It was a dark, cloudy day in the depths of hell’s pride ring. There were dark crimson clouds floating just below the now dim pentagram floating in the red sky, a sign of the oncoming downpour of acid rain. You were sitting inside Vox’s penthouse, waiting. It was his birthday. You don’t think you have ever seen Vox celebrate his birthday, not like any of the Vees remember. Only those who have known him since the beginning—You and Alastor—know of this special day. You knew how hard it was for Vox to be working his nine to twelve hour work days, and even overlords need their rest…right? Every year since you had met Vox you had gone out of your way to make this day special in some way, and this year would be no exception.

You suddenly hear the familiar clicking of door opening. Vox's eyes widen slightly as he notices you sitting there, a flicker of surprise and warmth momentarily breaking through his usual scowl. What were you doing here? He sets his phone aside on the nearby kitchen island, leaning forward with interest. “Sorry I broke in.” You giggle, taking a small wrapped box, no bigger than a cupcake tin, and hold it out in front of you as you get up and walk to the island. Vox smirks at you. “Oh please, I know I can’t stop you.” He chuckles.

“You’re right about that.” You say handing him the small wrapped package. “What’s this?” He asks, his voice softening a bit, a hint of genuine emotion peeking through his usual showman persona. “Why don’t you open it and find out?” With renewed curiosity, Vox carefully unwraps the small package, his clawed fingers gently tearing at the wrapping paper. As the box is revealed, he glances up at you quizzically before lifting the lid. Its a classic 1950’s Rolex, with a navy blue watch band, teal base, and red accents. Almost identical to the one Vox had when he was alive.

Vox’s eyes widen in surprise as he lifts the watch out of the box, his gaze fixed on the familiar design. He turns it over in his hands, studying it closely, a range of emotions playing across his face. “How…” He trails off, his voice thick with emotion. “Where did you…” Vox searched your face for an answer. “I had it custom made.” Vox looks up at you, his eyes glistening with a rare display of vulnerability. “I…I don't know what to say.” He clears his throat, trying to regain his composure. “This is… it's perfect. Thank you.” You give him a bright smile. “Happy birthday.” Vox leans over the counter and pulls you into a tight hug, his large arms wrapping around you possessively. “You're the best, you know that?” He whispers in your ear before pulling back, his expression gentler than you've ever seen.

“Oh I know.” You let out a cocky smirk. Vox laughs heartily, slowly taking off his blazer. He glances at the clock on the wall, then back at you, a mischievous glint in his eye. “You know what? I think I'm going to take the rest of the day off.” You smirk. “I didn’t know you took days off.” You say, sarcasm dripping from your tone like venom. Vox smirks at your sarcastic remark, rolling up his sleeves. “Well, I am today. And I want to spend it with you. Any objections?” He raises an eyebrow, daring you to refuse. “Nope!” Vox's eyes light up with a predatory gleam. "Excellent.”

It’s baking day. Your kitchen is stolid with the heat of the oven and the treats cooling on the counter. Your apartment has been converted into a pseudo chocolate factory; though you wouldn’t claim Wonka’s glory. You are certain to keep to food-safe standards however and so your morning began with sanitization, another two hours on top of a long day. 

It’s a few weeks out to the next show; a local festival that hosts all sorts of local shops, though the biggest attraction are the musical acts. Even so, you’re hustling as best as you can. You spent a portion of the baking show profit to get a kiosk in the mall for the holiday weekend. It’s a big deal, you expect a crowd and now you have an idea of how much you’ll need to bring. 

You sigh as you tally up what you have so far. You’ll be in the kitchen all week at this rate and you don’t think even then you’ll meet your set quota. You’ll still do well but you can’t help the echo of that man’s words. You’re hitting a wall on your own. 

And you’re running low on red cacao. You frown at the slack canvas bag. That’s another trip to the bulk seller down by the freeway but that’s so far out, it’ll eat at least an hour and a half off your day.  

He’s right. That pompous snakish man is right. You can’t keep up with the demand.  

No, you can. You’ll bake into the night if you have to. It’ll be cooler then, anyhow. You inventory your cupboards as the oven radiate with heat. You have a list. Tomorrow you can get to that but for now, you’ll start packaging the chocolates in the fridge. 

You count out the truffles and fudge squares precisely. Each one in a sleeve or a box. You’ll add all the little details later; a ribbon, a bow, a seal. You yawn at the repetition but aren’t bored by it. Having your own business isn’t exactly dull, if anything it’s tantalizingly stressful. 

Your tablet dings as the baking show you keep on stream quiets for the notification. The woman’s voice returns to full volume as you approach to check the icon in the margin. It’s from your online shop front. Between the physical work, you can’t forget about the healthy tide of orders coming in virtually. 

It adds to the weight on your shoulders. You slump and drag down the notification bar. It’s large order and before you can skim each item, another notification sweeps in. You tap the inquiry so that the message opens.  

The inquiry is labeled with the same order number that just came up. You squint. ‘...requires in-person to order address...’ You don’t do that. It isn’t an option but the customer’s tone comes of insistent even over text. They promise a gratuity and underline that they did pay for the expedited option. 

That’s the first position you’re hiring when you can make the space. A customer service representative because you hate this. You go back to review the full order. It’s a lot; a lot of baking and a lot of money. 

You’ll have to make it work yet there’s this needling voice in the back of your head, slithering and sharp, you can’t keep this up forever.

Surely, it’s the wrong address.

You idle in your large SUV, the nearly two-decade old model puttering between the sleek modern cars the fill the spaces outside the luxurious storefront. You gulp as you peer up at the moniker. You recognise the brand and the logo. 

Black Snake. It’s some sort of trick. You should have been suspicious.

The chocolatier isn’t unknown to you beyond your encounter with its owner. While the headquarters are nestled right at the heart of your city, there are locations across the country and even a few international. The local start-up boomed onto the front page and you can’t say it had nothing to do with your own come up. You offer a more affordable option with the same premium taste. 

You suppose he doesn’t like the competition. You wouldn’t either but you put yourself out there against the Black Snake monopoly knowing you would be trudging uphill. You get out and try not to think too much. 

You unlock the hatch and take out the large box stamped with your business name; Sweet Nothings. You approach the front door, trying to see through the tinted windows that form the front wall, and it opens before you can reach it. Shoot, he’s expecting you. 

“Ah, right on time,” Loki greets as he checks his watch. “I see you’ve no branding on your vehicle.” 

You try not to cringe. He has an eye for detail. You bite down on your smile. 

“Hello again,” you try to act like his foreboding hasn’t haunted you for a week, “I have everything in here--” 

“I didn’t see a reselling clause on your terms of service,” he proclaims smugly, “these should be popular.” 

“Ah,” you hesitate as he steps out of the door to hold it open for you, “you’ve paid so I guess I can’t stop you.” 

“Mm, and how is business then? You are quick to respond. Can’t be very hectic, then.” 

You take the jab like a weathered boxer. You don’t flinch, you just keep going. You stride inside and look around. You carry the box to the empty space the counter. 

“As promised, I will transfer a fee for your trouble,” he follows quickly. 

“Thanks, uh, I should--” you face him as he blocks your path. 

“You’ve a pop-up. This coming weekend.” 

The advert is at the top of your online shop. Of course, he would know. His diligence is starting to eke you out. 

“I do,” you confirm, “so I should be off.” 

“Yes, you have much work to do. Tell me, how many ovens do you have going?” 

Your expression falls, “you spent all this money to mock me?” 

“No, I’m simply discussing business. Seeing as I am experienced, I thought I might offer some sage advice,” he flutters his long fingers. 

“I appreciate that, really, but I am running a business, same as you, so if you would like to discuss that, you are more than welcome to make a proper appointment with me. Like a business person.” 

He snickers at the slant in your voice, the tone that insists you’re legitimate like him. 

“I didn’t see that option on the store front,” he counters. 

“You have my card,” you sniff and step around him. “Feel free to let me know if you have any concerns about your order.” 

“Wait--” He calls after but you’re already halfway through the door.

A week later, Bez opens the entry door to their little studio. The bell over him rings and the first thing he does is walk over to the power box to turn on the lights, including those on the damn garland that caused the biggest disgrace of his life. He can’t help but stare at it for a second and blush while thinking about what bullshit he babbled the whole day. He talked so much, Francesco must have been so annoyed, it's truly a miracle he chose to rebook with him.

Anyhow, he assured him, still in the emergency room, that he still wanted to get a tattoo from him and that he absolutely wanted to immortalize the previously agreed design on his skin. A design that Bez is honestly quite proud of, as he poured a lot of time and soul into it.

Out of nowhere, the door bell rings once again and the door crashes wide open. „Don‘t be a daydreamer!”, the Valentino Rossi, world known tattoo artist, master of his art, and sadly Bez’ mentor, sings. Bez glares over his shoulder to the happy man standing in the doorway. Over his narrow shoulders another person peeks out, or rather a very familiar brown mat of curls belonging to a certain Spaniard. Oh no. If he doesn't wait in the car, that doesn't mean anything good.

“I thought you had to get somewhere“, Bez snaps back. “Ah, we have some time to come in and drink a coffee.“, Valentino answers and walks right past him with Marc as usually on his tail, never more than two steps away from his side. “Besides, you were the one who begged me to drive you, then you have to endure us for five extra minutes.“ “Begged is an overstatement. I only asked, because it's too cold to take the bike and Luca took the car for the weekend and hasn‘t returned yet.“, Bez mutters and closes the door. The bell rings.

“Yeah, because we never open on Mondays. Of course, he would not expect you need the car, especially if you haven‘t told him.“ Marc comments dryly and takes a sip of the fresh espresso Vale has handed him. “But you haven’t told him, because you don’t want to admit you chicken out every time when you got the opportunity to ask his childhood best friend out for dinner.” The Italian next to him chuckles amused, admiring the snark his lover is able to, when he has not consumed enough caffeine yet. (If he thinks about it, Bez would confidently guess that 70 percent of his day consists of staring at the Spaniard with heart eyes.)

Bez blushes and rips open the packaging of the cookies, which Luca commented on that Franchesco especially likes those. “Anyways…”, Bez turns around, already finished with creating a fresh snack plate, and checks the clock over the doorframe leading to the private rooms.

Each of them got an own room to decorate and to work in, regardless of whether they tattoo, pierce or both. Luca’s is the closest to the door and he mostly pierces small and ordinary piercings, so he is the one who usually handles new arrivals or cashes out, if Marc isn’t present. The Spaniard does the paperwork and oversees the books, because he isn’t really active as a tattoo artist in this studio at the moment, just as Vale. If he tattoos, he does it in his brother's studio. Vale only takes regular customers or designs works for the family, every one of them got some works of Vale on their body, even his small signature turtle hidden somewhere. Bez has his on his collarbone and it was one of his earlier, so he can confidently say: That shit hurt.

So, he has even more empathy for Francesco, because soon he will hang over his shoulder and tattoo his entire collarbone, actually the whole skin from his sternum to his shoulder and then his upper arm, to complete the beautiful sleeve Vale once started.

This is another reason why Bez is so nervous to do this tattoo, not only because he will have skin contact with a shirtless Franchesco for over eight hours, but also because there is an extreme pressure onto him. Completing the tattoo of another artist is usually considered disrespectful, but in this case Vale, his mentor, trusted him enough to continue and finish one of his most important projects.

He takes out the prints and silently hands them over to Vale, observing his mimic as he studies the design. Unintended he lets out just the smallest sign of relief when the smile doesn’t fall off his lips. “This is good, I’m sure he will like it.”, Vale tells him and gives him the paper back. Holding his gaze the mischief in his voice completely disappeared. “By the way, shouldn’t you start preparing?”, Marc throws in from the side.

Startled, Bez looks at the watch again. In fact, half an hour has somehow passed since they entered the store, even though Bez doesn't know how that could have happened. Hectic he nods and nearly sprints to his room, which is the second closest to the entry room, only to nearly fall over his own legs when he takes the curve a bit too tightly.

The Italian starts pulling out everything he needs and spread it on his table. Then he begins the annoying and time consuming task of disinfecting everything that is not sealed and sterile, slowly working his way through the utensils, while the two lovebirds chatter and bicker and work their way through their coffee stock.

Time flies by and Bez only focus on working quickly and yet effective and thoroughly. He wipes every surface down, multiple times, and is careful not to touch anything again and thus contaminate it again.

The door bell rings.

Bez jumps up, running towards the entry room. Only when he collides with Marc, who suddenly is in his way, he remembers their presence. Once again, he slips and hits the ground. Hard. Pain spreads from his back to his shoulders, robbing the breath out of his lungs. Panting and coughing, it takes a moment for him to recover. This time, Marc and not Francesco leans over him and snaps to get his attention back. Vale on the other hand is busy laughing very hard, so Bez raises his head to give him a frosty look. Maybe he needs to pull out the blackmail material again and embarrass him again. His ego desperately needs a dampener. However, the old man stands next to the open door- next to Francesco. Immediately, Marco blushes and wishes the ground would swallow him. How could this happen again?! Why does he always have to humiliate himself in front of him of all people?!

“You need help to get up or do you like the floor?”, Marc over him jokes, tilting his head to the side. Quickly, Bez rolls to the side and gets up all by himself, because he is a grown and responsible adult, thank you.

“Hey.”, he greets the curly haired man, does a small wave, and takes a closer look at him. Oh. He is wearing that hat again, oh no. How can he be so damn cute all the time??

Francesco answers his looks with an even cuter smile and waves back. “Hi.”

Bez realises he is staring. Oh no, he should stop. Look away, look away, what should he look at- The door? Oh no, it’s still wide open, all the cold comes inside. The counter? The snacks!

“Come inside, you can hang your scarf and coat up there!”, he signals somewhere in the direction of the guest reck and hushes over to the counter. Francesco does as he was told, so he has the opportunity to swirl around and shoot a death glare at Vale. He closes the door but otherwise remains completely unimpressed. Worse, there's that damn cocky grin again.

“You want anything sweet? Its good to get your blood sugar up before we start.”

“Oh thanks, but I just drank a whole bottle of cola before and ate a meal, so I’m pretty full.” Pecco replies. How can he be so perfect and ruin everything at the same time? Bez wants to start crying.

Awkward silence spreads again, only interrupted by Marc and Vales snorting. One day- One day he will have enough. He swears, he will pull the others on his side and together they will start a mutiny. What is the motto of the French? Down with the tyrants? Maybe he should involve Vale’s newest protege, the one who works at Marc’s place now. He should be familiar with it. Or were it the romans? Then he himself should know.

The silence still lasts, was probably even longer for anyone else except him. They have no thoughts cruising around in their head like little bikes around a racetrack.

"Should we go back and begin?” Francesco brightens up and eagerly nods. “Gladly!”

In the corner, Marc giggles and whispers in stage volume. “They better should use protection!” “He’s got ink-credible talent with his tattoo gun” Vale joins in, and both fall into laughter. “I hate you”, Bez hisses at them with bright pink cheeks as he leads Francesco right past them, begging everyone out there that they will never talk about this and that none of them will ever speak out those words in this sentence entourage again. Luckily the perfect man before him at least acts like he didn't heard a thing.

“Here”, Bez gives Francesco the print and enjoys the few seconds of their fingers brushing. He tries to stare at the other without looking weird, what will probably be the biggest challenge for today, and repeatedly sends prayers upwards that he will like it.

“It's great.”, Francesco whispers and traces one of the traces one of the red coloured lines winding through the piece with his finger. “It exactly fits the style of the old and also adds another touch to it.” He blinks at Bez, glazing upwards through his long and beautiful lashes. “Would you apply it?”

Bez stutters. In an instant, he loses his breath, he is completely blinded by the angelic face. “Of course.”, he gets out and turns around to get the disposable razor and the cream for the stencil to transfer from the foil to the skin. Then, he remembers something. “Uhhh…”, he starts very intelligent and confident, “You need to take off your shirt, so I have free access to your shoulder.” “Oh. Of course.”

Without any hesitation, Francesco smoothly pulls the long-sleeved top over his head and then takes it off. Bez can only stare at the skin that get unveiled, at the big chest muscles, the slightly visible six pack, the line of hairs running down his V-line, getting cut off by his low sitting waist- He looks up again- sadly-, before he gets to stare at his crotch and actually starts drooling. His cheeks get burning hot and he only wishes it isn’t too obvious.

“Okay.”, he clears his throat. “You still know the process, or should I go though it?” The other moves his head up and down, oh lord his pretty curls start flying around, almost dance in the air. “I still know what happens, so you can start right away.” Bez nods, out of fear his voice would malfunction, and lowers the razor to the skin. Francesco flinches back a millimetre and times seems to stop once more. Oh, how he wishes he could sit over him, touch him over and over again and watch him flinching because of his touch- No, No, No, work friendly thoughts, work friendly thoughts, he remembers himself and continues shaving the areas he will tattoo soon. After this, he gently rubs the cream in and then super carefully he positions the foil and presses it over the skin. “Just a second….”, he mumbles as he peels it off and critically examines the position.

“Look for yourself.”, he says and gestures towards the full body mirror in the corner of the room. Francesco stands up and gets close to his own mirror imagine, searching for anything he doesn’t like. Bez waits with bated breath for his judgement and its feels like a weight falls off his chest when the smile on his face only brightens. “Yeah, this is really good, absolutely perfect.”

Bez can’t help but to copy his smile, he feels overjoyed by the reaction he got to his art, and this is only the stencil. “You sure I don’t need to change anything?” Francesco looks in the mirror and shakes his head. “It’s good like this.” He walks over and sits back down on the tattoo table, watching Bez preparing the machine and fill the colour pods expectantly with an excited shimmer in his eyes.

Bez ends the prepping with sitting down, dipping the needle into the ink and then raising the machine, sorting the cable and making sure it won’t come in his way.

In the meantime, Francesco has moved onto his side and now lies perfectly positioned and stable. If he hadn’t already the crush of the size of a moon on him, Bez would fall in love even more. He takes another deep breath to calm himself before he rests his palm onto his skin. “Are you ready?” “Go ahead.”, Francesco grins and rests his head onto his arm. Oh, he needs to concentrate again.

Bez starts drawing the first outer lines, then he stops to reassure everything is fine and they are good to continue. Francesco only gives him a thumbs up, eyes already halfway closed. The artist chuckles. He doesn’t know how he could be so perfect, if this is a dream he wishes nobody would ever wake him up. “Please don’t fall asleep for the next half hour, we need to make sure everything is fine before you enter the land of dreams.” The angel on his table hums to confirm he has heard him. His brown fluffy curls spread around his head, just like a halo would. A halo out of curls, that is an angel he would surely pray for.

Marco lets out a short giggle, he can’t help it, not when he looks so goddamn adorable. Thinking about how he could maybe get his number if he finally dares to ask him one day, he puts the needle down on his beautiful skin and continues the outline to eternalize his art onto this stunningly perfect man.

The Skelita Howliday doll has been on sale on Amazon (at fluctuating prices) so I gave in and bought her as a birthday gift for myself. As I scrolled through the reviews I was concerned that she would arrive in a mangled box and damaged. Thankfully, she turned up pristine!

The packaging is quite nice. I very much like the skull winged butterflies. It's a shame that they are not really used anywhere else besides the fabric print of the dress.

Anywho, I've already complained enough about the doll's design and I'm sure there are plenty of reviews out there so I'll go quickly!

STAND:

Yes, very nice details on stand base. Good. I was surprised when I realized it's a saddle stand. I've had to stick a wad of putty on the saddle to keep Skelita in place lest she falls out.

Now she topples over stand and all! X'D

HEADPIECE:

I was happy to see the skullettes in the flowers have all this sculpted detail! Unfortunately, the painted detailed are a bit off.

The headpiece is made of a harder plastic and is hollow with an open back.

At first, I thought, "Oh, nice. It's much lighter than the first adult collector Skelita's headpiece!"

But then I remembered that I actually really dislike when companies cut corners by neglecting the backside of their toys and products. All angles should be taken into consideration.

Especially on a collector doll.

SHOES:

Shoes are nice. I like the detail of the sole and flowers.

JEWELRY:

Itty bitty skullette beads.

And another skullette with sculpted details. A nice touch.

I'm honestly surprised to see a total of six bracelets and a necklace on this doll. They don't have much in the way of painted details, but I'll take what I can get.

DRESS:

Skelitas used to come with a plastic piece in the shape of the standard Monster High torso to help clothes fit on her boney frame. Now she comes with this. Undergarments I guess? ;P

The ruffle and sleeves are made of the same stretchy fabric and covered with some gold glitter. The sleeves' edges are secured with an overlock stitch while the ruffle is left raw.

Beginning to fray.

The dress's skirt fabric is that thick plasticy fabric that kind of feels like paper. I do not care for this fabric in the least.

After disassembly, I washed her and her clothes. The purple stretchy fabric began to stick onto itself during the washing process. Perhaps the glitter adhesive reactivated with the water and/or the heat. Thankfully, I was able to separate it all again. The top portion of the skirt ruffle folded over during washing and I actually prefer it this way.

Happy accident.

I was able to bring down and relax the sleeves with some added (light) heat. Thank goodness because I did not like how those sleeves looked from factory.

I also took it upon myself to straighten and quickly style her hair with a half ponytail.

For a collector doll, I expect some styling from the company but she came with nothing.

Here she is:

The more I look at her, the more I appreciate her. The colors are nice and are pretty cohesive. There are some nice details and she's a "pretty" doll.

However, for this being a collector doll priced at almost 50USD and knowing that Mattel can and has done so much better in terms of design and materials, I'm very disappointed.

But for what I actually paid?

She's okay.

Either way, I'm very happy to have her.

In truth, I would like to buy another one. Either for fodder, or to keep one as factory and another customized. Will only do that if she drops considerably in price.

Pelipper mail! Two packages appear! One is wrapped in a thick pink ribbon and has a tag reading "To: Roxie" in neat, angular handwriting. The second is smaller and sports wrapping paper patterned with Galarian Weezings and a tag reading "Roxie" in light, flowing handwriting.

The first box contains multiple objects. The first is a choker in dark purple and yellow, studded with paler purple spikes like the bumps around a Toxtricity's wrists. The next is a small plush toy Toxel, the electricity on its head being made of a shiny material the crinkles when rubbed and the rest being deceptively soft to the touch for its looks. The box also contains a mixed bundle of fresh berries- multiple Shuca berries, Pecha berries, and Cherri berries tied together with their own pink ribbon. At the very bottom of the box is a plastic sleeve containing what seems to be a piece of cardboard. Removing it from the protective sleeve reveals a fairly convincing mock league card- it uses a picture of Roxie onstage at her tour's Ballonlea performance, lit up by spotlights and belting lyrics. It sports the Galar league's poison type style border, a large number "157" in the corner, and an iridescent foil finish. On the back of the card are small graphics portraying the team of pokemon she listed to Bede earlier- Amoonguss, Garbodor, Seviper, Drapion, Crobat, and Scolipede- as well as a large picture of a Toxic Badge. At the top is a small blurb: "Roxie, esteemed Gym Leader of Virbank City Gym in Unova. A poison type trainer, fierce battler, and interregionally renowned musician." It seems Bede hasn't exactly gotten the hang of the flowery and sensationalized descriptions on official league cards. On top of the box is a card, sporting Bede's signature. The lines are straight and neat, although it looks like they've been erased and redone multiple times in an attempt to make them perfect. The card reads "I seem to remember you expressing a desire for a 'cool custom card' in the past. I expect this will suffice, but if not, I've no doubt that you'll find the other gifts suitable in their own right~"

the second box is much smaller, and only contains one item: A pair of large earrings. they depict two Koffings made out of polymer clay dangling from silver chains. The earrings come with a note in flowy cursive: "Ms. Roxie, I was delighted to hear that Bede had decided to invite you over for our Delibird Day festivities. I meant to bring up the idea to him myself, you know, but he set his mind on it before I even had the chance to. I do appreciate you offering that boy your friendship... I like to think you've got him slipping out of his Torkoal shell more and more by the day. Enclosed you'll find some of my old earrings. now, I hope you don't mind getting some old woman's hand-me-downs, but I think they've about run their course with me, and they just cried out to me that they'd like to be with you. I do hope that they'll serve you well, and that you'll continue being so refreshingly, unapologetically 'you' in the new year to come. The world needs more trainers like you... and not just poison type trainers made my job so much more interesting, hm-hm! Best regards, Ms. Opal"

(*A wide grin adorns Roxie's face as they accept the two packages and excitedly plop onto the floor to open them, much like a kid on Delibird Day morning. She chooses to open the package wrapped in a pink ribbon first, undoing the mentioned ribbon, and practically tearing off the lid.*)

(*Roxie's grin widens even further, if that's even possible, eyes lighting up as he picks up the first item. She admires the Toxtricity inspired choker for several heartbeats before immediately clasping it around her neck, continuing on with the gift-opening seconds after.*)

In true Roxie fashion, he's taking the earrings he already had in out of her ears and putting in her new pair.
