It's why we often cringe at the mention of (our own) resolutions or sheepishly avert pronouncing them aloud. Though often earnest, such intentions by nature can be a setup, and by definition, are lower risk than commitments, contracts, and vows.
Stan Tatkin, author of We Do, Wired for Love, and Your Brain on Love, makes a compelling case that all couples can benefit from creating a shared contract, one where you hash out the basic rules to govern your relationship by in the days and years to come. He advocates for keeping each principle short and sweet, and that they emphasize mutuality. Tatkin also is clear to point out that if you can't and don't fulfill your share of the agreements at all times, then the guiding principles don't genuinely exist.
So why am I digressing from a seasonally themed blog on holidays, the New Year, and couples woes?
Because according to the research of John Gottman, the father of couples therapy as we know it, the majority of couples wait on average six years from the onset of a problem to seek any type of counseling or help with their relationship distress.
That's six Christmases.
Six Hanukkahs.
Six New Years.
You get the gist.
Tumblr media
If you are reading this intending to set things right in your relationship for the New Year, I'd suggest you consider sitting down with your partner and creating a long-term plan that will go the distance and transcend the multitude of holidays and occasions to come. Grab a bottle of wine, light a fire, purchase Tatkin's We Do, and have some paper and pencils on hand – make a night of it (or several).
Know the process won't be easy. You may experience bumps and even find yourself in gridlock. Being open, while hashing out your needs and feelings requires courage and vulnerability. It necessitates that you bring to the table equal doses of humility, justice, and humor. Optimally, some affection and passion for topping it off. There is the genuine possibility you could experience heartbreak, if not globally, at least for a moment (or two), but crafting love out of heartbreak is the alchemy of the strongest of couples, and such strength is built daily – it's a practice.
And, if in this process of creating your relationship contract, you discover that you don't have the tools or skills to navigate the (understandable) challenges of such terrain, I'd recommend you connect with a seasoned couples therapist to assist you. An expert who gets the complexities and symbolism that underlie the meanings, rituals, and values that the holiday season brings with it. Such therapists often offer private intensive retreats where you can take care of many months' worth of material in just a couple of days, or devote a whole weekend to creating your guiding principles for the New Year and beyond.
In the end, what could be a better gift for your relationship, your children, and even your grandchildren than your marriage thriving and going the distance? Seriously, the legacy of loving well is a gift that benefits humanity, and it behooves us all to prioritize caring for our relationships by placing love and the fruits that it brings at the top of our lists this year and in the years to come.
Take good care of your hearts.

Downtown Dartmouth community raises thousands for convenience store owners after attack
Neighbours are rallying around the owners of a convenience store in downtown Dartmouth, N.S., after they were attacked last week. The couple says they’ve also been the target of racist comments and robberies.
Customers dropped by Jake’s Variety on Portland Street on Wednesday with gifts for the owners, instead of coming in to do their usual shopping.
They say it came as a shock when the owner, Kamil Safatli, was attacked outside his shop last Thursday.
“The guy came from behind me and ask me to steal my money. I want my money, so I ignore him, and I kept finishing my stuff,” says Kamil. “Then, he came behind me and hit me back of my head and start punching me on my face.”
As the attack, which was captured on security video, continued, Kamil yelled for help and his wife Silva rushed outside.
“I pulled at his neck and kept going and going. There was people around us, they weren't helping,” says Silva. “I know they were scared, but I was the only one trying to drag the guy off of him, but he was really heavy and really built up.”
Kamil was treated in hospital for facial and head injuries.
Police say they have charged a man in his 50s with assault.
The Safatlis have been feeling increasingly unsafe after several robberies and say they have also been the target of racial slurs.
“Some of them accusing us, saying, 'Go back to your country, you're not welcome here. We're Canadian, you're not,' but I’ve been here and living here for 35 years now,” says Silva. “I'm a Canadian fully and I work for this country and contribute for this country.”
The local community has been rallying behind the couple with comfort and support.
“They are such kind, loving people and they provide such an essential service for so many people in this neighbourhood, they really do,” says customer Jane MacDougald. “There are a lot of people that rely on this place for their groceries.”
Community members have also set up an online fundraiser for Kamil and his family, which has raised more than $7,000 since the attack.

Welcome (again) to A Cup-pella, Laura! We’re excited to have you and Serena Smythe in the game! Please go through the checklist to make sure you’re ready to go and send in your account within the next 24 hours.
OOC INFO
Name + pronouns: Laura Age: 30+ Timezone: EST Ships: Serena/Money, Serena/Chemistry Anti-Ships: Serena/Poor People, Serena/No Chemistry
IC INFO
Full Name: Serena Faustine Smythe Face Claim: Olivia Wilde Age/Birthday: 32 / January 1st Occupation: Plastic Surgeon Personality: Arrogant, Intelligent, Escapist, Disconnected, Chauvinistic Hometown: Born in Provence France; Raised in Greenwich CT
Bio:
Many people find it surprising that Serena Faustine Smythe is a doctor.  It seems antithetical to the glamorous life that accompanies being heiress to a nearly billion dollar company.  However, Serena Faustine Smythe doesn’t want to be the Kardashian, or the Hilton brand of Heiress.  She’s a Smythe, goddamnit. T hat’s Dr. Smythe, thank you very much.
Born in France to Faustine and Joseph Smythe, a titan of the cosmetics industry, Serena has never not had a silver spoon firmly wedged in her mouth.  Dermasmythe is a nearly billion dollar skin care company that skyrocketed in value after the release of an extremely popular anti-aging cream.  Their line of serums are all one of a kind, with formulas that are protected in vaults deep beneath the ground, with access held by only a select few.  Serena isn’t one of those few.  Not yet, at least.  But as heiress apparent to the Dermasmythe empire, she knows it’ll be within her grasp at some point.
Serena emigrated to the US with her parents when she was an infant, as Mr. Smythe sought to open the first American Dermasmythe manufacturing plant in northern New Jersey. At present day, there are seven such sites.  By the age of 3, Serena had a net worth of several million dollars, and it has only increased from there. Joe and Faustine divorced when Serena was only 10, and instead of sadness, the young heiress celebrated the news. Two Christmases!  Competition for presents!
In the US, Serena attended an elite prep school in Greenwich CT, where by the age of 16 she was already a budding playboy, much like her father, whom to this day she still considers her biggest role model.  Still, as was custom in the Northeast, she did very well in school, and garnered the attention of many elite colleges, ultimately deciding to attend Dartmouth.
A gifted singer and athlete, Serena played lacrosse, and sang in an all women’s choir at Dartmouth while pursuing her pre-med degree.  Entering with so many credits thanks to prep-school, Serena managed to graduate a year early.  When considering what her next step might be, Serena decided to make a name for herself.  Despite being an heiress who would never, ever, ever need to work a day in her life, she made the very surprising decision to enroll in medical school.   Much of this decision was borne from her own stalwart desire to be the best, but also in fear of ending up like the Kardashians: being regarded as little more than rich and vapid.  Being heiress apparent to the Dermasmythe cosmetics empire, becoming a plastic surgeon was a no-brainer.
To her father’s (elated) surprise, she enrolled in his Alma Mater, Columbia University, and bulldozed her way through Medical School, and endured her surgical residency at NY Presbyterian Lower Manhattan–which, coincidentally, is what first brought Serena to ACup.  Entranced by the prospect of joining a singing group–and therefore continuing her favorite method of peacocking–Serena thought nothing of joining the Warblettes.  And now that she’s working full time as a surgeon, she still sings with the Warblettes–as women can’t resist someone so talented and artistic.
A bit (okay, very) disconnected from reality, even after completing medical school, money is no object to Serena, and she regularly goes on lavish, impulsive vacations and shopping sprees.  In the Heiress’ mind, there is no problem that exists that cannot be solved with money.  And much like her playboy father, Serena herself is proud to be a playboy herself, bedding beautiful women on the regular.  And that includes her father’s recent bride; a 25 year old, very popular instagram model who is now Serena’s step mother.
Upon completion of her residency, she wished to remain in lower Manhatan and promptly joined the staff of a chic plastic surgery clinic in TriBeCa where she regularly performs procedures on incredibly wealthy clients.  The hefty salary she earns is little more than spending money.  The world is her playground, and she intends to play as rough as she wants.
Pets: A Doberman Pinscher named Vanderbilt
Relationships:
♬ Sugar Motta
Best friend, roommate, sometimes arch-rival. It really depends on their mood, but generally speaking, they get along. Their fathers are good friends and business partners, and the girls grew up going to each other’s beach houses and having sleepovers in Paris and Milan after their shopping sprees. They obviously have no need for a roommate, but they love (and love to hate) each other enough that sharing a place seemed like the obvious choice once they both moved out of their parents’ houses.  Sugar became Serena’s roommate just as she was starting her surgery residency at NY Presbyterian.

How to Generate Leads on Social Media For Your Business
How to Generate Leads on Social Media - Social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have become gold mines for playing lead generation strategies.
Tumblr media
By leads, we mean indicators of interest left by potential customers during their searching or evaluating a product or service. The contact details left can be pursued to the level of sale. The impetus for social media lead generation is further buttressed by market research that says old ways of lead generation are dead and gone. At the same time, the emerging social media trends have given rise to so many lead generation companies. On the question, how to generate leads in social media or How to Generate Leads on Social Media we must know old methods such as cold-calling, static websites, and paid advertising is not working well. Today’s media-savvy buyers do not like them and want a more interactive approach. Consumers and high-level executives do not like marketing phone calls and sales teams are also averse to banking on cold calls for leads development. At the same time, actions in social media are soaring and it has turned a hub of buyers where at least 70 percent of users engage in a conversation with a peer before buying any product. This has made social media indispensable for all business in lead creation.
Use The Right Social Platform for Leads
The thumb rule in leads development at digital marketing is going after platforms where the audience resides most. That is why signing up for Instagram is not a good idea for getting B2B customers. Specific channels exist for all types of audience. Demographics need to be analyzed in knowing where the audience is most active. Instead of spreading out everywhere, targeting the B2B audience will be better. LinkedIn and Facebook have massive user bases. Sprout Social says the 18–29 age band dominates most social media outlets including LinkedIn. The Keyhole is a good tool in discovering the target audience at high presence areas. Just put a popular hashtag used by competitors and search it on Keyhole. In the results, there will be a “Top Sites” section showing the domains where the hashtag is in high use indicating target audience.
How to Generate Leads on Social Media (4 ESSENTIAL Tips for Beginners)

More Leads Essential for High ROI
Lead generation through social media or How to Generate Leads on Social Media is vital for sales and revenue. The marketing world is evolving fast and the main goal of marketing has to be linked with the goal of high ROI or return on investment. The merit of social media marketing is that results can be measured easily.
Tumblr media
That is how data has become the new king in marketing. Most marketers have to justify the marketing dollars a company is spending and know how they translate into valuable returns. At the core of any lead, generation-strategy is an objective to maximize ROI. But some marketers are yet to have clarity on optimizing ROI by choosing the most viable lead generation methods.
Top B2B Lead Generation Methods
In the business, to business sphere (B2B) digital lead generation techniques include SEO, email marketing, event marketing, and content marketing. Analytics can reveal the number of people reading emails and those visiting website and who is getting converted from relevant leads.
Measure the Effectiveness of Individual Channels
Quality of lead generating activities impacts the ROI. That is why marketers working on lead generation on social media often compare the results from different channels-- SEO, PPC, content marketing, email marketing, and social media to assess which channel is showing the capacity to attract new customers. They also examine how much resources each consumes in lead generation.
Cost Per Lead vs Cost Per Acquisition
Two ROI Indicators are supreme—Cost Per Lead (CPL) and Cost Per Acquisition (CPA). The cost efficiency is calculated by quantifying the marketing expense prior to analyzing metrics. Marketing cost covers all expenses such as personnel, events and paid channels.
Why Quality Social leads Matter?
According to an eMarketer analysis, B2B marketers require quality leads than a big quantity of unproductive leads. Lead generation works well only when targeting is effective. Before figuring out how to generate leads on social media let us examine the proven role of gated content. In generating leads from social media or How to Generate Leads on Social Media gated content is useful in wooing visitors and readers who are happy to oblige with contact information for accessing the content. Gated content takes the reader to a landing page via the link for accessing the content.
Is Your Social Media Marketing Working? How to Generate Leads on Social Media

Good Content
In getting new business leads from social media all you have to do is post relevant content pertaining to a product or industry and guide the readers to the landing page and make them fill up details for great leads. EMarketer study shows white papers, case studies and, webinars constitute useful content for lead generation as far as B2B marketers are concerned.
Automated Lead Generation Tools
Many types of social media lead generation software are available in the market. They are both user-friendly and easy solutions. Some marketers advocate ‘LinkedIn Sales Navigator Lite extension for Chrome’, also known as Rapportive as an extension providing core information about a prospect at the sidebar of G mail inbox. Callingly: This is another useful lead generation software tool with combo features of an online form and phone. As soon as a new lead comes up via a filled up form, calls can start automatically. Tools are also available for B2B lead generation strategies including the making of offers, call to action, landing pages and nurturing leads. The benefit of b2b lead generation tools is that they relieve the stress and hasten leads. In B2B marketing, SlideShare is like the Youtube and is great for online knowledge sharing. Easy presentations that are visually rich address pain points of a prospect and remedy with solutions. SlideShare’s ease of integration with other platforms helps in tapping faster insights regarding people’s response and level of interaction with a given content.
Run Contests
Contests play a big role in using social media as a platform for lead generation. But contests need to carry value for triggering people’s interest to turn them into future customers. For example, if a contest offers an iPhone or trip to Hawaii, people will gladly leave their contact information. This not because of any interest in the company or its product, but they want the valuable gift attached to the contest. Market Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center has traced clear trends on how millennials follow various brands on Facebook and other social media.  It says 66 percent of social media users are seeking coupons or discounts, while 37 percent are looking for contests. For announcing and high lighting contests, tabs on the left side of Facebook Business Pages can be suitably leveraged for leads via social media.
Use Geo-targeted Search
Effective lead generation via local focus or geo-targeting has been demonstrated by many brick-and-mortar businesses such as stores and malls by dipping into social media’s potential for lead generation. Using tactics of geo-targeting in terms of social media posts and ads add customers for new products, special sales, discount offers. Social media-centric campaigns also bring audiences closer to their business. In terms of overall percentage, more businesses need to come on board for leveraging advantages of geotargeted social search to explore local leads. Geotargeting is best in social search and taking the business to right consumers and getting them on board to fill up the lead generation form.
Lead Generation Through Mobile Apps
Mobile apps have also emerged as prominent tools in lead generation. Companies create mobile apps to ensure seamless communication with potential customers. As in social media mobile apps also broaden interaction and communication giving a local focus and relationships. Localization: Precise data relating to a user’s location, mobile carrier, and phone model will be available. A mobile app is very good for customer profiling. Push notifications can reach mobile app subscribers with promotional or discount offers even when they are walking, jogging, eating or driving. Promoting public events with the mobile app subscribers facilitate larger participation and a series of promotional discounts or bonuses. Bonus need not be a high-cost giveaway. A free snack and a cup of coffee or a promotional discount will be sufficient. The main goal of a mobile app is to encourage the user to interact with a business directly. To do this, the number must be visible on each app screen where a simple tap can get it dialling. Push notifications as mobile notifications unlike emails are easily opened and read showing scope for broader engagement.
Case Study on Lead Development Using Mention
The success of One World Direct in social media lead generation will inspire many. The US-based order fulfilment company is into outsourcing distribution and call centres mainly for e-commerce firms. The OWD tried some creative methods for generating leads. Business Development head Gideon Oakes noted how extensive use for social media monitoring tool Mention helped in creating alerts to track top competitors. It was more than the monitoring of output and watched what their customers had to say about their services. He found that one competitor was having a tough time and struggling to deliver services. Oakes decided to step in before negative feedback started spreading on Facebook, Twitter, and other forums. The way OWD reached out to clients is a case study on how to use social media for developing leads or How to Generate Leads on Social Media. It convinced customers that problems in delivery can be resolved if they can switch to enjoy a hassle-free time. This proved a good lead generation tactic. .................................

PHL / Sagas

Sagas February 1 — March 9, 2019 Opening Reception: Thursday, February 14th, 6-9pm
[Images] [Essay]
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia is excited to announce their next exhibition, Sagas. This group show brings together artists of various backgrounds who all explore their cultural and personal histories through their artmaking processes. The show will feature Sachiko Akiyama, Mary Henderson, Megan Hueble, Susan Lichtman, Juan Logan, Naomi Nakazato, Enrico Riley, and Anna Tsouhlarakis. The exhibition, co-curated by Mark Brosseau and Mary Henderson, runs from February 1 to March 9, 2019 with a reception on Thursday, February 14th from 6 to 9pm.
Sagas ask questions of how myth and folklore are different than fiction. All of these genres are types of storytelling, but myth and folklore are rooted in the exploration of cultural histories. They are stories that attempt to make sense of complex social and personal interactions, and to organize seemingly overwhelming information and events into a form that is approachable and relatable.
The show grew organically, in a way that parallels the passing down of myths and folktales. The curators built it by pulling in people from their various experiences as artists – colleagues, former instructors, artists they have admired. This exhibition is a way of bringing these stories together and looking for themes and challenges shared among a broad range of perspectives and artistic practices.
Sachiko Akiyama’s sculptures and drawings explore how to create physical representations of the complex and mysterious world of internal, psychological states. She received her BFA from Boston University in 2002. She is best known for her sculptures that combine hand-carved wood forms with other materials such as clay, resin and metal. She has exhibited in the United States and abroad, including solo exhibitions at the Akinofuku Museum (Hamamatsu, Japan), the University of Maine Museum of Art (Bangor, ME), and group exhibitions at the Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI), Smack Mellon (Brooklyn, NY), and Field Projects (NYC, NY). Her work has been reviewed favorably in Art New England, The Boston Globe, and The Portland Press Herald. Among numerous honors, Akiyama was awarded a Joan Mitchell Award, an Artist Resource Trust Grant, and residencies at UCross and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work is in the permanent collections of Decordova Museum and Sculpture Park and Gordon College. Akiyama currently lives in Portsmouth, NH.
Mary Henderson’s painting installation, “Serious Men,” adopts the format of the typology as a mode of symbolic storytelling. The work considers public performances of masculinity and the notion of “seriousness,” as part of the artist’s ongoing exploration of displays of collective identity, power and the relationship between the public and private self. Henderson received an AB in Fine Arts from Amherst College in Amherst, MA, and an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Recent exhibitions include the solo show, “Public Views,” Lyons Wier Gallery (New York), and group shows at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum (Mesa, AZ), the Woodmere Museum (Philadelphia, PA) and Ringling College of Art and Design (Sarasota, FL). She is a 2019 finalist for the Bennett Prize and has been the recipient of a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship, a PCA SOS grant, and a residency at the Jentel Foundation. Her work has been featured in Harper's Magazine, L’Espresso (Italy), New American Paintings, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Art in America, among other publications. She teaches painting and drawing part-time at St. Joseph’s University; she is also the assistant director for the Philadelphia site of the non-profit network of artist-run spaces,Tiger Strikes Asteroid. She lives and works in Philadelphia, PA with her husband and two children.
Megan Hueble explores biblical themes of knowledge, good and evil. Her paper cutouts hide and reveal, using floral elements to evoke the imagery of Eden and plants of knowledge. She earned a BFA in Visual Arts from Clemson University in 2017. While at Clemson, she received multiple research scholarships and the Harold Cooledge Award in Undergraduate Art History. Additionally, she spent a semester abroad in Cortona Italy, and interned at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, and the Museum of Fine Art (MFA) in Boston, MA. Her senior body of work was informed by the wide variety of floral and decorative motifs at the MFA, and it primarily concerned the value and perception of female labor, specifically artistic and craft labor. Upon graduation, she was accepted as a Brandon Fellow at Greenville Center for Creative Arts. Her current work is a vehicle for asking questions that relate broadly to female representation in religious art, self portraiture, and the power of subjectivity. She is based in South Carolina.
Susan Lichtman’s paintings are ruminations on the social fabric of her home, in which people, pets and things are placed together intuitively, conjuring up the casual ways family members inhabit a shared domestic space. She has had recent solo exhibitions at Gross McCleaf gallery in Philadelphia, Steven Harvey Fine Arts Projects in New York, and at the Wilson Museum of Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. A recipient of a 2018 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant, she also has received awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. She was the Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence at Hollins University in 2017 and the Guest of Honor at JSS Civita in 2016. Lichtman received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and an MFA in Painting from Yale University School of Art. She lives in Rehoboth, MA and is a professor at Brandeis University where she teaches painting and drawing.
Juan Logan’s “imagery mourns and affirms, transforms and quietly asks us to consider the physic cost of insensitivity and ignorance and to confer the gift of our humanity in the wake of brutality. His message comes to us in part through ritualized forms, a symbolic language constructed of graphic signs and objects the artist has selected form otherwise unnoticed day-to-day artifacts” (Excerpts from the essay Reliquaries for the exhibition catalog, "Juan Logan: Close Inspection" by Ken Bloom, Director, Tweed Museum of Art, Duluth, Minnesota.) He received his MFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art (Baltimore, MD). He has shown extensively nationally and internationally, and his work can be found in private, corporate, and public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Memphis Brooks Museum, the Zimmerli Museum of Art, and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Most recently, his pieceSome Clouds are Darker became part of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. His awards include fellowships from the from the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, the North Carolina Arts Council, the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper, the Carolina Postdoctoral Scholars Fellowship, and the Phillip Morris Companies.
Naomi Nakazato makes work that attempts to understand the dichotomous nature of her Japanese-American biracial identity through constructions of artificial nature and fragmented spaces. Her piece “Fifty Days of Forever” is a response to a trip made to Japan in April 2018 to attend her grandmother’s funeral. It considers video game tutorial systems, NPCs (non-player characters) and avatars, and her inexperience with Japanese Buddhist funerary customs – particularly kotsuage, the transferring of bones of the deceased to the urn – drawing parallels between set objectives and her own personal dissociations. Nakazato’s multidisciplinary work spans drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and installation to examine belonging within hybridity. She received a BA from Anderson University, South Carolina and an MFA from The New York Academy of Art, New York. Nakazato was awarded an initiate Brandon Fellowship at the Greenville Center for the Creative Arts in Greenville, South Carolina, a 2017 summer residency at the Leipzig International Artists Program in Leipzig, Germany, two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants, and is currently a Keyholder Resident at The Lower East Side Printshop in New York, NY. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Enrico Riley uses the medium of painting and drawing as a method for remembering and reflecting upon grief, and investigating links between the old world and the new, within a contemporary media context of reflexive violence perpetrated on African Americans. Riley received a BA in Visual Studies from Dartmouth College and an MFA in painting from Yale University School of Art. He is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, a Rome Prize in Visual Arts, an American Academy of Arts and Letters Purchase Prize in painting and a Jacobus Family Fellowship through Dartmouth College. He has exhibited work at The American Academy in Rome, Rome, Italy, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA. The Columbus Museum, Columbus, Georgia, The Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, Texas, The American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, NH, The Museum for the National Center of Afro-American Arts in Roxbury, MA, Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, Rome, Italy, Rhode Island School of Design Ehp, Rome, Italy, Teckningsmuseet, Laholm, Sweden, Giampietro Gallery, New Haven, CT, Jenkins Johnson Projects, Brooklyn, NY, SACI School of Art Florence, Italy, Pageant Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, Hampshire College, Amherst, MA Lori Bookstein Fine Art in New York City, The Painting Center in New York City, SACI School of Art Florence, Italy, Hampshire College, Amherst, MA. He is a professor of studio art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He currently lives in Norwich, VT.
Anna Tsouhlarakis’s signage installation draws upon her informal surveys among Navajos about their beliefs and thoughts on reaching harmony, or hozho. The resulting work combines oral and quasi-scientific traditions in its exploration of Navajo narratives of future worlds. Tsouhlarakis works in sculpture, installation, video and performance.  She received her BA from Dartmouth College and MFA from Yale University.  She has participated in several art residencies including Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and Yaddo.  Her work has been included in exhibitions both nationally and internationally.  She has been awarded various grants and fellowships including the Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Contemporary Art. Her recent awards include an Artist Fellowship from the Harpo Foundation, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities as well as a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellowship.  She currently resides in Washington, DC with her partner, 3 children and trusty dog.
Mark Brosseau did his undergraduate study at Dartmouth College and received his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001 before receiving a Fulbright Fellowship to spend a year painting and making prints in Iceland. He has exhibited nationally, with his most recent solo and two-person shows at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Los Angeles, University of South Carolina Upstate, and The Neon Heater. He lives and works in Greenville, SC and teaches at Clemson University.
